Characters ~ 2" Words & 4" Altered Letters Swap

Information for the Characters letter swap (Groups in the next post)
Sign ups will open on Monday September 12, 2011 10 am (Eastern). Due date is November 10, 2011. This thread will become the sign-up thread at that time and the progress thread after.

Newbies are welcome. If you haven't swapped with us on this board before, then I will limit you to 4 groups.

There are 2 different types of groups listed:
1.) The first set is for 2-inch embellished letters. Shadow layer should measure 2”. All letters should be CAPITAL/UPPERCASE :)

2.) The second set is for 4-inch altered letters. Shadow layer should measure 4”.



Groups are listed in the next post.

After sign-ups, please pm me your name, DIS name, mailing address, email address and phone number when you sign up (I will only use these in an emergency).

Groups 1-49 are 2" letter groups. The letters each swapper will individually make can be combined to spell out the entire word on your scrapbook page. Make your specified letter(s) 2 inches tall with a shadow/mat behind it. Embellish your letter(s) at least once to go along with the theme of the title. You may use patterned paper or solid colored cardstock. Please be creative and use colors that represent your group selection.


Groups A-J are 4" altered letter groups. Make a 4" letter, matted, and embellished at least once. You may use patterned and solid colored paper. Please be creative. You are making the first letter of the word only. An example is: You are in Group A and chose M for Mickey. You will make a 4 inch M and when everyone gets it back they can add "ickey" to it anyway they want or just use the "M" on their page to represent Mickey.

Suggestions for embellishments include:
Die cuts, stickers, stickles, flock, ink, chalk, brads, charms, flowers, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, sewing, tearing, embossing, stamping, clipart, additional layers of paper beyond double mats and specialty paper (such as embossed, glitter, Bling).


Packaging: Place your completed elements in a Ziploc bag THAT FITS YOUR LETTER(S). The bag MUST close. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use a bag that closes. Bags that do not close make the sorting harder than it needs to be. One piece falls out of a bag and then I have to check every bag to see where it goes. Label your bag with your DISname, name and group letter. Do not address your items to a particular swapper. (That makes it harder for me to sort!) Your label should look like this:

For All 2 inch Letter Groups: Please put each letter into a tiny bag (ie small jewelry bag or snack bag) then put those bags into a SANDWICH or QUART size baggie for each group. If you have 2 letters in the same group please put both letters into the same jewelry/snack bag then into a SANDWICH or QUART size baggie.

For All 4 inch Letter Groups: Please put each letter in its own labeled baggie and put all the baggies into a QUART or GALLON size labeled baggie.

Mailing:
* You may send to me, by any method you choose unless you are mailing after November 1st. Then, you must mail Priority WITH Delivery Confirmation.
* I prefer to send to you using flat rate boxes/envelopes from the USPS. Please include enough postage in your package for return shipping. The rates are: Envelope or Small Box (9”x6”x2”) - $5.20, Medium/Standard box – $10.95, Large - $14.95.
* If you want your items shipped to you with DC, please include the $.70, and a filled out slip. I will not mail the items back with delivery confirmation unless you include the $.70 and the filled out DC form.
* DO NOT include click-it/ship-it postage. I will not be able to use it since it is only good on the day it was printed, and from the location it was printed.


Required check-ins will be:

September 19 - verify groups and pm info to me

October 10 - check-in with status update

October 24 - check-in and last call for angels

October 31 – November 5 - detailed progress and mailing updates

November 10 -DUE Date


I will pm you with a reminder if you forget to check in. After 48 hours with no response I will request angels for your spots. If you are going on vacation or will be out of town, please check in early. Please do not sign up for more than you can handle. If you need an angel, please ask for one as soon as possible.

Just breezing through I can't think of anymore "main" characters. There is always Baloo, King Louie, etc but I think they can be covered under the "Characters" group since they aren't always out.
Epcot usually has extra characters milling around after you leave Character Spot but you never know who you'll see. I've seen Belle, Baloo, Max, Mary Poppins, Dopey, the list goes on.

I will put you down as an angel. I understand about being busy. This may be my last swap until I get Sarah's high school album finished and get caught up a little on other scrapping. There is a ton of stuff on my calendar for the entire year through May!

We have finally moved into our new house! We made the move last weekend, right before the first day back to school with the students- and right in time for Hurricane Irene to dump rain and wind on our moving day.

Luckily we were only on the edge of the storm so we were extremely lucky...she just slowed down our loading/unloading process.

I am still unpacking and trying to figure out where I'll be scrapping...but I would LOVE to join this swap! If you will have me?????

