We're Baaaaack! Trip Report Starts on Page 7! (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=43192221&postcount=105) :thumbsup2
Howdy! :wave2:
My name is Deb and I've decided to do a trip report from a different take than the usual, the overweight. I see threads popping up constantly on the Dis of people wondering "Will I fit?" or "Am I going to have any fun with my family since I'm fat?". I understand those questions, because well, I've been there. Been there? Does that mean I'm skinny now? Ummm, nope, not EVEN close, I just mean I've been a first timer before and worried about fitting on rides or through turnstiles or in a chair. (psst..I secretly still do!) So I want to help my fellow Poohs because afterall we need fun in life too
You active Tiggers are more than welcomed to follow along too just please remember to be kind. You may not understand the the worries we have or why we don't just lose weight but please keep those thoughts to yourself. I really want people to feel free to voice their concerns without judgment :goodvibes
I plan to show our journey all the way- airplane, hotel, rides, restaurants and all. I plan on showing you lots of ride pictures, fitting tips, etc. Key word there is "plan." I have an incredibly active 14 month old so I have a feeling this will be a rather slow project so please bare with me ;)
So let's get down to business!
About Us:
Me: Deb/26/Domestic Goddess :laundy:
Hubby: Rudy/34/Legal Hero :cool2:
Soon to be Daughter: Boo/14 months/Full Time Princess princess:
She's not "Pooh" sized at all weighing in at a whopping 20 lbs. But never the less
she's very important to this thread because it's going to be interesting to see if
she will be fitting between us on rides or if we will have to split up. I'm predicting
that might happen often. Oh yeah you're probably wondering what
the "soon to be" is all about, well we're in the process of adopting her. Everything
should be final within next couple of weeks. In fact this trip is in celebration of her
officially becoming ours. :cheer2:
About The Trip:
Dates: October 25- November 1, 2011
We normally go during Christmas but wanted to go in October to hit up MNSSHP
and F&W Festival. popcorn::
Flight: Jet Blue, out of Austin
Never flown Jet Blue before but we're nervous about keeping a rambunctious
toddler happy on a 3 hour flight so felt the TVs in every seat might help.:happytv:
Hotel: Pop Century, Preferred
We've never tried a value before but we're excited to see what Pop has to offer.
We're also a little scared as we tend to be deluxers. But alas, after so many legal
bills from the adoption this is what we're going with this year. We chose to pay the
small fee for the preferred room so we will be closer to the buses and the hall
meaning less walking. We know we will be exhausted after the parks everyday and
every step will help. :tiptoe:
Tickets: 7 Day Park Hoppers
Can't imagine a trip without hoppers. Very important to us. We're not water park
people (and the world breaths a collective sigh of relief) so we don't buy that add
on :p
Dining: Deluxe Dining Plan
Now let me stop and say the Basic Plan is what we normally get and is more than
enough food for us. So for those of you who are worried about that, don't be,
you'll stay full on basic. The only reason we purchased Deluxe this time is the
baby. She needs her AC and she needs her food every few hours. So Deluxe really
seems like the answer for us this time.
Transportation: Magical Express/Internal Buses....maybe
Ugh! I'm soooo back and forth on this! I keep hearing all these horror stories
about the buses at Pop. Are they really that horrible? We may end up renting a car
to have at the hotel as a "just in case" plan. Because I REALLY don't want to
spend my entire trip waiting on buses. :drive:
So, there you have it!
I will try to pop back on soon and let you follow along on the pre-trip planning.
Thanks for reading! :surfweb:

Hi Deb, I am Tracy. Loved the title to the PTR so had to join in. I am "pooh sized" as well. We will be going for my 10th trip in December, I love how "pooh friendly" WDW is.
As for Pop and the bus situation, we have stayed there 7 times and haven't had issues with the busses except from DTD West Side. I think it is all a matter of timing. There are going to be long waits if you try to get on a bus at park closing, we have learned to stay back inside the park and let the masses leave.

