It is a truth universally acknowledged that a young girl in possession of a great love for Disney must be in want of a trip to the most magical place on earth!

Lucky for this Disney Snob that trip is happening now! I am posting live from the Treetop Villas (which are gorgeous, can't wait to share my pics!!) at Disney World. :cool1::cool1:

No time for a full update now, but just wanted to start the thread up. Save this spot guys, a new Disney Snob TR is starting soon! :snooty::banana:

<3 Emma

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I suppose I'd better start this thing up properly!
In case you don't know me, I'm Emma, resident Disney Snob:snooty:! I'm not a mean snob though, I promise, I'm a friendly snob! My nose is only in the air when it comes to Disney -- I've never been to Universal and have a tendency to look down on lesser theme parks. :rolleyes1 But then the pixie dust of the Disney parks will do that to you!
This is my seventh trippie on the DIS, and the cast and crew (aka, my family, the "Snobbish" family) are just as crazy as ever! Without further adieu, a few introductions:
princess: Emma: Hey, that's me! Disney Snob. Recent Notre Dame Grad (still job seeking. drat this economy!). Follies and nonsense do divert me, but my favorite things are Disney princesses, chocolate, and books (especially brit lit and Jane Austen -- get the title?? Sense and Snobbery instead of Sense and Sensibility?? yes??). Oh, and the Polynesian is my Pemberley. :)
:earsgirl: Momma Snob: My lovely mother! Disney planner extraordinaire. Terrible tease but always terribly fun to be with!
:earsboy: The Dad: Father of our Snobbish Clan. Keeps us all in line. Likes historical, brainy things.
:yoda: Aramis: Older brother and Cast Member (if you ever had some debonair fellow seat you at Chef Mickey's, it might've been him!). Gets us the discounts. Oh yeah. Into anime and pokemon and such.
:darth: Porthos: Brother No. 2. College Sophomore (no wait, really? my baby brother?? where does the time go?). Has the coolest and most extensive collection of dorky t-shirts that you will ever see. Mad about Star Trek, sciency stuff, and ordered burgers at every single TS meal this trip. I'm not kidding.
:stitch2: Athos: Third Brother. High School Sophomore. Constantly quoting either Phineas and Ferb or Shakespeare. (His favorite insult: "Thou art a villain. Thou art a fish." Recently he got a fortune cookie that said "It's hard to be fabulous. But you are." Only he made up the second sentence. Loves dinos, creatures, and critters of every kind.
pirate: Dart: Adorable Youngest Brother. Second Grader. Still has a little crush on Minnie, though he won't admit it. ;) Into cars and vehicles and trains most especially (naturally he's a big Disney transportation fan). Was SUPER excited to see Cars II at Downtown Disney at the end of our trip.
Add in a few mini princess mascots you'll meet along the way and a few frogs and lizards Athos caught and that's everybody!
The where? DISNEY WORLD of course! And the Treehouse Villas and a little bit of Riverside and a pinch of Polynesian club level! Ready for loads of photos, plenty of adventures, a little sense, and some Disney snobbery? Then you've come to the right trip report!:banana::banana:
Heyyyy DISERS!!
So it was an absolutely marvellous trip with the family! I took soo many photos (as usual, lol :thumbsup2) -- only this time I had a brand new used Canon Rebel XT (it was my big graduation present!). So expect even prettier pics than ever! :banana: Except for when I couldn't get the settings right, then expect blurrier pics than ever. :rotfl:
I'll try to get some of the treehouse pics up tonight so I can get started tomorrow. Although I still have the old trippie to finish too!! lol, I gotta get moving!
Thanks for all your lovely good wishes and replies! So happy to have all you friends on board for another TR! :goodvibes
It was the beginning of the trip. The VERY beginning. This is always my favorite part of a trip report to read and my favorite part to write. It's just so EXCITING. The whole trip before you, all the fun and all the pixie dust just waiting - you always wish you could bottle the feeling up, make it last longer.
The weeks leading up to a trip are full of anticipation and excitement, and then once you get in the car and drive off it's great, but that eve before/morning of departure is not so pretty. Athos had his last exam that morning and got home at 11, we had planned to leave at noon. As usual we were dashing back and forth, getting annoyed because someone (coughATHOScough) misplaced something or other, getting frustrated because people had packed too much (heh...that one might've been me...), etc. etc.
At last all pins, ponchos, sunscreen, Disney wardrobe accoutremounts, gameboys, books, and everything else was packed away and stuffed into the van. Dad asked if I had remembered my glasses for the seventeenth time (still yes Dad!), then Mom asked yet again if we all had our cell phones and finally we were off around 2pm -- only two hours late, not too bad!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/436.jpg
I love our route down to Florida on I-81, those mountains are just so beautiful!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/437.jpg
Dart got a Cars car present, how appropriate! We were going to see Cars 2 at Downtown Disney when it premiered -- Dart mentioned it every day of the trip, he was so excited!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/446.jpg
More pretty scenery...
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/448.jpg
Entering Maryland!
Amy, I thought of you when we entered West Virginia! We had to make our obligatory stop at the WV welcome center and take a few pics of course!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/453.jpg
I was breaking in my new Disney crocs!! The style was called crocband, they had a little navy band around the side, really cute and slightly smaller and more understated than a normal croc. (If a croc can be understated that is!)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/187.jpg
We're on our way to the magic! And thinking of other Disney drivers on the east coast heading down to Florida, I decided to leave a tiny pinch of pixie dust:
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/186.jpg
I drew a tiiiiinny hidden mickey on the side of the sign -- if you drive through you'll have to stop and look for it!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/458.jpg
Yes, the one and only Mia was coming along as trip mascot again!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/461.jpg
She enjoyed waving to the truckers.
We brought along rolls and deli meats from Wegmans to make sandwiches in the car as usual. We listened to the radio and Mom's ipod -- plenty of Disney Mania! Dart's new favorite song is "Mean" by Taylor Swift, and we sang it over and over again!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/464.jpg
Because I couldn't resist...more of the pretty scenery.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/465.jpg
That is one steep road!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/466.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/469.jpg
I love the open road and the leafy green mountains, the hills golden in the sunlight. It's just heart-singingly beautiful. On long drives you can just be still and watch the scenery go by, you don't have to worry about anything or get anything done, you can just sit back and daydream.
I drove for a few hours in the evening. There was a back-up on the highway, so we got off and wound around right at the foot of the hills. The sky was all lit up in blues and pinks by the sunset. With the rising hills and the setting sun and the pink-tinged sailboat clouds, some country music on the radio, it was such a pleasure to be driving.
It was Dad's turn after a bit, and I got to sit up front because Dart wanted Mom to watch the Saturdays with him. Soon it got dark and everybody was sleeping. I watched the J&R billboards go by and dozed a little. I was awake when we passed by Yadkinville though (my mom loves that name!).
We were still an hour or so from Charlotte, where we were stopping for the night, and the tiredness and being cramped up in the car was making me feel loopy. So when a flatbed truck with a large mysterious lumpy thing covered in a tarp passed by us, I started wondering what it was.
Then I decided there was only one thing it could be. A baby elephant.
Obvi.
I tried to get a picture but it came out blurry. If you had been there, I'm sure you would've agreed with me. Dad was just like "Yeah sure, whatever you say." Mom woke up after awhile and was like "Why an elephant? Why not a UFO? Why not a gigantic big mac."
I told her not to be ridiculous.
It was clearly a baby elephant, I could just imagine it's trunk sticking out of the tarp to wave at me. It's name would be Alyosha. "Alyosha" just sounds right. The truck remained driving just a few cars ahead of us for an hour or more, so I had plenty of time to speculate over this.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/190.jpg
A blurry picture of the truck. Alyosha didn't like having his picture taken.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/630.jpg
This was a explanatory picture I drew the next day.
I also passed the time by admiring the moon. It was very big and bright in the sky.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/474.jpg
That circle is the moon!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/477.jpg
I experimented with the exposure and tried to get some funky night driving pictures.
At long last we arrived at our hotel, feeling extremely tired and goofier than ever. Mom had used priceline to bid, and we had two rooms at a nice Hyatt. Athos, Porthos, and I had one of them. We came in and, since Dad wasn't there to tell us to put our shoes by the door, deliberately took them off wherever we wanted.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/197.jpg
Athos is also showing you his tap dancing skillz in this picture.
Athos then started skipping across the room, so I did too. We then pretended to be elephants in honor of Alyosha and jumped around. Typing this now it sounds extremely loopy even for us, lol. And we hadn't even touched the mini bar, promise! :rotfl:
Finally exhausted by our shenanigans we rolled into bed. Next day it was FLORIDA AND DISNEY BABYYY!
I am driving to WV this weekend, so I am looking forward to catching some of the same scenery.
Can't wait to see the treehouse. My 11 month booking window is just around the corner!
Enjoying the report! Wow as much as I am on this board and think Im an expert I must have been under a ROCK to not know TreeHouse Villas is open again!
That is the resort that was closed down due for years due to a hurricane right? I remember passing it on the boat from POR to DTD?
Great start. I am glad you enjoy you road trips. I haven't been able to convince myself that it if fun to ride in cars for that long, but I am still trying. We also drive to WDW. Our trip is about 13 hours. How long is yours?
So happy Mia is along this trip. My dd is getting her first AG doll for her birthday this year. She doesn't really play with dolls but she wants an AG one and her grandparents send her money every year for her birthday so we are going to take her to the the AG store so she can pick out her very own AG doll. I was cracking up over your antics in the hotel room.:lmao:
Yay!! Great first update. I cracked up when you said "I told her to not be ridiculous" about your mom. :rotfl:
I'm sorry you couldn't find our frogfish friend! My friend Kara was just there two days ago and was marveling at the awesome that is Mr. Frogfish, so I don't know why he wasn't there! hmm
a baby elephant! I love it!!! :rotfl:
So glad you're starting up!! I'm eager to hear about the treehouse and the "twist!"
More coming up! :goodvibes
Love the little pixie dust you left in West Virginia, so cute. If only I drove to Disney than I would go look for that =D And I love the pictures of the scenery along your trip, so nice :goodvibes The Baby Elephant LOL I find that fantastic, I could never even think of that being under tarp, it's so cute and I love the name. Alyosha :thumbsup2 Can't wait to read about your first day in the most magical place on Earth! :mickeyjum
Haha, a baby elephant was just the first thing that came to mind! :thumbsup2
Joining in as well. I totally agree, the beginning of the trip is always so exciting and I love writing those updates too. I like your little hidden Mickey. :)
Welcome! I do just love the beginning!
Joining in! Maybe it was a baby elephant on its way to living at Animal Kingdom!
Welcome!! OF COURSE it must've been on its way to the AK, why didn't I think of that?? :rotfl::thumbsup2
Have you seen the show on HGTV...My Yard Goes Disney? They have brought some very interesting things to these yards on the back of a flatbed trailer - and it seems like an elephant may have been one of them! :rotfl:
We caught about 10 minutes of that show actually while we were on the road, it looks fabulous!
I love your TR's .... and Jane Austen !! Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite and my favorite film adaptation is the 1995 A&E version. Colin Firth as Darcy ?? The best !!! I also love Sense and Sensibility and have you ever read/seen Persuasion ?? The one with Amanda Root in it ?? It is classic !! And Emma of course !! We were there the same time you were and bought into SSR as well. We are very excited about trying out the villas !!! Can't wait to see all of your photos !!
Woo hoo for a fellow Jane Austen fan! Welcome! I LOVE that Persuasion, and I love the book as well. I can never make up my mind whether P&P, Emma, or Persuasion is my favorite JA novel, they're all so good!
:rotfl:
;)
So glad Mia's on the trip! Can't wait to see mascot pictures. Did you bring any AG Doll dresses again this trip? I adore them. :goodvibes
I didn't bring the princess dresses I'd made...I forgot where I put them! But I did have a really cute Hawaiin dress from AG that I took plenty of pics of her in at the Poly! :banana:
Of course baby elephants travel by flatbed trailer. Isn't that the way all elephants travel?!
I like your scenery pics. I think WV looks a lot like Tennessee. I hope the beautiful scenery continues.
Naturally, lol! I have some Florida drive+beach pics coming up!
Awesome start, as always. I love your imagination. I can't see your pix right now, but I shall return.
