Too cool !! Got the name of the soldier that my Girl Scout troop will be supporting!! How exciting! I am already making plans for the first care package. I haven't told the rest of the troop, but my daughter is excited!

Once a week we will be sending him a card or a letter written by the girls and at least once a month we will send him a "care package" of magazines, soap, snacks, sunscreen, etc.

It is your job basically to provide moral support while he is on deployment.:)

You can send a request for a soldier at http://www.adoptaplatoon.org

I think there are other programs out there, too, for Air Force, Navy, Marines, etc but I don't know those ones.

How cool! My son is a brand new Tiger Scout and I have a friend in the Marines who is soon to be shipping out....hmmm...this gives me a good idea! :)

That is a great idea! Not that I want to copy your troop but i think I'll see if my girls would like to do that. Keep us updated.

When I was a Junior during the Gulf War we did the same thing. The Soldier was very touched to receive things from us, his letters of thanks made us all realize how nice it is to live in the USA. Your Troop should have a great time doing this.

Hmmm, can you imagine if the DIS adopted a platoon? Do you think the soldiers would like a lot of Disney stuff???? LOL

Well, my kids just informed me that they want to adopt a soldier too, so I guess we'll be adopting as a family too! :)
