I sure hope so! :goodvibes

We here at Turkey Lurkey Enterprises specialize in Nonsense and Mayhem. It's our bread and butter.

Had me at "Thinks fezes are cool" :woohoo: Dr. Who fan?

Yeah, I've been a fan for a while (particularly of the Daleks), but I've only recently started watching with regularity. I dig the way Matt Smith portrays the Doctor. I really wish I would have picked up a fez while we were at EPCOT. Maybe next time.

Episode 1: Leaving on a Jet Plane (Original Air Date: Saturday, January 22, 2011)

"I'd forgotten how much I hate space travel!" -- C-3PO

After months of waiting the day had finally arrived! We were going to Disney World! We had packed up everything the night before, so it was just a matter of packing up the van and heading out. After 3 or 4 idiot checks, that's exactly what we did as early as we could. It was only an hour drive to the airport, but we had an errand to run first. Disney on Ice was coming to the area and I was able to score some free passes for us. We just had to stop by the box office to trade them in at the box office. I figured since we were going to be down there, might as well take care of that as well.

We arrived in Green Bay with plenty of time to spare, so we head down by the Resch Center to pick up the tickets. I hopped out of the car and ran up to the building to find it closed...please call for Saturday hours. So I called the number listed. "Call back during business hours." So how do I find out when business hours are if they only give them out during business hours? I hoped this wasn't a taste of things to come.

We left that disappointment behind and went to a nearby IHOP for breakfast. I hadn't been to one in a long time, and was in the mood for pancakes. It wasn't very busy so we had quick service and a very nice meal. DD entertained the entire section with a loud, repetative version of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". Oh, the flight was going to be fun.

Got to the airport with little difficulty, parked the van in the extended stay lot and checked in. We would be flying to O'Hare, with a two hour layover before heading to Orlando. DD was in a good mood, and I hoped she stayed that way. She can be a little squirrelly when forced to sit still for a while.

http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/4353/airport.jpg
"Stop taking pictures, daddy, I wanna GO!"

We boarded our plane, thankfully it was not a puddle jumper like we had the last time DW and I went to Disney. I'm not a fan of flying, and the smaller the plane the worse the anxiety. As it was, I did get a doozy of a headache in the short time it took to land at O'Hare. It did not make the following any easier.

Once we landed, we discovered that our connecting gate was not the next one over like I had originally thought, but instead all the way across the airport. A shuttle ride thankfully cut some of the trip time, but we still had a long ways to walk. DD was starting to get cranky from all the walking, and the dizzyness from the first plane ride still hadn't subsided, so I was a bit out of sorts when an older gentleman bumped into me. I offered a quick apology and we moved on.

Wait...who was that? Was...was that Eric Clapton that bumped into me? Seriously? Naw, couldn't be.... But it did look an awfully lot like him, and he did have quite a group a round him. But alas, our time was short. We had to get to the gate for our connecting flight. (I know, I know, I should have stopped to check, but Disney > Slow Hand, sorry. If it had been Ian Anderson or "Weird Al" Yankovic, it might have been a different story).

The trip to Orlando was similarly uneventful. DD did a great job on the plane ride, considering it was her 1st time. We arrived at the same gate that DW and I arrived at back on 04 for our honeymoon trip. After a quick bathroom break, at a bit of confusion to where we were actually supposed to go, we made it to the Magical Express and walked right on the bus. The nausea and dizziness had subsided, replaced by a creeping giddiness. Palm trees. Sunshine. Green grass. We were in Florida! Disney bound!

The sun set as we made our way to the All Star Music. I did the online check-in, so I hopped in that line. We got our celebration buttons and a ream of stickers for DD. The CM then pointed out our room. I did a double take. When I did the online check in, I had requested ground level, close to the buses. I knew it wasn't a guarantee, but with a 3 year old that would no doubt need to be carried back to the room several times that week, my arms were really hoping for it. Plus, when DW and I were there for our Honeymoon, I requested Broadway and we got Calypso. So my hopes were high.

That's why I was a bit surprised and quite disappointed when I discovered that we were nearly the exact opposite. Luke's description of Tatooine to C-3PO was in my mind as we headed to our room, in the outback of the ASMu. The very last room on the top floor of Country. Oy.

We head back to our room and my brother calls to make sure we made it okay. I learned of his lost camera issues. We made our plans to meet up on Friday. We dropped off our luggage in the hotel room, oh boy that was going to be a hike, and headed back to the main building to grab a bite to eat. We got our resort mugs and meals (Chicken Penne Alfredo for DW and I, grilled cheese for DD) and relaxed. The alfredo was pretty good! Much better than I really expected. We finished off our late supper with Mickey Bars...oooh baby! I miss the old kind we used to get at the grocery store that had Mickey's face and only the ears were chocolate covered. But it was still great!