Awww, thanks! Love those mountains, and how exciting! :cool1:
That is the resort that was closed down due for years due to a hurricane right? I remember passing it on the boat from POR to DTD?
I didn't realize it for awhile either! They are the ones you see through the trees on the way to DTD, they built brand new treetop houses and I think they reopened in 2009.
Great start. I am glad you enjoy you road trips. I haven't been able to convince myself that it if fun to ride in cars for that long, but I am still trying. We also drive to WDW. Our trip is about 13 hours. How long is yours?
I do get tired of it sometimes, but I also enjoy it. Our trip is 17 hours, but we've always broken it up into 2 days and we often do some fun stops, so it isn't so bad.
So happy Mia is along this trip. My dd is getting her first AG doll for her birthday this year. She doesn't really play with dolls but she wants an AG one and her grandparents send her money every year for her birthday so we are going to take her to the the AG store so she can pick out her very own AG doll. Awww, so exciting for your DD! It'll be especially fun to pick it out in person, those stores are so much fun! :thumbsup2
Thanks, lol! Kara, that's MarietheCat, right? I still have to catch up on her trippie, didn't realize she was going back...that's so funny, we went around the same time last year too! :rotfl:
We woke up early after a nice night’s rest at the Hyatt. There was a continental breakfast – toast and yogurt and things and very bitter coffee.
I don’t like the taste of coffee too much, but the few times I’ve had coffee were when I was travelling in Europe, so I drink it just b/c it reminds me of some of my favorite places!
ANYway, we were on the road by nine. I passed the drive with the usual diversions – reading a book, writing in my diary, listening to the iPod. The brothers played gameboy until their brains started to ooze out their ears. lol.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/491.jpg
A motorcycle gang was following us for awhile.
We entered South Carolina soon and saw our first palm trees…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/495.jpg
…and there was great rejoicing.
We made a pit stop to visit the jailed-up vending machines.
And these sausage and crackers do look pretty nefarious. I mean, what vending machine sells sausages and crackers anyway??
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/203.jpg
Walking back to the car I took a picture and a moment to admire my very colorful three bags. lol!
Then pretty soon we were getting into a Georgia state of mind...
Piggly Wiggly, man! We know we’re in the south now!
The almost-in-Florida part of the drive is always fun. A song came on the radio as we were sailing along the highway that I thought perfectly expressed my mood – Knee Deep by the Zac Brown band. Since our destination for the day was the beach, it just was perfect…soon we would be knee deep in the water at Ormond Beach, with a blue-sky breeze and not a single care! I love the line in that song “bought a boat and I sailed off in it.” Yes. That is what I would like to do. Just buy a boat and sail off into warm summer breezes! But for the meantime, I was quite happy enough to be seeing this sign…
“Visit Florida” – why what a good idea, I think I will!
It’s become a sort-of tradition over the past years to have just a day or afternoon at the beach on the drive down. We’ve done Vero and Daytona, both very nice. We had picked Ormond Beach as it’s right down the way from Daytona, only a little quieter.
Dart was racing in and out of the waves! He and Athos were the only ones who got into their swim suits, and soon Dart got bored. We didn’t have any beach toys along, so we invented a game with my flip flops. We would throw them out into the waves and then run after them as the tide carried them into shore. Dart LOVED it, we were running up and down again and again.
Today was the day of Disney arrival!! We dragged those lazy brothers out of bed at 7 and down to the breakfast area. I had a bagel with cream cheese, the pickin’s were pretty sparse – but what did that matter, soon we’d be feasting on DISNEY food!
Soon we had packed up and checked out and were drivin’ along in Florida. I dozed and read some of my book, it was only an hour until we got to Orlando!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/541-1.jpg
We’re almost there!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/544.jpg
I SEE THE GATES!!! Woot woot!!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/561.jpg
Soon we were seeing more Disney sights…Disney buses and monorail tracks…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/567.jpg
…and those signature red and purple Disney signs too!
Our first stop was actually not the Treehouses – we passed through Disney property and went over to Aramis’ new apartment to check it out, leave some things with him, pick him up, and make a quick Publix run. *Then* we were off to check in at Saratoga!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/571.jpg
The guard even said “Welcome Home!” Yay!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/592.jpg
I always feel tempted to go all Samantha Brown when writing about check-in and give a description of the lobby. So if I were Samantha Brown describing the Carriage House, I would point out the pink peachy walls, the rich colors on the carpet – it’s a rather grand space, but with the framed pictures on the wall and the simple chandelier and lanterns, it still feels like home, like a really really nice living room.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/594.jpg
There was a dapper-looking cast member in a top hat and tails standing by the door. Dart asked for a sticker and he gave him about a hundred!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/574.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/606.jpg
Turns out he was doing this for everybody, what a fun pinch of pixie dust!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/584.jpg
Saratoga does have a rather unique lobby compared to the other deluxes when you think about it. The AKL, the Polynesian, the Grand – they’re all one space, whereas the Carriage House has the check-in in one room and all the seating down the hallway. It’s kinda interesting to see them mix it up.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/585.jpg
Here are the aforementioned rich rug colors – and a hidden mickey!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/607.jpg
There’s a new picture on the check-in packet! Mom got kinda a dud CM checking her in. He was like, “You don’t want a packet do you?” Ummm…yes, we do! Sometimes when you have the CM discount they treat you a bit like a second citizen.
Also annoyingly, our room wasn’t ready – we had only been able to get one night at the Treetop Villas, so we were planning on just hanging out there all day – but if it wasn’t ready we couldn’t, argh! The stupid CM was mean about that too, saying how the smart guests had come early and gotten the rooms that were available. Way to rub it in buddy. Really we shouldn’t have made that Publix run, but oh well.
We had to get lunch sometime, so we gave the cold groceries to the bellmen to put in a fridge, then headed over to Artist's Palette.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/596.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/618.jpg
I do like the shop they have here, only it makes traffic a bit jammed sometimes.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/610.jpg
Having a quick look at some of the new merchandise – they had a bunch of this “geeky” Mickey and friends stuff, cute!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/599.jpg
I love that they still have these same charm selections they’ve had for years. When I was 12 or 13 and I was first allowed to wander down to the gift shop by myself, I would scour the charms and plan out bracelets – most of which I didn’t buy, but it was a fun thing to dream about!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/612.jpg
We picked up a few new mugs!! I love that there’s one with a big loud bright pink handle!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/613.jpg
Now for the hard part: decisions! The sandwiches all looked lovely, but then so did the flatbreads.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/614.jpg
This was the Smith Stack: salami, ham, turket, provolone, red onions, tomatoes, mixed greens tossed in balsamic dressing, and finished with an olive tapenade.
And no, I didn’t remember all that from the top of my head, I had a pic of its description!
The sammies looked tempting, but ultimately I went with the roasted vegetable flatbread.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/616.jpg
I love the “scrumptious” words above these cases!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/619.jpg
Of course we had to have a little dessert to go with lunch! The brownies were delish.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/622.jpg
My flatbread! The crust was a little chewy around the edges, but overall very nice. I shared a few slices and in return tried Dad’s roast beef and Mom’s turkey wrap, which had avocado ranch on it, which made it the most delicious of all!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/621.jpg
The yummy wrap! Everything came with chips – we had more than we knew what to do with!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/623.jpg
Dart’s first of many mac-n-cheeses this trip.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/624.jpg
Of course we had to stop to wield a crayon across the easel after lunch.
And just as we were finishing up – we got the phone call that our room, excuse me, our treehouse, was ready!
That CM wasn't acting in a very Disney mood :sad2: But at least the CM at the door was handing out some pixie dust to make up for it :thumbsup2 Saratoga Springs looks nice so far and the food there too, especially those turkey wraps. Your pictures are excellent.
You brought back memories with the picture of the charms. I remember my DD having one of the charm bracelets and taking her time examining all the charms and then making her decision. Which then was a very big decision to make since we couldn't buy her one of every one.
Looking forward to the next update:)
There was a dapper-looking cast member in a top hat and tails standing by the door. Dart asked for a sticker and he gave him about a hundred!
Haha, before I began reading I was scrolling through the pictures quickly and thought to myself how dapper that CM looked in his top hat and coat tails.
So when I finally got to reading what you wrote under the picture I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Maybe it's some kind of Disney subliminal messaging when people start thinking the same things about their CMs. :laughing:
Yay for arrival day! Cannot wait to see the Treehouses.
Yay! And it was fun to bring Mia along again, I'm glad you guys are happy to see here too! :goodvibes
I just love that you bring Mia because I love bringing my Angel with me and people at home think it's strange. (If you haven't already seen my Angel check out my trip report or ptr linked in the sig :) ) I love seeing someone else bringing trip mascots with them as well :)
Finally, you've arrived! (: The best part of most trips, finally getting to the most magical place on Earth. Sorry you didn't get to go into your villa when you got there. That CM wasn't acting in a very Disney mood :sad2: But at least the CM at the door was handing out some pixie dust to make up for it Saratoga Springs looks nice so far and the food there too, especially those turkey wraps. And I love the appetizing words on the fridges! Can't wait to read about (and see) your Treehouse Villa! :mickeyjum
Hooray! We love Saratoga too, haven't stayed there in awhile but it's so pretty. :goodvibes Can't wait to share the treehouse pics!
Oh my, Emma!! I can't believe I missed the beginning of this TR. I am all caught up now (my lunch hour just became a little bit over an hour - lol). I love the WV sign, of course, and love that you left a hidden Mickey.
I can't wait to go to AK and ride the safari ride. I want to see if Alyosha is in the back of the truck with the rescued Lil' Red.
Your pictures are excellent.
You brought back memories with the picture of the charms. I remember my DD having one of the charm bracelets and taking her time examining all the charms and then making her decision. Which then was a very big decision to make since we couldn't buy her one of every one.
Looking forward to the next update
Amy
Welcome!! Haha, I bet Alyosha will be there. ;) Awww, love the story of your DD, I was just the same. :goodvibes
I love Arrival Day! First coming through the gates and seeing the signature signage. So fun. And so great that your Treehouse was ready relatively soon after arriving. Yummy lunch and then time to check out the digs
If Disney could bottle up that feeling of arriving and driving through the gates, they'd be making even more money than they already are, lol. And we did have rather good arrival day luck!
Great updates - so glad you are at Disney! Looking forward to hearing more.
Thanks! More is on its way! :thumbsup2
OK, everyone is taunting me with SSR updates. haha I love it there (it is our home resort!).
Wow, those brownies do look amazing! How did I miss those when we were there?!
Haha, I think the universe is trying to tell you something! ("goooo to Saratoga...") <--- that was the universe talking. ;) The brownies were delish!
I'm in! Now I'm going back to read!
Welcome!! :cool1:
SSR looks beautiful from what you have posted! :love: And your lunch looks very yummy, it is making me hungry! I can't wait to see the pics of the treehouse villa! Don't make us wait too long, please! ;)
It's such a lovely place, I hope we stay there again soon. lol, writing that update made me hungry! Pics are uploaded, I'll have an update today! :thumbsup2
Yay for checking in!! That CM sounds down right un-Disneylike, :confused:. The time we stayed at THV our villa wasn't ready until after 5pm that was tough. Glad your villa was ready quick. Can't wait to read you description and see photos!
He was not so nice, but I guess you get some great CM's and a few grumpypants on every trip. :confused3 I have loads of photos coming up!
:littleangel:
WOO HOO!!! That is so exciting! :cool1::cool1: The Treehouses is definitely a new favorite for us, I'm sure you'll love it! Tons of photos and reviews coming up.
Oooohhhh...I am getting so excited to see more of your photos of SSR and the Treehouses. Those photos of Artist's Palette look great.
I can't wait to take my 1st visit there!:goodvibes
Thanks! The treehouses are so big and luxurious and rustic, you'll love it!
It was Dad's turn after a bit, and I got to sit up front because Dart wanted Mom to watch the Saturdays with him. Soon it got dark and everybody was sleeping. I watched the J&R billboards go by and dozed a little. I was awake when we passed by Yadkinville though (my mom loves that name!).
