It seems like our hearts WERE in our dreams as they all came true this summer!

Whose dream?

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/summer2010/IMG_6606.jpg

Ours, there is my DB Tom,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0627.jpg

who is as much of a Disney lover as I, Karin,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0646.jpg

but not as much of a planner. We both love to travel and have always spent our vacations travelling as long as we can remember.
We both live an Austria and travelling to Florida requires a lot of planning and searching the internet for deals and discounts. Well, that is MY job!

Last summer we were not sure if we could manage another trip like the ones we had taken the previous years, but we decided that IF we went value, we would be able to at least manage to do two cruises on the Disney DREAM and spend about two weeks at WDW.
During that last year we were able to change our value resorts to Old Key West and our two cruises became three in the end!
So our dream came true, we went to WDW for 17 nights and spent another 11 nights on the Disney DREAM.
We met a lot of our DISfriends,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/stefy/jeffshug.jpg

received some very thoughtful and generous gifts

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/stefy/IMG_1084.jpg

and found new friends from all over the world.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day13/DSC_0116.jpg

There was lots of time to explore both on dry land and at sea and for good measure we had a Hurricane thrown in as well.

When did all that happen, you ask?
From August 13 to September 11! We have just been home for a week and feel the urgent need to share our adventures with our DISfriends!

So, sit back, grab a relaxing drink and let’s take off on this adventure together!

It would be lovely if we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom at OKW (I could do laundry, etc.), but we'll be happy with our studio. I just can't wait to get there and see it for myself.

I can't wait to read all about it!!! I still can not get over how long of a trip you took. I think that we here in the US could stand to learn a thing or two from other countries... I get 0 vacation time and dh...well, after dd's surgery he lost all his and is down to 0 days (even though technically he worked the two weeks.:sad2:). We will still be going in December...but we will definitely have to budget around the loss of wages for taking the time off.

Welcome! :goodvibes
I am really truely happy to have you on board here as well! I guess you will get mentioned here a few times! ;)
I am still nursing my cold - especially now, that the weather here has turned cold too. It snowed in many parts of Austria yesterday, and I am SO not ready for it. :scared1:
Thankfully I didn't sign up for class teacher duties this year, so that gives me a little room to breath. And so far kids have been very good, but we are only in week two of our school year! ;)

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for me being first. :goodvibes

It would be lovely if we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom at OKW (I could do laundry, etc.), but we'll be happy with our studio. I just can't wait to get there and see it for myself.

Please take photos of the studio, Kathy. We have never stayed in one, but I am considering it, now that we will stay on points and we might get a longer stay with staying in the studio! :thumbsup2
I hope you'll love OKW as much as we do! For me, driving through the gates (in a car) and hearing the guard tell us "Welcome Home" make the vacation become really real! :lmao:
I just love that the resort doesn't feel like a hotel - all the individual units feel like this is a little village and you feel so much at home there. Can't actually wait to go back there! :goodvibes

Loving it! :thumbsup2

Welcome! :goodvibes
Hi Jennifer!
I really can't wait to start posting - we met so many wonderful people this summer and you were the first of them all! Tom and I LOVED meeting you and let me tell you one thing - we wore your shirts the day we went on the DREAM for the first time and sooooooooo many people commented on them - even the CMs loved them! Thank you again and again and again! :thumbsup2

I am subscribing. It sounds like an amazing trip!

Welcome! :goodvibes
It was one of the best trips to WDW we have ever taken. We stayed at our favourite resort, got to cruise on the DREAM three times and met the most wonderful DISfriends! It was a DREAM come true ...... :woohoo:

I can't wait to read all about it!!! I still can not get over how long of a trip you took. I think that we here in the US could stand to learn a thing or two from other countries... I get 0 vacation time and dh...well, after dd's surgery he lost all his and is down to 0 days (even though technically he worked the two weeks.:sad2:). We will still be going in December...but we will definitely have to budget around the loss of wages for taking the time off.

Welcome! :goodvibes
It's so good to know that you will be on board as well.
I know, not everyone is able to take a vacation as long as ours, and we are both very thankful we have so much paid vacation time. Tom gets 6 weeks a year since he has been 25 years with the company. Teachers have 9 weeks during the summer and then there are a lot of times off during the year. So I count myself VERY lucky to have chosen this as my profession. :goodvibes

I still have not gotten over the fact that your DH still had to use his vacation time during Zoe's surgery, even though he was working - so not fair.
And I cannot believe you don't get ANY vacation time! :scared1:
But at least you will get to go to WDW and little Zoe darling is doing better! She is such a cutie!

Can't wait to hear all about it!

Welcome! :goodvibes
Hi Abby, I really love that you join us here! :woohoo:
I promise to add a lot of yummy food pics! Just for you! :lmao:

I'm here and looking forward to every word!!

Okay, lets get this show on the road .........

Day 1, August 13

Let the memories begin - Part 1

Finally, the big day was here! I had spent the night at Tom’s house, so I didn’t have to drive there in the morning. We got up around 7am, missing our little princess, Pixie, who had moved into a “cat-hotel” the day before and got ready. Around 8 we had a leisurely breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen and went upstairs to do some last minute things around the house, when Tom’s phone rang. His friend, who had organized the taxi to pick us up, told us, that the taxi was already waiting. Darn, it was 20 minutes early, so we hurried to check everything, lock up the house, load the luggage into the taxi and off we went. It takes about 25 minutes to get to the airport and we arrived there with plenty of time to spare. Once we had hauled our luggage inside the tiny airport we were stunned at how full the check-in area was. Luckily we realized that most of these people were in line for a charter flight and since we had done online check-in, all we had to do was drop off our luggage. Then we breezed through security and spent some time browsing the duty free shop. Since there was not much to see or do we took a biological break and then settled at the gate.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0562.jpg

Our flight was on time

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0565.jpg

and in no time we were at cruising altitude

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0568.jpg

and were handed a

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0563.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0567.jpg

Corny Bar, a Granola type bar, which was banana chocolate flavour. Then we were offered some drinks and we both had Coke to go with it. The flight to Frankfurt takes only 55 minutes and before we knew it we were descending into Frankfurt airport.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0570.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0571.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0572.jpg

The plane parked at an outside position, so we had to transfer to a bus before we finally got to the terminal building. Frankfurt airport is huge and the unfortunate thing is that we always have to get from one end of the airport to the other, and in doing so we have to actually leave the airport and go through security once again. We had cleared the passport control, all our hand luggage had been expected, only Tom’s camera needed to be “wiped”. :confused3 So he had to follow one of the security people and they had a good look at the camera, wiped it for explosives and then he joined me again to go through another security check to ensure our immigration in the USA. When we had finally gotten all that behind us we picked up a bottle of my favourite perfume and a bottle of Tom’s and then headed upstairs to our gate. There was still a little time to have a look around the stores and Tom picked up a book that had peeked his interest. And after long last we were allowed to board.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0575.jpg

Once we had stowed our luggage and settled into our seats we were ready to leave good old Europe behind us and head for the “new world”. It didn’t take long and we were rolling out onto the runway

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0574.jpg

and took off. Once we had reached cruising altitude we were handed

little snack bags filled with crackers and pretzels and were served some drinks. I had a glass of Coke and Tom had a can of German beer.

Hi Karin! Your travel days must be so exhausting. How long are you actually traveling, including airport time? The time change must be very hard too. (We have pretty difficult travel days as well because we live in a very small town with limited air access and end up having to fly to a city, spend the night, and then fly to Orlando the next day. Only a 3-hour time change though.)

Travel days tend to be long and tiring, and then you have to take into consideration that we have a 6 hour time change as well. Takes a while to get ajusted to it.
Travel time from leaving our house to arriving at OKW last summer were 18 hours, very long hours! ;)
And do I ever know about the limited air access. Our airport is very small too and we need to take a stopover in Frankfurt, where we have to run from one end of the airport to the other ....... NO fun! :sad2:

Day 1, August 13

Let the memories begin - Part 2

I had a glass of Coke and Tom had a can of German beer. About an hour later they started serving lunch.
There is a running gag between Tom and me, what lunch will be. Will it be chicken or pasta?
So we sat and waited and burst into laughter when the flight attendant asked the people to our right if they wanted chicken or pasta. And then we were handed our trays.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0579.jpg

There was a

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0580.jpg

vegetable mousse triangle served with tomato sauce as the starter, Tom had

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0583.jpg

the chicken with potatoes and pepper medley, while I had

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0586.jpg

the Garganelli Arabiata, which were both pretty good. For dessert we had

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0581.jpg

chocolate mousse cake in a red fruit coulis and there was no way we would let the crisp rolls go to waste, so we had them with a little bit of unsalted butter and a piece of very young Camembert. When we had finished our lunch we were about 2 hours into our flight and it was time to help the time pass faster, so we both took some sleeping aid, put on our headphones and hoped that the on board movies would help us to go to sleep. And after some time we really dozed off.
I woke up every now and then, grabbed a glass of water from the tray the flight attendants offered and went back to sleep. Around 2 ½ hours before we were supposed to land I could not sleep any more and watched a little more of the on board entertainment before we were all handed hot towels and dinner was served.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0587-1.jpg

This time there was no choice and we were both handed a tray with a plate full of

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0593-1.jpg

spinach tortellini filled with ricotta and served with a light cheese sauce and some chunky tomato sauce. For dessert we were offered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0589.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0590.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0595.jpg

some rice-cream, one apple and one vanilla, but we both don’t really like the consistency and just ate a few spoonfuls of it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0588.jpg

The roll was cold and crumbly so I just had a few bits of it. Once we had finished dinner we were getting close to Orlando

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0596.jpg

and we both got pretty excited when we saw the NASA assembly building from up above.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0599.jpg

About 40 minutes later we landed in Orlando. Luckily we got off the plane fast and quickly walked towards immigration.
When we arrived there we were shocked that the large hall was virtually empty and we could just walk through the lines, then were pointed towards an officer and in no time we were picking up our luggage and went through customs. :woohoo: There was just one more hurdle on our way to Walt Disney World, picking up our rental car.
Once we had hauled our luggage downstairs we saw that there were a lot of people in line for Dollar and Alamo, but yippie, only 3 people ahead of us at the Hertz counter.