HI Deb!
very much looking forward to hearing all about your trip!
On my very first trip to Disney back in Feb I also flew jetblue out of Austin. I loved Jetblue!
Looking forward to hearing more:goodvibes

I'm so happy to hear you've had good bus experiences at Pop. I'm really worried about that situation.
Thanks for following along! :goodvibes

Hey Aimee!
Always love to find a fellow Texan on the Dis! Happy to hear you had a nice Jet Blue experience. We live about 300 miles from Austin so we've never flown out of there before but I found some ticket prices I just could not say no to :yay:
Your trip report cracked me up all morning. I have a wicked sense of humor so I woke my husband up giggling at the thought of that woman and her stroller tumbling down that hill hahahahaha.

:cheer2: Congratulations on the adoption of your princess: I can't imagine how exciting, stressful that the process would be and hope you guys have an unbelievable time with Boo next month!
As a fellow pooh mom and frequent WDW visitor, I still get anxious about certain rides and wondering whether or not I'll embarass my kids by having to get off of a ride and subsequently forcing them to miss it too. Thankfully, it's never ever been an issue at WDW. Now other parks it hasn't worked out that way, (Busch Gardens/Uni) but we are by far extremely loyal to WDW and so the only parks may only get a visit out of us every couple of years.

Thank you! We are thrilled! :cloud9:
I've never gone on most of the Fantasyland rides because I never had a reason to before now, do you think I'll be okay on those? Those are the only ones I'm concerned about. Well and the darn Muppet 3D seats...don't know why they made them so much smaller. I haven't fit in those seats for a couple years now. :3dglasses

I've never had an issue on any ride at the world. The only thing I've ever found being a tight squeeze is the theater seating.

I'm so excited I have some readers yay!!! :cheer2:
Okay so like I said earlier we're doing DxDDP so that means ALOT of table service ADRs. Now truthfully, I will be surprised if we make it to half of these, that's just way too much food even for Poohs like ourselves. But I decided to go ahead and make all the ADRs then cancel them as needed. Never know when we'll need to cool down and relax in some AC and there's no rule we have to eat everything offered.
So here is our list--
October 25:
Dinner- Everything Pop
October 26:
Breakfast- Tusker House
Lunch- Tusker House (I know, weird but it was the only available ADR :lmao:)
Dinner- Liberty Tree Tavern
October 27:
Breakfast- Kona
Lunch- Tony's
Dinner- Tutto Italia
October 28:
Breakfast- Akershus
Lunch- San Angel Inn
Dinner- Raglan Road
October 29:
Breakfast- Crystal Palace
Lunch- Plaza
Dinner- Rose & Crown
October 30:
Breakfast- Boma
Lunch- Brown Derby Fantasmic Pkg
Dinner- 50s Prime Time Cafe (I hate how I had to make this ressie in Rudy's name since the lunch package prevents you from dinner ADRs...they need to fix that)
October 31:
Breakfast- Tusker House
Lunch- Yak & Yeti
Dinner- Kona
November 1:
Breakfast- 1900 Park Faire
We've always stuck to the same restaurants so we decided to try some different ones this time. This will be our first visit to 1900, Yak & Yeti, Tusker House, Boma, Rose and Crown, Plaza, Crystal Palace, Raglan Road, Akershus, San Angel Inn, Tutto Italia, Liberty Tree Tavern, and Everything Pop! Wow, I actually didn't realize until right now that MOST of these are new for us. Weird.
Anyways does anybody have any ordering recommendations at any of these? We're already pros at Tonys and Kona as they are our *go to* every trip :thumbsup2

