Hello and welcome to my TR!

I hope you enjoy taking this little journey with my family and I! Here is the link to the PTR if you want to see how this trip came to be ~ http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2724555

A little bit about us. . . This was our lucky number 7 trip to WDW. We started going in 2005 and fell in love and keep going back! :goodvibes

Most of you know me, so I will try to keep the intros brief!

I am a mom to 2 boys, 12 and 9 (almost 10). I have been married to my DH for 13 years. We live in PA, so we love getting away to the warm sunny state of Florida! I am a former hairstylist, former banker, former stay-at-home mom. I guess I shouldn't really say former stay at home mom, I am still at home quite a bit. I work as a Teaching Assistant for our school district a few days a week. :teacher: So I'm not at work everyday and I get my summers off! So what do I do in my spare time? Well I love photography (as you will see very soon by the 1400+ pics that are to come in this TR), scrap-booking, shopping, and planning our family vacations!

DH works very hard and a lot of hours as a Quality Assurance Inspector for a large company outside of Pittsburgh. So he enjoys getting away to WDW as much as possible! I think he's to the point where he loves Disney almost as much as I do!! He is a wonderful husband and father and enjoys taking the boys fishing & coaching DS's soccer team. He unfortunately had an unexpected guest join him on this trip in the PTR we referred to him as Hernia Harry! :scared1: Yes, about 3 weeks before our vacation he found out he had a hernia. Due to the doctor's schedule and our upcoming vacation there wasn't enough time to operate before we left, so old Harry came with us. He has since had the surgery and is on the mend.

DS12 is our oldest and very responsible young man. He is growing up way too fast and I don't like it! He is the reason we took this summer trip. He was starting Middle School this fall and he is your typical first born child a worrier & over-achiever. We weren't sure how he would adjust to the change so we didn't want to pull him out of school so early in the year, otherwise this would have been a fall trip. He enjoys video games, reading, being with his friends, playing outside, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler, and Disney! He is very out-going and hilarious and loves to be the center of attention.

DS9 (will be 10 in a few weeks) is our little guy. He is very laid back and easy-going. Doesn't worry about a thing. We always joke that he'll never have an ulcer!! He loves Lego's, playing video games, Pokemon, Star Wars, fishing, playing outside, and playing soccer. He is a huge Disney fan. He might be the only one in the family who loves Disney as much as I do. Him and I could sit and talk Disney for hours! He is a very picky eater, which always makes dining on vacation interesting.

Our trip was August 26 ~ September 4, 2011. We stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort (third time staying there) the first five nights with Free Dining and then moved over to the Polynesian (first time staying there) for the last four nights in the Club Level building. :cloud9:

Day 1 – Friday August 26

So between DH's hernia and the impending tropical storm/hurricane Irene, things were looking pretty bad for our trip in the weeks before. Especially on Monday of the week we were to leave they were saying that Irene had turned into a hurricane and was headed straight for Florida and would be arriving there on Friday morning. Gee, guess who else was due to arrive in FL Friday morning??? Yep, us. :scared1: But as you know Irene headed east and missed FL. DH got the okay to travel from the surgeon. And all went as planned.

We had waited all summer and it was finally here – Friday August 26!! I woke and thought – this is it, it's time!! Until I looked at the clock and it was 3:30am and I realized we had another hour before we actually needed to get up.....So I laid there, but never did get back to sleep of course. At 4:30 I got up and woke everyone else and we got ready and left the house at 5:30. We were to the off-site parking lot by 6:30 and to the airport by 6:45. We checked 2 pieces of luggage and we each had a carry-on with us. There were very little lines for security and we went right through. Both DH and I had to go in the full body scan/picture thing, first time for that. It wasn't very long until we were at our gate waiting to board.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/e59cd419.jpg

The flight left on-time and was very uneventful. And in under two hours we were there and on our way to Magical Express!! :cool1:

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/7d389117.jpg

We made our way there and found our resort line.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/65917f92.jpg

Our bus was only going to CBR and POP. And CBR was the first stop.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/311033d4.jpg

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/462a0d38.jpg

And in about 30 minutes we were arriving at CBR!

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/858a6721.jpg

There was absolutely no line for check-in!

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/ccc65e74.jpg

I got a super nice CM at check-in. I asked her if we could please have a top floor room and she said – sure, let me take a look.....And then said that we were in a top room floor! So I asked which village and she got out the little map and showed me Jamaica!! Jamaica 45 to be exact. Excellent location! And we knew this because we had stayed in Jamaica 45 on our very first WDW trip! We were actually 2 rooms down from our room the first time.

Since we had our carry-ons with us we couldn't take the internal resort shuttle to our room. So we went out to Bell Services and told them we needed a transport to our room. In about 5 minutes a van pulled up and got us loaded and on our way to Jamaica!

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/d5e5c0dc.jpg

The CM driving the van was very friendly and offered us many little tips about the resort. He took our luggage up to the room for us and was very helpful. We were in room 4547.