As for the long travel time, all I can say is ........... "the things we do for Mickey!" :rotfl2:

The meals on the plane were actually pretty good. And even if it doesn't look like it, there is enough food to get you through the flight! :thumbsup2

I could not believe my eyes when I looked to my left and saw the assembly building! I just HAD TO take a photo.
The meals were pretty good, apart from the rice cream, which I do not like in the first place, nothing to do with the product. :lmao:

Day 1, August 13

Let the memories begin - Part 3

Once we had hauled our luggage downstairs we saw that there were a lot of people in line for Dollar and Alamo, but yippie, only 3 people ahead of us at the Hertz counter.
Again, we got in line and within a few minutes we were talking to an agent who assigned us a car and sent us off to find it in the garage opposite the airport.
While we were still trying to figure out where to look for our rental car a Hertz employee approached us and told us that we were already standing in front of our car – a Mustang Convertible, just what Tom had hoped for. :woohoo: We loaded some of our stuff in the trunk and the rest went onto the back seat. About an hour after we had landed we were heading off the airport and towards Walt Disney World. :goodvibes
It didn’t take long and we could see that all too well known sign that meant we had reached our vacation destination.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0600.jpg

We went straight to Old Key West to check in and even though there were several Cast Members helping other guests, one of the Concierges came over to help us check in.
Since we had done online check in, everything was prepared and we were handed our keys and told that they had honoured our request and put us on the second floor of a two storey building.
We walked back to the car, drove to Old Turtle Pond Road and found our first vacation home. After checking it out we carried our luggage upstairs and then headed back to the car to pick up some dinner. Our first stop was Publix to stock up on the “bare” essentials.
Some bread, salads, tortilla chips and salsa, some extra dressing and some drinks, Coke for me and a few different beers for Tom. Once we had everything in the car we drove over to Downtown Disney.
Somehow we had misplaced Tom’s annual pass, so we went straight to Guest Relations to have it replaced. We were both so surprised at how easy it was to have a new one issued. All it took for them was my AP to get his number, as they were purchased at the same time and a photo ID. Once Tom had his new AP in hand we bought a new Tables in Wonderland card, said our happy goodbyes and off we went to Wolfgang Puck’s Express.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0601.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0604-1.jpg

There we ordered a Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich with Basil pesto, romaine, plum tomatoes and chips

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day01/IMG_0603-1.jpg

and a Warm Turkey Melt Sandwich with Cheddar, caramelized onions and honey mustard dressing for take-away. Dinner in hand we decided that we needed a sweet treat as well, since our first day had started so perfectly. Off we went to Krispy Kreme and low and behold the “Hot Now” sign was on and we picked up

half a dozen glazed doughnuts and

a dozen doughnut holes, ordered a Diet Coke and had our first doughnut right there and then. Around 10pm we arrived back at our villa, laid the table and enjoyed our dinner. We unpacked the carryon cases, then settled on the couch in front of the TV for a while until we were too tired and went to bed.

Day 2, August 14

A DISmeet kicks off the trip - Part 1

We were up early. It was 5.35 when we got up because our inner clocks were still running on European time.
We watched a little TV in the morning, then got ready to head for breakfast. We had an 8am reservation at Olivia’s Café and were more than in time for it. We signed in and were the only guests at that time,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0609-1.jpg

so therefore the server took us for a fun little walk around the restaurant, pointing out several of “his favourite” tables, before “parking” us in one of the booths. :rotfl2:
We were both handed a menu and told that our server would be right with us. And she was. Before we even had time to study the menus our server came by to take our drinks orders, coffee, tea and orangejuice and soon came by with a huge box of different teas for me to pick from.
Once we had been served the drinks we were ready to order and shortly after our orders had been placed our starter arrived,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0610.jpg

the Fresh Strawberries and Cream. It is our new way to start off the first full day at WDW. While we still enjoyed the fresh fruit a few more guests arrived and we watched the CMs having fun seating them after leading them all around the restaurant.
A short time later our breakfast arrived. Tom had ordered the

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0615.jpg

Conch Republic Omelet, with shrimp, avocado, and Pepper Jack Cheese. I had known what I wanted to have long before we had left Austria,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0616.jpg

the Traditional Eggs Benedict, two Poached Eggs with Canadian Bacon on an English Muffin with Key Lime Hollandaise.
We both were in heaven with our breakfast and enjoyed it very much. Once we had finished it, we settled our bill using our new Tables in Wonderland card and went back to the villa.
We saw that mousekeeping was just starting their rounds so we decided to go shopping and give them time to clean up the villa. Our first stop was Downtown Disney.

Olivia's IS a hidden gem! The food is really good and the setting reminds me so much of the "real" Key West.
Their breakfast potatoes are cubed potatoes (might be blanched beforehand) cooked in a white sauce which tastes of cream and onions. Sooooooo good!

Day 2, August 14

A DISmeet kicks off the trip - Part 2

Our first stop was Downtown Disney. We were a little too early for the World of Disney to open,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0623.jpg

so we walked along the lake and admired the many “sculptures” they had created from Lego bricks.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0628.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0629.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0627.jpg

We were not the only ones taking photos, there were quite a few people doing the exact same thing. Once the store had opened we ventured inside and were surprised at how much Lego has advanced since we had been kids. And then it was time to stroll over to the World of Disney.
There were so many new things to see and we took our time and enjoyed browsing very much. Once we had seen all there was to see at the World of Disney we wandered through the other shops, explored the new spices at the Kitchen store and spent some time at the Art shop. Once we had seen it all we walked along the path that runs behind all the shops along the parking lot back to the World of Disney. We had sworn not to overdo the shopping before the cruise, but there was something I was determined to buy, no matter when I would find it, the new 2012 calendar. In 2010 we had seen the calendar in the stores, but put off buying them until the end of our vacation and they had run out of them, so we had ended up ordering them on the internet.
So, after our first shopping spree we headed back to the car to do a little more grocery shopping.
We drove over to Publix and took our time, strolling all the isles, picking up lots of items we could enjoy the first eight days before the cruises. It was almost noon when we returned to our villa,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0639.jpg

parked the car, tried to pick up all the bags we had and headed upstairs. Tom opened the door, a look to the left into the master bedroom,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/DSC_0233.jpg

yippie, mousekeeping had already cleaned our room and everything was clean and neat

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/DSC_0225.jpg

and a few more steps and we were in the living room

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/DSC_0223-1.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/DSC_0222.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/DSC_0221-1.jpg

and there was a huge surprise on the kitchen block.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0643-1.jpg

A wonderful basket full of yummy treats. We put down our bags and went to look for the card, even though I was quite sure who had sent us this wonderful surprise. And yes, I was right, it was from our friends Mary Ellen and Joe! After all that shopping and discovering the surprise we needed a little rest, so we went outside onto the veranda and sat there for a while, drink in hand.

Day 2, August 14

A DISmeet kicks off the trip - Part 3

After all that shopping and discovering the surprise we needed a little rest, so we went outside onto the veranda and sat there for a while, drink in hand.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0646.jpg

Needless to say that we needed to take a few more photos of the view as well.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0644.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0648.jpg

After some time we decided that we better got going if we wanted to have lunch before our first DISmeet.
Where better to have lunch than Wolfgang Puck’s Express again. When we arrived we were stunned at how full the restaurant was 2pm. We placed our order, picked up our number and went to find a table. While we waited for the entrees to come out, we sipped our Diet Cokes and talked about what we expected our first DISmeet to be like. And then our first Free Disney Dining Plan lunch arrived. Tom had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0658.jpg

the Barbequed Chicken Pizza with red onion, plum tomatoes and fresh cilantro and I had opted for my all time favourite,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0655.jpg

the Four Cheese Pesto Pizza, Parmesan, mozzarella, fontina, goat cheese, plum tomatoes, fresh basil and sun-dried tomatoes. Yum!! We took our time to enjoy the heavenly pizzas before it was time to conquer desserts,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0660.jpg

the Crème Brulee, which we both had ordered. When we had finished lunch it was about time to drive to the All Star Movies resort for our DISmeet.
But before that we quickly headed back to Old Key West to pick up our gift bag for Jennifer who we were going to meet.

We arrived at the All Star Movies Resort shortly before we were supposed to meet and had a peek into the shop, then stepped outside to walk to the lobby where we wanted to meet.
But we didn’t even have to go to the lobby, right when we left the shop, there Jennifer was, entering through the opposite door. We hugged, exchanged presents and started having fun together.
First off, we took a little walk around the resort to see her room. She stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and boy was it a nice room. Definitely puts the All Start resorts back on the map!
Once we had had a good look we went back to the car and drove over to Old Key West, so she could have a look at our villa.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/DSC_0236.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day02/IMG_0662.jpg

We showed her round, then settled in the living room to chat. It was so fun to finally get to know the “real” Jennifer, whose trip reports I had read long before I first dreamed of meeting her.
We learned more about her life, being a dairy farmer’s wife and beautiful little Claire, who I would have loved to meet too. All too soon after a little wine and lots of laughs it was time for Jennifer to leave again. We all squeezed into our Mustang Convertible again and we took her over to Downtown Disney, said our goodbyes and were sad the meet had been over so quickly.

Tom and I went back to Old Key West to relax a little before our late dinner at The Wave and Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom.
And this was when the time change caught up with us. We both put our feet up on the sofas and soon were so tired that we didn’t see ourselves driving to the Contemporary for dinner. Instead we took a romaine salad out of the fridge and prepared a Caesar Salad, used some of the grocery items we had bought and had a picnic in the villa.
Well, wasn’t the best idea either, as eating made us even more tired and after a while we decided that we would just skip the Extra Magic Hours and stay put where we were. We were really lazy, watched a little TV and finally went to bed around 11pm, right when Extra Magic Hours were about to start.

To be continued ..........