Congratulations on your adoption! Both of my girls are adopted so I know how amazing the experience can be! :cloud9: I had to come out of lurking to tell you a few things.
1. Flying with a 14 month old is really not that bad. Both of my girls were adopted from China. One at 10 months and one at 14 months. We had to fly nearly 30 hours to get home with them. You'll be amazed at how well your dd will do.
2. Pop Century is a great place to stay with kids. It is really family friendly. I am sure it is nothing like the GF but with a child you won't be in the room enough to care.
3. The bus service there was no problem at all. Last time we went to Disney was the same time you are going. It is the perfect time to go. We won't go at any other time! Hardly and crowds so there is no one on the bus. Relatively speaking of course.
4. The food court at Pop is fine. Nothing to write home about but it looks like you won't be eating there much so no big deal.
5. Loved Akershus for breakfast. The food was awesome. Plaza for lunch was good. Nothing stands out in our minds from there. Loved Rose and Crown. Go for the traditional English food like Bangers and Mash or Fish and Chips. Yummy!
So my big question for you is what should we order at Tonys for dinner? It will be our first time eating there when we go in 33 days but who's counting right? :rotfl: We'll be at Disney from October 30 - November 5!:woohoo:
And I'm a pooh sized girl too!

Sounds like we have quite a bit in common!
So glad to hear you have had positive POP experiences. I think we will probably enjoy our stay. As far as Tonys goes hubby likes the chicken parmesan and I like the lasagna. I love the tiramisu and the creme brulee is also very good :wizard:
Are ya'll going to MSSHP? If so, which night?

How fantastic! I'm sure you'll have a great time as a family of 3! :dance3: We loved our brunch at 1900 Park Faire. You guys must like Tusker House ;) *we did too.
POP was fun - it's a place to sleep and get ready, we checked out and ate at several of the Deluxes but were fine with our little room at POP, keep an eye out for rabbits.

I love the idea for this PTR. Our trip in 2008 we were really worried about fitting into rides and I have to say that we fit into everything we tried. The only place that gives us trouble is the Haunted Mansion turnstiles but I wonder with them revamping the line if they are even still there. :confused3
Congrats on your adoption, how very exciting!
I love Pop Century and I think out of all the resorts I have stayed at that Pop Century has the most consistent bus service. If you can get to the bus before the parks open than you will be all set. :thumbsup2

Glad to hear about the buses! Know what's funny? We have never made a single rope drop! We're lazy bums in the morning. However, we're going to try and make several this trip. We figure the baby will do better in the morning and a long afternoon break. Plus we got those breakfast ADRs. So hopefully we can get our tushies outta bed! :thumbsup2

Oh good, I love that those stupid turnstiles are gone. I'm extremely pooh sized and I have lost 100lbs over the last 2 years (still pooh sized) and those darn turnstiles would still give me heart palpitations!
I am very much a rope drop person, we don't stay out as late most times though. Rope drop will probably work well with your little one though.

We tried for 3 years to get pregnant, and in July they told us we were going to have to go through IVF to get pregnant and VOILA! I got pregnant that exact week on our own. Funny how things work out.

Finally picked a costume for our little Princess to wear at MNSSHP. Have I mentioned we're going Halloween night? Yeah....we're crazy! :scared1:
There's been alot of debate on what to dress her as. I had heard to make it something light because it would probably be warm. But then suddenly people were telling me it would be "cool" so we have finally chosen something that hopefully will keep her warm but not give her heat stroke.
She was Tink last year and that would have been perfect for this year but I don't wanna dress her the same two years in a row.
Anywho, here it is, isn't it adorbs?!

My dh just recently adopted my oldest son who is from a previous relationship, and no it is not the same but I understand the hoops people have to jump through.
I am Pooh sized myself and was sooooo scared :scared1: last year when we finally made our first trip to the house of mouse, but was pleasantly surprised . I poured over trip reports and forums before last year but was so happy when I had no issues on any ride I tried to ride. My only embarrassment was the "belt extender" on KR @ AK.
I knew to expect to mot be able to ride some things at USF/IOA. But after not being able to fit on HPAFJ, I vowed that next trip I will get three clicks.
So now that I am on the 3 click diet I am loosing weight (45lbs so far). I have a long ways to go but I have almost a year to go before we head back to Disney and Harry Potter so I have hope.
Have a magical time. I will be :surfweb: watching for updates.