From the van to the room ~

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/4ac4fc1c.jpg

We didn't bother to unpack because we were all very hungry. So we headed straight over to the Old Port Royale Food Court. . .

I'm subscribing! The Polynesian is my favorite place to stay in WDW. I was hooked after my first stay there by the beautiful ambiance, the lush greenery, the island tunes, and, most importantly, the food (three words: Dole Whip machine!). I can't imagine staying anywhere else, although there are other nice places I should probably check out.

Looking forward to hearing all about this one! CBR? My only and absolute favorite resort! The picture of the bridge just brought back that jittery feeling of excitement I get when I first see it. My family and I were there August 2-11, 2011 and we just miss it like crazy.

Hope you had a blast and can't wait to read the rest of your trip report.

I'm getting in at the beginning this time! We were at CBR the same time, we were in bldg. 51. We used the Jamaica bus stop most of the time since it was closer to our room. We probably passed by each other at one time or another!

Love the name Harry the Hernia. I'm glad he didn't give him any trouble. I thought I was the only one who named body parts! I had a tumor removed last year and I named her Farrah Fatball, she was the daughter I never had!

I'm not sure how full CBR was. It's always so quiet there so it's hard to tell. We had room neighbors come and go during our stay, so Jamaica definitely had some guests. But the main pool was never crowded! So I doubt the resort was very full.

So you picked the day I would be gone all day to start your TR! I hate being late! :sad2: I rode with my GF to the city where she is from (about 2 hrs.) for her dr.'s appt. Just a yearly checkup and mammo, but she freaks out so I went to keep her company and calm. I've been down that road before. All was fine!

First things first: You do not look old enough to be the mom of those 2 boys! Disney must make you look young! (time for me to schedule a trip ) Love the first dress and how y'all color coordinated! It's a great family pic.

The kids wanted pizza, even though we had an ADR at Via Napoli that evening. So that's what they got! We had the DDP during the CBR portion of this trip, so we all had to get full meals with a dessert & everything. DH and I got burgers. He got fries with his and I had macaroni salad. We both got a chocolate PB cupcake for our dessert, they looked better than they actually were. But everything else was good!

Okay - great start!!! Of course, you had to have a good day - it was my birthday!! You really lucked out with the room being ready and in a great location!
I like that picture of you and DH walking holding hands - you guys are so cute!!

I think it must just be me - but we NEVER get there and have our room ready - even when we arrive in the afternoon! We always have to wait for the text (which sometimes doesn't come!) or call after 3:30! Drives me nuts.

Loving all the resort pics! Does anywhere have a cooler looking food court than CBR? If so, I don't know about it. Glad to hear the food was good. Was that macaroni salad really good or just ok? Sometimes those can be a little funky at places like that, but I love it if it's fixed right... one of my favorite side dishes. I know you told me earlier that the pasta salad was really good so I was wondering if that was the same thing you were talking about.

I need to hand off the camera to my DD more often to get some pics of DH and me. I swear sometimes when I'm looking through my vacation pics, I wonder if I was actually even there! I'm never in any pictures! I hate to have my picture taken, but I would like for my DD to have proof when she's grown that I WAS there! The one of you and your DH is really sweet! :cutie: That canon is pretty cool too.

And to answer your question... yes, we have requested Jamaica 45 on our ressie. Sure hope we get it b/c your pics have me drooling! It is such a pretty color combo in that area. I mean, I would never paint my own house yellow, blue and white, but for the theme of CBR is it beautiful!

I can't think of a cooler looking food court than CBR's!!

Funny thing about the mac/pasta salad! I left DH at that station to order for us. I told him I wanted the pasta salad as my side instead of fries, because I remembered how good it was last time. So anyway -- I went with the kids to get their pizza. When I met up with DH at the table I had macaroni salad as my side. :confused3 DH says he asked for pasta salad, but who really knows.... The macaroni salad was good anyway, with nothing funky in it!!

I used to be like that - we would come home from trips and you would swear I wasn't even there from the pics! :upsidedow But DS12 has become quite the little photographer over the years and it's nice to have those pics of DH & I!

I hope you get Jamaica 45!! :wizard: I can't wait to hear all about your cruise and your trip! :yay:I'm going to have to unsubscribe from your TR. All these pics of CBR are making me homesick! Enjoyed seeing all the pics of CBR and the food court. The food looked good. I simply love that little courtyard outside of bldg 45, I never ever knew that CBR was so nice. DH is still stuck on it is too big, I give up. Can not wait to see your review for Via Napoli.
Just read that Tutto Italia will be closed for refurb when we are there in March which as it turns out is just fine since I did not make an ADR there.

I'm going to have to unsubscribe from your TR. All these pics of CBR are making me homesick! I'm going to miss being there this December. I'm so nervous to stay at ASMo after so many wonderful stays at CBR. Maybe we'll have to stop by, explore the island and have lunch at OPR just to reminisce a bit.

We stayed there (AStars) when the boys were little and I looooved it!
Shelly, great pics!

