OK I'm going to try this again...tried posting this as a poll a few minutes ago and it never showed at all...
Option #1 Rent a car first day and last day for $85
Option #2 Rent a car for the full 5 days for $145
does anybody think it is worth it or necessary to have a car for all 5 days.....

Here is my $.02. Do you have a pressing need to go somewhere outside WDW once you are there? I would say unless you have a real pressing need to go somewhere else I would say ren first and last and use the money save on yourselves at DISCon.

That is sort of where we are at this time...unless somebody has a great reason....

We are going to be there from Dec 1-9. The difference between a towncar and a compact deal I found was $40. That was easy. We got the car and we are staying at VWL then BCV. So that lets us get food at our pace and makes the move easy from VWL to BCV on Fri. Beth and I can not wait to meet you guys in Dec.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Dave H.......from where did you rent?
Thanks in advance

You forgot choice #3: Bum a ride from Towncrier. :)
I rented a car for DIScon last year. All 5 days. I didn't use it much, but it was a comfort knowing that it was there for me to use. And for the few dollars that it would save, I didn't think that it was worth the hassle of renting and returning twice.

Enterprise. I checked a few days later and the rates went back way up.:( I was just checking the web sites and American Express web site. i stumbled onto this one. Good luck.

Well the return and rerental is at the Dolphin and we are staying at the swan so i figure that the returning process won't be to bad....

Hey, z-wife! Go with the first and last and bum a ride from one of us who has a car if you find you really need to go somewhere. We would be happy to pick up water or snacks or take you to get something during the week if needed. We will most likely have to make at least one "water run" anyway. I'm sure there are plenty of other Dis Conners besides us who will have a vehicle available and who will be ready, willing and able to support the great Zurg and his lady! Heck, you could even go for that great rate on the FL Tours shuttle service and save even more! Call on us if you need us.

BTW...for anyone renting a car, I found that National had the best rates using the Disney Club code, and their 1 free day coupon (even though it says it's for 1 weekend day free, the site accepts it if you're renting for a week)
My full-size car for the week (before all the extra nonsense) is $145 using the code and coupon. I think the grand total is estimated at $189.89.
YMMV. ;)

Cookie that was where I got my prices also...except my $145 included taxes...but it was only for a 5 day rental not 7..

For me in my case since I'm flying into Sanford and the transportation to the Swan would cost me more than from MCO , I rented a compact from Dollar for 5 days and taxes and all included is $120 , and I get to keep the car for the 5 days. I don't plan on going anywhere else but it's always good to have. If I was flying into MCO then that would be a different story.

Zurgswife, make sure you check that the National rental counter at the Dolphin is open. Last year it was closed during Dis-Con and I had to go to the Car Care Center near the MK to return the rental. Not that big of a deal but it will take a little longer :)

I loved having a rental car at my disposal last year for the full time I was at DISCON. That way, if I got hungry in the middle of the night (a common occurrence) I could make a run to Burger King or Steak 'n Shake. It also came in handy for making runs to Downtown Disney for a shopping expedition with the ladies. The jury is still out on whether I'll be renting a car or not this year. There aren't too many good deals out there.

I've got an economy rented from Dollar from Dec 2 AM to Dec 9 PM for $166.85 total. It will come in handy for Krispy Kreme meet, water runs and Outlet Shopping.

What about the FL Tours option of $15 each way per person? That comes to $60.

Nancy we thought about that but for $25 we can have a car for 48 hours....So, we are at least going to get it for the 2 days so we can stock up on stuff when we get there...
I'm going with the Towncrier method of transportation-bum a ride from Towncrier, from RaySharpton, from Dayna, from anyone that will let me. ;) ;):teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

We're off site, so we have to have a car. I got a great rate from Alamo that includes a free kids character breakfast for $130/wk & $25/xtra day. I'm going to try to get them to give me something else as the freebie since we don't have kids, but if not I'll be offering that to someone who can use it.
I think if we were just staying on site & going to DIS-CON I wouldn't bother with the car, but since we're off site & will be house hunting for our future retirement home as well it's a necessity for us.

We always rent a car for the duration of our trips to WDW, usually from National. Alamo is going to be the new Official Rental Car agency of WDW, but they're located away from the airport terminal.
We usually drive everywhere, except for the MK, and as DVC members, we take advantage of the free valet parking at the Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Wilderness Lodge Resorts.
Rental car companies treat any rental from 5-7 days as a weekly rental, and charge the same price.
If anybody needs a ride during DIS-CON II, we'd be happy to help out!

I see some of you said you got the car for $145 for the week plus tax... hmmm.. I just did mine over. I saved $30 but my weekly rate is $195.... Oh well - at least I saved some money.

The to have a car or not....deliema is because we always have a car for each and every trip we have every been....It's hard to give it up...But this trip is a big unexpected extra so...I'm torn about saving $60 or having a car the entire trip...Knowing quite a few people that will have a car is making me lean toward just getting a car for 2 days....and wing it if I need one on one of the other days...

LOL Barb I think they should all start their own "DISCon Rides" Company :)
Zurgs Wife - I have to say if I could drive I'd probably get a car for those 2 days as well - I think you're all alot safer on the roads knowing I haven't passed my test yet :)
