View Full Version : INTEREST Thread - Disney Parks/Lands Page Swap

This is different than my general Disney Sketch swap I had last year. That one had the four parks and general pages.
This one is supposed to have the parks and lands.
Sign ups are September 13-15 with a due date of November 10. I would like to keep the due date as firm as possible to help us with our holiday plannings. Trying to finish it all before the festivities begin.
Newbies both to me and swapping are welcome, but will be limited to 2 groups. Unless you join the World Showcase group and you are limited to just that one.
Old Swaps

Groups as they will be at sign up. I wanted to keep it to 5 or under for the majority of them. So I picked the ones that felt most common or would have the most photos. Like for Epcot - Test Track and Mission Space and Energy feel like they are only rides. Nothing else is there. Thought we would save those for a ride/character sketch swap in the future.
Group A - Four parks One World

thanks, those looked great!
I'm up for this....so each is a single page if we go that route...since I've only done the recent sketch swap I like being able to pick the sketch I'd feel comfortable with.
love the epcot country idea, we would make 11 of the country we chose right, not to much more work than what we've done in previous mini kit swaps
this will be a fun swap, looking forward to it!

Yes. Single pages for this swap.
I am glad to hear that 11 of the same page does not sound too hard. :)

Annie, I'm in for this one.. I'd prefer you put some sketches out that we can pick from.. I'm especially wanting the 11 countries!!!! You know me and our Epcot adventures!!!

I do. :teeth:
I was thinking about doing hats, but I'm bugaphobic along with my children. We dread the thought of cooties in our hair. :rotfl2:
I think I will start saving up our change so that each boy can have $5 to spend in each world. Maybe that will motivate them to want to see each world. Course knowing my eldest, he will pocket the money and save it to bring home. :lmao:

OMG you know I am in!!!! I loved last years pages, even though DD and her broken arm drama put a kink in my plans. I would totally be willing to 11 pages for the WS!!!!!
I really liked how last years went. (I'm perusing the thread now)
Nan, if you pick Italy you'd better hide an umbrella somewhere on the page!!!
Can I start now????? LOL

I need to check my swap schedule, so I can be sure to squeeze this in.
I forgot I didn't answer your questions specifically.
1) How do you want this divided up? 11 pages for World Showcase feels like a lot. I liked the smaller groups we had last year, but I would keep the countries as it's own separate group of 11. I don't think you can divide that up.
2) Do you want any general Disney color/theme pages?
I think general is the way to go for the most part. Lands are specific enough.
3) Do you want me to select sketches?
YES PLEASE!!!! You pick great sketches!!
3a) Do want me to assign the sketches to groups or will you pick from them?
Didn't we have a set for each group that you could choose from? Like say 3 choices for Adventureland or something like that?
4) Do you want to do element specific pages instead? 2 photo mats, 1 journal box, 1 title, 2 choices from a list?
I like the full blown sketches, my only request is that we could have a few more sketches with more then 2 photo mats per layout. I don't know about y'all but I typically have multiple pics for each Land or country, more so then most sketches provide space for.
5) What other suggestions do you have? nothing specific comes to mind. You rock as the Sketch Goddess!!!

I had been trying to find sketches that 4x6 photos, but I am completely open to use the ones with smaller photos that more of them.

these are some I have bookmarked for reference materials. I'm sure we would need to contact the owners of the blogs to request permission to use the sketches. I'm not sure if we would be lumped into personal use or a class type scenario.

Umbrella.. heck that is for all the countries when my gang arrives! LOL
Italy especially...the monsoon hits as soon as the first foot lands in that pavilion!!!!
Let's see... what do I want... I have no idea.... I need this hostess to give me the groupings so I can start my thoughts.....
I don't mind having smaller photos on the pages as well as 4x6.... just as long as I have a sketch..

Hi,
I'm new to swaps but I'd love to see if I can join in this one? I was reading the thread explaining how last years swap worked and thought this could be a great outlet for my late night habit of crafting.
I see I can sign up for two groups since I'm new. Can someone explain a little more to me how many pages I'll make/receive and how to let you know which theme I'll make? I hope to join you! My last scrap project was 50 sewing kits via Cricut for my DSILs Disney wedding in July. A labor of love, but so worth it.