We stayed at CBR for our honeymoon but haven't been back. I think we stayed in Aruba?? is that a section? The pics do bring back memories :)
Can't wait to hear about Via Napoli. We almost ate there this time. But too many restaurants not enough time! :(

We got all unpacked and rested and watched TV a bit and then decided we'd head out to Epcot. We weren't planning to head out until closer to our ADR time, but we were all excited and ready to go. :yay: Even if it was the hottest part of the day!! :faint: So we headed out to the bus stop and were to Epcot in no time.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/04acb407.jpg

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/997fe90f.jpg

We took a look at the wait time board and Soarin and TT were both over an hour. And there were no fastpasses left for Soarin. Great. :sad2: My kids don't want for anything over 20 minutes! So we went to TT and did the single rider line. DS9 would never do this before, but he ended up being fine and we were glad we did it because unfortunately this would be our only TT ride the whole trip. But more on that later....

Up next was Mexico! Epcot was not empty by any means that day and we hoped that wasn't a sign of things to come for the entire vacation, especially after all that we had heard about how slow the end of August was supposed to be.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/f694f39b.jpg

But The Gran Fiesta Tour had no wait of course! Does is ever?

Ok Shelly..we are in a bit of a pickle....we are due for our 45 day mark next week and so far-no room discount and we are not eligible for the FD...which isn't really a better deal for us out of the two. SO!!! We are not gonna do the Contemporary Theme Park view and pay rack rate---we are considering cheaper options for rooms in case no codeor pin becomes available. All that to say, I am looking at doing adjoining rooms at the Caribbean-your job:convince me:rotfl:
It would be a teeny weeny bit more than doing a Gardenwing room at the Cont, but if they are sold out I need options. Family suites are always an option, but I don't know if dh is gonna go for it- we are considering a split stay and end over at the Cont in the tower...but I gotta make some decisions over the weekend...hate that I am in a last minute crunch like this, but if you take out the deluxe rooms, there are not many options for a family of 5 without doing 2 rooms....I also wanted your opinion on what buildings/rooms we should request. Also,,what should we totally AVOID!? Thanks...we are about to become desperate!!! LOL!! I even started to consider this resort because you and Kim love it so much!

Epcot was busy that night! Thankfully, we only went for dinner at Teppan Edo and Illuminations. We did ride Spaceship Earth and Mission Space with little wait, I considered those bonuses. Okay, I know many of you have been waiting for this one. Sorry if it disappoints! :guilty:

We got to Via Napoli just in time for our ADR. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/7af02d6d.jpg

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/7533a2d7.jpg

It was hot and the kids were already saying they didn't feel like eating. We had lunch kind of late and our dinner was kind of early (only ADR I could get), so I wasn't exactly starved either. I knew from the way DS9 was acting that he wasn't going to eat a thing. So I knew from the start that this wasn't going to be the best experience. I usually don't make an ADR for arrival night and I guess I should have stuck to that! Our server was nice, but kind of hard to understand and very slow.

Since the kids weren't hungry I just ordered one kids pizza meal for them to share. DH ordered the “Candele - candle stick pasta, sausage ragu, polpettine, mozzarella, ricotta” and I ordered “ Margherita individual pizza - tomato, mozzarella, basil”. None of us were blown away with our meals.

Everything was just very plain and average. :confused3 When we were done it was time for dessert, which we had kind of forgotten about. Last year we went without the DDP and we loved the freedom!! We are not ones to eat dessert right after dinner, we prefer to wait until later. But – we were forced so this is what we chose!

DH got “Tiramisu - Mascarpone cream, espresso coffee, lady fingers, and chocolate” and I got the “Zeppole di Ricotta - Ricotta cheese fritters, served with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Both were very good! The kids got a sundae.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%201/4d0b580a.jpg

When it came time to pay the bill it took forever. Our waiter didn't seem to know exactly what he was doing and had to get help from someone else. Overall we were not impressed with the service or the food, other than the desserts.

Total Bill: $79.35
Rating: 6 out of 10

Your pizza looked good. Sorry it was disappointing. :(

And oh my word-- Tirimisu is my favorite dessert ever! That looked so yummy!

I guess you won't be going back there. :headache:That's so sad- we had such high hopes.
Maybe you should have stuck with the belly dancer supper. It might have gotten a better review from you guys.

Shawna-- When we stayed at Poly we were in Fiji overlooking the marina. I loved it there- but the bathroom with one sink and all of it in one bathroom with no doors to the toilet/shower might be a little small for the 5 of you. Hope you get a good room and you like it!

Okay here's what happened to me---- at 5 am my alarm goes off like normal- I always get up an hour before I have to get the kids up. I roll over and I was actually very angry with myself for setting the dang thing and said out loud... "Ugh I'm soooo glad it's Saturday but now I'll never get back to sleep." Well, guess I didn't have much trouble with that b/c before I knew what happened, Mark was waking me at 6:50 just as Belle's bus was rolling past.

:scared1:

Had to drive her to school and she was almost late.

