There wasn't a 2011 thread started so I volunteered to start one. I don't have any Black Friday rumors yet but I have started my 2011 Holiday Shopping. The Target Toy Clearance is in full swing and I think K-Mart also is having a Toy Clearance event. Please share any information you have heard for 2011 Holiday shopping season.

Also if you are looking for a specific item let us know maybe someone can help you locate the best deal.

This year the big things on my list are a TV for DH, PSP for DS12, Bike for DD, and maybe a nook for myself!

I checked a few Black Friday sites and no ads posted yet. They started in late July last year so we should start seeing rumors or ads pop up in the next few weeks. :santa:

I am so here! Can't wait to start sale shopping for Christmas. I don't really know what we are in the market for yet, but the more I save the better. I managed to find some great stuff last year thanks to the thread here. Here's hoping for fantastic deals! :)

I have a good start on Christmas this year!! My daughter is DONE, IPAD2 and a disney princess dooney. I have about 1/3 to 1/2 for my grandsons and am really hoping for some great BF sales.

I'll be looking forward to following this thread!!:thumbsup2

I'm in.

Right now, I have no idea. We're looking for a king size bed. Do they have bed sales on Black Friday?

Don't need anything electronics (although my ATT contract will be up soon, and I'm looking to upgrade to an iPhone. Hoping to get that before BF).

Last year, we overbought for our DGD2 (3 before Christmas). She hasn't even touched some of the presents bought last year. So we may rewrap and give them to her this year.

Don't even know where we're going to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Two years ago, we spent it with DD in Shreveport, LA. We usually spend it with my in-laws in Tennessee. We may stay home this year. In any event, BF is always more expensive in Tennessee. It's a 30 mile round trip from her place to the nearest mall. Plus sales tax is 4% more than almost anyplace else.

Hi! I'm subbing & plan on joining. Last year was my first Black Friday experience and it was crazy. This year we are planning on having my cousin watch our kids so we can go together.

I already started holiday/birthday (my son's birthday is December 12th) shopping at Target. I've picked up a few cute things from the dollar section + their toy clearance.

I'm in!

1. Looking for anice camera in the $200-300 range for me. If there are any recommendations at this time let me know and I'll jot the names down. I'm looking for a nice zoom, so if I'm taking pictures from a distance for school functions I'll get a clear picture and know who the picture is of.

2. Sterling silver earrings for a niece and SIL.

3. DD9 wants an ipod station for her room.

If anyone is interested, what kept me sane last year was FlyLady's Holiday Control Journal.

Woohoo! Loved this thread last year. :goodvibes Though I got to Walmart before midnight last year and staked out my spot, at 4'11" I was not able to fight through the flash crowd to get much at midnight. Or maybe my fear of being trampled by people who wouldn't even see me held me back. lol. Maybe I can do better this year.

Can't wait!! I only started black friday shopping 2 years ago and now I do it every year, I don't usually get at the front of the line but I have only walked out without minor things on my list. My husband works for Target so that is where I got first, I drop him off for work and hang out till it opens, I think I will bring a camera this time lol got to watch a linebacker looking fella and his mother told by police to leave the parking lot because they shoved someone. :rotfl:

I'm in! I love BF, it's a tradition for my sister, mom and I so we do it every year. Last year we did well and got everything on our list including a hot ticket item at Target (TV). This year I think we will be looking for more electronics, but we will see as we get closer to the holidays.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one looking forward to BF. :goodvibes I go every year, sometimes by myself and sometimes with my mom. We also love hitting up Meijer and Old Navy on Thanksgiving Day. I usually get all of my shopping done during these two days. Although I did buy a few items already because Target had legos on clearance and I can't pass up legos 50% off. Patiently waiting for our first ad. :surfweb:

Me too!!! Only our TRU opened at 10pm. I was in line at 8:30. After TRU we hit Wal-Mart for midnight, grabbed a snack at Dunkin Donuts at 2am, dropped stuff off at home, online shopping then in line for 3:30am for 4am Target opening, then to KMart for 5am....home by 8am...AHHH. Put up the fake tree at 4pm only to find out it was broken so then I was back at Kmart at 7pm.

I can't wait to do it again!! I totaled up sale price verses regular and realized I saved $450. Totally worth a sleepless night.:goodvibes

Well DD gave me her first wish list items, a doggie saucer chair from Justice. So I am debating do I get it now using my 40% off coupon or hold out? I don't think I am going to get it less then the 40% off coupon and I would hate for them to not have any later on. The chair is not cheap either. Why did we ever venture into this store.