That's so funny because I live in the city next to Burlington(where JR is)! Those billboards are ridiculous :rotfl:
Map in hand, we piled back into the car and drove from Saratoga into the treetops! Our treehouse was near the entrance to the Treehouses, but kinda a hike from the pool and the walkway to Saratoga Springs.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/638.jpg
We’re here!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/640.jpg
Spotting the first treehouse!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/642.jpg
Our treehouse had this looooong boardwalk walkway leading up to our door, and to the door of the next treehouse -- I think that treehouse and ours could be handicapped villas, hence the ramp.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/645.jpg
There it is!!
Are you ready for absolutely excessive number of photos of everything treehouse? Alright, here we go!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon140.jpg
This was what greeted you directly when you stepped in! Everything was dark wood and looked cosy, with lots of forest- and wilderness-themed touches.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon017.jpg
I really liked the bar stolls and high counter, very handy and elegant too with the dark marble.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon007.jpg
Looking into the kitchen...it was awfully nice!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon020.jpg
Kitchen cupboards...the warm russet red and goldenrod yellow plates and bowls were very autumnal and rustic...perfect for a treehouse!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon021.jpg
Cups and mugs...
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon022.jpg
I like the way the maid folded the paper towls!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon023.jpg
Coffee maker, nice big sink, cool faucet -- all the fixtures and everything was so nice, it made me wish this was our house, not our hotel!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon009.jpg
Looking over the counter to the dining room area, which was so cool. I loved how the table and chairs managed to be woodsy but kinda modern all at once, especially the chairs with their funky curve! I loved that big giant window too, it was so pretty to look out at breakfast the next morning, at the trees, with other villas nestled in the woods.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon015.jpg
Kitchen and entryway floor. I think it was carpeted in the bedrooms and living room area.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon111.jpg
Back behind the kitchen, to the right, was a little hallway with the bathroom, two smaller bedrooms, and the washer and dryer. The nearest door on the right was the bedroom with bunk beds…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon002.jpg
Dart and Athos shared the bunks. Dart LOVED that his room had a flatscreen tv in it – all the bedrooms had one, and the living room area had another, so there were 4 total!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon001.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon110.jpg
Here’s the closet with the washer and dryer. They were handy, we used them a lot, but they were also VERY loud. I had the bedroom right across, and everytime the dryer rang I felt like it was an emergency alarm, like "RED ALERT!! YOUR LAUNDRY IS DONE!! GET IT!! QUICK!!!" lol, at least it didn't ring for long, just very startlingly loud!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/654.jpg
The not-the-master bathroom, right next to the washer/dryer.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon034.jpg
The bathroom faucets here were possibly the coolest faucets. I've. Ever. seen. The water would run down that short trough -- it felt like you might be mining for gold everytime you washed your hands!
Actually, mining for gold doesn't sound very relaxing, and it was a spa-worthy sink. I guess it was just the way it ran out down the channel and then poured out, rather than sprayed everywhere, that really impressed me!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon116.jpg
There was also a SUPER wonderful showerhead. The water would come out like gentle rain, it was brilliant.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/653.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon117.jpg
Next to the bathroom and across from the washer/dryer was my bedroom!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon003.jpg
I loved sitting on the bed and looking out the windows – every so often you would see a boat heading to Downtown Disney pass by! I’m so glad we got a treehouse near the water – we couldn’t get to the water, but it was really fun to see the boats going by.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon012.jpg
Athos started mocking this wall art as soon as he saw it, lol.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon005.jpg
A hidden mickey on the window!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon118.jpg
Looking back down the hallway towards the main part of the treehouse! Lol, so having toured this wing of the treehouse, let’s go back through the kitchen to the living room…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon133.jpg
There was a tv across from the couch, set into an angled off part of the counter, and a cool carved-log looking coffee table.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon138.jpg
Pic looking back towards the door, you can see the tv in this one. That sofa folded out into a bed, as did this chair…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon128.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon124.jpg
Porthos demonstrating the folding-out chair bed.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/655.jpg
Wall art in the living room. With all the décor and the space it absolutely felt like a little house rather than a hotel room. Dart even said at one point, “I like this house!”
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon018.jpg
More living room details…the three logs making up that table make me think it might be a hidden mickey…maybe?
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon019.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon006.jpg
A light fixture from somewhere in the treehouse, I can’t remember which room!
Crossing through the living room you came to the masterbedroom…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon025.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon024.jpg
There was a sweet little desk too.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon032.jpg
Most of the design choices in the treehouse were really unique and cool – one of the few ordinary details was the curtains. I feel like they could’ve picked something with more character.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon026.jpg
Looking back towards the door to the living room.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon106.jpg
The master bath…sorry for the mess, I took it in the morning before we left…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon108.jpg
The frosted window was really pretty.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon109.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon141.jpg
Our little deck area with patio table right outside our door – you can see beyond it to the other treehouse and their deck area. Unfortunately there was a large party of boozers staying opposite, and whenever I came out, it seemed like they were always there, drinking and laughing and talking really loudly. But at least the inside was so nice I didn’t mind not using the patio!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon142.jpg
Walkway leading back to the road and the parking spaces. There were only two parking spots for each cabin, and unfortunately ours got taken later in the evening, so we had to park a little further away.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon045.jpg
There was a little barbeque for each villa too…when we went on a walk later we saw people using them!
lol, so having finished photographing every last thing in the villa, Athos, Dart, Mom, and I headed out for some pool time!
Yes, I've actually been 3 or 4 times in the 13 years we've lived here. :rotfl:
It's just a huge store with so much random stuff! They have a walk in humidor full of cigars on one side, and then you can walk across the store and pick out bath towels. You can also browse the make up display full of old drugstore cosmetics. :lmao: They do have a lot of discounted books though..That's the only thing I've found that isn't complete junk in there. If you need to get out and stretch and get a laugh at some redneck stuff then you should stop.
:love: Oh my gosh, I love the treehouse pictures!! I definitely want to stay there! Did you drive to the parks or use the bus system? Was it a pain?
Glad you enjoyed your stay at the treehouse villas, they are part of the Disney Vacation Club. The villa that you guys stayed in was one that accommodated guests they may have disabilities. The master bathroom in the non-disability villas have an enclosed shower door and the shower is directly next to the tub...really a unique design.
I love the master bedroom. It is perfect. I may never leave and go to the parks. I may have to stay there all day!!!! I love the granite and the faucets are very cool. Sheree - So funny that you have the same faucet!
The living room looks huge and I like how all the rooms are so well separated. Bummer about the partying neighbors. Hey - that might be me next summer. :rotfl: Funny thing is - I am not exactly sure whose in my party. If its my brother and his family there will end up being 9 of us. If not - I will let Nick take a friend.
I am anxious to see the pool. If you where to stay there again is there a specific location you would request? Thanks for posting the map.
I had just re-done it with Blue and white walls, and a wallpaper border and accessories with red & white striped lighthouses.....like the one at Old Key West! I get all my decorating ideas from Disney!:thumbsup2
LOL! I did just check. It was Price Pfister. And I think we paid around $150 at Lowes.
I was so excited to see we have a Disney faucet!
Sheree, that is SOOOO COOL you have that awesome faucet!!! :worship::worship: It is now officially going on my list of things I want in my house someday! :thumbsup2 And how fun it would be to walk into Lowes and randomly recognize it! Watch as Lowes stores across the country run out of it now that people know they can get a Disney faucet in real life! :rotfl:
p.s. Tanya, your OKW-inspired bathroom sounds beautiful!
Love the pictures you took....it's beautiful!! I love the concept of them and I also now realize I love the way they're decorated:thumbsup2
Thanks! It was so gorgeous...I think it's now my third favorite resort, right behind the Polynesian and the AKL!
Wow, the Treehouse Villas look really nice!
They were wonderful!
The Treehouse Villas look gorgeous! I definitely want to stay there now. (: I'm a sucker for the wilderness-themed rooms (i.e AKL, etc.), so totally for me. I love the faucet for the bathroom, very cool, and basically the whole style of the bathroom, also very cool :thumbsup2 Can't wait to read about the other parts of the resort! :mickeyjum
The wilderness touches made the treehouses feel so cozy! The bathrooms were great too, more pics coming up!
Very cool!! I am glad u took so many pics..the websites never give you enough! yep...the curtains are boring, the living room table did make me think of Mickey, and the little toilet paper and towel holders in the first bathroom reminded me of a little butler with a towel on his arm/hand!! LOL
So glad you liked the pics! haha, great minds think alike, and I didn't even think of that but you are so right -- the towel holders looked exactly like a little butler, talk about service! :rotfl:
Wow. Absolutely GORGEOUS. Thanks for sharing all those great pictures.
It was a fabulous villa. So glad you enjoyed the pics, more coming up!
I love all the pictures of the treehouse villa. They look so big and roomy. I really like that faucet too.
There was so much room, it really did feel like a house! :goodvibes
Yes, I've actually been 3 or 4 times in the 13 years we've lived here. :rotfl:
It's just a huge store with so much random stuff! They have a walk in humidor full of cigars on one side, and then you can walk across the store and pick out bath towels. You can also browse the make up display full of old drugstore cosmetics. :lmao: They do have a lot of discounted books though..That's the only thing I've found that isn't complete junk in there. If you need to get out and stretch and get a laugh at some redneck stuff then you should stop.
:love: Oh my gosh, I love the treehouse pictures!! I definitely want to stay there! Did you drive to the parks or use the bus system? Was it a pain?
LOL, that's funny, and sounds super random! :rotfl: Now if we ever do stop at least I know what to expect! We drove everywhere -- the buses came every 20 minutes or so, and they only went to Saratoga, so I imagine you'd probably want a car. And if you walked to Saratoga to get a park bus, (at least from our treehouse) it was a good 20 minute walk. It was so beautiful, though, we enjoyed just hanging out in the villa and walking around!
Wow, the Treetop Villas looks just as amazing inside as they do outside! I would have loved spending time there, out on the deck, and just relaxing. Love all the pics, thanks for sharing! Definitely makes me want to try it out one day. The food at Artist's Palette looks pretty good, too.
They are gorgeous, we definitely want to go back. Artist's Palette is definitely a yummy spot for lunch! :thumbsup2
Glad you enjoyed your stay at the treehouse villas, they are part of the Disney Vacation Club. The villa that you guys stayed in was one that accommodated guests they may have disabilities. The master bathroom in the non-disability villas have an enclosed shower door and the shower is directly next to the tub...really a unique design.
I loved your photos, we are staying there next month...I have always wanted to stay in those treehouses even before they rebuilt them...oh I am dating myself:rotfl2:
Cool, I didn't realize the bathrooms would be different. So exciting that you'll be there in a month!! :cool1:
Beautiful pictures and I am so glad you took a picture of "every little thing Treehouse Villa"!! :goodvibes I have always loved seeing them from the outside and now seeing the inside I really want to stay there! I may never even have to go to a park!! :laughing:
Haha, so glad you enjoyed all the pics! And I could definitely see staying at the treehouse and not going to the parks, we didn't want to leave at the end!
The villa's look amazing! And so much space!!
So much fun, and great for our big group -- normally we're a bit squished!
I'm in! I love seeing all the pictures of the treehouse. Now I feel like I've already stayed there. ;)
Welcome! lol, so happy to take you along to the Treehouses! :thumbsup2
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for the treehouse photos. I am so super psyched to see where I will be staying next summer.
I love the master bedroom. It is perfect. I may never leave and go to the parks. I may have to stay there all day!!!! I love the granite and the faucets are very cool. Sheree - So funny that you have the same faucet!
The living room looks huge and I like how all the rooms are so well separated. Bummer about the partying neighbors. Hey - that might be me next summer. :rotfl: Funny thing is - I am not exactly sure whose in my party. If its my brother and his family there will end up being 9 of us. If not - I will let Nick take a friend.
I am anxious to see the pool. If you where to stay there again is there a specific location you would request? Thanks for posting the map.
So glad you liked the pics!! We really loved it there. lol, I wouldn't have minded the neighbors if our decks weren't connected and so close to each other, I felt like I was crashing their party! :rotfl: Hmmm...I guess we might request a little closer to the Saratoga walkway and the Treehouse pool, especially for a longer stay. I would request one along the river again though, I loved seeing the boats from my window!
Looks wonderful! I love the bathroom and the view from your room. It seems so different that most WDW properties...so hidden and remote! Great update!
