Okay - I have to say that after our mega DIS meet this weekend, and that the weather is getting colder so I'm starting to do the closet clothes switch, I have begun packing!!! What I am curious about is what is the dress for like the big dinner and the Illuminations party??? I know the mini-meets and other stuff is probably casual - like the opening reception as people may be flying in after coming back from the parks and I'm assuming the closing breakfast too as people may be off to the parks right after. But I need to know if I need to pack at least one really nice outfit for either the dinner or the Illumi party. Thanks for the ideas in advance!!!

Please don't make me dress up!!! :(
Last year, things were very casual. I am planning the same this year. Every day there is so much to do and you are on the go all the time. There will be nothing fancy in my suitcase! (Except for my tiara, if course ;))
Depending on the weather, it will be shorts or jeans and casual tops. Hope that helps!

I was thinking it might be kinda fun to show up at the picnic dinner in tux and tails. ;)
Chris, everything is very casual, except of course for the tiara'd Grand Tea and the fun hat Fantasyland meet. I haven't bought any new clothes in years, so if you want to find me, just look for the guy who looks like a street person. ;)

Disney is casual...totally up to you what you want to wear.........if the weather cooperates shorts and t shirts, if it is cold, slacks and shirts, i.e. turtlenecks, sweaters.. etc.. that is what we did last year.. some people wore dresses...totally up to the individual..
Some people wore dresses?!?!? Holy cow! How'd I miss that?!??!;) :p I had no idea anyone dressed up. Where the heck was I????
Chris, I took jeans, shorts, tees and tanks and had no trouble fitting those things into my wardrobe for the week I was there. Everything was very casual. :teeth:

Even at the tea we were in shorts and jeans (and sundresses ;) ), but the tops of some of our heads were very dressy! ;)
Bring a fun/festive/'say something' HAT for the Fantasyland meet. :) :) :) Or you can be like me and find something the day before, at WDW. ;)

I wore shorts to the tea last year. I think I wore jeans to the Illuminations Dessert. I didn't dress fancy for anything :)

No 'official' events for me this year, but do recall from the ones I was at last year, it was Disney casual. Only thing to remember is the time of the year, keep your eye on that forcast come late Nov, getting an idea of that 1st week in Dec. It can be cold at night, http://www.plauder-smilies.de/person/krank.gif especially by the water, like the Illum event is.

I plan to pack... jeans, shorts, and t shirts. Maybe one or two nicer shirts. If I need to dress up for an event... I am not going. :) WDW is about relaxing.
I'm in total agreement with Dixie Dreamer......if I had to get "dressed up" for something at DIS Con, I just wouldn't go (to that 1 event).
Chris..Last year I wore pants/jeans to everything. Always felt perfectly well dressed.

Hey, Corinne...I might feel the same way but there's no way I'm missing the official DISCON, so if I have to wear a tuxedo...I'm there!

If it calls for "Holster and High Heels" I'll be wearing them. I have no problem getting dressed up.
But it sounds like "anything goes." Don't sweat it.

Everyone is right. Everything was very casual. I just wore casual shorts or pants and polo shirts and walking shoes.
Most DISers either came from the themeparks before or after an event.
The opening reception was very casual with many solo DISers meeting at EPCOT for a greet and meet and lunch at Norway.
At the opening reception, there were large round tables that everyone just sat down or walked around greeting and introducing each other. Then Pete Werner gave away some door prizes, showed a short movie about the way the DISboards were going to improve. Then a lot of DISers hung around talked. Others walked to watch Illuminations. And everyone ended up at Jellrolls on the Boardwalk.
The breakfast was casual, too, and then everyone headed to the parks.
The Illuminations dessert party was no different.
This year the dinner is going to be a beachside type party.
Everything was casual.
As for the weather, we were very lucky last year.
I remember one December, it was warm with the sun out during the day. And during the night it got chilly, very windy, and with the sun down, some people wore jackets and gloves during the EPCOT Candlelight Processional.
I now take my gloves just incase...lol. At least on sweater and light jacket just for layering durin the day or night depending on the weather.
Otherwise all my clothes were casual and short sleeves.
But you can wear what ever you want.
I should go to bed...lol...after working 16 hours last night.
But that's what happens when I drink eight cups of coffee...lol.

This sounds like a challenge. I think I need to go shoe shopping.
And do pack the cape :)
