Chapter One: On the Road Again!

It’s finally here! It’s time to hit the road! Of course, if you know me even a little, you know how excited I am at this point. I have been counting the days since the day we got back from our last trip.

I am up even before my alarm went off. Throwing last minute stuff in the overnight bag. Tossing it in the car. And I’m off!

Wait! I knew I would forget something. The passenger seat is empty. So I slow down and roll the window down so the hubby can catch up and dive through the window … and now WE are on the road. One quick stop off at the gas station to top off and get ice for the cooler and look out WDW, we are on our way!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/aIMGP1268small.jpg

I take the first leg this year. If you read last year’s TR, you will know what happened when Leo took the first leg and went into full blown PPM (peepee panic mode) in the DC traffic. It wasn’t pretty. This year, he just about immediately fell asleep so I had a pretty quiet run of it for the first 210 miles.

By this time, Leo had woken up and it was time for lunch. We made a quick stop at a Hardee’s where we shared lunch with Santa. I guess he is on his way to the World too. Except, when he left, he climbed into a big rig. Maybe his sleigh and reign deer are inside.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%20one%20two/santa.jpg

After lunch I popped back into the driver’s seat. I figured I could get another hour under my belt while Leo gets some more rest. (He works nights, so is used to sleeping during the early hours of the day.) Well, after about an hour I started looking for a rest area. It was another hour later (and about 100 miles) that I was getting rather tired and still found no rest area. Nearing a PPM myself, I left the highway and stopped at a gas station. Jeez, I hate gas station bathrooms.

Anyway, all better now and Leo all rested up, he took the next leg. And, guess what? Literally two miles down the road was a rest area! Sheesh!

While driving through North Carolina, the longest stretch of the trip, I noticed the air was kind of hazy and getting hazier. Evidently there was grass or brush fires in the area. We never did see them, but we sure could smell them.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/aIMGP1256small.jpg

Anyway, at about 2 p.m. we saw our first sign of the trip south … the first South of the Border billboard. For those of you who drive I-95, you know what these are. If not, they are billboards that are posted for miles and miles advertising this kind of truck stop/touristy area called South of the Border. The signs are fun. The place itself … not so much.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/aIMGP1262small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/aIMGP1264small.jpg

It was about this time we hit that awful washboard section of the highway. I think it’s made of cement and the breaks between the sections are big enough to feel and it feels like you are driving across a washboard. I am glad it doesn’t last too long. It would loosen the fillings in my teeth if it went too much longer.

Along the drive, I have noticed a few vehicles that have been with us most of the trip. One was a beige/yellow VW bug with an older couple with the license plate Granny T. Cute. Another was big pickup truck with a dresser in the back and a blue tarp flapping in the wind. Yah, I was bored.

But at 6:30 I get all excited because we see our first palm trees! Woo-hoo!!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/aIMGP1306small.jpg

Since it was still kind of early when we hit Savannah where we usually stop for the night, we decided to keep going. After about another hour or so, we decided to start looking for a Comfort Inn. We found one just into Florida and stopped for the night. Yes, we probably could have pushed on for the next four hours and made it all the way to the world, but we would rather get some rest. You know us old farts … we need our rest.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/aIMGP1291small.jpg

Anyway, we checked in about 9-10 p.m. and called it a day. The room was very nice and I really LOVE the beds in the Comfort Inns. But this was the first of many of my bathroom incidents. I guess they installed some sort of economic low flow toilets or something, but the darned thing was so loud and fast that I thought it was going to suck me in! Pardon the pun, but it scared the crap out of me. OK, so that was a disgusting comment. Sorry.

Good night! Tomorrow we will be at the World! Will I be able to sleep? Yep! The minute my head hit the pillow, I was out.

Here are some “odds and ends” photos from our first day on the road.

Your off to a great start! :thumbsup2

I love the welcome to Florida sign....makes it feel like you are so close!

I'm debating flying on the next trip.
I do enjoy the drive and all the familiar sites along I95 but a few hours and we are there is so apealing.

Hey...great report so far! We used to drive to Disney when I was a kid (we fly now b/c I don't have the patience!) and LOVED the South of the Border signs. We even stayed there overnight one time and I loved it, then when we came back a few years later it was just gross. REALLY really bad. Ah well.

Hi everyone! And welcome to my TR. Periodically I will be posting stand-alone pics entitled "Where in the World." Please see if you can place them. Some may be easy for Disney freaks like me. Others, not so much. Try to be specific, not just the area or the ride, but where in that area or ride. I hope you have fun! Here is the first one:

Chapter Two: We’re Home!
I was up first and got ready. I woke Leo on my way out to get our “free” breakfast so he could get ready while I was gone. Of course, those “free” breakfasts aren’t much to write home about, but it’s free. Anyway, we were out of the hotel and on the road by 8 a.m.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1292.jpg

The next four hours were pretty uneventful but the excitement was building with every passing mile. And even more so once we started seeing the mileage signs for the World.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1311.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1610.jpg

It was about noon when we passed under the “welcome to the World” sign. It’s a good thing Leo was driving because I nearly jumped out of the moving car. And, of course, I had to take the picture. Don’t know why I feel I have to take this photo each and every year, but I do.

One of these years I would like to go to the World and leave the big camera at home. You know, just enjoy the trip without lugging the Pentax, lenses and various accessories around all the time. But, as Leo says, “Yah, right. That’ll happen.”

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis-hotel%202011/smallIMGP1337.jpg

Anyway, we made it to Shades of Green and parked in the garage. They really need to make the parking spaces bigger than for Matchbox Cars and pregnant roller skates. It’s hard to park even an eco car in these spaces and have room to get out, let alone an SUV … and we don’t even have one of the big ones.

After greasing myself up and squeezing out of the car like a lupini bean, I went to the front desk to see if our room was ready. I knew it probably wasn’t since it was so early, but … can’t hurt to ask.

Happy news! It is ready. Although we didn’t get our fave room (2102), we did get one not too far down the hall and just around the corner (2144). Not too shabby and not too far from the lobby or garage and overlooks the golf course. Nice and quiet.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis-hotel%202011/aIMGP1314.jpg

We unloaded the car and then headed to the ticket counter. Yay! There was only one person in line. Well, we got to the counter within minutes and ordered our tickets. “Military ID and credit card please.” Oops, I left my ID in the room. Double oops, Leo’s is in the room too. Shoot. Back to the room.

Back at the counter within just five minutes or so and, you guessed it … there must have been a sudden rush to the ticket counter because there was now a long line. Shoot, shoot, shoot! And booooooooo…

Finally, after what seemed like hours (but more like 20-30 minutes), we had our tickets in hand (including a free one to Gatorland). Making our way back to the room, I start skipping down the hall, across the lobby and down the other hall to our room. Well, actually, it was more like the Wizard of Oz skip. All while the hubby hangs his head in embarrassment. But as soon as we are around the corner and out of sight of others, he joined in my skipping.

Back to the room and a quick change out of our traveling clothes, and we are on our way to Magic Kingdom! Since our feet are still fresh and we are so giddy with excitement, we decided to walk down the road to the Poly to catch the monorail to the park.

As we left Shades, I noticed this really mean, but cool, looking grasshopper in the bushes along the sidewalk. When I stopped to take its picture with my macro lens, I noticed there was more than one. More like dozens, if not a hundred or more, all over the bushes. They were so big and mean looking, it was kind of creepy. Bugs don’t usually creep me out (except spiders … eeeewwww), but these guys were about as big as my thumb. I was just waiting for one of them to jump off the bush and onto my lens since I was just a couple inches from them. That would have had an interesting result!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis-hotel%202011/aIMGP1331.jpg

Once we crossed the street and were meandering through the Poly’s grounds, the sights, sounds and smells hit home. We are really at the World!!! Then, the “please step away from the doors” and the slightly stinky aromas of the monorail put me over the top. Ever see a slightly overweight, half-a-centurion lunatic doing the running man dance on the monorail? If so … that was me!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1341.jpg

It was about 3 p.m. by the time we pulled into the Magic Kingdom station and found it to be VERY hot and crowded. It almost felt like July or August to me. It’s amazing how much a difference two weeks makes. We usually come the first week of May and the weather is warm, but not hot, and the crowds are pretty manageable. I never saw so many people in the parks before. I was really worried about the rest of our trip because I don’t handle crowds well. I get a bit on the cranky side.

But, this is the World!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1343.jpg

Of course, our normal routine is to head directly to Pirates and then skip on over to the Haunted Mansion. So, this is exactly what we did. I was pleasantly surprised to see no lines to speak of at either ride.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP2922.jpg

We were on and off Pirates in no time at all and, since the line was still at five minutes, we decided to jump back on for a second ride. The line was still at five minutes when we got off the second ride and, since Leo needed a potty break and wanted to watch the pirates show, I went back on for a third run. Have I ever told you I love the Pirates ride?

As I was running from the exit and headed back to the entrance … again … Leo tackled me and hauled me off towards the Mansion. Oh, alright, if we must.

It was another happy surprise that the Mansion line was just 20 minutes. Where is everyone? Oh yah … who cares?

Yet another pleasant surprise was finding something new. Well, it wasn’t really a surprise, but pleasant nonetheless. We found the ‘new Q.’ And, since there were so few people in line, we had time to really play around with everything. Leo and I really liked the touch walls, or whatever they are called. I especially liked the cat on the second wall. I know I must have been annoying the heck out of those around me by making that cat scream so many times.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1377.jpg

What really was a surprise were the updates they made inside the ride. I knew about the new Q (sorry, using Q is easier than trying to spell it out), but I didn’t know about what they did with the hitchhiking ghosts. Too cool! Ours didn’t just sit between us like usual, but he grabbed the tops of our heads, turned them green and then popped them like balloons!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1414.jpg

I tried so many times to get a good pic of these ghosts, but none of them really came out. But, this is the best I could come up with.

With our fave two rides out of the way … for now … we headed into Fantasyland and meandered around a bit. The crowds are definitely heavier here, but still not as bad as I thought they would be considering the crowds along Main Street when we got here.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP2498.jpg

Since there was just five minutes until the next Philharmagic show, we popped in there. It was only about half full when we got there. I still think it’s amusing to watch how some people push and shove their way to the front to be as close to the doors as they can get. Then, when they get inside, they get surprised and annoyed when they have to “move all the way to the right” and can’t sit right in the middle and make everyone step over them. I just smile and think, “Ha! That’s what you get for being so pushy and thinking your rights are above the rest of us.”

Of course, my ‘negative thoughts’ came back to bite me. As I sat down right in the middle of the theater, still being a bit smug, I found a very tall man with mouse ears on his head sitting in front of me and a very smelly guy to my right. And I do mean smelly! Oh, my goodness. I couldn’t wait for the part of the show where they spray the pie smell in your face. Since I really couldn’t see much and the smell was about to make me hurl, needless to say, I didn’t enjoy the show very much. I guess that’s what I get.

After the show, we crisscrossed the park like a couple amateurs looking for squished penny machines. Did you know there are actually websites that track and list each and every squished penny throughout the parks? Since this is one of Leo’s Disney hobbies/collections, he printed out the list to take with him. Now, this list is like six pages long (front and back) with the exact location of each machine and which designs are in each machine. It was like a scavenger hunt.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1456.jpg

While bouncing around the park, we managed to hit just about all of our fave rides with little to no waits. It’s amazing that, even with heavier crowds, the lines aren’t too bad.

Magic Kingdom was open for evening EMH today and we had planned on watching the fireworks and closing the park down. That was the plan, anyway. But our old ***** were just too pooped by 8 p.m. But we were determined to at least make it to the fireworks. After all, it is our tradition to watch Wishes our very first night and our very last night.

We opted to grab some dinner at Pecos Bill’s. Since neither of us was all that hungry, we got the kid’s meals. And they were the perfect amount of food for the occasion. Plus, the place was pretty empty at this hour since everyone was watching the parade.

By the time we were done with dinner, the parade was done and there was about 30 minutes left before Wishes. I wanted to see about getting pics of the fireworks from a different perspective, so I found a spot on the bridge in Fronteirland where I could see the castle. Well, part of the castle anyway.

