:welcome: everyone! I know this report is a bit late, but I havenít been DISing much this summer. I figure it is better late than never. Before I begin, I have a confession to make. Iím not sure this is the best place to make the confession because I have noticed that you are a bunch of enablers.:rolleyes1 But Iím going to make my confession anyway. (Gotta start somewhere, right?) I maybe just might have a small addiction to Disney World. There I said it. In a public forum too. That is got to count for something right? ;)

First let me introduce you to the Darling Family.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy273/dismagiclover/Photo0055FourBySix.jpg

We have DH. At home he masquerades as a government attorney. Also pictured are Wendy, age 11; John, age 9; and Michael, age 6.

Here is the heroine of the story.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy273/dismagiclover/Photo0370FourBySix.jpg

That is me, Jenny, proudly portraying my hard earned Mickey medal. I earned it last January and Iím still bragging about it.:woohoo:

My addiction this past year has been very well fed. If youíd like to read all about it check out the links in my siggie. This trip was a bit different. It wasnít planned months and months out. I didnít agonize and map out every little detail. (Though my DH might claim it was still over planned.) It just came about rather quickly and by accident.

Our Annual passes expired on Friday, June 17. The kidsí school was scheduled to end on Tuesday, June 14. Definitely not enough time to squeeze in a trip. Then rumors started flying about how school may end early to get a jump on some summer construction. This, of course, got me to thinking. (Always a scary thing.;)) If school ended on Friday, June 10 that would leave plenty of time to get a trip in. I anxiously awaited official word and mapped out a potential plan.

I presented my plan to DH. He rolled his eyes and told me I had to find a way to pay for the trip out of our planned summer vacation budget. We always spend a few weeks out west visiting family every summer. This year we were adding a jaunt to CA on to the end of our trip. The plan was to spend some time at Disneyland, the beach and Legoland. Whatever I could squeeze out of the planned budget for this trip I could spend in Florida. So I started squeezing. I eliminated several nights in hotels and we stayed a bit longer with family. I also determined a single marathon day in Disneyland would do the trick. Presto! I had $1000 for Florida.:yay: How could I possibly do a week trip to Florida for a family of 5 for $1000? A little bit of Disney magic. We would drive down; passes were already paid for; we could use DVC points for 3 nights, and we had enough Disney reward points to cover most of our food at the parks. I presented this to DH and by some still unexplained miracle he thought it sounded like a great idea!

Now the only suspense was the school schedule. We finally received word that the last day was Monday, June 13.:headache: Not what I was hoping for. However, 5th grade promotion was scheduled for Friday, June 10. So Wendy was in the clear. Michael was in kindergarten so I didnít feel bad about pulling him. John, the 3rd grader, is my greatest Disney lover and assured me that all they would do is watch movies on the last day. So the trip was on! Let the adventure begin!popcorn::

So I didnít do a PTR because there wasnít time. We had less than a month from the time we decided this vacation was happening. And as all you DISers know, a month when it comes to Disney World is a truly last minute vacation. First challenge was where to stay. For me there was no question.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/June2010/June17thurs/okw.jpg

Last summer my kids and I stayed in an Old Key West studio and had a marvelous time. I really wanted to show DH how relaxing a vacation at Disney World could be. Add to that the low point values of OKW and my curiosity about the size of the 1 bedroom units. (Everyone always raves about them.) So I was just hoping we could get in last minute. Disney magic was with me because when I called there was a 1 bedroom available for the days we wanted. I was feeling lucky and asked for the Hospitality House (a separate DVC booking category.) It wasnít available, but I went on a waitlist for it thinking there was no way it would come through on such short notice. I was wrong though. About a week before our trip our waitlist came through.

Unfortunately we only had enough points available for 3 nights at OKW and we were planning on spending 5 nights at WDW. So I needed to find someplace to stay the other 2 nights. And it had to be within our budget (which was $100 a night.) I toyed with the idea of POR Riverside (the only moderate that will sleep 5), but even with my AP rate it was over budget. So I made a reservation at Buena Vista Suites. It is off property, but it had come very well recommended. Then one day I was cruising around over on the Orlando resorts board and found a great deal at the Hilton Bonnet Creek.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%202011/hiltonbonnetcreek.jpg

For those of you not familiar with the Bonnet Creek area, it is a piece of property not owned by Disney World, but surrounded by Disney on 3 sides. It fourth side is bordered by I-4. Thus the only way you can access it is by going through Disney property. It is right behind the CBR. Frankly it is closer to both Epcot and DHS than most of the Disney resorts. By booking through Last Minute Travel we could stay there and keep within budget. I looked at one picture of the pool and decided to go for it. I really think it was a steal to be at such a nice hotel in such an incredible location for so cheap. ($89 a night.) Then I found a couple inexpensive hotels for the drive down and back and we had places to sleep for 7 nights.

Next up was the food. We really werenít planning on many ADRs. First of all I didnít think much would be available and secondly table service at Disney would blowthe budget right out of the water. DH did mention one night how heíd missed eating at Garden Grill in January and I agreed. So we decided we would do one splurge and try for a Garden Grill ressie. Luckily after trying for a few days I finally snagged a 4:00 dinner reservation.:) Then Wendy saw a picture of the new refillable mugs and decided she just had to have one.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%202011/mugs.jpg

At $15 a pop I didnít think that fit in the budget either. But then I got to thinking. (Remember that is always a dangerous thing for me.;)) DVC had recently introduced the ability to split a reservation and only add the dining plan for part of your stay. So if we added the dining plan for just one day we would all get a mug good for the duration of the stay. Plus we could then use the dining plan to cover the Garden Grill. Only kink was the mug is not included in the regular dining plan. So what is a girl to do?:confused3 Obviously, my only choice was to add the deluxe plan for the first night. And luckily we had enough Disney reward points to cover it. So really we got the plan free, right? So that left me with 2 more ADRs to make. Iíd always wanted to try lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern so I made one there. Then we just had to figure out one more dinner. Since we really wanted to spend some quality time at Old Key West we settled on Oliviaís. Then I noticed that DVC members get a 20% discount for lunch at Les Chefs de France. Well I have to take advantage of that when Iím on a budget. So our ADRs were set and all of them except Garden Grill were easy to get even though we were less than a month out.:woohoo:

Last thing to figure out was our park schedule. We had arrival day, four full days and departure day. So we decided to hit a rope drop in each park with an evening in Epcot for Illuminations and an evening in the Magic Kingdom for Wishes. So the plans were set and we wouldnít even have to wait too long to execute them.

Next up: The trip begins.

We did a "Surprise, we are going to WDW" vacation last summer with our kids. We also planned it very last minute. I received a "Kids Stay, Play and Eat for free" promotion in the mail with my Disney Visa bill and I just could not pass that up! So I started thinking, "how can I put all 5 of us in a value resort to stay in our budget?" Voila--"Let me invite my parents!" (Our trip was very last minute so we had a very stiff budget to follow. The flier was in my May bill and we left June 19th for 7 nights). :) My parents came also so we stayed at POP, put one child in their adjoining room with us and only had to pay for the room, tickets and quick service meals for the adults!!! Woohoo!!! :cool1: (When I get to thinking, it is very dangerous for us too!!) :lmao: We had a FABULOUS time.
Then in October, a friend that I work with had a 2 bedroom room booked at Bay Lake Towers for the week of Thanksgiving. Her brother and his family decided that they could not go, so she invited me and my family :cheer2:!! I just could not pass that up either!! Another last minute trip!! So I started thinking again---remember this is dangerous for me too! I presented my plan to my DH and he said it was a GO!!!! :woohoo: I was beyond excited especially when I realized that we would see most of the Christams decorations. We had to buy tickets for all 5 of us this time, so we planned on eating many meals in the room and make full use of that full kitchen! We had an amazing, fabulous, wonderful time (did I use enough adjectives)!!!!!!!!

Now March of 2011 comes around and I was showing all of my Disney Christmas pics to my parents, and they said "I would love to go at Christmas some year." My response--"Really, how about THIS Christmas? It can be a present for all of the grandkids. My Dsis and I can buy all of the "extras" that go along with a Disney trip as Christmas presents also." Their response was "why not, we never know what to buy them anyway". :dance3: We are going again!!! This time it was booked for Dec. 21st to Dec. 28th for my family, my parents and my sister and her family. A grand gathering Christmas. We are all soooo excited and since it is a present, the kids do not know anything about the trip.
August of 2011 comes around and Disney announced free dining--I got to thinking again (uh-oh) :goodvibes. I looked at the dates of free dining and our dates-we missed it by 4 days. But hold up, if we take the kids out of school on the Monday and the half day on Tuesday, we can leave on the 17th, check in and have free dining for our entire stay---or could we. I plugged in dates on the website, called Disney to verify that my findings were correct and I called my parents screaming with excitement. I discovered that we can extend our stay to 11 nights, have free dining and save $600 per family!!!! :yay: So we rebooked and now we are staying for 11 nights, 10 days in the parks and free quick service dining for our entire stay!!

My “thinking” has really paid off for my family and I can’t wait to see how it will for yours too! I really think it is a good trait sometimes :rotfl:.

PS. I was just reading your tickers--our Christams trip is also my 40th B-day trip--Dec. 30th!!!!! and my family is really enjoying that little tidbit!

Sounds like a great start to a trip! I'm addicted to Disney too. I've got a Moms Only Trip planned for Jan/Feb and I'm working on a June family trip in my brain. :rotfl2: Disney planning is sooooo addicting. I'm especially interested in your trip because school ends for our youngest DS(13) on June 8th supposedly but you have to factor in snow days. Ugh. I'm not sure when to book our vacation but it will probably start Sunday June 17th. Looking forward to your June trip report!!!!!!

It seems like luck was on your side and your eagle eye and excellent planning skills saved the day.....and the budget, too. This sounds like a fun trip without any of the excessive planning (that would be my borderline obsessive planning mode, ahem:rolleyes1) that can make you feel like a rat in a maze sometimes. It sounds like you have some of the same "thinking skills" as me;) They do come in handy don't they! I am jealous of your upcoming Christmas trip! 11 nights would be awesome! I keep saying one of these summers I'm going for 2 weeks, but so far it hasn't happened. Where are you staying in December?

Sounds like a great start to a trip! I'm addicted to Disney too. I work on trips in my brain all of the time too! Sometimes those trips actually happen (like this past June!) I know that worry about trying to figure out when to start the vacation in June, but not knowing when school will actually end! Go as early as you can though. June gets more and more crowded the later it gets.

How awesome is that! A surprise trip to Disney!!!!

Since we've visited so much lately it was easier to kind of let go of the details and just let the trip happen. There weren't any must dos. All of us knew this was just a bonus trip so everyone was pretty laid back. It made for a good trip.