I've never ever ever never done that before in my life. I guess I must have needed the sleep.

So--- not as bad as it could have been but I've been feeling like it's Saturday all dang day.:cool2:

Shelly - so sorry your meal at Via Napoli was somewhat a disappointment, at least the desserts were good. I have an adr for lunch on arrival day, so I know we will be starved, and we are going strictly for the pizza. I just hope JB does not change our flight times too much, I did make 2 ADR's just in case one for 12:45 and one for 2pm incase we get in late.

I am still waiting on my $ back from JB from them overchargeing me $262 when I changed our flights. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks  so I call and get this according to the supervisor only part of my credit was processed, they took the $ out of my Travel bank where they frst placed my refund but never credited my Visa. :headache: I hope I get it , she said I should have it in less than 7 days , so we shall see.

Shawna - Great move going with the Poly and FD :thumbsup2 Tokelau is the bldg I think I have in my notes to request when I was researching the Poly, although I do not remember why now.

We are doing Tony's in MK for the 1st time too, but I have been wanting to try Via Napoli for so long, I think the pizza looks yummy.

Well I hope you got the dud meal out of the way and the rest were 5-star meals! ;) I have to agree about your DH's dinner! It didn't look so bad, but it's such a huge blob! I wouldn't have eaten it because of the sausage. And I have no idea what polpettine is. :confused3 I like Italian food, but we hardly ever have it because my DH hates cheese. :sad2: Your pizza looked ok, but I guess nothing too special. The desserts looked yummy though! And the place looks nice. And cute pics of the 4 of y'all!

Too funny, Jo! But better to have it happen on a school day than on a day you had to get to the airport to fly to WDW! ;)

Hey Shelly,
Just found my way over here!! Really enjoyed the first day of your trip!!!! Love the pictures of CBR!! Really looking forward to more!

Welcome Jen! :goodvibes Glad you are enjoying the TR!
Eh, I don't like disappointing meals. What a bummer Shelly! You caerfully plan these meals for months and when they don't go as planned, it sort of stinks.

Yeah, it was a little disappointing, I was expecting it to be better. Oh well, now we know!
Well I knew you didn't like VN too much. But daaaaaaaaaaaang- that monstrous THING on your DH's plate made me giggle!!!!!!!! What the heck was that? It looked like a mess!

I don't even know what DH got. He's not even sure he got what he ordered! :rotfl:

Nope, we won't be in a hurry to get back there.

The desserts were good though! :thumbsup2

Too bad Via Napoli didn't meet your expectations, other than desserts, which looked really good. Your husband's meal looked huge, that could feed two people.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Can't wait for another post!

We wanted to eat at VN this trip too but just didn't have time. Kinda glad we missed it. But then again you never know with Disney rest. One time you may hate it next time love it. It probably didn't help that you just weren't hungry- that happens a lot you can't enjoy anything no matter how good it is.

Whatever that was that your DH had could have fed all of you!
I think sometimes when I'm not hungry, it's harder to get excited about a meal, and then if it isn't amazing, then it's really just blah.

Oh - circling back to is Gran Fiesta ever busy? YES! We had to WAIT IN A LINE for more than 5 minutes back in March. Shocking, I know!

Sorry your DH has to lounge at home longer. I hope he doesn't go nuts!

Okay yes, indeed the Gran Fiesta can be busy. We experienced the same thing one night we were there this trip. In fact, there was a lady (that I'm sure wasn't all there mentally) behind Mark and as we were waiting in line- it started moving- barely-- and she took her finger and kept poking it in his back hard saying, "Go. Move. Move up. Go. Move. Move up. Go. Move. Move up." ------ before he could even take a step. It continued on for about two minutes. I felt bad for her, but honestly it was really kind of strange.

Just a quick update tonight since I probably won't get one up tomorrow because I have to work!

After our Via Napoli dinner we continued our way around World Showcase. Making stops at Germany and Japan. We all wanted to hit the Caramel store in Germany, especially DH who wanted to get some chocolate & caramel covered popcorn that he had gotten last year. And I was looking for a MM necklace in the Kunstarbeit Kristall store. And the kids were looking for Pokemon stuff in Japan!

Great update Shelly! That's a bummer about VN, but I'm glad you got your necklace finally! I am looking for something similar, but hollow in the middle. If that makes sense  Kind of like it's dangling from one of his ears. I have seen it before, but I don't remember where

Oh - and I literally called Bob in here from downstairs to look at the picture of the Werther's popcorn. He loves Werther's original and always buys them.:confused3

And then I call him old and ask him if he would like some Benefiber and Murder She Wrote to go along with them :rolleyes1

Great mini Epcot review, I forgot all about Germany and the new Werthers Shop, I am thinking that popcorn would be great to take back to the room for fireworks watching. I see you did get your necklace, glad you found it! Did the boys find enough pokeman stuff to buy in Japan?