While I grabbed a spot and set up the camera and tripod, Leo went to wander around a bit. When the fireworks began, I found that I could get some near the castle, but most were off farther to the left and not anywhere near the castle. Not a great location, but I got a few decent shots.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP2388.jpg

Oh and, by the way, I want to apologize up front. I have been studying low light and night photography, so this trip was my experimentation with it. Thus, I have lots and lots of low light and night photographs … some that came out pretty well while others, not so much. But I hope you don’t get too bored with them.

Anyway, back to the night. While I was shooting from the bridge, Leo had been trying to call me (about 15 missed calls in all) to tell me about a better spot. By the time I noticed the calls, Wishes was done. But I called, found out where he was and went to check out the spot.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20MK%202011/aIMGP2398.jpg

He was right. It was a great spot where I could get the fireworks, the paddle boat and dock and the reflections in the water all in one shot. You can’t see the castle from here, but I thought it would make a great shot. I will have to come back another night to try the shot.

With Wishes done and the crowds dissipating, we made our way towards the front gate. We also decided to take the monorail to the TTC and catch the Shades bus instead of walking from the Poly.

We could not possibly be burned out after just about six hours in the park? Time will tell.

As we grabbed out seats on the monorail, we plopped down … right in a puddle of, something. We were hoping it was just spilled water.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20day%201-2/smallIMGP1554.jpg

Back in our room by 10 p.m., I used the extra time to unpack and get our belongings organized. And what did my helpful hubby do? Plopped across one of the beds with the remote and flipped around the TV until he found some sport or another. But that’s OK. Sometimes his helping causes more work for me.

You know, it was really kinda nice being in a bit early and having the chance to just chill. After the unpacking and organizing, I went out on the patio and just relaxed listening to the froggies singing.

A fine ending to a fabulous day! Tomorrow: Epcot.

Various shots from throughout the day:

One son thinks it's on the Jungle Cruise ride.

One son thinks it's on the Mexico boat ride.

I think it's on Malestrom.

The rest have no idea, but they love looking at your pictures!

So glad everyone is having fun. I am having a blast with it too. And you guys are good! BUT! Only one of you is good enough to be right. :lmao:

It is ... the boat ride in Mexico! Look closely at the right side of this pic.

Chapter Three: I See Gators!!!

Today we planned to sleep in a bit and head out to Gatorland for the morning and then head to Epcot for the later afternoon and into the evening EMH. But you know what they say about best laid plans.

It was just 7 a.m. when I was woken by nature’s alarm clock … gobbling turkeys! There was a pair of male turkeys hanging around the lawn below my balcony. And they were intent on getting the attention of this little female that was wandering near the bushes close to the building.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis-hotel%202011/smallIMGP2135.jpg

I went out on the patio to watch them for a bit while Leo snored away. Well, one of us could catch some extra z’s anyway.

I figured I could relax for a bit and enjoy some quiet (gobbling not withstanding) and read a bit on my Kindle. I LOVE my Kindle. Anyway, I turned it on and … nothing! Oh crappola. I guess I forgot to turn it off completely the last time I used it and the battery was completely dead. And, of course, I didn’t pack its recharging cord. This thing usually holds a charge for weeks on end and I fully charged it before I left.

So much for curling up with a good book. I spent about an hour watching the golfers and listening to the gobbling turkeys and the race cars in the distance before deciding to get ready. The park opens at 10 a.m., so we planned to leave by 9:30.

Side item: Oh yah, I forgot that yesterday I found our “search” item for this year’s trip. Last year it was a specific baseball cap that Leo wanted. We never did find it. This year I found the special 40th anniversary edition plush Mickey but was not able to find the matching Minnie.

Ok, back to the day.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Gatorland%202011/smallIMGP1561.jpg

With the help of our friend Gypsy (that’s what I call our GPS … get it?), we made it to Gatorland in no time at all. We decided to visit Gatorland this year since we have heard so many good things about this little park. We were not disappointed. I had more fun here than we did last year at Busch Gardens.

Of course, the price made a huge difference too. Especially when my ticket was free. Can’t beat free.

Now, it is a pretty small park, but is very well kept and clean. It is a perfect half-day outing for something different. And they are building a zip line around the park too. That will be fun when it’s done. Can you imagine zip lining across ponds filled with giant gators?

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Gatorland%202011/smallIMGP1605.jpg

We spent the morning and into the afternoon wandering around the park and enjoying the sights. And the gator wrestler … who doesn’t really wrestle the gators … was fun. I didn’t think I would like it because I don’t usually like it when people use animals for shows, but I found it to be kinda interesting.

They had a path through the bogs that was fun too … even if it was stifling humid. And a small train ride around the park. Of course, you have to pay extra for the train, but we didn’t feel bad forking over the $5 per person. Since the park is so well maintained, we felt the money was used right and not just lining the owner’s pockets.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Gatorland%202011/smallIMGP1608.jpg

At about 2 p.m., we headed out. We wandered around the gift shop for a little while and I was seriously contemplating buying some of the gator jerky they had for sale. I have never tried gator meat before. But the price changed my mind in a hurry. I don’t remember the price, but I do remember thinking I was not going to pay that much for a small piece of jerky.

Leo was looking at some of the souvies they had with gator feet. I was really hoping he would not buy one. Eeww. Thank goodness he didn’t buy any.

Back in the car, we turned Gypsy on for the trip back to the World. Since it took less than 30 minutes to get here and pretty much a straight shot, we figured we would be back ‘home’ by about 3 p.m. So we decided to stop for lunch on our way. We found a little Chinese place in a strip mall just outside the park. The food was pretty good and the portions were generous.

Back on the road, Gypsy put us on the highway … just to take us back off that highway in just one exit. Strange, but we followed her directions. And she led us right back to the same highway ramp we took in the first place! In the words of my grandson … what the???

In the mean time, I was trying to put a shoulder strap on my tripod and wasn’t paying attention to the road, so I had no clue where the heck we were. I was too ticked off trying to get this darned strap fixed.

Now, Leo is a typical man and he was in the driver’s seat. So, we just kept driving every which way trying to find our way back. I kept telling him to stop for directions, but by the time he did, we were hopelessly lost. And, of course, when we did stop for directions, I was the one who had to go in and ask.

“Oh, just go up two lights and take a right. It’ll take you right back to Disney,” the lady behind the counter said. What she didn’t say is that that route would take 45 minutes!

Now, Leo was getting annoyed and ticked off at getting lost and I was freaking out over this stupid strap that I just could not get right. Needless to say, we were not pleasant company. At one point, we just had to look at each other and start laughing. If not, he would have rolled the window down and thrown Gypsy out and I would have rolled my window down and thrown that stupid strap out. Either that, or we would have thrown each other out.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis-hotel%202011/smallIMGP1337.jpg

We finally made it back to Shades at about 4:30, an hour and a half later than we had planned. So much for the afternoon nap. But we did take about an hour of down time before heading out to Epcot.

As I sat on the patio chilling out, I noticed my neon legs. I have been in the Florida sun for two full days now … without sunscreen … and nothing. Not one bit of color. I am still as pasty as I was when we left Maryland. Sheesh. I mean, I have some color everywhere else, but not my legs. I could use them to light our way in the dark.

It was about 6 p.m. when we finally made it to Epcot. And we headed straight for Soarin’. Now, we knew it would probably be a long wait and no more fast passes available at this time, but we wanted to try.

We were right. The standby was about 90 minutes and all the day’s fast passes were gone. Oh well, we will just keep trying.

Might as well hop on Living with the Land and then scoot over to Capt. EO.

Even though Capt. EO was very, very boring, it was nice to see Michael Jackson at his best again. It was filmed when he was still cute. But I won’t be doing Capt. EO again. They really need to come up with something new and unique for this theater.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Epcot%202011/smallIMGP1658.jpg

As we were leaving Capt. EO, it started to rain and we ran over to the Figment building. By the time we made it that short run, it was coming down in buckets. We spent some time wandering around the hands-on section, but the rain was not letting up. There was a short cut through the building over to the actual Figment ride, so we hopped on.

By the time we finished the Figment ride, the rain had let up some, but it was still coming down. Not wanting to waste anymore time here, we pulled out the ponchos, suited up and headed out. It was actually quite refreshing.

We tried Soarin’ again. Nope, the wait was even worse. I guess everyone came here to get out of the rain. So, we went over to Nemo and there was no line there.

By the time we were back out to the hub, the rain had stopped and the park was less crowded.

My next “potty predicament” happened here. Sorry if this is too graphic for some, but it is pretty funny. As I was being “seated,” one of the straps from my backpack brushed my backside. I thought it was one of those giant Florida bugs and I nearly jumped over the door with an “Oh, sh#t!” As I realized what had happened, I started laughing hysterically.

After waiting for a bit to make sure anyone who heard me was gone, I walked out, washed my hands and left … all the while snickering and wiping the tears away. When I explained what happened to Leo, he laughed, but didn’t seem to find it as hysterical as I did. Guess you had to be there.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Epcot%202011/smallIMGP3042.jpg

We headed over to Test Track and the line wasn’t too long, so we headed in to ride. I just love this ride. It is just fast enough to be fun but not so fast Leo can’t ride it and have fun too. He is still a bit iffy on the last part around the race track, but he still loves the ride.

After checking the score board on the line times for Soarin’, we discovered the wait time was down to 30 minutes. Of course, this was after the rains and normal operating hours and into EMH, so the crowds were down.

Woo-ho!! We headed on over and got in line. It wasn’t even 30 minutes before we were in our seats and ready to take off. Another ride we love!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Epcot%202011/smallIMGP1780.jpg

When we got off this ride, it was nearly time for the Illuminations show. Leo wanted to see it, I did not. If I see it once per trip, I am happy. Not one of my fave shows. While he headed off to go watch the show, I wandered around trying to get some good night shots.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Epcot%202011/smallIMGP1773.jpg

I first went on Living with the Land again. I have never done this ride at night and it was different at night. Then I headed out to get some good night shots of Spaceship Earth. I got some decent shots from various spots in the park, but couldn’t get any head-on from inside the park. They had the Cars logo displayed across the face of the ball, so that shot was ruined. Boooo…

At least I ended up with a couple decent night shots from elsewhere in the park and on our way out.

Anyway, once Leo and I caught up to each other again, we decided it was time to call it a night. Tomorrow is early EMH at the Studios.

Various shots from throughout the day:

Chapter Four: Rain, Rain … and Idiot Golfers

So sorry it took so long to get back to my TR. Life just gets in the way sometimes.

Okay. Day four was an EMH day at Hollywood Studios so we were up and out early and were at the Studios for rope drop.

It’s almost comical to see how the crowd splits at the corner of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards. Everyone who was older or had kids under the age of 13 headed up Hollywood towards Toy Story Mania. Everyone between the ages of 13-30 headed right onto Sunset towards Rock-n-Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20HS%202011/aIMGP1887small.jpg

Of course, even though we are in our 20s, we headed for Toy Story. Okay, okay, so we aren’t in our 20s … we are in our 30s. shut up

By the time we reached TSM, the line was already down the street, but moving fast. Leo got in line and I headed over to the fast pass lines. The line moved so fast, we were able to ride it once, hop off and get back in line again, ride a second time and then a third time with our fast passes later in the day. Three times in one day. Woo-hoo!

Anyway, the first time through, I didn’t play, I took photos. The second time through I whooped Leo’s butt 111,300-98,000.

After 45 minutes of our EMH was gone and we had only done one ride, we headed down the street to the Backlot Tour. There were few people in line and didn’t take long to get in.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20HS%202011/aIMGP1911small.jpg

Oh, I forgot to mention earlier that when we walked through the gate, we were not greeted by Big Blue, but a big, ugly stage had been erected right in front of it. I really hope this is a temporary thing. Leo thinks it was only there for the upcoming Star Wars Weekends. I hope he is right because it really screws up the photos of Big Blue. I guess I won’t be able to get the night photos I wanted this trip. Oh heck, I guess that means I will just have to come back.