Yes, adoption is a very beautiful thing. And after a year long legal battle we're ready for it to finally be over. :goodvibes

Okay so I've been working on trying to get our first day scheduled for a while now. We don't have much going on that day but we're still short on time so hoping things go well...
7:30am- Drop furbabies off at doggy spa then immediately head towards Austin.
1:30ish- Check into airport and grab some lunch
3:10pm- Plane leaves for Orlando! :cool1:
6:40pm- Touchdown at MCO, quick restroom break, then book it down to Magical Express.
8:15pm- Check in at Pop (hopefully...I know thats cutting it close), drops bags off in room then immediately take cab over to Contemporary. Find boat launch over to Fort Wilderness.
9:45pm- Check in for Haunted Carriage Ride at FW
10:30pmish- Stumble outta Sleepy Hollow (hopefully still with our heads :scared1:) and over to boat launch to Wilderness Lodge. Grab food at Roaring Fork then take a cab back to Pop.
OMG we're going to be soooo tired. I hate having so much crammed into our first night but it was the only carriage ride opening during our stay. I think we'll be okay though, we've always gone to the parks on arrival day, in fact it's usually a party! :woohoo:
I am however worried about Boo. I'm worried how she will do on the flight and I'm worried this is waaaay too much action in one day for her. Oh and she normally goes to bed at 8pm. So we'll see. Hopefully she'll sleep some during the day and not be such a bear. :headache:

Don't forget the time zone change! It always worked in our favor coming from Central to Eastern - we kept the kids up later than normal and we were fine.
Just stumbled across your trip report and am so glad I read it. Hope this week is the best week ever! Congratulations!!!

I became a Mommy today. It's been a very long time coming. Five years of infertility treatments that were unsuccessful. Two years on an adoption waiting list. Finally in late 2009 we decided to become foster parents in hope of adopting a baby out of foster care.
On July 12, 2010 I got a phone call while driving down the road. There was a newborn baby girl in NICU that needed a home. She was born with two holes in her heart and addicted to multiple drugs. My husband and I had discussed many times what we would be willing to take on and what we wouldn't so I said yes to placement without even calling him.
I drove to the city where she was and stopped at Babies R Us to buy a carseat. Yes, thats all I had for her. We had wanted to prepare but had no idea in the beginning what age we would end up with or gender or anything so it had been impossible. I got to the hospital and met the little girl who ended up changing my world. She was tiny. Covered with all kinds of tubes but she was beautiful and she was perfect. I was scared to even pick her up because she had all sorts of machines connected but the nurse helped me. Soon (just 2 hours after the phone call) I was leaving the hospital and headed home to surprise my husband. Rudy fell in love fast and hard. Harder than me. She was instantly Daddy's Little Princess.
We decided to call her "Boo" from Monsters Inc. CPS told us there was a good chance this case would end in adoption as they knew this mother from previous cases so we didn't want her to get used to her birth name. The next several months were a very hard and scary time in our lives. She went through horrible drug withdraws for three months that would included constant tremors. Also, since she was a foster child there was a chance we could lose her at any time. Yet our hearts grew more in love with her everyday. You can only build walls so high to protect yourself then your baby smiles at you and calls you mama and they come tumbling down. The thought of losing her was unbearable.
In May of 2011 we went to trial to terminate the parental rights after the system had given them multiple chances to get their lives together for their child. They said in court that they loved her and wanted her but they knew she was better off with us. The jury terminated after just three hours of deliberating after a week long trial. It was a horrible thing to witness and I pray I don't have to ever again. Yet at the same time this meant we could finally adopt her....or so we thought.
As we started to prepare for the adoption something happened, something we weren't expecting. Suddenly two people who had said no to the baby when offered at birth decided they wanted her 14 months later. Interesting how they didn't want her when she was a withdrawing newborn with a heart condition but now that she was "perfect" they did. Okay, just another bump in the road. Then we found out they had more rights to her than we did. Sigh. We were devastated. One was a great aunt who lived a thousand miles away and had never even seen her. But obviously, family members have more rights than foster. The other was the foster mom to the baby's two older half siblings. And of course they like to put siblings together when possible even though the girls never lived together or even had any real relationship. Words can't describe how scared we were. I didn't sleep, I didn't eat, I just cried. I constantly cried.
We decided although the odds were against us we were going to fight it with everything we had. We not only had to do it for us but for this baby girl who only knew us as her family. We searched a 100 mile radius and interviewed several attorneys, most who told us we had no chance and finally hired the best we could find that would take the case.
On August 3, 2011 we went to court. It was a scary day to say the least. Everybody going against us was on one side of the room. This included the department who we had worked with diligently for 14 mos. They had written policy that they had to give her to the foster mom who had the older siblings. The caseworker was in tears, she wanted her to stay with us because she knew it was best but her job made her do otherwise. This also included the other foster family and the great aunt and of course a slew of attorneys. On our side of the court room it was us, our attorney, and the baby's attorney who thank God was on our side.
As court started something amazing took place. The judge actually seemed angry at the opposite side of the courtroom. Whaaaat?? He was like how dare they claim that taking this child from the only home she's ever known was in her best interest? He asked what we did wrong to take her from us. They were all silent. None of them had a case other than just simply wanting her a year after they said they didn't. We were in tears because we were just so shocked. However, he didn't give us an answer that day, he said he wanted to sleep on it before making his judgment. So we left still very scared and unsure but we were feeling much better about it.
The next day I got the call that once again forever changed my life. He had ruled in our favor and we were able to proceed with adoption. Happy days were finally here!
On October 11, 2011 we walked into the courtroom as foster parents and walked out as Mommy and Daddy. It's over. We're finally able to love completely without worry that we will lose her at any moment. She is our world.
We leave for WDW in two weeks. This trip is for her. This trip is a celebration of life and love. When we were there on our last trip as Wishes started and we were told to make a wish I closed my eyes and wished the next time we watched Wishes we would be watching with our child. It seemed so impossible at the time after so many years of failed treatments and waiting for adoption calls. But it's true....wishes do come true. You just have to believe!

