Planner Swap Details:
1.All pages must be based with a heavy cardstock.
2.All pages should be exactly 6 by 6.
3.On the left hand page you will be decorating the page to signify the month of the year you have chosen. Since we may have people from the UK you will need to watch out for things that don’t happen there and either design a different page for them or make the design fit a worldwide event.
4.The left hand page must have an inside gutter (on the right side of the page) of ½ and inch with nothing on it to allow for binding room.
5.The right hand page will contain the calendar. You will print your calendar from the file I email you. If you delete the month from the top of the page you will find 2 should fit on a letter size paper.
6.On the right hand side you should have a ½ inch gutter on the inside(left) side of the page to allow for binding.
7.Somewhere on your pages you should have the month.
8.Nothing should hang off the edges of the pages (we are going to be taking these in and out of our purses- not leaving them on a shelf so they need to be made durable and hanging items are easily caught and torn off when handled regularly.
9.Be very careful about the embellishments you use- make sure everything is very securely attached and also make sure nothing is so thick that it will be hard to write on the pages around it.
10.Covers should be done with fabric covering light chipboard. I will talk with those doing covers personally about their choices to make sure they are able to be bound with the bind it all. The fabric will need to be thinner but durable. They will be making the front and back cover and covering both the inside and the outside with fabric. These will actually be just a bit bigger than 6 by 6 so they can contain the pages.
11.You will make 13 sets of 2 pages for each group you sign up for.
Signing UP: When you are signing up for a month in the Disney group please let me know what character you are planning to use ASAP so we won’t have more than 2 months per character. Also if you would like me to bind your calendar please tell me when signing up and include $3 to cover the cost of binding with your postage. (I need to know early enough to order the correct amount to start off because it is budgeted for only 1 shipping charge- if you let me know too late I made need more money to cover additional shipping charges). Also let me know if you are from another country so I can identify it in the original postings and your group members can plan for it when making your pages.
Number of Groups: I will not be extending the due date. Make sure you don’t sign up for more than you are able to do. In the beginning I would like everyone to start with 1 place per group and then after the first 3 days of sign-ups being opened you can add spots in groups.
Packaging:
Pages: Sign the back of all of your pages. Put each set of pages into Gallon bag. You may place all of 1 month’s calendar pages in 1 bag and all of 1 month’s embellished pages in a second page. So you should have 2 gallon bags per group. Label the bag with the group and your name. I will return your pages in the same bag. You do not need to package up each page separately.
Check In: Once the swap closes I need you to pm me your information- full name, address, email, and a phone number if I need it. I must have an email address to send you the file needed for printing- if you can’t use a word file please let me know. At this time also make sure you have double checked your groups. First check-in will be August 15th, second September 1st, third September 16th, the final check in will be October 1st. If you miss a check-in, I will PM/email you. If I do not hear from you 48 hours after that, your spots will be angeled. If you are going to be away for a check-in, let me know. For the SEPTEMBER 16th check-in, please be specific with your progress, and list what you need to complete and an anticipated mailing date (If you have not mailed already). I want to have a good sense that you will be able to accomplish your groups on time, or if we are going to need angels.
Postage: Here are the prices for Flat Rate Priority Mail Shipping. Envelope -Standard box – $10.95, Large - $14.95. If you are in only one group and would like me to send it back to you in a tyveck envelope (non-flat rate) I can but you may have some bent pages depending on how your mailperson treats packages. If you would like to do that then you can send $10 for return and I will include change if any in your envelope. You may send to me, by any method you choose, but I would prefer to send to you using flat rate boxes/envelopes. However, if you want me to send by a different method, we can work that out. I won’t require Delivery Confirmation, UNLESS you are sending to me AFTER OCTOBER 10th. If you want your items shipped to you with DC, please include the $.70, and a filled out slip.
DO NOT include click-it/ship-it postage. I will not be able to use it since it is only good on the day it was printed, and from the location it was printed.
Due Date: This swap is due OCTOBER 15, 2011. Your package should be in the mail by October 8th if sending first class, October 11th if you are sending Priority. I intend to only wait one week for packages that have been delayed by our lovely postal system, before I swap out. If you mail, October 10th or later, you must send you must include DC so I can verify the shipment and keep tabs on its status. I know emergencies can happen, and those will be handled on a case by case basis. However, Murphy’s Law seems to go into effect quite regularly around here. It seems like the longer we wait to start our groups the greater the chances of something bad happening. I will have a hard time holding up the return for someone who has a majority of their work still to do, at a time when they should be focusing on whatever issue is causing the delay in the first place.

I have a silly question. The pages--6x6 with a 1/2 inch gutter so 6 1/2 x 6 OR 6x6 total with the design part being 5 1/2 x 6? I'm having trouble visualizing exactly what you mean in the instructions.