I was wondering, could we add a 2" group for Marie? maybe even Duffy? how about Sorceror Mickey? Whenever I scrap my pics from DHS I have a hard time with those pics since everything I have is more themed toward classic Mickey. It could still just be "Mickey" but with a Sorceror theme...

We looked through all of our AK photos (including Donald's breakfast) and we don't have any of Pluto in a costume :confused3 he just looks like ordinary Pluto. Have you seen him in something other than his collar?

I just don't want to try and do every single character that might be a possibility. I don't want any of us to get totally overwhelmed trying to make 2" letters ;)

They are :) There are times when only Stitch is out at AK and we've also seen only Stitch at DHS :confused3 Not sure why they put him out by himself sometimes :confused3

The only time I've seen them together was Ohana and AK. Every other time it's been just Stitch. He's usually at Epcot on the right side of the Ball when you come in and at MK near his *blech* ride.

I had thought this too! we had met hollywood minnie, chip/dale. and goofy/pluto during this past trip but i thought i had suggested too many already....:laughing:

dh may think i am crazy for jumping back into scrapping before I even have a scrapping area in the house yet :rolleyes1 but it's only 2 inch letters! and the post office is so convenient...and i miss swapping so so much! In Animal Kingdom Pluto is also part of a meet-and-greet with Goofy in Dinoland. Pluto is wearing a dino print scarf and Goofy is in dino print shorts. When I scrapped this page for my daughter I used the "regular" letters for Pluto and Goofy. These pictures were taken in Feb 2011.

The only other one I can think of is King Louie is pretty much always out with Baloo in AK, but not sure that he would be an easy one idea-wise?? I mean, like others said, there are tons of other characters, but you would have about 100 groups and that is not good....trust me...I learned a tough lesson!

Ladies can you help me out with colors for the Hollywood characters.

I looked up photos of the "Stars and Motor Cars" parade and found Minnie in a red/pink/orange dress with a red hat and diamond bracelets. Goofy in a navy pin striped suit with a "bowler" hat. All I could see of Donald was a brown "newsboy" hat.

Since I've never seen those characters I'm not sure what colors to specify for the Hollywood groups. TIA :)

I know Donald in DHS is in a bright yellow- not neon yellow but it is a true shimmery yellow. If Minnie is in pink then I believe Daisy is in light blue (again very shimmery- think hollywood movie star from the 1920's looks. I know Donlad wears a tophat and coat, Daisy and Minnie have the dresses and jewelry. Chip and Dale have top hats and vests that are both glittery shimmery as opposed to everyone else that is in smooth shimmery colors.

:welcome: Yes the letters are just like the ones posted on that page. There are lots of pictures of previous letter swaps on the "swap gallery" thread and quite a few used on pages on the "made with swap items" thread. Any font as long as the mat layer measures 2" or 4" depending on which groups you choose. Since you haven't swapped with us before I will need to limit you to 2 groups (to get your feet wet, so to speak ;)).

I'm very organized in real life, but, this is the first time I've hosted a letter swap so I'm kinda nervous! So glad you've decided to join us! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Julia says she will be helping me design and put them together, she is scared of my cricut and CDS and SCAL so she won't touch them. as you can see went with the hat theme for safari, except pluto...he gets a little treat!

Just a note, the cursive capital "A" looks like the one Lisa made, so I guess we need to decide if everyone is okay with cursive letters too :confused3 I hadn't thought of that until I saw the beautiful "A" Lisa made. Thoughts anyone?

I made it at the 2" size....I like the different fonts and would think the more cursive/girly ones are good for the princesses and fairies ....if we don't don't those let me know I have enough of the frog paper to re-do them.

I am not in this group. However, I prefer the ecletic look, so I am in favor of the cursive letter.

I noted that in red on the list now just as a reminder ;) On the size note black letter cuts a lot smaller than the inch setting, especially in lower case.

That's fine, I just wanted to make sure the letters were all about the same size as some fonts cut quite a bit smaller than the inch setting. I know that some of the ones I cut for the ride letter swap were cut at 3 1/2 or 4 inches to measure at 2 inches. Blackletter in particular cuts small.

These are letters that Rachel (MDD) and I made for the ride swap. The B was cut using Blackletter and the S is Mickey Font. As you can see the B is much smaller (more like 3ish inches than 4)

Thank you, I made the changes. The list I was typing from was 8 pages long and I knew I must have missed at least a few groups. Everyone's name started to look the same. I think typing the list of swappers and groups has been the most challenging part of this swap.

I have already set up a system of boxes and hanging file folders for when packages arrive, so I will definately be able to keep thos organized and in the proper slot :)
