Hello all,
I have managed to get the first couple of days pictures uploaded so I thought I would start off the report. I'm sure Pooksma will be adding her own commentary as we go. So lets get to it.
First off, introduction (just in case someone new comes along and starts to read :rotfl2:)
First we have our DS, Declan. Declan is 10 and this made his sixth trip to WDW. He enjoys most rides but refuses to go Small World. The last time we went on this ride, we forced him and he wasn't happy.
Second is my fantastic dw, Pooksma. Pooksma and I have been happily married for 16 years and this was her eighth trip to WDW. She made one when she was younger with family, six with Declan and I (plus the two of us had a trip in 2008 that Declan still doesn't know about.) In real life Pooksma is a teacher
Here is a picture of the two of them from earlier this summer. Probably the last of Pooksma if she has her way. ;)

Lastly there is me, declansdad. This was my seventh trip (see above :goodvibes) and in real life I work for our provincial amateur sport federation.

On this trip we drove to Portland, Maine on August 15th and flew to Orlando on the 16th. We had a couple of days at SeaWorld before moving to Disney on the 19th.
Overall it was another great trip with lots of good times, some great memories and one or two little problems (nothing major). We had some great weather and some rain but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm.
First for this trip:
Visiting a park that wasn't WDW - SeaWorld
Staying in an off-site hotel for a couple of days
Renting a car to get around Orlando instead of using a car service
Free dining and some new restaurants.
So stay tuned and I will get the first couple of days started in a little bit. In the meantime, you can look through our pre-trip report by clicking here:

August 15
This is the day I have been waiting for; it is the day we actually get to head out on our trip. We are headed to Portland Maine for the night so we can catch our early flight the next morning. Portland is about 5 hours away but an easy drive in the summer.
We get everyone up early, get ready and pack the Jeep. We have a few appointments to take care of and then we are on the road. A stop at the bank and a stop at Tim Hortons and we are heading out of town just before noon. For those of you who don't know what Tim Horton is, it is an iconic coffee/donut shop in Canada (think Dunkin Donuts) although they have been opening up in the US. This is a must stop for some people (pooksma with us and a certain Winnipegger who will probably chime in later.
We cross the border without any problems, maybe a 10 minute wait. Quick run into the Irving in Houlton for some snacks and hit the I95. Another quick break just outside of Bangor and we are back on the road. When we get to Augusta (Maine's capital) I turn off the 95 and take the 295. I planned on making a quick stop in Freeport because Pooksma and Declan had never been there before. Just as we got there, it started to rain so we just parked at LL Bean and looked through there. We ended up with a new backpack for Declan. The first bit of back to school shopping of the trip.
Jumped back on the 295 and we were quickly in Portland headed for our home for the night, The Hampton Inn. Checked in and in our rooms around 5 pm (6 our time). We had a little rest before Declan's first big wish of the trip - Chucky Cheese.
Head over to CC in the pouring rain, order some food and Declan grabbed some tokens to play some games. It wasn't too crowded, food was so so but I did like the fact the games were all one token. We all managed to entertain ourselves a bit and after an hour and a half, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for our 4 am wake-up call.
More to come shortly.

August 16.
Wake up came early - 4 am! We had to catch the 5 am shuttle to the airport. Had time for a quick breakfast and the shuttle was ready. Surprisingly, we were the only people to take the shuttle at 5. :rotfl2:
Portland Jetport, as it is called, isn't a big airport but it was busy on this early Tuesday morning. We had did online check-in before leaving home so I just had to get one bag checked. Skipped the long line at the counter and headed for the shorter line at the self-serve kiosk. This is where our first rude person encounter happened. A business woman who was very impatient tried to jump the line and then when that didn't work tried to push people through. Turned out she as on the same flight as us and she was at the back of the plane, a completely full plane. Her rudeness got her no where.:banana:
We made it through security and had about 15 minutes before boarding. Can someone tell me why people rush the gate and not follow the zone boarding announcements? This is a pet peeve of mine and it will really get me going on the way back. The flight was a bit late leaving but we made up the time and were in Atlanta on-time. We lucked out in Atlanta with the gate, we left from the same gate that we arrived. The only problem was trying to find a place to sit. We grabbed some food from Chilli's To Go but had to sit a couple of gates away to wait for our flight.
We had a short delay leaving again, people rushed the gate once again, people took up all the overhead bin space, AGAIN!!. But we were only a short flight from Orlando and we arrived by 2 pm :banana::banana:
Time for a first for us, picking up a rental at the airport. Picked up our one bag and made our way to Level 1 for the car. Thanks to Mousesavers, I had found a code back in January for a free Emerald Club membership so we could go right out to the garage and pick our car, no waiting at the counter. Also had a code for a couple of discounts that allowed us to get this really cheap.

This was actually taken when we dropped it off but it was our only picture. we had a choice between the convertible Mustang or Sebring (Mustang seemed much cooler.) Made it out of the airport no problem and after a quick stop at Publix we were off to Springhill Suites at SeaWorld. Check-in was quick and painless and we were off to our 6th floor room. This is a very nice hotel and I would recommend it if you are looking for a place off-site. Here are a few pictures of the room:

Declan I headed down to the pool for a swim. While relaxing you could tell that the thunder and lightning wasn't far away. Shortly after that I saw the scariest bolt of lightning hit not far from the pool and I wasn't long climbing out. Just after that they got everyone out of the pool.
Next up was dinner at TGI Fridays as it was just in front of the hotel. After eating we found out that 8 people were taken from Discovery Cove to the hospital after a lightning strike. Thankfully, they were all ok and had been released from the hospital.
It had been a long day so it was time to call it a night and get some sleep. Tomorrow would bring our first ever trip to SeaWorld. (We could see Manta and Kraken from the window at the end of the hall. They looked awesome!
Later all.

Since they're both just 'cute as buttons',
(not sure where that phrase came from - I'll have to research)
and since Declan is soon going to be taller than Ma and they won't look like this much longer,
and since we won't see her in many pictures,
I just had to put this one up again.
This is a great picture of your two favorite people, Dad. :thumbsup2
Visiting a park that wasn't WDW - SeaWorld
I just had a parent at school ask me about SeaWorld, and I told her I had not been in many years. I'd love to hear your quick answer now so I can share with her. They have five children from 1st grade through about 8th. They are going to Orlando, doing possibly one Disney day, but are thinking about SeaWorld and some other things. What's your opinion of SW for the value for them?

That's scary. Florida lightning can be frightening, for sure! :scared1:

I think your friend would enjoy SeaWorld. There was lots for all ages and the Shows we saw were good. If they were willing to put in a full day they could do it in a day for sure. My favorites were Shamu (simply amazing), the Manta coaster and the dolphin and ray feedings.
The other good thing about SeaWorld is they always seem to be offering the 2nd day free so that does help with the planning.

Thanks. I wish more gate agents would enforce the zone seating assignments. It is always fun to watch the ones that do. The other thing is the airlines need to enforce their carry-on rules. Leaving Orlando was ridiculous.

I plan on getting some of the Seaworld stuff up tomorrow. Tonight Declan has a football practice and I have a soccer game so tonight is a bust. All the SeaWorld pictures are in the Disney 2011 folder on Photobucket if you want to see all them.
We did have free dining on the first day at SeaWorld but to be honest there isn't a lot of choice. We ate at the Voyageur Smokehouse on the first day. It was comparable to a counter service at Disney. One good thing was that you could go back and get water and snacks but you couldn't get it everywhere and some employees didn't seem to know where you could use it. The other problem is nothing was open until noon except for one spot at the very front of the park.
I live in the general chicago area so there isn't alot of room for a timmies near here. I just think it sounds good. I love starbucks and caribou and it sounds like those places. If you like strong coffee (like me) Timmies is not the place; it is pretty middle of the road in my opinion. Great donuts and sandwiches though.