They are 6 by 6 including the gutter so the design would be 5 1/2 by 6. There are some pictures posted in the interest thread if you want to look.

I think the big reason for asking for characters was that people didn't want too many of 1 character but I think 2 months with the same will be okay- you can think about it or see if your idea would work with Daisy instead of Donald. I will leave it up to you.

Whoever does the cover will be doing both the front and back cover. One mine the material is the same on both. I plan to use a thin blue suede material for the everyday planners and possibly add a small charm onto the front cover. The inside of the covers I have is a matching piece of cardstock- I believe it is a Bazzill but I am not positive. I will try to get a picture of the inside of a cover asap(probably not before Mon though). Basically whomever does the cover needs to cover the chipboard in a light but sturdy fabric and then add a piece of cardstock over where everything comes together on the inside of the each cover.
There is enough Disney fabric out there that I would say getting it and covering the chipboard is enough work for that person.

Bazzill cardstock is just fine- you don't want to use the thinner (and normally cheaper) cardstock that some stores sell. Anything above about 50lb should be fine- I think Bazzill is about 70lb if I remember correctly.

I don't really know how thick it is but if it can hold up well on its own it should be fine. Maybe someone who is familiar with the difference could weigh in- the big thing is that the pages need to be quite sturdy to hold up for the year- as long as the cardstock is sturdy enough it should be okay- the paper packs normally have fairly thin cardstock and that paper doesn't hold up.

I would love to do the September pages of the Disney group, but I do have a question:
I was originally thinking colonial Mickey and Minnie, but that's very American, lol. I would love to do the classic characters in pirate garb because of talk like a pirate day, but I see that October is a pirates month. Is that going to be okay? If not, I'll choose another theme but I still want September Disney.
I WOULD LIKE MINE BOUND please and thank you :)
EDIT: I could also do Fillmore from Cars because of International Day of Peace, lol. Let me know which is preferred.

I have you down. I will pm with you about the covers. They need to be sturdy but thin enough or they won't be able to be bound, so I know that the fabric needs to overlap after a certain point on the back or the binding machine won't work. The one I have has the fabric pulled around to the inside of the cover to keep it from coming off or showing the edges.

How would you like the fabric bound to the chipboard? modge podge? If I got the gloss one it woul add a sheen to it and be a bit waterproof.
So lemme just make sure I have this... Fabric wrapped around the chipboard and a cardstock inside cover? and this is repeated on the back cover.

I am not sure- I need to check on how things go- you can play with it a bit if you have scraps- otherwwise I will be playing with it once the first week of August rolls around. I would say it needs to be something under and not over the fabric- modge podge would not survive coming here to FL even if it ends up in other places. I was thinking a layer of tacky glue but I haven't actually tried it. You idea of using a iron-on bond may work better than other things but I am not really sure- It just needs to have less than a 1/8-1/4 inch thickness on the inside side in the end.

For those of you in the everyday group--February--I was thinking a "box of chocolates" theme. Heart shaped box with paper candy inside will that work for everyone?

I like the idea- unless you background paper has a lot of design to it you might want to increase the size of your items unless you plan on putting the name of the month in the large empty space.

That's the plan :) The layout is 12x12 so there won't be nearly so much empty space on a 6x6, just enough for the month I think. But the chocolates will fill up most of the page.

I am so excited about this! I made a planner for DS(11)'s form teacher as a farwell gift, using the academic year 2011-12, and I was so happy with how it turned out! On the non-calendar page I put a birthday/notes box as I had a few problems sizing the calendar from the file I found. I'll try to post pics on the general scrapbooking thread if anyone is interested.

Keep it open for now unless you don't think there is anyone else who wants it.
I am giving you November to close things out since we haven't had any additional takers in a couple of days.

Now what is the little card on the top page??? I like that idea...
I just drew a box in Powerpoint and added "Birthdays this month" and "Notes" (or words to that effect), copied and pasted so there were 6 on a page then printed and cut out. Because the boxes were quite small I thought it might be useful to have somewhere to write birthdays etc. separately in case there was a dentist or something on the same day;)

I don't know what the weight on the cardstock is- you just need to make sure it is not easily bent and you think it will hold up well. If you know that it is more than 60lb paper then it will definately hold up just fine. Otherwise maybe pm MickeyTeacher/Lisa(from CT) if she doesn't respond- they are CM consultants and would be able to give a better opinion than I as I don't have any CM cardstock- I only have a bit of the paper and stickers. If it is as thick as Stampin' Up cardstock it would be just fine.