It's Disney's fault we fell in love with OKW. :lmao: In 2006 the only AP discount they would give was for Villa and Deluxe resorts, so we stayed at the Yacht club and then booked a studio at OKW. Got upgraded to a 1 bedroom villa for 9 nights! :cloud9: Needless to say we paid back to Disney as we have never stayed in a studio again! :rotfl2: We always pay for the 1 bedroom! :lmao:

Actually I was very sceptical myself before meeting my first internet friend, which actually turned out to become my/our bestest friend(s) Mary Ellen and Joe. We had been writing back and forth for quite some time, but meeting face to face was something else, but we hit it off right away and had the most fun together - really hope we can spend some more time together next summer. They had a good reason not to come this year, they became grandparents for the second time. Brittany is a beautiful little princess!
Okay, got carried away, but as I said - I wasn't too sure about the internet meets and now I am ALL for them! DISNEY people are the best! :thumbsup2

I didn't tell my DH until we were on the ME about the Dismeet. He hates stuff like that, but when we met up he was in no hurry to leave. He had a very enjoyable time. If we get the chance we will do a meet again.:thumbsup2

I am glad he had a fun time, we sure had!

Day 3, August 15

Adventures in the Animal Kingdom and a leisurely dinner at the neighbours - Part 1

Since we had gone to bed early the night before we were up early again. So we decided to do something we had never managed on any of our earlier trips, head for Morning Extra Hours. :thumbsup2

Tom made some coffee and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0667.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0666.jpg

we had some sandwiches which we prepared from things out of the fridge and when we were done and had put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher we headed out to the Animal Kingdom.
Cars were just trickling in and when it was our turn to park our car we were motioned to start another row – thanks, but NO thanks. :scared1:

We drove past the parking assistant, drove to the exit, went through the entrance again and joined the line for parking again. This time we were assigned a parking spot in the lower third of the row – okay, I don’t mind walking that far.
A half empty tram just pulled out when we approached the loading area and a new one was no where to be seen, so we decided to just walk to the entrance. Getting through bag check was easy and so was getting through the turnstiles.
Right after we got in we were asked if we would agree to do an internet survey – yip, we would do that, they took an email address and off we went.

It was just 10 minutes into Morning Extra Magic Hours and there already seemed to be quite a few people, we didn’t mind and took our time up the path to the Tree of Life.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/DSC_0242.jpg

There we decided where to go – Safari or Expedition, and the Safari won. So we headed towards Africa,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/DSC_0243.jpg

picked up a Fastpass and since there was only a 5 minute wait we got in line right away.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0669.jpg

Five minutes later we found ourselves on the back of a Safari truck and off we went. There were lots of animal along the Safari route this morning and Tom got a lot of good photos.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/DSC_0352.jpg

20 minutes later we got off and had a little time to spare until we could ride again.
What better way to use the time than walk over to Expedition Everest and pick up a Fastpass for that ride. But before that, something I really wanted, caught my eye. A cart selling

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0671.jpg

Mickey Bars – the perfect snack. So we walked over, I used a snack credit and the sweet Cast member told me to have a look and a feel of the ice-cream, as sometimes they melt too easily in those carts. I did as I was told and deemed the Mickey Bar perfect. We walked over to the self service restaurant opposite Tusker House, there were lots of unoccupied tables and one of them was now occupied by us.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/DSC_0353.jpg

I tried to eat my ice-cream as quickly as I could,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0670.jpg

but it was so hot, I really had a hard time finishing it, before it had all melted. Then we were on our way over to Everest, picked up a Fastpass and went straight back to the Safari.

To be continued ..........

We really had a lovely first day! ...... and it stayed that way! :thumbsup2

:lmao:

And I am the lucky one who gets the king bed! I do offer to use the pullout bed every time, but Tom claims that he likes to be "closer" to the TV and very comfortable! (and yes, there is one in the bedroom as well :rotfl:). He has the Jaccuzzi to himself though! :thumbsup2

Thanks for checking in! Day 3 coming up shortly. :goodvibes

Sounds like Disney had a plan when they upgraded you!! They knew you wouldn't be able to resist a 1 BR in the future! I have seen other 1 BR's in pics but OKW just looks so spacious.

Lucky duck getting the king bed!! Nice of you to offer sleeping on the pullout :)

I am glad you like my report. We always stay a month, as it makes more sense as the flight is really expensive during the summer months.
And we do not mind having a lot of time at Disney! ;)

They definitely had a plan ...... :rotfl: They upgraded us a few times, mostly to a water view and now I NEED TO pay for that view every time we stay at a certain resort. :rotfl2:
And the upgrade at OKW was awesome. I never thought I would ever be able to afford it, then the thought of staying at a studio and the upgrade to a 1 br! Now we bought into DVC ....... lots more villa resorts to explore!

Great start Karin. :thumbsup2 I love your pictures.

This was just the first of many DISmeets - we met so many wonderful people this trip - it was unreal!

That is so amazing! I think Disney brings people together. My daughter and I made our first WDW trip last year, and we met up with a woman (and her family) with whom I had been friends for YEARS on-line on a mom-to-be/mom message board. It was amazing - not like meeting someone for the first time at all. And I have a surprise DLR trip planned for my daughter's 5th birthday in 2012 and plans to meet up with another mom from that same board. Really excited about that too! So I totally get how amazing these DIS meets are! ;)

Adventures in the Animal Kingdom and a leisurely dinner at the neighbours - Part 2

Then we were on our way over to Everest, picked up a Fastpass and went straight back to the Safari.
This time the standby wait time had increased a lot and we were happy to be in the Fastpass line. We were assigned another perfect spot on the Safari truck and again, Tom was able to take a lot of photos.

Once we were off the ride it was time to head over to Everest to join the Expedition via Fastpass. We took a short bodily break and after that we spent another snack credit on a Diet Coke to share. Refreshed we walked all the way over to Everest and saw them stall the standby line as there were an aweful lot of people in line. We were welcomed to the Fastpass line

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0672.jpg

and within 3 minutes were up to the Cast member who assigns the rows. We asked if we could wait for front row and had to step aside, but we got front row on the next train out.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/DSC_0450.jpg

But before that we spent ample time in some of the shops and it was quarter to 11 when we went through the turnstiles again. We were both hungry and thought about where to have some lunch.
Since we were so close to the Animal Kingdom, why not try the Mara. We waited for the tram to the car and rode to the parking lot, got in our car, drove over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge and parked the car. Once inside the lodge we spent a little time browsing the shop and taking in the lobby, then we walked down to the table service restaurant area and checked the menu for Jiko, where we had a reservation lateron in the trip.

Day 3, August 15

Adventures in the Animal Kingdom and a leisurely dinner at the neighbours - Part 3

Once inside the lodge we spent a little time browsing the shop and taking in the lobby, then we walked down to the table service restaurant area and checked the menu for Jiko, where we had a reservation lateron in the trip. Around 11.30 we walked into the Mara. We took a good look at the menu, got in line and ordered with a Cast member who was at the very start of the line. She handed us a beeper and we then proceeded towards the self service area to pick up desserts.
We were at the check out getting ready to use some of our counter service credits when the beeper went off and Tom went back to pick up the food. Tom had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0687.jpg

the African Stew, which was served in a breadbowl and tasted much better than it looked and I had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0686.jpg

the Chicken Flatbread - with corn, mozzarella and zough drizzle. We shared both and both were really nice. Before we started on dessert Tom went back and picked up some more Diet Coke. Tom enjoyed his

fruitbowl while I enjoyed

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0692.jpg

the Carrot Cake I had ordered. Once we had finished our lunch we walked back into the Animal Kingdom Lodge and headed for the store. Long hair and a convertible just don’t go together all that well, and I had seen a hat I liked and that suited me, so we went to buy it.
Then it was time to walk back to the car. We got in, opened the top and off we went. It was hot and we did not feel like going to a park so we decided to do a little shopping.
We went to Kissimmee and strolled through several of the tourist trap shops, not buying anything, but browsing and exploring. At around 3pm the clouds started to roll in, so we drove back to Old Key West.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/DSC_0453.jpg

We made it into our villa just in time for the heavens to open up. Since the early morning started to catch up with us we parked ourselves on the couch and watched a little TV, enjoying a few snacks out of the fridge.
We had a reservation at Jiko that night, but neither of us really felt like eating there, so we cancelled the reservation and had a look at what else was available close by. We were happy to find that Boatwrights had availability and made a reservation for later that night and decided to rest a little bit more before our ADR. ;)

:hug: Can't wait to hug you, either! The one bonus about planning for a trip in February is that there are so many things to look forward to in the meantime: Halloween, American Thanksgiving, and then Christmas! :woohoo: Once January 1 rolls around, we'll be in Florida again before we know it!

Moving on... can't believe that you're relaxed enough on EE to sit there and take such beautiful pictures. Even though I know what's going to happen, it would still scare me. Mara looks yummy! When I had been thinking about staying there, I thought their menu looked great.

Curious why you skipped Jiko...not that we didn't cancel most of our pre-planned ADRs when we were there in July. :rotfl: Did you discover Disney's new mobile ADR app? Don't know what you have for a phone, but they have one now and I spent a lot of time playing around with it when we were there. Nothing like being able to make and cancel an ADR on your smartphone! :rotfl:

What a great start to your trip! It feels so nice and leisurely.

That DISmeet with Jenseib sounded so nice! I just love meeting DIS friends in real life and hearing more about them. I think the DIS is one of those rare internet forums where you REALLY get to know the people behind the posts because of how detailed our TRs get. I don't feel like any of you are strangers and would meet you all in person if I could!

A Lego store opened up in Toronto recently and I've already joined as a VIP member. Now I'm even more excited about visiting the new store in DtD!

Oooh, African stew. I've never been to Mara but it sounds like it works a little differently than a regular QS place?

but it was so hot, I really had a hard time finishing it, before it had all melted. Then we were on our way over to Everest, picked up a Fastpass and went straight back to the Safari.

To be continued ..........