Evening all,
No practices or games tonight so time for an update. But before that, on this first day of the NFL season, I got to see the Grey Cup today. For our friends from south of the border, it is the cup that goes to the Canadian Football League champion. Teams have been fighting for this cup for 102 years. Here is what it looks like.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/cup.jpg
Oh yah, there were a couple of Hamilton Ti-Cats cheerleaders there too.
OK, let's head back to Orlando.
August 17th
So today was our first visit to SeaWorld and we knew the one thing Declan and I wanted to Ride was Manta (Pooksma was still on the fence). Before heading our we needed to have some breakfast and get our front-of-the line passes.
First stop, 8 am - the concierge desk. Here they gave us our coupons for the passes. These were free courtesy of the hotel. They gave us coupons for both days so we wouldn't have to stand in line on day 2. They also asked us to sign up for the Marriott Vacation Club presentation. If we did it, they would give us $100 gift card. We passed on this one.
Free breakfast was next and it was a bit busy. We found a table that had a Starbucks cup sitting on one end so Declan and I grabbed the table. (Starbucks was a hotel selling point for Pooksma and she became good friends with the lady working the counter.) As soon as we set down, this lady came running over saying it was their table, she had set her cup there to save it. I didn't want to get into to it so I said we would move but it looked like nothing more than an empty Starbucks cup to us.
Quick breakfast and back up to the room but the key wouldn't work. I took the elevator back down and the clerk reprogrammed the key. Back up to the 6th floor, key doesn't work, back down to the front, clerk checks the key and says it is a good key, she have maintenance meet me at our door. Back to the 6th floor, 5 minute wait for maintenance, tries our key with no luck and no light on the lock. Uses his key to let us in and says they will need to send someone to fix the lock. We decide to try our other key that we had left in the room and it works. We tell him not to worry about it, we will just use the one key.
We grab our stuff and hurry down to catch the 9 am shuttle because there isn't another until 10:30. We could have walked but we were on the opposite side of SeaWorld from the gate. Takes abut 10 minutes to get to the park with an stop at Aquatica and one other hotel. We stop at one of the kiosks on the way to the gate to get our park and free dining passes. We get our front-of-the-line bracelets just inside the entrance.
We skipped by the Shamu picture and headed into the park. The first thing we come across is this:

This is an amazing ride! A bit scary at first with the climb and the laying on your belly position you are in but once you hit that first drop the excitement doesn't stop. The wait time was listed as 20 minutes but our bracelets got us on right away. I don't think we ever waited for a ride at SeaWorld.
Couple more Manta pictures:
This is the opening climb

We found another locker and headed to the front of the line. Pretty good ride but it was showing some wear and tear. After the first ride Pooksma retrieved the camera from the locker and Declan and I went for another journey. This time we were in the front row.

On this ride it isn't the big drop that gets you wet, it is the people on the water canons and a much smaller drop just around the corner from the big drop.
Next up we headed to the other side of the park for the Clyde and Seymour show with a stop at the Penguin Encounter along the way

August 17th - Part 2
After the penguins, we found seats for the Clyde and Seymour show. Declan wanted to be in the "Splash Zone" so we compromised on the last row of the zone. We were there in time to see the pre-show which is a pirate mime. I'm not a big fan of mimes but this guy was hilarious!

The last two pictures are of the one that seemed to follow us.
After this we decided to grab some lunch with our free dining passes. To be honest the choices were limited and the food was ok but nothing fantastic. After lunch we headed to the dolphin feeding but something would come up to stop that from happening.
Stay tuned.

That's great that you get front of the line passes there.:thumbsup2 Probably a wise decision to skip the sales pitch though.
As soon as we set down, this lady came running over saying it was their table, she had set her cup there to save it. I didn't want to get into to it so I said we would move but it looked like nothing more than an empty Starbucks cup to us.
:sad2: I guess it should be common sense and everyone should understand that a single cup on a table means it is being saved.

There is life and fun outside of Disney World! Who'da thunk it? Looks like you and Declan enjoyed your ride.
I have read that the food is less than spectacular. What about the general cleanliness? Could you tell a difference in that in comparison to a Disney park?
No food place except one opened until noon?

SeaWorld was lots of fun but it wasn't Disney. The park was clean but some of the older rides were showing there age. Disney has set a high standard and is certainly the measuring stick.

August 17th - Post Lunch
So after chowing down at the Voyager Smokehouse, we made our way to the Dolphin Feeding area. The feeding was scheduled for 1 and were were going to be about 15 minutes early. When we got there we found our longest line of the SeaWorld, probably about 100 people or more. As we waited, the afternoon shower was starting to move in. It was getting pretty dark and windy.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%202%20-%20August%2017%20SeaWorld/IMG_3882.jpg
We didn't have long to wait, the sky opened up and we were caught in the open. After a few minutes some people started to get out of line and stand under the cover at the Ray feeding area. This allowed some of us to move up through the line until we were about 10 people from the front. Woohoo! The only problem was we were soaked, not just wet but so soaked that I had to wring the water out of my shirt soaked. :laundy:. Shortly after 1, the trainer came out and said since it was still raining hard, there would be no feeding at that time. :sad1:
We waited out the rest of the rain with everyone else, watching the rays get upset that nobody was feeding them. They were swimming around splashing people. It was quite funny to watch them scare people who didn't seem to know what was going on. We weren't allowed to feed them because there was still lightning in the area.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%202%20-%20August%2017%20SeaWorld/IMG_3892.jpg
After the rain stopped, we decided to walk around the dolphin cove since there the rides were still not open. We could see the dolphins swimming around and then we discovered an underwater viewing area for the dolphins.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%202%20-%20August%2017%20SeaWorld/IMG_3920.jpg

They still hadn't re-opened the rides so we found the sea lion feeding area on the other side of the park. For $5 you got a tray with 4 fish you could toss down to the sea lions and hopefully the birds wouldn't get them.

The next dolphin feeding was scheduled for 3:15 so we once again crossed the park to get in line. This time we were the 3rd family in line because we were about 45 minutes early. Around 3, the came out and told us that everyone that went into the feeding area had to pay to feed the dolphins. If you weren't feeding the fish, you had to go to the viewing area. They then let us in to pay and wait to line up. They had some basic rules you had to follow and then the let us up to the wall to feed. It was pretty cool.

Here is a short video from the feeding area. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScUR7oglljg) The first voice you hear is not pooksma. :rotfl2:
Since this is another of the feedings in an open area, you had to keep an eye on the birds. There were always egrets ( I think that is what they were) around. I was finished feeding so I stepped back from the wall to give the family next to me some more room. Out of the corner of my eye, i saw this huge bird come diving over the top of the patio umbrella beside Pooksma, down in front of Declan and grab a fish out of the hand of the father that was standing next to me. He didn't even see the bird until after it was gone. It was pretty funny to see.
After the feeding we decided it was time to head back to the hotel. As we were headed out they we just getting ready to re-start the rides. Took a few pictures of the flamingos and some at the front of the park. We waited about 20 minutes for the bus and made our way pack for a swim and rest.

First time we ate here and the first time we drove ourselves to DTD. It was weird being there and not actually be staying at disney. As we were eating, Pooksma recognized brookelizabeth and her family sitting at the next table so she introduced herself and said hello before we left.