I hear you on those point costs at OKW! They can't be beat (except maybe by BWV standard views.) I love OKW. It has such a relaxed vibe. I love the Epcot resorts because of the walk into World Showcase, but I think I like the atmosphere of OKW best. It just feels like you are in Florida! The resort choice was a huge decision as we are not DVC members......yet :thumbsup2. We are going as a grand gathering so we had to find a place that everyone could afford ;). I did alot of "thinking" and figuring of Disney Math and it seemed like our best deal was a value resort. We are staying at Pop!! My husband loves my family but really likes his "privacy" also and loves that fact that he can close the door and we have our own room and bathroom :rolleyes1. Since we are saving money by not staying in a moderate or deluxe- we are giving Christmas presents such as BBB, Pirates League, the Pirates Cruise, Pick a Pearl, the Sleigh Ride, Characters in Flight, and Horseback Riding at Fort Wilderness. We have free quick service dining, but we also made reservations at Chef Mickey's for Breakfast for our last meal before we leave and at Liberty Tree Tavern for Christmas Day for lunch. My mom, sister and I also have the Candlelight Processional Dinner Package booked for Le Cellulier! I am super excited about that! We also booked the Harmony Barber Shop for my dad. We have gone to Disney for years (my 13th trip) and he has always said he wanted to get his haircut there. So I am giving him that as a Christmas present. I have also booked the "Behind the Seeds Tour" for my parents as a present. So as you can see, we are having a true Disney Christmas. Santa will also bring a couple of toys for my younger kids and I can't wait see what they will be!! :rotfl: Their stockings will also have gift cards from "Disney" so they can buy a couple of souveniers from this trip because I know they will see things they just have to have :lmao:!

:welcome: I'm so glad you came out of lurkdom! And :woohoo: for the princess in February! That looks like such a fun race. And yes definitely factor into your plans enought time for a few pictures. That is what make the Disney races so much fun! This trip wasn't near as exciting as the marathon trip, so I hope the report doesn't get too boring.

This day began bright and early. We actually had things to do before we headed South. First up was a 10K race for me. Iím running the Disney half marathon in January and I needed to get a time I could submit so that I wasnít in the last corral. My neighbor was running the race with me so we headed out at 7:15 for the 8:00 start time. (Gotta love that we donít have to wait around for hours for the local races.:cool1:) We picked up our bibs and made it to the start in plenty of time. Here is a picture of the start.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%202011/IMG_1703.jpg

Here is a picture of where I was at the start. I lined up at the back.:rolleyes1

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%202011/IMG_1704.jpg

The race was hot, but my time was good enough to submit to Disney so I was happy. Best thing about this race was who was waiting at the end.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%202011/IMG_1868.jpg

My other addiction is Chick Fil A. So I have to say the next best thing to Mickey Mouse greeting me at the finish line was the Chick Fil A cow. Plus they had chicken biscuits for the runners. So we headed back home; I took a shower and then we headed out for Michaelís last t-ball game. DH is the coach so we figured we shouldnít miss it. Here are a few photos.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/IMG_3915.jpg

After the game we headed home. DH packed the car; the kids had lunch and we finally hit the road around 1:00. Nothing too eventful to report about the ride. My kids actually do really well in the car. A little whining now and then, but they do that when they are at home too. We made it all the way to South Carolina and checked into our hotel around 9:30. Tomorrow weíd be at Disney!:yay:

Wow! A half marathon the day you leave for Disney! I want to do a Disney half marathon, though I'm not sure if that will work out just yet because of school...

The pictures of Michael at his game are so cute! And that's great that the kids are so good in the car. One of my sisters tends to get car sick!

Hi Angie! So excited you found me! I love having old trip report friends stop by:hug: I noticed you have a ticker! Tell me all about it:goodvibes

Aww...thanks!:goodvibes I love reading your TR's....I wouldn't miss it!:thumbsup2 Yes, I finally have a ticker! It's been too long! We are planning to head back in April again for a week. We just love the F&G Festival..I'm sad that we missed it this year.:sad2:

Anyway...back to your TR! Wow! I'm always running around trying to finish things on departure day and here you were running a 10K and going to a t-ball game as well.:worship: Glad the drive is going well so far and the kids are doing so good in the car. I'm not sure how my boys would do on such a long trip...although we have thought about it. It would definitely save us a ton on airfare. Maybe someday.....

Now that's a way to make the day go fast.................running a 10K and a t-ball game. I miss those t-ball games (our boys are grown or two out of three are) and we really enjoyed cheering our oldest when he ran x-country in high school! I'm also envious of runners (I'm old and out of shape). :rotfl: I can't talk the youngest into running anymore. He's trying 8th grade football now and he's already injured. Boys will be boys. I can't wait for the Disney portion of your trip to begin!!!!!!

Wow!! A 10K race on travel day! That is awesome. I do a lot of running on travel day too-grabbing this and that for suitcase, packing the ice chese, packing the car, last minute errands--but nothing like a 10K race :rotfl:!! I am thinking about doing a trip report this time as I am finished graduate school now :woohoo:. I just might have time to devote to the "fun" things in my life like my addiction to "Dis" :rolleyes1.

It wasn't actually a half marathon, only a 10K (which is 6.2 miles.) You should definitely try a Disney half sometime. They are so fun. The January one is on Saturday. So you could fly down Friday after school and fly back Sunday and you wouldn't even miss a day. I did that a couple of years ago. Actually Michael does get carsick. We've got it down to science these days though. He has a container with a lid so he just throws up in it, we put the lid on, and then dump it and clean it at our next stop. He is amazingly good natured about it.

I wouldn't have normally run a race on departure day, but the race was on the schedule before the trip was planned. We had to stay for the t-ball game so I figured I might as well run it.

This was our last year of t-ball. Next year Michael starts coach pitch. He is excited, but I'm dreading it a bit. I think the games end up way longer because the kids actually have to make outs. I'd love if my boys did x-country. I guess we'll see.

We were on the road bright and early headed to my favorite place. We made decent time and by 3:30 we were here.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney004.jpg

That is the tram from the parking lot at Hollywood Studios. It was the last day of Star Wars Weekend. June 2009 we had an absolute incredible time at Star Wars weekend and we knew we wouldnít be able to top that, but we still thought it would be fun to pop in for a few hours before we headed to the hotel. Here are the rest of us on the tram.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney003.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney005.jpg

Can you tell John is a bit excited?:goodvibes I just love walking up to the DHS turnstiles during Star Wars weekend. The Star Wars theme song was playing and it feels like fun times ahead. I couldnít resist a couple of pictures of the Star Wars posters.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney007.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney008.jpg

First thing we see is of course the hat.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney010.jpg

Next thing we see is a Photopass photographer. Initially I thought we would have to skip the photo pass this trip.:sad2: (Remember my strict budget.) Luckily I decided to look into a photo pass share which worked out great. All of my pictures only ended up costing $20! Good news for me and good news for my trip report.:cool1: Anyway, of course I insisted we stopped for the photo pass guy. Here is what he took.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/Photo1140FourBySix.jpg

He told the kids to do Jedi moves.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/Photo1142FourBySix.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/Photo1144FourBySix.jpg

Now we had to figure out what to do. The plan was to meet some Star Wars characters. So we wandered over to find some. We spotted some.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney012.jpg

The boys decided the lines were too long. This became the running theme of the afternoon. In fact we walked through pretty much the whole park and looked at the Star Wars characters, but didnít meet any of them. I even asked the boys if they wanted pictures of anyone and they said, ďNo. We have pictures of them from last time.Ē I think they may be getting a bit jaded.:rolleyes1 So since I donít have many pictures of the Star Wars characters from this trip, Iíll show you a few favorites from our 2009 trip.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/fri%2012/Image072.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/fri%2012/Image082.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/sat%2013/Image090.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/sat%2013/Image108.jpg

After wandering around looking at characters for a while I saw one I wanted to meet. It was Queen Amidala. My boys would not be meeting any girls this trip so Wendy and I hopped in line. DH took the boys over to Star Wars store where they amazingly all came out empty handed. (This budget thing was really working.) Anyway here are the shots of Amidala with Wendy and I.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/Photo1149FourBySix.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/Photo1157FourBySix.jpg

She was a great character. She talked in that completely expressionless way. No way she was going to crack a smile. She did like Wendyís manicure though.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/Photo1148FourBySix.jpg

By this point everyone was a bit hungry. The boys wanted pizza, but I didnít feel like going anywhere near Pizza Planet. That place is just too crazy. Luckily Iíd done my research before the trip and discovered there was a place called Catalina Eddies over by the Beauty and the Beast theater that served pizza. So we headed over there for dinner. It was the typical Disney pizza, but without the lines of Pizza planet. This is the only picture I have of the meal.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/disney017.jpg

So we hadnít even been in the park two hours, but it was hot and the consensus was weíd rather be in the pool.

Next up: We check in at Hilton Bonnet Creek

We headed out of Hollywood Studios and made the quick drive to Bonnet Creek. It really was a quick drive. It was almost right next door.:cool1: We were impressed with the area as we pulled in. In the area is a Wydham timeshare resort as well as the complex with the Hilton and the Waldorf Astoria. We checked in and were told weíd gotten an upgrade. We had a theme park view! This place was looking better and better. So we headed up to the room. The room itself was nice. Pretty typical Hilton or Marriott dťcor.

I donít have a great camera, but we could see Epcot, Hollywood Studios and even Expedition Everest in the distance. Too bad there was no balcony. I would have loved to sit out there at night and watch Illuminations. We could see it, but only through the window. So the kids were chomping at the bit to get into that pool so we headed down for a swim. What did we think? It was an awesome pool. The lazy river went all the way around and it was shallow enough that even Michael could touch the bottom. We had a great time! There was a decent slide too. It was comparable to the slide at OKW. I didnít take my camera to the pool, but here are a few pictures from other threads.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/hilton4.jpg

This is the pool bar. They also served some light fare such as sandwiches.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/Hilton1.jpg

This place offered tube rental. We rented tubes the next day for the Lazy River and it was awesome!

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/hilton2.jpg

There was also a couple of firepits by the pool and they were selling símores packets. So we bought some overpriced símores. (I think a packet with fixings for 3 símores was $10.)

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2012/hilton3.jpg

They were yummy and it was a fun way to end the evening. After our snack we headed up to the room to get some zzzzzz. Tomorrow was our first full Disney day!

We stayed at the Hilton Bonnet Creek which is just a regular room, but it's a nice regular room. (Pretty much just what you expect from a Hilton or Marriott.) Wydham Bonnet Creek is the timeshare with the 2 bedrooms with full kitchens. We may stay there sometime too, but to get the good deals from them you have to go through owners.

We were up bright and early; had a quick breakfast in our room, and made the short drive over to Epcot. We arrived around 8:40 and there were quite a few people already lined up at the turnstiles. I scoped out the situation and noticed a turnstile to the far right with no line and so I headed over and started my own line. It took a few minutes, but pretty quickly people moved over and there was a full line behind us.:thumbsup2 I love that little trick. Just look for the empty turnstiles because they open all of them. Anyway we were one of the first in the park and headed up to the area where they do the opening show and rope drop. Here we are literally at the rope.