After dinner, we headed to the Maestro Mickey's to browse, get DD a pair of sunglasses, and to turn DD's piggy bank money into a gift card. As we looked around, I spotted a display of the Disney Star Wars figures! GLEE! And they had a two pack of Emperor Stitch and Darth Goofy! JOY!! And there were plenty of them, so I'd have no problem getting one before we left. GLEEJOY!!!

We purchased DD a pair of Little Mermaid sunglasses, got the gift card and headed back to the room. We all wanted to head to bed early as we had a big day set for EPCOT the next day, starting off with a 8:15 AM breakfast with the Princesses at the Akershus!

Greetings! I LOVE WDW in January. We went in 2004 during this time too, and our next trip will be planned for the same time. Sure it's colder (but still warmer than Wisconsin), and the chance of rain is greater, but that can be planned around. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantges, IMHO.

It would have been really impressive if you ran into Eric Clapton at Austin Straubel, instead of O'hare. Of course, he's probably telling his friends about the time he's pretty sure he ran into Turkey Lurkey, but wasn't quite sure if it was him or not and didn't want to bother him to ask. :thumbsup2

While we didn't see Clapton there, we were at Austin Straubel while the Packers were there on their way to Chicago for the Championship game the next day. We didn't actually see them ourselves, but we did see their plane taxiing to their gate.

Episode 2: Which Way to the Akershus? NORWAY! (Original Air Date: Sunday, January 23, 2011)

"There'll be no escape for the princess this time." -- C-3P0

I know, I know, two C-3PO quotes in a row? Have I already run the well dry? NO I HAVE NOT, YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH!

...

Sorry about that. Where was I? Oh, right, trip report.

So I soon figured out why we were out in the boondocks of ASMu, there was a group of students there, a group called Forza, and they apparently filled up every single other room in the place. And they liked to run. A lot. In the middle of the night. Between that and the excitement of the upcoming week, sleep did not come easy that night. But sleep did come, as did morning. YAY MORNING!

We had ADRs for 8:15am for the Akershus. When DW and I went to WDW in '04, I surprised her with breakfast there on our 1st day, because Aurora is her favorite princess, and at the time, the Akershus Breakfast was considered "her meal". What better way to start this new trip than with the same breakfast. (A note about that other visit. When Aurora got around to our table, DW burst out crying and hugged the princess as fiercely as any 5 year old girl. Aurora looked rather startled by this, and looked at me with fear in her eyes that said, "Save me from this madwoman!" I just smiled and said, "You're her favorite." Resigned to her fate, Aurora nodded and got back into character.)

DW had no problem getting up, but DD was a little groggy. But we got her going enough that we got her in her Snow White dress and I carried her down to the bus stop.

http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/8563/waitingi.jpg
"Daddy, get that camera out of my face! It's too darn early for that beverly."

A note about the dress. DD wanted to dress up as Snow White for Halloween last year. DW is friends with a seamstress that has done costumes for Broadway and Vegas, and owed DW some favors, so she offered to create the dress for us . As we planned out Disney Trip, we had decided that DD should wear the dress to the park. When DW's friend found out, she felt she needed to go all out. We think she did pretty darn good.

We waited a while for the bus, and were joined shortly by three old ladies that also had ADRs for the Akershus. To say they were a little put off by the lateness of the bus would be an understatement. They were like the Golden Girls, only there were three of them, and they were all Sophia. It made made the bus ride to EPCOT feel like an eternity. How I wished one of them was a Rose.

Despite the Ladies' worries, we made it to EPCOT with plenty of time to spare...to wait at the turnstiles some more. They did finally let us in and we made a beeline back to Norway...while the three old ladies headed for guest services. Guess they weren't in such a big hurry to make their breakfast afterall.

As we got closer to the Akershus, my pace quickened. It was our first day in the parks, and this would be DD's first character meet. I heard a shout behind me, DW was practically jogging to keep up with me and DD. I slowed just as we crossed the border into Norway. We were the second family there and basically walked right in.

And there she was, Belle of Beauty & the Beast fame. DD's eyes grew wide, Belle commented on her pretty dress, and ZOOM! behind me she went. This did not bode well. Of all the characters, I figured she would have the easiest time with the Princesses. No amount of cajoling could convince her to come out from behind me and talk to Belle or get her picture taken. The Photopass Photographer said not to worry, happens all the time, and handed us a slip and said to come back if DD warms up to the characters and she'd get us in right away.