I sat DH down yesterday to show him your previous update with Via Napoli, he thought your DH entree looked good plus he loves tiramesu and now says I can get pizza the is going to order pasta. All along he has wanted to go there for the pizza :headache: Men sure can be strange but I know what he is thinking, that he will get half my pizza since I usually give him half of whatever I have.

Your World Showcase pictures a great! I love the carmel shop, the smell is so wonderful and if they bottled it I would buy it! If they merged the wine and carmel shop together I would be in heaven!

Sangria for everyone!!!!!!!

Yeah, I might have offered to let her go in front of us!

Pretty necklace, Shelly - you say that was in Germany? Hmmm maybe while I send DH and the girls to get caramel goodies, I should look in there!
I could go for some good caramel corn right about now...

Well haay! What a great update! Shopping in Epcot. Love it!
The necklace.... :) so glad you got it and on the first day too! I love mine. Did you see the one that was the MM ears? I wanted to get that one too but decided I didn't need another one... Yet.

Thanks for the wonderful update. I'm off to polish my $37000 blinged out castle now.
:rotfl:

There's not much better than shopping and WDW, so put them together and what do you get == One happy mama!! :goodvibes:rotfl:

I don't remember the one that has MM ears....I probably did see it though. I looked through them all for quite awhile!

Did you get your $37000 castle all polished up???

Oh and your pics of CBR have won DH over he actually said he would consider staying there someday. :):thumbsup2

Oh yes, that popcorn is good for just about any time!! ::yes:: Yep, the kids found plenty of Pokemon stuff in Japan!

I hope you guys love VN! :wizard:

Maybe you'll get to stay at CBR one day!:goodvibes
I hate that you guys weren't all that impressed with Via Napoli. I'm now thinking that I'll mark it off my list of "maybe we'll try that restaurant" list.

Yay for doing a little shopping around World Showcase. I debated buying that same necklace this past trip.

Maybe you should give VN a try one day. Maybe it was just us. :confused3 I don't know!!

You should get that necklace. I just love mine! It's just the right size and is so pretty.

Yum, yum. The caramel shop always sounds and looks so yummy. I like your necklace Shelly! :)

The caramel shop is so good! And as a bonus you can walk right next door (without having to go outside) into the crystal shop and buy a pretty necklace!! :goodvibes

Yikes, I have always believed we eat with our eyes first and that slop on your dh's plate makes me cross Via Napoli off my list since I probably would have ordered that! We had a disappointing experience at Tutto Italia this year, maybe Tony's will be our Italian place next time.

Your World Showcase pictures a great! I love the carmel shop, the smell is so wonderful and if they bottled it I would buy it! If they merged the wine and carmel shop together I would be in heaven!

That's true. I kind of feel the same way -- if something looks gross it probably is gross! :rotfl:

I'd really like to try Tony's next time. I've never been interested, but have been hearing some good things recently.

Bottled caramel shop smell :cloud9: Yummy!

Yeah, I might have offered to let her go in front of us!

Thanks Sheree. :) Yep, right in the crystal shop that is connected to the caramel shop.

I have one bag of the caramel corn left if you want to come over!!:rotfl:

Trying to get caught up over here. I've been a little preoccupied with life lately.

Too bad about VN. I was thinking about eating there next month, but maybe we'll skip that. The tiramisu looked great though, but I can get that at the Olive Garden.

I am so ready to try out that caramel shop though. What is your favorite thing you have gotten in there?

Totally taking over her thread! LOL...we got a piece of the Chocolate Caramel fudge--holy cow, it would melt in your mouth!!! Sooo good...also, we got a caramel covered Apple--i have never had anything that good--you HAVE to get one!!! I think I will get the popcorn bags to bring home next time--kinda drag out the magic!!!! We got other types of fudge there, but the plain chocolate one was our favorite. But that apple.....man, when we got home my two younger kids kept asking about it. It was, in fact, one of the favorite things about that entire trip!!!!

Hmm.....there are A LOT of good things in that shop!! :lovestruc Probably the best is the chocolate & caramel covered strawberry. A total rip off at $4 each, but SO GOOD!! The chocolate & caramel covered pretzels are very good too.

We got the freshly made caramel-corn this time, but it tasted stale to us. :confused3 Make sure to get the prepackaged bags of caramel/choc popcorn to take home! We just finished our last bag last night.

Good morning! :goodvibes As promised, an update today!! This is the rest of our first day --

After our trip around World Showcase we decided it was time to head back to Future World. So we headed over to see Nemo!

After a fun little ride we messed around inside the building for awhile.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%202/f6e11beb.jpg

By this time we were all getting pretty tired since we had been up since 4:30am (well 3:30 for me!), but the kids wanted to do one more ride before heading back to CBR for the night.

So Spaceship Earth it was!

If we had kept our original September dates for our trip, we would be there right now. Am I sorry we're not? Shawna you guys sure had a terrible summer with the heat and no rain this year. I hope you get your cooler temps!