Your Mickey Bar reminds me of my first experience with them. While I was eating mine, my hat had fallen upside down on the ground, and my 8 yr old nephew was eating his while standing over my hat - about half of his chocolate landed in my hat. Needless to say, that hat went bye bye and I "had" to buy a new one! :rotfl2:

I'm so glad you had a better experience at Mara than we did! Maybe we ordered the wrong thing! Enjoying your report, can't wait for more!

We really enjoyed our lunch there! I had been quite looking forward to the stew and flatbread!
Finally able to catch up with responses and hopefully update! :goodvibes

:rotfl:

Time will just fly by, Tina and we will be there again. We are down to 120 days today ....... so once we get to double digits I will feel like it is around the corner!

I just love to ride coasters hands free, and EE is relaxing enough to take those photos. Thankfully and broad daylight my camera takes quite nice pics even while in motion! :thumbsup2

We love the menu at the Mara - it's a bit different to the rest of the CS places!
We just didn't feel like Jiko that night, not that we did not fit it in another day! :rotfl2:
As for the app - Tom is using a lot them here in Austria where we do not pay for the internet - but in the US it would mean roaming, so we hope that the free WiFi at Disney will continue, esp. at the parks too! :goodvibes

I apologize for not responding earlier, but first I was very busy and then the DIS did not want to cooperate and after eating two of my posts, I eventually gave up. So let's try this again! :goodvibes

Enjoying reading your TR. Great pics! Can not wait to hear all about your meal at Jiko.

I am glad you enjoy the TR. Unfortunately we cancelled our dinner at Jiko that day, but we returned a few days later! :thumbsup2

That's the blessing of staying for such a long time and going so often. We don't have the need to do ALL the rides over and over again and we do not need to spend every day, all day at the parks. For us the US as a country is something "new" too and we just love to experience and explore.

Meeting Jen was so much fun! I really enjoy our DISmeets and putting faces to screen names! And since you have had so much written contact it really is so easy to connect! :goodvibes

Congrats of being a VIP member at the Lego store! Do they have as many Lego sculptures in Toronto as they have at DTD? They are just great!

It was the first time we had to place our order with a CM at the Mara, so I don't know if it was a thing that stays or just a trial. But it was very convenient though!

Great updates, Karin. The photos from AKL are terrific.

Thanks, Kathy!
Tom has the MUCH better camera and his photos usually come out great. I am using a point and shoot and taking pics during the Safari is NOT easy. :lmao:

Yes Ma'am! I reported there too! Thanks for the heads up!:goodvibes

I am so happy to have you there too, Tammie! Planning is so much more fun if you have all your friends help out with wonderful ideas! :goodvibes

What a wonderful morning at AK! 2 trips on the Safari, a Mickey bar and a spin on EE, then leave when it gets too hot and crowded.

The pictures on top of EE are great. Very clear pictures!

Since we stay for an extended period of time and go to WDW on a very regular basis, we just don't "feel" the need to spend whole days at the parks during the summer time, so we usually "flee" once the crowds get to heavy.
And then with staying at OKW, we really enjoy being there, it is such a wonderful resort and we just LOVE the relaxing time "at home". ;)

Thanks for the compliment on my EE photos. We love riding front row and not having to hold on helps too! :lmao:

Your Mickey Bar reminds me of my first experience with them. While I was eating mine, my hat had fallen upside down on the ground, and my 8 yr old nephew was eating his while standing over my hat - about half of his chocolate landed in my hat. Needless to say, that hat went bye bye and I "had" to buy a new one! :rotfl2:

Fun story about your first Mickey bar experience! :lmao: And having to buy a new hat ...... :thumbsup2
Tom always urges me to have one during the day, but it's just such a shame to waste half of it because I am such a slow eater. It's different during our February trips, when it is not so hot, but usually I don't feel that much like ice-cream then. :rotfl2:

Okay, I'm all caught up here. I love how your trip started out! Corny Snacks, Convertible Mustang, beautiful resort and yummy food!

Day 3, August 15

Adventures in the Animal Kingdom and a leisurely dinner at the neighbours - Part 4

We were happy to find that Boatwrights had availability and made a reservation for later that night and decided to rest a little bit more before our ADR. ;)

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0695.jpg

About 40 minutes prior to our reservation we drove over to Port Orleans Riverside,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0696.jpg

parked the car and walked over to the resort. We spent quite some time exploring the shop and taking in the lobby. Riverside is not a new resort for us, but it has been years since we last stayed there and it was nice to refresh our memories.
We still were 10 minutes early when we signed in at Boatwrights. They told us to wait a few minutes until our table would be ready which seemed funny as the restaurant was half empty.
But it only took a minute or two until we were called and led inside the restaurant, where we were seated at a four top. We were left with the menus,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0697.jpg

which we had just started to study when our server arrived. He made a few recommendations on the menu, then left us to fetch our drinks and to decide what we wanted to eat. It didn’t take very long until he returned with our Diet Cokes

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0698.jpg

and a basket full of cornbread and butter. We placed our order and started on the cornbread, which was still warm and sweet and wonderful.
It didn’t take long for our main courses to be delivered. Tom had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0705.jpg

the Grilled Pork Chop with Amber Ale Barbecue Sauce, Cheesy Grits, and Onion Rings and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0701.jpg

the Grilled Tenderloin Medallions, served with mac and cheese, Crayfish beignet and red wine Demi-glace had peeked my interest. While we were still taking photos of our food the waiter came back offering to take our picture so we could finally get a taste of the food.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0700.jpg

We really enjoyed our food and even though we were full after them we had to order dessert. Tom tried

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0710.jpg

a traditional Southern favourite, the Pecan Pie, which was served a la mode. I have a soft spot for breadpudding, so when I read on the menu that it was a dessert option, my mind was made up. I ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0707.jpg

the New Orleans Bread Pudding, with rum raisin ice cream and fosters sauce, which was very nice.
Unfortunately neither of us was able to finish dessert, the portions were just too big. :sad2:
We finally settled the bill using our Disney Dining Plan Credits and “rolled” towards the exit. It was just a short walk to the car and then we were off, back home to our resort, which was just down the road. :goodvibes
We parked the car and headed upstairs to our villa, plopped down on the couch and rested for a while until we realized that the message button on the phone was blinking. So we listened to the message which told us that we had two packages waiting at the front desk.
Tom picked up the car keys again and off we went to the front desk. Since there were no other people checking in, a cast member was at hand right away to help us. And while he went back to the store room to pick up our packages, we came across the sweet cast member, who had checked us in.
She was just finishing her shift and she told us that we looked familiar to her, so we told her that she had checked us in two days earlier. She was very chatty and we had some fun until the other cast member came back. He handed us the packages,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0713.jpg

never asked for an ID, we finished our conversation and went back to the car to drive back to our villa.
Once back at the villa we opened the packages. They were from another wonderful DISboards member.
And inside the packages there were two spray bottles of Neutrogena sunblock!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0715.jpg

I couldn’t get over the fact how thoughtful my DISfriends were. In one of my posts I had stated that I easily burn in the Florida sun, and here was someone who read my posts and had sent us sunblock to use at Castaway Cay! :goodvibes
Thank you again, Ellen, for your thoughtful gift. Once we had gotten over the surprise, we settled in front of the TV instead of going to Extra Magic Hours at the Hollywood Studios. After such a wonderful meal we just couldn’t be bothered to “mix and mingle” with the masses at the Studios. Around 11.30 we called it a day and finally went to bed.

To be continued ..........

LOVE the photo of Tom in the car - the palm trees in the background make it perfect! Also, another great photo of the two of you - you both always take such nice photos! I avoid the camera as much as possible; do not want to scare small children...or DISers.:lmao:

Boatwrights is such a popular place and your dinner looks yummy! We ate there just once several years ago, but did not have a great experience. I'm never over near POR anymore, but should probably give it another try. It generally has great reviews. :)

Even though I don't visit WDW as often these days, we were blessed to go very often for 30 years, so like you and Tom, while I love the parks, do not need to do the attractions over and over again. What I enjoy most is strolling through a park with friends and doing whatever - attractions, dining, shopping is all fun with friends. Disney is enchanting - sharing it with friends just makes it more so.:goodvibes

I could not believe it, when we opened that parcel - such a wonderful and thoughtful gesture! And it came in VERY handy at CC! :thumbsup2

We have always loved Boatwright's, especially when they still served breakfast, but dinner was always a hit with us too! It's a shame it got such harsh reviews a while back. You should definitely go back!

Hope you enjoyed todays installments - more to come, but my headmistress informed me this afternoon that I have to fill in for a sick teacher tomorrow for 5 hours - no fun, and I needed to do some work to keep my pupils occupied! :rotfl2:

We really enjoyed driving the Mustang. It's one of Tom's favourite cars and he was lucky he got exactly what he wanted both times! :thumbsup2
As for the moderates - we LOVE POR and always make a request for the mansion houses (in February we are going to stay in a Royal Room with a river view!) I just love that "gone with the wind" feel of POR. The gardens are beautiful and the food isn't bad either! ;)
We stayed at CBR too, in a Pirate room. Loved it too, but the resort is huge and we were glad we had our car to get around.
CSR has beautiful grounds as you know, but the lack of service last time just turned us off.
The only resort that doesn't appeal to us at all is POFQ - don't know why, but it doesn't draw us in.
If it were me, I would go with POR.

