Our cruise is the 31st and I was planning on getting a six pack of soda and beer before we come to the port. Friends of our went in May and they had all coolers taken from them before they boarded? Any feedback?

Had friends sail in August. It was highlighted in their docs that coolers were prohibited and they also observed them being confiscated.

so is it better just to carry the cans on ourselves instead of trying to have them checked in?

Since I don't take beverages on board with me I'm not sure. But I guess from all of this I wouldn't try to take a cooler.

Were the coolers soft sided or hard?

We took a soft sided cooler with us in January with no problem. Out stateroom host kept ice in it for us.:)

We weren't allowed to 'check' with our other luggage- the porter said it was because they had had problems with drinks leaking. But we rolled it on board as a carry on.

We took a soft sided cooler on wheels with us this year on the 7/6 Western filled with wine and soda and we wheeled it right on board, no questions asked or problems. We saw lots of people with soft sided coolers and some actually had cases of water and soda just strapped to small luggage carriers that they pulled on board.

We carry beer, soda, whatever right on. They don't seem to care at all. We use the beverage cooler right in the room but also bring a soft sided cooler that we keep 6 or 8 in with ice at a time. The stateroom hostess would drain and refill...she was great. By the way, the easiest way for us...pack the softsided in your luggage.

We too brought along a softsided cooler. We actually checked it in at the port with a twelve pack inside along with beach toys and some beach towels. In additiion I carried on a another twelve pack and had no problems. I was prepared to be told I could not bring a cooler, but not a word was said. In fact the guy who took our bags joked with me about the fact he could use a cold one. Once on board the cooler in our stateroom took care of keeping the beer cold. When heading to the pools, we simply took the ice out of our ice bucket and put it into a wine bucket that our steward gave us and took a couple of cans with us. I can't imagine that you are going to have any problems either.
