I want to plan a trip to Disney sometime next year but I don't know what places (if any) allow pets. We really want stay on property...

Sorry, none of the on site properties allow pets. Service animals are the only exception. If you do not want to place your pet in one of the on site kennels during your stay, you will have to stay off site.

I think the exception to that is Ft Wilderness. If you are camping there I believe they allow pets - at least they did when we went a few years ago. But as far as the resorts go on property - nope

I was under the impression that Fort Wilderness allowed some pets too..... you may want to call and check!

BTW: Your pug is ADORABLE. We're getting our new pug puppy in one week!! :) I wish I could bring him to Disney too! :)

Not our dog! They would run us out on a rail! We love our rat terrier, but he would bark and drive everyone to insanity! He is much happier to stay in his own backyard and guard it against invading squirrels!

IMO,
I think that Disney should have at least one hotel, or one bulding of a hotel that is dog-friendly. I know that I would love to bring my dog to WDW-he would love it there! My dog is like my child!
Does anyone agree with me?

KaterBell, I am so excited for you to get a pug too! Lola is most definitely our baby-she is a spoiled rotten puppy. She goes to classes once a week, sleeps in our bed, and yes, I bawled my eyes out when I had to drop her off to get spayed. (She's fine) If you have any questions about pugs, let me know.

Back to the subject of dogs at Disney-I have been looking and it seems you are all correct, however, another option is Residence Inn by Marriott, an all-suites hotel that accepts dogs. I used to work for them and they are one of the few brands of hotel that I know that takes animals. The one I used to work at charged 100.00 non-refundable deposit and 10.00 per day. That was because they completely deep-cleaned the room and flea-bombed it after the family with the pet checked out.

I've never even considered a kennel. I know they are not all evil but I've heard some horror stories...

NO!WDW resorts were built for people not animals. http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/puppy.gifhttp://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/puppy.gif

You know I wish that more hotels allowed pets. I understand why they dont - but my giant German Shepherd IS as much a part of our family as our son is! He is incredibly well behaved, and I would not hesitiate to bring him if I could. Frankly my dog can be a much better hotel guest and neighbor than our 2 year old DS can be at times! LOL! Now I do realize that not everyone would agree with me on that. A lot of people have serious allergies or downright fear large dogs like mine. I would hate to spoil someone's holiday because they were worried about my dog or sneezing!

That being said it would be cool of WDW did have one of it's properties that had a pet friendly section. There are a few very good websites that are specifically about traveling with dogs and other pets. AAA also has a book about it.
I find it ironic that some of the MOST expensive and deluxe hotels in the world (i.e., St Regis and Four Seasons) not only allow dogs but actually have amenities for them at many of there properties. I guess they figure someone who can pay $500++ per night for a room is going to be resposible with a traveling dog.

And what would you do with your animals, all day, when you are at the parks? Leave them in the rooms? You wouldn't leave your kid in the room all day, would you?

Yes, you can camp at FW in a travel trailer or a motorhome (not a pop-up or a tent) with your pet. My dog has been to WDW about a half a dozen times, and he loves his vacation!

Dopey Sharon: Yes, Gunnar stays in the motorhome when we are at the parks, but in dog years he is about 50 and doesn't mind the peace and quiet.

I would love it if could bring my "babies" with us.On our last trip we were only gone for 4 days and one of them would not even look at me for two days..can you believe that??..when we went to pick them up at my SIL house she saw me, came over I picked her up and she ignored me for the next 2 days.My husband could not believe it...she was upset at me ..she had no problem with my husband. She is a stray that we adopted that had been abused so it seems that if she is "home" she feels safe. So, now we decided when we leave in november my mom is going to stay at our house to take care of them.

Anyway,I did look into the option of taking at least her with us and these are the hotels that do accept dogs...Ressidence Inn Sea world and Loews Hotels(Royal Pacific and Portofino at universal).I never called Royal Pacific nor Portofino, because, my mom offered to "babysit".But, I do know Loews Hotels are pet friendly. I know the feeling I feel guilty too when I leave them behind. And I hate the idea of leaving her locked up in a kennel for a whole week at the Vet. Good luck!!! Let us know what you decide to do.. ;)

Dopey Sharon - I don't take them to work with me either,so,they are alone all day. When we get home at night they are just so happy to see us and this is when we spend time with them. And you may not understand this now(just like I did a few years ago) BUT, they are an important part of our family.

I've always thought that it would be great if Disney did build a hotel that had a pet-friendly section. It could have dog runs and big fenced-in places for pets to play. And since it would just be one part of one hotel, people with allergies or people afraid of dogs wouldn't have to worry about it.