I'll take a guess.......................test track. I know its usually ours after fastpasses to Soarin. :) Did you drive from your hotel or take a bus? Don't you love all the looks you get when you walk over to a empty turnstyle? We always get behind the people the people who have no clue on how to put their car in the machine or use the scanner! It drives us all crazy especially the DH. :rotfl2:

We have a winner:goodvibes Test Track it is. We drove from the hotel. When we have our car we usually drive unless we're going to the MK. It is faster than the buses. I do love going to the empty turnstyle. It is funny to see people's reactions. Some are obviously annoyed like somehow we butted in line. Then there are the people that are trying to decide if they will follow us or not. They always seem to think it's a risky proposition. It never takes long for the line to form behind us though. Makes me feel like an expert:goodvibes

We were heading to our first ride of the trip: Test Track! There was a bit of a line, but it wasnít going to get any shorter so we hopped in. Here are the boys.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney044.jpg

We waited maybe 15 minutes. During the wait Wendy wasnít doing too hot. She was starting to feel sick. We were just about to enter the preshow area when she said she needed to leave. Wendy and I rushed out the exit door and the boys headed into the preshow. (The CM said we could come there and skip the line when we came back.) Wendy sprinted to the nearest bathroom and by the time I caught up with her she was already in a stall getting sick. Poor girl.:sad2: She came out and we went to a bench by the Test Track exit to wait for the boys. I began to question Wendy trying to figure out why she was sick. I discovered that she hadnít had anything to drink since the previous evening. As part of the budget plan we ate breakfast in the room and Iíd had the kids just fill up their water bottles in the hotel sink. Wendy did not like the flavor of the water and didnít drink any. No fluid in Florida in June leads to dehydration. Dehydration leads to nausea and that is what we had. So I went to a stand and bought Wendy a fruit slushy hoping she could get some fluids in her. (Side note. It was a strawberry fruit slushy and was very tasty.:goodvibes) The boys came out. They had enjoyed their Test Track ride. I told them Wendyís current status. We decided to carry on and hope she felt better after getting some liquid in her. Next stop was Mission Space.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/DSC020562.jpg

Not surprisingly Wendy wasnít feeling up to this. So Wendy and I plopped down outside the exit to wait for the boys. Wendy wasnít feeling any better. In fact the slushie was making her feel worse.:confused3 I was chatting with the woman next to me when all of the sudden Wendy jumped up and sprinted for the bathroom again. Uh oh. Things were not looking good. I followed her to the bathroom and yes she had gotten sick again. At this point I realized she probably needed to go back to the hotel, lay down someplace cool and slowly try to rehydrate. So once the boys came out of Mission Space we discussed what to do. Obviously the boys saw no reason to head back to the hotel. They were enjoying their Epcot day. DH kindly offered to drive Wendy back. The boys and I could stay for a while and then we would ride the shuttle back in the afternoon. We were hopeful Wendy would feel better and we could all come back for the evening. (DH really wanted to ride Soarin.) So Wendy and DH headed back to the hotel. I felt bad for Wendy and really grateful to DH. The boys were happy as clams.:rolleyes1 Last summer weíd spent 4 days at Disney World with just the boys and I. They were more than happy to try and replicate the fun we had that trip. So we continued on our way. Next stop.

A ride in a clamshell

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/IMG_0933.jpg

Then we headed over here.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/100_2761.jpg

I felt a little guilty using the Soarin fast passes that DH had obtained for us and couldnít use.:guilty: Soarin is one of his favorite rides. Here are the boys goofing around in line.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney046.jpg

As you can see they were having a grand time. After Soarin they wanted to head over for a ride on Figment. I like this ride. Never a line.:thumbsup2 Afterwards we spent some time playing around in the exit area.

For Michael most of the morning had just been killing time. He was waiting for his single most important must do on this trip. That must do would be available at 12:00. The time was finally here. Where did we go next? (And if anybody guesses Iíll be really amazed.)

What a bummer for your DH and DD! That's a miserable way to start the day isn't it. Our middle son has problems with the heat also along with motion sickness. I remember on our very first day at Epcot (ever) we picked Body Wars (yes that was a long long time ago) as our first ride. He went on but suffered for it the rest of the day. Oops. Nothing is worse than a child not feeling well on vacation. Great for the rest of you that you were still able to enjoy the day. Hope she didn't take long to feel better again. Oh and I bet you watched her fluid intake like a hawk the rest of the vacation.

It was a bummer that Wendy got sick. Unfortunately we deal with the motion sickness thing too. (Michael.) I definitely made sure she drank enough through the rest of the trip. She was making sure she did too. She didn't want to miss another Disney day!

Lisa gets a prize for guessing our next destination. I am pretty suprised anyone guessed because most people wouldn't think of this as a destination. Her prize is a trip report update:laughing:

If you have followed my past trip reports you may recall my boys have what I think is a rather strange obsession with Duffy, the Disney bear. They first met him last October, and visited him again in January. When I asked Michael for his must dos this trip meeting Duffy was at the tippy top. So 12:00 had finally arrived and it was time to go meet Duffy. I highly suspect Michael may be the only person on the planet that would rate Duffy as the #1 Disney World attraction. Anyway we headed for Duffy’s Meet and Greet. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Duffy the Disney Bear here is a storybook that contains some of his backstory. (Basically he is a bear that Minnie gave to Mickey when he was going on a trip so he wouldn’t get lonely. In reality he is a way for Disney to sell stuffed Teddy bears.:rolleyes1)

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney049.jpg

Anyway, Duffy was happy to see his biggest fans again. Here are the pictures.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/Photo1230FourBySix.jpg

By this point our tummies were rumbling. We were very close to Mexico so I decided this was a great chance to try out the new CS in Mexico.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/100_2859.jpg

I’m so glad we did. It was very tasty! Here is my meal.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/PA040200.jpg

We ate at a table outside which was very nice, but pretty busy. When we finished the boys needed to use the restroom so we went inside.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/DSCN0377.jpg

I wished we’d eaten in the inside area. It was cool, quiet, and had a lovely view of the water.:cloud9: This is a table service place during the evening and I bet it is lovely. Definitely a place worth returning to. And next time we eat there I’m eating inside. So by the time we finished up our lunch it was around 12:45. The shuttle back to our hotel came on the hour. I figured there was no way we would make the 1:00 shuttle so I figured we had some time to kill. I asked the boys what they wanted to do. They said they wanted to go color Duffy. (Apparently coloring Duffy is almost as good as meeting Duffy.) So we headed into the pyramid and they did some Duffy coloring.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney051.jpg

That didn’t take too long. What’s next?

I'll take a guess (and probably won't be correct) but how about single rider line for Test Track again! I love TT!!!!!! Nothing beats the outside portion. Well then again maybe EE, SM, RnR, TT, etc. etc. :) Thanks for the information on Duffy. As my boys are older (23, 22) and 13 I'm not into the characters much. I always wonder about his story. After some Duffy coloring the boys decided Innoventions was calling their name so we began the walk over there. We were waylaid by the site of a photo pass photographer. So we took some pictures with some fun topiarys.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney053.jpg

A few feet later we were waylaid by another Photopass guy. (I have a problem.:rolleyes1) Here is what he took.

Finally we made it to Innoventions. What did the boys want to do? Be in their own video game.:dance3:

Here is the final result. (You can see me in the reflection.)

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney059.jpg

Next they decided they should save up some money for our next vacation.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney061.jpg

I guess they werenít liking this budget vacation thing. Usually they save for college. Here they are diversifying their savings.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney063.jpg

If I remember right they reached their goal so I guess our next vacation will be extravagant.:yay: (Itís going to be an Alaskan cruise. Too bad that money isnít real.) It was about 1:45 so I figured we needed to skedaddle over to catch our hotel shuttle. On our way out we spotted one of Johnís favorite characters without a line. So of course we stopped to say hello.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/Photo1245FourBySix.jpg

Then we headed out to catch the shuttle. We didnít have to wait long and this bus was much more luxurious than Disney transportation. It was a charter bus with very comfy seats.:thumbsup2 We did have to make a stop at Hollywood Studios, but it didnít take long to get back to the hotel. What would we find there? Would Wendy be recovered?

I did a walk thru of Innoventions this year when all the kids were in there to do Sum of all Thrills but by the time I got there they were done:confused3 It's been many years since we've spent any kind of time there so I loved to see that the boys were in their own video game....every kids dream I'm sure:cloud9:
The update about Wendy's condition is coming right up. I don't think we'll spend much time in Innoventions when the kids are older. It's great stuff for school age kids so we're enjoying it while we can. And yes being in a video game was definitely my boys' dream.

We brought my 9 month old niece with us in January, and Duffy was the very first character she met! She liked him, but not as much as your boys do!!
I don't think anyone likes Duffy as much as my boys:rolleyes:

We headed back to our room and found Wendy and DH waiting for us. How was Wendy? She was feeling much better! :dance3: So what should we do? Go swimming of course! We spent a lovely afternoon in the pool.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/disney022.jpg

We rented tubes and I spent most of my time floating around the well named lazy river. One funny incident. At one point I was on the side and was attempting to hop into my tube. I plopped my bottom down and then proceeded to flip over backwards tube and all.:lmao: I’m sure it was quite the sight. In fact it still makes Wendy laugh whenever I mention it. (She was lucky enough to see it.) Another amusing tidbit: The kids decided to play tag in the lazy river. They kept tagging me. Which was fine by me because I wasn’t playing tag. So they would get bored of me being It (because really how fun can tag be if no one is chasing you:laughing:) and would approach me begging me to tag them. It amazed me how many times they continued to tag me. I always thought my kids were pretty bright, but I was wondering about that this afternoon.:rolleyes1 Anyway we had a great afternoon at a fabulous pool. If my kids were still really little or not good swimmers this pool might have been stressful because it is a big pool and there were no lifeguards. For us, however, it was great.:thumbsup2

After our fun afternoon we had to determine where to head for dinner. Because we had the luxury of the car we decided to venture off property to save a little money. (Always thinking about that budget.;)) So we decided to go with Sweet Tomato which is one of those soup/salad/pasta bar places. It is in Crossroads Plaza which is right by Downtown Disney. Very yummy place and much more economical than anything on Disney property (or at our hotel.) The kids loved it so much they want to go back every time we are in Disney. (They just liked the self serve soft ice cream.) After our yummy meal we headed back to Epcot. DH and Wendy were really hoping to use some of our fast passes from earlier in the day since they had missed most of Epcot. My boys had one thing on their mind. What was it? Duffy. They wanted to visit every Duffy coloring spot. They even named their mission. Duffy Quest. I had a different mission. I wanted a family Photopass shot. So that was the first thing we did first.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/Photo1248FourBySix.jpg

Then we sent Wendy and DH off to Soarin while the boys and I continued our Duffy Quest. Since we’d gotten Mexico earlier in the day we decided to start in Canada. There are such lovely gardens here.

