So my dd and I did a trip together when she was 10. Ds just turned 10and wants me to plan our trip. Where to stay? So many choices.....thinking maybe pirate room? We are usually deluxe or dvc due to family of 5, so kind of excited the 2 of us have other options. Love to hear thoughts or mother/son trip hotel decisions.

My first thoughts are the pirate rooms or WL if you haven't been there before. Or if you know you will be spending pool time together maybe BC.

My little boy, at 11 months, LOVES animals, so if I was going to take him on a Mommy/Son trip to Disney at any age, we would probably stay at AKL.

Though in reality, I would let him pick.

A pirate room would definitely be fun, but they're the furthest away from the food court at CBR (it's another one of those things where boys at Disney get the shaft...the Princess rooms at POR are going to be in the preferred section, but the Pirate rooms are crazy far away)

I agree, I would let him pick! Show him pics of all resorts, even the values!! Whatever he chooses, so be it. :goodvibes It'll be a different experience for you guys.

I would pick either AS Sports, CBR (pirate room looks fun, even thou its a far walk to main building), Boardwalk, or Beach club.

Yes, let him choose. IMO, there are some excellent choices:
CBR pirate room
AKL savannah view
WL
Fort Wilderness cabin

While we haven't stayed in a pirate room (yet), we have stayed at the CBR 6 years in a row and love the resort. Yes, the pirate rooms are in the furthest village from the main pool, food court, etc. but they aren't that far. I have walked over to Trinidad South (where the pirate rooms are) and my walk bak to Old Port Royale was a little less than 7 minutes at a leisurely pace.

My son loved the CBR when h was your son's age and would have loved for there to be pirate rooms when he was 10.

I am a pro at mother/son visits to Disney. I'm a single mom with just one son, so we have taken many trips to Disney World - just the two of us. They've been some of the best times of our lives and have helped us build a very strong bond.

When he was younger, we would go online and look at the different resort options in our price range. We'd talk about what looked like fun, and then make a short list of the places we'd really like to stay and keep talking about it until we made a decision. AKL has gone to the top of our list, and we've stayed there 3 times now. Love that resort! The theming is fabulous, and the Savannah view rooms are terrific - especially if Disney is offering a good discount! The pool is also very special, and there are a lot of activities if you choose to spend some time at the resort. The first time we stayed there we were celebrating his 11th birthday, and it was a huge hit. Now he's 14, and it's still his favorite, although we don't always stay there.

Our second favorite is POFQ. It also has a great pool for kids, and we liked the small size of the resort and ease of getting around. The ferry to Downtown Disney is lots of fun, too. We stayed at CBR, though not in a Pirate room, and were not crazy about that resort. It was so big, the main pool and the food court were chaotic, and it took too long to get there from our building.

Just my 2 cents. Enjoy your mother/son time!!:goodvibes