The views were really fun, you were totally surrounded by treetops! :goodvibes
As usual, we took forever getting ready to go out to the pool. Athos and I decided to go out for a brief exploring expedition while we waited.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon038.jpg
Of course Mia came along! She was dressed in a jungle-ish sort of outfit, so she decided she was a jungle girl for the day.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon041.jpg
Looking out towards the river.
We went wandering along the road (which was very quiet for the most part…a good thing as there are no sidewalks, it’s kinda like Fort Wilderness).
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon065.jpg
Athos of course stopped to look for bugs and critters every two seconds.
He was rummaging back in the brush and he suddenly shouts, “Emma! Get back! There’s a SNAKE!”
I was standing on the other side of the road, 12 feet away, and he yells at me to get back when he, who is standing two feet from it, doesn’t move an inch. Oh brother!
Luckily the snake left him alone, and I convinced Athos to leave the snake alone too. He found lots of lizards…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon069.jpg
Can you spot the little guy?
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon061.jpg
Passing by some more treehouses.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon054.jpg
You never know what you might find in a wetland! Like American Girl dolls, and cocacola machines…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon053.jpg
This was actually at the bus stop. There was magical music playing at the treehouse bus stops. seriously.
“These trees are so huge!”
We turned back to our own treehouse and were ready to walk to the pool!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/302.jpg
Lots o trees…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/305.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/306.jpg
There it is! It was a fairly small pool, and it was SO HOT. The pools were all heated and not very pleasant to swim in on our July 2010 trip, and this one was just as bad as they’d been the previous. But luckily, it was the only really bad heated pool we’d find…the rest were so much cooler and so much nicer than last year!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/307.jpg
I did like the cute little frogs in the corner.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/308.jpg
We stayed for only about 5 minutes, then decided to walk over to the Saratoga pools. There was a suggested walking route and a secret route going over a bridge that Mom noticed on the map…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/309.jpg
The “secret” bridge. It joined up with the walkway from OKW to Saratoga on the other side.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/313.jpg
We tried to get the boat to honk, but the driver didn’t see us.
Water mice!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/316.jpg
In case you’ve never walked from OKW to Saratoga, this is what it looks like.
Looking across the river.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/322.jpg
Here’s proof that birds actually live in the little birdhouses, they’re not just for show! See the little head poking out the opening on the bottom row?
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/327.jpg
Athos is so weird. lol. We wound around the golf course and came up and through the health club courtyard to the pool…
So after finishing our swim in the pool, we got out and began looking for the actually “recommended” walkway back to the treehouses. Turns out you had to go out through the portcochere…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/344.jpg
This garden area is on the far side of the portcochere, and we figured you could cut through it, but it turns out it was a hedged in circle, how weird is that? We found a different way to get around the hedges, and walked between the Saratoga buildings out beyond the lobby.
Mom had heard word of a new Saratoga pool, and according to the map there was a pool we hadn’t seen before on the walk to the treehouses. Soon I saw this in the distance..
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/347.jpg
I bet that’s the new pool! And it was!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/348.jpg
I love how bright it was in pristine red and white!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/350.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/352.jpg
Cool pool gate…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/353.jpg
I loved the hidden mickey hidden in the clouds too!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/354.jpg
The pool itself was shaped like the race track, very neat. Then we caught sight of a water play area…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/356.jpg
…Dart kicked off his crocs, and he was gone! lol!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/362.jpg
The gate theming was so cool. Athos, Dart, and I were all running around as if we were horses, like Monty Python riders!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/369.jpg
One of the spitting horses water guns…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/367.jpg
Lots of water sprayers, it was really fun!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8425.jpg
But it got you really wet!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/360.jpg
Looking back towards the pool…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/361.jpg
Even the swirly corner architectural things were shaped like horses! (I was going to call them cornices, but I don’t think that’s what they are, so we’ll stick with swirly corner things, lol!)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/386.jpg
Another pic of the pool.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8312.jpg
JUMP!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/365.jpg
The tiles on the inside edge of the pool were really fun!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/372.jpg
When the sun started to set everything looked even prettier!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/376.jpg
Horseshoe-shaped flower beds!
Dart, Athos, and I played for quite awhile – then the rest of the family arrived, Dad had been helping Aramis with car trouble and Porthos didn’t feel much like swimming so he ran to DTD and got us earl-of sandwiches for dinner (it doesn’t matter if you get a turkey or a roast beef or whatever flavor of sandwich there, it’s still an earl-of sandwich to my mind!).
Anyway, they were finished with their chores, and we all had a massive water fight – Mom took pictures and Porthos mostly stayed just out of the shooting range of the spitting horses, but it was still really fun.
The sun was setting, so we dried off and then walked towards the treehouses…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/398.jpg
This way!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/397.jpg
We passed this tree that had the prettiest, princess-sortof delicate berries.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/395.jpg
I always wish I knew more which plant was which at Disney.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/400.jpg
We passed the path to the treehouse dock on our way back, so I ran down to take a pic of it for trip-report-completeness.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/402.jpg
While you’re waiting for your boat you can learn about splendid butterflies!
Back at home I took my shower and munched on my original earl-of sandwich. When Mom had been telling Porthos the order, she was mentally going through the check-out line in her head and remembered that they have some amazing brownies, so luckily we got some of those! There were even brownie sandwiches with peanut butter or vanilla icing in the middle – delish!
We also had one other dessert…we used the kitchen to make some cupcakes! Mom had found some fun graduation cupcake holders and we hadn’t had a chance to use them yet, so we brought them along!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/406.jpg
Very cute, and fun to use our lovely treehouse kitchen!
I curled up on the sofa with Athos and Dart and we watched Phineas and Ferb…there was a marathon on. The perfect way to end the evening!
Wow! What an awesome looking resort, though I have to say, I think the water play area and pool looks much more fun than the Treehouse pool!
It looks like the kind of place you'd want to stay if you were spending a lot of time relaxing at the resort.
Thanks for sharing all the pics, and it looks like Mia had quite the adventure - love the jungle outfit :cutie:
Thanks so much for all of the Tree house photos !! I can't wait to stay there one day !!
Right after my post to you, the Persuasion movie that we were talking about came on TV. I just love that movie !! It is nice to have a fellow Jane Austin fan !! Did you know that it was published posthumously ?? It was so sad the way she died. With modern medicine she would have been saved I believe.
Have you read any of her other works ?? I have yet to read Northanger Abbey and I have never read Mansfield Park. Anyway, and I can see how you relate to her since she had six brothers and she and her sister the only girls.
Can't wait to see more of your TR !!
You have such a nice area around you at the Treehouses. The lake looks so quaint, though I think that whole snake situation may have ruined it for me... I hate snakes. :sad2: Thank goodness the snake didn't really come near the two of you.
All the pools around the resort look so pretty! I love the horse-racing theme they have. I've been to Saratoga and seen a bit of the race track and I'm pretty sure it was all white and red. :thumbsup2 I also get another reminder to go to Earl of Sandwich *makes note* And a little sidenote, those little berries on the trees look so pretty, very photogenic.
Great updates, Emma:)
I love the descriptions and comments.
Instead of a neat-looking faucet - it's a faucet that makes you think of mining for gold:rotfl2:
And especially finding AG dolls and a coca-cola machine in the wetlands. I noticed they weren't listed on the board.:rotfl2:
Also, Mama snob is so with-it on these trips.
I need to try to be like her:worship:
I remember from one of your TR's where she had the container to put extra mickey mousse domes from Chef Mickey's to take back to the room - yummy -they are my favorite.
Then knowing about the ice cave at T-Rex. I showed that to my DS and he said he would like the ice cave if he couldn't sit right under the big dinosaur that is right next to the ice cave in your picture.
Then she knew to be on the look out for a new pool at SSR.
She is very impressive in being in the know with all things Disney.
The treetop villas look neat.
They remind me of cabins in Gatlinburg - they were octogon in shape and were all scattered up this hillside.
Can't wait to read more:)
Especially with the new racing pool, Saratoga is a great place for some water time! It was really fun that we could walk right over from the treehouses.
lol, that is true -- the treehouses are not that great pool-wise, but I guess that's why they're within walking distance of Saratoga! I bet you could walk over to OKW too if you crossed the secret bridge. Definitely it's a great place for relaxing in the room!
I love the lush, green surroundings of the Treehouse Villas. As for SSR - I've never given it much thought, but it looks really nice. Wonderful update. Hope you and your family are having a blast.
The Treehouse flora was really lovely -- I love it when Disney can just transport you with the foliage like that!
OK - So I am requesting a villa near the walkway because I love that pool all decked out in red and white. It looks perfect. Love the way you made all the pool rounds. What a fun way to spend the afternoon. I can't wait!!!! Great pics! Especially the fountains in the sunset pic!
lol, that pool was actually not that far from the treehouses...it was closer than the lobby! It is really fun that you have Saratoga's pools to use but then you get to go home to your own treetop villa!
Wow the treehouses look like so much fun! I love that racetrack pool, the theme at Saratoga Springs seems really cute. :goodvibes
The racetrack pool is even better themed than the main pool, I think! The horses are a really fun theme at Saratoga.
Thanks so much for all of the Tree house photos !! I can't wait to stay there one day !!
No problem, so glad you're enjoying them! It is so sad that Jane died so young...she was only in her early 40's, think of how many more novels she might have written! Have you read the two unfinished ones, the Watsons and Sanditon? I have read those, and the six novels as well as some juvenalia and some of her letters. I always feel bad reading her letters though, it feels like I'm snooping, lol! I love Mansfield Park, I would definitely recommend it, and the hero from Northanger, Mr. Tilney, is actually my very favorite Austen hero (even above Darcy!:eek: lol!)!!
You have such a nice area around you at the Treehouses. The lake looks so quaint, though I think that whole snake situation may have ruined it for me... I hate snakes. :sad2: Thank goodness the snake didn't really come near the two of you.
lol...oh no, didn't mean to ruin it for you with the snake! Athos had to dive pretty deep off the path into the foliage to find it, so I wouldn't worry about it -- I'm sure Disney keeps critters like that under control!
You DEFINITELY need to get to Earl of Sandwich. I love that place so much. I wish we had one closer to us! Haha, we do love Phineas and Ferb -- the jokes and stuff aren't just for kids, it does seem like everyone enjoys it! We love singing the songs too.
Great update! Love the photos, as usual. Treehouses are amazing.
Also, Mama snob is so with-it on these trips.
I need to try to be like her:worship:
I remember from one of your TR's where she had the container to put extra mickey mousse domes from Chef Mickey's to take back to the room - yummy -they are my favorite.
Then knowing about the ice cave at T-Rex. I showed that to my DS and he said he would like the ice cave if he couldn't sit right under the big dinosaur that is right next to the ice cave in your picture.
Then she knew to be on the look out for a new pool at SSR.
She is very impressive in being in the know with all things Disney.
The treetop villas looks neat.
They remind me of cabins in Gatlinburg - they were octogon in shape and were all scattered up this hillside.
Can't wait to read more:)
Amy
Awww, thanks! And lol -- I will definitely pass the compliment along to Mama Snob. She is so on her game, she combs the DIS etc. a lot, she seems to know about the new things before I do! The octagonal shape is really unique, isn't it -- I wonder if the ones in Gatlinburg are made by the same company. Apparently they built the Disney treehouses in PA, and had to truck them out in pieces to Florida -- that would've been quite a sight on the highway!
The treehouse looks amazing - looks like you all had a fun day! :)
It was really fun. More coming up!
Quick note -- There is a AAA discount available there, but I don't remember the amount.
Hopefully it will still be in place when they open the one in Times Square later this year.:thumbsup2
There is, it's 10% -- we've used that a bunch, although sometimes it's hard to remember to bring along the AAA card!
Ooohhh, I didn't know they were opening one in Times Square, that'll be cool! :cool1:
Fell a little behind due to the craziness of summer but am all caught up now. :thumbsup2
Loved all the Treehouse pics! I think we were in the villa across from yours when we were there in June 09. Ours was a HA villa as MIL was with us and she was handicapped. The master in our villa had no tub, just a walk/roll in shower and grab bars by the toilet. I loved the villa itself but have to say we had a terrible time with the bugs which turned off DH. Hope to give it a try again sometime if we can get in at the 7mos mark.
