Hi, I will be at Global Business Technology Strategy of Disney for intern this summer. Anyone from the same department this summer? Where will you live for the intern? Let's know each other before the internship starts, yay~

I just finished a spring internship with GBTS (or gibits, as its sometimes known). I had a great time.

Two of the interns from my group extended for the summer term, and two of my classmates will be interning with the group I just left, so you'll be with all of them. They're good guys.

What team will you be with?

Oh that's great!
I don't know which team I will be in yet. By the way, did you know which team you'd be with the moment you received the offer? At least I did not:guilty:
Usually what do people do there?:)

Hi friend,

I was reading your older posts and they are very useful! Thanks!

About transportation...
I have a little question... is there any public transportation nearby Cumberland Park apartments (I will be living there)? If not, is it common for interns to carpool to and from work? I don't have a car at the moment...

And about the daily work routine...
Do interns at GBTS do coding works all the time? How about business analysts?
(I still don't know which team I will be with. In my second interview, the interviewer didn't even ask any technical questions, instead he asked me something about business documentation skills... mmm...)

Anyways, thanks in advance for your reply if you have time!

Dear Padawan,

Interns do not do coding, This internship will be about the nastier (but VITAL) aspects of technology projects. ie documentation, systems development lifecycle, document prep, end-user training.

And Padawan being at the bottom of the food chain means ensuring food and beverages are properly selected and made available at the team meetings.

Technology is really only applying tools to solve problems, when the first humans broke open coconuts with rocks that was technology.

I've been in technology for more years than I can count beginning with statistics coding on a DECSYSTEM-10/20 (the Blue ones) as part of my EE and I have seen many great coders crash and burn because they could not handle the other phases of the systems lifecycle,

This will be a GREAT opportunity to see how SYSTEMS are developed and maintained over time and I'd recommend getting over a fixation on coding as they can always find someone younger and cheaper than you are. BUT if you can handle the other facets of technology you will have a long and fruitful career in technology.

For the record I am currently a Wireless troubleshooter (Enterprise WiFi) for a major wireless vendor and my past Hardware/Software/Project Management background is essential in my current role where I travel the world and supervise troubleshooting of mission critical WiFi networks which frequently cost 7 figures to install and commission.

And yes I STILL get into code sometimes but just to read it and determine why a problem may exist and suggest to the development teams better algorithms for solving key issues.

Also get into hardware and signal simulation so that background is still useful as well, BUT my documentation and PM and most importantly Customer Service skills are the most valuable of all.

And THOSE are what you will take away from Disney if you are wise Padawan.

Mm... Unless it has changed in the past two years, (and no offense, but it doesn't sound like you have direct knowledge that it has) you may be doing coding.

There are generally around 8-14 GBTS (IT) interns, and almost all will be in different departments.

Some will be coding, some will be doing documentation, some will be doing business analyst type stuff, and some will be doing regular sustainment IT.

It just depends which department picks you, and no you won't know until your first official day of work. (The first weekday after traditions) Unless your manager communicates it with you before hand, but if I recall only one or two did that.