Day 4, August 16

Guest of honour - Part 1

We slept in a little that day and only got up around 8am.
We then got ready and were out the door shortly before 9am. Since we didn’t want to have breakfast in the room again, we went to our other favourite breakfast place, Wolfgang Puck’s Express. Even though we had arrived shortly after they had opened, the restaurant was already bustling. We placed our order, picked up our marker and our drinks

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0717.jpg

and found a nice table.
It didn’t take long for a server to arrive and hand us some cutlery and shortly after that our breakfast had arrived. Tom had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0722.jpg

his favourite, Wolfgang's Breakfast Pocket, Scrambled eggs, peppers, Niman Ranch Bacon, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella and cheddar cheese baked into Wolfgang's pizza dough and served with breakfast potatoes, while I just had to have my favourite breakfast at Wolfgang’s,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0720.jpg

the Smoked Bacon Pizza, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, mozzarella and cheddar cheese and Ranch Dressing. We were in breakfast heaven. When we had finished our breakfast we spotted our favourite server, Maritza.
She is on her way up the ladder and is in training for another position, but when she saw us, she came over and we all hugged. We had brought her some Austrian candy for her little boy and she was stunned that we had thought about her, while away from Florida.
She told us her schedule and we vowed to come back when she was working. We then made our way back to the car to drive offsite and do a little shopping. Tom and I just love to browse through all those huge stores, so we went to Walmart and Target and spent a good part of the morning there.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0724.jpg

Once we were done shopping we decided to make a stop at our favourite Krispy Kreme store.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0726.jpg

We picked up a dozen hot doughnuts and a large Diet Coke to share and sat inside the store to enjoy a doughnut or two. Once we had filled our sweet tooth, we drove back to Old Key West and hauled all our new stuff up into the villa.
We had a little time left until we were to leave again for our Fantasmic Package, so we decided to just stay put for a while.
Tom made use of the Jacuzzi, while I checked my email and did an update on the DISboards. Soon it was time to head out again. It isn’t very far to the Studios and we arrived there in no time. This is by far the worst park to park at for us. We either start a new row or park at the far end of the tram stop. This day was no different. :rotfl2:
We parked more than halfway down the parking lot, the tram stopped a few rows away :scared1: and it was pretty hot. Bag check was easy and even getting through the turnstiles was done in no time. We checked the tip board on the way to the restaurant and picked up a Fastpass for Startours before heading for our Mama Melrose ADR.

Great edition, Karin! Breakfast looks yummy - love the coffee and cola! Mine would be the cola. :)

I always like the way you and Tom go to visit other stores - it makes it more than just parks, parks, parks. While I absolutely love the parks, because we went so often, I enjoy strolling through and doing attractions as we come upon each one without a line - if I don't do it that visit, will likely the next or even the next.

Next visit hoping I am with someone willing to do ones I have done in a while. :)

Looking forward to your evening at the Studios! :goodvibes

Thank you, Christine!

For us visiting stores and just explore is part of the experience. Since we do not live in the US, this is as much a vacation as visiting the parks!
We always grab a FP for the most popular rides and then look for rides that have shorter lines - no more "We have to do that" for us! ;)

I can tell you this much about the rest of the day ......... it definitely had its ups and downs! :rotfl2:

Hi, neighbour! Where in Germany are you?
I have been "silently" following your reports :lmao: but never posted ...... don't know why. :confused3
We are obsessed with DCL as well. In 2009 we cruised on the Wonder for the first time and before that I always said that it would be our once in a lifetime experience. By day two we were rebooked! :rotfl2: Did a b2b in 2010 and this summer we did the three cruises in a row. After this year's cruises we went home with another four bookings for 2012 and 2013!
Not much longer and I will get to cruising the DREAM, we took lots of photos while spending 11 nights on board, it was so much fun!

Hi Karin! Well, I do admit we live pretty far North in Germany, so maybe not all that neighbor-ish after all :thumbsup2.
How cool that you followed my reports, too! No problem about never posting on them, I admit I have been reading quite a few reports myself without ever coming out of lurkdom and commenting on them :confused3.

I can't wait to read about your time on the Dream! We have been pretty much focusing on the Magic so far (two prior cruises, a b2b next year, all on the Magic) but since we have now booked an Eastern Caribbean on the Fantasy for 2013, it's high time to get oriented on the "big ships" - only 2 years to go, that's not a lot of time for an obsessive planner such as myself! :rolleyes1

As long as you live in Germany I consider you a neighbour! :goodvibes

The DREAM is a beautiful ship. We have sailed on the WONDERful Disney WONDER 3 times and loved it and were stunned at how much bigger the DREAM was. But there is still the same wonderful Disney service on the bigger ships, so much to explore and see, 11 nights were not enough.
We are doing an Eastern Caribbean as well in 2013, but I think we'll cruise a little before you do ...... I am stuck with Austria's school holidays, so that leaves us with the height of summer.
........ and I DO understand the obsessive planning - same here too! :thumbsup2

We had our first fresh hot KKs last week. They were so good, just so light & fluffy! I've had KKs before, buut not hot ones fresh from the oven. This was during our trip through the Smoky Mountains. Also had our first visit to Bubba Gump's, wonderful shrimp. Thanks for your reviews, which are what sent us to those two places last week!:cool1:

Hi Elaine and Howie!
Sure I remember you! Remember, we "bumped" into each other at the MK as well. It was a wonderful vacation, we met so many really wonderful people on board. And it is even better that we keep in touch even afterwards! :goodvibes

I hope to be able to post more tonight or tomorrow - work is a bit crazy at the moment, but I have a long weekend until Thursday! ;)

Hi Karin...Yes I do remember that we "bumped" into you at MK. You were going to relax and we were just starting our day. We also love OKW. Howie likes it because the 1 bedroom is so big and he says it feels like home. We stayed at Kidani for the 1st time before the cruise and Scott & Rachel loved it there. I think that might be the new place for us to stay.

It definately is so nice to keep in touch afterwards. :) I spoke to Jeff a few times, he lives about 15 min from us so we will get together with them soon.

It's Disney's fault we love the 1 bedroom at OKW as well. In 2006 we were booked in a studio and were upgraded to a 1 BR and were HOOKED!!!!!!! :lmao:
AKL is beautiful too, isn't it? We got to tour the vacation club rooms during a DVC presentation this September and were really impressed.

We are in touch with Jeff too! They are such a wonderful and nice family and we were so lucky to have been able to spend so much time with them.

Guest of honour - Part 2

We checked the tip board on the way to the restaurant and picked up a Fastpass for Startours before heading for our Mama Melrose ADR. We arrived there about half an hour early for our ADR and the place was packed.
They told us that it would be at least a half hour wait, so we decided to venture over to the shop on the opposite side and have a look at the merchandise.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/DSC_0456.jpg

After we had seen every single piece of merchandise we headed over to the Christmas store

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0729.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/DSC_0461.jpg

and had a good long look before returning to the restaurant. It was still packed but since they sent away walk ups we were pretty sure since we had already waited nearly half an hour that we would be seated very soon.
When a seat became available about another 20 minutes later, we decided to sit down, since it had been quite a long time we had been waiting already. Every now and then they would take out a slip of paper and call a family, but we were still waiting.
After an hour and five minutes we were finally called and taken to our table. Maybe we should have taken it as a sign of things to come, but we were to spend quite some time in the restaurant. After that long wait we were seated at a 4 top and told that we would have the best server in the house.
Another five minutes later an older server came over, introduced himself, looked lost and left again without taken even the drinks order.
He came back a little while later and asked if we had decided on drinks and when we told him that we had decided on food as well he made it a statement that he would get us something to drink first. We both ordered a Diet Coke and waited. And waited. And waited some more until he returned with our drinks. And not only the drinks, but also

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0732.jpg

a basked full of fresh rolls and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0731.jpg

some olive oil with dried herbs in it. We were delighted to see that he was now in the mood to take our order and ordered our starters and main courses. The restaurant was full and continued to watch the hustle and bustle while nibbling on the bread.
It took quite a while for our starters to arrive but finally they made their way to our table. Tom had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0734.jpg

the Clams Oreganatta, oak-fired clams cooked in oregano butter with Italian sausage over toasted focaccia, while I had decided to try

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0736.jpg

the Mixed Greens - with dried cherry vinaigrette, candied walnuts, fresh pear and imported gorgonzola cheese. Since it had taken quite a while for our starters to be served we did not have enough time to finish our food, before our main courses arrived. And that is something I really do not like. But Tom was almost finished and I continued on finishing my salad before digging into the main courses,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0739.jpg

the Charred Strip Steak, Italian Roasted Potatoes and Cipollini Onions, aged Balsamic-Shallot Butter, and Chianti Wine Reduction for Tom and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0742.jpg

the Chicken Campanelle, wood-grilled chicken over Campanelle pasta tossed with Romanesco, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach and sweet Onions in a Four-Cheese Cream Sauce for me. Both were equally delicious, but while Tom was able to finish his dish, I was not.
When we were done we were sitting in front of our plates for quite some time. Our server walked by, but didn’t clean the plates or ask for dessert. After about 20 minutes of waiting he decided to take away the plates and asked about dessert – hm, could we have a menu please.
He murmured something, then left and returned a while later with two dessert menus and left again. After quite a while he returned again, took the order and disappeared again. A food runner brought out our desserts. Tom had

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0745.jpg

the Chocolate Cannoli Cake, with cannoli and nutella filling, while I felt like something light and had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0744.jpg

Mama's Panna Cotta, Tiramisu-flavored custard with ladyfingers and Cappuccino cream. Unfortunately neither of the desserts lived up to the expectations. By then we had been nearly three hours since we had checked in and we were both growing tired of sitting there and waiting.
In the meantime our server had been assigned to look after a 10 top and it took all his attention, so we waited some more. When he finally was done with taking their orders we asked for the bill. He went back and forth and back and forth and finally he put our bill on the table. I was really running out of patience by that time. Don’t get me wrong, I do understand that those servers have a lot of things to do, but our server was mostly standing in a doorway staring, then wandering between the tables until he went back to staring. We decided to go with the requested 18% tip and not top it up like we usually do and put our KTTW card inside the holder and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

Our server walked to the table next to us, to the table behind us, but would he pick up our bill? NO WAY! So, when I saw another Castmember walk by, one who was not in uniform, I asked about our bill being processed. She picked it up, asked if everything had been alright and I was in no mood to lie, I told her that this meal had taken over three hours now, and we were done! Really. She apologized, took our bill and soon after we could see her talk to our server, who went to process our bill.
The other Cast member came back and handed us something, which I didn’t realize in the first place. She told us that she was truly sorry we had lost so much of our park time here in the restaurant, hoped that our meal had been pleasant and handed us a “Guest of Honor” Fastpass.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0757.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0758.jpg

It practically lets you go on a ride of your choice right away. We were both stunned and thanked her so much for her kind gesture. Disney knows how to make things right and guests happy! So once our bill was paid we left the restaurant and walked over to Startours as we only had minutes left on our Fastpass.