That pool you found on the way back to THV was the Grandstand pool area. The times we've stayed at SSR we were in the Grandstand section right by that pool and it is amazing. My kids actually preferred it over the "big pool". ;) I was fine with that as it was closer and less crowded. They had a blast with the sprayers.
There is a brand new pool area in the Paddock section with a slide and QS food. I think it's like a secondary feature pool since SSR is such a big resort. I've seen pics and it looks fun too.
Love, love, love Earl of Sandwich. It's my favorite place in WDW I think. We ate there 3x on our last trip. So wish there was one somewhere near Chicago so I could get my fix between trips.
When we were in the Treehouses we were one of the two closest to the walking path. That pitiful little pool in the Treehouse area felt like our private pool! My husband would walk over there every night and sit in the hot tub and was usually the only person there. I went over with him a couple times and only saw other people there once. We were there August that year, so it wasn't like it wasn't hot enough out to enjoy a swim.
I don't remember if the boys went there much or not - they may have gone up to one of the other ones.
haha, tell me about it -- summertime is supposed to be lazy, but this one has been surprisingly busy! Wow -- there's another new pool at Saratoga?? The Grandstand pool felt brand new, we'll have to check out the one by the Paddock next time, Dart is a fiend for slides! YUM yum, EoS is my fav!
Wake up sleepyheads, it’s time for another Disney day!!
I was up around 8, and went out to the porch to paint my nails white – it had been so busy packing and leaving I hadn’t had time to do it earlier. And you know how this girl loves her white Disney nails!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon097.jpg
The morning sun was glinting over our treehouse…
I came in and found people up and about. Mom ran over to Saratoga to get some breakfast potatoes – otherwise we had some eggs to scramble and bread to toast to make breakfast for ourselves.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon101.jpg
I have to say, it was rather a nice spread! Cooking on vacation always feels like playing house – I wish it felt more like that IRL and less like a chore.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon131.jpg
The view out the window was so pretty too!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon105.jpg
I iced a leftover cupcake (mickey style!) for an after-breakfast treat. Yum.
We got the dishes cleaned up, and hung out a bit. We weren’t in a hurry to get going, so it was nice to have a little more time in our treehouse. I took a few more pics…
Front-hall closet.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon129.jpg
There was a little light fixture for the bottom bunk in Athos and Dart’s room – so cute!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon087.jpg
Cinderella wasn’t the only mini princess who came along…
My pretty dress for the day! Found it at Target, it had such a nice swirly skirt.
Watching the boats go by…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon161.jpg
We soon started moving things out to the car to get out by check-out time.
Our next resort was…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon168.jpg
Riverside! This is our go-to moderate, since it’s the only one with five beds.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8549.jpg
The five kids heading in...lol, although most of us aren't really kids anymore!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon170.jpg
There’s a quiet, laid-back sort-of elegance to Riverside that I like.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon185.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon176.jpg
They were giving out lemonade in the lobby – I saw them doing this at other resorts too, a nice touch!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon177.jpg
Dart made a beeline for the tv area!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon181.jpg
I sat in one of these lovely bay windows while Mom got the check-in sorted. She got a chatty Cathy, which was an improvement on the apathetic fellow we had at Saratoga, only it made things take a bit longer, lol!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon183.jpg
Having a browse in the general store…I love all these new mickey kitchen supplies.
We were in the Alligator Bayou lodge 25. It wasn’t a great location, but the room was clean and cool and perfectly nice.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon187.jpg
I got only ONE picture, because faster than Rock n’ Roller can go from 0 to 60, there were people and bags and junk exploded all. over. the room. lol!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/407.jpg
Resorts with far away parking lots make you realize why it’s called LUGgage. Because you have to lug it everywhere! After a trip or two getting everything up to the room (makes you miss the days of having a stroller/pack mule!), we walked over to the Riverside Mill for lunch. We were on the dining plan (yay!) for our two nights at Riverside, so we had some quick service lunches to use up!
It was about a 10 minute walk to the lobby. Luckily it wasn’t *too* too hot – nothing like last July!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/422.jpg
Riverside Mill! This is actually a really nice food court. Lovely sandwiches, make-your-own pasta – Dad got a burger, it had onion straws on it and was reeeeaally good!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/428.jpg
Waiting for my pasta to be done…it was kinda cool to watch the cook fix it for you, flaming pans and all! I chose artichoke, chicken, spinach, and olives with fettuchini.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/431.jpg
The best part of the DP – everybody gets to pick out their very own dessert! I probably stood debating for at least five solid minutes – there were too many choices!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/430.jpg
Should I go with a warm apple tart??
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/433.jpg
Athos got the cheesecake…that does look pretty good! I ended up getting a giant beautiful chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing, it wasn’t a gourmet flavor, but it was super delish and just hit the spot.
I must’ve been hungry…I didn’t get any pics of the food! I do remember that I didn’t even end up finishing the pasta (it was a big portion!) or the cupcake, so I took it back to the room to stash in the fridge.
Our plan for the afternoon was more POOL HOPPING, this time around Port Orleans! (Riverside and French Quarter). Dart loves swimming so much -- more than any of the rest of us ever did. We older kids aren't that into the pools anymore, but Dart needs someone to play with, so Athos and I usually go along with him.
Our first stop was Ol Man Island, Riverside’s pool. As we’re pattering across the hot pool pavement (but not running of course!), looking for the entrance to the slide, Dart announces that the slide looks “breathtaking.”
Exact word he used. That kid is funny.
It was in fact a nice slide, open through all the twists and turns – the ones that go dark make me claustrophobic.
We swam around and Dart went down the slide about 17 times. It was pretty crowded, so eventually we got out and went over to check out the cool playground – it had a mini water wheel (like the Riverside mill!) and a really funky swing thing…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8592.jpg
I think you would have to have a lot of upper body strength to actually stay holding on and make it back around to land again. I tried, and it was pathetic. lol. Dart almost made it.
ANYway, having amused ourselves with impossible playground swings, we headed next over to the boat, and one was just pulling up, departing for Port Orleans!
I didn’t have my camera along, so there’s a sad derth of pics for this pool update. We did have fun at Doubloon Lagoon, I love that cool slide and all the funky alligators!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8641.jpg
A view of the pool from the boat. While we were swimming Mom and Porthos went into Sassagoula Floatworks (which is one of the few places on property where I feel like they could improve on the theming. It feels too warehouse-y, and the giant heads are just a little creepy.) But they braved the gaze of the crazy giant masks in order to get us…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8636.jpg
BEIGNEEETTTSSS….
They were hot. And powdered liberally with sugar. They were SUPER airy inside – like the inside was basically hollow. I wonder if they’ve changed the recipe or if they’ve always been like that? Still tasty though.
Our beignet snack was very quick, we had to book it to the boat and get back over to Riverside to change for Mass. Luckily the first 10 minutes of Mary Queen of the Universe Mass is a “welcome” speil – they know it’s vacation and people will be late!
After Mass our destination was:
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/437-1.jpg
The WILDERNESS LODGE. lol, I’m just realizing it was a very wilderness-y few days. First the treehouses, then even Riverside is very swampy, and now WL, for dinner at the Whispering Canyon Café!
The $30-a-person price had always deterred us, though we’ve heard good things about the skillet. We were excited to finally try it on the dining plan!
They do have pretty cool Western-inspired chandeliers.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/453-1.jpg
We were an hour early to check in for our 9:05 ADR – usually they don’t mind checking you in early, and there were plenty of open tables, but the CM was kinda snippy and wouldn’t let us. Oh well.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/454.jpg
At least now we had some time to check out the Mercantile.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/463.jpg
This is a cute frame, but I feel like with a trip to AC Moore I could make it myself.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/464-1.jpg
Now this I could not make myself. Dart reeeeally wanted to get a tram, but Mom wanted to get it as a surprise. So she cleverly sends Dart away while she and Aramis make the purchase. But Dart is very perspicacious and we couldn’t hide the bag, so we had to pretend we bought a bunch of other stuff. When he finally got the tram as a pillow present, he goes “I KNEW IT!” lol, there’s no fooling Dart!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/458-1.jpg
Cute luggage tags. I was tempted, but resisted.
We strolled down to the pool (Mom had brought just Dart’s swimsuit). They had *just* reopened after being closed b/c of lightening. So for three minutes or so Dart had the pool COMPLETELY to himself, and the slide, he really enjoyed it.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/481.jpg
It was a pretty evening, my pics came out really grainy though. I was using my old elph, and night photos are always hard on that.
At 8:50 or so we checked in for our ADR, Dart got changed and we went up to wait in the lobby.
And wait…and wait…and wait…
We were so mystified, because it didn't seem that busy, and there were plenty of open tables just sitting empty, but our device remained silent and unblinking.
AT 9:30 it finally went off. Seriously? A 40-minute wait? Oh well, at least we were extremely ready to EAT. Our waitress was very chirpy, skipping around the table, Dart liked the straw and napkin throwing. Then she went away to get our water.
15 minutes later, she finally came back with it. This was going to become a theme. She was nice when at the table, but I feel like everytime she went away she must've taken a ten minute break, lol!
Also annoying was that the water had a very fruity taste -- the waitress said it was because the water came out of the pomegranate lemonade spigot, and you had to run it for awhile to get rid of the taste.
Just for the record, later in the trip when I asked for tap water at a quick service at Epcot, I saw the CM run the water for 30 seconds (presumably to get rid of the fruit taste) before filling the cup. So they’ll bother to make it taste right when I’m paying nothing for my order, but not when there's a $120 bill. Okkkkk… :sad2:
I kept waiting for our WCC experience to look up, but it never did. We all got milkshakes. The menu says they have vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate -- but really they're all vanilla milkshakes with a dribble of syrup added. They didn't even bother to mix the chocolate in all the way, it was all streaky. :mad:
I get that Disney’s cutting costs, but if it’s a $6 milkshake, it should be made with real chocolate or real strawberry ice cream. Or at least mixed in completely!
We ordered skillets all around, I think Aramis might’ve gotten pasta (he wasn’t impressed with it). There weren’t a whole lot of options for Dart. They had grilled fish and grilled chicken on the kids menu, a hamburger, and then the skillet. Dart finally settled on the skillet, but – poor kid – he doesn’t care much for barbeque, so he ended up eating some cornbread and mashed potatoes and that was it!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/487.jpg
Cornbread. It was ok.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8708.jpg
They also brought out salad to begin with.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/488.jpg
At last the skillet itself came out.
I did like the barbeque ribs, and the sauce was nice. But Porthos, who is a meat connoisseur, said his favorite thing was the mashed potatoes (they were good). The brisket was quite dry, after taking one bite I didn’t even want another. The chicken was ordinary. They also didn’t bring out any coleslaw, we had to ask for it – it wasn’t that great when it came.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/489.jpg
Dart’s skillet, an abbreviated version of ours.
Overall, our WCC skillet just felt ordinary, especially considering the cost. We were simply too tired to stay for dessert (those late meals really get you!). So we asked for our desserts to be boxed up. Some of us started out to the car after a bit. We took our time walking out - Athos found a frog on the way and wanted Dad to let him take it back to Riverside.
Yeah, he didn’t win that argument.
We were expecting Mom, Porthos, and Aramis to be right out, but we waited 20 minutes and they still weren’t there.
So I ran back up, and they’re STILL at the table waiting for the check. URGH! Finally the waitress came back. My mom did mention the seating problem we had had, and the waitress, while not wanting to say anything bad about the managers, did say that that had consistently been a problem, and the wait staff was annoyed with it as well, because they didn’t get as many tables as they would’ve liked.
Finally we could leave, at 11 o’ clock, and we got into the car and drove back to Riverside. Everyone was far too tired to eat dessert – it was straight to bed for the Snobbishes. Tomorrow was an EPCOT day!
What a bad experience at WCC:sad2:
I always wonder when that happens to us at a restaurant - is it the manager's fault, the server's fault???
Are they not turning your order in timely or is the order being turned in and then it's taking too long in the kitchen?
Hopefully tomorrow brings better and magical experiences for your family:)
No problem, so glad you're enjoying them! It is so sad that Jane died so young...she was only in her early 40's, think of how many more novels she might have written! Have you read the two unfinished ones, the Watsons and Sanditon? I have read those, and the six novels as well as some juvenalia and some of her letters. I always feel bad reading her letters though, it feels like I'm snooping, lol! I love Mansfield Park, I would definitely recommend it, and the hero from Northanger, Mr. Tilney, is actually my very favorite Austen hero (even above Darcy!:eek: lol!)!!