Here are some kilt wearing Canadians.

Duffy Quest continued as we headed towards the UK.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney071.jpg

We were distracted for a bit by some Mickey Style Hopscotching.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney074.jpg

I have no pictures of Duffy Questing in England, but after the boys were finished they said hello to some old English friends.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/Photo1266FourBySix.jpg

After this I’m pretty sure we colored Duffy in France and Morocco, but I have no pictures. I then told the boys our quest would have to take a break because I had another mission. The Sounds of Summer concert series was going on and it was Eagles night. So we found a seat in the auditorium and got our groove on.:cool1:

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2013/disney078.jpg

Well I got my groove on. The boys were bored to death. So I took them over to Duffy Quest in America and listened to the music from there. At the very end of the set Wendy and DH showed up. By this point Illuminations time was approaching. We staked out a pretty good spot by the railing to the side of the auditorium. We had a great view of the globe. This picture isn't from this night, but you get the idea.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/June2010/June20Sun/DSC02040.jpg

After the show we followed the masses out the Epcot main entrance. At this moment we were of course missing our Boardwalk home, but Bonnet Creek was right around the corner too. (We just had to drive there instead of walk.) We snuggled into our comfy bed, but I was already anticipating tomorrow because we were checking into Old Key West!

Fun update! I will have a car in December and will be staying at OKW so maybe that Sweet Tomato will be a good choice. I think it is good to have a couple off-Disney meals. That's for the tip!

I am still amazed at how cool that pool is. So glad Wendy was feeling better!

Looks like a lovely evening at Epcot. Looking forward to your OKW check in!

There are tons of restaraunts at the Crossroads Shopping Center right across from Downtown Disney. They really are more reasonably priced. I'm jealous that you will be at OKW in a few months. I love that place!

We were up bright and early once again for another Disney day. We learned our lesson the day before about scrimping on breakfast so this morning we headed to the hotel breakfast buffet.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/kidseatfree.jpg

We like kids eat free. It was your basic breakfast buffet. I like breakfast food so I found it quite yummy. I made sure all the kids ate and drank plenty. I wanted no dehydration issues.:rolleyes1 So after a yummy breakfast we piled all the stuff into the car and said goodbye to Hilton Bonnet Creek. I would definitely stay here again, especially for such a great price. Yes, it isn’t a Disney hotel, but location wise it as good as a Disney hotel. The other non Disney place we sometimes stay is Shades of Green. I would rank Hilton Bonnet Creek higher and the rate we got was cheaper than Shades of Green. So perhaps we will be back. Anyway today was our Hollywood Studios day. Believe it or not we still made rope drop. We were, however, at the end of the street instead of up by the hat. We joined in the Toy Story dash. We’ve learned from past trips that the best strategy is to go through the standby line first and then pick up fast passes if we want them. The line was wrapping around outside by the time we reached it. We walked in the building at 9:17 and saw this.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney079.jpg

The boys are waiting patiently.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney080.jpg

Mr. Potato Head greeted us.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney082.jpg

The ride was fun as always, but if the kids weren’t with us I’m sure we’d skip it. Just too much time and effort is required to get on it. We made it out around 9:45 and DH was dying to get his fast pass on. (Just a refresher for those that may have forgotten or may not have read my past reports. DH has a bit of a fast pass addiction. He just loves to collect them. Sometimes he uses them; sometimes he gives them away, but he is always looking for ways to obtain them. In fact he can't quite kick the addiction even when he is not at Disney World. He keeps a Soarin Fastpass in his wallet.) So this morning he was itching to get some Star Tours fast passes because it had recently reopened. So we sent him over to pick those up while the rest of us mozied over to the Animation studio. Wendy’s top choice at this park was the drawing class so we were hoping to hit an early one. DH made it back pretty quickly with 5 passes in hand and we were all escorted into the drawing class. I really like this. I’m not much of an artist. (I am an art historian. I can tell you all about old art, but I can’t create it.) So whenever we do this I’m always proud of myself when I see the results. So here is my proud creation.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney087.jpg

DH did well as usual.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney085.jpg

Wendy held her own.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney086.jpg

John didn’t do too shabby.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney084.jpg

Michael hates the drawing class. He is too much of a perfectionist and it frustrates him. Here is his result. I try to tell him it’s pretty good for a 6 year old, but he doesn’t go for that.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney088.jpg

Notice my boys just drew Mickey. Not only will they not visit with the girl ones, they won’t draw them either.

Speaking of girl stuff that is what was next on the agenda. We hadn’t seen the Beauty and the Beast show since our first trip in 2006. I wanted to see it again, and I knew Wendy would really like it. My boys. Well you probably saw this one coming. Not so much.:confused3 They do not meet the girl ones, draw the girl ones, nor do they watch the girl ones in shows. So Wendy and I were on our own. Conveniently there was a boy show taking place at the same time. So while Wendy and I headed to Beauty and the Beast, DH took the boys to Indiana Jones. Beauty and the Beast was as good as we remembered. Here are a few pictures to jog your memories.

BWV is our home resort my DH just loves the location (I like it too.) Secretly though I may like OKW better. Bonnet Creek worked great for us. The only downside is technically it only sleeps 4. My boys love sleeping on the floor so they didn't mind, but they could be a problem as they get older.

I'm in the same camp with you about Toy Story, it's a fun ride but the effort it takes to get on it is RIDICULOUS!

Funny story, on our last Disney trip we didn't have a RD planned at DHS, just heading to the park on arrival day (we got off the plan just after 9 a.m.). Our plan was grab the rental car and head to DHS to attempt to grab one of the last FP's for TSM. We parked the car at 10:19 and was in the park before 10:30, but just as we got to Pixar Place, the CMs were announcing that the last FP's had been given out for the day. Boo. :sad2: As luck would have it, NASA kept pushing back the space shuttle launch we were in Florida for, so we did end up with a RD morning at DHS and did the TSM dash with everyone else!

How funny that your boys drew Mickey instead of Minnie! Boys will be boys, I guess.

I hadn't seen Beauty and the Beast for years before our last trip and I forgot what a wonderful show it is! Even DBF liked it.

Your description of Bonnet Creek has made me want to look into it. We've already got hotels/townhouse for our October '11 and March '12 trips, but I'm hoping to get one more trip out of our AP's early next October. I'm putting Bonnet Creek at the top of my list for places we should look into if we want to use cheaper lodging than Disney's hotels.

After leaving the Beauty and the Beast show, Wendy and I met up with the boys. They had enjoyed their Indiana Jones “boy” show. Now, however, they were all chomping at the bit to get on Star Tours. This was the first time for the refurbished ride. My stomach doesn’t get along well with Star Tours so I happily sent my family on their way. What did I get to do? Anything I wanted!!! I love when my family goes on Star Tours because it gives me the time to do what I love best about Disney. Just enjoy being there without worrying about where to go next. Now I have a secret place I like to hang out while the rest of the family is on Star Tours. I reveal this only to my closest DIS friends because I don’t really want the secret out. There is a hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle of the park. Believe it or not it is quiet; it has Disney reading material; and best of all a delightful selection of delicious baked goods. What is this mythical place?

The Writer’s Stop. (Most of these photos aren’t my own. I borrowed them from another thread.) It honestly seems like my own secret corner of Hollywood Studios. It is right next to the Sci Fi cafť. Here are a few shots of the inside.

I plopped myself down in a reading chair and spent my time browsing a book about Disney Illustration. I loved it! It wasn’t too long before the clan finished up Star Tours. They found me in my spot (and did a bit to spoil the quiet of the store.) They had a great report. Normally my boys don’t like 3-D, but this was an exception. (Though Michael didn’t wear his glasses.) We had an early dinner scheduled so I suggested we raid the baked goods counter for a light lunch to tide us over. No one complained about that. Here is a shot of the display. It doesn’t do it justice though. It doesn’t show the yummy cupcakes available.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/display.jpg

Being this was over 2 months ago and I didn’t take pictures I have no idea what we got. I do know we liked it though. We sat in the little seating area and enjoyed. Here is a shot of the seating area:

After our relaxing interlude we headed back out into the park. Wendy and I headed off to the American Idol show.

I like this show. You never quite know what you are going to get. Here are our 3 performers.

I don’t really remember any of them, but I liked the show. While Wendy and I were cheering on the Idolettes, the boys headed over to meet a couple of their favorite stars.

We all met up again and I had one final thing to do in Hollywood Studios. I wanted to go on the Backlot Tour. We had never been on it and I figured it was about time we did. We headed over and hopped in line. The tour was not meant to be on this day. About five minutes into our wait lightning was spotted in the area. Since this is an outdoor attraction they had to wait at least 30 minutes before resuming the ride. So we decided we’d try and hit it another day. We headed out to our car.

Next stop: Old Key West!

I can't wait to try Star Wars. Glad your family liked it. I want to ride it until I see every sequence (which will take all day) LOL! I'm not THAT crazy!

OKW - Yipee!

I love the Writer's Stop! First time I went in there I think we were the only ones there - a very strange feeling at Disney...

I'm glad the report of the new Star Tours was good. I'm looking forward to trying it out myself very shortly!

I'm glad you discovered the Writer's Stop. You definitely need to stop in for some yummy treats! Let me know how long it takes you to get in all the Start Tours ride sequences. And how often you see the same ones. Interesting research.:goodvibes

We left Hollywood Studios and headed for Old Key West. Yay!:yay: The kids and I stayed here last summer and had a fabulous time. DH had never been so we were excited to show him the resort. John was especially excited because this is his favorite DVC resort. It is right up there for me as well (though I remain partial to BWV because of the walk to Epcot.) Though I have to say if we could walk to Epcot from OKW than it would be #1 for me. So it felt like we were going home when we pulled in. We parked the car and headed to the check in area. Immediately I began to feel that laidback vacation vibe that is so much a part of OKW. Here are a few pictures. Most of them are from our last trip, but you get the idea.

Unfortunately our room wasnít ready yet, but we were OK with that. Mostly we had just come to check in so we could get our deluxe dining credits. We had a 4:05 ADR in Epcot so we were planning on heading over there anyway. So after getting a little teaser of the relaxation that was to come we hopped back into the car and drove to Epcot. We had a few minutes to kill before our ADR so what do you think we did? Duffy Quest. We hadnít hit Norway yet so we headed over there. Here are the boys Duffy Questing in Norway.

We only had time for one stop. Then we headed over to the Land for dinner. The Garden Grill is one of our familyís favorite character meals. We just love how you sit there and the food and characters come to you. No getting up and schlepping to the buffet. Plus the scenery changes during dinner. The character interaction here is some of the best weíve ever had. This meal didnít disappoint. Here are some pictures.