We thanked her and were taken to our seats. We hit up the cold bar and quickly received our drinks and hot breakfast plates. The usual fare, eggs, bacon, sausage, the cheesy potatoes. OMG THE CHEESY POTATOES!!! I LEEEEERRRRRRRVE them cheesy potatoes (the secondary reason I wanted to go to the Akershus). I am from Wisconsin after all.

It wasn't long before the door near us opened....

http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/8982/ranasee.jpg
"Hey...whazzat over there?"

It was her 2nd character DD ever met, and DW's favorite...Aurora. Now that we were seated, we were able to get out DD's princess poster which we intended to get autographed and hang on DD's bedroom wall (and let me tell you, finding a poster with all the princesses on, including Tiana, would have baffled Indiana Jones). This, we discovered, was the key to overcoming DD's shyness (I would recommend it to anyone with shy kids). She had a task to accomplish. As long as she had to get her poster/autograph book signed, she was okay with approaching any of the characters. After that, it was pretty much a carpshoot to see if she would stick around for pictures. As Aurora approached, DD eagerly whipped out the poster and marker for the princess to sign. DD still wasn't too keen on getting her picture taken yet, but I could tell DW was....

http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/4104/auroranna.jpg
"Be grateful she's not squeezing you within an inch of your life!"

Next out was Cinderella. DD still was not all that interested.

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/745/ranacindy.jpg
"Sorry, you're commercially overexposed, I'm not impressed."

Then came the moment DW was waiting for. Snow White arrived. DD's eyes got wider yet. Finally, she was getting excited, and was more than happy to get a picture with the princess.

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/2024/ranasnow.jpg
But of course she wouldn't put on her bow for the twin shot. Alas.

Looking at this picture, I realize that DD's dress was more movie acurate than the actual character's dress. HA! Snow stayed and chatted a bit, of course remarking on the dress, and all too soon, she was on her way. But that's okay, because that made room for DD's other favorite princess, Ariel. She spotted the finless fish lady come out of the door and started panicing. "What's the matter?" "My glasses! My glasses! I have to show Ariel my glasses!" Of course, her new sunglasses. So daddy came to the rescue and pulled them out of the back pack just in time.

http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/2954/ranariel.jpg
"Say, do you have a spare dinglehopper?"

Ariel was pleased with DD's "goggles", but was absolutely blown away by the dress. Ariel stayed with us longer than any of the other princesses, and when it came time for the princess parade, she came from the other side of the restaurant to take DD by the hand and lead her around the parade route. You could have knocked both DD and DW over with a feather, they were on cloud nine. Ariel instantly shoved Snow White out of top spot in DD's list of favorites and DW talked about that the rest of the trip. I wish I had a chance to shake Ariel's hand and let her know how much that meant to us. If she or anyone who knows her is reading this, you're/she's AWESOME!

Now DD was in a Princess mood, and we asked her if she'd want to go meet with Belle now. A quick nod and DW took her off to Belle meeting attempt #2 as I helped myself to more cheesy potatoes. This time it worked out and they got a great picture. I'm so glad they did, because it's an awfully cute picture (and one we were stoked to receive "free").

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5028/ranabelle.jpg
The picture so nice I posted it twice...in this thread.

With princesses met, autographs and pictures obtained, bellies full, and assurances that, no, I could not have a pan of cheesy potatoes for the road, we were off to our first day in the park!

Actually, I'd be impressed if you can use a C-3PO quote for EVERY update... and yes, that's a triple dog dare.:lmao:

Great update, looks like a nice morning with the princesses. I'm glad your DD warmed up to them. It looks like she was really starting to get into it towards the end. I'm sure Ariel really helped with that. It's great when one of the characters takes the time for that extra special personal interaction. I'm sure your DD will remember that for a long time to come.

Oh, and I'm sorry they wouldn't let you take a pan of the cheesey potatoes for the road. What a rip off.

DD had a very odd relationship with the characters as you'll see in future entries, but yeah, Ariel certainly helped break the ice there.

As for the C-3PO quotes, I started off with a Dr. Who quote, so I guess I already lost that dare. :sad1:

Episode 3: We Don't Need No Stinkin' Strollers! (Original Air Date: Sunday, January 23, 2011)

"Well believe me, Mike, I calculated the odds of this succeeding versus the odds I was doing something incredibly stupid... and I went ahead anyway." -- Crow T. Robot

We made our way back to Future World as the World Showcase was still technically closed. We decided that Nemo would be a good first ride for DD. She loves that movie, even named her goldfish "Nemo" and "Dory", so we thought it was a good choice. On the way there, we spotted a Photopass photographer...since were doing the Photopass CD thing, and the park was still pretty empty, we felt it was a good time to get a family portrait.

http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/6184/epcotball.jpg
The Turkey Family and the Big Golf Ball

