Edited to add.....THIS INFO IS GEARED TO THOSE FOLKS NEEDING SCHOOL SUPPLIES SOON DUE TO THEIR SCHOOLS BEGINNING IN AUGUST OR SOONER. IF YOUR KIDS ARE STILL IN SCHOOL AND YOU "DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT BACK TO SCHOOL" THEN FEEL FREE TO MOVE ON TO ANOTHER THREAD!!

Get a sneak peak for Staples Back to School ad. The very last page of their flyer has several $1 items.

SOme pretty good items on there. I don't get paid until the end of the month so I hope some of those items will still be available by then.

Back to school!!! We just finished school last Monday.

I think the stores should just have one year long sale and call it. "Newyeareastermotherday4ofjulybacktoschoolblackfrid aychristmas" spectacular and call it a day. LOL. I could buy bathing suits, christmas gifts and school supplies at one shot

Jeez, I want to enjoy summer first.

I'm in Georgia with you and I'm happy to see it! I had to adjust to the early ending and August back to school schedule since I'm from the Northeast but after having my son in school for 12 years (this is his SENIOR YEAR finally) I've gotten used to it. ;)

I don't mind school shopping during the first week of summer break. I just wish they'd give us our lists early enough to take advantage of these sales! We don't get them until the first day of school, after Labor Day, and by then the seasonal aisles have long since switched over to Halloween. I guess at what we'll need but inevitably end up paying retail for the odder things that the kids' teachers request, and every few years even having to drive the half-hour to an office supply store for a thing or two that the local drugstore & Kmart don't carry other than during the back-to-school season. :(

Yep. My kids start back to school on August 3rd so we are excited for Back To school sales. I so love year round school as do my kids and many of the kids we know here. I hate the traditional school calendar. My oldest has had both and we will never do a traditional calendar again.

My kids had their last full day of school today. They have to go back next Thursday for only an hour in the AM to get their report cards. ( I hate that and think it is such a waste of time and $$) They are supposed to go back the Tuesday after Labour Day, but alas, we will be with Mickey instead. :cool1:

That said, I just bought my dd a new lunch can for next school year. It was only 2.99 and has a place for her thermos. I usually keep my eyes open all summer and pick stuff up here and there. All three kids have new shoes in their closet waiting for them to hit the next size so I won't have to worry about that in September. With my luck, their feet won't have grown!:headache: and I'll still have to buy new shoes. We still have quite a bit of school supplies that we didn't use this year, plus we over bought some stuff. I just store it all in a big plastic tote.

I miss going back to school. I used to love getting new school clothes and new supplies.:rolleyes1 I guess I was a bit of a nerd.

We got out June 16th and go back the day after Labor Day, Sept 6. By state law public schools cannot start before Labor Day here, which is great because Aug is the best summer weather up here and a great low-crowd time to go anywhere down south on vacation, Disney especially, because y'all start so early down there.

I'd love to hit up summer sales but the kids have to wear khakis and plain polos. It's their 'uniform'. I'm hoping to score some inexpensive polo dresses for YDD as those are her favorite. We pretty much push the uniform code to the limits with her. ;)

Of course people realize that.

You have to admit it can be a bit jarring to see back to school ads while you're still smack dab in the middle of end of the school year hoopla though.

I don't think any of the comments about not being ready to focus on back to school sales just yet were meant as a personal attack on the OP for posting the sale info. :confused3

I hope that everyone who is interested scores some great deals, and that there will be more sales later on for those who aren't quite ready for back to school shopping yet. :thumbsup2

Which pretty much supports my belief that all these "sales" are really not sales at all.

Staples advertising back to school supplies now, is really a joke because I guarantee you come August they will then have another "back to school" sale to stay competitive with all the other stores. Does anyone truly think that stuff will not go on sale in August? LOL.

It's all pretty much a psychological ploy to get you into the stores. sort of like "free dining". You put the word "sales" and "free" in front of some thing and it makes us more receptive to opening up our wallets.

Same thing with "back to school" clothing. it will go on sale for"4th of July", then it will go on sale for "back to school", then of course you'll get a "memorial day sale", followed by and "end of season sale", just in time for "thanksgiving day sale" which all coincides with "Christmas" sales.