Even though my kids are growing up, they can still have fun with the characters. Mickey made it around again. (Wendy closed her eyes in the shot before this so she is overcompensating.)

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney122.jpg

And again.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney124.jpg

DH and the boys had already left for the bathroom when Pluto came around to give us our last goodbyes.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/disney125.jpg

This was our only character meal of the trip. As our kids get older these are losing priority. They are still fun though and Iím not planning on stopping them altogether anytime soon. Anyway our room was ready and we were anxious to see it. So after dinner we headed back to the car and drove to Old Key West.

Up next: Our first Old Key West evening.:cloud9:

Old Key West, I had no idea it is so beautiful!! I really had no clue, I must do some resort hopping to see what I have been missing out on!!

Every time I walk by the garden grill it smells wonderful, but the menu didnt appeal to me, if I had known it had great character interaction I would have booked that one!!

Hey I just found your new report! So fun that you managed to squeeze in a surprise summer trip. It looks like a lot of fun so far!

I have a quick question...what does your time need to be/what do I need to bring to move to a closer corral? I did a 10K in 63 minutes but don't have anything official that says that. Can I just print the online list of times to bring with me? Thanks for any advice you can give me! :goodvibes

Looking forward to reading the rest of your report. Your PP obsession always makes for a good TR since you have all those pics! :rotfl: Have your boys seen pictures of Duffy in his pumpkin costume? You might not want to show them unless you have a MNSSHP trip factored into your budget! ;)

Sometimes at the Garden Grill we see the characters so many times I feel like saying, "Hi Mickey. Just move right along." We don't want to hurt their feelings though so we never do that:laughing:

Hello my old friend! Awesome time on your 10K! My 10K time was closer to 70 minutes. The online printout should work just fine. I think there is a spot you take it at the Expo and they will move you up your corral. How has training gone? So exciting! I really want to hear about your race. Make sure to let me know if you do a trip report. I have never seen pictures of Duffy in his pumpkin costume. We went to the MNSSHP last year, but Duffy was only at Epcot. Do they move him over to the MK for the party. You are right that my boys would love that, but they aren't getting another Halloween trip anytime soon.

We arrived back at Old Key West and headed for our room. We had reserved a 1 bedroom near the Hospitality House. I was excited as we pulled up to our building.:dance3: Our room was on the 1st floor which I really liked. No hauling luggage up and down stairs. (Most of the building at Okw donít have elevators.) Here are some pictures of the room. (I actually didnít take any room pictures so these are taken from the OKW thread).

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/okw10b12.jpg

One of the couches folds out to a double bed. That is where the boys slept. The chair on the far right folds out to a single. That is where Wendy slept.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/100_1572.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/100_1571.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/100_1569.jpg

This may sound silly, but I loved the extra counter by the table. It was such a great place to dump all of that extra stuff like water bottles, souvenirs we picked up, Duffy coloring sticks etc.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/okw10b10.jpg

This is the hallway that leads to the master bedroom. The door on the left goes to the full size laundry room. Also another nice feature. It was the perfect place to put all the suitcases that was completely out of the way.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/100_1562.jpg

The master bedroom with our lovely king sized bed.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/100_1564.jpg

Our whirlpool tub! Another reason the 1 bedrooms are so much better than a studio. What did we think? We loved it. Pictures donít really show you how big this place is. It was much bigger than the DH and Iís first apartment. Even though it was a 1 bedroom we never felt crowded at all. In fact it almost seemed more spacious than the 2 bedroom we had in January at BWV. I loved the fact that the master bedroom was actually down a hallway and had its own entrance out to the patio. The biggest downside is that the kids didnít have their own bathroom. The bathroom that we did have was really big though. After checking out the room and bringing in the luggage the boys starting begging to visit the Community Center and the pool. Last year the boys absolutely loved the Community Center and we spent hours there. This summer was no different. Every chance they got the boys wanted to go to the Community Center. In fact even when we were in the parks the boys would ask if we could go to the Community Center. They have video games, fusball, darts and they often have craft projects. The staff there is fabulous. They are fun, welcoming and so laid back. Weíve visited the Community Centers at Saratoga Springs, Animal Kingdom Kidani, and the Boardwalk too. Old Key West is by far my kidsí favorite.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2014/okw52.jpg

So we popped into the Community Center for a little bit then we spent the rest of the evening swimming at the pool. This is a fun pool, but not really anything special. There is a decent slide, but no gradual entry and no water play area. So in the pool department Hilton Bonnet Creek wins.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/June2010/June20Sun/okwpool.jpg

We filled up our mugs at the refill station right by the pool. (Remember the mugs were the impetus for getting the 1 day dining plan.) The kids swam while DH and I just relaxed in the lounge chairs. It was a really pleasant evening. Love that Old Key West vibe.:cloud9: Shortly after dark we called it a night. The kids settled down in the living room. DH and I enjoyed the master suite. It was sweet dreams for us all as we looked forward to another Disney day. I was especially excited because the next day we would FINALLY make it to the Magic Kingdom.:woohoo:

Nope. I am not giving up character meals! I even have a couple scheduled for my January trip where it is just DH and I. (Shhhhh. Both times we stayed at OKW we had the car so we only took the bus to the MK (to avoid the TTC.) We probably wouldn't stay there if we didn't have the car. Riding buses can get old.

I know you love SSR so I'd guess you would love OKW too. They are both very relaxing. OKW has a casual Bob Marley kind of vibe to it. (In fact they play Bob Marley in the main area.) We really do love it there. Definitely consider it for your next trip. Those villas will blow you away size wise.

I'm glad Wendy's issues got resolved quickly. And she made sure to hydrate herself the rest of the trip! OKW is really nice. It's very different the hotel like resorts. Much more like condos, and it's really spread out. We've always stayed by the Hospitality House and we've loved it.

You should definitely consider it. OKW really is an underappreciated resort.

I donít know if youíve noticed or not, but we had been in Disney World for three days and had still not stepped foot in or even had a glimpse of the Magic Kingdom.:scared1: Pretty unbelievable. But the day was finally here! It was our Magic Kingdom day! The kids and I at least were really excited. (DH doesnítí always give the Magic Kingdom its proper reverence.) The other thing we hadnít yet done this trip was ride the Disney buses. After a quick breakfast in the room (Weíd brought cereal from home and bought milk the night before) we headed out to the bus stop. The bus pulled up promptly and by 8:20 we were on our way. Can you sense the boysí excitement?

Here is the rest of the Darling Family. We look a bit more tired.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/disney129.jpg

We were in the park by about 8:40. Yay! We were in time for the morning show. I just love the Magic Kingdom opening show. No matter how many times I see it, it always makes me grin ear to ear. It just lets me know I have a Magic Kingdom morning ahead of me and it doesnít get any better than that.:goodvibes Here are a few pictures of the show.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/007.jpg

The Magic Kingdom was open! What were todayís plans? DH, John, and Wendy had big plans. Wendy and John were going for their first ride on Space Mountain!:woohoo: Pretty exciting stuff. Michael, on the other hand, wasnít feeling quite ready for Space Mountain yet. So he was sticking with me and we were doing the Dumbo Dash. For those of you that havenít read my previous trip reports, Iíll give you a little background. Iím pretty good at the Dumbo Dash. In fact, Iím better than pretty good. I have actually won the Dumbo Dash not once, but twice.:cool1: That is right. I have been first in line for Dumbo two times. (And if you count Disneyland Iíve won it 3 times.) However, we knew we would not win the Dumbo dash on this day. All the stars have to align perfectly to win (and you have to have a before park opening ADR.) So today we werenít going for a win. We just wanted a respectable showing. (Like maybe 2nd or 3rd round of the day.) So anyway we were off. Michael knows how to do the Dumbo Dash. He knows we walk very briskly up Main Street and knows this is not rose smelling time. (In fact I think I do the Dumbo Dash faster than I go up Main Street during the actual Disney races Iíve ran.:rotfl:) So we are hoofing towards the castle. The blood is pumping. The adrenaline is flowing. And then I saw the cutest thing. One of those things that made me smile and I had to stop to take a picture. Tianna and Naveen were walking across the hub heading for their Meet and Greet. (This isnít the cutest thing.)

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/008.jpg

There was a family taking a picture with the castle in the background. What did Tianna and Naveen do?

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/009.jpg

They snuck into the picture.:cutie: I loved that! What a fun moment for that family and what a great memory. Love those little things that happen at Disney! Anyway no stopping for pictures of us with the castle. Here you see Michael on a mission.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/010.jpg

As we headed for Dumbo I got my first glimpse of the Beastís castle. I managed to snap a quick picture.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/011.jpg

We made it to Dumbo in really good time. Iím happy to report that even though we didnít win the Dumbo Dash we did make it on the 2nd round of the day. Here is Michael. He was pleased with the results.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/012.jpg

Another guest offered to take a picture of us together. I must say Michael is heavy these days.

Here is Michael on the ride.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/014.jpg

Fun as always. I really think I will miss riding Dumbo right in the heart of Fantasyland. I donít think it will be quite the same when it flys over a circus tent. While we were on our ride we spotted the rest of the family heading our way. I was excited to get their report. What did Wendy and John think of Space Mountain?

You are right about how happy we all were to be there! I do worry that my kids don't realize how lucky they are to have all of these trips. I never want them to become routine or old hat. We really are lucky or blessed or whatever word you want to use. I try hard to get my kids to understand that. Anytime they tell me life isn't fair, I shoot back with, "You are right about that. And you definitely win when it comes to the fair scale." They have learned not to tell me life is unfair:laughing:

This picture was taken on our October trip (thus it's dark), but you get the idea. Then we headed over to Winnie the Pooh. The queue here is now so much fun. Love this picture.

They got going pretty fast. Glad I missed it.

Weíd finished up everything we wanted in Fantasyland so we headed over to Frontierland for a ride on Big Thunder.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/disney135.jpg

Next up was Haunted Mansion.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/hmsign.jpg

The boys hadnít been on this since they were really little so they were quite nervous. I wanted to check out the interactive queue, but since the boys were hesitant about the whole thing we figured it would be better to just get it over with. I rode with the boys and the only time I could get Michael to open his eyes was the dancing scene. John enjoyed it though. He especially liked the ghosts in the car at the end. I think after the ride Michael regretted not opening his eyes for that part because John kept talking about how funny it was. Next we headed over to Pirates.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/weds%2017/IMG_0366.jpg

Fun ride as always. By this point the fast pass time for Space Mountain was up. Wendy was nervous. John was just excited! That first ride on Space Mountain is a big Disney moment! I couldnít wait to see what they thought.