Unfortunately, our photogenic DD disappeared somewhere between Norway and the Future, and it was a fight to get her in the picture. Unbeknownst to us, this would become a theme. Also a theme? "Carry me." We didn't bring a stroller, nor did we rent one. We wanted to see how DD would do without one and we figured, "What's a little carrying around the park? (http://youtu.be/PFN_xuwiDW0) <==(clickme)

We continued towards the Seas, passing Innoventions, and I spied the Character Spot, and, from what I could see, hardly any wait! Score! Let's go see the Mouse! We stood in line for maybe 10 minutes and it was our turn. If you're familiar with the setup for the character spot, you know that the line is set up around the corner from the characters, so you basically don't see them until it's your turn (and if you're not familiar with it, you know now, and knowing is half the battle!). So, as we were called forward, we rounded the corner and BOOM! There he was, the Big Cheese himself! In retrospect, I suppose we should have let DD know what we were standing in line for, as the first meeting with Mickey did not go as I had hoped.

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/8210/nofive.jpg
"Haha, gimme four! Haha!"

However, once she put on her magical Little Mermaid glasses and was in full on Superstar mode, she was okay, as evidenced with the following:

http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/8148/ranaminn.jpg
Picture taken right before Minnie tried to run off with her.

We got our pix with the rest of the Fab 5 (sorry Daisy, you just ain't Fab enough I guess), and of course, they were all smitten with her. Soon, we were on our way and we heard the familiar sound of "MINE? MINE? MINE?" We were at the Sea, ready to find Nemo...AGAIN. (seriously, they ought to invest in a lowjack or something for that fish). As we approached the pavillion, we were charged with the honor of delivering the magical slip of time telling. We took the honor very seriously, and handed it in with all the gravitas the position deserved. No line to speak of, so 5 minutes would be the time of telling for all to see. Huzzah!

So focused on our task, that I didn't really notice how dark the queue line got. DD noticed though. As we boarded the clammobile, she started to get a little fussy. When it started, she got in full on freak out mode. We didn't really expect that. "What's the matter?" "DARK, TOO DARK!" Fortunately, being the awesome dad I am, and a former Cub Scout, I was prepared. Before the trip I purchased a small Princess flashlight, figuring that DD would need it if we went on Pirates of the Carribean or Haunted Mansion. I handed it to her, and instructed her to only point it at the floor. That calmed her down a bit until the end of the ride. I promised her that whenever she felt scared by a ride, she could hold the flashlight.

We went on to tour the seas, watched the manatees being fed, looked at all the pretty and goofy looking fishies, chased the dolphins, played with all the gizmos, I didn't think we were going to get DD out of there. But we talked her into Talking to Crush. She sat up front with all the other kids. We all got a kick out of the show. My favorite bit?

KID: "What's your favorite food?"
CRUSH: "Seaweed, dude, 'cuz there's so many ways to make it. There's raw...and raw...raw...raw...rawraw, ooh rawraw, lala oh rawraw...I guess you could say I go Gaga over it."

DD raised her hand every time to ask a question, and when she finally got called on, she clammed up and ran back to us. Oh well, she still enjoyed it.

Soon our Turtle Talk was done, and we were on our way once more. We decided to try our luck at another ride....

Just about every dark ride except Pooh freaked out DD2...she even had a meltdown in the Hall of Presidents! This year we are going to try either a flashlight or glow sticks/bracelets, and ear plugs/covers for the loud noises.

As for characters, DD1 has been twice, but was scared to go see Pirate Goofy, the first one we encountered, until herbaby sister went running for a hug!

Huh, just shows how every kid reacts differently. You should be able to find cheapie penlights at a dollar store, no problem. They're fairly weak of a glow (so they won't bother other patrons) and if you lose it, oh well, you didn't spend all that much on it.

I really wish I would have picked up a fez while we were at EPCOT. Maybe next time.

i'm there in 19 days, since it seems like we are both pretty close in location, maybe i can grab you one, and we can meet somewhere in the middle and hand it off. or ship it to you, but handing it off could be cheaper. (i'm in Shawano county)

So I soon figured out why we were out in the boondocks of ASMu,
....
The usual fare, eggs, bacon, sausage, the cheesy potatoes. OMG THE CHEESY POTATOES!!! I LEEEEERRRRRRRVE them cheesy potatoes (the secondary reason I wanted to go to the Akershus). I am from Wisconsin after all.
....
as I helped myself to more cheesy potatoes. This time it worked out and they got a great picture.
....
and assurances that, no, I could not have a pan of cheesy potatoes for the road, we were off to our first day in the park!

i'm at ASMu the first half of our trip, and i really really hope i get lucky and do not end up with the same experience you had this trip.

and, man now you have me craving something i've not even tried before and don't have planned this trip! :sad2: esp. if a fellow Wisconsinite says it is good enough to try to take with.