By about 2 p.m., we had managed to get to all the shows and rides we wanted to. Then we headed on to Starring Rolls for a late lunch. Wow! Are those sandwiches big and yummy.

After lunch we decided to split up. I headed to my favorite store – The Art of Disney over by the Little Mermaid show and Playhouse Disney – to look around and Leo headed out to go penny hunting.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20HS%202011/aIMGP1948small.jpg

Now I usually get one “big ticket” souvenir each visit. Well, big to me…which is usually about $150-200. However, today I found a beautiful shadow box of the Cinderella Castle that lights up with Cindi and her prince in front, a silhouette of Uncle Walt and Mickey shadowed on the sidewalk and Tink in the fireworks behind. It’s really beautiful … even if it is made in China … and left me enough $$ to buy a second “not-so-big ticket” item later in my trip.

The reason the hubby and I always split up when it’s time to buy my one item is because it always causes him physical pain at checkout. When the total pops up on the register, all I hear behind me is moaning and groaning and a quiet but quite clear, “oh, crap.” I just have to point out to him that he and I always spend the same amount of money. I just have less to carry at the end of our trip.

Anyway, with my treasure in-hand, I decided to head back to Shades to kick back for a while.

Not so fast!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20HS%202011/aIMGP3255small.jpg

When I got to the door, it was pouring buckets. I mean, I don’t mind walking in the rain, but I would have been drenched to the skin within a few feet. So, I hung out in the shop until it let up a bit.

As I leap-frogged my way towards the front of the park between down pours, I ducked into stores, shops and little cubby holes along the way. When I finally made it to the gate, the rain completely stopped just long enough for me to make it to the bus stop. And, miracles of miracles, the Shades bus was actually there waiting. And, if you know anything about the Shades buses at the Studios, you know how much of a miracle that truly is.

Now, the minute my butt hit the seat in the bus, the skies opened up again. Perfect timing. As I sat waiting for the bus to leave, Leo called and said he was going to stay in the park, but was going to go to the Sound Stage thing to take a nap and wait for the rain to quit. Then he would continue to penny hunt before heading back to Shades.

The bus finally left about 20 minutes later but I soon found out that being on the bus was no guarantee of staying dry. I have never seen a bus so leaky in my life! There were spots all over where the rain came through like a faucet … one squarely on the seat behind me. I moved about three times to avoid the water falls and had to keep my bags on my lap since the floor had a giant puddle about one inch deep that moved and sloshed all over as the bus turned corners.

I think Shades needs to invest in a new bus or two.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20HS%202011/aIMGP1941small.jpg

Oh yah, I almost forgot. Leo got his annual Mickey ice cream today. Though he didn’t get his usual ice cream bar, he tried something new, an ice cream sandwich. It looked pretty yummy, but I am waiting to use my sugar allotment on a funnel cake.

Once I made it back to the hotel … somewhat dry … I went out onto my deck to sit and watch the storms roll through. What was off and on heavy rain was now a pretty intense thunder storm.

Now, if I had not mentioned it before, my deck faced one of the golf courses. I found it quite amusing to see all the golfers high tailing it in their golf carts back to the lodge. Some were in such a hurry I thought they would tip over heading around the corners on two wheels.

Then I saw what is probably the single stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life. Two golfers came rounding the corner in a hurry. I thought they were headed in the same direction as everyone else. But they stopped, got out and finished the hole!!! The wind was gusting pretty strong, the rain was coming down in buckets (nearly horizontally) and the lightening was not too far off. But there they were, finishing their game!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20HS%202011/aIMGP2116small.jpg

You can’t see it too well in the photo, but it was crazy weather to be golfing in. Dorks!

Anyway, I sat there watching the storm for a while and then took a nap. Leo made it back to the room by about 7-8 p.m. and we decided to eat dinner at the buffet at Shades. It wasn’t too bad.

We then decided to call it a night.

Wait a minute! We are at Disney World and we are finished by 8 p.m. and eating at a buffet? If that aint age standing straight up and slapping me in the face, I don't know what is. Sheesh!

Chapter Five: Pachyderms in the Potty

Today was Animal Kingdom in the morning and Magic Kingdom for evening EMH. And this was the very first trip to the World in my Disney Freak career that we did not do rope drop to park closing every day … and it was actually nice to do the parks in a more relaxed mode. Shshshshsh…don’t tell anyone I said that. Seems that’s a sure sign of getting old. Shut up, Tanisha.

Anyway, we decided to sleep in a bit today and didn’t leave for the park until about 10:30. I was braced for a packed park and long lines since we were getting there about two hours after park opening. I was also braced for the heat. It’s so far been pretty hot this trip and AK always seems to be even hotter than the other parks.

Boy, was I pleasantly surprised on both counts.

There were no real lines anywhere until later in the day and the weather was perfect. Mid 80s, a light breeze, partly sunny and no rain. Absolutely gorgeous!

We headed straight to the safari, as usual. I love hitting this ride as early as possible. Seems the animals are out and more active early. We had just about a 10-minute wait … even asking for the front seat. I took the outside seat so I could get some good pics. Of course, all the animals ended up being on the other side of the truck…as usual.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2286small.jpg

As we were sitting there while the truck was loading, I was trying to take a pic of the driver in the rearview mirror. He happened to see me aiming the camera his way and asked, “What the heck are you taking a picture of?” I told him I was trying to get his pic. With a puzzled look, he said, “The back of my head?” I laughed and told him I was trying to get him in the rearview mirror. That’s when he looked into the mirror and made this goofy face. I love Disney CMs. I have been wanting to send it to him, but have no idea how.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2243small.jpg

After the safari, we wandered over towards Dinosaur!, stopping at Bugs along the way. I was worried the lines may have picked up by now. Certainly by now. It was getting into the afternoon. Nope! Not yet, anyway.

We pretty much walked onto both Bugs and Dinosaur! I love Dino. It’s one of the rides that is fast-paced and exciting, but one that Leo can do. I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I have done a roller coaster. I hate riding alone and I feel bad leaving Leo sitting on a bench while I ride. So, I just skip them, for the most part. Every once in a while, I just can’t resist Everest or the Mummy (at Universal). But, it has been years.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2332small.jpg

When we bounced our way off Dino (and got our hearing back), we grabbed lunch at Restarauntoris (sp?). After a quick lunch (still no crowds), we found our way back to Africa. Found them!!! Someone must have flipped a switch because the place was crazy crowded. Here is a pic of the crowd level today and the same area from last year’s visit, which was early May, instead of late May. What a difference a couple weeks can make.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2137small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP5566small.jpg

You would think people would start at AK and then move to another park later in the day since AK closes so early. Not today! I have never seen it so packed, and hope to never see it again. The crowds, not the park.

Because it was so crowded, we grabbed some fast passes to the Safari and headed out to Conservation Station. I love it out there. No matter what the crowd level is in the rest of the park, it’s usually quiet out here.

Oh yah, on the train out to CS, I was sitting next to this young man of about mid 20s. He struck up a conversation in heavily accented English. I found out he was from Norway and was visiting some friends who are CMs over at the Norway Pavilion at Epcot. He was quite the talkative little fellow, but very pleasant and sweet. By the time we reached CS, I had given him some tips on visiting the World and I knew quite a bit about him…and all about the Norwegian national holiday that was coming up in a couple days. Leo always thinks it’s amusing how perfect strangers always seem to target me to strike up conversations. It seems no matter where we are, people just stop me to ask for directions, to take their pics with their cameras, to ask various questions or to just chat in lines or sitting on park benches. And I am not the one who usually starts the interactions.

Once we arrived to CS, I had to head to the little girl’s room. Here comes my next potty predicament. I don’t know if you have ever been to these rest rooms, but they have animal noises being played over the loud speakers. Birds chirping and cawing. Big cats roaring. Bug noises. All at a pleasant listening level. But, someone must have accidentally hit the volume button because, just as my butt hit the seat, this VERY loud elephant trumpet sounded. Good thing I was where I was, because it scared the piss out of me. I nearly flew off the toilet and smacked into the stall door.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2593small.jpg

And the giggling began. You ever try to hold a good guffaw inside? By the time I was back outside, I was wiping tears away and probably a very nice shade of red on my cheeks. Pretty bad when you embarrass yourself…and no one sees it. Anyway, Leo kept asking what happened, but I couldn’t speak for fear of totally cracking up. Once I finally got myself under control, I explained the whole story to him. He seemed amused, but not hysterical, which was my reaction. BUT, he was kind enough to occasionally trumpet at me throughout the remainer of our visit. Any time he saw an elephant. Funny man!

Anyway, somewhere along the way back to the safari, we passed one of the many benches scattered throughout the park. But this one had a little something extra … a poopy diaper splayed open and just sitting there. Yes, someone had actually left a poopy diaper sitting on the bench, not more than 20-30 feet from a garbage can. What kind of a person does this? Nasty! I felt bad for the CM who would have to pick the darned thing up.

Trying to wipe this sight from our minds, we made out way back to the Safari with our fast passes and hopped on within minutes. Once again, I was on the wrong side of the truck. Leo was just feet away from one of the giraffes.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2585small.jpg

However, unknown to me, Leo was right in the midst of a PPM (for those who did not read my first TR, this is his periodic Peepee Panic Mode) and was not paying much attention to his surroundings. His mind was on how he could ask the driver to stop so he could jump out and use the nearest bush. To top it off, you know how bumpy and jerky this ride can be. Poor guy. He was freaking out in silence.

I never knew there was a problem until we hit the dock and he took off in a near run. Not a word. Not a look. Not a tap on the arm. Nothing. Just off at a dash. But I knew what that meant and where he was headed.

Taking my time, I headed to the nearest bathrooms which were in downtown Africa. I stood near the bathrooms looking for him for quite some time. I tried calling and texting him, but I guess he couldn’t hear the phone. The crowd was ridiculous.

After about 20 minutes or so (but seemed like hours), I spotted him. He had been standing across from the bathrooms and had been looking for me all this time. We spent the last 20 minutes standing just 20 feet from each other. Sheesh! Too many freakin’ people.

By this time we had both had enough of the crowds and decided to head back to Shades for a while before heading to MK for the evening EMH.

By the way, this is day five in sunny Florida … and my legs are still as pasty as day one.

After a quick rest in our room, we headed to MK for the fireworks and hit some of our fave rides again. I wanted to grab the cool spot Leo had found on our first night to shoot the fireworks from.

We had arrived to the park at about 7:30 p.m., so we had about an hour before I wanted to grab my “shoot spot.” In the mean time, we jumped on – and you are gonna be surprise by this – Pirates and on over to the Haunted Mansion.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2397small.jpg

By this time, the parade had begun so Leo wanted to head over and watch it for a while and then do some penny hunting. I went to grab my spot.

No one was actually standing in the spot I wanted, but with the parade in full swing, there was heavy foot traffic so I couldn’t set up my tripod just yet. I took my spot and tried to stay flat to the fence and as far out of the way as I could.

When the parade ended and the crowd thinned out, most headed to Main Street. I was now able to set up my tripod and get things set. I have found that, once I do set my tripod up, within minutes I have several others taking up positions near me. What is it about a tripod that makes people think I know what I am doing? Some one of these days I am going to pick a totally inane spot and set my camera and tripod up and pretend to be shooting something and see how many others start shooting too. Kind of like looking up into the sky and pointing to see how many people will stop and look.

Anyway, I was set up on the boardwalk type area along the waterfront in Frontierland facing the paddleboat. With the boat, dock and all its lights reflecting in the water, I waited to see how the fireworks were going to look. Hope the hubby was right.

He was! Great spot hubby!

As the fireworks went off, I clicked away, hoping at least a few of them would come out as I pictured them. There ended up being a few I liked.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2977small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2966small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2960small.jpg

When the fireworks ended, I packed up and caught up with Leo. By this time it was getting close to park closing and the start of the EMH and the crowds were thinning out. Yay!