What ??!! :scared1: Never say that there is someone better than Darcy !! I will have to read that one, then for sure !! I haven't read anything that wasn't widely published, but I will ... someday. It is always so sad when someone so talented dies so young and to know that possible the medical knowledge we have now ... would have easily saved them back then. :sad2:
I always wonder the same thing!! Could it just have been a bad night, maybe since it was so late service was slower or our own tiredness just made us more impatient? There are so many variables! We did have a really great experience at Akershus the next day, so that made up for it! :goodvibes
:rotfl::rotfl: I know, blasphemy, right?!? Tilney is just so sweet and funny and twinkley. Darcy is so reserved! If you go watch the 2007 movie adaptation of Northanger Abbey (which is SOOO good and has a really cute Tilney - there's no wet shirt per say, although there is a really sweet rain scene. ;)), you'll see what I mean! :thumbsup2
Two trips ago, we had similar service at WCC (and also felt similarly about the food). In a venue that relies so heavily on the atmosphere, you would think the managers would really watch the servers promptness and dedication to the theme at WCC.
As far as the food goes, I figured that it would be AT LEAST as good as similar fare found at Hoop Dee Doo Revue. It was not; especially considering the cost (as you mention).
All of that being said, I would gladly return to staying at the WL, as long as it meant eating at Artist Point. Now THAT was a meal worth the price!
WCC has never appealed to us, but we loved Artist Point. And WL is really charming (although when you live as near to Gatlinburg as we do, it's more homey than vacationy if that makes any sense.)
I really like the pool at Saratoga. I would want to play with the spraying horses too! I love going down the slides and all just like the "real" kids!
Ahhh............POR. Thanks for the pictures!! I adore this place!! And the slide at POR is indeed "breathtaking"! We didn't try the one at POFQ this year because there were too many kids. :rolleyes1
The beignets at POFQ were disappointing to me. I have only had beingets at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans and was expecting them to be similar...they aren't anywhere close! But they are very tasty if you aren't comparing the two!
And sorry WCC was so disappointing. I have heard good and bad causing me to wonder if I want to take the chance!
Two trips ago, we had similar service at WCC (and also felt similarly about the food). In a venue that relies so heavily on the atmosphere, you would think the managers would really watch the servers promptness and dedication to the theme at WCC.
As far as the food goes, I figured that it would be AT LEAST as good as similar fare found at Hoop Dee Doo Revue. It was not; especially considering the cost (as you mention).
All of that being said, I would gladly return to staying at the WL, as long as it meant eating at Artist Point. Now THAT was a meal worth the price!
Sorry to hear you had the same bad experience...it's funny how the Disney restaurants will sometimes go through up and down in terms of service like that. :confused3 We haven't been to Artist Point in a very long time, sounds tasty!
The last time we were at Artist Point was when they had the Pocahantas character meal...I think it was on our first trip in 1997, lol! It was good, we just never got back!
It was too bad, and we were so tired too. I think it'll be awhile before we do a 9:30 pm dinner again!
lol, I loved the Saratoga pool too! Yeah...I think we have had better beignets. They're meant to be puffy, but not hollow inside!
Definitely, the server can sometimes make or break the meal!
CONGRATULATIONS on graduating!!! That's very exciting, did you do anything special to celebrate? The treehouses were fabulous, I didn't want to leave!
My family and I made it into a mini holiday type thing, we spent a week in the place where my university is based, so that was pretty cool! :) On the day we went to China town and had this amazing meal too :)
Your dress is so pretty! I love it! And those kitchen wares were too cute! Sorry you had to wait so long for your meal though, it's even worse when it doesn't live up to the standards you expect from Disney. I hope you had some amazing other meals though!
I have only eaten at WCC once and I did not think it was all that, but I know there are a lot of people who love it. I'm just not one of them. I have wanted to try it again, but you review makes me glad I haven't. Maybe breakfast.
Has you family ever taken the lodge tour? I took it last May and it really it fabulous and a lot of fun. I know you do a lot of non-park activities and I always enjoy reading about all the fun non-park things you do. I think you would love this.
POR used to be "our" resort before buying into DVC as it sleeps 5. It's a really nice resort and we always had good stays there.
That's too bad about WCC, I've read some bad reviews on it but we've never tried it. Have always been wary of the loud atmosphere which wouldn't be good for DS with his Autism. Love WL though, it is DS's fav resort.
Wow, I missed more than I thought! I am loving your report, of course, as I always do!
I cannot believe they sell canned sausage in vending machines. I mean, I know it's the south but WOW.
Saratoga Springs is so pretty. I love your Samantha Brown reference! I LOVE her. And it was so sweet of that CM to give out a ton of stickers. I love that.
I can't believe that rude CM! I would have called a manager if he made a remark like that to me. It's not like they tell you to be there at a certain time for check-in. Ugh.
Ooh, I love the colors of the new mugs! And the nerdy merchandise is so cute.
WOW the Treehouse Villas look AWESOME. Reminds me of the WL! Thanks for all the details, I doubt I'll ever stay there since it's usually just my mom and I traveling and it looks HUGE! And that faucet is the coolest!!
Your brother is so cute telling you to watch out for the snake.
Saratoga Springs is beautiful. I especially love the new pool with the red and white! Gorgeous!
It's a shame you only got to stay in the treehouse one night but Riverside is so pretty and resort hopping is fun so yay!
Oh those Mickey kitchen supplies! I cannot wait to have my own house so I can have a Disney kitchen and bathroom.
The make your own pasta sounds awesome. I love when they freshly make it for you! They used to do that at the 1900 Park Fare buffet before it went way downhill.
I keep hearing that the beignets are overrated! Maybe those have gone downhill too? I've always wanted to take a trip to French Quarter just to try them, but now i'm doubting that!
Oh how I love the WL. I never noticed the raccoon tracks before but that reminds me of all the animal tracks at AK, which are so cool!
Ok.. I feel as though I should get an iPhone (even though I am against them b/c I know if I get one it will become my life... I'm obsessed enough with my Blackberry...) just so I can get one (ALL) of those amazing cases!!
You are probably right, you could make that castle frame. Hmm, I feel some inspiration coming on!
I'm sorry you had a bad experience at WCC. We love it there, but have only had breakfast which was much better than dinner sounds. I wanted to try dinner but I keep hearing so many bad reviews like yours that I've been turned off.
Can I just say I love how slow you guys take it? Page 11 and still no parks, lol you remind me of me! It is a VACATION after all, no need to run around like crazy. :cloud9:
Oh now - I'm sorry to hear your WCC wasn't very good. We have never eaten there before, but DH & I have lunch reservations there this trip. At least it's not all 5 of us this for this meal, so if it isn't any good it won't affect all of us!
We have had breakfast there (last time was a few years ago), and it was nice -- they had these cute acorn waffles on the skillet that were really good. We haven't done the lodge tour, though we've read about it! Definitely something to try someday. It'd also be fun to be the family of the day at the WL - you get to go up to the rooftop flag pole. lol, we do *love* to enjoy the resorts!
ha, that Texas license plate is awesome! :thumbsup2
I LOVE Samantha Brown. I was homeschooled in middle school and would watch Great Hotels while I ate my lunch every. single. day. I miss that show!!
Haha, I totally wanted all of the Mickey kitchen accoutrements too -- I did buy the towels, they were too cute to resist!
The make-your-own pasta sounds delicious --too bad it's gone. Chef Mickey's had make-your-own cupcakes on our first visit in 1997, and I still haven't gotten over that they're gone.
I do think the beignets used to be better too. It's such a pity that Disney has been cutting corners with some of the restaurants, especially since the prices (especially for the buffets) now feel like highway robbery! :eek:
lol, this was probably the slowest trip we've every done -- we went into TWO parks. :scared1: If Disney World was just the resorts, we'd probably go just as much. :rolleyes1 You're so right -- it is a vacation, and especially in the summer when you know the parks will be ridiculously hot and ridonculously crowded, why not take it slow and enjoy? :goodvibes
Gooooooood morning Riverside! Here’s the first sentence for this day, written in my Disney Diary: “This has been a very low-key trip, partly because we never tried to get up early!”
So even though it was summer and busy and today was one of our few park days, you already know that clearly we were doing everything wrong from the commando-touring point of view. lol! I’m the early riser of the family, and the tinkling chimes of my ipod alarm didn’t get me out of bed until 8. Obvi we weren’t going to make park opening – in fact we had to do some chores at DTD first for Mom to pick up the tickets, so we weren’t even going to make it in the morning!
My Disney commando planner instincts were appalled, but it was actually nice to not be in a rush. We knew it was late June, so it would be hot and busy, but we weren’t going to let it bug us!
SO. The first item on our low-key agenda was to grab a QS brekkie with a few of our dining plan credits. I think we split a few breakfast platters, and also got a side of biscuits or waffles.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/498.jpg
These cinnamon buns looked good, but I decided to save my snack credit for some Epcot international snackage.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/499-1.jpg
The remains of breakfast. I mainly took this picture to illustrate how I was hedged in by one brother reading a book and the other reading his ipod. Oh brothers!
Back to the room, then out to the car and over to Downtown Disney! Dart wanted to stop by the lego store while Mom got the tickets, so that’s where we headed:
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/500.jpg
The larger-than-life legos outside the store were all new and Disney-themed! I missed the old ones (like the around-the-world scenes with the mini skateboarder!), but these were pretty cute. Snow White was adorable.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/501.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/507.jpg
I’m not a lego-store expert, but I’m pretty sure the inside layout was new too.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/508-1.jpg
What’s the only thing cooler than a lego store?
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/505-1.jpg
A lego store made out of legos of course!!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/511.jpg
One last cute display…I like the skeleton and the robber. And the girl in the orange pants looks like a lego version of me!
We didn’t browse for long, Mom was quick. We walked back out through the heat to the car and drove to our day’s destination:
It was HOT. Our first stop was to grab some Soarin’ fastpasses. We left the AC of the Land and headed directly for the AC of Innoventions!
Dad, Dart, and I totally dominated in “Where’s the Fire.” The CM in charge was pretty funny. At the end, when it was time to announce the winner, she asks for a round of applause for the Findmores and gives their score, making us think they won. But then she says, “That’s the second best score I’ve seen all day, but the best belongs to the Searchwells, the winners!” lol!
I tagged along to watch Dart do the star-in-your-own-video-game thing. That is pretty cute! We also grabbed tickets to help Kim Possible save the world.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/540.jpg
Various KP villains. I wish the still showed Kim Possible on Disney Channel. The missions make me miss it! I feel like now they should try to turn it into Agent Perry or Phineas and Ferb missions to make it more current.
After prising the brothers away from the video games in Innoventions, we moved on to the next air-conditioned attraction:
We ducked into MouseGears b/c we had forgotten sunscreen that morning. As a side note, the new Coppertone sunscreen turns you blue. Very odd.
ANYway, it was interesting to see some design changes - where the registers used to be now there are t-shirts, and I think the cast member costumes might be new…they were really cute anyway!
But enough with the merchandise, let’s get back to the park! We exited Mousegears on the test track side and wound around the bridges (isn’t it funny how they just seem *endless* when it’s hot?) and at last arrived in…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/582.jpg
Me-HI-Co! Naturally, Dart, Athos, and I immediately started singing “The Three Cabilleros."
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/594-1.jpg
Then we boarded the boats to hear Panchito, Jose, and Donald sing it! (Don’t you love the way Panchito pronounces “Donald?” DOH-nalde! It sounds so important.)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/595.jpg
That is a really cute dress that doll is wearing.
DON’T DO IT DOH-NALDE!!!!
Getting our Gran Fiesta on.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/598.jpg
The view from the Mayan Temple…you could see the new restaurant! Looked snazzy. Since the Mexico pavilion already has a Cantina de San Angel and a Hacienda de San Angel, Disney decided to make it less confusing and really went out on a limb, naming the new place….the San Angel Inn. lol, I'm kidding, I like the name. The Mexico pavillion village must be called San Angel!