Joining in. Looking forward to this TR for 2 reasons. First, I'm also pooh sized and remember how panicked I was on our Honeymoon trip in 2009. The only problem I remember having was at a couple of the theatres. I remember having a huge bruise on my thigh from the armrests at Muppet 3D. After that, anytime a seat had armrests, I would sit on the edge of the seat and back into the seat.
I'm also looking forward to hearing how it goes with a toddler. We're hoping to bring our daughter in January 2013 when she'll be about 22 months.
On another note, congratulations on the adoption, you guys are a beautiful family. I seriously cried like a baby reading the story. So happy it turned out for you guys.

The one I had, had plastic behind the sticky stuff, so you peeled that off, set it on the shirt and then took of a top layer of sticky and then ironed. But sometimes you will get a stray crystal....that is the frustrating part.

Count me in as well! I've been reading from the start actually, but just haven't posted yet! Totally awesome PTR and "view" to write your report from. I'm also plus-sized and had some anxiety about our trip when we went this past January. I was also at my highest weight (I've since lost 55 pounds and counting) when we went, but I'm still plus-sized so it's always good to see reports!
I went on every ride that I wanted to when we went. I didn't do ToT last time not due to concerns about my size, but actually because the Twilight Zone terrified me when I was little, and I'm also terrified of haunted hotels. Going on the Haunted Mansion for the first time in 20 years, my initial ride I was hiding my face in my husband's shoulder because I was worried something would jump out at me. :rotfl: Needless to say, we went on it another 7 times as I soon realized that I didn't need to be scared, haha.
So, I'm making myself go on ToT this time! Anyway, sorry for the side story. I'm looking forward to what you have to say about everything. Last time I had issues with the Muppet seating, but sitting on the edge and pushing back slightly helped avoid any sort of bruises.
Last, congrats on your adoption. WHAT a story! Really happy for you guys as it seems like it's been quite a journey. Your daughter is adorable. :) Can't wait to continue to read your PTR/future TR!