At this point I wanted to try stealing … I mean shooting … a photo I saw on the DISboards. It was of a ghostly figure hitchhiking I front of the HM. Of course, Leo was my hitchhiker. And since the crowds were thinning considerably, this was probably the best time to try it since it would take some time to set up, experiment and shoot several times to get it right.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2490small.jpg

I set everything up, instructed Leo what he needed to do and gave it a shot. After about 15-20 minutes of shooting, I had gotten a few good ones, but wanted to try for a few more. As I went to change my meter and flash settings, I noticed a small line forming behind me. People were actually lining up for me to take their photos! They thought I was a Disney photographer. Too funny. Although I did feel kind of bad that they had been waiting there patiently for nothing.

After I apologized and told them I was not a Disney photographer, I resumed shooting. Again, within minutes, people were lining up again. Time to call it quits and move along. Of course, after all this shooting, when I got home and looked at the shots, I noticed that I should have moved Leo over a bit so he was not in front of the brick. Oh well, I can always try again next trip.

We ended up going over to Tomorrowland, cutting through Fantasyland. I took a few more night shots along the way and we hopped onto a few rides.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP3024small.jpg

By the time we made it to Tomorrowland and rode some rides there (I LOVE riding the People Mover at night), it was close to midnight and we were getting hungry for a late night snack. We hopped into the counter service in Tomorrowland, the one with Sunny Eclipse singing, for a bite. We split a burger and some chili fries. I have never had the chili at Disney before. Man, it was really good!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%20-%20Day%205%202011/aIMGP2506small.jpg

However, it’s not a good idea to eat chili after midnight. I had the weirdest dreams that night. I don’t remember what they were. I just remember waking up and thinking, what in the world?

Well, after a long day, it was time to say goodnight and head on home. It always amazes me how hard it is to make myself leave the Magic Kingdom, no matter how tired I am or how late it is.

Your photos are amazing! I have never had much interest in photography, but your pictures make me want to try!!

We have recently discovered CS in AK and love it. I literally have to drag my husband away from the mural in the entry. He loves looking for all the hidden mickey's. One time there was a very enthusiastic CM in there and he was pointing out the hidden mickey's so fast we couldn't keep up. We also love the rainforest listening room!!!

Your elephant/bathroom story is hilarious!

I am glad you are enjoying my photos. I just love taking them and trying to figure out new and unique angles that will make them more interesting.

I also love that mural and never seem to have enough time to really look at it. I think I will ask a CM the next time I go. I am sure I am missing a LOT of the hidden mickeys.

Picture me making an elephant noise here. :lmao:

We made out fine. Just a few cans fell over in the pantry and a few items fell off my dresser. And my nerves were a bit shot for a while.

And I have no idea why my photos disappeared. Weird. I am going to see if I can fix it. They were there earlier. Maybe the earthquake knocked them out. :lmao:

Enjoying your TR! I see a pattern in your siggy- is May your favorite travel time for WDW? We love to go to DL in May because the weather is great and the crowds are low. I would've loved to make our first trip to WDW in May but FD tempted me to give Feb a try.:thumbsup2

Also enjoying your pictures. This last year we just sold our SLR. We realized all the work needed to organize and take care of all the pictures we were taking was becoming a burden. Also, we felt like we needed to bring it with us all the time and with five kids our hands are full. The point and shoot captures enough memories for now and now we can enjoy the moment more. Guess I'm just not a photographer at heart. I do enjoy seeing the work of others though!!

Hi Pimama and welcome. Yes, I love visiting the World in May. have been at other times, but early May is my fave. I did take a two-day quick visit about six years ago in Feb. and it was a good time too. It was a bit chilly in the morning and evening, but beautiful during the day. All we really needed was a hoody for the chilly hours and in shirt sleeves the rest of the day. Of course, the water parks and rides were out, but I don't do those anyway. And the crowds were really light too. You will have a great time.

As for your camera...I don't blame you. It would be too much to handle with kids and, if it becomes a burden, then it isnt fun anymore. Plus, it really is the person behind the camera, not really the camera. I have seen some pretty awesome photos from point-and-shoots. Just have fun!

Hope to see you here moving forward.

Chapter Six: Kids! Why must they be here? Oh yah, it’s Disney.

Today we are suppose to have the morning off to just kick back and relax in the hotel then tour the All-Star resorts in the afternoon. But, you know what they say about the best laid plans.

I woke earlier than Leo … big surprise … and went out on the deck to relax, read my Kindle and soak up all the quiet and ambiance. Oh yah, my Kindle is dead. OK, so I am just relaxing, soaking up the ambiance and breathing in all that is Disney. You know, basically loving life!

Shortly after I came out on the deck, a few kids from downstairs came out and were tossing a football around in the yard. They played for about 15 minutes or so before I heard their Dad call them in to head out to the parks.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2565small.jpg

Not more than mere seconds after I heard their slider doors close, the resort’s sprinkler system kicked on. Now, these aren’t your small sprinklers you normally see in the front areas of the resorts, these are the really big ones used on golf courses.

Am I a bad person for thinking how funny it would have been if they had kicked on while the kids were out there playing?

Once Leo was up, showered and had eaten breakfast, he sat and flipped through the TV channels for about 10 minutes. We really did try to just kick back and relax, but by about 9:30, we were bored out of our minds. Who sits around the hotel at Disney for crying out loud? We packed up the backpack and headed out to Animal Kingdom where we decided to skip most of the rides and just wander the park taking in the hidden paths and Disney magic we normally miss in our commando touring.

We hopped on the bus and were on our way in just minutes. Now, somewhere along the way, Leo pointed out a Hidden Mickey in the clouds. Uh-oh…

The crowds were pretty light today and the weather, once again, was gorgeous. Mid 80’s and partly cloudy, no chance of rain.

We jumped in to see Bugs on our way through and, on the way out of the theater, we turned left instead of going right with the masses. This put us on the path going around the back of the Tree of Life. If you have never done this, you should take about an hour out of your day and wander this trail. You can see parts of the tree here that you can’t see from anywhere else. It really is quite spectacular.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2234small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2792small.jpg

We spent quite some time on this path and then headed in to Africa to hit up some of the trails there and stop into some of the shops. I just love the one on the corner near the safari.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2138small.jpg

Anyway, we actually stopped to watch the street performers for the first time ever. I guess they rubbed off on Leo because, when we stopped over at that corner store, he grabbed one of those drums and joined a couple of the CMs in a drum performance.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2206small.jpg

Silly man. But he did get applause from those who had stopped to listen. Now this is the man who is so shy normally that it actually pains him to say hi to a stranger. But put an instrument in his hands and he is a totally new man. I just love it when the performer in him peaks out. Don’t tell him I said so, but it’s really kinda cute.

Before leaving for the resorts, we ducked in to see the Lion King. I just can’t miss this show and, as usual, it was spectacular.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2727small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2670small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2651small.jpg

Instead of catching the Shades bus, we just grabbed one of the Disney buses to the All-Star resorts. I really can’t remember the order in which we saw them, but we hit the All-Star Music, Sports and Movies resorts. Since they are all in the same area, we hotel hopped all afternoon jumping off the bus, touring around the resort, hopping back on the bus and on to the next. We didn’t hit Pop Century, though. We would be seeing this one when our daughter and her family arrived in a couple days.

I can tell you one thing … these hotels are HUGE. Or, as my mom would say, ‘hummmmmungus!’ Now, even though they are pretty cool and very affordable, I would never trade Shades for them. Way too big. Way too busy. Way too noisy. Not to mention the excessive walking to get anywhere. I mean, if you got a room at the far end of one of these places, it would be a ridiculous amount of walking just getting to and from the lobby. I guess I am spoiled by Shades.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2823small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2877small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2842small.jpg

If you have never seen one of the All-Stars, it is kinda fun to stop in and check it out. The décor is quite amazing. And I love how the families staying here, as well as Mousekeeping, decorate the windows of the guest rooms.

By the time we finished the third All-Star, I was more pooped than after a day in the parks.

Pooped, exhausted and totally beat, we head back to … Magic Kingdom! You thought I was going to say Shades? Are you kidding? There was still a few hours of park time left in the day. Where else would we go?

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2880small.jpg

As we pulled into the monorail station at the Kingdom, we noticed something you can only see at Disney. We saw a CM literally polishing a garbage can … and whistling a happy tune all the while. I kind of hung back a bit to discreetly watch and take a pic of him at work. And the pride he took in his work was impressive. He wiped down the top and sides, turned it on its side and thoroughly wiped down the bottom and the feet, then turned it back up and wiped all the sides down again. Then moved on to the next.

Only at Disney.

Anyway, when we hit the park, we made a bee-line to Adventureland and … surprise, surprise … paid another visit to old Jack.

Once we finished up with Pirates, Leo wanted his pic taken over by the Pirate Stage. I swear I have a photo of him in front of everything in every park. He got into position, I got the camera ready and, “one, two, three,” CLICK. Just as I clicked, this kid came running into the frame. We laughed a bit and tried again. “One, two, three,” CLICK. There she is again! OK, it is Disney and kids can be oblivious to their surroundings. “One, two, three,” CLICK. Crap! She came running into the frame … again.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Day%206/aIMGP2926small.jpg

By the fourth time, I was getting just a tad annoyed because (1) after the third time, we actually asked her to wait, (2) she was about 10 years old so she was old enough to know what we were doing, and (3) her mother was sitting right there watching the whole thing … and not saying a freakin’ word. I almost lost my Disney bearing and pulled out some not-so-Disney language on both her and her mother.

Luckily, Leo saw what was brewing and took control of the situation … and tied both mother and daughter to the mast. OK, so not really, but we can fantasize, can’t we?

Anyway, temper back under control, we scooted on over to Frontierland and caught the train for a night ride around the park. I just love the train ride at night. Actually, I love MK at night.

Oh, have I mentioned how much I hate those stupid mister fans? I hate those stupid mister fans!

I can’t count how many times I have been squirted in the face … or my camera … by these darned things. Hey parents! Can you please take them away from your kids when you are in line or sitting for a parade or show? Not everyone enjoys being squirted. Especially after your kid has slobbered all over the thing and it’s more spit than water. It isn’t cute, funny, amusing or even tolerable in some situations.

OK, I feel better now. Can you tell the exhausted crankies are setting in?

Enough whining.

We wandered around the park for a little while longer and hopped on a few rides before heading back to Shades. We wanted to be in a bit early tonight because tomorrow we want to be up and out early for a day at Universal.

Various shots from throughout the day:

I loved this update! If it were up to me, I'd take an entire day and do nothing but tour the different resorts. John, on the other hand, doesn't care a thing in the world about doing that. So, I live vicariously though your resort touring pics.

You are not the only one who hates the mister fans. Actually, I don't mind them when they aren't spraying on me. It iritates me to no end when I'm standing in line and a kid (or even adult) sprays me with their darn fan. That's why we always carry the little bitty ones (about the size of an old cassette tape). They are small enough that they don't spray everybody and their grandmother standing in line.

How does one take the Haunted Mansion ghost photo? We will be in the World the week before Halloween and it would be an awesome photo!

You will need an SLR camera, an off camera flash and a tripod. It really isn't all that difficult. Just takes time to get the adjustments right.

1. Set up your tripod and camera in your chosen location.
2. Set your camera settings to "bulb."
3. Set your flash unit to a fairly low setting, but don't mount it on the camera. Hold it in your hand.
4. Make sure your "model" knows where they should stand before you get started.
5. Click your shutter and keep it open.
6. Have your model strike a pose.
7. Flash your model and have them run out of the picture.
8. Then close down your shutter.

You may have to do this several times while you adjust your flash settings and the length of time you leave your shutter open. There may be an easier way to do this, but this is how I did it. Good luck!

Here are some pics of the shadowbox. If you look close you can see the shadow of the partner statue in the lower left corner on the sidewalk. Also, Cinderalla and her prince are standing in front of the castle and Tink is in the fireworks in the top left corner. The fireworks and castle change colors.

Welcome! Does your hubby have a 'nap spot' picked out in each park? Leo has one or two spots in each park where he can go for a nice nap each day: the American Presidents, the Carousel of Progress and the paddleboat at MK; the Nemo stage show at AK; the Drew Carry sound show at HS; and the Universe of Energy at Epcot. :rolleyes1

Chapter Seven: What the heck did we do all day?