We were feeling a rumbly in the tumbly, and honey wasn’t going to satisfy us. No, only GUACAMOLE would do. Yum!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/601.jpg
The tiles in the kitchen of the new Counter Service are so pretty!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/602.jpg
The new seating areas were rather pretty as well...
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/603.jpg
We sat back there. It was fun to look out over the lagoon and very nice to be in the shade.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/605.jpg
Hooray for drinks that come with DP meals! I tried a mango jarrito – it was quite fruity and quite tasty!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/606-1.jpg
yeeeesssss. I LOVE guacamole. Dinner this evening was going to be at Akershus, so in the interest of keeping hungry we split two or three things.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/607-1.jpg
By the time I remembered to photograph the boys’ beef briscuit taco, this was all that was left.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/611.jpg
We thought we were saying goodbye to Mexico as we continued on to Norway. But then we remembered our KP mission, so we checked in at the booth in between Mexico and Norway, and guess where our mission was: Mexico! lol.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/612-1.jpg
Dart was in save-the-world mode.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/614-1.jpg
We were told to find a display with a giraffe to get the ultra-secret top-importance super-sophisticated clue. But there were two giraffe displays!! This is the one you want.
Those KP missions are popular! In that dark echo-y room you first come into when you enter the Mexico pavilion, you could really hear all the beeps from multiple kimmunicators echoing!
Halfway through the mission our cell phone device froze up! Boo. Dad and Dart took it back to where we got it, and they were able to restart it right from where we left off. Sweet! Having defeated Dracken, set off a rocket, and saved the world, we at last were able to move on to Norway.
Oh yes. I’ve recently developed a great fondness for the Kringlia Bakerijj. I like to call it Kringlia Og. I guess that doesn’t really mean anything in Norwegian (presumably “og” means “and”), but somehow it sounds right. Maybe because “og” is an adjective in Irish (it means young), so in my head I want to tack it on right after the name.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/619-1.jpg
This I just call deliciousness.
Ok, it’s also called a cloudberry horn. That cloudberry cream inside was supsaSUPER delicious. But then it should be – cloudberries grow on secret bushes hidden in the forest. Every family has their own cloudberry bush, but they don’t tell the children where it is until they’re old enough to keep the secret.
And no, I’m not making this up!
There’s this tv show on the “Create” channel called “New Scandanavian Cooking” and it stars one of the awesomest tv show hosts ever, Andreas Viestad. He builds his outdoor kitchen himself. every episode. always in different cools spots like on Norwegian cliffsides and in front of old castles. Plus he says things like “Too much of a good thing…is delicious.”
How right you are Andreas.
ANYway, it was Andreas who first taught us about cloudberries, and we had been watching his show right before we had left for Disney World. Mom and I were the ones who bought the treats from Kringlia Og, and Dad did NOT believe us when we told him there were cloudberry horns. We had to drag him in to prove it. I wonder if Disney has a secret cloudberry bush somewhere hidden in the Norway pavilion?? Or in the Land? Hmmm…next time I’ll have to go searching!
SO. The cloudberry snackage was a great success. (Also can I just say that “cloudberry” is *such* a pretty name for a berry!)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/627.jpg
We moved swiftly through China…I saw Mulan hiding in some bamboo.
Strolling along to Africa.
Probably we were too full to go into the new German Caramel Bakery. But did that stop us?
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/634.jpg
OF COURSE NOT. lol!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/635.jpg
Even the copper cookware looked caramelly!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/638-1.jpg
The stands they put the cupcakes on were darling. I want some for my house.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/639.jpg
Yumness.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/640-1.jpg
Porthos tried one of these. I think he liked it but said it was a bit dry.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/641.jpg
The treats at Caramel Kuche count as snack credits. At roughly $4 a piece, that’s a great value for a snack credit!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/642-1.jpg
Laden with caramelly goodness, we came into the town square in quest of a table in the shade where we could eat.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/644.jpg
There were a couple of tables tucked back by Biergarten, but every one was full! They really need some seating to go with the new Caramel Kuche. Where do they expect you to consume your treats?
We hastened through Italy and headed to that land of plenty, America. At least there was plenty of air conditioning, tap water, and open tables and chairs!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/650.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/649.jpg
It’s so nice that all the counter services never make any difficulty giving out cups of tap water…even when you’re not ordering anything, they'll always get you a nice icy cup. Then again, Disney probably needs to do that – when it’s so hot outside you’ve got to drink enough to stay hydrated!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/646.jpg
At last, my friend, I can eat you.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/648.jpg
It was a lovely cupcake. The caramel was grand, I did enjoy the icing although it was VERY sweet, and the chocolate was delish. It’s hard to eat cupcakes in the extreme heat though. They’re melting, you’re melting – it’s just not as satisfying. Still, it was good, and I would get it again.
At this point our desserts around the world tour had to stop, because we only had two and half hours to reach a state of starvation, in order to enjoy the Norwegian buffet and Akershus fare as much as we possibly could. We still had time to linger though, so onwards we pushed to Japan.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/663.jpg
I think everyone in my family loves Mitsukoshi. It’s a crowd pleaser.
The boys love the pokemon – there were also some beyblades, which Dart is crazy about. His birthday party was beyblade themed. Some high-school age guys wandering by stopped too to admire the beyblades, “I used to have these! I didn’t know they still made them.” lol, it’s funny how different childhood trends get recycled!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/652.jpg
I always make a beeline for the bags…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/660.jpg
…and stationery!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/659.jpg
Some might call it whimsical. Some might call it downright strange. But you have to admit the things they say on the cards are funny. Not only is there a picture of a girl eating a strawberry with a cat on her head, but there are also words to that effect, just in case you got confused. I love it.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/656.jpg
The Alice bags were so adorable!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/661.jpg
The temptation I finally gave into was that cute cute Cinderella notepad…it had four different kinds of paper inside, each delightful and darling!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/666.jpg
I heard an interesting conversation between and mother and daughter as I was taking this picture. The girl wanted to buy a cat, but intended to take off the red base as soon as she had purchased it. The mother said, “No, you can’t take that off, it’s meant to be the cat’s flying red carpet!”
IS it meant to be a flying red carpet? Thoughts?
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/667.jpg
I love the owls! I bought a pink one last year (guaranteed to bring new friends and romance – found plenty of friends, but alas, no true love. lol!) This year I decided on the blue one, which is meant to give you calm. With all the stress over applications and interviews, I could use some of that!
"Disney seems to have picked up on the tutu trend for little girls, and made a tutu themed for each princess. They made me wish I was eight and could wear one!"
Now those really are too cute, and wouldn't it be fun to wear one of the Minnie Mouse tutus? Great dessert pictures, yummy!
Also love all your POR pictures, my favorite moderate.
That was a fabulous update. So many yummy snacks and so many fun places to visit in Epcot! What a lovely day you and your family are having, despite the melting heat.
I am definitely going to be steering my family towards some caramel goodness with our snack credits in December. YUM!
Those little owls are so cute. I hope the blue one is working for you and you are sailing through your job interviews/applications. :thumbsup2
Oh my, that cupcake does look really good! Actually, everything does. Wow, I can't believe we didn't get anything from there in March. I will definitely be making a stop there next time!
We're staying off property when we visit next year, my parents prefer it so who am I to argue! It's the same place we stayed last time we went, we love it there and it's got everything we need. So excited!
Yum yum, I definitely want to go back there. The shop in Japan is called Mitsukoshi -- it has such a funky, eclectic range of merchandise. And I think Mitsukoshi is an actual department store in Japan and the Disney one is owned by them!
So when I last left off we were finishing up exploring the Mitsukoshi marketplace.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/669.jpg
Here is an interesting product with Athos introduced me to. There’s a small marble stuck in the lid, which falls down into the liquid as soon as you open the bottle. You’re able to drink the soda, and the challenge is to find a way to get the ball out of the bottle. There are apparently lots of youtube videos showing you how to get the marble out of the ramune bottle…most involve just smashing it!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/670.jpg
Back out in Japan…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/672.jpg
The desert sun beat down on us as we trekked through Morocco!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/674.jpg
There were lots of characters out, and lots of people waiting in line to see them.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/675.jpg
It used to be Marie was only a once-in-awhile, secret kinda character, but now she seems to be a regular.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/680.jpg
My family loves the France movie. I have made it my goal to see it enough times to memorize all the scenes. My favorite part has to be that mysterious voice that says (with a French accent, bien sur!):
“Among gentle spirits of the air, my France awakens with the early dawn.”
:lovestruc
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/682.jpg
Ah France, you’re so snooty, but so wonderful.
England lacks a movie with a mysterious voice, but I love it too. It’s got tea and cobblestones…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/692.jpg
Not real cobblestones of course. Real old cobbled streets are much more wily and jagged and apt to twist your ankle than Disney cobblestones, lol.
There were Cars 2 topiaries out (I assume left out from the flower show b/c the new movie was coming out that week). There were LOTS of people stopping for the photo op.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/702.jpg
No, not a bathroom break (although you have to admit that restroom sign is really cute).
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/706.jpg
It was time for dinner at AKERSHUS!!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/701.jpg
We checked in for our ADR and only had a 10 minute wait, then we waited in line to meet Belle – she admired my dress and asked where I got it, and she sounded a little resigned when she said she wore her yellow dress every day, lol!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/705.jpg
Our table was at the back of the main hall, a very cosy spot! We ordered our main entrees first…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/704.jpg
…there was quite a nice selection! That out of the way, the princesses weren’t near yet, so we went up to the buffet.
AGPrincess
08-17-2011, 11:17 AM
If Akershus only had that buffet, we would still love it. Everything is SO GOOD. Yummy rolls, turkey, salami, and jarlsburg and muenster cheeses (my mom loves to make herself a mini sandwich!), quite a nice selection of pasta salads, some fruit and veggies (including asparagus, one of my favs), as well as shrimp and an assortment of fish.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/714.jpg
I wish I’d taken a pic of the pasta salad names – the one with beets I think had apple or something funky like that in it, but it was good! I’m pretty sure one of those is chicken and another potato too.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/715.jpg
As far as fish goes, there was peppered mackerel, smoked salmon, and herring two ways. I guess Norwegians like their herring so much they make it twice, not once!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/709.jpg
Even the salad dressings had interesting-sounding names!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/720.jpg
My plate! I was even brave enough to try a tiny bit of the fish, it wasn’t too bad! I was tempted to go up a second time, but then the main courses came out – they were quite quick.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/721.jpg
Several people had the beef tips with mashed potatoes, which were pronounced to be very good.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/724.jpg
Athos tried the traditional kjottekake (Norwegian meatballs!).
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/723.jpg
I had been a little disappointed that a pesto pasta that I had really liked last time was no longer on the menu, but the mushroom-filled pasta (mushroom ravioli basically) made up for it, really delicious, the parmesian cream it was in was so tasty too.
The food was great, and the princesses were really fun too. Most of them said they liked my dress – Cinderella said I looked like I was going out dancing with my prince, and Aurora asked if my fairies had made it! Ariel was there too, she called everyone “angelfish.”
Snow White was the last to come around. Mom was telling her that I have five brothers, and she asked if they kept me safe. They all sort-of mumbled yes, and then Snow asks Aramis and Porthos, “But how can you keep her safe with your nose in a book?” LOL, serves them right, they’re always reading on vacation!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/750.jpg
This is all we saw of Aramis for most of the meal. lol!
I had brought along an old autograph book and got the princess’ autographs. Athos was looking through it and decided to psychoanalyze the princesses based on their handwriting.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/742.jpg
Belle (and Cinderella too) both underline their names, so Athos said they think they’re very important.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/746.jpg
Apparently Snow White is grammatically confused, because she dots her i ‘s with hearts instead of dots.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/745.jpg
Ariel, I was told, has secret dreams of being a figure skater because she drew a figure 8. The funniest part, though, was when they had a parade around the restaurant. When they announced it, we asked Dart if he wanted to do it – I think he wanted to go up with me, but much to our surprise and amusement ended up joining the parade by himself!
Athos is so goofy, you never know what he's going to think of next.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/725.jpg
The music was extremely princess-y and mushy: “A princess procession…a wonderful expression, of love!” So Dart was following behind Cinderella looking very embarrassed but so funny and cute; and we were trying really hard not to laugh!