One week!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3: :dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3: :dance3:
Okay so lemme see if I can do a mini update for you. Sorry I've been so behind it's been a crazy few weeks, some good, some bad. Mostly good :goodvibes
But Rudy's aunt died on Friday very unexpectantly so we've been busy with family stuff. Our anniversary was Sunday but that's when the rosary was so we didn't celebrate then. Hopefully we will get to some time this week.
Thank you all sooo much for the congrats on the adoption! We're still on :cloud9: it just doesn't seem real yet. We've lived in so much drama and uncertainty in the past 15 mos that we seem lost now that things are back to normal
Now on to the trip news! Couple things have changed. We ended up renting a car through Priceline. We've always used Disney transportation so we're a little worried how we will do driving but decided it would be much easier with the baby. With me being a Pooh my main concern at this point is omg does this mean MORE walking??? Anybody know? How horrible is getting back to the car? I'm used to just walking to the bus stops and sometimes that can be a killer!
About the walking, I have been trying to walk in the evenings but umm that changed when I came across a 5 foot snake :rotfl: So no more evening walks for me! Thinking about whipping out my Walk Away The Pounds DVD in a bit though. Need to just get off my butt and do it. :goodvibes
So with the addition of the rental car this now has me rethinking the preferred room. When I looked at the POP map it appears that the non-preferred rooms are closer to parking lots. I'm really debating calling and trying to downgrade. I mean why pay the extra money if it will only be an inconvenience?
And my final bit of trip news is that Disney contacted me. I'm not sure what they wanted, unfortunately I wasn't able to speak with them. But I've never had them contact me right before a trip. Hopefully everything is cool....is this a new thing? Hoping they call today and I will be sure to answer.
I will try to come on later and respond to some more of ya'lls incredibly sweet posts.
Hope everyone has a very blessed day!!! ;)

The only place I HATE parking at is Magic Kingdom because you have to part at the Ticket & Transportation Center and then monorail or boat over to MK. Everywhere else you can take the tram to where the bus drops you off so it really isn't bad at all. I love having a car. :thumbsup2

Joining in a little late. My husband and I are also Pooh sized and worry every once in awhile about fitting on rides together. We haven't had any issues yet, but we have tried Dumbo or the flying carpets...wondering if that woudl be an issue.
Your adoption story has brought me to tears. Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'm renting from Orlando Stroller so hoping my stroller does all of that. I think it does! :thumbsup2 Also, what a wonderful idea on the Pedialyte! I had no clue they made to go packs! I grabbed some last night at CVS after you told me. :goodvibes

We are there from October 30 until November 5.:banana::banana: We are staying at POFQ.
I cannot wait!!! We are all in need of vacation. Family drama and work has us all crazed.
I am dying to hear about your haunted carriage ride. I think it sounds fantastic but my two girls are a little too tenderhearted for it. They wouldn't sleep for the whole week after that ride.

Hi there! :wave2: Subbing!
I love the ideas behind both your PTR and your reasons for going. Your adoption story melted my heart and I am so happy that things turned out for the best and you and your husband are now happy with child!
I will also be watching on what you have to say about being Pooh sized! I am pooh sized myself and worried about some of the things you have mentioned. Can't wait to read more!

Thanks for following along!!! :goodvibes

Perhaps they were offering you a room upgrade? :rotfl2::lmao:
The only place I HATE parking at is Magic Kingdom because you have to part at the Ticket & Transportation Center and then monorail or boat over to MK. Everywhere else you can take the tram to where the bus drops you off so it really isn't bad at all. I love having a car. :thumbsup2
So sorry about Rudy's aunt.
Hey a girl can dream :lmao:
I'm glad to hear you like having a car there. I really am concerned about it all. Is everything really easy to navigate?