Arrive early for the dolphin feeding and watch out for birds. :thumbsup2
Bring ponchos! ;)

Don't expect it to be Disney...got it! LOL
It seems like I will need to bring some cash to pay for all the little extras at SeaWorld.
I bet the rescued manatee is much happier and will get nursed back to health.

I'm sure I looked pretty impressed standing there as the water dripped off my ball cap and ran down my back. :rotfl2: You can still tell Declan's hair was a bit wet in the picture of him in front of te dolphin tank and that was at least 30 minutes later. His hair usually dries in about 10 minutes.

Yes there was an nest with an egg in it. There was usually a flamingo sitting on it but I think I caught her as she stood up to adjust things. There was another young flamingo there as well. It was a light gray in colour as it hadn't developed the pink colouring yet.
You do need to have some cash with you for the feedings, not like staying on-site and charging things to your room.
The food was ok. There are a couple of sit-down restaurants that you can use on their all-day free dining plan so I can't really comment on those. The places we used were comparable to a quick service at WDW but there was usually something there you couldn't get on the plan. For example, at the restaurant we went to on the first day, you couldn't get the baby back ribs.

Manta is a must do. If shame helps you can tell him we watched a woman that had to be in her late 60s ride it and she loved it.

As we were eating, Pooksma recognized brookelizabeth and her family sitting at the next table so she introduced herself and said hello before we left.
How fun! Very coincidental to cross paths in such a huge place. :goodvibes

The underwater Dolphin viewing area is my son's favorite part of Sea World. He could stay in there for hours.

Just a couple of "Mom's View" points:
(1) I was VERY impressed with the cleanliness of Springhill. (Always a worry when comparing to WDW resorts)
(2) Manta was SCARY:scared1: I had to close my eyes at the climb every time. The rest was a rush though.
(3) Food was mheh. I am sure its because I was already imagining Boma and Marrakesh (amongst others)
More Mom's views later.:thumbsup2

Coming up!
Been a busy time here this past week. Declan is playing tackle football this year and that has taken up a lot of time recently. He had a jamboree on Saturday, attended two basketball try-outs on Sunday, football game on Monday and a practice tonight. We get a night off tomorrow before practice again on Thursday. Luckily I have a soccer game tomorrow night, just to make sure I don't get bored by sitting still too long.
Here are a few pictures of our gridiron warrior.

Now on to an update!
August 18 - SeaWorld Day 2
We were up around the same time, had breakfast without any table issues, had a nice talk with the Starbucks lady and made it back into the room without any key problems. Caught the shuttle and made our way to the park, got our front of the line bracelets and headed for............MANTA!!!:thumbsup2

Started with the turtle area near Manta.

great pics of delcan playing football! You guys all sound like your super busy but it also sounds like everyone is enjoying themselves. What is delcan's favorite sport that he is currently playing or trying out to play? ok now for the update. Love all the pretty dolphin pictures. I got this amazing opportunity winter break when i was a sophmore in high school to swim with dolphins in mexico. It was so much fun and now i have this huge soft spot for anything dolphin-related. Love all the sky view pics. I saw disney in a few of those pics which seemed like a great display of the future of your trip. I also enjoyed getting a picture from up high of each roller coaster. we have a six flags that is about a hour from our house and they have this ride that goes up super high and it is great for getting pics of each land in the park. that is what the sky view reminded me of.

I have an observation/evaluation next week, and the book I happen to be using is about turtles. It would really help me out if this guy could come and visit my class next Wednesday. ::yes:: It would be a rockin' awesome visual aid, wouldn't you think? :)
Good luck to the mighty man and his team. Hope he enjoys the experience. I know you guys are having fun watching him. Drew played a little football, but he was more interested in basketball and soccer. The football coach tried to get Trent to play, but Trent's basketball coach was opposed to that idea, so he stuck with basketball and soccer. He really enjoyed having a sport where he could dress up crazy and be in the stands supporting his friends rather than always being in the game.

Declan's favourite and best sport is soccer. He has been playing since he was 4 and has improved every year. After that he alsoplays basketball but this is his first year to try-ouot for a competitive travel team. This is is first year playing tackle football and he loves it so far. He is still gtting use to the contact but he hasn't completely shied away from it. He is a gamer but he is still trying to learn how to hit and tackle. Because he is so tall, he usually is paired up with the bigger kids who are a year older.
It was pretty cool to see Disney from the Tower. You can see the Characters in Flight Ballon if you look closely.

The young flamingo was pretty careful around the adults. They were surprisingly aggressive at times and the young one made sure to stay out of their way.

update time, let's finish off SeaWorld.
At the end of our last update, we were about to head over to Shamu Stadium to see the One Ocean show. We were headed to the first show of the day and we arrived a few minutes before they let people into the stadium so we were able to get in a short line. Declan, again, wanted to be in the splash zone so we compromised on a higher row but still in the zone.
The pre-show for this was a video showing some of the things SeaWorld does to help rescue and rehabilitate animals. It was a nice show.
The show itself was incredible and very moving. The whales were amazing to watch. :thumbsup2

After the show we headed over to Wild Arctic. Again the passes took us right on to the ride with no wait. The entrance for the front-of-the-line passes wasn't always easy to find, usually off to the side somewhere. This one had us entering through a couple of doors and there were no attendants around. We just kept walking until we found someone.
This ride starts out like Star Tours but it is much rougher. After "landing" you walk through an area that is suppose to be an Arctic research station.

Before heading to get a bite to eat, we rode Journey to Atlantis and Manta again plus Declan and I did the Ray feeding. It was pretty cool!:thumbsup2 Because their mouth is on the underside of their body, you had to put a fish between your fingers and stick your hand underwater. They would then swim over your hand and take the fish as they went by. A few people didn't realize this and were holding the food like they were trying to get a dog to jump. Didn't really stop the rays, they tried to climb the wall.

Other than some lunch at a place called Mango Joes and some t-shirt shopping for Declan we were pretty much done with SeaWorld. It was a fun couple of days and we would go back. There are some shows that we didn't see but I don't think I would make a point of going every trip.
After getting back to the resort, we headed out to an outlet mall in Lake Buena Vista and did some shopping. We made it back to the resort in time to hop in the pool before the skies opened up again. It was rainy pretty hard so we decided to use room service (Pizza Hut) and eat in the room.
Next up, we move to POFQ!!

It was amazing to watch the killer whales perform. They also seemed to have a very strong bond with their trainers.

The ride itself was good but very bumpy. The walk around part was nice an cool. The theming was well don as well. Would have like to have seen more of the polar bears.

Actually is a bit of both but I let him take the credit. :lmao:

Ride wise there isn't a lot but they are all close together, except for Wild Arctic. The park isn't that big so you can quickly get from one side to the other. With the timing of the shows and trying to work in rides you do wander around a bit.

I am seriously behind! I haven't been able to get on here all week!
Great shots of Declan playing football, he's sure keeping the household hopping isn't he! When Jas used to do Taekwondo we were out of the house 4 times a week just for that!
Love those shots from that tower! Disney is actually pretty close to Seaworld isn't it? Now, question, do the trainers not get in the water anymore with the whales? I wondered that since that trainer was killed a few years ago. I can't wait to visit here again, it's been 7 years, time to go back!!

He is having a great time playing football. I missed his game this morning but I was given the game summary. Four tackles, one blocked kick and one interception, unfortunately they haven't figured out the offence part of the game yet. They don't move the ball well.
The trainers don't get in the water but they are all over the stadium and use hand signals to interact with the whales. It is something to watch.
May get another update done this afternoon. The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival is going on here this week and with have tickets for a show tonight.