I also heard that Target will be marking their clearance toys down to 75% off tomorrow so I think I may just have to go check it out and see what other goodies I can find.

Anybody heard any rumors of what the hot items are going to be this year?

I am really excited for Black Friday!!!! I am really wanting to do American Girl Site again - I got some great deals for my daughter last year (it was our 1st year with AG) - Other then that I will be looking for gifts for family and friends and usually decide what to get them based on what is on sale!!!

Love Toys R Us too - but I will admit I will not stand in line for hours... LOL

For the last few years, I have started Black Friday at Walmart. I don't usually get there until about 4 or 4:30. I think this year I may be there for their midnight sales too. Last year was the first time that our Walmart did the midnight sales. There were some problems. I met a lot of people in line for the 5 am sales. They told me that a few women had grabbed up buggy full of the specials so few people got any of them. I saw a couple grabbing a buggy full of some of the electronics. I have been told by some of the employees that they may consider limits

gracie1
07-28-2011, 07:31 AM
Our walmart has limits on a lot of stuff on black friday. Also, when they opened at midnight the items that didn't go on sale till 4:30am and so on were guarded by workers. They had aisles set up that people sat in for 4 hours. While I would do that for an awesome deal....I won't for like $20

heatherwillmom
07-28-2011, 07:52 AM
Our local Walmart had the things that didn't go on sale until 5, on a pallet wrapped in plastic. When they announced over the loud speaker that it was 5am, there was an employee at each of these pallets with a box cutter. They cut the plastic & jumped back. That's when the frenzy started. I don't know if all Walmarts do this the same, but our local WM scatters things through the store instead of all of the electronics being in the electronics department. They give you a map when you come in. It does help with crowd control

Hey, I just saw that someone mentioned AG sale online last year. Can you elaborate? Was it Friday morning, or did they wait until cyber-Monday? What kind of deals? (% off, or just free shipping?)

My DDs both got AG dolls (Lanie) for x-mas last year, so an AG sale is right up my alley! They would both like another doll this year, but I'm not sold. I think more clothes/acessories/furniture would open up their play possibilities more than another doll.

TIA!!

Oh, btw, count me in
Just started BF shopping 2 years ago, and I'm hooked. My problem is finding someone to be at my house with my sleeping children. Last year I managed to get their father to keep them overnight, but I'm not sure I can manage 2 years in a row. Maybe my 15 year old somtimes-babysitter can sleep over.

I went shopping last year and came home with a turtle neck. That was it!! :lmao: I do most of my shopping before black friday, and most of the stuff I get are not on black friday sales. We have all the major electronics so we don't need any of that.

But I still go out just to see what I can find.
Oh, I forgot to add, in addition to my turtlenecks I bought new pillows for the bed!!

I am so glad I found other BF junkies! I love BF shopping. DH thinks I'm crazy but he doesn't understand how much fun it is. For me, BF gets me in the Christmas mood.

This year I have my sights set on a set of upright washer and dryers. Keeping my fingers crossed that Sears will come through for me!!

Yep! That store frustrates me and I have two girls who wear their clothes. I'm suppose to go shopping with them this weekend to start getting stuff that will sell out quickly for back to school and it's hard to keep them focused. (I'm having surgery next Wednesday, so I have to start now and right after I recover.)

Anyway, the kids head straight for the junk section in the back. They can get it only if they bring their own money.

KMart is having 50% off their clearance price this week. There was a container of legos for $6. These were just regular legos - no theme. They also had some Harry Potter legos on clearance (train and Weasley home), but my store didn't have any of those. But yours might.

I have already started shopping and am looking forward to BF!!! Although, by Black Friday I am usually done Christmas shopping (as far as toys go) and am looking ahead to birthdays! :rotfl:

I do not have a long list yet, but will be looking at clothes for my siblings, and toys for the niceces and nephews. Between the clearance sales at Kmart and Target this week, DS is basically done except for that one thing that he decides he HAS to have a few weeks before Christmas. :goodvibes

Well I got some good deals at the Target Toy Clearance yesterday. I have all of my neices and nephews done and I started on my kids.

I also started on my list for the kids.

DS10 wants a guitar and I am sure he is going to want new hockey gear so maybe I can get the guitar on sale during BF. I think Toys R Us had the best deal last year on them. He also loves stuff from Old Navy, which I hit up on Thanksgiving Day instead of BF.