I don't see what the big deal is about leaving your pet in a hotel room. We leave them in our house when we go somewhere for the day. Yes, you would have to take some breaks to let the dog out so he could potty, but it wouldn't be too hard since transportation is so convenient. We usually take an afternoon break anyway, and that would be fine with our dog. He doesn't go out that often even when we're home all day. I think he has a bladder made of steel.

Sharon, our dog is crate-trained and would stay in her crate all day while we were at the parks. That's what she does at home when we are at work. I wouldn't trust her with a kennel. She is our baby. I understand, though, why hotels do not allow dogs-I was just inquiring if anyone knew of any that did.

Whoever gave the tip on the AAA website, thanks! I am going to look at it now!

How much money do you have??? Yes, I'm serious.

Yes, if you stay at Fort Wilderness you can have your canine baby stay with you. For everyone else, your canine baby can stay at one of the WDW kennels. As for the money question........the Grand Floridian has been known, in the past, to allow the famous and the very rich to keep their canine babies with them in the hotel. I believe these "stars" were also staying in suites - that may be the dif. OF cOURSE, GF does not advertise this but you can't hide the occasional bark and you do see the personal assistant's walking the pampered puppies. Hope this helps.

Put the dog in a kennel at home and go enjoy your trip. Your dog will be just fine. Many many kennels are wonderful. Just ask your friends at family at home for a recommendation.

I work p/t for a veternarian and we board animals at the clinic. If you decide to board your animal at a kennel, go to the kennel and tell them you are considering boarding you animal, if they don't offer, then ASK to view the kennel. Try to meet the kennel attendent as well. Another plus for using your vet, is that they already know your pets.

I am boarding 2 chihuahuas, a mutt and 7 cats while we are gone and I know they will be well loved. A friend is going to take care of the Akita and Bloodhound, because I think they will be happier in their respective kennels.

One more tip, if you choose to leave your fur-babies in the care of a kennel, make sure they REQUIRE current vaccinations, including kennel cough.

All the hotels at Universal Studios allow dogs and cats. They even have a pet room service menu and designated walking trails. Of course, if you stayed at Universal then you wouldn't be at WDW, now would you? So I don't know what the answer is. At US, your dog could ride the elevators and walk through the lobby just like a person. I thought it was neat, but then again I love dogs.

LydiaAch: Actually, my in-laws use a great kennel in Lakeville,MA to board their big golden retriever while we go to Disney... and Scrump will be going there too when we all go as a big family... If you want the info, I can give it to you!! Just PM me :) We can chat pugs! I've been to this place, it's SO clean, and the people are awesome.

On the subject of dogs and cats in WDW -- If they had a DIsneyPet theme hotel, then I would be interested in checking it out!! With special dog walk areas, maybe a pet treat buffet.... hee hee, I could be good at this. :)

We use personal friends, or Grandma for our dogs, but we have used a pet sitting service. They come in as many times each day as you wish... some will even spend the night. We have a service here that employs only senior citizens! What a great idea! I have never heard of any bad stories where a pet nanny is used. Pet is happier because they are at home, too.

Thanks for all the tips, everyone. Like I said, I know kennels are not all bad places but I think the real problem here is that DH and I would miss Lola too much! We are such saps!

After having to recently put down our 15-year-old beagle (sniff!) we now have just two dogs. We used to travel with them frequently to my parents' vacation home; however, we find that it's just too stressful on all of us to even think of taking them to WDW or any similar vacation. They aren't great at the kennel, so we now leave them at home and have them looked after by a combination of a very helpful neighbor, another neighbor's teenage sons (who know our dogs and work pretty cheap), and a professional dogsitter (who is not so cheap but very professional and great with the pups).

The dogs miss us, but they are more comfortable in their home environment than they would be on the road with us, and we know they are well taken care of.

BTW, there is a website somewhere (sorry I don't have the URL) which lists pet-friendly accomodations all over the country.

I would LOVE to be able to bring our dogs w/ us to WDW! They are our children. :) Last time we went to WDW, my mom watched the dogs, so I know that they were in good hands, but I would still rather have them with us. :) I think Disney would be surprised how many people would actually want to bring their pets w/ them to WDW!!

Hope they never allow dogs on property. If they do I would never be able to go again since I am highly allergic to dog dander and always end up in the ER for shortness of breath. It's really scary! I can't even go to my sister's house because she has a black lab for a couple yrs now. It's that bad. And believe me I would love to have a dog. Tried it once ended up in ER numerous times and had to get rid of her. :(

KaterBelle, Great Idea. I have two dogs that are only 13 and 17 lbs each and I can't even think about leaving them in a kennel. I pay a pet/housesitter to come and stay for the time we are away. I got the other dog to stay with the first dog because when we go away I always feel bad that they have to stay home.