August 19th - Moved to POFQ and a brush with a large group of celebrities.
So this was the day we moved back to our home. I always like arriving at the resort on the bus and hearing the announcement that finishes with "Welcome Home".
We had everything packed up the night before so there wasn't a lot to worry about in the morning. We had breakfast at the hotel and packed up the car. Our first stop was at a Publix in order to replenish our stock. Surprisingly enough I had convinced both Pooksma and Declan to try beef jerky and they decided they liked it. Declan liked it so much that we needed more. So we picked that up and a few more snacks and jumped back on the road for the short drive to WDW.
I gave the camera to Pooksma so that she could get the gates as we drove through. Since we never drive ourselves, this was going to be a first. Before that she told Declan to look cool.

We made it to POFQ by 11 am, check in was quick but the room wasn't ready. We left our bags at the baggage claim and headed for the Car Care Center to gas up and return the car. By noon, we were in a National Rent-a-Car shuttle heading for DHS.
We were in the park by 12:30 or so and noticed that the tow truck was back. It wasn't there at Christmas and this has been a traditional picture for us. We quickly grabbed a new picture.

As we made it up to the building we noticed a group of people with camera and lights following a group. They were all waiting to get on the ride but were stopped in the fast pass entrance as we went by. This group of celebrities would pass us shortly while we waited in line and Declan got to high five all of them. There were over 50 of them, here is a picture with Declan, see if you can figure out who they were.

Well they all were wearing blue t-shirts so they blended in to the background of this part of the queue but they were monsters. They all were the same gender.

We are going to print some off from this year's stop at Crystal Palace and take some from the first Crystal Palace visit in 2004 and frame them. I try to get some similar shots each trip we take.
Hope to do another update tonight or tomorrow.

OK, In think there are two of you out there waiting to find out who these celebrities were. Well they were all females, fairly certain they were all single, and they all owned a sash.
The Miss America contestants were in the parks filming some promos for the pageant. We got to wait in line at Star Tours while they did some filming there. We were standing by C3PO when they all can running by and Declan decided that it would be a good idea to high five 52 fairly attractive young women (and one HUGE bodyguard). Pretty smart boy I think. Unfortunately, as you can see by that one picture) it was tough to get a picture of them moving by us with very little light to help out.
After they went by we started to move again and we soon boarding our flight. This redo is fantastic, if you haven't tried it in awhile, go back.
After the ride we went in search of Phineus and Ferb. Declan is a huge fan and this was on his must do list for the trip. We found them near the exit of Muppets and got in line. It was very hot and the line was about 30 minutes long. They took a couple of quick breaks during that time but they were gone no longer than 2 or 3 minutes each time.
Some pictures from around the queue and Declan with the boys:

There was a scary incident while we were in line. We were almost to the front when we heard a scream from behind us. A little girl was overcome by the heat and passed out. A couple of guests quickly came to the mothers aid and got her under some shade and started to cool her off. The CMs jumped into to help out and within about 5 minutes there were some EMTs there to help check her over.
After the pictures we decided that we would head back to the resort to see if our room was ready. They hadn't sent us a text yet but we thought we would chance it anyway. On the way to the front I found another view of ToT that I hadn't noticed before.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%204%20-%20August%2019%20WDW/IMG_4256.jpg
We made it to the bus and while we were waiting the family with the little girl that passed out got on the bus. They sat down next to us and I started chatting with the dad. The little girls was doing much better and they were getting her to drink as much water as they could. Turned out they were from the UK and we compared DL Paris with WDW. He told me it was actually cheaper for them to come to WDW for a couple of weeks than it was to spend 4 days in Paris. HE also said that 2 days was enough time to do spend at DL Paris.
Back at the resort there was still no room ready so we grabbed some lunch and waited and waited and waited. Finally around 4 pm I checked and the room was ready. We had booked a water view and were in building 6, room 6229.

Along the way, we had some showers and for the first time we got out the ponchos. When we got to the UK, it was about 7:30 so we went to check in. The counter told us we were suppose to be there at 6:55 and we were too late. They checked and told us they could get us in but it might be a 40 minute wait. No problem, took our buzzer and 20 minutes later, we were seated.
This was Declan's first trip on the adult dining plan so we weren't sure how this was going to go. He and Pooksma both ordered the shepherds pie with lamb and they loved it. I went with the steak and fish, very good. Before dessert it was time for Illuminations. This was the reason we booked this ADR; the UK patio is a great spot to watch.

No guarantees on the patio but even if you are inside, they have a spot where you can go stand to watch..

No it was our mess up. Our original asking time was 7:30 but when the ADRs were actually made that was the only one that we didn't get the time we asked for. Unfortunately we forgot about that but all was good in the end.

Hello to our two or three readers; it's been a bit so I'm going to try to get a couple of updates in.
August 20 - Disappointment and Happiness!
So we are set to start our second day at WDW. Today the plan was to get up early and head to MK for our 8:10 ADR (I double checked the time) at Crystal Palace. CP is a tradition for us. We haven't eaten here on every trip that Declan has been with us. :lmao: Usually it is breakfast or dinner but I think we have had one lunch.
We left POFQ for the bus at 7 am, thinking we may have to wait a few minutes but we didn't. The bus was there and we were at the gates of MK by 7:30. Before leaving the room, I took our usual "start-of-the-day" picture of Declan. This is an important picture for the purposes of this update.

We were let into the park and checked in at CP by 7:50 and seated by 8 am

Notice anything different in this picture of Declan?
No pin lanyard! He had taken it off on BTMRR and left it in the pocket in the car. Declan is a pin trader and this lanyard had some pins he had brought with him to trade as well as some new keepers he (we) had just bought. The lanyard itself was a Year of a Million Dreams lanyard that we had got on a previous trip.
Pooksma and Declan continued on to SM while I went back to check for the pins. I talked to a CM who check a some trains while I waited but nothing was found. She suggested coming back in an hour or two.
They rode SM with as a walk-on and we also grabbed FP so we could ride it again later.
We started back to PP and saw this talking trash can.

We rode PP and walk into Philharmagic without needing the FPs. We checked on the pins again (still nothing) and went to Tom Sawyer Island. This was a first for us.

It looks like a fun day of hitting some headline attractions at the MK! I've never had breakfast at CP, but I look forward to our ADR before the park opens during our upcoming trip!:woohoo:
I hope Declan gets his pin lanyard back. I always try to avoid putting things in the pockets on the rides because I'm always afraid I'll walk off without something too.:headache:

The best part of breakfast at CP is booking as early as you can and getting to walk up Main Street without a crowd. It is very easy top get some great pictures without any people in them.

Yes he took it off at the restaurant but put it back on when we left so that he could trade pins with the CMs. I don't remeber if he did any trading before BTMRR or not.

The whole day was back and forth between the big rides. The crowds were pretty good and got better as the week went on.
I'll finish up the pin lanyard mystery tonight. I expect Declan to be wiped tonight so he should be asleep early. He has a cross country meet this afternoon, stop by football practice to complete is pass, run and kick drills, and finally head to his last basketball try-out. Heck maybe I will be asleep early too. :lmao:

We had no real wait for POTC and we got to see the new opening with Blackbeard. At Christmas there was nothing at the beginning except the fog.
Before we rode Splash again, we decide to check back at BTMRR one more time to see if the pins and lanyard had been found. No luck!
It was getting close to 3 so we decided to use the Splash FPs and head back to the resort. As we boarded our log, you could tell it was getting close to afternoon storm time. We had a bit of drizzle as we got to the end but as we made our way to the gift shop, the skies opened up. It started to rain like it had never rained before. We found a seat on the porch and started to wait it out, along with everyone else. No one left, even the people with ponchos (I left ours in the room). We waited for about an hour before we ventured out.
On the way out we decided to stop at City Hall to check one more time. We talked to a different CM (Molly was her name) this time and she check their lost and found and called back to BTMRR. As we waited, we chatted with her a bit and she was writing things down on a form. The CMs from BTMRR called back and told her there were no pins to be found. You could tell Declan was disappointed but he was doing his best not to show it. Molly ripped up the form she had been filling out and started filling out a few more. She sad she felt bad and gave Declan a form that let us all on the ride of our choice, another that would get us all a drink and another for a popcorn each. And there was one more form she gave Declan, it got him this:

It was a certificate that got him a new lanyard and starter pin set. He picked the Nerds set which worked out because he was looking for these pins while he was trading.
After finish up with our gifts from Molly we went back to thank her once again. If you ever get a chance to talk to Molly at City Hall, tell her Declan says hi.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%205%20-%20August%2020%20WDW/IMG_4538.jpg
We made it back to POFQ around 6 and ended our day.
Later all.

