Information for the Holidays & Seasons Swap (Groups in the next post)
Sign ups will open on Oct 11th, 8:30am EST open through Oct 13
Due date January 17th (gets us through the holiday).

Newbies are welcome. If you haven't swapped with us on this board before, then I will limit you to 2 groups.

PLEASE READ THIS: BAGGING AND LABELING INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BAG AS RESQUESTED, I RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT YOU REFRAIN FROM JOINING THIS SWAP. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE UNSURE.

There are 4 different types of groups listed:
-- The first set is for 2-inch embellished letters to spell a holiday or season
-- The second set is title and one element (see element requirements below)
-- The third set is for 2 page layout from sketches
-- Grp 13: Song Lyrics

Groups are listed in the next post.

I will pm you with a reminder if you forget to check in. After 48 hours with no response I will request angels for your spots. If you are going on vacation or will be out of town, please check in early. Please do not sign up for more than you can handle. If you need an angel, please ask for one as soon as possible.

After sign-ups, please pm me your name, DIS name, mailing address, email address and phone number (I will only use these in an emergency). I will send the same to you.

Groups A-BB Make your letter(s) 2 inches, matted, and embellished at least once. Your top letter is cut at 2 inches and the mat can be the shadow. You may use patterned and solid colored paper. Please be creative and use colors that represent your group selection. The Birthday groups (P Q R) use the colors specified. Capital letters only. Some cricut letters cut small – please check that your letter is approximately 2 inches. (My intention is that these directions are the same as the recent letter swaps - -please let me know if this isn’t clear)

For Groups 1 - 12: Make one title piece and one other element

Element list:
Title = standard 8x2 topper (other sizes are okay), welded and shadowed letters, letters on squares, circles,mini tags or other shapes, a large title tag, title on a box, borders, or altered CD.
1 paper piecing (not a single layer diecut)
2 photomats for a 4x6 photo, 2 layers, smallest layer 4 ¼ x 6 ¼, embellished
2 journal boxes, total of 3 layers, minimum writing space 3x3, embellished (other sizes are permitted)
2 tags (or 1 large tag—greater than 2x3), 2 layers, something in the hole and embellished
1 file folder or matchbook (2 if mini) - -embellished
2 slide mounts -- embellished
Altered CD
3 altered paper clips
1 shaker box
1 library pocket and tag. Tag must be 2 layers with something in the hole, pocket must be embellished
1 license plate
3 shapes(squares, circles, stars, flowers etc or mini paper piecings) 2 layers, embellished
1 ATC
4 inchies
Signage/Bookmark: 1PP 2x6, double matted and embellished
Song/Lyric/Poem: 1PP, 3 layers in total and embellished. Min size 3x4, shapes are welcome
1 Border - 12x2 inches and able to be cut down to 11 inches in length - 2 layers and embellished.

You can mix and match -- 1 tag and box, 1 photomat and box, 1 tag and 2 squares or shapes, etc.

******Please let me know if you have an idea not listed! We are open to new things.

Suggestions for embellishments include:
Die cuts, stickers, stickles, flock, ink, chalk, brads, charms, flowers, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, sewing, tearing, embossing, stamping, clipart, additional layers of paper beyond double mats (if it would look weird trying to fit in another embellishment, specialty paper (such as embossed, glitter, Bling).

Grp 13 Christmas Song Lyrics:
State your song choice at sign ups. No duplicates allowed. This is meant to be a page embellishment - -the whole song is not necessary. 3 layers are required. The smallest layer should be no smaller than 4x4. It need not be square - -circles, shapes etc are fine. If you are using a shape, some part of it should measure approximately 4 inches or more. Embellished at least once.

Groups I-VI: Choose one of the sketches provided (Becky Fleck) or choose a sketch from www.pagemaps.com. See post 3 for the sketches.

You must use quality paper for the photomats. It must match the layout. Do not assume that the mat will be covered by the photos. Some people will crop their photo to create a mat, or put a smaller photo in the space provided.

You may embellish extra or add extra layers. You may change the size of the photomats. You may rotate the sketch. You may take one side of the sketch and mirror it. It should resemble the sketch in number, size and placement of photos along with the journaling being in the same general area - -exception is if you choose one side of the sketch and mirror it. Most sketches have examples of them being used on www.pagemaps.com/jpegarchives.htm

-Please use a layer of cardstock as your base. You may completely cover it with thinner paper. It is very difficult to sort them when they bend and sometimes the embellishments get caught.