DS12 most likely is going to want a PSP not sure what else

DD7 wants a new bike, DS game system (just need to figure out if should get her 3D or not); Dog chair from Justice; she needs lugage even if she doesn't want it. ;)

I got the boys luggage last year at Kohls for great deal so hoping to get her same this year. My boys also love getting new shoes and Kohls had a great sale as well on them.

I usually don't go for the HOT items but I always find deals on things we need. (like pillows)

How early do you guys buy electronics?? I plan on getting my mom a nook color and am planning on buying it early with rewards points. I just worry about the warranty!

If I end up buying an electronic item this early, I usually buy a warranty through square trade (luckily they run 30% off sales often). Of course if I do get an electronic item this early its because I found it at a great price so buying the warranty isn't a budget buster.

I do not go out on BF, but I do love all the online sales. This year my dd wants a Nintendo 3DS so I may venture out this year if there is a great deal somewhere. She also asked for a Macbook but thats not happening.
My dses are so so easy, Legos, video games, and Nerf. I've already started and will be done with them before BF.

Thanks! I plan on buying the extended 2 year warranty. Maybe I will hold off on that until October or November. I have staples rewards so some rewards expire before others. I have some rewards now so maybe I will buy the case and screen protector for the nook color, and then get the nook color later on.

I should do the online bf sales! I haven't done those before. I am already working on what my christmas decorations are going to be.

Oh, count me in! I'm not telling DH I joined this thread. He already thinks I'm nuts. I have been shopping since December 26, 2010 for this Christmas. I am nearly done with the whole thing! Yay! Here's what I've got:

DS6: : Mickey hoodie, Space Mtn blocks, Buzz Lightyear duffels, Superhero Squad comforter, Perry backpack, Perry Lunch box, Perry hat, Perry Plush, Bulls-eye flashlight, Transformer car, flash cards, Brio Block Set, Spiderman Car, WWE figure, Iron Man Costume, Disney silly bands, clothes

DS4:Mickey hoodie, Space Mtn blocks, Buzz Lightyear duffels, Superhero Squad comforter, Thomas LeapFrog computer, Perry backpack, Perry Lunch box, Perry hat, Perry Plush, Rex flashlight, Dinos, Batman Car, Caterpillar truck, Tigger and Pooh stage, Iron Man Costume, Disney silly bands, clothes

Both Boys: : Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer game, John Denver Christmas CD, Lincoln Logs, Crayola Spray art, movies

Everything I have I have gotten 60% or more off! Go me! I can't post everyone else's stuff here; they would peek!

Count me in... It is a tradition with my MIL and SIL to go shopping on BF. However, I'm the only one that still needs TRU, and since it opens early, I normally go there first.

We have a tradition that on Thanksgiving, we cook at my house. After lunch is cleaned up and the dining room table is clear, we spread out the papers and start are plotting. Since we are all kind of into needing to go to different stores, we make a list of who needs what from where. We wind up shopping independently and calling/texting each other. We then meet for breakfast and have to give each other purchases we made for the other and straightening out money. It's crazy but fun. The year my daughter was born, my husband insisted that he helped shop for her. I couldn't get him to understand that BF was not for browsing, but for grabbing and go. He's never been back. The one experience traumatized him.

:lmao:Men are so clueless! I was going by myself one year and my dad asked if he could meet me there, because he knew he wouldn't stay as long as I was. We went into the Michael Kors outlet and this woman had 4 handbags and my dad told her she must have a lot of money to put in those bags. I thought she was going to punch him in the face:lmao: He was amazed at how much people spent in those stores!! LOL!

Oh, how I understand this! The time I took my DH, I was 7 months pregnant and my MIL insisted that I shouldn't go alone. So, my darling DH said he'd go. He didn't understand that when I said I wanted to be at the store at 3 am I meant it. He didn't understand when I sent him off to get the down comforter that I wanted him to go DIRECTLY there and grab one. I think I only got 1 of the huge list of things I wanted. He really was awful! He swore he would never go again. And he never has. I think he was afraid I might beat him to death if he ever attempted to do BF with me again. Now I go with Mom.
I did, however, find a use for DH on BF. He is a killer shark with the on-line BF deals!

I think the thing that really did him in was the lady that still had curlers in her hair at 5 a.m. that kept pushing her cart into him. LOL! Yeah, I told him "go get this" and "go get this"... And, I got neither. When we finally got out of TRU, he looked and me and asked could he leave. Thank goodness, I was smart enough to get us to drive separate. He packed the car with my purchases and left quickly.

Love shopping BF! It's the adrenaline rush!

