DS9 plays cello & is going to start guitar. He's also interested in the drums. We want to get him wii rock band for his bday but not sure what is a good choice. I will probably buy the guitar or drums used to save money. Does anyone have a preference, is one more fun than the other?

I thought it might be fun to get him the drums since he'll actually be playing the guitar but maybe it would be more fun to play wii guitar?

Any recommendations for the game version to get? He likes 70s & 80s music. Any good places to buy used? I have checked CL & may go by Game Stop.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice!

RB1 and RB2 use only the 5-button method of playing, which doesn't really introduce someone to playing a real guitar with chords, etc. For that, you'll want Rock Band 3. You've got two choices then, the pro guitar that has a hundred some-odd buttons instead of strings that will simulate frets or the real guitar made by Fender that is also a game controller.

I got it for my daughter who was taking guitar classes in school and she loves it. I would highly recommend it for a kid who wants to learn to play and once you start counting in the saving from being able to reduce the number of lessons taken, it fits the budget board :rolleyes1