Jen,
First, :welcome: to our cozy corner....
Second, the hostess, AlexWyattMommy (AWM) will put out a more detailed list shortly, this is just a rough draft to get all the ideas in requests in and feedback....
So, the groups sizing will depend on how she lays things outs...
I would say probably 4-5 per group (this is guessing.....)...so you would make that number of your theme and then you will receive that number back in that group....
So, one group, the Epcot Countries will be 11 pages... So, each of us will pick our country and make 11 pages... send them in...and we will get 11 pages back (all the countries!)...
So, keep an eye out for a more detailed list and note when sign ups will be opening.. have your first three choices for each group you want because you need to be up and ready w/ everything you want because they will go quick!!! :) I type mine requests in word and then cut and paste... (I cut it 5 minutes prior to opening and as soon as she says OPEN, I paste it into the thread!)
AlexWyattMommy
08-24-2011, 06:30 PM
Nan is right. Most groups would be 4 to 5 except the World Showcase group.
We love new blood. Your sewing kits are very nice.
With the World Showcase being so big, I would have any new persons that wanted that group limit themselves to that group.
I will work on finding sketches tomorrow. But the basics would be - pick a group and theme/land, then pick a sketch. Using the same sketch more than once in a group is fine. They never look too much alike to be used.
These are not the real group numbers, just a rough draft.
Group A - Magic Kingdom [no Toontown since I don't know what they are doing over there yet]
1- Fantasyland
2- Frontierland
3- Tomorrowland
4- Adventureland
5- Main Street
Group B - Four parks One World
1 - Magic Kingdom
2 - Animal Kingdom
3 - Epcot
4 - Disney Hollywood Studios
Group C - Minor Parks
1- DownTown Disney
2- Blizzard Beach
3- Typhoon Lagoon
4- Boardwalk
Group D - Disney Colors
1-
2-
3-
4-
and so on

Ann,
Can we pick our layouts after the spots are picked? I may go back and change my mind depending on what theme I get.
AlexWyattMommy
08-25-2011, 04:46 AM
Yes. You can change your mind about the sketches. Because we can have more than one of the same sketch in the same group, it doesn't have to be set in stone. :thumbsup2

08-25-2011, 06:41 AM
ok, Annie.....
I know of 2 groups already...
Are you going to do each park's lands???? cause this may result in me needing more...
If you want and you see it's getting to be big.. you can leave out the lands of DHS and I can put them in the DHS swap (but you do the leg work for me? LOL)... just a thought...

This board is seriously putting me behind in my scrapbooking! I told myself no more swaps this year but this one really interests me. I prefer sketches now that I have worked with them and not opposed to smaller pictures. At a minimum I would sign up for the World Showcase group and can handle 11 pages.

I think I will get my toes wet with swapping again by joining a group or two in this one - if no one minds. Love, love, love having pages put together ready for pictures. I also use many smaller pics than 4X6 on a page....so that was another persuader. And since we will have sketches to choose from, easy peezy. Looking forward to this!

I really wanted to stay swap-free through the end of the year, but this was so much fun last year that I just can't resist. I'm limiting myself to 3 groups - one will be Epcot countries, and two others max.
I only have two more pages to do for my son's Eagle scout book, and then I'm project-free so I figured one small swap won't hurt anything. Besides - it will make my life easier by already having pages done to put pictures from my November trip onto. See....completely justifiable (or is that certifiable?)

I'm looking forward to this swap! I have a few questions as I've never done one before. So if I choose two groups, I'll make all the pages for that group and get the others back? Or I make enough for those groups and choose which ones I want? Can you tell I'm a planner? I don't want to mess up your groove. :goodvibes
Also, would it be ok to use things like maps from the parks? Say for borders or letters? I was thinking I'd like to work on the lands for Epcot or MK.
AlexWyattMommy
08-25-2011, 09:33 AM
Say you sign up for the Four Parks, One World group and you pick Epcot.
You make 4 Epcot pages that look the same. You will then get back 1 of your Epcot pages along with a DHS, MK and AK page.
AlexWyattMommy
08-25-2011, 09:35 AM
Using maps as accents or background paper sounds pretty neat. I am not sure how using them as the title would work but only because my cutting out is not as neat as others I guess.
Using fastpasses or autographed tags or other items would be neat too. I am all for using actual items as part of the page. As long as there is a buffer between them and the photos for safety reasons.
ShootingStarMom2
08-25-2011, 10:03 AM
Ok, thanks. I think I've got it now. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a land in Epcot. I don't have much done for that at all. It would be nice to have the section done for Epcot. I guess we spend too much time at MK.
I always take a big stack of maps, just in case. ;)