In retrospect, it wasn't a bad room, but DD refused to walk the distance, so that got a bit tiring.... And like I said, we were given a closer room than we requested the first time we went. Hope for the best, expect the worst, and you'll probably come out somewhere in the middle.

Episode 4: Ride, Princess, Ride, On Your Produce Ship (Original Air Date: Sunday, January 23, 2011)

"This place holds more magic for me than any palace in the world." -- Princess Lili

It took some coersion, but we finally were able to drag DD out of the Seas. After all, Daddy Turkey didn't come all this way to watch a giant fish tank all day. Unless it was an actual tank driven by a fish. That would be cool. WHO CAN STOP THE ONSLAUGHT OF THE SHARK SHERMAN?!?!? Hey SyFy, there's your next horrible movie! If you call now, you could probably get William Katt or Susanna Hoff to star in it!

ANYway, we moved on to the surefire, most safest, most tame ride in all of the World...Living With the Land. Surely, this attraction would get DD into the mood of trying new rides and experiences. Right? RIGHT???

We headed towards the land. Oh, didn't realize that's where Soarin' was too. ME: "Oy, you wanna do Soarin'?" DW: "Not really, you?" ME: "Nah." So we didn't. And it's probably a good thing, as the crowds finally started picking up and sure as shooting, Soarin' was where everyone was heading...leaving poor widdle Wiving with the Wand all awone...ahem, alone. We hopped into the queue, walked to the front of the line, and with very little wait, we boarded and were off.

And then I remembered. It's not all brightly lit greenhouses. There was a dark element to it with dioramas. Dark. Thunder. Lightning. Oh beverly, what have I done?

DD loved it. She was having a blast pointing out all the critters in the scenes, and was absolutely enthralled by the rainforest. By the time we got into the greenhouse, she was having a grand old time. DW and I smiled at each other. Finally, she understands. As we disembarked, DD excitedly exclaimed, "Again daddy, I wanna do it again!"

"Well honey, there are other rides we need to do."

"Okay! Let's go!" SUCCESS!

We moved on to the next pavillion and one of my favorite rides, Journey into Imagination. We toyed briefly with going to see Captain Eo. I saw it the first go round in the 80's, had the stuffed doll of that butterfly gerbil thing to prove it, and my nostalgia wasn't gnawing at me enough to bother with it again, and DW was not much of a fan of the King of Pop to begin with, so we gave that a pass and headed to the main event.

DD took one look at Figment and said, "I have him!" It took me a minute to figure out what she meant, but then I remembered, when I got Eo's flying Richard Gere joke, I also got a stuffed Figment. I had collected him along with a number of other dolls from my mother's house while cleaning it out and gave them to DD. This was a good sign. LWtL was one thing, but the Figment ride plays with your senses, including going dark. If she was familiar with Figment, that might distract her enough from being scared (though you'd figure that's what should have happened on Nemo too...but she was still a noob at that time. Now she's experienced. Right?)

Well she went through that like a trooper as well. Loved the wackiness of the whole thing. "Daddy, he's in the bath on the ceiling, that's silly!" All too soon, it was over and we made our way into the labs, and DD went nuts with those magical floor instruments (so did DW, but don't tell her I told you that). I had to drag them both outside, where I got a nice shot of them by the fountain.

http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/695/fountainc.jpg
That pyramid makes me want to play Tempest for some reason.

We either headed to Spaceship Earth or Universe of Energy at this time. Not sure which was first. Spaceship Earth makes more sense, but I seem to think we did that later in the day. In any case, we came back through Innovations West building and ran face to face into Rafiki and his handler. "Uh oh," I thought, "this might be bad." You see, DD has this thing with large apes, specifically gorilla costumes (I know Rafiki is not a gorilla, but she's 3, she just knows he's a giant monkey). We think it all stems from a Spongebob episode where Spongebob and Patrick were attacked by a "real" guy in a gorilla suit. Freaked her out. Ever since then, she's been afeared of gorillas, both real and fake. And she's not really familiar with "Lion King", so I wasn't sure how she'd react.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/2199/rafihug.jpg
I'd say she reacted okay.

She grabbed the autograph book from me and ran up to him. No prompting at all. Rafiki dropped to one knee, she ran up, gave him a big hug, and handed him the book. Full disclosure here, joy swelled up in my DisDad heart, and I teared up a little. Heck, I'm getting a might choked up thinking about it now. "I'm sorry Rafiki, we have to keep going," said his CM handler. Rafiki waved goodbye, blew DD a kiss, and they were on there way. I'm not sure where they were headed, but it was a little moment of magic that happened just for us. No line, no one else around. Just us, Rafiki, and a little patented Disney pixie dust.