He ducked out as soon as they came by our table, poor thing, but soon Dart was laughing too. Athos, Dart, and I like to sing the princess procession song at home, in our cheesiest voices. It was a great memory!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/732.jpg
Mini Belle wouldn’t have minded being in the procession!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/734.jpg
The red puffle looks on disdainfully…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/741.jpg
Dart soon felt better when dessert came! I later realized all these desserts are sold over at the Kringla Bakery. They were very good – the chocolate mousse was absolutely lovely, the outside layer was like a ganache, so good. I really loved the rice pudding with its raspberry sauce…I think I ate both servings b/c no one else wanted it! The fruit tart in the pastry was just ok – we did get two plates, since we were a group of seven. It’s too bad we couldn’t have substituted one of the pastry’s for another chocolate mousse though!
When our waitress came up for the last time, we remembered to ask her if she had ever heard of our favorite Norwegian chef from tv, Andreas Viestad. We had been making jokes about Andreas back in the kitchen during the whole meal, and the waitress said she thought his name sounded familiar, but he wasn't famous in Norway.
He's not famous here in the U.S. either, but we sure love him!
(And since I'm sure you're all eager to see the wonders of Andreas yourself, here's a clip from the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HWJB4FUw_I. You can even see him building his outdoor kitchen!)
Belle loved eating at Akershus!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/IMG_8821.jpg
So did I! I was a little apprehensive because we didn’t have a little one with us at a princess meal, but it was really fun, the princesses were nice, the food was fantastic, and Akershus is such a pretty place! I definitely want to do it again the next time we’re on the dining plan!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/769.jpg
Line for Belle and the front seating area, as we were walking out.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/770.jpg
Lots of people were waiting to be seated as we came out…it was interesting to see how they kind of did seating in rotations. There were the people with early reservations, like us, and we were all seated at roughly the same time, the princesses came around, did their parade, then the restaurant really emptied out, as people finished around the same time – and the CM’s assigning seemed to wait until it was cleared out to seat a new set of people to be ready for the next rotation of princesses!
Our tummies full of new scandanavian cooking (even if it wasn't cooked by Andreas!), we decided to continue our Norwegian adventure and meet up with a few trolls...
aww man that food looks amazing, if my family were more up for princesses I would totally take them there! That line is huuuuge though, can't imagine it's much fun waiting in that at all!
I love the UK pavillion, it's like a little bit of home!! That Cars 2 shirt is too cute!! I don't really remember the France film, definitely adding that to my list too! (Even if I have to convince my family it's a good place to get out of the heat!)
Totally planning our Disney days already, my mum won't let me properly plan until Christmas though (she wants me to focus on my internship... I can do both!!) My dad wants to do a lot of the unexpected Disney stuff this year like getting a boat on the Seven Seas Lagoon etc. I'm having fun researching that at the moment! :)
You could try to sell your fam on the food rather than the princesses...I know I was worried my brothers wouldn't have any fun at all, but they did enjoy it! The France film is defs a great way to beat the heat - plus it's got seats unlike the Canada and China films, where you just have to lean on a rail. Ooohh, that'll be fun to rent some water mice or a pontoon boat, we've never done that!
Most of my family is not into the funkier foods, but they really liked their meat and mashed potatoes, and it seemed like everyone found something at the buffet. Maybe if you could sell your boys on the food, they wouldn't notice the princesses...:rolleyes1 ;)
A big :thumbsup2 for all of those totally yummy looking desserts. I wish I could have some when we go, but I fear that they won't be as satisfying in the 90 degree heat and humidity.
Glad you enjoyed Akershus! We were a bit apprehensive at first too, but ended up enjoying if. I think we may have gotten different desserts on our platter, though.
Thank you for pointing out that the desserts are all at the Kringla bakery--that was what I wanted to check out, and I can go into the bakery and do that without the princess meal (it looks like not a lot of options for pescatarians).
We leave on Tuesday--already booked Boma and Cape May Cafe for dinners. :-)
Still feeling all smiley from our princess dinner, I skipped out of Akershus and found that the line for Maelstrom was only 10 minutes.
“Let’s go! I want to meet a polar bear and some trolls!!”
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/773.jpg
Looking back at the Norwegian castle…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/774.jpg
The setting sun was pretty, and not so punishing!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/775.jpg
There be trolls up there.
The queue was full of people, but luckily it was constantly moving so the wait was, as forecasted, only 10 minutes.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/781.jpg
We jumped in our Viking ship and took off!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/784.jpg
Ahhh, not over the cliff! ;)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/785.jpg
A TROLL!!
Ah, I do love Maelstrom, I only wish it were a little longer.
We stayed to watch the movie. Athos sat next to me and kept whispering a ridiculous commentary. There’s one point when a skier goes down a jump and then soars off camera, and Athos goes “Ow, my leg!” lol.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/786.jpg
Ah, a peaceful Norwegian fishing village.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/787.jpg
The shop was rather crowded, but Belle wanted to stop for a few pictures…
I stopped for a sample of Laila (someday I’m going to buy a bottle!) and came out smelling like the essence of Norway.
We had two things left to do in Future World – use our FP’s for Soarin’ and ride Spaceship Earth.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/809.jpg
Here’s Dart clutching his fastpass! This was his second time riding – he loves Soarin!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/810.jpg
We’re California-bound!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/812.jpg
While waiting and watching the movie, we noticed an odd hole in the wall and wondered what on earth could have caused it. A mouse?? A very angry baby with a very small fist?
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/814.jpg
First row baby!! No feet for us, lol.
We soared over rivers, canyons, orange groves, golf courses, and nighttime highways. I think one of my favorite things about this ride is the music – it makes you soar as much as the scenery! Finally we saw the fireworks over Sleeping Beauty castle, then whooshed back down. A pause, then a thousand clicks as we all unfastened our seatbelts, and we were back in Florida!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/821.jpg
It was a rather beautiful pink-sky evening.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/823.jpg
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/824.jpg
Even the Epcot ball looked all rosy.
Spaceship Earth had no line, as it should be. It’s funny how much that line can vary though – when we came in that morning it must’ve been half an hour long.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/828.jpg
Porthos, who is studying engineering, found this computer lab funny. “Of course all computer research labs play techno music.” lol!
By the time we got off our feet were extra tired.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/839.jpg
Au revoir Epcot!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/843.jpg
Monorail lime whizzing by.
With the battle cry of “D-14!!! D-14!!!! I remember where we parked the car!!” we rallied and found our row and our car and drove on back to Riverside.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/849.jpg
Here’s a funny thing the maid did – she made us a little towel organizer and put our toiletries in it. We found this cute but somehow a little odd…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/850.jpg
I got out my kahula chocolate cake leftover from the WCC and had a few bites. I was just so tired I wasn’t hungry though. It was off to bed to dream of the Polynesian…because that’s where tomorrow would take us!
Around 8 in the AM I was awake and pottering about the Riverside room, getting ready to check out.
Check out always brings out conflicting feelings in me.
On the one hand, even when you’re going to another resort, it’s sad to know a segment of the trip is over – and it’s a pain to contemplate all the suitcase schlepping in your immediate future. On the other hand, you’ve got a whole new resort to go to! In this case that resort was my beloved Polynesian…plus there was concierge breakfast in my future to make all the luggage lugging worthwhile.
So yeah, I wasn’t all that sad to be leaving Riverside. ;)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon191.jpg
Mia is also an early riser. She was annoyed that I hadn’t taken any pics of her around Riverside, so I snapped a few...
Good ol’ room 2511. It wasn’t a corner room, but it served us well.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon201.jpg
No time to go back to bed, Mia!! We’ve got to get over to Hawaii for kakahiaka!!
(that means breakfast in Poly speech!)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon203.jpg
The puffles were ready to troop out.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon197.jpg
Athos and Dart took the time to dive after a lizard. Of all the fantastic attractions and sights to be seen at Disney World...Athos loves the ordinary little Florida lizards best, lol!
Soon everyone was up and by about 9 we were out at car. Then we were seeing this sign…
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon208.jpg
The security guard wished us “Aloha” and we were home!!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/wdwcanon210.jpg
The Polynesian Parking lot. When you’re here you know fun is on the way.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/851.jpg
Brekkie! I had some cornflakes just dusted with a little bit of sugar (they’re super tasty like that), a hot chocolate, some cranberry juice, and I think also a chocolate muffin.
I was too busy sinking back into the pillows of my favorite couch in the King Kamehamea lounge with a satisfied “Aaahhh…I’m at the Polynesian…” to take very many pics. :cloud9:
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/852.jpg
My favorite couch also has my favorite view. How does Disney manage to make you smile every time you look at their castle? I mean really, it’s uncanny. Maybe it’s mind control…or maybe just plain pixie dust! :thumbsup2
I love watching Disney weddings from afar…this one I think might’ve been a vow renewal.
Just as we were finishing breakfast our room was ready – woot woot!
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/AGPrincess/June%202011/867.jpg
Put on your party hats, because I have some pretty darn extra-pixie-dusted, fantasmastical, super exciting news to share!!
Some of you may remember I mentioned earlier in this trippie that there would be a twist. Well, the twist is finally all untangled and ready to reveal!
You see, there's this one company that I've really wanted to work for, and all summer long, I've been patiently waiting to hear back on my application. There were all sorts of snafus, first my resume didn't go through, then I was waiting for a second interview.
I wanted to tell, I knew you DISers would be happy for me, but I didn't want to say anything until it was all definitely worked out. But now it is in fact settled: I have a job!
What's the company? Why, it's none other than the WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT!!!
:woohoo::woohoo::yay::yay::cool1::cool1::yay::yay: :woohoo::woohoo:
Yes, your Disney Snob is now a DISNEY CAST MEMBER.
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
No number of dancing bananas could possibly express how excited I am, but a girl can try. ;)
It's just a part-time hourly position, nothing fancy or corporate. I'll be at one of the resorts, and I can't wait to interact with guests and talk about Disney all day long! :goodvibes
I will definitely still be writing about my time at Disney -- I've been debating whether to do a rolling trip report here on the DIS or to start a blog. I'll still be finishing this trip report on the DIS, and when friends or family visit I might do more reports here too. But, I did decide to start a blog (http://www.apinchofpixiedust.blogspot.com) to do shorter, more current posts and pics, so I don't fall behind!
The address is apinchofpixiedust.blogspot.com (http://www.apinchofpixiedust.blogspot.com). You are all very very welcome to come over to the new blog, and I hope if you do you'll still comment with your thoughts and stories -- that's what I love most about TRs on the DIS: hearing from you readers and friends! :goodvibes
Alright. Just one more twist to reveal: we ended up having another short family Disney trip this summer, mainly b/c I needed to get my stuff down to Florida, at the end of July. It was a less-than-a-week stay, and since it felt like part II of the June trip, I'm going to make "Sense and Snobbery" into a two-for-one trip report, and tell about both our June and July trips!
Can't wait to share the rest of the family trips with you guys and all sorts of new memories as well!
<3 Emma
Emma, you all are back at the Poly-:cool1:
I can sense how excited you were when you showed the picture of the sign.:goodvibes
I know what you mean about smiling when you see the castle.
I don't know what does it either- but I like it:)
Waiting for more updates and great pictures.
Amy
I do feel excited whenever we drive below that Poly sign! :thumbsup2 Plenty more pics coming up!
I bet getting married at WDW is incredible. Do you have any such plans?
Haha, I wish! I'd like to get married in a church, so that rules out a Disney wedding, but maybe a vow renewal someday!
Oh, the hammock! How we miss you!
:goodvibes:goodvibes
The Poly looks so amazing! I really hope I can stay there sometime! I have to save my pennies though!!:rotfl:
It's a lovely resort. Even when we aren't staying there, we always drop by!
Are you working through the college program or as a "permanent" employee?
Nope, I'm not college program -- I applied normally through casting, so I'm a more "permanent," part-time CM.
Wow cool! When are you starting? If you're there for Christmas season might try find you!
I already had the orientation, and I start at my location this week. I bet I'll still be here at Christmas, I hope I'll get to have some DIS meets, that would be fun. :goodvibes
Congrats on your job! That is awesome. You sound like a wonderful young lady. I am homeschooling my daughter through middle school right now, I hope by the time she gets to your age, she is as on top of her game like you are. If I come across a CM with your name on our visit, I will say 'hi' and hope she is you. :goodvibes