We thought we saw someone wearing it at EPCOT the next day but we could make sure. The Year of a Million Dreams lanyards were pretty rare, especially since they had to be given to you.

So we decided to head out for "Ohana around 5:30. The plan was to take the EPCOT or MK bus, whichever came first, and then take the monorail to the Poly. Mk bus came first so we jumped on. We arrived at the Poly and checked in for dinner around 6:15. They moved the check in booth since our last visit and there was huge line but it turned out to be got people without ADRs.
As we waited we looked around the lobby area.

After Wishes we headed for a ride on Space Mountain (very cool at night :lmao:) and then headed for Adventureland. We had never been on Jungle Cruise at night so we wanted to try it. We waited maybe five minutes before boarding our river boat.

After returning from our cruise, cruised the pirate world on POTC and then rode the rails on BTMRR. We finished up the night at HM. There was not one there so we got to take our time going through the new queue and the new ending is pretty funny.

Looks like much fun at 'Ohana. :)
It was odd having the check-in stand on the other side of the lobby, wasn't it?
Main Street at night is so pretty.
I feel safe with Sheriff Declan and Sheriff Dad on patrol. :thumbsup2 Cute picture.
Ma, you look lovely. I understand the not liking pictures thing, but you have no worries at all.

The new location of the check-in counter did throw us and so did the huge line. Luckily the people in front of the line told us it was for people without ADRs. They did get seated near us but we were just about done with our meal when they came in.
Glad we can make you feel safe Maam.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We had our family dinner yesterday just before watching the Habs beat the Jets (sorry Geodoc). To our American friends, I am hoping to be off on your Thanksgiving as well (there is always a NFL game or two to watch. :goodvibes)
So back to the report. The date is August 22 and we are heading to AK for the day. We had an ADR at Yak & Yeti for 2:30 so we wanted to arrive early and get lots in before that. This was also the day where the weather channel became a big part of our daily routine.
We arrived at AK by 9 and I made the dash to EE for FPs while Pooksma and Declan headed for the Safari. Somehow I managed to beat them there and waited about 5 minutes or so before they came strolling along. Apparently they stopped to talk to the CMs with the displays on the way through the Oasis.
The line was at the end of the queue and it was posted as a 30 minute wait. It ended up being about 40 minutes but this was one of the only lines we waited in so no worries. it was also early enough to see lots of animals and they were all fairly active.

After getting back from our 2 week safari that was once again cut short by those evil poachers, we started our trek to Asia so that we could search for the elusive Yeti.
Along the way we came across some nice rest stops.

Soon we were in sight of the mountain we would need to climb to find the Yeti.

We used our FPs with great success, we found the Yeti. To be sure it was him we used the single rider line to check again. Waited maybe 5 minutes and we all ended up on the same train. :cool1:
I'll be back later with the rest of the day at AK including a fantastic, never seen before showing of FOTLK.

I'm hoping to get some of that single rider line mojo when we go. It would be awesome to hop on EE a few times in just a few minutes.:thumbsup2

It was nice to see the lion get up and move around. The cheetahs were up and playing around as well but I couldn't get a good shot of them. The Yeti was actually working too.
Single rider lines can be great or they can be a pain. First time I tried one was on RnRC and after getting past the recording studio, I waited about 45 minutes to get on the ride.

:lmao: I was actually being sarcastic. Must be the camera angle, but i thought the lion was just chilling up there on his rock.
The yeti actually moved???? :scared1:
I've never tried single rider, but with DW being pregnant, I'm sure I will this time. From what I've read, it looks like Test Track and RnR can be extremely hit or miss by going single rider, but I don't read as many horror stories about EE. I hope it works out for me!

LOL, actually he was just chillin on the front side but we when got around to the back he had started to walk around. This is only the second time I have seen the male lion moving around. The first time he was getting "active" with the female lion. :lmao:
The Yeti was moving, it was incredible.

OK, the pool has been taken down and put away, the deck furniture was put away, and another night of football is complete. I guess I can finish off the rest of the day.
--------------------------------
So after EE, we headed for FOTLK and after getting push out of the way by some rude people, we made our way into the theatre. we were wondering what section we would get this time as we entered. Some CMs were talking and joking as we passed so I started talking to one. WE seemed to hit it off and next thing we know she grabbed my arm and started to look around for a place for us to sit and we ended up in the front row of the warthog section. Score!!
As we were waiting for the show to start, Declan was admiring the pins that an older gentleman sitting behind us had. After comparing trading stories, he gave Declan a rare pin and asked for nothing in return. A very nice gesture.
Time to start the show and this was our view.

After leaving FOTLK we had a bit of time before our ADRs so we took in It's Tough to be a Bug followed by another trek through the Himalayas on EE

We got a bit wet but not as bad as the people on the ride with us. And the wonders of Dri-Fit helped us dry off quickly.
It was time for our "first" visit to Yak & Yeti. It was a bit busy but we didn't wait long. Our seats were the greatest but they were ok. Not sure what we ordered but I think Declan had ribs, Pooksma had steak and shrimp and I had beef and broccoli. Declan added a Shirley Temple to his meal. :lmao:

The food and service is pretty good here and I would go back again. I would try and sit upstairs at the front if I had a choice.
After lunch we said good-bye to AK and headed back to the resort around 4.
At the resort, we did some laundry and had a rest. Our plan was to go to DHS and do a couple of rides and catch the late showing of Fantasmic. Before we left the room, Declan said he wasn't feeling well but wanted to go anyway. We made it to the park around 8.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%207%20-%20Aug%2022%20%20%20-%20AK/IMG_5047.jpg

Unfortunately we got just about to the door to enter the inside when Declan said he really needed to go so we headed back to the resort. On the way out, I picked up one of those black light string things that Declan wanted. When we got it back to the room, it wouldn't work.
Up next, a quiet day and dealing with the string thing.

As we were waiting for the show to start, Declan was admiring the pins that an older gentleman sitting behind us had. After comparing trading stories, he gave Declan a rare pin and asked for nothing in return. A very nice gesture.
That's cool! Probably helped take a little bit more of the sting away from losing his lanyard.