I'm pretty certain we did Spaceship Earth next. It probably was the longest wait of the day, as about three full Brazillian tour groups got in line right before us. Oh well, as it was, the wait was only about 20 minutes, and it's always a fun ride. I like the addition of the video at the end. Nice little bit of interactivity. After SE, we sent the videos to ourselves and headed to Club Cool as we were a bit parched and, hey, free pop! We tried the usual suspects, until only one was left. I stood there, cup in hand, staring at the Beverly dispenser. DW looked at me funny, "You're not gonna try that again? That one was AWFUL." (Of course, when we got there, she asked me, "Which one was the gross one from last time?" I was a nice guy and identified it for her). But surely, it can't be as bad as I remember, right?

Yes. I'm an idiot.

I had just enough time to wash my pallette out with another 5 cups of Lychee Mellow before the place was filled with Brazillians, and we made our way to Universe of Energy.

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3898/alflower.jpg
Purty flowers, purty girls.

Another Wild Card, as we were not sure how DD would react to all the dinosaurs, but it was getting close to naptime (no lunch for us, we were all still full from Breakfast), and we thought, hey, maybe she'll sleep through it, because hey, 3 years old and a boring movie about energy. Well, DD must be a bigger Ellen fan than I thought, because she was enthralled by the whole ride, didn't even bat an eye at the dinosaurs.

Next two pavillions were, of course, Mission: Space and Test Track. Well, I would not even look at the Mission to Mars pavillion. I got SO sick the last time we were there (before they added the less intensive mode). So sick we passed on Test Track last time. The wait was only 20 minutes, but it was so warm in there, and I just couldn't handle it. I told DW she could go on it while I recovered, but she wanted to stick with me. What a gal! In any case, we both missed out on Test Track last time, and were eager to try it out this time.

Well, it was not to be. The wait time was 60 minutes, no way were we gonna stand in line with a 3 year old that long. No problem, Fast Pass, right. Yeah no, all gone. Peanut Butter! Looks like Test Track would elude us for another trip.

But we had no time to pout, the World Showcase beckoned!

I think I spend a good majority of my time at Disney worrying about how my kids will react to things. Let's face it--kids are weird. They're scared of things that make no sense, and fine with things that no one should be. Last trip, my (then 4 year old) DD would ride anything, declared no ride too scary, and spit in the face of roller coaster danger. And then, it happened.
PUSH the trashcan.
Freak. Out. I had to carry her across half the park before she would peel herself off of me and stop crying. Go figure:confused3.
This year, fears have changed (for better or worse) for both girls, AND we have a new addition of a baby boy who'll be 14 months old. This could get interesting. My hope is that my kids are champs about it like your DD; she warmed up quickly and is SO CUTE!

Heh, a thought for cheating the system...what if you had your whole party go through the single rider line? Would you all end up on the same car? :goodvibes

Thanks! Yeah, we knew going that DD may not react the way we hoped she would to certain things. When we first started talking about the trip, she told me the only characters she wanted to meet were the princesses, and that she didn't want to go anywhere near Haunted Mansion. But she sat with me while I cruised the DIS boards and saw all the pix of kids with the characters, and we watched videos of the rides. By the time we were ready to go, she was ready to meet any of the characters and give them hugs (except for the villains), and she wouldn't hear of not going on HM. Knowing how quickly she changes her mind, I knew we couldn't count on her sticking to that, so we never forced the issue and she performed admirably.

Yay, for her liking Rafiki. The Disney magic is starting to rub off on her:thumbsup2

Yeah, it was a really special moment, DW was bawling when it happened.

Nope. it's a separate line, they have it at Everest too, and I think RnRR. That's what DW and I did for our first rides. YOu can't cheat the system, because basicly, you fill the cars that have parties of 2 or 3 etc.

I think you may actually be on to something!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

DW was not much of a fan of the King of Pop to begin with, so we gave that a pass and headed to the main event.
This may be the first time that anyone has ever referred to this ride as "the main event" since they did away with Dreamfinder. I love Figment though, so this is always a must do for me.

i'm there in 19 days, since it seems like we are both pretty close in location, maybe i can grab you one, and we can meet somewhere in the middle and hand it off. or ship it to you, but handing it off could be cheaper. (i'm in Shawano county)
Back when Mark Chmura was getting in trouble, I laughed so hard when the ESPN reports kept calling it SHA-wa-no county. My wife and I now constantly refer to it as that. (I grew up near the Outagamie/Waupaca Country boarder. And I just put that in there to for all of the out of staters to try and figure out the pronunciation. :rotfl2:)

So, I will actually know what you are talking about most of the time? Awesome! :woohoo: Now, where is the bubbler? ;)

My wife was born in northwest WI, but spent a good part of her childhood in Arizona. It drives her crazy that I call it a bubbler, and even crazier that I'm teaching our kids that!