-Please use quality paper on your layouts. I will not limit you to “name” brands, but please use good judgment. If the patterned paper doesn't have a name printed on it, don't use it.

-You are not required to double mat your elements or have to embellish the elements one/two way. Use your judgment on what looks best.

-You may use any kind of embellishment you like on these sketches where they are indicated or in place of a “layer” of paper. Ribbon and fiber are good substitutions for paper layers.

-You may use different embellishments and paper on each of your layouts. Please ensure they are of the same quality.

-You will not have to tell me your title selection. It will be okay if we have some with the same title. The chances of the same title using the same paper and embellishments is pretty slim. If sign up for a particular title, please do use that one.

-More than one of the same sketch can be in the same group. We did groups using the same sketch last time and they were all different looking inside the same group.

-If the sketch has a date/event/place or anything more than a title, leave that area blank. These can be added by the members after they receive the pages.

-Please sign the back of your layout.

-Place each group in their own 2-gallon baggie and label the baggie with your real name, DISname and group information. No need for one single baggie for all the group baggies. Please have each set face each other; side 1 facing side 2 so that the backs are on the outside- each group only needs 1 bag.

Labeling:
Every bag should be labeled with your DISname, name and Group number. Pages should be labeled (or printed) on the back with your name and DISname.

Bagging: ALL BAGS MUST CLOSE

Groups A-BB 2” letters: Put each letter in a small jewelry bag or snack size bag or no larger than a sandwich size bag. It must close. If you have 2 letters, they can go in the same bag as long as they are not sticky. Label each bag. Put all of the bags in a QUART size or gallon size bag. (No smaller than quart size). Label this bag too.

For Groups 1-12: Put your title and element in a bag that closes. Label it. Take all of your baggies for a group and place them in GALLON size (or larger) bag, and label with the same. Please use the gallon bag (or larger) -- your items may fit in a smaller bag, but the items you receive back might not.

Fpr Grp 13:
Put your song lyric in a bag that closes. Label it. Take all of your baggies for the group and place them in GALLON size (or larger) bag, and label with the same. Please use the gallon bag (or larger) -- your items may fit in a smaller bag, but the items you receive back might not.

For Groups I-VI:
Place each group in their own 2-gallon or 2.5 gallon baggie and label it. Please have each set face each other; side 1 facing side 2 so that the backs are on the outside- each group only needs 1 bag.

Mailing:
* You may send to me, by any method you choose unless you are mailing after January 3 [note this is before the mail by date]. Then, you must mail Priority WITH Delivery Confirmation.
* I prefer to send to you using flat rate boxes/envelopes. Please include enough postage in your package for return shipping. The rates are: Envelope or Small Box (9”x6”x2”) - $5.20, Medium/Standard box – $10.95, Large - $14.95.
* If you want your items shipped to you with DC, please include the $.70, and a filled out slip. I will not mail the items back with delivery confirmation unless you include the $.70 and the filled out DC form.
* Please include a label (can be the priority label completed with your info or a small address label) for me to use to return your items to you.
* DO NOT include clik-it/ship-it postage. I will not be able to use it since it is only good on the day it was printed, and from the location it was printed.

I have an added a tentative list of groups in post 2. Please look over it and make suggestions - -especially additions of subtractions to the 2" letters list. Mazda -- please check that I have the mixed groups of holiday good for UK players.

It seemed like the most votes were for title + one element of your choice from the usual list (I will post that with the sign ups). If this isn't what is wanted, please speak up!

I have groups listed for 2" letters, title + one element, and pages.

Some questions for you:

1. Title + element groups: Group size -- is a max of 8 too much? There doesn't seem to be as much interest as last year. I was thinking that one large group would be better than multiple groups of the same theme.

