I have a bunch of old diaries, and I don't know if I should keep them or throw them out. I just looked at one today, and it was kind of fun looking back and reading it. I had forgotten quite a few of the things, BUT..... Some of the things I wrote makes me blush!!!!! I would be mortified if my kids ever got into them. What would you/ have you done with your old diaries???

Keep them, but lock them up or hide them if you don't want your kids to read them. I always keep things like that!

From 3rd grade on, I've kept a diary/notebook with my short stories, fantasies, etc. They are horrible. And if anyone ever got their hands on them I'd die (how many pages can you go on about your fantasy life with Shaun Cassidy! :o ). But I'd never get rid of them. So they are safe and sound in a plastic container in my basement.

Oh I'd never throw away old diaries! I've kept one since I was 9, though not regularly. I love going back and rereading what I wrote. I say if you don't want your kids to see them, hide them away, but don't distroy them- you may regret it. I like to think of diaries as a way for people to learn about my life long after I'm gone.

Of course, I am a very sentimental person. During the last few months of 8th grade, I had dozens of penpals because I my letter and address were printed on the fanletter page of a Disney comicbook series. I saved every letter! I keep them in a big plastic bin.

I'd definitely keep them. I have 2 diaries from 1980 and 1981 that I cherish. They are filled with moments of my life that can never be replaced and they really tell the story of my younger years. I read them to my daughter sometimes. She loves hearing my family's history, because that's what they've become. Of course, they are hidden, because I am a private person, but I could never throw them out. I learn alot about myself reading them.

Hide them but don't throw them away. Your kids will cherish them when you're gone.

I threw mine away. It was a relief to know the kids would never find them.