Not only would I watch it, I'd probably buy the collectors edition BluRay. They just need a little goldfish with a big ego trip (and a cigar) to be the brains of the operation.

Did you know "Rafiki" means "friend" in Swahili? Just though I'd toss that out there. Disney Pixie Dust = awesome.

I do it every time I'm there. Why? Because I'm in Disney World. :woohoo:

I had just enough time to wash my pallette out with another 5 cups of Lychee Mellow
Yeah, I make sure it's not the last taste I have in my mouth, either.

Just a quick FAQ about this Trip Report.

1. Did you forget about this Trip Report?
No, I did not forget about this trip report.

2. Then howcome no updates in two months?
I fell in with a bad crowd.

3. Seriously?
Well, kinda. I was cast in the local production of "Chicago", and that's been eating up most of my spare time.

4. "Chicago"? Like Peter Cetera? "If you leave me now you take away the biggest part of me, ooh ooh ooh"?
No, the broadway musical about jazz and murder and girls in their skimpy undergarments in the 20's. They made it into a movie? Ring any bells?

5. Die Hard?
No, not Die Hard! Chicago!

6. Wait, a Broadway musical? Like singing and dancing type stuff?
Yes.

7. And they cast YOU?
You shut your face.

8. So, back on topic, when can we expect another update?
Soonish. Maybe, hopefully this weekend. At the latest, first weekend in August, after the show's done.

9. ....
What?

Episode 5: I Can Show You the World...Showcase (Original Air Date: Sunday, January 23, 2011)

"Like all great travellers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen." -- Benjamin Disraeli

You're still here? After 8 months of no updates? Boy, are you desparate for entertainment or what?

When we last left our intrepid family, you'll recall (at least I hope you recall, it has been a while...you know what, you better go back and reread the first couple entries to catch back up. I'll wait.

...

...

...

Back? Good. Okay, on with the thing then.) that they were thwarted by Test Track. I was bummed, but I dealt with it and we moved on. On...to THE WORLD.

Earlier that day, on our way back from Princess Breakfast, we passed Duffy's photopass station. DW asked who Duffy was, so I explained. DD seemed interested in his story and wanted to meet him (forturnately she wasn't interested enough to want to get the doll itself), so we stopped back at the station on our way back through. Duffy was apparently getting his stuffing adjusted, as nobody was there. We were in no rush, so we started a line and waited.

http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/6905/superstarhw.jpg
Very patiently, like a good princess.

Not too long after that, Duffy and friend emerged. I'm glad we did wait, as DD was quite taken with him, and we got some good pics.

http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/5871/duffhug.jpg

http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/29/ranaduff.jpg

After getting his autograph, we waved bye bye to Duffy and headed to Mexico. I wanted to check out the rennovated Rio Del Tiempo ride, but first....

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3664/snacktime.jpg
We has a ice cream!

Refreshed we headed deep into the temple, first stopping off at the Kidcot station to get our Duffy on a Stick and stamp. DD really loved stopping at all the stations to color in a bit more of the Bear and to get her stamp. But I'll tell you, some of those stations were almost impossible to find! In any case, DD got her bear and stamp and we moved into the market place.

http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/1866/sombreroq.jpg
Does this hat make my butt look big?

We walked right on to Rio Del Tiempo, or whatever they're calling it now, and were on our way. I like the technology they added to the ride, but it just seems far too busy now. Too much stuff going on. I get that it was too slow and boring before, but surely there's a happy medium? Soon we found Donald and departed our boat. Good thing too, because guess who was waiting for us outside?

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/9717/donhug.jpg
Two Caballerros

After we left Mexico, we headed back to Norway to ride the Maelstrom. This one was the REAL real test, as it was a bit scarier than even the dinosaurs, but I needn't worry, as DD loved that ride too. She had become a ride fiend. Which was good, as I was then able to worry about how I was going to unwedge myself from the seats of the Nordic boat. I was kind of surprised this trip, as I'm a big guy, but the problems I had with fitting into the rides, wasn't my gut, it was my legs. I'm tall, but it's more due to torso than legs, so I couldn't figure out why I was having such issues. Oh well.

After Norway, I'm not entirely sure in what order we did things, as we did a lot of backtracking at this point, so I'm counting on the order of pictues on Photopass and my camera to plot it out. And so, according to my camera, we went to China next, in search of the next Kidcot Station and Mulan. Both were rather difficult to find.