So basically you've got 300 out of 365 days of sales. LOL.....

Why are you rolling your eyes???? We know that school systems across the country have varying start/end dates. It is just funny/odd to those of us ending the school year (not all schools here have held graduations yet), to start thinking about back to school.

I don't think that anyone thinks that this one week of one page of one ad at one store is the entire sale of back to school items.

Around here the sales always begin around July 4th. Those that need supplies compare all of the ads to see where they can get the best bang for the buck. We also know that you can't wait to get all of your supplies at only one store and get the best prices all in the same week. This one page ad is about a week earlier then it normally starts.

Each week in July all of the stores will have Back to School sales. Some will still run a few ads the first week and "maybe" the second week of August. But...in most areas where school begins in August....if you don't get your items in July you will not be able to find a good selection and you will not be able to find them on sale.

So really...if your kids don't need supplies in July or August that's fine...but this thread is for those that WILL need to shop at this time of the summer and like getting notice about where the deals are.

Yes, nothing like getting an 'extra' list handed out the first day of school for supplies needed that weren't on the one we had. My sons art teacher did that last year. I had to pay full price for nearly everything on the list because it was mid-August and all the sale stuff was gone. And when your kids get in the upper grades, art supplies get VERY expensive :scared1:

Well, you're in luck. In last Sunday's paper (June 19, not even officially summer yet), some local foo-foo boutique had an ad announcing their fabulous "End of Summer Clearance" sale on bathing suits and other warm weather wear. I suppose they have to make room for winter coats by the Fourth of July.

Yeah, yeah, I know most places have had their bathing suits on sale for a month or more now. It's the "end of summer" wording in the ad on June 19th that had me shaking my head.

I agree with the bolded above. Personally I find it strange that there are still people in school at the end of June. It's summer, people!

I also can't wait for school supplies. My DD is going to college this fall and she is anxious to buy suppies. We've already started at Bed, Bath & Beyond for comforter, etc....now on to the supplies. My other two don't care as long as they have something to show up with on the first day of school.

I agree with the bolded above. Personally I find it strange that there are still people in school at the end of June. It's summer, people!

Do you think this is a choice we are making? New York has never gotten out of school until late June. We had high school regents and final exams right up until the end of this week. High school graduations were yesterday.

Per teacher contracts in my district, we cannot begin school until September 1st and can be under contract until June 30th, so honestly, we are thrilled to be out by the 24th! We usually begin the Wednesday after labor day and end between the 21-25 of June.

So considering I have had exactly one day of summer vacation after an extremely busy end of school year, I have no interest in back to school sales yet! It would be like shopping for a winter coat right now! I know many schools are out in May and begin in August, so for those of you, consider getting a back to school ad on Memorial Day.

Off to enjoy my 10 weeks of summer vacation!:cool1:

Just out of curiosity, when kids are in school all year, do they get any other vacations than we do throughout the year or anything like that and do they still go the same number of years? I don't mean to sound dumb but I have never known any kids that have school all year round.

Just out of curiosity, when kids are in school all year, do they get any other vacations than we do throughout the year or anything like that and do they still go the same number of years? I don't mean to sound dumb but I have never known any kids that have school all year round.

The kids still attend the same number of days as if they were on a traditional sschedule (typically 180 days) it's just that breaks are scheduled differently.

Some districts do a single track schedule (everyone on the same track) but most are on a multi track schedule. Exactly how the schedule is done varies from district to district.

When my kids were on a year round schedule there were 4 different tracks in the school. Our track basically had October and April off and we attended school the rest of the year. Other tracks had different months off. All tracks had a few major holidays off, at least a day or two.

Hope that helps.

A district in my state has what they call "modified year round." They go 9 weeks on, 3 weeks off, and then 6 weeks off in June-mid July. Everyone I know who lives and teaches there really likes it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up about this sale. I was able to get 32 dry-erase boards! :woohoo:

The kicker in this is that WE did not get a Staples ad today!! I do need a few of the dry erase boards though. I guess once I get paid I will head in there to see if any are left. I am a lunchroom manager and looks like I will switch to a High school this year and they have 5 lines of choices so I thought i would get some to post the menu on.