I don't remember if DS.com had BF specials, but they had a Cyber Monday discount. If I recall, they had free shipping, too! I took advantage of the CM discount and bought several Dooney & Bourke items.

Count me in for BF shopping! Not sure what I have to get yet, but DD is starting college this fall and because of tuition, I'll be pinching pennies. DS & his wife are purchasing their first home soon and will probably need something for their new home.

This is one reason I don't like people to go with me on BF. Because if there is something I plan on buying for them, I can't because their with me.

I think I have pretty much finished my shopping list, but I need some ideas on what to get my dad. He is so hard to buy for it's not even funny.
Any ideas?? He doesn't like computers or anything technology related. Doesn't read books. Doesn't know how to use or want a dvd player.
I hate getting him the same thing every year, a pair of shoes or coat and lowes giftcards. I was thinking of getting him flatscreen tv, even though he has no interest in them either. I really hate buying for him at christmas:lmao:

I'm in! BF is my favorite day of the year :) Although I don't think I'm looking for much this year....Both DS and DH want iPad's, so hopefully someone has them discounted or with a gift card. And I need to upgrade DS's board game collection. He's outgrown kid games and Jr. versions, so I'll be looking for regular classics (Monopoly, Clue, etc). Additionally, we always pick up cheap DVD's on BF.

We already have one of these. And a Bunn coffee maker. He does like coffee, so I have him 2 gift cards for Starbucks ($10 each). Maybe I will buy him some coffee as well. I know he like coffee at work. And my mom got us two coffee mugs off qvc where the coffee stays hot for over 4 hours and doesn't spill. Maybe I can get him one of those. I am in! I love BF shopping - even though this is a tough year and we aren't doing many gifts. I have started budgeting by buying gift cards every pay day from Plasticjungle.com. I always, for example, buy stocking stuffers and teacher hand sanitizer from Bath & Body Works on BF. Plastic Jungle has the B&BW gift cards 12% off. I usually hit up all the same stores, so I know what cards to pre-buy.

That's wonderful! December is busy for us because DS10's birthday is Dec. 30th, and DD birthday is Dec. 24th. So not only do I have Christmas I have two Birthday's as well. Love adoption stories like that! One of ours (DD) was a private adoption, and one (DS) was thru an agency and we have an open adoption with his birthfamily.

Love BF too because my birthday is Christmas day (even though that's on my DH to buy for :)), and then DD is Jan 7, and have a nephew that is Dec 29. So, lots of birthdays within a week or two plus Christmas, so love the BF savings!

What type of deals are you looking for? We had some good ones on computers. Laptops for <$300. I have not kept an eye on LCD TV's but I don't think of those as back to school items.

Last week Target had a sale where they gave you a $25 gift card when you puchased an 8gb iPod touch. Apple forces retailers to sell their products as a set price so the iPod itself will never go on sale. The best you'll ever find is a deal where you get something free when you buy an iPod.

On the positive side, I read online that with the financial crisis here most people are saving rather than spending. It's going to force retailers to cut prices to lure in consumers. So hopefully we'll have a good BF after all!

We don't get to buy School Supplies. We give the school $20 per child and they provide all the supplies. I would prefer to buy them myself. Staples has been having their 1 Cent sale for a few weeks now, I think this week it is notebook paper, limit of 6 and is only good I think until today. Target has also been having a good sale on school supplies.

I can't wait until our first BF ad to be posted. I am hoping for some great deals. The temps have been in the high 70's this week and it is starting to feel like fall. I love Fall and it really gets me in the mood for the holidays coming up.

FWIW my dd13 loves her ipod touch and uses it all the time, for the apps and listens to Pandora for music. She has an older one and wants a current generation so she can use the face time and camera for videos. She said she doesn't care if she gets anything else for Christmas (which is exactly what she said 2 years ago when she got her first ipod touch ).

My 11 year old daughter got her Ipod touch for Christmas last year and she loves it. She hardly ever uses your DSi any longer. Last week a friend of ours was letting her play on his iPad, so I see that becoming a must on her list very shortly, but this year my girls are getting Disney tickets for Christmas.

So, I am only looking for a few smaller gifts for them this year. Last year Wal-Mart had the $50 itunes gift cards for $35, so I am hoping for a repeat of that this year. I am also looking for a set of luggage for my DD17. Last year on BF I was able to pick up a 5 pc set at Penny's for $35. Wal-Mart started their Saturday pre-BF sales the 2nd Sat of Nov. for the past few years. That is where I have been able to pick up 2 laptops and the itunes cards without having to stand outside in the cold! So, I really hope that they do it again this year.