I am planning on doing a trip report, so I will let you know if/when I start it! Are you on Facebook? I am planning on updating on there, so pm me if you are and you can read the details as they happen! The training has gone pretty well, I did 10.5 miles a week or so ago and it felt good. I'm going to try to sneak in a 6 and an 8 before we leave, but we'll see! I am feeling fairly confident about finishing, not sure how quickly though! :goodvibes I am so excited to do my first Disney race, and I'm sure you understand the feeling, but how in the heck do they get you so excited about running so many miles?!?!? :rotfl:

We have a pre-opening ADR at CP this trip, so we are in it to win it for the Dumbo Dash. Your pics have me even more excited to go to MK~luckily I only have to wait 8 more days. Can't wait to see the new interactive queues in person!

You will love the new queues. They are awesome and they really get me excited for the whole new Fantasyland because I think they are a sign of what is to come there.

I'll see you a PM with my FB info. You will do great! Disney races are so fun! I'm a bit jealous! I'll be there in January though and I still have lots of training to do. Sounds like I have some competition for Dumbo Dash Champion. I'll be impressed if you manage to win it! You read last years trip report though so you know all the tips.

Wow- you guys were so patient with MK! I'm not sure I could have done that.

It is pretty amazing that we waited so long to get to the MK. For most of my family Epcot is the favorite park so they didn't mind. I was chomping at the bit to get there though. I don't know why the photopass was in the Pooh queue that day. Maybe she was trying to get some shots they could use on the castle that evening.

So DH, Wendy and John headed off for Space Mountain. I asked Michael what he wanted to do while they were riding. He suggested the People Mover and I was happy to oblige. I love this ride. It is just so relaxing and there are always great views. Here is Michael.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/disney137.jpg

I tried to sneak a peak at what was happening over in the old Toontown, but I couldn’t really see much. We missed Toontown this trip, but I told the kids we’d be able to go to Toontown in Disneyland and that it was even better. After our ride around Tomorrowland we met back up with the rest of the family for their report. What did they think? Well John loved it. He wanted to go again and proclaimed Space Mountain his new favorite ride. Wendy, on the other hand, didn’t have such a favorable review. She said it was OK, but complained about feeling cramped in the ride vehicle. I had to laugh at that because Wendy can still squeeze into a child size small. She couldn’t have possibly been that cramped.:rolleyes1 I think she is just not much of a thrill ride lover and those cars aren’t the most comfortable thing so that is what she focused on. Anyway at least for John, Space Mountain was a huge success. And this made DH very happy because while I don’t mind thrill rides, they aren’t my favorite thing about Disney World. So slowly DH is grooming a thrill ride partner in John. DH says they are going to give Expedition Everest a try next trip. Anyway it was getting close to lunch time and we had an ADR. (Remember we are on Deluxe Dining for 1 day so we get three table service meals.) We headed across the hub and I coerced the family into taking a castle picture. (We hadn’t taken one yet this trip.) Here it is.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/Photo1343FourBySix.jpg

Lunch was here.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/libertytreetavern.jpg

I had never had the lunch menu here. We came here for dinner once when the characters were still here and I’d eaten lunch here once when the Crystal Palace was closed and characters were here for all 3 meals. I liked the all you can eat turkey dinner OK, but I was excited to try the lunch menu. It didn’t disappoint. I ordered the pot roast.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/potroast.jpg

It was yummy! The dessert was even yummier.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/30a7z37.jpg

I don’t remember what anyone else had, but we all enjoyed it. It was a nice cool break in the middle of the day. However, we were ready to get our ride back on. First stop after lunch was Splash Mountain (at some point DH had gotten fast passes for all of us.) Neither Wendy nor Michael were too keen on this ride, but I didn’t feel like sitting out with them. (I love Splash.) So I made them all go. The wait in line was kind of fun. The 2 guys in front of us were big Disney fans. They knew where all the Hidden Mickeys on the ride are and promised to point them out to us. So throughout the ride they would point and yell back to us. It was cracking me up. They are in the front of the log. We could have been in the front, but none of the kids wanted to ride in the front. These guys were more than happy to switch with us. Here is the ride picture.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/disney138.jpg

John loved it. Michael liked it all except the big hill. Wendy tolerated it. After Splash Mountain we headed back over to Fantasyland for a couple of rides. First was Small World.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/weds%2017/DSC00787.jpg

Wendy is now old enough this ride bores her to death. I remember the days when this was her absolute favorite and totally mesmerized her.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/021_21.jpg

Oh well. Times change. Michael is still young enough that he likes it. It was one of his requests this trip so that is why we did it. (Before we left I asked each person to give their top 5 requests for each park and tried to work them in.) After Small World we headed to one of my Magic Kingdom requests.

Your boys will love Phineas and Ferb! That is such a fun show! A huge improvement over Hannah Montana (Disney Channel's last big hit.) You definitely need to do the People Mover next time! It is very relaxing and it has some great views.

I would guess your son will be ready for the thrill rides. I think 9 is about the age where most kids start liking them. Wendy will tolerate them, but she is too much of a control freak to really let lose and enjoy them. It really is fun when the whole family can go on all the rides together!

I love LTT for lunch! Their pot roast is my favorite and that dessert is to die for isn't it!

My mouth is watering now just thinking about LTT lunch. So good! You are right about how quickly they grow up, but it is a fun process to watch happen. Your Jasmine has grown up to be such a lovely young woman. I think my Wendy is on the same path and that really does make the whole experience of watching them grow joyful.

Even if you add a 100 lbs to Wendy she would still fit just fine. I think she weighs around 65 pounds. She was just looking for an excuse that didn't make her look too wimpy for not liking it. I read that they no longer allow segmenting the DDP. I'm not too suprised. Some people were making it very complicated. I'm glad we took advantage of it when we could. For us it worked out great because we got the 3 table service meals that we spread out over 2 days. Bummer you won't be able to do it.

We’d done almost everything on our Magic Kingdom wish list. There were just a few things left. Buzz Lightyear was one of them. (We’d picked up fast passes at some point.) So we headed over and hopped on. Something amazing happened during this ride. I actually got to shoot a laser.:scared1: Normally I ride with the boys and just steer, but I decided I actually wanted to play. So Wendy and DH hopped in a car, John and Michael went together and I rode by myself. The boys were bummed I wasn’t going with them because now they would actually have to steer the car themselves. Here are the red necked shots.

After Buzz Lightyear I was itching to use some of those 10 snack credits we had from our 1 day on the Deluxe plan. I had something specific in mind and so did DH. They were two different things. So I sent DH and the boys off to get their snack. What did they get?

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/June2010/June19Sat/DSC01880.jpg

What could I possibly want that would prevent me from a Dole Whip? It was something I’d learned about from the DIS. Wendy and I headed here.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/bakery2010a1.jpg

Believe it or not I had never been in the Main Street Bakery. Hard to believe, but true. However, I had spent enough time on the DIS to know what I wanted from the bakery. I wanted one of those delicious ice cream cookie sandwiches.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/1091919363_jvTZr-M.jpg

This thing did not disappoint. It was huge. The boys showed up before we were done and we had some to share. Great use of a snack credit.:thumbsup2 We also picked up some pastries to eat for breakfast the next day. This was my first time in Main Street Bakery, but I don’t think it will be my last. Anyway we still had one final thing I wanted to do in the Magic Kingdom. I wanted to visit Mickey and Minnie at their new place in the Town Square Theater. So we headed down. They do have fast passes available for this meet and greet, but we didn’t need one. The line was pretty short. We headed in and waited a few minutes. While we were waiting I enjoyed reading the posters on the wall.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/disney143.jpg

Wendy made faces at the camera while John tried to give her bunny ears.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/disney146.jpg

Pretty soon we were escorted into a room. Next came a moment that can still make Wendy roar with laughter. I’m pretty sure this is a “you had to be there” kind of moment, but I’ll tell you about it anyway. The CM working this waiting area seemed a bit high strung. I’m thinking this may not have been the best fit for her. We were ushered into the holding room. She kept saying, “Scoot in. Scoot in.” She had us crowded into the front half of the room like sardines. Then she closed the door. And the back half of the room was empty.:confused3 There were about 4 groups of people in the room. We all just kind of looked at each other and shrugged. The end group began to back up to fill up the space. Then what did the CM do? She said, “Scoot in. Scoot all the way forward.” Maybe some folks were there with invisibility cloaks. Who knows? Anyway then the CM opens one of the doors, leaves the room and shuts the door. We all stayed squished up because we did not want to get in trouble. About 60 seconds later we heard the CM scream at the top of her lungs, “Mickey!!!!!!” Remember the door was shut, but we all heard the scream. Wendy was pretty sure Mickey was having a heart attack.:scared1: We all just looked at each other unsure what to do. I mean if Mickey was truly in trouble shouldn’t we try to help? We all just kind of stood around (squashed in a half empty room) for about 3 minutes. Then the CM who we’d just heard give this heart piercing scream walked back through the door and kindly escorted us down the hallway to Mickey’s dressing room without a word of explanation.:rotfl:

Mickey and Minnie seemed unaware of the drama we’d just experienced. They were happy to see us.

My boys got Epic Mickey for Christmas and ever since have shown concern for Oswald (the rabbit.) Before we left I’d read that Oswald was in Mickey’s dressing room. So the boys asked Mickey where he was. Mickey showed us. Here is Oswald.

This evening I must have decided to just relax and not worry about picture taking. Clearly I was not thinking about my trip report. So there arenít tons of pictures. Anyway we left Magic Kingdom and headed back to our spacious Old Key West villa. The boys especially were looking forward to this evening because they knew the plan was just to hang out at the resort. Where did they want to go? The community center, or course. So off we headed to see what was going on. The boys happily began playing some game or other. Wendy wanted to see what craft project they were doing. They were making backpacks. She decided it looked like fun and so did I. So Wendy and I proceeded to outline and color Disney characters on the backpacks. Here are the final results.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/064.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/063.jpg

Mine is Snow White. Wendy drew Minnie. I thought they turned out kind of cute.:cutie: That actually took a while. By the time we were done with this the boys were ready to do something else too. So we borrowed some tennis racquets and headed over for a game of tennis.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/okw94.jpg

Watching my kids play tennis is always a bit amusing. Wendy did go to a tennis camp one summer, but you wouldnít really know it. All three of the kids were on one side of the court and DH was on the other. Even with this match up DH had very few returns to hit.:rotfl: The kids spent most of their time chasing balls. I even had to retrieve a few balls even though I was sitting outside of the court reading a book. Surprisingly this activity lasted up until dinner time. Dinner tonight was right there at the resort. We headed to Oliviaís.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/IMG_4336.jpg

The kids and I ate here last year, but this was DHís first time. We all enjoyed it. It is nothing fancy, but has a great relaxed vibe. (Just like the resort.:goodvibes) Our server this evening was excellent and the meal only increased my love for Old Key West. The best part for me was the Key Lime dessert. Yum.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2015/121010_O_KeyLimeTart.jpg

Isn't it funny how you can just tell with certain people that "this is definitely not the job for you". Makes me laugh everytime! Imagine the stress they must be under getting up and going to work everyday:lmao: I could just picture that whol scenerio in my mind:rotfl2:

I hope for that poor CMs sake that it was just a bad day. It gave us something to laugh about though. The new set up for Mickey and Minnie was really cute. We also went and saw the princesses later in the trip. They didn't have any special backrounds. Just those plain old curtains.