I made a mistake in the last chapter. Today is not our Universal day. Today we are splitting the day between Epcot in the morning and afternoon and Hollywood Studios in the evening for Fantasmic. I miss them not showing this every night, but I understand the need for money saving cuts.

This was, once again, a beautiful day with sunny skies, no humidity and temps in the mid to upper 80s. I am really loving this weather.

Anyway, up and out early, we hit Epcot at opening … just missing the opening ceremonies by mere minutes. We have yet to see an opening ceremony this trip and I am missing that. We will have to do better, at least at Magic Kingdom, before we leave.

Finally getting through the bag check, we headed in. Another pet peeve of mine: those people who come in with back packs, camera bags, strollers packed with stuff and large purses … and they don’t have any of them open and ready for inspection by the time they get to the tables. Come on! All the time you are standing there waiting and you can’t at least unzip the damned things before getting to the front? That ranks right up there with people at McDonalds who can’t decide what they want by the time they get to the counter and those who wait to dig their change out until they get all the way up to the toll booth.

I digress. We headed in and there was no line at all, and no one walking up to Spaceship Earth, so we ducked in for a ride. I love this ride. But this year we didn’t see our mugs on the jumbo tron. Bummer. Maybe we broke the cameras with our mugs.

After SSE, we went over to Soarin’ to ride and pick up fast passes for later. Then on over to Test Track for a quick run.

Once we got those done, we headed over to World Showcase via the Canadian side. We usually head towards Mexico, so we wanted to do the opposite this year.

We though it was pretty quiet and there was almost no one here. Come to find out, WS had not even opened yet. What? It was nearly 10 a.m.!

After standing around for a while, we decided to head on down to the little shop by the boat docks at the back gate to look around. I am still looking for that ever elusive 40th anniversary Minnie. I have looked in every shop in every park for her. No luck. She is just no where to be found … the little turd.

Nope, she wasn’t there either.

By the time we got back up to the bridge into France, it was almost rope drop. But there still wasn’t anyone around.

When the rope finally dropped, there was about a dozen people there and we leisurely headed across the bridge and into France.

As usual, we bypassed France and on into the rest of WS. I don’t mean anything nasty by ignoring France. We are just not interested in wine or perfume and that’s about all there is in France.

Making a few stops along the way, we made it to the U.S. Pavilion just as the funnel cake shop was opening. Talk about perfect timing!

I just gave the hubby that knowing look, he nodded and headed over to the nearest bench. No words needed to be spoken. An open funnel cake stand, and the fact I had not yet had my annual funnel cake, meant only one thing. I want my funnel cake!!!

Warm and covered in powdered delight (the funnel cake, not me), I made my way to the bench. With every luscious bite, I heard myself making these semi pornographic sounds. Sorry people, I just can’t help it.

Of course, I could only eat about half of it and Leo always has to finish it. At least this time I didn’t wear it. One year a gust of wind caught my plate and dumped all the sugar all over me. Of course, the grandson thought that was possibly the funniest thing he had ever seen.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202001%20-%20Chap%207/aIMGP3136small1.jpg

Anyway, funnel cake gone and fairly free of the tell-tale sugar down the front of me, we went in to watch The American Adventure. Since it was now about mid day, Leo needed a nap. I tried to get some low light shots of the show while the hubby softly snored next to me. Of course, sometime during the show, I sneezed and scared the crap out of him, but he just went right back to sleep.

The rest of the day must have been pretty uneventful because my notes are pretty sparse from here on out. I do remember stopping in Italy to look for my friend Joanne’s birthday present, but was unsuccessful. We also made our way through Japan, China, Morocco and Germany.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202001%20-%20Chap%207/aIMGP3174small1.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202001%20-%20Chap%207/aIMGP3161small1.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202001%20-%20Chap%207/aIMGP3182small1.jpg

We also stopped in Norway for the boat ride. I was curious about what they had done with the ride since last year it was being refurbished. We waited in line for about 30 minutes but, just as we got to the front of the line, the ride shut down. We waited for a bit, but with the hubby’s PPM issues, we chose not to take the chance. Can you imagine Leo being stuck on a boat in the middle of this ride and his PPM kicks in? No need to see him jump out of the boat and back stroke his way to the nearest exit.

So, we cut out of line and headed out. As we were leaving, I noticed a small group forming with Norwegian flags and my new Norwegian friend from Animal Kingdom. I guess they were getting ready for that celebration he was telling me about.

Anyway, I waved at him and moved on towards Mexico where we did the usual boat ride and shopping. I have always wanted to buy one of those carved and painted animals they sell at the entrance. But boy are they expensive! Yes, they are worth it, but I just can’t afford it.

Other than probably hitting a few more rides on our way out, that was pretty much it for Epcot today. I don’t quite remember. And no, no potty predicaments today. Oh yah, we did see this guy on a fishing boat in the Epcot lake catching fish. We are not quite sure what he was doing, but we figured he was doing some kind of tracking or checking the fish and marveled at the fact that someone was actually being paid to fish in the Epcot lake.

By this time it was still a while before the 9 p.m. Fantasmic show so we sat for a few minutes trying to decide: back to the room to relax, or catch the boat straight to HS? We opted for the latter and headed back around to WS via Canada to catch the boat. Before we knew it, we were on the slow boat to HS.

I am also not sure what the heck we did at HS until it was show time, but I am sure it was fun. I think we ended up doing the stunt shows, but I will have to look through my photos to see. I’ll be right back.

Nope, just the stunt shows and Fantasmic.

About an hour before Fantasmic, we headed over to the theater. We like to get there early enough to grab dinner and a good seat. The seats we ended up with were perfect. Right in the middle, about half way up and on the aisle. While Leo held our seats, I fought my way against the flow of people to the snack shack and picked up a couple dogs, fries and soda. Oh yah, and a box of popcorn. Gotta have my pah-korn, as the grands say.

After eating, we still had a little while to wait and I had to suffer through the inevitable wave. I say “I” suffered through it because Leo loves the wave and always enthusiastically participates. I just sit, roll my eyes and wait for it to die out. To each their own.

As I was waiting for the silliness to end (like I have never acted silly), I was admiring the great view I had to grab some really great shots of the show. Then it happened. The tallest, widest and sweatiest man in the park … possibly all the parks … parked his mega booty right in front of me. Really? Well, at least he missed the wave action.

Leo looked at me and just started to snicker. Then I began to snicker. Then he laughed. Then I laughed. It was quite the giggle fest. We were not laughing at the gentleman … I definitely have no room to laugh at anyone. We were laughing at the fact that, even with half the 5000+ seat stadium empty, he picked right smack in front of me.

Leo and I switched seats so I was on the aisle and could set up my tripod near the end with no heads in the way.

The show was fantastic, as usual.

On our way out, we decided to take the Poly bus back instead of waiting for the Shades bus. Walking to the bus stop, we passed the stop for the value resorts and good googa mooga! Another reason I won’t be staying in one. That line was staggering.

The walk through the Poly grounds and on up the hill to Shades at night is always so peaceful and relaxing to me. It’s hard to explain the feelings, but I will try.

It’s the moist, cool air, the glistening walkways wet from the recent sprinklers and the quiet tapping sounds of the bamboo as the breeze moves them against each other. It’s the unique tropical smell that seems so Disney, the soft sounds of the night bugs and frogs and the glow of the lights along the walkway. It’s the feeling of total and utter exhaustion blended with the total and utter happiness and that faint tickle at the back of your heart from another day at the World. Makes you smile just thinking about it.

Off to bed and up tomorrow for Universal. Yes, really, this time.

I've got just a little bit more time to breathe than I did prior to the wedding. Hunter has football practice four days a week and ballgames at least once a week. Thank goodness the school treats their football players well and washes their uniforms for them every day.

Chapter Eight: Toto…we’re not in Disney anymore!

Today was our Universal day. Each year we pick one park outside Disney and, most years, it’s Universal. Last year we tried Busch Gardens but was so disappointed, we went back to Universal this year. Maybe next year we will try Sea World. Any tips?

Anyway, we are up and out early so we can make the park’s 9 a.m. opening. We decided to pay the extra for priority parking. The walk to the parks is long enough as it is from priority. I can’t imagine parking even farther away. I am glad they at least have those moving sidewalks.

Making our way across the parking lots and breezeways, over the bridges, along the moving walkways, down the escalators, around the corners, through the boardwalk’s shops, restaurants, clubs and bars, among the kiosks, around the corner and across another bridge, we finally made it to the Universal gates. Of course, along the way, the crowds split off in two directions: the main crowd to Islands of Adventure and the lesser crowds to Universal. I was very happy to see so few people headed in our direction.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%208/aIMGP3427small-1.jpg

We always hit Universal first. It’s still our favorite of the two parks.

As we made our way through the gates, we headed off to the right towards ET. Most of the rest of the people went to the left towards the Mummy and the new roller coaster. Which, by the way, didn’t impress me in the least. Seems like a roller coaster for the sake of a roller coaster. Nothing special.

As is our custom, we hit ET first. I know, I know. It’s a kiddy ride, but we love it. But as we rounded the bend, that section had not yet opened. Ooooookay…

Off to MIB, another favorite of ours. Yep, it was open. So open, in fact that we were the only ones in line when they opened the doors and let us into the first room. Wait! Now there were about six of us as four teens ran up the walk and ducked in. Wait! Now there were about eight of us as a couple more came screaming up the walk. That should have been our first clue. Wait! Here come a few more. Now we are up to 10. Quick! Close the damned doors! Nope. Here come a couple more. By now we are up to about a dozen.

But this dozen sounded more like 100 with all the screaming and yelling and hooting and hollering. They were so loud; in fact, we could not hear a word the announcer was saying. By the time we hit the ‘elevator,’ my ears were bleeding and I was envying Leo’s hearing issues. I guess none of them noticed we were in a 10-by-10 metal box and there was really no need to YELL AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS! Maybe if they weren’t all trying to talk over each other all at once … sheesh. Clue one we are not at Disney anymore.

When the elevator doors opened and we piled out, we were nearly trampled as the boisterous brood ran like a bat out of hell down the hall. Leo and I just hung back a while to let them be on their merry way. They disappeared around a corner.

Once they were out of site, but never out of earshot, we started to move along the Q. I just wanted these kids far enough ahead of us so I couldn’t hear them over the monsters on the ride.

By the time we made it to the cars, the kids were long gone … thank you very much! We ended up getting a car all to ourselves and headed out to kill some alien bugs.

Love this ride.

Our final score was 132,000 to 78,000. Guess who won? I know this is not a very impressive score to any young ‘uns out there, but for us old farts, I think it’s pretty good.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%208/aIMGP3500small-1.jpg

After MIB … and getting our ears to stop ringing … we headed back to ET and were able to get on pretty quickly. There were about 30-40 people in line ahead of us, but that’s nothing. Once we headed through the doors and to the turn styles where you give your name, we darted for the shortest line. Never a good idea. It stopped for some reason. We ducked over to the next shorter line and, you guessed it, this one stopped moving and our original line started moving. Back over to the original and, you guessed it, it stopped moving again.

This always seems to happen to me anywhere there is a choice of lines. Be it at the grocery store, the bank, a drive up teller, a toll booth, the theater … anything … I will always choose the line that will stop moving. So, if you see me, don’t get in line behind me!

Anyway, we finally make it through and were on our way to ET’s home planet. Always a cute ride.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%208/aIMGP3442small.jpg

We then headed over to Jaws and hop on board with no waiting with about 10 others. This is one of those rides that can be very boring if you have the wrong “actor.” We got the wrong actor. Figures. But what saved the day was the lady in front of us. She spent the entire ride ducking and diving, screaming and squealing and hiding behind her husband. I love riding these types of rides with newbies.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%208/aIMGP3457small.jpg

Off to our next favorite ride … Earthquake. Of course, it is now called Disaster! But, alas, it was not yet open either. As a matter of fact, nothing else in the park was open until 10 a.m.

Since it was only about 10 more minutes, we stopped at a corner coffee shop and split a pastry while we waited.