Hi Karin!!! I have not abandoned your trip report, I promise! My daughter and I made our second trip to WDW and just returned, so I haven't been keeping up very well.

But I am all caught up now and still loving your report. I am really impressed by Boatwrights - I had no idea!!

Also, I am really interested to hear more about OKW. I rented DVC points this year, and we had the most fantastic time ever at the Boardwalk Villas. I would love to buy in to DVC. Do you always rent a car? Do you think OKW is do-able without a car? One of the things I loved about BWV was that we never waited long for a bus, and two out of four parks were within easy walking distance. I'm guessing I might find a less accessible resort not as magical. What do you think?

Hi! Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful time at WDW!

We loved Boatwrights and were so happy we got a same day reservation there. The food was outstanding.

Yes, we always rent a car, but we love to go offsite. Being from Europe we love to explore Florida as well as Disney. And on the other hand I have no desire to wait for buses, stand in long lines and stand in a crowded bus on the way back to the resort after a long parkday. Yes, I am lazy like that.
What I can tell you is, that there is a very good internal bus system at OKW. How can we tell? Last year our villa overlooked a bus stop and you could have set your watch on that internal bus!
It is a large resort, but that again is what we love about it. You do not feel like you are in a hotel, you feel like you are part of a small community, the studios and 1 bedrooms are the largest on property and it has such a wonderful relaxed feel.
Unfortunately you will have to use a bus to all the parks, no walking distance to any parks.

Hi Karin! I finally made it back & have alot of catching up to do. I was so surprised to read about your experience at MM! When we were there a couple of weeks ago, we had the opposite experience. Hi Mary Ellen!
I have been so busy lately, but I will write back to you this weekend - promise!
I still remember our visit to Mama Melrose before you fell so ill on the ToT and we had such a lot of fun, but this time I was just done! After three hours I didn't want to wait any longer. :rotfl2: We had a park to visit! :lmao:
I am glad you tried the four cheese pesto pizza and even happier that you liked it. I cannot wait to have it again in February! :thumbsup2

Karin we had an even worse experience at MM !! That will be coming in my Sweet sixteen TR!!Suffice to say it is OFF my list!!!!!:scared1:

I cannot believe you had such a mediocre experience at MM as well, Rosie. For us, if we want to do the Fantasmic package it would still be the only option. I don't like Hollywood and Vine and we weren't too impressed by the Brown Derby either. But I guess we won't do Fantasmic next summer anyway, so no problem and things and servers can change in the meantime. ;)

Talk about a marathon meal! Too bad it wasn't that special.;) I'm glad they at least gave you a Fast Pass - should have been an all day one after that!

Tammie, the starters and entrees were pretty good, we were just so disappointed in the service. We don't mind waiting if the server appears to be very busy, but "ours" at MM was just leaning against a doorway, looking bored. I was NO happy bunny! :rotfl2:

Day 4, August 16

Guest of honour - Part 3

So once our bill was paid we left the restaurant and walked over to Startours as we only had minutes left on our Fastpass.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0748.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0752.jpg

We entered the queue area and walked past a lot of people standing in the standby line up until the last room where even the people in Fastpass line had to wait. But it only took about 5 minutes to reach the area where you are assigned a row and we got lucky in into the front row.
The new ride is fun, still jerky and we liked it a lot. Once we got off the ride we walked over to the tip board

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0759.jpg

as we still had the Guest of Honor pass and found that it would be the perfect pass to use at Toy Story Mania as it had a 100 minute wait in the standby line.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0760.jpg

So we walked over there, handed over our pass, and got in the Fastpass line. It still was about 15 minutes until we got on the ride, but at least it was less than the 100 minutes in the regular line. We had about 45 minutes left until we had to get into the theatre for Fantasmic and since we were already there, we decided to head into “One man’s dream”.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0762.jpg

The air conditioning was nice and it’s a great exhibition, so we took our time, explored

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0769.jpg

and read all the signs before we got to the holding area before the movie. There was still a 10 minute wait, so we went back to have a closer look at the exhibits at the end

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0770.jpg

and in no time we were let inside the theatre. We both love the movie about Walt, and even though we have seen it MANY times it never gets boring.
When we left the theatre it was already time to head over to Fantasmic. The theatre was FULL already.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day04/IMG_0771.jpg

In the Fantasmic package area, which is to the very right facing the stage, there were only a few seats at the very top left, so we decided where we wanted to sit and settled in. About 20 minutes later the show started and it was really nice to watch. We hadn’t seen it in a while and we while we both remembered the plot of the show it was nice to be reminded of all the fun details that make Disney stand out when it comes to story telling. Tom tried to take pictures and he did,

but every now and then people in front of us would have their kids stand up, so it didn’t always work out. Once the show ended everyone got up and pushed towards the exit and this time we were pretty lucky we were seated so close to the exit, it didn’t take us long to get there.
The park was still open for a few more minutes, but we had already decided to call it a day and leave. Again, we got lucky at the tram stop, as a tram had just pulled in and we were able to grab a seat on the first one out. When we had finally gotten to the car we opened up the top and enjoyed driving home in a warm summer night’s air.
Once back at the villa we checked our email, then made ourselves comfortable on the couches and watched a little TV, before we went to bed.

I can't even imagine a 3 hour meal when you are at a park. It's one thing to CHOOSE to dine that long, it's another when you have somewhere else you want to be. The food looked delicious but that doesn't take away the bad experience. I'm so glad the server gave you the FastPass.

The picture of the crowd at Fantasmic is crazy. I can't believe how many people they can pack into that theater!

I had to take a deep breath walking into that theater and seeing all those people in there. ;) ..... you are right, once you are seated you forget about all those people around you! :goodvibes
It's amazing to see how many people fit in there AND to see the park still crowded.

But we loved to be able to do TSM and not have to wait for 100 minutes! :thumbsup2

I don't mind a three hour meal at a signature, when they wait on you hand and foot. But it just wasn't right in the middle of a park, where you have rides to ride and shows to see. ;)
It gets pretty packed in that theater, but at least we did not have to sit around for an hour using the Fantasmic Package. :thumbsup2

Sorry about the long wait at Mama Melrose...that is just not acceptable; but glad they took care of you with the fast pass.

You do realize that you can use the fastpass you got for Star Tours at any time AFTER the time it says you can come back, don't you? We got fastpasses for Big Thunder at 10:00 a.m. and our return time was 11:30 a.m. or something like that. We did NOT use it until 10:30 that night.

Love the Fantasmic pictures. We've not been since 2008 and probably won't see it until the fall of next year (it is closed in January when I go).

Wow, I've never heard of Boatwright before! But it looks like someplace I'd love to try. Especially the corn bread part.

I've heard so many bad things about Mama Melrose's service... It's too bad you had such a bad time with your server, but at least the other one made up for it!

It's great that you were able to get a seat that late before the show! I know Disney recommends package people to show up at least 30 mins before. But really, any seat is a good seat in that theatre.

Tom took great photos!

Day 5, August 17

A lazy day is a good day - Part 1

We woke up to another beautiful morning and not knowing how to spend the day.
Before we went on vacation I had made a detailed plan, but sticking to it was not always easy – sometimes the plan just didn’t feel right. So we decided not to follow the plan and enjoy breakfast out on our veranda.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0773.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0774.jpg

Tom had some coffee and I stuck to my tea, we had sandwiches which Tom prepared with stuff out of the fridge and there were still some leftover doughnuts which we microwaved.
The view from the veranda was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting there and do nothing. But by mid morning we started to get antsy and wanted to do something. So we came up with the idea of visiting some resorts.
And what better resort to start with than Port Orleans Riverside. It was closeby and why not visit the neighbours down the road.

So around 10.30 we got ready, walked down to the car and drove over to Riverside.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0781.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0782.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0783.jpg

We took our time, explored the lobby and the store and then proceeded to walk back to the Riverside Mill, check out their menu and offerings and finally walked outside to explore the grounds.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/DSC_0615.jpg

So we strolled across the bridge, over to the main pool area,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0793.jpg

explored the pool bar and finally walked past the fishing hole and over to the Bayou buildings.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0797.jpg

We had a good look around, but then clouds started to roll in and we decided that it would be better to head back to the car. We walked along Magnolia Bend and the sun came back so we just kept on walking, had a good luck at the construction going on.

Day 5, August 17

A lazy day is a good day - Part 2

Finally we crossed over the bridge along the road to the other side of the Sassagoula River and kept on walking towards Port Orleans French Quarter. By that time it had gotten scorching hot and we more or less dragged ourselves to the Main Building to enjoy the air conditioning.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0803.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0804.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0805.jpg

We must have looked at every item in the shop until we felt like we could go outside again. Before that we walked through the Sassagoula Floatworks to have a look at the menu, nothing had changed and it wasn’t really time to have lunch yet, so we wandered outside again and thought about the walk back to Riverside.
And then it dawned on us, there was a boat running between the resorts.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/DSC_0635.jpg

When we got to the docks we could just see a boat going under the bridge, but we decided to just wait anyway. About 15 minutes later the next boat arrived, many of the people waiting wanted to go to Downtown Disney, and only 3 families were waiting for the boat to Riverside, so it was easy to find a seat and enjoy the ride back to Riverside.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0806.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0809.jpg

Once we had arrived we walked into the Riverside Mill and had a look at their menu, but there was nothing that really peaked our interest, so we decided to head over to the Contemporary Resort to have lunch at the Contempo Café.
We had eaten there before and liked the food and they had a few cupcakes I was ready to try. So we walked over to the car and a few minutes later we were approaching the Contemporary Resort.
We parked our car and walked to the hotel, enjoyed the air conditioning and went up to the restaurant. It was around noon and the restaurant looked quite full, but we got in line anyway. We ordered our food at the kiosks, then walked up to the bakery to order our desserts.
At check-out you are handed a buzzer and with that in hand we picked up our drinks and found a nice table. We started taking photos of the desserts and while we were still doing that the buzzer went off. Tom went to pick up our order and we were ready to dig in.
We had decided to share our dishes and had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0820.jpg

the Florida Strawberry cupcake, a vanilla cupcake topped with strawberry frosting, dipped into red and white sprinkles and a piece of fresh strawberry on top. Once you cut into it, it is filled with preserved strawberries – so good. Both were too huge and even though we tried our best, we were not able to finish them both.
Once we had finished our lunch we walked over to the shop and took a good look around.