I can not tolerate the high temps and humidity like when I was youngers, what with my asthma and copd, I would have been spending a lot of time in our room with the a/c I am sure had we been there this week. I'm not even sure what the Vinylmations are all about! :upsidedow They are just everywhere at WDW right now. In every character and color you can think of. Some are very expensive. And there are places you can trade them, but you can't see what you are getting when you trade. So it's risky! The kids didn't trade any for that reason.

The prepackaged caramel/choc popcorn is $7.95 a bag. Expensive, but well worth it! :cloud9:

Shelly, have you checked out the Pittsburgh Popcorn Company when you come down towards the city? There are 2 locations, one in the strip district and one in downtown on Liberty. They have AWESOME caramel chocolate corn there and it might be close to what they have in Disney. :thumbsup2
I haven;t been in the caramel store yet, so I don't know. But it's really good either way! :cool1:

My DS10 loves club cool too! It must be a boy thing. I agree some of the sodas are just plain GROSS.
And Spaceship Earth is one of both DS's favorite rides. They love making funny faces for the make your future video. We must have gone on that ride like 6x this trip. LOL

Enjoying the trip report! Subbing Loved the pic of your DS in a hat in Mouse Gears. If I had a dime for every picture I have of my DS or myself in a kooky Disney hat I'd be rich! I'm never tempted to buy them (where would I wear them??) but we sure love taking each other's pictures in them. :santa:pirate:princess::firefight:crazy::jester: - just some of the smiles I could find wearing hats:rotfl:

Day 2 Saturday August 27

After a good night's sleep we were up early and ready to get to MK!! We had a 10:20 ADR for breakfast at Crystal Palace, so our goal was to get lots done before then. We arrived around 8:30 and had a great spot right up front for the opening show. It was pretty hot out already, but not terrible yet. I think it was going to be around 94 that day.

Great pictures..as usual!! Love the one of you and hubs!! Very precious! I can NOT wait!! We usually dont hit RD-I think we have made it to the actual song & dance thing at MK once and that is it for any park! I really want to make it to our first MK day, and our HS day at least this time....How does the "let the magic begin" and the big photo holder seem to you? Is it too much...I mean, is it gaudy? I can't tell from the pictures...I really thought it would be more stuff for the 40th anniv and have pics or memorabilia with opening day photos if anything....

We always do PP first too!!! I think it's b/c it's the only ride we do in FL. Except this trip I made the boys do IASW for the first time since 2005 I think. They were so mad at me but they lived lol. I told them they don't have to do it again. But after that we always head over to BTMR and Splash for a ride and FP.
What a great spot you had for opening show. Was the date the 21st? If so we were in MK too! but it was our arrival day so we probably didn't get to the park until around 11 am that day

IDK why we always do PP first. I guess it's just what we did on the first trip and it has remained tradition! Well that and the fact that if you don't get there right away the line gets huge fast! :upsidedow

Love the MK update, Shelly! I don't think we ever missed a rope drop on our last trip - which was great for the lines and crowds, but too much for 6 or 7 days. I wish I had known then how it's possible to do Disney without killing yourself! I love PP too, and we try to do it one of the first things as well. And I agree that Philharmagic is awesome! How weird to be on any attraction at Disney that isn't packed! I don't think I have ever experienced that.

The pic of you and your DH walkind down Main Street is adorable!

Dear Shelly, my wealth of information ;) do you know what all the construction going on is going to result in? Any new attractions that you know of? It seems like it has been going on for so long!

The guy in the picture behind you made me :lmao: I wonder where that guy is right now. OK, I always wonder weird stuff like that.

It really looks like the crowds were not big at all! Unless it was the calm before the storm. But I hope not! :goodvibes

Hope you have a great weekend!

P.S. to Jodi: Go Gators! Destroy the Tide, pleeeaasseee!

I can't remember what it will be called, but there is going to be a whole new area of the park! Beast's Castle, The Dwarves Cottage from Snow White and more!! I'm excited for the changes. Just another reason to go back in a few years! :thumbsup2

I don't think I ever saw Mickey's toon town , the last place I recall is Mickey's birthday land, I am wondering now if toon town was there back in '97 or if we just skipped it maybe :confused3
I do so hate all the construction walls all over the place, I better warn DH about it before we get there and I have to listen to him grumble about it.
I love Crystal Palce for breakfast can't wait to see your review.

No, watching at home. And we look terrible. :sad2: Morning game + team we should beat easily = recipe for disaster. At least that's how it has always been at LSU. Add to that our QB coming back from suspension and being put in on 4th and goal, replacing the guy who has got us to 4-0.......:headache:
Come on, Tigers!!! Maybe we're just saving all our good plays for next week. ;)

IDK when Mickey's Toontown opened. It has been there ever since we started going in 2005.

I used to be able to do them several times in a row -- just a couple of years ago. But not now. Once is it. :sad2: Getting old bites!! :headache: And poor DS12 has to go by himself if he wants to keep going because DH & DS9 don't do thrill rides!

So did everyone hear about the room discounts coming out for the winter???

I got an email yesterday for Disney Visa Cardholders only and it says it will go to the general public on Wednesday.