For us we wouldn't be able to ride Dumbo together but at least on Magic Carpets we could take the same carpet I think since it has two rows. It was also a bit tight us sitting together on Nemo last time now that I think about it.
Thank you!! It's a very personal story yet I felt like I had to share it in the trip report because it's what this trip is all about :goodvibes

Okay let's get this show on the road!
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
I had stayed up late the night before so that our bags would be completely packed and all we had to do is load the car and leave. We bought a seat on the plane for the baby so we were allowed 3 checked bags for free since flying JetBlue and we used all three. I also had two large carry ons. I know this seems insane but diapers and baby snacks take up alota room man! We were both a bit concerned at how we would manage to get all of our bags plus Boo and her stroller through the airport.
Our flight was at 3pm out of Austin (about 5 hours away) but the earliest we could drop our furbabies off at the doggy spa was 7:30am. So we got up and got everything and everybody loaded and out the door by 7:30. By the time we dropped the "kids" off and grabbed golden arches for breakfast it was close to 8:30am before we actually hit the road towards Austin. I was a bit panicky because I'm one of those people who like to get to the airport crazy early. I know, I know it's boring but then I don't have to worry about missing our flight.
The trip to Austin was uneventful for the most part. Thankfully the baby slept most the way. We did stop to pee along the way though. And that stop is where I had one of my most disgusting and horrifying experiences as a mother thus far.
We got to the gas station and we knew we both had to go. We're used to this though, we have the drill down. One goes while the other waits with Boo outside. We each say how bad we have to go on a scale of 1 to 10 and the highest number goes first. Easy as that. Usually this works pretty well unless you both REALLY have to pee. So Rudy says he's a 9, I'm only a 8 (very high numbers for us.) Okay, so Rudy you go first. He's not gone long and then it hits me...OMG if I don't pee now I'm going to pee my pants. Panic mode. What do I do with the baby? More panic.
So I decide I'm going to have to take her into that nasty gas station bathroom and somehow juggle her and pee. This is a mommy skill I have not acquired yet because I never take her in with me. When she goes in for a diaper change that's all we do, I never go myself as well. We go in, it's a single unit which I'm happy to see. I managed to keep her off the gross floor and take care of business. I was feeling really proud of myself. But then of course I had to wash my hands. For the life of me I could not wash my hands while holding her. I tried doing one hand at a time and that just wasn't working out and I for sure wasn't going to put her down on that sink.
Oh wait! It's ok, it's ok she can walk now. Doh! How could I forget that?? So this means she can stand there next to me while I'm washing my hands. Excellent. So down she goes to stand there like a good little girl. I wash my hands throughly and as I'm turning to get some paper towels I hear an odd little noise...splish, splash...it's quiet but definitely noticeable. Nothing hits home yet. A little louder SPLISH SPLASH....Oh....my....God. I turn to see what is forever playing in my memory as a nightmare, my 15 month old PLAYING in the water of a Chevron station toilet.
I freak out so bad that I make her cry because I pounce on her to swoop her up like a hawk. I stood there and washed that little girls hands and arms no less than 5 minutes. If I could have given her a bath, I would have. As soon as we come out of the bathroom I tell Rudy get to the car now and get out the baby sanitizer. She then got a full out sanitizer bath in the parking lot. Lesson learned...for all three of us.
Back on the road we went. Our car smelling very fresh and Boo's arms a little red from scrubbing. This incident had set us back some time and we were now cutting things a little close. This was also our first time flying out of Austin so we were worried about finding the airport but we drove right to it. Very easy. This was also our first time using The Parking Spot. That was a very handy service and we were impressed about how quick it was from the time we pulled up to when we were dropped off at our terminal.
So the driver drops us off and it suddenly hits me that I didn't hear our car beep after unloading. "Rudy....did you lock the car?".....silence....."Rudy??", "IT WILL BE FINE!" Ugh...men! So yes we left our fairly new and fairly expensive suv UNLOCKED at the airport for a week. I was so stressed about it but he didn't want to go back because it would have been a hassle. Of course so would have been coming home to no car or even worse, a stripped car. But he was freaking out about getting all our luggage to the counter so I just said screw it. What happens, happens.
We checked in with plenty of time to spare. We had her ID card and showed it but I don't think we needed it. We made it through security without any hassles. I thought maybe I would have a hard time with the juice boxes and stroller but nope, no problems. Neither one of us got the full body scan so I can't comment on that. They had us just hold Boo and walk through the detector. You fold up your stroller and put it on the belt. She doesn't have shoes on 95% of the time so I'm not sure if they would have asked us to take them off her or not.
At this point it's about an hour til boarding and we're all a little hungry so we found a little grill. It was called Lefty's. It was gross. Actually very gross and not much of a menu. But it was close to our gate and had room to just roll the stroller up to our table so it worked. Wouldn't eat there again though. Ew.
Finally 2:45 was here and they called boarding for small children. We made our way onto the plane. Before our trip I had rented a CARES harness for the baby because I didn't want to lug her carseat through the airport. But honestly it was a pain to install on a crowded plane and I figured hey if this plane goes down this thing isn't going to save her anyways so she just sat on our laps. This kept her happy as well.
It was a pretty good flight. I had packed a gazillion things to keep her happy but honestly she didn't need them. We feed her at take off to keep her ears from popping which seemed to work. Gerber Puffs and a plastic spoon was all she needed to be happy. JetBlue also has a TV in front of every seat so Nickelodeon helped entertain. But I have decided Puffs are God's gift to traveling parents. Never leave home without them. I noticed about halfway through the flight she had some weird rash on her face that wasn't there before. I was already visualizing all our vacation photos being ruined with this rash that seemed to be spreading on both of her cheeks and her chin. I'm still not sure what caused it but was thankful I had packed the Benedryl because it was gone by the next morning. It may have been the baby sanitizer although she's used it forever and never had an issue. Perhaps it was the toilet bowl cleaner ;)
Finally the captain came on and told us what we had been waiting to hear for months... "We're approaching Orlando, prepare for landing" :woohoo:

Fit Info
The Parking Spot Bus: No problems. These buses have leather bench seats. There are a few steps to get up into the bus but a handrail is provided.
Lefty's Bar AUS: No problems. Seats have no armrests.
AUS waiting area chairs: No problems. These seats do have armrests but were still comfortable and wide. Chairs did sit low to ground.
JetBlue: We bought three seats so we had plenty of room once we put the armrests up. The seats seemed more comfortable (wider and leg room wise) than American which is what we usually fly. Rudy was able to buckle his belt but I was not. However, I was only lacking maybe 4 inches so these belts are longer than American. Thankfully, I was prepared because I had purchased an extension off of ebay years ago. JetBlue is a Style A (same as American) if you are purchasing one. You can ALWAYS ask the flight attendant for one if you need one. Purchasing is not required. I tried to put my armrests down just to see if it was possible for me and it was not. The only bad thing about keeping the armrest up is that the controls for your TV are on them so it is a bit of a struggle to change the channels. But that is not a deal breaker for me and I would fly with them again. I really enjoyed JetBlue and found them Pooh friendly. :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness, playing in the toilet bowl. Eeeek! I am glad you had the sanitizer handy. That will be a story you tell her for years and years.

I'm glad to hear that about Southwest since they have such a bad reputation when it comes to being Pooh friendly!

Baahaahaa about the bathroom toilet. :rotfl2: You will soon learn the shove the kid between your legs and kind of hold them there with your knees trick. My husband works A LOT and I have learned all kinds of ways to keep my girls trapped while doing things. Thankfully, I don't need those skills too much anymore.
So glad you had a great time. I can't wait to hear about more of your trip. But what I want to see pictures most of all. Boy is your Boo a cutie!

Oh dear God I can't even imagine the bathroom deal. I would've done the same thing as you!
Also, I am a big fan of Jet Blue as well! I've always flown in total comfort with them and love the extra legroom seats (we always fly them from Seattle-Boston as they do direct flights for reasonable prices, so the extra legroom is definitely worth the upgrade!)
Really excited to read your TR! :)