I thought of that but I just cant find any that matches really. Everything I;ve used is pastel colours and all the paper with the right kind of patterns seems to be really bright and just doesnt look right. I've got a lovely pastel parchment pink paper but again when I tried it, it just looked wrong. I'll def keep an eye out tho. The cream letters are the shadowed one anyway so it'll be easy enough to add some on top if I manage to find anything!

Jayne, I LOVE that Bambi page!!!! If you want "April" to pop out a little more and can't find the right patterned paper to use, you could ink the edges of the letters to give them a little something extra or maybe add a couple of tiny butterflies amongst the letters. But, even if you leave it like it is, it's awesome!! I love it!

Thanks for the well wishes on the job Im working 2 times a week basically releiving the art teacher for some days. I was able to get Animation, comic book and cartoon art as part of my lesson plan ;) I do cool stuff one week and the formal masters another. I think it will help to break up the museum feel to the course. Im gonna try and sneak in "paper arts" if you know what I mean....LOL Im gonna have the kids make they're own scrapbook page/collage 12x12 they can use whatever medium they want. I get 5th and 6th graders please pray for me. Thank god its only 2 days a week!!!
Best part is they hand in their work to the head Art Teacher. She is pretty cool (old hippy from back in the day) and I'm teaching her how to use a Cricut. ;)

DS10 here, mommy said she's going to wait to do these. She had a bad reaction to some medicine and now has blisters and swelling on her hands. She can't bend her fingers or anything. She said sorry for not having progress yet but we will get to them soon. I might even get to help.
Oh, how awful!! Tell mommie to take care of her self. Swapping can wait. I'm sending prayers and pixie dust for a speedy recovery her way!

OK, so in order to be up front I want everyone to know we are supposed to get a direct hit from hurricane Irene. If DH can get home quick enough we are going to pack up the RV and leave the area. I will be taking my personal photos, my computer, and any sentimental items with me but I am leaving my scrap supplies behind.
I don't expect anything bad to happen with the house, but in the event that it does I just want to let everyone know my intentions up front. We are only 30 minutes inland so the possibility of damage is very high.
I will keep everyone posted as much as I can in the coming days but I'm going to be focusing on getting the house and the kids prepared.
Please keep the East Coasters in your thoughts and prayers, this one is going to be a doozy!

Yes- the eye went down the street where we lived. It was dad's 1 day of duty a year at the academy- so he was gone. He was always gone when we were hit by hurricanes- one in Hawaii, Glory in CT, Andrew in Miami, he was around during the hurricane season of tons a few years ago when Charlie came through but it wasn't near mom and dad's it was close to our place (we went to mom and dad's cause it was safer.

I've done a dummy run and can get two grids on a page ok:thumbsup2 but I'm a bit concerned the paper is too thin - I've got cranberry pages for one and royal blue for the other. But if I print on white cardstock will it make it too thick when mounted on the other layer?
Views please?:confused3 TIA
rlovew
08-25-2011, 12:36 PM
2 layers should not make it too thick- if you are concerned you should be able to keep the calendar off the gutter edge of the paper anyway- just cut right around it and it is smaller than the page by about 1/2 and inch. I always printed the ones I have done on white cardstock and mounted them onto another sheet of cardstock.

My dad had to report to base too so we went up to Mass to stay with family. My brother was only a few weeks old at the time so mom wasn't risking it! We lived right across the street from Ocean Beach, and were in the middle of renovating the house my parents currently own. One wall only had plastic sheeting on it, we were certain the house would be destroyed but all was well. We only lost 3 trees.

Rebecca, I have a problem. My Cricut is not working properly. I ordered a new E2 from HSN yesterday, but it won't be here until the 6th of October (according to them), I can probably find someone to borrow a machine from, but I'm not sure I can get it until this weekend, at the earliest. This is worst case scenario, but I may be a few days late. So sorry about this. It's been on its last legs for quite some time, but I thought I had at least a few more months with it.

Hey MorgansMom you can just do what I do and banish your cricut machine to the corner for a time out sometime he will come out and work other times like my little one he just stays there for a while. Now his big sister Cricut 2 of mine after doing this swap she wants a time out with her lil brother.
Seems that both machines like to act wildly and make its own cuts across the page or just drag the blade through what it cut.
Good luck!

That is fine- if they don't make it until the begining of next wekk that will be fine as well. I have a conference on Saturday and a baby shower on Sunday so I won't be touching these until at least Tuesday- Monday is my day volunteering at the school. Tuesday may be my day with DH- which means I will start sorting on Wednesday and then mail out those without bindings- I will then begin working on the binding- I am guessing it will take about 30 minutes per book- most pages will have to be punched alone- so I will be mailing those off as I finish geting them bound- but it will probably take a week to get to everyones. My plan is to have them all out of the house before Halloween.