Ten minutes later and we are on our way to the subway disaster. I really like the new intro with Christopher Walken. And I still feel bad every time granny gets blown up.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%208/aIMGP3509small.jpg

We kind of wandered around for a while and stopped in to watch the monster makeup show. If you have never seen this show, you should try to catch it. This guy is hysterical. He reminds me a lot of George Carlin … minus the foul language. And, unless you want to be part of the show, don’t sit up front. You may also get picked on and bled on.

After riding MIB again so I could video tape the full ride (and without flinging the camera during the spinning), we grabbed lunch at the sandwich shop near the front gate before heading over to Islands of Adventure for a couple hours. We don’t usually spend much time here since there are only a few rides we like.

Of course, our first stop is always Leo’s favorite, the Dr. Seuss el-train. Then we hop on over to one of my faves: Poseidon’s Fury.

Other than these two rides/shows, we spent a while just wandering until we came across the Harry Potter section. Now, neither one of us has ever seen a Harry Potter movie or read any of the books; we wanted to check it out. We had no clue what we were looking at, but it did look pretty cool. And I am assuming it was pretty good because of the crowd level. It was nearly shoulder-to-shoulder here while the rest of the park was pretty quiet.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%208/aIMGP3576small.jpg

It was crazy busy. There was even a one-and-a-half hour line to get into one of the shops. Not sure what the heck they were selling in there, but people were willing to wait an awful long time to get in. Even the line for the main ride was only 45 minutes. Plus, I physically could not squeeze my way into the shop at the end of the ride.

And, believe it or not, one of the employees told me this was a slow day. Glad we weren’t there on a busy day.

In our wandering we noticed several other clues that we were not in Disney anymore. From a trashy, smelly bathroom, to the non-Disney customer service, to the guests themselves. We actually saw a group of young women walking around the park in teeny weenie bikinis … and fanny packs. Huh? As far as I know, there are no water parks here. Whatever.

One of the things I have never liked about IA is that you just can’t get away from the heat. And this was a pretty hot, humid day.

Now, with this in mind, we approach my final potty predicament of the trip. Have you ever tried to use one of those paper toilet seat covers with a sweaty butt? Nuff said. I will let your imagination run with this one.

Another thing I hate about Universal and IA is their version of the fast pass system. If you are not familiar with it, you have to pay extra per ticket (I think around $20 or so each) and then you are restricted as to what rides you can use it on and on top of that, you can only use it once per ride. Again, Toto, we are not in Disney anymore.

Normally we stay pretty late, but today we left by about 6 p.m. for a couple reasons. One, we were getting bored and two, my daughter, son-in-law and the grands came in today and we were meeting them at their hotel this evening. I was getting excited too since this was to be Jasmine’s very first trip to the World. Plus, the little ones had no idea we were here. And, yes, my grands’ names are Christopher and Jasmine. Very Disney names, to be sure.

On our way back to the car in the King Kong parking lot, I stopped in one of the hubs for a soda. I paid my $2.50 and expected the 16-ouncer you get at Disney for that price. Not!! I was handed the tiniest freakin’ bottle I have ever seen. It was missing the thimble cup, but I downed this 8.5 ounces of ice cold gold in a couple swallows. Really? Hey, Toto!

Anyway, we were on our way back to the World … and couldn’t wait to get there. We went back to Shades to relax and grab a quick bite while we waited for Tanisha to call and let us know they were on their way to Pop Century, their hotel of choice. They had flown in earlier today and spent the day checking in and visiting Downtown Disney.

We got the call and headed to Pop. We were waiting at the bus stop when they pulled in. When the kids got off the bus they didn’t see me at first. It took a minute to comprehend that that was Lola and Lolo. Once it sunk in, I got a resounding “LOLA!!!” and a couple mega hugs. Then I put them down and they saw their all-time favorite person … “LOLO!!!!” It was quite the reunion. They even knocked the video out of Leo’s hand sending it clunking to the cement. That's me, the chunky butt in the khaki shorts and blue shirt over by the bus. (first time linking a video, hope it works)

Our little chatter box grandson showed us around the hotel grounds and to their room. Then they both showed us how to bounce from bed-to-bed and wall-to-wall on a combination of adrenaline, excitement and a fair amount of sugar.

Good luck to Jason and Tanisha getting them to sleep tonight. The parents were dead on their feet, but the kids were just getting started.

As we left them to deal with the little jumping beans, we headed home to bed ourselves. Tomorrow is going to be a very loooooooong and tiring day as we were opening Magic Kingdom with the family. Couldn’t wait for Jazzy to get her first look at “Lola’s house.”

Mickey's Philharmagic! My husbands favorite Disney attraction.

You are right! And it is one of my faves too. Although now I spend more time watching the audience. :lmao:

Chapter Nine: It’s Lola’s House!!!!

Now this is the day I have been waiting for our entire trip. The day we open Magic Kingdom with the grands. Although the grandson has been here many times in his life, this is the granddaughter’s very first visit.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3724.jpg

First, let me introduce the family. Tanisha is my DD and is a 28-year-old nursing student. She is an up-and-coming Disney freak like me, but not quite there yet. I think she has been to Disney 4-5 times over the years…her first trip at the age of 13. She wasn’t a big fan back then. Jason, the son-in-law, is about the same age as Tanisha and has been our official son-in-law for less than a month at the time of this trip. He was a good sport enough to agree to a trip to the World as their honeymoon. This is his second trip and, although he is not a Disney freak, he does enjoy it and is very understanding of his freaky mother-in-law.

The grands: Christopher is five (at the time of this trip) and he is my blond-haired, blue-eyed Munchkin … the only other blondie in the family other than me. He is a bit shy and slow to try new things. But boy, he sure can he talk … and talk, and talk, and talk. Jasmine is my cutie patutie Little Bit who looks just like her Mommy, but has an attitude like her old grandma Lola. Although she is three years old, she is a teeny weenie thing, but with a heart as big as Texas. She is a true dare devil and has no fear of anyone or anything … much to our fright sometimes.

That’s my family in a nutshell.

Now, the kids didn’t know we were meeting them at the park, so we got our happy, happy “Lola” and “Lolo” screaming and giggling greetings. I never get tired of that. Click on the photo below for the video.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/th_MAH00280.jpg (http://s954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/?action=view&current=MAH00280.mp4)

As we stood waiting for the opening ceremony, their eyes just darted here and there and were as wide as the ocean. They had no idea what was about to happen. But they could feel the excitement in the air and could see that Mommy and Lola were about to jump out of our skins.

Then the music began and they were mesmerized. I held Jazzy in my arms so she could see better (no, I did not put her on my shoulders) and Christopher was in front of us. When the train pulled in and Mickey hopped off, they both squealed “Mickey!” Jazzy nearly jumped out of my arms. That’s my babies!

They danced and clapped and giggled and had so much fun. I looked over at Tanisha and she was looking at them and had tears streaming down her face. Now, as a tough old soldier, crying is not my forte. But I can tell you, this scene put a lump in my throat for sure. It was a moment we will never get back, but that we will carry always.

Swallowing the lump, we began to gather our things to head into the park. But Christopher was still over in front of the wall … talking. Now he was carrying on a very serious conversation, but to whom, we had no idea. But then we realized, he was talking to Mickey who was still up at the train station looking down and waving. He really looked as if he was looking right at the Munchkin and listening to every word. Totally one of the cutest moments of the trip. Click on the photo below for video.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/th_MAH002832a.jpg (http://s954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/?action=view&current=MAH002832a.mp4)

I was a little disappointed that Disney no longer uses the red, white and blue streamers and confetti anymore in the opening ceremony. Maybe it is cost-cutting or ecological reasons, but I miss it. I am glad I picked some up last year. I am looking to pick up some of the Mickey glitter this year.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3657.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3658.jpg

Anyway, we managed to pry Christopher away from his intense conversation with Mickey and took a few photos before heading in. Since there were so many people, I picked Jazzy up and Christopher grabbed my hand. He took off on a run dragging me and sissy along with him. As we rounded the corner, they both squealed “your castle!” Made me smile.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3676.jpg

We headed straight to Fantasyland and to Dumbo first off. After the weeeeeeeee’s and giggles (oh, and the kids had fun too), we then made our way down to Pooh to start at that end and work our way towards Liberty Square. I just love the new interactive Q here. From there, we hopped from ride-to-ride and I still don’t know who had more fun, us or the kids.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3682.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3694.jpg

From watching them playing the pumpkin drums at Pooh’s place, to their attempts to grab the flying jewels in Philharmagic, to their booing of the mean old witch in Sleeping Beauty, to clapping along with them in It’s a Small World. It was like my first time in the parks all over again.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3720.jpg

After Fantasyland, we went to the Haunted Mansion. Since Christopher has done this ride before and Jazzy has no fear, we were sure they would not have any problems on this ride. We were right. They had a blast. And the new interactive Q here is fun too.

At this point, Tanisha and Jason wanted to take Christopher on Splash Mountain, his first “big ride.” Now, much to Jazzy’s dismay, she was too little to ride. This was a recurring event throughout the trip and she was very disappointed at the rides she could not do. We had to assure her she would be big enough on her next trip. My poor Little Bit.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3726.jpg

While they went on Splash, Leo and I took Jazzy on the paddle boat and to wander around Frontierland.

At some point, Leo saw Donald Duck setting up for a meet and greet across from the shooting gallery and he grabbed Jazzy and took off. It didn’t dawn on us that this was her very first character meet and that Tanisha and Jason would have wanted to be there. I still feel bad about that. But it made a really cute picture.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3745.jpg

We met back up and Christopher told us all about the ride and how much he loved it. Well, all except the big drop. That was not his favorite thing to do.

At about lunch time, Leo and I took the kids and (with the promise of no more character meets), we went one way and Tanisha and Jason headed to their ressies at the Liberty Tree Tavern. She is such a foodie! We, on the other hand, are not foodies and just grabbed a quick lunch at Pecos Bill’s. After lunch, we hit a few rides like Pirates (big surprise), the Jungle Cruise, Buzz Light Year and the People Mover. Christopher beat the pants off me on Buzz.

By the time we made it back to Main Street to meet back up with Jason and Tanisha for their fast pass time at the character meet and greet, we were early. So we hopped on the train for a quick ride around the park.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3808.jpg

By the time we made it back around, Jason and Tanisha were there waiting. I gave Jason my camera and, while they went in for the character meet, Leo headed off to the Hall of Presidents for a nap and I wandered Main Street … still looking for my 40th anniversary Minnie. Didn’t find her.

All the while I wandered, I kept scaring myself. I kept forgetting I gave my camera to Jason and thought I left it somewhere. Sheesh.

After visiting with Mickey and his friends, we all met back up and headed back into the park to hit a few of the kids’ favorite rides…all while hearing all about meeting everyone.

About 30 minutes before the Electrical Parade, Leo, Jason and the kids went in search of a spot. Tanisha and I veered off to have some mother/daughter bonding over Capt. Jack. Bet ya didn’t see that coming.

Continued in next post.

There was no line to speak of, so we pretty much walked on. However, we should have waited for the next boat. This boat was filled with people who thought the “no flash photography” rule didn’t apply to them. There were at least four people who kept flashing all the way through. We felt like we were in a freakin’ disco and were half blinded by the time we got off the ride. Didn’t enjoy it at all. I should have pulled out my big flash and set it to the highest setting and turned around and flashed every one of them. With my luck, I would be the one to get in trouble.

I really hate people sometimes.

Anyway, with no time left for a second run, we headed out to find the boys … and Jazzy. They found a spot on the edge of Liberty Square close to the bridge. It was actually a pretty cool spot for pics of the floats with the castle in the background.

As the parade was getting ready to begin and the announcer was, well, announcing, this toddler across from us started to have a serious melt down. She was totally out of control and inconsolable. Now, most of us would have taken the kid out of the situation to calm her down and stop annoying everyone within 50 yards. But noooooooo, not this parent. She was even drowning out the announcer. The kid, not the mother.

I don’t know when she finally calmed down, I tuned her out once the parade started.

When the first float crossed the bridge and came into sight, the kids were enchanted. Their eyes got wide, their mouths hung open and they were speechless … even Christopher. Loved it!