Embassy Suites is nice because of the location and easy access to the highway. There have been soooooo many changes since I lived there that I couldn't begin to suggest another place to stay. But you could look into one of the many bed and breakfast establishments. They are more quaint and homey. There are many to choose from. I will try to remember to ask my cousin the next time I talk to her. You might also try eating at The Rutherford Grille in Rutherford. It is a very small town North of Napa right on the main highway. You can bring your own wine with no corkage fee (most restaurants in Napa Valley have no corkage fees). They have a grilled artichoke appetizer that is to die for. My favorite restaurant in the Valley. If you like sparkling wine, make sure you visit Mumm.

You can also visit The Napa Valley Olive Oil Manufacturing Co. in St. Helena. It is like an Old World Italian Deli. Very rustic, but very good for your meats, cheeses and other yumminess. I remember going there when I was a child.

Okay, now I am getting homesick....

POR and POFQ are so pretty. I stayed at POFQ once and I really enjoyed cruising along the river and exploring the resorts. It is a great 'lazy day' activity!

Tom and I love POR, POFQ doesn't draw me in quite as much. While it's nice, for us it doesn't have the southern charm POR has.
But the boatride from both POR and OKW is so relaxing and nice. :thumbsup2

We really enjoyed staying at the Embassy Suites in 2006. It was new (or newly renovated) and offered free breakfast, which was really nice.
But we will have a look into the Bed and Breakfast hotels there. Our only problem is that we need two beds in the room and most B&Bs only offer one. ;)
I made a note of the Rutherford Grill - we love to try out restaurants that the locals recommend.
You know, I never thought of bringing my own wine to a restaurant. :lmao: This is something that is totally unknown here.
Thanks for pointing out Mumm. We visited a few wineries when we were there in 2006, Beringer being one of them. But the one I am most looking forward to visit again is Silverado! :goodvibes

Great updates Karin :goodvibes

I loved your resort day at POR & FQ :thumbsup2

Do you mind if I ask where your room was situated at OKW? it looks like a wonderful location :cloud9:

It was such a nice, laidback and relaxing day and the resorts are just beautiful. :goodvibes

We were in building 31 on the second floor. That's one of the locations on Turtle Pond Road.
To be honest I have yet to encounter a villa I didn't like the view from. My only request is always just the higher floor! :goodvibes

What a great TR so far. Can't wait for more updates.
Pics are great too!!:thumbsup2

I am glad you like it! More updates coming up soon - we still have quite a few days to review! ;)

Loving your trippie ! You have a flair for travel reporting, almost makes us feel as if we were there with you, lol ! Looking forward to the rest of it !

Thank you so much for your kind words. They mean a lot to me, especially since English is not my first language.
I'll hurry up with the rest, I promise! :goodvibes

I got to tour French Qtr. the day after you visited. I was impressed with it!

POR will always be MY favourite. I really love the feel of POR. FQ doesn't draw us in as much. Can't put my finger on it, why this is so.

Day 5, August 17

A lazy day is a good day - Part 3

Once we had finished our lunch we walked over to the shop and took a good look around.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0825.jpg

And while doing that we discovered that it had started to rain, well, not rain but a downpour.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0824.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0826-1.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0823.jpg

We killed some more time exploring the resort and when the rain subsided a little bit we hurried back to the car and drove back to Old Key West.
It was still raining when we arrived so we just decided to rest a little in the villa. Tom put the Jacuzzi to good use, while I tried to catch up on emails. In the afternoon we sat outside on the balcony for a while and then thought about what to do with the rest of the evening.
We had an ADR, but didn’t really feel like it, so we used the dining website to find out what was available.
The Yachtsman Steakhouse had availability and we had too many table service credits left over anyway, so we cancelled our existing reservation and made a new one for the steakhouse.
Once that was done we rested a little more and finally got ready to drive over to the Yacht Club Resort.
We were a bit too early, so we explored the resort a little. We walked into the store, had a good look around, watched people having fun at Stormalong Bay and finally walked over to the restaurant. We signed in, were handed a buzzer and told that we had about a 15 minute wait and we were free to walk around. Well, that’s what we had just done, so we found a seat and waited patiently for our buzzer to go off.
It didn’t take very long and we were called to the podium and taken to our table. On the way the host pointed out the different meat cuts being on show in a huge window and he seemed pretty proud of them.
Shortly after we had been seated our server arrived, introduced herself, offered to explain the menu and took our drinks orders. It didn’t take long for her to return with our Diet Cokes, followed by

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0828.jpg

a basket of warm onion rolls, and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0832.jpg

a small dish with salted butter and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0831.jpg

lots of roasted garlic.
Needless to say we tried everything and were very happy with it. We enjoyed the nice ambience of the restaurant and watched one chef happily serving wonderful plates of food.
It didn’t take too long and our entrees were served. Tom had decided to go with the server’s recommendation and had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0836-1.jpg

the 24-oz Center Cut Porterhouse, served with Smoked Paprika Fries and Roasted Garlic Butter, which was huge.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0840-1.jpg

But he did a great job! ;) :thumbsup2

I had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0833.jpg

the 8-oz Center Cut Filet Mignon, which came with Mashed Potatoes and Cabernet Wine Sauce.
We both enjoyed our main courses very much.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0843-1.jpg

And once we had finished our main courses there was still dessert to conquer. Our server brought us the dessert menus and I chose

the Habanero – infused flourless chocolate cake

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0846.jpg

with Mango compote and lime sorbet, which was wonderful and I really enjoyed the taste of the chili in it. Tom wanted to try

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0847.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0848.jpg

the Lemon Pudding Cake,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0850.jpg

Blueberry Shake,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day05/IMG_0849.jpg

Fruit Leather and Mt. Tam Cheese.
It did not only look good, it WAS a wonderful dessert.
We had thought about heading over to Epcot for the fireworks after dinner, but we were both far too stuffed to do so.
So instead of going to Epcot we rolled back to our car and drove back to Old Key West. We spent the rest of the evening lounging in front of the TV and trying to digest the wonderful food we had just had. And we actually got to bed early that night – we had an exiting morning planned for the next day.

To be continued ..........

I couldn't believe my eyes when they brought out the steak and I was surprised Tom was able to finish it! :rotfl2: But then he didn't eat much of his sides. ;)

This was our first visit to the Yachtsman Steakhouse and we truly enjoyed the experience!

I am so thankful for all the lazy days we can take. I remember when we first went to WDW it was go, go, go all the time.
That has changed a lot. We have done all the rides and if we can't get on now we will get on another time. And there is always the next vacation. ;)

Actually all the tables were taken, but it did not feel crowded at all. There was a steady rotation of the tables but it all went very smoothly. :thumbsup2

I hope Narcossee's was nice too. We had a pretty bad experience there once and have not been back since. ;)
You should try the Yachtsman, the filet was out of this world good and Tom's was exceptional as well! :thumbsup2

But you have found it now! :woohoo:
We had a very laid back vacation, no stress, no "running" to the parks early and staying late - it's a blessing we stay for an extended period of time. And then I really love the resort as well.
We have been to MM a few times, and it has always taken a while to be seated, but dinner itself was always fast. I don't mind taking my time, but we were REALLY done by the time I approached that CM about the bill. :sad2:

There's lots more fun to come. We had a lot of fun on this vacation and met some great people!

Silverado wines are really good!! I don't know what kind of wine you like, but Mumm has a delicious sparkling Pinot Noir.

We love Silverado wines! Last summer we found a shop that carried several different kinds of their wine and we sampled "a lot". ;)
I need to make myself a list of the places I want to visit in 2013! And be sure Mumm is definitely on the list! :thumbsup2
Thanks for allowing me to come back to you if I have more questions - I guess I will! ;)

Day 6, August 18

Water fun and more - Part 1

We had made our minds up on what to do that day and we were sure to follow through with them. So we got up early, had some sandwiches for breakfast, got our day bags ready and off we went, over to Typhoon Lagoon.
We arrived there right around the time they opened the turnstiles. We could see quite a line in front of them from our car, but once we had made our way over there, the line was almost gone. We were through in no time,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1028.jpg

walked over to the shop and rented a locker and some towels. Once we had found our locker we put everything in it, except the new water camera we had bought and intended to bring with us for some fun photos. Armed with our camera and the towels we walked over to the wave pool and really found some lounge chairs very close to the water’s edge.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1032.jpg

We put on more suntan lotion, waited a few minutes for it to be absorbed and off we went to the pool.
There were already quite a few people in the pool and we joined them in the fun. I just could not remember how strong those waves were. They swept us off our feet and I was really worried I would hit some of the kids that were in the water around us. So we looked for a spot where there were less people and enjoyed being “run over” by the waves.
It didn’t seem like we had been in the water for very long, but when we looked at the clock we were surprised to find out that we had been in the water for about 45 minutes. We sat on our lounge chairs for a while until we were dried off again, then applied some more lotion and off we went again. There is a fun lazy river, so we walked over to the nearest entry and they were out of tubes. So we decided to just keep on walking along the river until we would either hit the main entrance to the river or a smaller entry where there were some tubes left.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1033.jpg

We passed the wave pool and watched several waves until we headed towards the main entrance to the lazy river again. We soon had found it, grabbed two tubes and after climbing on them, off we went.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1054.jpg

It was really fun to just be swept along, with a few people trying to overtake and push their tubes. It takes quite a while to circle the park on the river and we really enjoyed the ride. Once we came full circle we decided to stay on a little longer and leave closer to where our lounge chairs were. Once we had gotten off we walked around a bit and passed the pool where riders of the Crush'n'Gusher exit. We watched a few riders,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1056.jpg

were thinking about getting in line, but when we saw the wait time for the ride we decided against it. We walked back to our chairs and took a few more pics of the people in the wave pool. Around 12pm we were hungry and went in search of some food.