I donít quite know what happened this day, but we didnít even come close to making rope drop.:rolleyes1 That is very unusual for the Darling Family. We must have slept in a bit, ate breakfast in the room and just succumbed to the relaxing vibe of Old Key West.:goodvibes We pulled into the Animal Kingdom parking lot after 10:00. We definitely werenít alone. Here is a shot while we were waiting to go through the turnstiles.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney150.jpg

Notice Johnís Hidden Mickey book. We started searching for Hidden Mickeyís in our January trip and the kids really loved it. So John was studying up. First stop once we made it in the park.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/Photo1362FourBySix.jpg

Family photos. What else? First ride this morning was Kali River Rapids. We hadnít gone on this ride in January (for obvious reasons) so we were excited. While we waited in line we searched for Hidden Mickeys. We found some too, but the camera was already stowed away in a baggie so we donít have any pictures. Just trust me. There are Hidden Mickeyís in the Kali River ride. This was a great ride, and we all ended up wet. Some more than others, of course. From the looks of the pictures John ended up pretty wet. So after the ride guess what DH did. Picked up some fast passes. We then sent him off to Expedition Everest. We stopped at one of the Discovery Stations.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney151.jpg

These are always interesting. I often think it would be fun to try and get to all of the stations. Maybe one of these trips. Not in the summer though. This park is always too hot in the summer. Anyway we began walking toward our next destination when I spotted a Photopass guy. My boys were beginning to revolt a bit about all the picture stops. I had to think of a way to get them back on board with the Photopass thing. All of a sudden a brilliant idea popped into my head. The boys could get their own Photopass cards. Then they will feel ownership and want to use them. So I suggested it. Did they go for it?

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney158.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney159.jpg

Absolutely. They loved the idea. They loved it so much that they spent the rest of the trip forcing the Photopass photographers to take 2 sets of pictures. One with each card.:rotfl: The photographers would always look at me questioningly. I would just tell them to go with it. So here are some of the pictures we got at this session. (I say some because believe me we will have plenty of pictures for the rest of the trip.)

We eventually made it over to Dinoland. What was the plan here? Had to be Dinosaur Dumbo. Here we are

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney152.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney154.jpg

After this the boys wanted to head over to the Boneyard. For some unexplainable reason I have no pictures of the Boneyard from this trip. So here are a few from trips past.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/thurs%2018/DSC00813.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/thurs%2018/DSC00815.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/thurs%2018/DSC00817.jpg

The boys had a great time. Even Wendy thought it was OK. Eventually DH showed up and reported that he enjoyed his Expedition Everest ride. We headed out of the Boneyard. It was hot and everyone was clamoring for another ride on Kali River. Luckily we had fast passes so we headed back over. After a fun ride Wendy and I noticed some super cute flip flops in one of the shops. We both decided we must have them. So here are the shoes (a bit worse for the wear).

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/069.jpg

Tummies were rumbling. So we headed over to our favorite place to eat in the Animal Kingdom.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/jan11/disney11077.jpg

This was actually on DH’s list of must dos. It was prime lunchtime and the line was long, but we eventually got our food. And this was our view from our table.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney157.jpg

Can’t beat that.:goodvibes We’d done pretty much all we wanted to in the Animal Kingdom so we headed towards the exit. Guess what the boys spotted on the way out? A photo pass photographer and because of their very own cards they had to stop.:yay: So we have a few more photo pass pictures.

We headed away from Animal Kingdom and towards Hollywood Studios. Remember back to day 4 when we weren’t able to go on the Backlot Tour. We were going to try again. It may seem crazy to go into a park for one ride, but since we had a car it was much easier. So before we knew it we were walking in the Hollywood Studios gates. As we headed over to the Backlot tour I spotted a photo pass guy talking to a balloon guy. I saw the opportunity to get a shot that was a little different. The boys had gone ahead and it was just Wendy and I. So we stopped and got this little gem.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/Photo1415FourBySix.jpg

I love the balloon guys at Disney. Reminds me a bit of Up.:goodvibes Anyway we caught up with the boys. (DH was a bit confused because he couldn’t imagine what I stopped for. I thought he knew me better than that.) No lightning on the radar this time so we went on the ride. It was the first time for all of us and we enjoyed it. I especially liked driving through some of the areas I’d ran through last January during the marathon. Here is my only picture from the tour. (Once again I wasn’t thinking of my trip report.)

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney161.jpg

The movie costumes displayed at the end of the tour were kind of fun. Here is John with Vader.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney163.jpg

Not as scary as when he met Vader a couple of years ago.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/tuesday%2016/DSC00750.jpg

Believe it or not, that really is all we did at Hollywood Studios. The kids saw the umbrella on our walk out and insisted on pictures.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney166.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney167.jpg

We headed back to Old Key West and what did the kids want to do? Go to the Community Center. They sure do love that place (especially the boys.) Often they would ask when we were leaving the parks because they wanted to go to the Community Center. I told them we didn’t have much time there this afternoon because I had other plans, but Michael was able to get in a dart game.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney168.jpg

What were these other plans? We were headed to Downtown Disney. I just love the boat ride from Old Key West to Downtown Disney and we hadn’t done that yet this trip. So we headed over to the boat dock and hopped in. Here are some pictures from the trip.

This is such a lovely boat ride. Once we arrived where did we go? To the Lego store.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/disney171.jpg

Even though this was a budget trip the boys still had allowance they wanted to burn. After the Lego adventure we headed to dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express. I love this place. It was actually DH’s first time there which seemed incredible to me. I thought about it and realized I’d been there a couple of times on our June 2010 trip (when he stayed home to work) and on our January trip DH had taken Michael back to the hotel because he was sick after running his race. (If you want details check out the Jan. 2011 trip report.) Anyway DH agreed it was a great place. I had this delish vegie pizza.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/June2010/June21Mon/DSC02100.jpg

We saved room for dessert though. I wanted to try a Ghiradelli sundae. This did not disappoint.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/bfd3db0e-1.jpg

We were planning a Magic Kingdom evening, but as we sat eating our ice cream I was rethinking that. It had been a long, hot day already. I asked the boys how they wanted to spend the evening and they didn’t want to leave Old Key West. Wendy, on the other hand, really wanted to head to a park. I remained undecided about what we’d do. After finishing our Sundaes we stopped by Goofy’s Candy Company where we picked up some delicious Make Your Own Treats. (They make a great breakfast.) These are from last trip, but we pretty much all got the same thing again.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/June2010/June21Mon/DSC02104.jpg

After that stop, we headed back to the dock and caught the boat back to Old Key West. Then I had to make my decision about the evening. What was the verdict?

So as we arrived back at Old Key West I was still trying to decide how to spend our evening. Should we hang out and enjoy the relaxing ambiance that is Old Key West like the boys wanted? Or should we head to the Magic Kingdom for our last night in Disney like Wendy wanted? We ended up with a split decision. The boys and DH spent their evening hanging out at Old Key West’s community center and watching a movie in our spacious villa. Wendy and I headed out for a Magic Kingdom evening. Here is when I did the most shocking thing of the entire trip. Are you sitting down for this? I didn’t take my camera. On purpose.:scared1: I decided I just wanted to enjoy my evening with my beautiful daughter. Don’t worry though. I took my photo pass card.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/Photo1452FourBySix.jpg

Because I didn’t have my camera I don’t really know for sure what rides we went on that night. I do know that we enjoyed the ambience that is the Magic Kingdom. Here are a few more pictures.

It was getting late. I asked Wendy if she wanted to get a spot for Wishes and I was really surprised at her reply. “I’d rather meet the princesses.” It warmed my heart.:goodvibes Even though she is older, she still gets the magic of meeting the princesses. And she knows it is something special that we have done as mother/daughter for a long time. So the princesses it was. Here are the photos with Aurora.

Wendy has always had a special relationship with Belle. It has something to do with the name Wendy uses outside of DIS trip reports. So humor a nostalgic mother for a moment. Wendy has pretty much left the nursery, but we can still take a journey back and see her grow with Belle.:cutie:

As we were exiting the princesses we heard the fireworks. We headed out and caught the end of Wishes from the end of Main Street.

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy273/dismagiclover/June%2023%20Wed/DSC02374.jpg

Not wanting our evening to end we decided to do a little Main Street shopping. Since this was a budget trip it was just window shopping, but for Wendy window shopping is better than no shopping. The crowds did thin out a bit while we shopped. We were tired and decided to call it a night. We took one last photo pass picture.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2016/Photo1498FourBySix.jpg

Then we said goodbye to the Magic Kingdom for the trip.

Next up: Our Final Disney Day (and Duffy Questing is a big part of it.)

Thank goodness I actually was sitting down when I read this latest update. I've often thought about going into a park without a camera but I can't make myself do it.

It sounds like you and Wendy had a wonderful evening together. Cherish those "little girl and princess" moments because, believe me, I know how quickly a little girl grows up.

I love the mother/daughter night especially meeting the princesses. My little girl is 15 and I THINK she would still enjoy meeting them. I know I do. I'm glad Wendy got to go back to a park for the evening. I'll bet the boys had fun as well.

I think I may have missed an update, but I just read about your trip to DTD and then MK. What lovely pp pictures. Good for you for leaving the camera at home and going strictly photopass. That's hard to do. What a great mother/daughter trip.

Is your trip really over already???? Oh no!

Mom and I had spaghetti there in August and it is the kind of place you would like. They have some other good choices too, like roasted chicken.

It is a bit of a tradition for me and Wendy to spend an evening in the MK together and I love it.

The evening worked out well for everyone. I bet your daughter will enjoy the princesses. The time Wendy liked meeting them the least was when she was around 8 or 9 because she thought they were for babies. Now she realizes it is fun to pretend to be a kid (though I think she still is a kid.)

I'm glad we met the Princesses too! It was a busy day, but it didn't seem to hectic probably because most of the activities were relaxed and didn't involve waiting in lines.

I love looking back at the pictures of my kids growing up with the characters. Someday I think I'll do a scrapbook showing each of them growing up with their favorite characters through the years. It's fun to have those traditions.