Three words: Board of Regents

Yup, I know! lol And my new super decided since we are under contract until the 30th I get to work on Tuesday and Wednesday this week as well...so my summer will not officially begin until Thursday! Oh, and I get to start on 9/1 although the kiddos don't come back until the 7th...pure bliss! I'm not really complaining, I love my job most days after Labor Day and before June 15th!!

As for school supplies, I'm needing more out of my pocket with budget cuts so bring it on so I can spread out my spending so DH doesn't notice it so much!;)

They are really nice sets...a lot nicer than I thought they'd be for $1. They come in lots of colors.

This would be so much better, and less gaps in learning for the students.

We have 194 days that we have to be in school. 6 are PD days and the rest are instructional. Bottom line, I began school September 1st for 1 day this year, and then teachers and kids started the Tuesday after Labour Day. My High School-and graduating-daughter has her last exam on TUESDAY (June 28th). The elementary kids finish up on WEDNESDAY (June 29th), and I have a full day of meetings on THURSDAY (June 30th) Thankfully, Friday is Canada Day, and I know I won't have to go in then ;) . I wish I had your sales, btw! Hoping that something is on sale (a good one) the end of July when I am heading to Michigan for a conference.

Oh, and it may be summer, but the worst weather in my old, 3 story, UN-air-conditioned school is September. Can't imagine trying to teach in August in the building! It's hard enough to prepare the classroom with the sweat pouring down my back. :lmao:

Regarding NY schools, they also get out late because the schools close during many of the Jewish holidays. I grew up there and observed many of them. They also get a lot of snow and have the Regents to follow.

I'm in PA now, and the schools don't close at the same times. It's a population difference. We also started before Labor Day and didn't have any snow days to make up. So, our district got out June 9.

I'm not understanding the hostility either. Every single year B2S sales are right after the 4th of July. There is nothing else to stock in those seasonal hot spots.

Personally, I can't wait for the school supplies to come out. I need to get everything situated before my new baby comes. Our school district has had their supply lists available online since the last day of school. Love it!

Our Targets put out the back to school stuff last week. But, we have year round schools.

I agree with the bolded above. Personally I find it strange that there are still people in school at the end of June. It's summer, people!

Year round schools! My children finish June 30. Sadly, since DS14 is entering high school, we have to say goodbye to the year round calendar. :sad1:

Here, the school year is 180 days. The typical year round schedule is 9 weeks in, 3 weeks off. (this varies of course) Last year, my children were out 3 weeks in Oct, 3 weeks in January, 3 weeks in April, and 3 weeks in July in addition to normal holidays.

School calendars depend a large part on the region you live. It would feel odd to me to live where school starts early August. I associate summer with late June, July and August so to me its bad enough my kids are going back August 30th. We go Tuesday before Labor Day to mid June but this is the first year I can ever recall 5 snow days so the last day was June 22nd. Besides harvest season I think not having to pay for air conditioning or lack there of may contribute to July/August for our school summers. We go back the Tuesday before Labor Day, get off 1 Jewish Holiday plus Good Friday then have a week off in Feb and April and get out mid June. Personally I would just do a long weekend in Feb.

Thanks for posting. We don't get to make our own supply list and I always tell me returning parents(I teach in a multi-age classroom) what I actually need via email. Nothing worse than getting 50 boxes of kleenex when you still have 20 left from the year before or 25 boxes of ziplocs when you don't even use them. We have so much comsumable stuff left from last year that we do not need the returning kids to bring in any supplies. I wish they would give me my new student list early, but we don't get that until the week before school starts.

Thanks. By looking at the sale items, I feel less jealous that we didn't get the sale. I think for most of those items, they will be cheaper later in the season. The only thing that seemed like it might be a good deal is the little white board. And I don't really need those.

Justice has backpacks, lunch bags, binders, etc. I bought my DD a matching set of what she wanted last Tuesday and her last day of school was last Thursday! I used my 40% off coupon and some J-Bucks that I had so I saved quite a bit of money. Like the salesperson said, if I wait until August, they won't have anything. So I buy when they have what she wants and hopefully it's on sale.

Not much different than buying bathing suites in the winter or winter coats in the summer.

Thanks for posting about Staples.:thumbsup2 Nothing near me yet.