To be continued ..........

Day 6, August 18

Water fun and more - Part 2

Around 12pm we were hungry and went in search of some food. We ended up at Typhoon Tilly's,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1063.jpg

and since we seemed to bit ahead of the lunch crowd there were several empty picnic tables, so we placed our order, picked up our food and headed to the tables.
We picked one right next to the lazy river and sat down to enjoy lunch. As always we had agreed on sharing our entrees and had picked

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1068.jpg

the Fried Shrimp, served with French Fries. Now, we didn't expect much, but they were delicious. Our second choice was

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1065.jpg

the Chicken Wrap. Lots of chicken mixed in with Caesar Salad and wrapped up in a flour tortilla. This was quite good as well, but unfortunately it still was quite cold and that took away some of the flavour. But we were hungry and just dug in. For dessert Tom had opted for

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1075.jpg

the Chocolate Cake and funnily enough I ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1074.jpg

the Cheesecake. Both were the regular pre-packaged cakes and we both ate about half of them before they became to much for us. Once we had finished our meal we watched people go by on the lazy river, but soon we saw that people were searching for tables, so we packed up our trash and left the table to others to enjoy their lunch too.
Bellies full we walked back to our lounge chairs and relaxed for a while. Around 1pm we decided to hit the pool one more time.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1062.jpg

It had become very crowded and it was hard to find a spot where we were sure that we would not hit anyone behind us.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1078.jpg

We played in the waves for about half an hour

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1079.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1083.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1085.jpg

and then decided to call it a day and leave. So after changing into some dry clothes we returned our locker keys and picked up some nice fridge magnets as a souvenir.
We then headed towards the exit and over to the car. The drive to Old Key West is pretty short and in no time we were back in our villa. And after taking showers and rinsing our swim suits we plopped down on the couch for some rest.
Since we always have a well stocked fridge we kept on snacking on the salads and nibbled on some chips and dips.
Around 3pm we decided that it was so nice outside and we had not been to the quiet pool yet, so why not hit it. So we put on our swimsuits again, and walked over to the quiet pool. There were quite a few people at the pool, but we were able to find some chairs, left our clothes on the chairs and hit the water.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/DSCF1089.jpg

Even though the quiet pool can get very crowded it is usually pretty peaceful and that day was no exception. We stayed in the water for quite some time, then went to dry off a bit before we hit the hot tub for a while.
And after enjoying the hot water we finally headed back to our villa. We had another shower, I dried my hair and we were on our way over to Epcot for dinner at Le Cellier.

To be continued ..........

Tom has made another advent's calendar for you all to enjoy!

Now, since we had a few misunderstandings last year, here is a little instruction.
There are 25 "doors" which represent the 25 days in December. Every day you may open the door with the number that corresponds with the day given.

 That is quite the wave! That poor little guy ahead of you. I imagine that wave hit him hard.

Those waves are huge! And they knock over grown ups too! ;)

We have never been to one of the water parks. It seems we never have enough time, but it looks like you had a lot of fun. And that fried shrimp looks great. Can't wait to hear about Le Cellier!

You HAVE to try the water parks! It took us years to try them, but now we really enjoy them. Typhoon Lagoon is so much fun, you even have a water coaster there! :thumbsup2
And Blizzard Beach is so much fun too! If you go there you have to do Summit Plummet! SO much fun!!!! :thumbsup2
Le Cellier coming up pretty soon. :goodvibes

I really think Mark and I need to get back to Typhoon Lagoon...we've not been since 2000 and it is my favorite. Which pool were you close to at Old Key West? It looks so inviting (better than the dreary, rainy weather we currently have).

Kathy, you need to make time for Typhoon Lagoon next time ... and I guess your little urchins would love it there too! ;)
That's the quiet pool on Turtle Pond Road. We really love it there, so peaceful!

Hi Karin
Wonderful photos from Typhoon Lagoon :thumbsup2
I wish I was floating round that lazy river right now :)

Oh, my, to float in that lazy river right now on a dreary foggy December day! :cloud9:

Glad you like the photos, Jen!
We bought a water camera a few days before we left on that trip and it really worked well! :thumbsup2
Lunch was wonderful and the whole day was just really nice.
You need to take a longer vacation one day and "enjoy" Disney without all the pressure of having to go to a park. :goodvibes

What a great idea, the advent calendar. Day one looked yummy. :santa:

I am very happy you like the calendar ..... just keep checking back every day, there are a few more yummy surprises! :goodvibes

Day 6, August 18

Water fun and more - Part 3

We had another shower, I dried my hair and we were on our way over to Epcot for dinner at Le Cellier.
It was hot and humid and we took our time to walk over to Canada. Off Kilter was playing when we walked by, so we stopped and listened for a while and took some photos of Jamie for our friend Mary Ellen.

Then it was time to sign in for our reservation at Le Cellier. We were looking forward to experience this new signature restaurant. We were told that we would have to wait about 20 minutes and while we were waiting we could see that they had to turn away a lot of guests without ADRs.
After about 10 minutes wait we were called and taken to our table, one of the very small tables in the middle of the room. Not the best location for a table, but there was nothing we could do about it.
We sat down and the host gave the spiel about which province you are seated in and it really sounded like a spiel, no extra information, just the basics. She told us that our server would be coming by shortly and left us with the menus. We were still studying the menus when our server introduced himself and asked for our drinks order.
We ordered the usual Diet Cokes as neither of us felt like having an adult drink. It took a while until our drinks were served and our server was ready to take our order. We ordered our main courses and the server rushed away to put our order in and then returned with

a basket of bread. He told us which one was which, there were some Pretzel sticks, some sourdough rolls and some multigrain rolls and put

a small plate with butter sprinkled with sea salt on the table. We nibbled a little bread while waiting for our entrees and were a bit annoyed by the server, who would ask about how we were doing every time he walked by our table. A short time later a food runner brought out our entrees. Tom had ordered

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/IMG_0860.jpg

the Grilled Bone-in Ribeye, a 16 oz. bone-in ribeye with herb-parmesan potato wedges and maple-pink peppercorn butter, which he enjoyed a lot. I knew what I wanted, an old favourite,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day06/IMG_0857-1.jpg

the Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon, a 8 oz. Canadian AAA Beef Tenderloin with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle butter sauce and micro chervil. Both pieces of meat were perfectly cooked and we enjoyed them very much. There was still dessert to conquer. We both were not sure what to order and had not seen the display they had at the entrance.

So Tom decided on

the Peach Clafoutis, with Ginger Ice Cream, Peach Nectar and Ginger Snap, while I tried

the Trio of Chocolate, Canadian Club Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Sorbet, and warm Chocolate-Almond Cake. All in all our dinner was nice, but we did not think it was a signature dinner.
Once we had finished our dinner the server brought the bill and we settled it, got up and left. When we walked outside we were greeted by a downpour. It was raining cats and dogs and we neither did we bring a poncho nor an umbrella.
It didn't look like it would let off any time soon, so we speed walked over to the shops and bought a poncho. Since the rain had picked up even more we spent some time inside the shop before the rain got a little lighter and we were able to walk outside again.
We had signed up for the Preferred Fireworks viewing for that evening, and we actually wanted to stay for Extra Magic Hours, but the rain really put us off and after a visit to Mousegear we decided to just go back to the resort and have an earlier night.
So we slowly walked back towards the International Gateway and the Beach Club again. Since we still had quite a few snack credits to spend we decided to have a look inside the shop there and find something we might be able to bring on the cruise. We picked up

two lollies for two girls who celebrated their birthdays on the cruise,

a Mickey Mint chocolate bar and

three little containers of Mickey Head Cheese Crackers. All our purchases in hand we got in line for the next cash register and when a new cast member opened a new till we were expected to head over there.
The cast member was still earning her ears and we told her we wanted to use snack credits for our purchases and she told us it would not be a problem. So she rang up our snacks, we handed her the Key To The World Card and she processed it and handed us the bill.
I took a look at how many snack credits we were supposed to have left and it did not say anything about snack credits, she had billed us for the snacks. Well, we did not want to use our credit card for the snacks, so she had to call over a manager, who had to reverse the purchase and ring it up again to use the snack credits.
He was very apologetic, but we did not mind at all, the issue was being resolved and that was it. The only issue was that it had taken about 20 minutes to get things straightened out.
While we walked back to our car we could hear the fireworks and later see them from the road, while driving towards Old Key West. Once we were back in our villa we watched a little TV and then called it a day and went to bed early.

To be continued ..........

Great update, Karin. I'm glad we were not the only ones who thought that LeCellier was NOT a signature restaurant. While thd food was good, it was not as good as it had been in the past. And they were not very accomodating.

Hi Karin! Caught up here!:cool1: I forgot to say how wonderful your TL day looked. I like BB better, but the food is better at TL, I think.

I have been hearing that Le Cellier has gone downhill. I think alot of people have been disappointed lately. Too bad they made it a signature dinner just because it was a popular place. Off Kilter sounds so fun to see - I hope we run in to them sometime.

Thank you, Kathy.
No, we were not impressed with LeCellier and will not be returning for dinner any time soon.
If they want to be a real signature restaurant they need to rethink the crammed atmosphere and train the servers accordingly. ;)

I cannot believe that your trip was already over then! :scared1: But the rain was torrential that night. ;)
Glad you were not delayed flying out. :thumbsup2

We have been to both waterparks and while I loved Summit Plummet, I just found TL a bit more relaxed.

The food was still nice at LC, but not worth the price they were charging and the service was not that of a signature restaurant. :sad2:
We have never stopped for Off Kilter, but Mary Ellen loves them and after having listened to them a few times together with Mary Ellen and Joe we now at least stop and listen to a song or two. :goodvibes