Our last Disney day had arrived. This is always a bittersweet moment. Of course I am grateful for another great Disney vacation and the memories it brings. On the other hand we were leaving Disney!:sad2: So sad. I definitely couldnít complain too loudly though because this trip wasnít even supposed to happen. We were very slow getting moving this morning. We lounged around our spacious villa, ate breakfast (those delish Make Your Own Treats), packed and loaded up the car. We then headed out to our final park of the trip. For the Darlings that always seem to be Epcot. The boys this day had a very specific mission and I bet you can all guess what it is. Today was the day to finally complete the Duffy Quest. And they were prepared. Here they are heading to the park.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney172.jpg

They determined that on this day their Duffys needed to accompany them on their Duffy Quest. I just couldnít help but giggle as I walked behind them towards the park. And take lots of pictures. Here are a few more.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney173.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney175.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney177.jpg

So we made it through the turnstiles. Then the boys had a stop they insisted on. They needed to use their very own photo pass cards (if you remember they had been acquired the day before) to document the beginning of their quest. Thus we have these goodies.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/Photo1516FourBySix.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/Photo1519FourBySix.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/Photo1525FourBySix.jpg

I canít even imagine what that photographer must have been thinking. I doubt he takes too many photos of boys on Duffy Quests. So I assumed we would head directly to the World Showcase to complete the quest. I assumed wrong. There was something that the boys deemed more important than Duffy Quest at that moment. What could it possibly be?

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney178.jpg

That is right. The call of video games will divert even the most singularly focused 9 and 6 year old boys. So instead of strolling the World Showcase (one of my favorite past times), we were stalking the halls of Innoventions. This made Wendy happy because she had missed Innoventions because of the day 3 dehydration issues. She wanted to play the piggy bank game. So we left DH and the boys at the video games and Wendy went to earn some money for her education.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney179.jpg

After this brief detour we got back on track. We were back to our Duffy focused mission. DH didnít find as much amusement in this whole Duffy Quest as myself so we sent him off to collect fast passes or some DH thing. Iím not sure what he did, but he left us for this next little while (and Iím sure he took our tickets so he could collect as many fast passes as possible.);) While he was off doing DH stuff the boys were getting their needed Duffy fix to give them the fortitude to complete their Duffy Quest. The boys were so excited to show Big Duffy their personal Duffys.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney180.jpg

Duffy was impressed.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney185.jpg

Eventually they even let Wendy in a picture.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney187.jpg

It looks like they even let her hold the Duffy sticks for them. How kind. Here is a picture of everyone together.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney188.jpg

Notice these arenít photo pass pictures. There was no photo pass photographer with Duffy this time. Which of course bothered the boys a bit because they wanted to use those cards!:rotfl: Anyway the boys said goodbye to their inspiration and we headed on our way.

Coming up: Duffy Quest continues.

LOVED the Mother-Daughter evening out. :goodvibes Sometimes it's okay to split up on vacations. For us it's always been DH taking one kid back to a room while I hang out with the other two. It's funny how when you have three kids, two always seems like such a special thing. One is even more rare to get that one-on-one time.

:) LOVED the boys Duffy stories and photos. Too, too cute! :)

After reading your TR and a few others, I am now even more inspired to plan another Disney trip in 2012...on top of the two I already have planned! We took my oldest DS for a special trip in June 2008 and left his younger sibs behind. Now I think we may have to continue the tradition and take my DD on a similar trip since and then do the same for my DS when he reaches the same age. Seems an odd way to celebrate the end of 3rd grade for my kids, but who says we can't be different? We'll see if I get that worked out though!

We will be making our first June trip this summer...can you please give me your impressions of the weather.

Our family actually doesn't mind the hot, humid, tropical vibe...my only concern is the duration of the daily June rain. As I understand it, it usually rains daily, but mostly in mid-afternoon. Was this your experience?

Also, what were your actual vacation dates...were you early, mid or late June?

Thank you!

Some of my favorite times at Disney is when we've split up. My DH gets tired of the parks much quicker than me so he doesn't mind either. I've had great time with just 1 or 2 kids at a time quite often through the years. I think the tradition of a 3rd grade celebration trip is an excellent idea! I love our June trips. You can tell by my siggie that we've been in the fall, the winter, and 3 trips in June. The June trips believe it or not are my favorite weather rides. I love that you know exactly what to pack. No need for long pants or jackets. It does rain often in the afternoon, but usually it doesn't last longer than an hour and we never let it slow us down much. Hitting rope drop is a must because it gets so hot in the afternoon. We take an afternoon break at the resort pool or the community center. Then we head back to the parks for the evening. This past June it didn't rain much at all. I took ponchos, but I don't think we ever used them. I remember more rain on our 2 previous June trips though. Our dates for this trip were from the 10-17 I think. Our 2009 trip was 11-19. Our 2010 trip was 17-24. The later you go in June the more crowded it gets. We're used to summer crowds and know how to avoid the long lines so we don't mind them much. However, this past January we did love how easy it was to make it on rides. We actually went on Soarin without fastpasses which we would never do in June. Anyway, I love June and I'm sad I won't be there this coming June.

DH joined us around now. He must have maxed out on fast passes. Anyway weíd already completed Mexico and Norway so we were headed for China. It was hot though. Really hot. Wendy spotted a group of young women with shade umbrellas and actually stopped them to ask where they bought them. Lucky for her the answer was China. So Wendy now had a mission too. Buy a Chinese umbrella. So before we could get to our Duffy mission in China we stopped in the shop that sells umbrellas. Wendy picked one out and they wrote her name on it in Chinese. Here she is with it.

Those aren't the kids real names and Darling isn't actually our last name either. I thought it all up for the first trip report I did and it has stuck. It stuck so well that the kids actually dressed up as the Darlings for the MNSSHP last year. It was so fun!

I have to admit, being the eagle eye that I am, that I figured out the children's names were not really Wendy, John, and Michael while reading one of your previous TRs. However, I am absolutely shocked that your last name isn't really Darling. I'm actually kind of devastated. :rotfl:

I think I've told you before, but I love how your family takes it easy and doesn't rush from ride to ride (well, except for your DH's FP obsession!) and you make the time to relax at the resort :goodvibes

Great idea on getting each kid their own photopass card - I planned on the adults in our party each getting one but I didn't think of DDs getting them too. I'll have to remember that ;)

I had a feeling you would opt to spend the evening at MK with Wendy, and what a wonderful evening you had - I'm sure Wendy appreciated having your undivided attention.

That picture of Wendy with her pink umbrella is adorable! Your boys and their Duffy quest makes me laugh...good for them for accomplishing their mission :thumbsup2

Cute, cute photos! It's funny I was going to guess Le Chef de France...only because we did that same thing one time...spent our last day at EPCOT with lunch at Le Chef...and then I was reading back through your TR and saw that you did make a ressie there...so did I win??? :rotfl:
You definitely won!! Your prize is another update:laughing: Great minds think alike with those last day reservations:goodvibes

Sorry about the devestation. Back in the old days on the DIS (if you can call 2009 the old days) most people used fake names in their trip reports. You can still think of us as the Darlings. I don't mind.:goodvibes

This was the first trip report I've read of yours (I should have read previous reports, as this poster did)...you had me going! :goodvibes
I think in the very first trip report I wrote I said something in the introduction that said "For the sake of the report we'll call DD Wendy Darling" or something like that. So it was pretty obvious in that first report. Now it seems natural to call them that here on the DIS. The kids even read the reports sometime and they think it's normal too.

That picture of Wendy IS absolutely adorable!!!! That needs a frame. It's a keeper!

I do love that picture of Wendy. You are right. It does deserve a frame of its own. Or at least a print.

One of the great things about going so frequently is that it removes that sense of urgency. Sure we like rides, but we don't need to be on one every minute. The boys and I especially just like wandering around and exploring. DH and Wendy are a bit more focused on getting those rides in, but I have to say they are a bit more focused in real life too. My birthday trip is coming in January and it is just DH and I. I've warned him that rides are not a priority for me. I'm planning on doing a lot of smelling the roses. I have no problem if he leaves me to go on rides. He insists he is OK with just smelling the roses with me, but we shall see.:rolleyes1

We headed for our ADR in France. This was the ADR we made because DVC members get a 20% discount at lunchtime. It was nice to walk into the air conditioning. Even though we were a bit early they had no problem seating us. We enjoyed our lunch very much. DH especially enjoyed the onion soup. He still sometimes talk about that onion soup. During lunch we had a visitor.

We were happy to see Remy. After our enjoyable leisurely lunch we ambled back towards the main entrance. We had to stop for a photo pass picture on the bridge over the English Channel (the bridge between France and the UK).

This is my favorite family shot of the trip. Then we had to make a stop in the UK for the requesite Hob Nobs.

This is something I get every trip and donít ever share very well.:rolleyes1 I think we then used some Soarin fast passes acquired earlier by DH. Then we slowly made our way towards the front of Epcot. As always I tried to savor those last few minutes. As we walked by the ball the kids pointed out that we hadnít ridden Spaceship Earth this trip. So we hopped on for a ride through the past. Then we were shown our future.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/troyjens/2011/June%2017/disney220.jpg

There was nothing else to keep us from leaving.:sad2: We really needed to get on the road so we werenít driving too late. But wait! As we headed towards the exit, the boys started to clamor about using the photo pass cards one more time. So we got this final shot of the boys.

An appropriate summing up of the boysí trip I would say. We headed to the car and said goodbye to Disney property. Our annual passes expired at midnight that evening, but by that time we were snoozing in a nondescript hotel in Georgia (or maybe it was South Carolina.) We finished the ride home the next day. It wasnít the most extravagant trip weíd ever taken, but it was a great bonus trip. I would definitely recommend a last minute budget trip. A week in Disney with those you love the best is better than a week pretty much anywhere else.:goodvibes

Looks like a great way to end a fun trip! Those last moments are always a little bittersweet though. At least the boys got to finish their Duffy mission. Your PP obsession must be rubbing off on them too!!!

Do you have a picture of Wendy's name on the umbrella? I would love to see what it looks like! :goodvibes

Those last moments are always bittersweet. Especially because we won't all go back together for quite a while! I don't have a picture of Wendy's name on the umbrella. I'll try to remember to take one for you.

I love the umbrella and Duffy pictures too. By the time we go next I really doubt the boys will be as excited about the characters so that will make me really cherish those Duffy pictures.

What a great way to end your trip! Thank you so much for sharing another trip with us. :thumbsup2
Thanks for following along! DH and I are headed back soon for another race trip. I'm not sure if I'll do a trip report or not. Life has just gotten so busy lately.

Great final entry to your trip report. Sounds like a great trip. I think it's definitely something we'll try to do in the future too as I think we could manage a budget trip! :)
Budget trips definitely beat no trips! We've decided not to go back as a family until Summer 2013. Knowing me I'll try to squeeze another budget trip in before that. (Without APs budget trips are tough though!)

Catching up....again.:goodvibes

I hope you get all the Photopass pics you want next trip! They are really fun and it makes trip reporting much easier. Though I'm thinking we'll skip Photopass in January. How many pictures do I want of just me and DH.