I didn’t want to use my flash and blind both of them, and everyone around them, so my photos aren’t lit very well, but I captured their priceless expressions.

Once the parade ended, the kids headed to Main Street to grab a spot for the fireworks. I wanted to duck into the Christmas shop on the way.

Leo and I made it to the hub just as the new show “Memories” was beginning. He stayed up front while I made my way back to where the kids were … in front of Casey’s. By the time I found them, I had missed the entire Memories show. But that’s ok, I really wanted to be with the grands for Wishes.

Fat chance. They were both totally and completely out of it and down for the count by the time I caught up with them. And they slept through everything, even being tripped over several times by people not paying attention to where they were pushing … I mean, walking.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3980.jpg

I managed a few decent shots from our center-of-Main spots. But I have never been a big fan of watching from here. Way too crowded.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3974small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3957small.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP4257small.jpg

As the crowds pressed towards the gate after the show, we ducked to the side and out of the flow near Casey’s. Leo caught up with us and we just hung out for a while to let the crowds thin out.

Since Leo and I were taking the kids for the night, we split off at the gate. Tanisha and Jason stayed at the park. But since we had to turn the stroller in, we ended up carrying the sleeping rug rats.

I had wanted to wait a while longer and wait for the monorail lines to shorten. But Leo just can’t seem to sit still sometimes, so we headed out. Well, once we were outside the gates, the line for the monorail wound around and around and had to be thousands of people long. Great.

Little Bit may be a teeny little thing, but she sure did get heavy flopped over my shoulder sound asleep. And I could see Leo was feeling the pain too with the Munchkin. I think my arms lengthened by at least an inch.

Thankfully, the line moved much quicker than I thought and we were on the fourth monorail. And, thankfully, a couple people were kind enough to give us their seats.

Since we weren’t about to walk up to Shades from the Poly, we got off at TTC and grabbed the bus home. By the time we got back to Shades, the kids woke up with a second wind. Once in the room, they were bouncing around and wide awake. And, as soon as I said it was time to get ready for bed, the whining started. “But I’m not tired.” “I don’t wanna go to bed.” “We aren’t sleepy.” “Nooooooo. Lolaaaaa. Pleeeeeeeze!”

Now, getting Christopher ready for bed was quite amusing. Obviously, he had dressed himself this morning. When I pulled his shorts off, I found that he had both legs through one leg hole of his undies!

I started to laugh and asked him if that wasn’t uncomfortable all day. He just started to giggle and giggle. What a goof bucket! And when I told Leo, the laugh fest started all over again.

At least Jazzy had one leg in each leg hole.

Of course, these two “not tired” and “not sleepy” kiddos were fast asleep within minutes of their heads hitting the pillows.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chapter%209/aIMGP3985.jpg

Nah, not tired at all! But then, I was out in minutes too. What a great Disney day!

=================

Now, this video was not taken on our day together. It was taken at Animal Kingdom after Leo and I had gone home. But I just had to share it. It is possibly the cutest video I have ever seen. Of course, I am a bit biased. It is of Jazzy dancing along with the African drummers. I just love the look of total exhaustion at the very end.

This is DD checking in to say hi to all of my moms fans. I sure have cute kids don't I. Reading my moms trip report makes me regret not writing one of my own for Jasmines very first trip. I will have to do it for her next trip. Of course I promised her that we will not go back until she is tall enough to ride the rides....that may be a while. :sad2: The kids had a wonderful time with their Lola and Lolo and I don't think we will ever take a Disney trip without haveing at least one with Lola and Lolo. Keep reading guys there is one more day with my lovely sweeties. Well half day at least.

Thanks sherylcin, we had more fun then they did I think. :lmao: Next time we will have to overlap our vacations by more than a couple days to spend more time with them. Lola and Lolo are actually Tagalog (the hubby is from the Philippines) for grandmother and grandfather. I like it too because it doesn't make me feel as old. :cool1:

Chapter Ten: And the force was with us

Today was originally our “alone day” when Leo and I split up for the day to do our own thing. It’s one of my favorite days of my vacation. Not that I don’t love spending time with the hubby, but I really love my alone time too.

Anyway, with the kids here, it would have been another day with the kids, but they wanted to do the first day of Star Wars Weekends. Can’t blame them. Especially since it was rumored that George Lucas may show up. Both Jason and Christopher are big time Star Wars fans.

Since major, major crowds were expected and I am notorious for avoiding them when at all possible, Leo would stay with the kids and I would split off on my own. I know … a crowd phobic person who loves Disney World?

We pried the kids out of bed early so we could get them to Hollywood Studios before opening. Padowan Chris needed to sign up for Jedi training and had to be at the park at rope drop. As you can see, the kids were not quite awake when we headed for the bus.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP3987.jpg

But Christopher was awake enough to be in character. He used “the force” to open all the doors on the way out. What was cool too was that the people in front of us would step aside and let Christopher go first so he could use the force to open the doors for all of us. Fun people at Shades.

We finally made it to the Studios and Jason whisked Christopher off for sign-up and Leo and Tanisha headed into the park with Jazzy. I made my way over to the boats to grab one to Epcot. On the way, I ran into Jedi Mickey and Princess Minnie being interviewed on live TV.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP3998.jpg

After taking some pics, I headed out to Epcot. I was meeting my Dis friend Rosemary there today and I figured I would do some shopping and wandering there in the mean time.

I got there about 30 minutes after park opening and found the place completely empty. I guess everyone was over at Star Wars Weekend.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4020.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4019.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4018.jpg

First I headed off to Test Track, which I found to be a walk-up with not one person in line ahead of me. I took my time along the Q to look around and take a few pics. A few people passed me, but not many. When I made it to the pre-show room, I really was all alone. If I knew how to do cart wheels, I would have done a few. But, just as the doors were closing, a young family hopped in. Shoot, no pirouettes either.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4024.jpg

When we got to the cars, I shared the front seat with two young men from Brazil. The one seated next to me was quite chatty … and more than a bit nervous. As the car headed out, he was hanging on for dear life, white knuckled and woo-hooing the whole way. And that was just up to the seat belt check point. He sure did have fun.

I hopped off and back on for a second run and then scooted over to Soarin’. Even an hour after opening, the line for Soarin’ was still just 30 minutes. And it actually only took about 15 to get on.

My plan was to jump off Soarin’ and head over to Spaceship Earth. I was really enjoying this nearly empty park. Well, you know what they say about best laid plans. When I got out of Soarin’, I found that someone had opened the flood gates. In just that short amount of time, the place was mobbed and the wait time for Soarin’ had jumped to 50 minutes.

Sheesh! I guess my initial thought was wrong and that everyone decided to sleep in a bit and then bolt to Epcot.

And, as for Spaceship Earth, the line was all the way around the side of the building. I have never seen it this long before. About this time I got a text from Rosemary saying they were on their way so I decided to sit on the wall near Spaceship Earth to wait for them … and be very amazed at the line which just kept getting longer and longer.

As I sat waiting, I got a panicked call from Tanisha. They were not sure if Leo had taken Christopher and were not able to get him to answer his phone. The place was so packed it was literally shoulder-to-shoulder and they could not see them in this sea of people.

I texted Rosemary that I was, unfortunately, not going to be able to make our meet, and made a mad dash to the gate. As I jumped on the monorail and headed to the Studios, I had this sickening pit in my stomach. I was positive that Christopher was safely with Leo (he would never lose sight of him), but there was always that slim chance and it scared the hell out of me. I could not imagine what Tanisha and Jason were feeling. Even though the mystery was solved in less than 30 minutes, it was the longest 30 minutes of our lives.

He was, indeed, with Leo. Leo thought Jason knew he had Christopher, but since Jason didn’t actually see them leave together, he was not sure. And it is always better to err on the side of caution. Jason did exactly the right thing.

Since by the time I was on the bus to the Studios, the situation was settled; I turned around and headed to Magic Kingdom. My alone day was quickly dwindling.

Once I got to MK, it was close to noon and my tummy no longer had that pit in it … it was now rumbling quite a lovely tune. Time for lunch. I decided to go to Cosmic Ray’s in Tomorrowland. I use to do lunch at about 2 p.m. to avoid the crowds, but I think everyone started doing that because the crowds are now heaviest between 1-2 p.m. Sooooo … now I eat lunch at about noon.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4072.jpg

Today the lunch crowd was pretty light and I had my burger within minutes. Burger in hand, I headed out to the back balcony for a seat. I guess this area is not well known because there weren’t many people out here. I grabbed a table with a beautiful view of my house and a piece of the street party.

After a nice, relaxing lunch I wandered the park looking for “Where in the World” photos and hopped on a few of my fave rides. I ended up having an entire train all to myself on the People Mover. Pretty cool.

Then, of course, I headed on over to jump on the Haunted Mansion and Pirates. Bet you didn’t see that coming. On my way through Frontierland headed towards Pirates, I noticed one of those electric scooters sitting right in the middle if the road. And I do mean ‘right in the middle.’ I stood there for a few minutes to see if the rider maybe just jumped off real quick to take a pic or something, but no one claimed it and no one showed a bit of interest. Very strange.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4096.jpg

Anyway, I then headed for Pirates for what was possibly my very last ride of the trip. So sad. This time, however, it was no longer Davy Jones’ face in the falling fog, but Black Beard. I like Jones better.

Oh yah, while I was in line, I had to listen to the guy in front of me continuously sing “yo ho and a body of rum” over and over. If you just have to be annoying by singing loud and off key, at least get the words right!

Luckily I was able to get a different boat than he was on. Of course, I managed to embarrass myself pretty well all on my own.

I shared the front seat with two guys who had never ridden before and they asked if we would get wet. Of course, being the veteran Pirates rider I am, I told them no, not at all. I am right, right?

Wrong!

Even though I have ridden this ride dozens of times … on just this trip alone … and have never gotten wet, ever; this trip was different. As we came down the minor drop, the boat hit just right (or, wrong, in this case) and I was flooded as a waterfall gushed over the side and into my lap. I was soaked to the skin. And red-faced to boot.

Those guys were a bit surprised, to say the least, as was I. I just kept saying, “that has never happened before” over and over. At the end of the ride, I said it one last time and slunk away to drip dry in hiding.

Continued in next post.

I found a sunny spot to hide and dry when I received another text from Tanisha. At least this was not a panicked message this time. She was telling me that our little Padowan’s Jedi Training was set for 6 p.m. so I needed to head out soon.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4004.jpg

After a few more stops and a couple rides, I headed out. I made it to the Studios by about 5:30 and hoped I could push my way through the crowds in time. I have never seen so many freakin’ people in one place before. It was pretty ridiculous.

By the way, why is it I always look both ways before stepping into the ‘streets’ at the Studios?

With about 10 minutes to spare, I found Tanisha, Leo and Jazzy all the way up front to the left of the stage. Jason found a spot on the other side so we could get different angles for our photos and videos.

As the “younglings” made their way to the stage, they put Christopher right up at the front of the stage, directly in front of us. Perfect!

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4182.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4179.jpg

Now, the Jedi master seemed rather taken with Christopher and stayed next to him using him as an example for most of the show. It was probably because Christopher just would not stop talking. The master actually gave him the nickname of Chatterbox. He also kept commenting on Christopher’s “special” and “fancy” robe. Of course, that made me puff up a little with pride because I hand made it myself special for this occasion.

Anyway, when they were done with the training and were up to go toe-to-toe with Darth Vader himself, we were a bit concerned that Christopher may not want to do it. Even though he is quite the chatterbox, he does have a bit of a shy streak sometimes. And being on stage all by himself in front of hundreds of people and facing off against Darth Vader … shoot, I may have chickened out myself.

Not a chance. He stood up to Vader, no sweat, and took him down! That’s our “35 pounds of unbridled fury.” Click on the photo below for a quick video.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/th_jedichris_short.jpg (http://s954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/?action=view&current=jedichris_short.mp4)

When the training was finished, Leo and I had to say our quick goodbyes and head out. We had 8 p.m. ressies for the fireworks dessert party back at Magic Kingdom.