My DS wants and iPod touch for Christmas so I've been watching the prices for a few months.

Turns out, they are coming out with a new one in October. New model = high demand = hot item. Depending on how many were produced, it may be hard to find. With Apple you just never know!

In my experience, when a new iPod was coming out, stores quietly reduced the price of the older model and kept it there until it sold out. This happened to me when I tried to buy my iPod touch 2 years ago. I had to wait until I could get my hands on a new one.

I checked online and right now the current 8gb iPod is selling on Amazon, Target, and Walmart.com for $204. That's a $25 price reduction. They won't go much cheaper. The only deal you may find is in store to purchase the iPod at full price (8gb for $229) and they will give you a store credit for $25. Target ran that special 3 weeks ago. Toys R Us ran it 2 weeks ago.

I went ahead and ordered for my DS. With the new model coming out, I'm scared that I won't be able to find one for Christmas. That's all he wants so I'm not taking any risks!

I went ahead and ordered for my DS. With the new model coming out, I'm scared that I won't be able to find one for Christmas. That's all he wants so I'm not taking any risks!

My DS wants one as well. Is the 8gb big enough? I was thinking he would need 32gb but not sure. Now I am wondering if I should wait and try to get new version or just get current model?

Veteran BF'er here! Love the mass choas and fabulous deals!

Strange buy for BF, I know. But, like a few others, we really want a new King mattress. Anyone think those will have great deals? Or nothing other than the usual "sale"?

Also, need suggestions on a good one. Heard Sealy wasn't the best. Some swear by sleep number, others not....argh. What about temperpedic ones? Jaunting around with my DH at stores and laying on beds and blah-blahing with store salesmen sounds like a rather miserable day, and does it really tell you anything in the short minutes you sit/lay on a mattress? Open to all suggestions and help!

Many thanks!

We really need a new mattress as well . I hate buying a mattress. I am not picky but my DH is so I have decided that I will give him a budget and he can go buy what he wants and deal with the sales people.

What is everyone's favorite BF store? I love Kohls and Target. If I could only go to two stores these would be the ones I go to. I love the fact though that some stores are open on Thanksgiving day. I hit up Old Navy now on Thanksgiving day so I don't have to fight those crowds on BF. I also go to Mejier and Gander Mountain on Thanksgiving day. It works out great because I host breakfast and then the kids always go with my in-laws to their house to help my father in law cook dinner, my husband takes a nap and I go shopping. When I get home I hide everything, wake up DH and we go to his parents house for dinner. I eat, visit for a little and then head home to catch some shut eye before heading to Kohls at 3:00 AM. I am excited just thinking about it. :rotfl2:

we don't have target, kohl's, gander mtn. or meijer. the biggie here is wal-mart. we also have a k-mart, old navy, walgreens, cvs, sears and jcpenney. that's pretty much it.
i'm hoping for some sort of sale on either a laptop or iPod Touch. i'm sure wal-mart will have cheap laptops, but i REALLY don't want to fight that mob.

i know, it's hard to believe. :lmao: the closest target is an hour away. if we decide on the laptop, we'll likely try to snag a good deal from amazon or bestbuy.com, because i'm just not a stand-in-line-all-night kinda girl. i tried it once, and almost froze to death, and the woman in front of me spent HOURS talking to her husband on one of those stupid, chirping sprint phones. i wanted to smack her upside the head.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. I am ready for the sales to start. I did end up picking up a few things from Barnes and Noble with a coupon and free shipping along with a birthday outfit for DD from Gymboree. She always asks for a new outfit for her birthday and she loves dogs and their theme is Pups and Kisses this year. I used the 30% off Friends and Family code to help with the cost but it still cost around $50 for the shirt, pants, socks, and hair pieces to match. Oh well she only gets the outfit and one or two other gifts for her birthday so its not too bad.

We aren't really planning to buy a lot for Christmas, but I'll keep my eye out for the following things:

1. discounts on gift cards (I think Toys R Us had Itunes gift cards on sale last year...)

2. Apple Tv - This is probably the main gift DH and I will get. (I know Apple products don't go on sale, but maybe it'll come with a free gift card??)

* Last year my DH got me a Macbook Pro at Best Buy on Black Friday. Paid full price, but the special was it came with a $125 Best Buy gift card!