Glad you had a good Thanksgiving! Turkey dinners are awesome! :goodvibes
I just got all caught up and I'M sorry Declan's lanyard was never found.
It was so nice of Molly to do something to cheer him up.
I hope he didn't loose any pins that were his favorites. Poor little guy.
I wish I had one of those Year of a Million Dreams lanyards to give him.
We had two incidents where we had items returned on this past trip.
My DMom left her purse the first day in a cab & she set her camera down in the food court on another day.
I was so thankful and relieved that someone was so kind as to turn both of these in and not keep them. Thank heavens! Loosing all those pics would have been aweful.
I wish you had a more thoughtful person find his lanyard.
We enjoyed SeaWorld and I agree that it isn't Disney but it was worth seeing.
We had a different Mime but he was just as funny.
Didn't do Manta or Kraken but we all went on Journey to Atlantis once. And that will be fine for me.
The feeding stations were fun and I was happy Lexi and I got to feed the dolphins.
You were right the food wasn't special. I loved the slush though! LOL
The shows are fantastic!
We had lunch at Yak n' Yetti for the first time too. We sat upstairs and the place was full of very cool and authentic details.
My DMom loved her salmon but Lexi and I didn't care much for our meals.
I was surprized to see the check in at 'Ohana was moved too.
Loved our meal there as always!
I even tried the infamous Lapu Lapu...that is one very strong cocktail. Whew!
Warthog! Too funny! What a magical moment to be picked!
They must stick all us Canadians there cause we were in that section too. LOL
I enjoyed looking at your pics...brings back happy memories of not so long ago. :cloud9:

Just adding in here that I don't think I will ever be able to see FOTLK the same again. It was such an amazing experience sitting right at ground level and having everyone so close.:worship::worship:
Loved seeing Devine again. One of THE coolest encounters at AK.
Yak and Yeti was great food but man was there food! Really DH and I could have shared one plate.

Welcome back, glad you had a great trip.
Don't worry about the lanyard, Pooksma and I still have ours but he did lose a couple of really cool pins.
Pooksma and I ate the Yak & Yeti on the trip we don't talk about. We were seated upstairs by a window overlooking the park. It was a much better seat.
Glad you got your stuff back. It is a terrible feeling when you lose things on vacation.

Real life update.
Our little football player ended his season a little prematurely last night. he will be in a cast with a broken arm for 6 weeks. I am home with him today and other than a bright orange cast from his hand to just above his elbow, he seems pretty normal. No pain and he hasn't stopped eating since we got up. :rotfl2:

I just found your TR. We were there almost the same time 17-20 HRH at Universal and 21-28 at the Poly well ended up being the 30th thanks to hurricane Irene!!!
My DS had a very similiar problem to your DS. He forgot his favorite Red Sox hat on BTMR. I went back to check and no hat. CM told me to check at City hall on way out- No hat. The City Hall CM told us it may have been sent to Lost and Found at TTC. We were staying at the Poly so the next day DS and I took a walk over there not expecting it to really be there. I prepared DS so he wouldn't be too disappointed. But it WAS there!!! I couldn't believe it! It was a good day :)
Can't wait to read more.

Sorry to hear about his broken arm. My DS's friend broke his leg last year playing football. My younger DS can't wait to play football!! (neither can DH lol) We won't let him until 7th grade b/c he plays hockey and they are both demanding sports. Now he would have to play pop warner (practices and games on weekends) and it would conflict too much with hockey. In middle school-practices and games are right after school so he would be able to do both :)

Welcome!!
We called Lost and Found a couple of days later but no luck. I'm jealous about your Poly stay. We had three days there a few years ago and thought is was a great resort.

We had a few conflicts with basketball but we don't have to worry about that now. At least until after Christmas when soccer starts again.

August 23
Today was going to be a slow day but I still managed to take over 170 photos. Man what did we do before digital photography!
We slept in a bit, had some breakfast in the room while checking the latest weather updates on the hurricane. She was still forecast to be 100 miles offshore with the edge coming close to Orlando. I also started checking with Delta to see if they were making any flight changes. So far everything was still good.
We decided to spend the morning at DTD and do a bit of shopping and grab some lunch before returning to POFQ. Our evening was going to be at EPCOT with a real first at Marakesh.
I should step back and explain some of theses "firsts" I keep referring to for some of the readers who may be new to our reports. In 2008, Pooksma and I took an adults only trip to WDW. WE didn't tell Declan we were going and he still doesn't know. We plan to tell him when he gets married. So some of first times are not really first times.
We took a boat to DTD and wandered around for a bit. I think the only real shopping was some pins and an Ireland rugby shirt.
waiting for the boat.

While waiting for the boat we found out about the earthquake on the East Coast. When we got back to the room we checked out CNN and found out it was felt all the way up here. Later Pooksma was speaking with her Dad and they were watching the reports of some of the government buildings in our downtown swaying back and forth. We have the odd small shake around here but nothing like that.
Soon we were on our way back to POFQ.

Back at the resort our time was spent relaxing, checking the weather home, swimming and trying to get the string thing to work (with no success).
We headed to EPCOT around 6 but I stopped at the Concierge desk to see what our options were to return the broken string thing that was purchased at a kiosk and with no receipt. I was told to bring it to them and they would send a runner in the morning to exchange it. Score!
At EPCOT we headed to the WS through Canada. Yea for Home!!!

We headed back to check in for the ADR and stood in line with some more rude people and some people who didn't understand the concept of personal space. We checked in and waited probably 20 minutes past our booked time. The waiting area was very crowded and they don't use the buzzers here.
The restaurant it self was one big room with two levels (higher on each side). The staff was very friendly and it was quick. We all ended up with the same thing, chicken kabobs with olive salad and couscous. It was excellent.
Declan grabbed the camera again.

After a great meal we opted for a few rides while everyone else waited for Illuminations. We hit Test Track, Mission Space (well Declan and I did) and Soarin.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%208%20-%20August%2023%20-%20DTD%20and%20EPCOT/IMG_5197.jpg
MS was a walk on, TT was about 15 minutes and Soarin was the typical 40 to 60 minutes in the most boring queue there is. We also ran into a family with two boys who were way to tired to still be in the park. Started with a melt-down followed by the grand mother deciding she would carry one past the people in line. Luckily the grand father and others were not going to follow and asked her to come back. She wouldn't but it didn't get her any further ahead because she had to wait for them once we got past the first gate.

Back at the resort I took the string thing to the front desk but the concierge desk was closed and the CM at the check-in desk had no idea what I was talking about. I decided I would try again in the morning but in the meantime I wanted a few night-time pictures from POFQ.

All of the pictures are great, but I'm especially appreciative of the Downtown Disney ones, as we did not get a chance to spend time there on this trip. Working around naps and bedtimes for little ones without a variety of adults to trade them back and forth with meant I always had to be there for the naps and the bedtimes, obviously.
Looking at your World Showcase pictures - I was just there on Tuesday, so I could still very easily 'be there'. I took a picture for my Canadian DIS friends of a sweatshirt that said Canadians Rock!, I believe. I'll have to look at my pictures when I get them loaded.

I am here. How nice that the CM gave your son thee new Laynard. she is a VIP CM, you can tell by the vest she is wearing.
I just sent a package to NB, Canada. I sold a pair of jeans on EBay. they were $96 jeans that I paid $29. I only bought one pair, but the company charged me for 2 and sent me two. My son told me to sell them and I did, I got $64. Cost me $11 to mail them, to your fine country.

Checking in on the rockin' Canadian part of the DIS family. Hope all is well. I know you guys are as busy as we are - always here, there, and everywhere! I hope to get more DIS time during the Thanksgiving break, but until them, it's going to be just a few minutes in the mornings and a few minutes on some nights. School definitely has the lion's share of my time right now.
Hope Declan is doing okay with his healing. I know he hates not being able to play.

I was observing at the Canadian Paralympic Committee's annual congress so I didn't get out in Ottawa to much this trip. I did get to a nice restaurant called the Empire Grill. I would recommend it if you ever get the chance.
Declan is doing great, he hasn't complained at all and even managed to go to one basketball practice. He didn't do much but some one-handed shooting but it all helps.