2. PAGES -- do you want single page groups, 2 page groups, or both?

Group 2 holidays are fine for the UK, although for personal preference I'd rather have Easter than Valentines in that group (we've been married a loooooooong time;) )

The Elf on the Shelf is a tradition where your family gets an elf and reads the storybook explaining how it works. The elf gets a name and you write it in the book. My kids named ours Frisbee (because he flys). The elf sits up high and watches the kids all day to see if they're good. At night he flys to the North Pole and reports to santa about how the kids are behaving. The next morning he's back at your house but in a different spot...still watching. My kids love finding him every morning. He comes the day after Thanksgiving and stays until Christmas Eve--when he goes home with santa. No one is allowed to touch him or else he loses his magic. Google it...you'll find a cute website for kids to play elf on the shelf games. All female owned small business started by a mom and her 2 twin daughters.:thumbsup2

There are 3 different type of groups for this swap: 2" letters, full 12x12 pages, and title + element. You join the type of groups you want.

So, let's say you pick group A Christmas, 2" letters and your letter is C. You would make 9 copies of your letter ( quantities will be posted at the closing of the swap), bag them according to directions, send them to me. You will get back a set of letters to spell Christmas

If you choice grp 5, Halloween
You would make a title piece and one element for every person in the group, including your self. We do the Elf on the Shelf here, as well as the pickle. I'm pretty sure there is a thread somewhere about the mischief that the Elves cause. Some people's elves just sit and watch, some cause mischief. We started with the elves a few years ago with the real Elf, but he's rather ugly and scary. In addition, I bought some cute Disney elves to go along with it (from the Christmas special they had on). The mischief can be quite fun to come up with-snowball fights with cotton balls for the snow balls, or making little messes, etc. The older ones at my house spend a lot of time thinking up elaborate plots for them :rotfl2: Even my sister helped out last year. One year, he went to sit on the shelf in the guest restroom. One of the kids wouldn't go in that room. It was too scary and creepy. The adults thought it was rather weird too having someone watching them in there. Occasionally, the elf moves during the day-it keeps the idea going that the elf is magic since the kids never see it move.

As far as another holiday, how about Memorial Day? Not good for MazdaUK, but it is a popular holiday around here.

Mazda--I've taken pictures earlier in the evening or just used fireworks photos from the newspaper/internet ;) We usually do a special breakfast so I take pictures of that too.

I love the idea of a general memorial/veterans group :thumbsup2 We have lots of military folks in our family so I could definately use that.

I'm trying to figure out what I want to sign up for and I have a question. For 2 pg. layout Group III Seasons are you going to have the 4 slots divided up into the 4 seasons?

Also...love the sketches... but a few I adore use 5x5 photos which I don't really use. Are we allowed to make changes to the sketches and use 4x6 mats instead? For example sketch 7/11 the opposite side of the page would need the squares to be larger as well for balance.

Yes, grp III will be winter, spring, summer, fall --- I'll add that in.

Yes, you can alter the sketches:thumbsup2 If you do re-do the measurements for that page, please post them. 5x5 is an odd size. I seem to have an unconscious tendency to design and pick sketches with squares though. scrapbookpictures.com prints lots of different size square photos.

Hey guys!! :thumbsup2 Yep...it was me that suggested the lyrics! I would love to do that group...would you be just wanting the lyrics or making it a mini kit or adding any elements? I would use them on any Christmas page probably as an additional element just because they kinda "go". I was a little unsure about signing up for this after this week's events. But, I am feeling a bit better about things after a good rest and quality time with the kids last night. What I have decided is that I have a list and will sign up for it as long as I am caught up with my work at that point. So, I plan to be caught up and be able to sign up. Travel will hold me up a little, but I will be taking supplies back and forth.

Anyway ... it would be a max of 8 to a group, 3 layers, embellished twice???, and hmmm...we need a minimum size...maybe 4x4???? No duplicate songs per groups, so you'd have to state your song at sign up. If I get 3 positive responses, I'll add this group.

In the past, we had a Christmas song lyrics swap. The pages were 5" across by 8 1/2" down, with a title and embellished a couple ways probably. They are the same size as the recipe swap pages and fit in the same type of book. It was several years ago I'm sure. I did not sign up for the swap, but prettyintink did and her book is lovely. I wish I had done it. For many of the songs, the print is small in order to accommodate the verses and choruses. From seeing her book, if the lyric is actually meant to be read, as well as embellished, I think the 5"x8 1/2" size is good. Wording is still a bit cramped on some of the longer versed ones.

