For the first time in my life I saw my dad break down and cry tonight. When i asked him why he said he "misses" me. He's absolutely right. I live in the same house but I never hug him/kiss him/talk to him anymore. I feel so horrible. Seeing him cry made me want to yank all the hair out of my head. I've really been distant from both my parents lately. I've never felt so bad in my entire life as i do tonight.

If my dad ever saw me kiss him on the cheek, he'd probably think he was dead and gone already.

Don't feel bad, Von. Why don't the 2 of you have lunch together one day this week?:)

My dad died unexpectedly about 13 years ago. Don't take your parents for granted. Life is short. Say what you feel and show them that you care while you can.

Sounds like you are halfway there already, just by posting to us. Now, reach out to them.

That was your wake up call, be thankful that you got it while he's still here to correct it :)

{{HUGS}} to you.

Everyone said it so well, go for it. Sit and talk with him, give him a hug. You won't regret it.

{{{Hugs}}} to you and your dad.

I know you must feel bad, but consider that you must have a much closer relationship than most fathers and daughters if he felt okay with telling you that. You obviously must get along great, and I'm sure that he'll feel better now that you're aware of the problem.

Be happy that he was still around to tell you. Don't dwell on the past, look to the future! :)

Awe, that is wonderful. He made the first step.

Now you can give him a hug and start a new, closer relashionship with him.

Your lucky he's still around, I wish my Dad was still alive.

How lucky you both are:D

I agree, everyone has said it very well. I have not seen me natural father since 1990, that's 12 years, and that meeting wasn't pleasant. He's not dead, he's just not in my life. I have always wanted to have a dad that really missed me when I wasn't around. Don't let this opportunity slip away, let him know you care.

Don't let this opportunity pass you by. Reach out and bond with him again.

I'm not close with my Dad but that's by his choice. As far as he was concerned the day I turned 18 that was the end of his responsibility and relationship with me.

My mom died the week after I turned 21. My DS's don't have a true set of grandparents, only adoptive ones.

It will be okay...bless you both.

My dh has been having some difficulty with his relationship with our dd lately. She's 17 now and her once adored daddy has become a source of embarrassment to her. I heard him ask her the other day "Ashli, what happened to our relationship?" I know it's just a stage she's going through but it is really hard on him and i'll be glad when it's over.