OK, I have been slacking off so I better get another update on here.
I hope none of you are snowed in today. We have some friends that are trying to get to WDW today and have been stuck at the Orlando airport since 10 am this morning. Last word was they were about to board so we're crossing our fingers for them (even though we are jealous).
August 24 - almost to the end. :sad1:
Today's big highlight would be our fantastic dinner at Boma with some great friends from the 'Peg. OK who can tell me where that is? You can't guess if you live there. :lmao:
Our morning plan was to head to DHS but first it was time to check on the hurricane. She was starting to move further off the coast so it was starting to look like we would get out. The concern now became beating it home.
First stop was the Concierge desk to change Declan's non-working string thing. They sent me to the gift shop even though they didn't carry them. One of the CMs thought they had them at the Riverside gift shop so they called over. They had them and would put one away so we could pick it up.
Off to the bus we went and were at DHS by 9 am. I made the FP dash to TSM while pooksma and Declan went to sign up for the Jedi Academy. Some pictures of my wait.

Made in through the line and had 12:05 FPs. This line is much more organized then it used to be, seemed to move quicker.
I made my way to the old Sounds Dangerous area to check on the family. They were still in line to sign up so I waited outside. I got to listen to a woman give a CM a sob story to get a better time and that one of her kids had to fight Darth Maul or he would be devastated. :headache: Man give it up. Unfortunately it worked. Eventually they got signed up and we had to be back at 11:20 for the 11:45 show.
We headed to RnR to go stand-by with about a 30 minute wait.

After the ride, we didn't think we would have enough time for TOT so we headed back to check in for the Academy. Along the way we stopped at the Villains Shop and the Hat for some pins. I'm guessing that the ' in the 'Peg stands for the same thing (or close to it) as a certain honey-eating Disney bear.

More of August 24th
So we left on on our way to Sounds Dangerous to check in for the Jedi Academy. At one point, they ask for every one but one parent to head over to the stage area to get spots while one person stayed with the young Jedi trainee. I stayed with Declan and we were sent over about 10 minutes after Pooksma.
Shortly after getting into the stage area the younger group went to the stage while the older group stayed on the ground and received their robes.

The funniest part of the show was a little guy on the stage fighting Vader. He thought it was real and the look on his face was so intense you go see him trying to put the light saber through Vader.
After Declan received his certificate we headed inside to ride Star Tours again. Declan thought he had the new system figured out and asked for the last row but it was a little more random than he thought.
We then used our FPs for TSM.

After TSM we decided to do the art glass at the Animation Studio. We then rode TOT as a walk on in the middle of the afternoon before heading back to the Resort.

On the way back to POFQ it started to poor and I mean poor. The water coming off the tires of the vehicles was amazing. When we got back to the resort it was still raining but we needed to go to POR to get the string thing. Declan and grabbed some ponchos and started along the path to POR. The path was like wading a river, at least 2 inches of water.
There wasn't a problem making the exchange and they have one fantastic gift shop. It puts the one at POFQ to shame. We grabbed some lunch before heading back. We tried to get a boat but they shut them down just as we headed for the dock.
Around 6 pm we headed to AKL via an EPCOT bus and switched there to an AKL bus. Our good friends were waiting for us in the lobby. We were having dinner with some Dis friends for Winnipeg. We met them a couple of years ago and stayed in touch. Since our trips overlapped we decided ot meet for diner. You may know them as Queenofallthings, Purplepeg, Geodoc and their families.
We got there early enough to look around the Savannah, they showed us their DVC suites and then we checked in for dinner.

After a great meal, we headed out to the pool and the kids all went for a swim and watched the movie while the adults sat around and chatted away.
To get back to the resort we hope a bus to DTD and then to POFQ, we managed to get back by midnight.
Next up our last full day and an entertaining breakfast.

Great update. Sadly we have never experienced the Jedi Academy. With 2 little girls we usually pause for a moment to watch and then walk on. I wouldn't have a clue what was going on anyway.

The Jedi Academy looks like a lot of fun. I wish that would have been there when I was Declan's age. I'd do it when we later this month, but I assume they'd frown on a 30 year old trying to grab a light saber and go after Vader. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I love that shot of all of us at dinner....it was a fantastic night! Here's to hoping we have a future trip that overlaps:thumbsup2

Maybe someday you'll get the chance. I'm sure Brooklynn would have a blast.

There is always that chance since we both like to go in the summer. You never know, one of these days I might have a meeting in Winnipeg or you can show your families your old stomping grounds on the East Coast.

Sounds like a very enjoyable evening. :goodvibes
Maybe when I get some grandsons I will be forced to learn about Star Wars things.
Oh, wait, I said forced.
I already know something, and I don't even have grandsons yet! :woohoo:
There is something about 'the force' in Star Wars, I am pretty sure. I am hoping it's a good force, but I make no guarantees.
Here is my synopsis of Star Wars people: The brown coats are good guys. I know that because Declan wouldof course be the good guy, right?!?!? The black covered guy is the bad guy, the white soldiers are bad guys....I think that is all correct. The little green guy - not sure if he is good or bad. The small robot = good. The gold robot = good. The huge brown hairy guy - not sure. Where they all live, I do not know. Somewhere in outer space.
And then there is a fun ride about this at Hollywood Studios. That, I know for a fact! :thumbsup2

OK I need to get a bit of an update in here. I will be away in Toronto for the next few days so I need to give all four of you something. :lmao:
So on to August 25 - our last full day.:sad1:
Today we were starting off with breakfast at Whispering Canyon. We have had dinner here before but never breakfast. We were hoping that it would be as fun and we weren't disappointed.
The ADR was for 9 am so we took the bus to MK and then hoped aboard a boat to Wilderness Lodge.

We entered MK and headed for Space Mountain.

But first we found Mary Poppins. She is Pooksma all-time favourite character and we have only ran into her once (at the GF) and she was a bit of a disappointment. This one was bang on. She had a great conversation with Declan about his future career and wondered if had considered becoming a chimney sweep.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/declansdad/Disney%202011/Day%2010%20-%20August%2025%20-%20MK%20and%20EPCOT/IMG_5429.jpg

Space Mountain was a walk-on and when we exited we came out into a rain squall so we decided another ride into space would be a good call. Turned out is was. As we were loading our launch vehicle, there were FPs laying on each seat of the car. SCORE! So that would make it three rides in a row.:banana::banana:
Next up we headed into the Laugh Floor.

First real life - less than a week until Declan gets his cast off. I know he is pretty happy about it. I know it is starting to get a little odiferous, so we will be happy. :lmao:
-----------------------
So when we left off we had returned to POFQ for a quick recharge and we headed back out to EPCOT around 4 pm. We did the usual with me heading through bag check while Pooksma and Declan headed for the gate. Somehow I managed to beat them in so I took a couple of pictures while I waited.

After we were all in we decided that we wanted to try Sum of All Thrills. Declan and I tried it at Christmas and wanted to do it again. This time Pooksma wanted to give it a go as well. Declan and I headed over while Pooksma went to the Art of Disney to get a print she wanted for her class. We picked up KP mission while waiting.

Pooksma and Declan teamed up while I went solo. We both eneded designing the roller coaster and had a blast. I will say this ride is much better with a partner so that you watch them on the screen while you are actually in the simulator.
Next we headed to Norway to get our mission which was in China.

We saved the world again and got called in to take on another mission in Germany. On our way across Asia, through the outpost and into Europe we ran into our friends from the 'Peg. If you have been reading along with Queenofallthings report, you will know they spent the day touring around EPCOT and having a great time.
We completed our mission and spent a bit of time sampling some of the products of Germany before heading to Italy to do the same.