3. DVDs on blue ray, other stocking stuff type items

I arrange the Adopt A Family Program for my work and we usually submit our requests for the number of children we will adopt in Oct. That is when the excitement really begins. I usually have the wish lists for the families in early Novemeber and then what ever is left to buy for the families I usually get done on Black Friday of course along with my stuff. Thank goodness I have a big SUV. I have no clue how I got all of the bags of goodies I bought last year, along with DH Gun Safe, the boys foosball table, and DD Trampoline in the truck but I did. :worried:

So, here's the thing... there's a group that was not much more than a one-hit-wonder back when I was younger, but they are honestly pretty talented, and I still love their music, even if they aren't as much fun to look at these days as back when they were young and beautiful. I've ALWAYS wanted to see them in concert, back in their mega-theater days, and still these days, and never have. They live on the west coast... well, they're doing a couple of east-coast shows in November. I was actually SERIOUSLY considering driving 5 states (tiny, northern states) to see their 27 November show in CT, but they added one in Pennsylvania, practically next door, on the 25th... and I found out right away and got 5th row seats...

So... Now I'm dying to find out what the sales will be so I can try to prioritize them... that or I'm thinking of driving to PA Thursday night after dinner, finding a hotel, and hitting the sales THERE, before napping before the concert... but then who would watch the kids. Argh.

Well it looks like DH and I are going to get tickets to see one of our favorite comedians since he will be in town on Dec. 26th. So that will be a gift for us. My mom will be in town so we will make it a big date night with dinner and everything. That doesn't happen much for us.

Hmmmmmm.....tablets. Now you've made me wonder what my DS 11 would get more use out of, a tablet or the ipod touch? Any ideas from fellow DISers? He already has a netbook that he absolutely loves so maybe a tablet would just be more of a "duplicate" for him?

It probably depends on your child, my niece just turned 13 and she has a laptop and a ipod (nano) and her mom thinks she will use a tablet more than she would an ipod touch and I tend to agree with that. It just depends on what you think your son would like and would get use out of it. I guess if he doesn't have an ipod (any kind) then that would be the thing he'd use more, but if he does have a working ipod I'd certainly go for the tablet.

Tablets are just really big right now, with everyone it seems, so I am suspecting some good sales on a variety of different types of tablets and possibly e-readers too.

Can I join you?:flower3:

I love to go shopping on Black Friday. It's a girl thing for us because I also go with my mom & sister and we let our girls with us.princess:princess:princess: We shop and eat!! :Last year they had a blast sitting in line at Walmart for 5 hours for iTouches. :rotfl2: Kids are weird.

This year it's looking like I will be buying three iPads.:scared1: I'm sure I wont find a good deal on them, but it would be nice if I could. Maybe a free case or something?:confused3 Anything would help.

Last year (on Black Friday) I bought a Macbook Pro (full price) at Best Buy and I received a free $125 Best Buy gift card. It sucks that Apple doesn't discount their products...you might have better luck shopping at Best Buy like I did. :thumbsup2

I would have used my free gift card to purchase more Christmas gifts, but the cashier said we could put it towards buying an extended warranty for the laptop, so that's what we did.

Sorry. I'm late in joining y'all. I love black friday sales! Didn't go last year because I didn't need anything (I did buy a HDD on Cyber Monday) but I'm about to move into a new house so I at least need a mattress, vacuum and hopefully a TV.

And for those who want ads: http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/
Alot of the ads are up scanned and listed. Some of them (like target) just have a few items listed and no ad scan.

Last couple of years we've not really been in the market for anything "big", but the wife and I go out just for the fun of it. We consider it the true kickoff to the holiday season.

This year we're in the market for a TV. :scared1:

I will definitely check out Best Buy. Last year at WalMart I got a $50.00 gift card for each iTouch so that was nice. I had to have three of us in line to get them though, so much for being surprised on Christmas morning.

Has anyone ever seen a good deal on DSLR cameras on BF? I have purchased point and shoot cameras for my DD on BF before and have gotten great deals, but I would really like to upgrade her to a DSLR camera if there is any way that I can possibly afford it.

I believe we have purchased about 3-4 cameras for her in the past 5-6 years. Each one a little better than the last, and I would love to be to take the next step!

We were watching the DSLR cameras last year and it seemed like a lot of the lower end brands or old model cameras were on sale, or really, really high end expensive ones had a bit of a markdown. There weren't any good, newer, middle of the line cameras for decent prices.