We made it with some time to spare. So, of course, I headed into the shops and Leo headed to the potty. Still no 40th anniversary Minnie … and, yes, still pasty legs, even after 10 days in the Florida sun.

By this time, I headed to meet Leo at check in at the Terrace. The fireworks didn’t start until 9, but we were able to check in starting at 8. Once in, we found our table … right up front and center. Again … perfect! Told you the force was with us today. Well, except for the soaking on Pirates. And the dessert buffets were phenomenal. There were at least five buffet tables with dozens of different kinds of yummy treats on each. I could feel my glucose numbers rising just looking at everything. But, I was very good for the past few days just so that I could splurge a little tonight.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4235.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4234.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4233.jpg

I set up my camera and tripod up by the wall and helped myself to some yummies. Everything I tried was so good and Leo, who tried just about everything on all the tables (I hate him sometimes), liked it all too.

Just as the memories show began, a slight breeze began to blow across the terrace and a few sprinkles tumbled down. Oh no, not rain now. Not tonight. But it was just that, a few sprinkles, and it was gone.

This was the first time I actually got to see the full show and it was actually pretty cool. Even though you really couldn’t see the pictures unless you were closer to the castle, I loved it. Especially when they had fireworks pictured on the face of the castle that lined up perfectly with the real fireworks behind the castle. It was like they were coming right out of the castle.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4253.jpg

I just don’t know how the Imagineers do some of the things they do. Guess that’s why they call it magical.

Wishes was spectacular, as usual. And made even better by our location. Of course, we use to come to this spot to watch for free, but progress is progress, I guess. I can tell you one thing: to me, it was worth the money. If I remember right, it was about $60 for the two of us. But, since there were so few of us and the desserts were great and in abundance, I couldn’t kick.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4279.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4333.jpg

It was, however, bitter sweet. This was our last night in the parks. But what a way to close out our vacation. I just wish the kids could have joined us. But their trip was not finalized in time for the ressies. They are pretty hard to get.

If you ever have the opportunity, the dessert party is something fun to experience, at least once. And, to me, is worth every penny. I plan on doing it again next trip.

After the fireworks and party, Leo and I headed deeper into the park to make the most of every last minute. I find if we are as far to the back of the park as possible at closing, and move as slowly as humanly possible, we are among the last down Main Street and out the gate.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP2923.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP4079.jpg

We did manage to get one last ride on both the Haunted Mansion and Pirates before our very slow walk to the gate. Stopping along the way for a last few pics, we couldn’t put it off anymore. If we procrastinated any longer, the night crew would be sweeping us out the door.

More pics around my house and we were on our way down Main Street for the last time in 2011. Sniffle, sniffle. Boo hoo.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20Chap%2010/bIMGP2530.jpg

Since we really wanted to stretch out the night as long as possible, we took the monorail to the Poly and walked up the hill to Shades.

Once we made it back to the room, I sat out on the balcony relaxing, listening to my froggies and wishing this was our first night instead of our last. Big sigh! Only 11 months, two weeks until our next visit. Of course, by the time this is posted, it will be more like six months … woo-HOOOOOO!!

I couldn’t postpone it anymore. I needed to get some sleep for the long drive home tomorrow. Of course, even though we were not doing any parks tomorrow, we were still going to spend some time at Downtown Disney. So we were not entirely done … yet.

Photos from throughout the day:

That was a very eventful last day! By my count you made it to 3 parks and had a great time. Love the pics especially the ones of your house. Your grandson is too cute doing his Jedi training. I think he must be pretty serious about the whole thing!

Thanks also for the great review of the Dessert Party. I tried to make ressies for it in February just a couple of days ago but they've only got it scheduled through the end of the year right now. I'll keep checking back hoping they extend it again. Since there will only be 3 of us (instead of the usual 13) it seems much more feasible to do.

Last days are bittersweet for sure. Our trips always fly by so fast even when we're there for two weeks. At least you already have a countdown for your next one! :goodvibes

I am hoping to get the next chapter up this week. :yay:

Our guess is Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom.

Yes, he is indeed very serious about his Star Wars stuff. He even said he did NOT want to wear his robe for Halloween because "Halloween is for pretend dress up. My robe is real." :lmao:

And, keep trying on those ressies. I had to keep checking a couple times a week and lucked out to get the day I did. They go very quickly when they do open the ressies. But it is worth the effort. I hope you get a table up front too.

Dropped the ball on my TR "research" for a while but made it back to catch up on yours. Loved it! Thanks for sharing.

One question- is tha path behind the tree in AK a rough trail or is it stroller friendly? I need calm places to wander when my little ones are sleeping and I'd love to see this.

Those desserts look amazing, it will definitely be fun to do an adult trip someday.

Yes, the trail is stroller friendly and would be a perfect place for napping. There are several benches throughout for you to kick back and rest too. I just hope it doesn't get "discovered" by too many people. Right now it is very quiet and you run in to very few people. You can get to it by turning left out the exit after the Bugs 3D or by the entrance across from Pizzafari or by the entrance behind the Bugs fast pass machines. Have fun!:thumbsup2

Off to my first day of work at ... the Disney Store!!! What a place for me to work, right? DH warned me not to leave my entire paycheck at the store. :lmao:

It is only a seasonal position here in Maryland and doesn't pay much, but hey, it's a job and I have been searching for what seems like forever. Three years and no luck in my career field, so it's time to try another avenue.

Chapter Eleven: Really? It’s over already?

This chapter is light on words but heavy on photos. This is my truly boohoo day … our last day at the World. I don’t wanna goooooooo!

Oh man. This is the day I have been dreading since day one. Such an empty feeling knowing we have to say goodbye for another year. Makes you want to pull the covers over your head and pretend you don’t know.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/aIMGP1317.jpg

Well, we slept in until about 9 a.m. and could not put it off anymore. The sooner we are out of this room, the sooner the next family can get in. After I was packed and showered, Leo hopped in the shower and I went out on the deck to relax for the last few minutes. I don’t wanna gooooooo!

Finally, having no more excuses, we finally packed it up and were out the door by the 11 a.m. check out time. Car packed, final check of the room made and our silent goodbyes said, we headed out.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/aIMGP4398.jpg

I hate all those goodbye signs on the way out. Funny how you never notice them any other day. I don’t wanna goooooooo!

The only good thing about the day is that we aren’t hitting the road just yet. We headed to Downtown Disney for a few hours.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/aIMGP4406.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/aIMGP4402.jpg

It has become our tradition to hit DTD on our last day. This not only gives us one last shot of Disney before heading home, but gives us the chance to get those forgotten or last minute souvies. In my case this year, it was one last chance to find that ever elusive 40th anniversary Minnie.

My first stop is always the Christmas Shoppe. And this year the hubby was crazy enough to let me loose in there all by myself. Silly him. Of course, he is lucky I was at the end of my souvie money and didn’t go too too crazy. Just a little crazy.

With my treasures in hand, I stopped over at the pin hut to pick up a few limited edition pins before scooting over to the Disney Store. I wanted to get in there before Leo came back and tsk, tsked me for my purchases. After all, he was over at the new vinylmation store going crazy himself. By the time we finally left, he had about 15 of the silly things.

Anyway, I don’t know how long I was wandering around being jealous of those who had obviously just arrived and just looking aimlessly trying to stretch every last minute. As I made my way around a corner and through a crowd, there she was!!! Up towards the top of a circular rack sat about six 40th anniversary Minnies! And, yes, Rosemary. That is exactly what you think it is under Minnie's feet. Perfect match, don't ya think?

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/IMGP5813small.jpg

After inspecting all six and picking out the most perfect, I nearly danced my way to the teller.

All checked out and thrilled to have my Minnie tucked safely under my arm, I headed out to meet Leo. I don’t wanna gooooooo!!!

We caught up with each other and reluctantly decided we couldn’t put it off anymore. Well, maybe just a bit more. We stopped for a quick lunch. I wish I could remember where we ate. I think it was a new place … maybe even where McDonalds use to be. Not sure. I just remember it was some pretty good chicken.

Anyway, after lunch we headed to the car. I don’t wanna goooooooo!!!

On the way past the Disney Store, I noticed a lady sitting on a bench with the coolest umbrella. It was black with a Mickey face on it and big Mickey ears sticking up off the top. It was so damned cute I just had to go ask her where she got it.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/IMGP5824.jpg

Much to the hubby’s dismay, she got it right there at the Disney Store, but you had to ask at the counter for it. It was not out with the regular merchandise. Done and done! Now I proudly walk in the rain with my very own Mickey ears umbrella. It does get a reaction here at home.

With all our bundles, we finally made it to the car and, with one stop for gas and ice, we were on the road by about 2 p.m.

I don’t wanna goooooooo!!! Wait, I think I have said that already.

Can anyone tell me why Leo would put $29.94 worth of gas in the car? Why not just splurge with that extra .06 cents! Yet another question for which there is no answer. And another question: why the heck does that bother me?? I just can’t stand anything uneven or out of place.

I took the first leg of the drive and handed the camera to Leo. And he took pictures of everything on the way out. And I do mean EVERYTHING. Glad it’s a digital and not film.

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/aIMGP4418.jpg

http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/jusero_photos/Dis%202011%20-%20chap%2011/aIMGP4422.jpg

The drive was pretty sad and uneventful. It had none of the joy and excitement of the trip down. We were, however, happy about getting home to our kitties. And before you think of us as ogres for not being excited to see the family … they were still down at Disney for the rest of the week.

When we stopped for the night, we realized why Disney was so crowded this week. A couple of guys in the hall were talking about the end of the world. Oh yah! I forgot that, according to the Aztec calendar, today was suppose to be the end of the world. But after 10 days at Disney, what a way to go.

The last leg of the trip home was long and boring, but we finally made it home safe and sound.

Now starts the Disney withdrawal and depression. At least writing this TR has made it easier … and has brought me to less than six months until we go back. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to talk about the trip to people who actually want to hear about it. Most of my friends and family here turn all glassy-eyed when I start talking Disney. Guess you just have to be a fellow Disney freak to enjoy the stories.

Well, until next year … have a very Disney and magical year!!!!

Here are photos from throughout the trip that didn’t make the cut … or, at least, I don’t remember posting them before.

Believe it or not, I didn't buy a single thing. It might be because the register was closed out by the time I was finished in the back. :lmao:

I loved your report and photography! Your pictures always bring a smile or a tear! The picture of Devine made me gasp!

Have fun working at the Disney Store. I have always wanted to work there, but I don't think I would ever come home with a paycheck. :lmao:

Great TR! While I was sitting here reading this at work this morning :rolleyes1 I have become even more excited about our upcoming Disney trip this coming May. Our last trip was this past may so completely understand what you are going through in terms of Disney withdraw.

Also I really loved the perspective it gave for grandparents being able to spend some time at "The World" with their grandchildren. My wife, DD, and both my parents went with us in May 2010 for my DD first trip to Disney World. She had just turned 3. That's all my mom could talk about this past summer. It also brought back some great memories of when my parents used to take me and my brother and sister when we were little ones :)

This write up put a lot of smiles on my face this morning! Thanks

Just got all caught up. You have some great pictures in this report. It's like a little mini Disney vacation. Thanks for sharing! Know what you mean about not wanting to goooooo. The dreaded "last day" always comes way too soon!

I'm so jealous of your new job at the Disney Store. My dream retirement job is to work somewhere at WDW but the Disney Store would be a good fill in! :goodvibes

Look forward to your next report!

BTW, I have NO idea about the newest Where in the World. Waiting to see who gets this one...........

How's the Disney Store?

The Disney Store is going great! Thanks for asking. I am loving it and am a much better salesman than I thought. I guess if you believe in what you are selling, you can sell. And our store was named the 'gold store' for our area. I am not looking forward to the week after Christmas though. :lmao:

Nope. Hint: It is not in a park, but is close to Dis friend Rosemary's heart.

I just found this new thread someone just started asking for our ideas on counting down to Disney. I think it would be great fun to hear everyone's different ideas and traditions on how you all count down to your Disney trips. I just posted mine: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2880412

Hope to read all of your creative, fun and even silly ideas.