I guess you would need to decide if the song were the focal point or not to decide a size.

I hope I remember to sign up for this swap before it closes :thumbsup2 I totally lose track of what day it is anymore.

I would do a lyric group, if it was just a single element. I prefer those since it could be used on any page. i think minimum size 4x4 is good and could be bigger if needed. Just a verse and or the chorus is good with me :)

I am up to date through post 110. Please let me knwo if there are changes to be made. I can open new groups if needed, but I can't promise they will fill.

I now have to start my chaotic rountine: make dinner, pick up the kids, get the homework down, please just hurry up and eat your dinner and yes that includes the vegetables, get your stuff ready for whatever sports practice you have tonight and drive 3 kids to 3 different practices that all start and end at the same time, get them home, get them a snack, baths and bed.....and then I can come back here and update the thread!

Many many many thanks to a potential new swapper, Sharli, who pointed out to me through a pm that I had Pumpkin Patch spelled wrong:scared1:. I had the letters P and I too many times. That has been fixed now, with the correct number to make changed from 7 to 6.

I would like to close this tonight. If anyone would like more groups, or can fill, please let me know. For the title plus one element and the page groups, groups with 3 or more I will keep open.

I just didn't want to be greedy on the first morning of sign-ups. ;) The letters go really quick, and they are small enough that I can take them with me to the girls' dance classes. All of the letter groups are filled:cool1: Please look through all of the letter groups and make sure that yours are correct. Note your letter and the quantity required. Some of your letters got changed since the initial post -- if you didn't make a specific request, I may have moved you around.

Thanks for all of the fill ins. If I put you in too many, or the incorrect groups, please let me know ASAP so I can get it corrected.

All of the other groups (1-13 and the pages) have enough swappers to stay open without any more fill ins. I will post final numbers when I get home from school drop off in the morning. If you want a spot in any of these groups, post before 830am.

For Group 2 Holidays I'm doing a general patriotic theme (so I can use it for Remembrance Day and you can use it for Veteran's day) and I've got 2 choices -

"Remember"
or
"Not all heroes wear a cape" (my favourite, and can be used for other stuff)

For Christmas Grp 4 I also have two choices:

"Christmas time is family time"
or
"A taste of Christmas"

For Winter Group 9 I was thinking of "Fun, frost and family"

What do you ladies think? TIA!

I'm in the holidays group and the winter group. Whatever you choose is fine with me. Those are long titles though...a lot of work for you if you cut them on the Cricut and glue letters to shadows. :scared1: For that reason alone, I'd do the shorter ones.

I'm only in Grp 4 -- I like both and can use both. I like the 1st one best.

Not in grp 2, but I LOVE Not all heroes wear a cape!

I don't have a cricut - the single letters I did on my Xyron PCS, but for titles I generally use a computer font of suitable size, style and colour. So length is not such an issue as it might be!

I like the hero and cape one - I found it on a website so I can't claim any great genius!

I'll be shopping for embellishments this weekend, and working on my letters next week...would love to have all my letters done before our Thanksgiving week Disney trip. Then I'll work on the pages when we get home. :)

They look better in person - the N has a crocheted hat and a tiny punch out car and aeroplane, the R has layered snowflakes and some yummy irridescent glitter which is now ALL over my dining table despite me using a glitter tray:headache: (hoping DH doesn't notice.....) It doesn't really show up well on camera.

We had a little dusting that melted as soon as the sun came out. We were very fortunate, I know that the further north and west got clobbered. Most of the time living closer to the coast is a good thig for us. Really hoping this winter is nothing like last year!

I'm done! Woo hoo! After many issues and redos...my letters are done...

the hayride has fancy papers (gold and printed tan) with a hemp string.
the christmas has printed paper and a rhinestone.
the snowflake has sparkly white paper, blue with white flecked paper and a rhinestone
the hohoho has a green rhinestone and hohoho printed paper (who knew I had that? not me... :))

:scared1: So sorry. All 3 kids had a swim meet this weekend, so we were out 6am to 6pm each day. I have a ton of real life stuff to do YUCK. I will get this updated probably tomorrow - -I don't know it is DS8 bday tomorrow and i have nothing at all ready - -so maybe Wed. I'll have to check my other dates and make sure I don't have them on swim meet days.