Amazon is having a really good sale right now on their Nikon DSLR's. The D3100 and the D5100 are both at the lowest prices that they've ever been at and if you buy one of the cameras, you get $100-$150 off certain lenses, through 10/15. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_357672222_3?t=slickdeals&tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&plgroup=1&docId=1000731021&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=1KEEETC2M6BZMHAEQMFR&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1322263262&pf_rd_i=B003ZYF3LO)

The Nikon D3100 is rated as one of the highest, entry-mid level camera. The D5100 is rated as one of the higher mid level cameras.

Last week, I ordered DH the Nikon D3100 camera with the extra 55-200 mm VR lens for about $620 shipped, with no taxes. I highly doubt I'm going to find anything cheaper for this on black friday....

That's wonderful to hear. I know nothing about cameras. I had my dad help me and read lots of review and consumer reports, so I'm glad to hear from someone that's actually used it and loves it. And I'm happy too... I was planning on spending around $1000 for a decent DSLR, the lenses, camera bag, etc so I'm really happy to come in well under budget! Harbour Freight is always the first one to come out with the others following a few weeks behind. Usually the bigger name or more sought after ads like Target, Walmart, Kohls, etc will not leak until at least the first week of Nov. However you can look at last year's ads to get a feel for what to expect, for instance Kohl's will most likely have all of their toys on sale for 50% off with a possible doorbuster of an extra 10% off. They also take their coupons on BF. So that means the toy area is FLOODED with people. :goodvibes

I already have some pretty specific things in mind, hoping I can get them all at just 2-3 stores...

Cheap Blu-Ray player
Star Wars saga- blu ray
Kinect attachment for xbox
Coats at Gymboree (they have had great coat deals the last 2-3 years!)

Hoping Disney Store will have a great sale on their new toddler Princess dolls

Hoping Barnes and Noble will have some good deals too

I would love it if I could hit all those stores within the same time. It's hard that the DS is open at midnight, but I don't think Target opens til 4 or 5.

My black Friday shopping is a tradition that goes way back. It used to be easier I think. Not as many people willing to brave the crowds and the chaos. But the economy being what it has been for the last few years, the crowds have just gotten massive! I did my BF shopping online last year. I missed the actual going out, but I had a house full of company and nothing I desperately needed that I couldn't get online. Hopefully this year I'll be back out there. As a pp said, it's about the fun of being out there. People are usually in a festive mood and friendly.:santa: Usually.:rolleyes1

I don't have many good things to say about Acer netbooks. Our didn't take a charge, wouldn't work with the cord, so we had to mail it in for repairs. We were within a week of the 1 year warranty, so we lucked out. This was last September. Around June, it started not taking a charge, and not allowing to work with a cord only. I have since replaced that netbook with a wonderful PC. We have a Toshiba Satellite, and I love it!! We got one for our son also. See if you can find a site with good deals. Think of Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving. Usually you can find good deals, but be prepared to camp out.

Another week closer to the best "holiday" ever. It is almost November and then the good ads should start popping up. I love that I can shop at Old Navy, K-mart, Meijer, and Gander Mtn on Thanksgiving. Then I can focus on the Big ones on Black Friday. Of course I am usually the only female in Gander Mtn. :lmao:

My boys specifically asked for clothes from Old Navy and my daughter wants a particular hoodie which our store doesn't have. I hope they have an on-line sale so I can get her hoodie. My husband always finds something from Gander Mtn that he needs so while he is napping before the Thanksgiving Feast I hit up Gander Mtn.

October has flown by and I bet Nov. will too.

For the record, I totally :lovestruc my netbook! I use it on a daily basis, and my son uses it more than he uses his laptop.

I just purchased my first holiday gift last night : Rocksmith for the PS3 for my guitar playing son. It is actually on backorder already at Amazon.com and is a new release, so I don't want to risk not getting it. DH agreed with me just to get it now and that it probably won't be discounted much, if at all, by the time Black Friday is here.

Gonna be a mild holiday season for us, as DS and I are going to New York next year and are still paying off that trip.

For people looking for a camera deal:

DH and I are shopping around for a DSL camera. We went into Ritz Camera today to look at different models. I asked the salesperson (who I later found out to be the manager! :thumbsup2 ) if he knew what the Black Friday sales would be and he did not. But he did have some VERY helpful advice!

Ritz has a 30-day price match guarantee that includes Black Friday sales at other stores and online stores!!! :scared1: I couldn't believe it! He told us we could buy a camera from him in a few days (30 days before BF) then bring in the Black Friday flier from another store on Black Friday and he would price match for us. He recommended we come in the evening on BF when things have quieted down. I am psyched!