Dates: Jan 2, 2012 - Feb 20, 2012:

25% off Values, but only 20% off ASMo
30% off Mods, but only 25% off POFQ
35% off Deluxe and Villas, but only 30% off AKL & Poly

Interesting....I don't think any room discounts ever came out for fall dates and this one is for such a short time. I wonder if bookings are up for fall and spring and they are only going to give out discounts for the winter....:confused3

I wish they had included just a few weeks, a 35% discount would be way better than FD for going in March. Oh well:sad1:
I did go play around with some Jan and Feb dates and there seems to be tons of availability for the dates I checked but then Jan and Feb are normally slow times I think :confused3
The time I went in late January it seemed busy to me but then again I was there on a weekend too.

I know what you mean about the rides too. I'm still able to ride things multiple times, but last year we did ToT a few times back to back, and I felt it  I think this trip may be one of my last times that I can pull it off :sad2:

5 more days!!! :cool1:

It feels weird to be going for such a short trip though. We have never gone for anything less that like 8 days  I think I am going to blink and it will be over.

You'll have to let me know if the shorter trip is worth it or not. How many days are you going for? We are considering a 5 or 6 day winter-hold-us-over trip, but I'm just not sure it will be worth it to justify the airfare for that short of a trip....:confused3

We will have 4 full days there, we arrive Thurs night and leave Tues morning. I feel like if you have AP's, then it may be worth it if you can get a room discount.

But, for the shorter trips having to pay for tickets is SO annoying. It was over $600 for the 2 of us for 4 days. :scared1: I just kept thinking "Like $50 or $100 more would get us both 10 day tickets..." :sad2:

We aren't paying for the room at all though, so that helps us. I'm guessing that this trip is costing a little less than half of what a normal long trip to WDW would cost us, but that is because we aren't paying for lodging. If you can get something for free/already paid for/cheap I am guessing it would be worth it, but it's hard to say...

I'll let you know how I feel about mini trips when we get back. :thumbsup2 I'm still excited just to get a taste of the magic to hold me over for a little while :cloud9:

I think a "snowbird" trip sounds like fun as far as going for a shorter trip, this upcoming trip in March(5nights) will be the shortest we ever took when flying, I can certainly understand how the cost to fly for a family of 4 can make or break the budget for a short trip we have done 5 day trips before when we drove and quite honestly the first 3 days of any trip for me at least seem to last and last and then it seems like time speeds up and whether we have stayed for 5, 7 or 10 days the rest of the trip just flys by. Our last trip was 7 days and it did seem to go by a bit slower since we took our time more going back to the resort each afternoon so that each day almost seemed like 2 days, if that makes any sense.
I did do a weekend trip in January, 2006 Fri, Sat and Sunday, left around noon on Monday(resort day) and it was totally worth the airfare to getaway during the winter.

We actually have a 4 night getaway booked for Jan (the kids have a 4 day weekend for MLK bday). But we are dvc members so we don't have to pay for the room and we have annual passes this year. So we really only had to pay for airfare and we got 2 1/2 of the tickets free with credit card points! So excited! We are staying at Wilderness Lodge for the first time. And it is a lso a suprise for the kids! They have no idea and won't know until we get to the airport.
We did Via Nappoli last year and the pizza was pretty good, but the calamari was the best i've ever had! It was expensive though! We didn't have a meal plan and a large pizza is around $40!

Then it was time for the character parade. DS12 joined in! DS9 was being a grump and would go.

We were about finished and Eeyore was getting close, so we waited on him.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%202/1646eead.jpg

Pooh was still on the other side of the room and we had been in there for an hour at this point, so we decided not to wait. So we finished up, paid our bill, and headed out.

Service and food and characters were awesome as always at Crystal Palace.

Aw, your DS9 is going to be DS10 tomorrow! I know it is happy/sad all rolled into one. But no matter how old he is, he'll still be your baby. Mine are in their 20's, but I still think of them as my babies. How does he want to celebrate his day?

I can't believe how cold it is up where you are! I wish we were a little cooler down here. We've had a beautiful weekend, but a little cooler would be even better.

Boy, you were quick with that update! :thumbsup2 I just love the way CP looks. I think I'd go there even if the food wasn't good. We've never been for breakfast, and I think I would like that the best. Everything on your plates looks delicious! (better be good, at $80+)

Love the pics of Tigger with the boys! Now you see 'em, now you don't!

Yep - they are still my babies, whether they want to be or not!! :rotfl:

We wanted a new DSi for his birthday, so we went and got that yesterday. And went to Red Lobster for dinner. And then to Burger King for lunch today. And I made him a cake and we will have that a little later!

It is freezing up here!!!! :sad2:

It is really nice in the CP. :goodvibes Always so bright and cheery and fun!

But yes, expensive. :scared1: We made sure to go there during the part of the trip we had the DDP! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the update Shelly!