I am still debating this. I am falling so far behind on my scrapping lately..hmmm. Plus I am usually a two page layout person because I take way too many pictures (our family has named my camera "Cammy" and we call her child #4) especially at Disney. Not to mention when I went to the PO the other day my husband couldn't believe I spent about $60 for swap postage alone (return postage included). He said all the money you spend at the craft store isn't enough already :rotfl: Now everyone is saying this is one of their favorite swaps. Hmmm... what to do? what to do?? :surfweb:

Yeah...I need to get ours. Should really get on that, but I was slacking. The money that was designated for them went to a vet bill this week :rolleyes1. So, they will be on hold until a week or two from now. Unfortunately, being business owners is not really all it's cracked up to be. We have some customers that are seriously in debt to us. Like, they have not even paid their June bills yet. :headache: If they could just pay, we would be golden!

you have time, I don't think any of the parties have sold out yet...are you dressing up? Megan's going as snow white and I'm going as "rags" cinderella, found a cute costume on etsy for a good price for mine!

Those look great! I was just going to ask if sewing machines were ok to use for setting the elements and I saw sketch 1 with the sewn ribbons. I made my sons 1st birthday invites with that technique and they turned our really cute.

Where it shows sewing, you can sew for real if you know how or you can use the rub-on stitches or draw them or use something else to define that area.

I am glad there is interest in the swap and the sketches.
When I write the rules for the sign up thread, I will make sure to highlight this part -
Please use paper that matches your layout for the photo spots. This way if people want to cut their photos a little smaller, they will have mats for them. If the photo spots are touching in the sketch, you can use one big piece of paper. Please mark on the back of your page the sketch number you used along with your name.
Last time I had everyone make the photo spots a little bit bigger to give the mat effect, but with so many photos on the sketches this time, I don't want to mess with the measurements. And I will include a master sheet of all the sketches used so you can look at the sketch number on the back and match it to the sketch to know what size photos went where if there are larger pieces of paper instead of individual spots.

I have never participated in a swap before, and this one looks like so much fun! I use Sketch Support sketches all the time in my scrapbooking and LOVE them! I sure would love to participate!

Can't see the sketches anymore, we need to see if it's us or the sketch site.

Nevermind, only certain ones are showing up on her site. The rest are that photobucket thing.
I will get her sketch # and put it with my number. The sheets to print out for instructions are still showing up as of now.

Nope that doesn't work.
Would my saving it to my own photobucket account be a violation of copyright laws? The last thing I want is for us to get in trouble.

I know I'll regret it, but I'm going to sit this one out. With the trip right around the due date, I don't want to drive myself crazy...Please keep me in mind for an angel though.

I will.
And no pressure, but you if you really wanted a page or two, you can do them early and send them early. :thumbsup2

Annie - you read my mind...I will be in the world until November 8th. Is it ok for me to mail early before I leave? If I wait until I get home, I won't make the due date. So, I would need to mail by the 27th of October. Will that work for you?

Yes. Now that I have dedicated drawers, there are no stacked boxes. You can send as soon as you are done.

Looking over everything in the other thread ready for sign-ups tomorrow, and planning...just one question -
Are you going to designate groups for the two page layouts? I love the 2 pagers, but would like to try one of the one-pagers to get my toes wet in a swap, and don't want to short anyone who is planning on a 2 page layout...I want to get what I am giving KWIM? And the same is true if I decide to really jump in and decide to do a two page layout, I don't want one pagers in return.
I do have plans! Yay! Can't wait to sign up (and I hope I remember)!

Yes. Single pages for this swap.
Lynne, FYI - I think the only 2 page group is the last one, Four Parks One World. HTH!

Yes, there is only one 2-page group. But, you can use any side of the 2-page sketches for the single page groups. :thumbsup2

Hey Annie - just wanted to let you know that you have 2 groups for E and F. Figured it was a typo? :thumbsup2

Cutting and pasting would work better if I would proofread my work.
Will turn one into a G and the other into a number so I don't have to mess up everyone who made their lists early.