DH and I are going to wait for the BF sales fliers to come out and go buy the camera we want at the BF price from him then get a price adjustment on BF. Then again, I did some looking around online and found the Sony SLT-A55 with kit for $650 instead of the usual $800. Maybe I'll print that website and see if he'll price match. Then if there is a BF deal on the camera that is even better (doubt it) I'll ask him to price match again.

I'd like to buy from him. He offered us some great customer service and I'm very impressed with their new pricing policy. ;)

I read an article on yahoo that their predicting the prices of tvs to be a steal this year! Their guessing that the 32" tvs will be as cheap as $198! I wish the fliers would come out now! I was thinking of putting the tv on layaway at walmart and then if a better deal comes out BF I could cancel the layaway. That is the only thing I need on BF!

I read an article on yahoo that their predicting the prices of tvs to be a steal this year! Their guessing that the 32" tvs will be as cheap as $198! I wish the fliers would come out now! OMG! i'd LOVE to have a new TV for DD! she's had hers since she was 2, and she's 14 now, so hers is about shot.

Is anyone here from the myrtle beach area, or been in myrtle beach on black friday? My inlaws have invited us to go camping at myrtle beach with them for Thanksgiving, but I really want to go BF shopping and she mentioned going down there. Is it incredibly insane??

Hi I'm from Pawleys Island which is about 20 minutes to MB It is where we have to shop for almost everything. The insaneness probably depends on what you are use to. People do come from around the state but nothing like I see on TV news in big cities.

I guess the biggest thing would be where I would be going. Do the outlets normally do sales? We are staying at pirate land which is more south myrtle. Is there somewhere better to go than main myrtle or is that the best? I've only ever stayed at north myrtle, so I'm not sure what to expect as far as being close by.

Remember you can buy some things on-line on Black Friday too - sometimes the sales are for Thanksgiving day! You don't necessarily have to brave the crowds.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the reminder!! I did see on the walmart website they have a 32" for $229 right now. I am making myself wait to see what the black friday ads say. I may call Walmart to see what the return policy is on televisions. I noticed on their website it names some electronics but did not see televisions listed. If I'm only going to save $20 then I'm not going to fight the rush for a television!

My wife just sprang another one on me...she now wants a new laptop/netbook as well! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I think I'll be heading out right after T-Giving dinner! :sad2:

Try bestbuy.com ON Thanksgiving Day. I bought my DH's Black Friday laptop online last year right after eating my turkey.

The outlets do huge sales. They open at 10pm on Thanksgiving Day. MB has 2 outlet malls one on Hwy 17 and the other on Hwy 501. If you go, get there very early or you will have a hard time finding a place to park. I have never been but the outlet here is CRAZY busy on Thanksgiving. People sleep in their cars and park across the busy hwy. I'm not sure how MB would be. They have a big shopping area with a Target and Best Buy. MB also has Walmart. I'll need to look up the locations to where you will be at.Most is Central MB. MB will have plenty of shopping for you. I have family with a timeshare there and we go alomost every year.

Happy BF shopping!

Half price books and the Toys R Us Big Toy Book are posted on the BF sites. My kids love when we get the Big Toy Book in the mail. They each get a different color sharpie and cirlce everything they want. By the time they are done the whole book is circled. :rotfl: I then make them go back thru and star their topy 3 choices. I can't wait to see the BF ads for Target, Kohls, and Wal-Mart.

I have shopped here the last 3 Thanksgivings. Most of my Christmas shopping is done before BF. I shop for my immediate family needs. I arrive at the outlets around 5 am. The good sales are still in process. Most everyone has left for WalMart across the street and the other stores that are opening. (I shop at the NMB one). I finish up around 10:00 and head home for a nap. I have no problem finding a parking space but people are fighting for mine as I leave. Will not be going this year because we did Disney this year. The beach 2 times and Pigeon Forge. I also have tickets to see the Christmas Rockett show in Durham, NC the Wednesday before BF.

So I saw the ToysRUs big book is up. Do you go to the stores to get them? I remember when they mailed them to you, but I dont recall getting any lately.

One of these just came in our mail today and we don't shop there that much so they are sending them out this year.

There is a ad posted for Farm and Fleet but I can't tell if it is BF ad or just their holiday toy catalog ad. I noticed they have the Leapfrog - Leapad for around $70. It is $99 every where else so I am wondering if that is their BF ad? :confused3

Does anyone happen to know? My mom has one close by that she could go and pick up some items for me but if it is the BF ad she will be at our house so it won't work. ;)
