I just found out on the CNN website that Stephen Ambrose, one of my favorite authors, passed away.

I was fortunate to meet and talk with him twice over the past few years

Besides being the author of "Band of Brothers" and many other historical works, he was a driving force behind the National D-Day museum in New Orleans

I'm feeling a bit bummed right now :(

He was only 66. :( I didn't know he had lung cancer. DH is a fan of his books.

I hadn't heard this news so thanks for posting it.

I'm aware of the accusations and the fact that they are most likely true. This thread was not started to discuss that issue, but I guess that is my fault for not putting up a disclaimer. I thought we could wait until the corpse was cold, at least.

I liked what he did on Lewis and Clark. Too sad.

The man was an incredile author. Spielburg's use of Ambrose and his work is one of the reasons that Private Ryan was such and rivetting and gut wrenching film.

I didn't know til you posted, though C-SPAN was running old interviews last night - that explains it.
Another "Band of Brothers" reunion was just held this past weekend in Phoenix. I wonder if he made it.

Grog-I wasnt trying to hi-jack any thread and im not trying to!!
I just responded in a factual manner about the author. I wasnt aware that just because he died he should be considered for sainthood and we arent allowed to post factual statements about his career. When a author is accused of what Ambrose is that taint 's his creditability and shouldnt be forgotten just because he died.
And it always feels great to post something truthful!!

I never said anything about Sainthood. I just happen to think there was not reason for you to try to turn this into a thread bashing him. Ambrose admitted to his mistakes (intentional or not, we will never know......unless you were reading over his shoulder while he wrote the works in question, which I doubt) which is a lot more than most people in the public eye would do. You may now go ahead and continue on with whatever your adgenda here is. I won't be checking back.