We decided on the Boulangerie Patisserie in France. This is a great little counter service hidden away in the back of the France pavilion. I would highly recommend it. For some reason I don't have any pictures. After eating we headed through the UK and stopped to take in some Off Kilter.

We then decided to head back into FutureWorld to finish up the day with some rides. Declan and I headed for Mars again on Mission Space and then we all headed to see Nemo and his friends.

The next day will be our last day and we have a late flight so we will get to hit a park for the first time on our last day. We were fairly confident that Hurricane Irene wasn't going to stop us from getting out of Orlando but we were still a bit worried about Atlanta and further north.
Stay tuned for the last day.

Looked like a nice night in Epcot. We love the Patisserie in France too!! That is a must.
I'm sure Irene didn't get in the way. I know that b/c it got in our way on the 28th. We had to stay 2 more nights.

Enjoyed the walk around Epcot to start off my Friday. :thumbsup2 There are so many details in every country. A person could take hundreds of pictures, really, in any one of them. .
I know the smell of those casts. Getting it off is going to be nice for everyone. He will feel so free again!
Hope you guys have a great weekend! Don't forget to say Happy Birthday to Mickey today! ::MickeyMo

I was looking for the beer walk but they didn't have an official one so i made my own. ;)

So for the first time we purposely scheduled a flight for late in the afternoon so that we could get in a little more park time. So one last check of the weather to make sure we would beat Irene up the coast. By this time, she moved further out to sea and wasn't going to impact Central Florida. We figured we were safe into Atlanta and hopefully beyond that. But before that, it was time to get moving.
We were up early and I headed to Resort Airline Check-in around 8 am. Fairly painless. Back to the room, grabbed the gang and headed to DHS arriving around 9:15. We wanted to do the big rides again so I grabbed FPs for RnR while pooksma and Declan hung out around ToT.

It was then time to use our FPs for RnR before heading back to POFQ. We had managed to get a later checkout time of noon and we were going to be cutting it close.
Our last park picture of this trip.

We made it back right at noon and met up with a Mousekeeping supervisor at our room. The maid had asked her to check on us and apparently they weren't told we had a later check-out. All was straightened out and we grabbed our stuff and headed for the food court to grab some lunch and wait for ME.
I killed the time by taking some resort pictures that I will post in the next post.

We had no problems getting back except a missing bag in Portland Maine. It was the only bag we checked and they seemed to have misplaced it. Luckily they did find it within 30 minutes and we were the last people to leave the airport.
We shopped our way back to the north side of the border and got ready to wait out what Irene would bring to us. Luckily for us, again, she missed us entirely.
So there you have it, our most recent trip. We haven't planned another for 2012 but we will be heading south. We are planning a surprise cruise for Declan so that will be our big trip for this coming year. I hope you have enjoyed our report and hopefully there will be more to come.

Surprise cruise for his birthday in March and a trip to Montreal in early January to see the Canadians play the Winnipeg Jets. That will be one of his Christmas gifts.

We are doing a Carnival cruise out of Tampa. We did an eight day cruise last year with Carnival and really enjoyed it; this one will only be five days.
We have looked at Disney cruises a couple of times but they are a lot more expensive and on this upcoming trip, we couldn't make the dates work.
Enjoyed your trip report! Look forward to the next one!:)
Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully we will get a trip scheduled for 2013. Since we started going to WDW in 2004, we have only missed 2006 so this next year may go by slowly.

Wow, didn't expect to see this report pop back up! Glad you enjoyed it.
We've never been to DL, do the two compare?
I loved it! But they are both so different that I kept telling myself not to compare them. The parks are literally minutes (walking) from each other. I hated not staying on property, but had a Disneyland view (of both parks) and was able to walk to both parks, Downtown Disney and watch fireworks from our balcony. It was great to do the "Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour" at DL and walk literally where he walked. Because there are only two parks, it felt as though lots was missing, but at the same time, there was so much that didn't exist at WDW too. It was all good. But if you ever go, you have to try really hard NOT to compare them. I hear that most people, when they compare, they pick the first park they went to. They do things differently there too, like no EMH, but they do have Magic Mornings. On tickets 3 days or more, if you stay off park you get one Magic Morning. We got in at 7am (park opening at 8) and did 7 rights in Fantasyland before the park opened. It was great.
If you decide to go and have questions, let me know! It was worth it and I want to go back, when it's HOT!!!

Thanks. We always thought it would be cool to visit all the Disney parks...but we haven't won the lottery yet. :lmao:

I hear ya! We stayed at the Howard Johnson across the road, and I've heard people can get way cheaper rooms than we got. (Getting the Disney view, we had the most expensive room, but it was still not too bad.) We were happy with the deal, but seeing as we were two friends travelling together, we split the room, so that helps! :rotfl:

Thanks, glad you are enjoying it.
We have a great time together. We have spent quite a bit of time at WDW by ourselves and we have started to add cruises to our trips. We just came back from a 5 day cruise in early March and we are looking at a Disney cruise for next year.

March again. The only problem with that is it will probably be our Disney trip for the year. We may get a day or to after the cruise if we're lucky.

I think the kid clubs will take care of that and I don't think we can keep another Disney trip a secret from Declan. He still hasn't found out about the 2008 trip. :lmao:

I hope you get some Disney park time along with the cruise, especially if that ends up being your only trip for the year. If Declan could only do two parks for one day each, which ones would he pick?

Good question, I will have to ask him. I would guess MK and DHS.
Hi Declansdad and Pooksma and Declan:
I just completed reading your report. It sounds like you guys had a wonderful trip. We were there just a couple of days after you left. We had a great time too.
I have so enjoyed seeing all your pictures. POFQ looks like a beautiful resort. We may have to go over and check it out when we go back this fall. Our plans are to check out several of the resorts we've never been to before.
You asked on Memom's report if there would be free dining on our trip and the answer is yes. We also got it last year for most of the trip. We thoroughly enjoyed it and were so glad to get it again. Our oldest daughter goes to college about 30-45 minutes south of Disney and we will be taking her back to school and then we'll be spending 11 nights at Disney. We're hoping she'll be able to come and spend at least one day with us as she did last year.
Again, this has been a wonderful report. It was fun seeing Declan "growing up" in front of the wrecker. You and ma look good (well I mean what few times we were allowed to see her :rotfl:).
You guys take care and maybe someday we can meet up again and take another ride on POTC! :)

I guess having your daughter going to school near WDW is a great excuse for a trip. :goodvibes
That was our second time at POFQ and it is a great spot. It is nice and small so it is easy to get around and it is close to everything. EPCOT and DHS take no time at all, the drivers use the back way by Fort Wilderness to get to MK so that is pretty quick and AK takes maybe 15 minutes.
We had free dining last summer as well for for the entire trip. It is a nice incentive to take a trip. We even had free dining one day at SeaWorld, although the options are much fewer.
As you tell by my signature, we booked a 4 day cruise on the Dream. It is still a long ways away but we are pretty excited about our first Disney cruise. We will have a couple of days in Orlando at the end but I think we may have to do the unthinkable and finally go to Universal. Pooksma's brother will be in Orlando and Declan wants to ride the big coasters with him.

Totally not fair if you guys get to cross paths again before we get to meet either one of you once! :snooty:
But I do hope it works for you to meet again. ;)
I hope your daughter gets to come over and share some magic with you. You are staying for a good long time. Very nice! :thumbsup2

A trip on the Dream will be incredible! :cool1:
POFQ is nice, isn't it? Quaint is the words that comes to mind. Definitely a different atmosphere than Pop.
Universal? :scared1: I guess it's okay for visiting, but don't let him go completely over to the dark side.