I have never been to CP for breakfast, just once for lunch - but it was great! I love how much variety they have there. And you're right, the atmosphere is always bright and cheery in there. :cool1:

And look how full DS9's plate is!! I bet you were so proud of him! :rotfl:

I started packing today. Since it's freezing outside we have been cleaning and doing laundry and it's been going straight into the bag. We are doing carry on only this trip, so I am trying to be smart about how much I bring.

I bought a soft sided bag with wheels from the Sunglasses and Totes store at Tanger that I am hoping will fit once it's full. It's my first time using it to fly and it looks a little big, so I hope they don't make me check it

I love Crystal Palace, Pooh and friends are my personal favorites. I still have my very well loved stuffed Pooh that I got when I was one and lets just say that was a LONG time ago. We haven't been in several years because my son got "too cool" for characters but he's outgrown that embarrased about everything phase now so looking forward to going back to CP next visit. We won't be going back till 2013 (unfortunately) as I'm graduating from Nurse Practitioner school in Dec '12 and my son (gasp) will be graduating from high school in May '13 so we'll have a big graduation bash trip.

Luckily DS12 is only embarrassed of those types of things around here. For now! I guess he figures he doesn't know anyone at WDW so he doesn't need to act cool. :cool2:

That is going to be an awesome graduation trip for you and your DS!! :cool1:

Happy 10th B-Day to your DS!

Love the update and pics of Crystal Palace. It is the one Character Meal I can take DH to without any complaints, in fact when I was planning the trip with my DS and his wife in 2010 he requested CP cause he loves Pooh, Tigger and Piglet and he was 40 at the time.

I think it is great that your DS can get "into" Disney while there, mine were always the same way , it may not have been cool at home to do some of the things or hug a character but they were fine with it while at Disney. I have read some reports where the older kids in a family pout the entire trip and I think that would just drive me totally crazy.

Is your bag the one with the wheels, and has an extendable handle?

 I know you would have been done packing forever ago. I am usually in that club too. This is the longest I have ever waited to pack. I normally would have started weeks ago, I guess I just didn't want to over do it. :confused3

And I feel super unprepared for this trip. We're kind of flying by the seat of our pants this time.

Oh, I've been remiss in my DISing lately! My own TR is suffering - I have like one day left to do, and it's been forever. You'll probably finish yours before I finish my March trip!
I saw the VISA offer for Jan/feb and want to go so badly! But we have DVC so the room offers don't do much for us anymore. I wish they had good ticket discounts instead! Like BOGO Free! HA!

Happy birthday to your DS! - you need to update your signature now!

Those short trips are tough, but totally worth it!! We have rarely stayed more than 6 nights ever! A lot of times, 4 or 5 days is enough to get us through until the next time. But we don't always fly either. So we're spending two to three days driving. I'd rather fly. Why do things have to be so darn expensive???

To ds10! My youngest will be 10 soon too, but before that my oldest ds will be 13.

Crystal Palace breakfast is the only buffet we go to. Ds loves the strawberries with whipped cream and the breakfast pizza so its always his pick even though they are way past the Winnie the Pooh characters. Don't believe the wait staff when they tell you the orange juice is fresh squeezed from a nearby farm, I saw him pouring minute maid into the carafe!:rotfl2:

Seeing the Magic Kingdom so empty makes me smile. I love the end of August crowds!

Luckily my DS12 won't be 13 until next spring. I am totally not ready for a teenager. :upsidedow

My kids pick CP for the buffet too, not the characters. But at least they humored me and had their pictures taken with them!

That is funny about the orange juice. :rotfl:

We hadn't originally planned to stay too long after our breakfast at Crystal Palace because of the heat. But MK was so slow that day and we were dealing well with the heat, so we decided to keep going.

So off to the POTC we went! And there was no wait!!

We enjoyed a refreshing ride on the POTC and even got a little wet. We stopped for a quick sword battle and then were on our way to Frontierland.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%202/ac0b264b.jpg

We (DS12 and I) thought about Splash Mtn, but is had a 20 minute wait and BTMRR didn't have a wait at all so we decided on that instead! DS10 decided to join us. DH and Hernia Harry decided to sit this one out.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%202/6cc96bc1.jpg

DS12 enjoyed it very much, but DS10 didn't think it was so great. :confused3

After big thunder we met back up with DH and we went over to the HM.

DS12 doesn't care for the HM, so him and DH walked around and went in a few shops in Liberty Square while DS10 and I took a ride on HM.

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%203/68248a46.jpg

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l531/Disneyfamilyfour/Disney%20Aug-Sept%202011%20Part%203/917c90a3.jpg

DS10 just loves that ride. And there are no surprises when riding it with him. He narrates the whole way through and tells you what is coming up next!:rotfl:

After that we found DH & DS12 and we all decided we had enough for the day and were going to shop our way down main street and then head back to CBR for a bit.

But, not before stopping at Casey's Corner for some of those famous mini corndogs!! The kids just love them. And even though we were all still very full from our late breakfast we had to stop and get some for them because Casey's was closing for a renovation in a few days and we wouldn't be back to MK before then.