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1691/mulane.jpg
But find them we did.

Next, Germany! Where we ran in to a friend from earlier...who could it be? Find out in our next installment...which will probably be in another 8 months....

Just kidding, it was Snow White! We hopped in line, because we wanted to get Snow to sign DD's autograph book (she only signed her poster before) and DW wanted to get a nice picture of the two of them standing next to each other in their dresses for the lady that made DD's dress for us.

http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/5433/lookupw.jpg
What could go wrong?

In retrospect, we should have gotten the pictures first, as Snow did the UNSPEAKABLE!!!! She kissed the autograph book and left a lipstick kiss in it! For some reason (probably because she was tired), DD did NOT like that, and let EVERYONE know.

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/5754/nosnow.jpg
"No really, she likes you! See the dress?"

We appologized to the embarrassed princess and forged ahead. DD soon calmed down and continued getting her stamps and coloring her bear. Before long, we were arriving at America, and ran into some characters! DD was back in good form and we got some great shots!

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/7688/ranagid.jpg
She was not swayed into a life of acting...this time.

Episode 6: The American Adventure - A Nap!

"Everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time." -- Stephen Wright

Wow! Another entry within a week? Yeah, I wouldn't get used to it if I were you.

Annnnnyway, when we last left the Turkey Family, we had found a group of characters, just waiting to entertain our little princess. After a great interaction, DD was ready for more characters, so off we went in search of MORE MORE MORE!

Our search brought us to Morocco where Aladdin and Jasmine were rumored to be. But first, nature called, and we began a search of a different kind. (In case you were unaware, the restrooms in Morocco are way in the back.) While on the search for the rooms of rest, I was struck over how much I felt like I was in an Indiana Jones movie. They did a heck of a job recreating the streets of Morocco. Task accomplished, we headed back up front. We reached the fountain, when we were approached by a Photopass photographer who asked us if he coult take a picture of DD. DD, a little shy of the strange man, agreed.

http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/6775/passlh.jpg
"Give me...bewildered. Great!"

I have a feeling it was for the Castle in Magic Kingdom. Do they take pictures from other parks and put them on the castle for the Memories show? I wish there was someway to find out which pictures were on the castle on any given night.

But I digress. Mini-photoshoot over, we got in line for Al and Jaz, who were set to appear at any moment.

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9903/ranasit.jpg
She was awesome at waiting.

Al and Jaz finally showed up, and while we Wisconsinites thought the 50 degree weather was absolutely balmy, apparantly it was a bit chilly for the couple from the desert.

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6450/aljazrana.jpg
I never knew that Aladdin was Norville "Shaggy" Roger's twin brother!

When it was her turn, DD brought the autograph book and the princess poster to the couple for autographs. But would not stand by them for a picture. Her shyness once again took over, and she wouldn't go near Aladdin. She would let Jasmine approach her, but no amount of cajoling, promises, or sticker bribes would let Aladdin near.

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/152/runfromal.jpg
As seen here.

We didn't press the issue, and since we had 6pm ADRs for dinner that were nearing, we decided to move on to see if we could catch a few more characters in France before we checked in. We did find a few.

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7376/ranamarie.jpg
"Aristocats"? Reminds me of a joke. No, I can't tell it here.

http://img815.imageshack.us/img815/6470/ranabell2.jpg
Dang, but she takes good pictures with Belle, doesn't she?

No Beast or Sleeping Beauty though. DW was sad about the latter. Belle actually spent a lot of time talking to DD even though there was a bit of a line. A side note on the whole calling kids Princess and Prince. It's kinda corny, and I know they do that for every kid, but seeing your child's face light up when one of them do that, there's something magical in that. At that moment, they really are Princesses and Princes. I'm grinning like an idiot just thinking about it now.

Our time with Belle was at an end, as she had other guests to greet and we had to get back to Germany for our ADRs. BIERGARTEN, BABY!

I have to admit, I made the ressies there simply because I had a hankering for some spaetzle. Also beer. Also also, DD loves polka music. We had never been before, so I thought we'd give it a shot. We sat next to a nice family from Virginia. The dad had ordered the beer flight, but couldn't finish it, so he offered it to me. Well, no Wisconsinite worth anything would turn down a free beer. It was quite tasty. The food was good, but overall had a saurkrauty taste I was't too keen on (I'm not a complete Wisconsin stereotype after all). DD liked the music.

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/9763/dancingu.jpg
Shaking her groove thing.

DW and I both agreed that we would come back to Biergarten, but probably not until we try a few other Epcot restaurants first. Dinner complete, we set about seeing the rest of the World Showcase.

We decided to take in the show at the American Adventure. It did what Ellen Degeneres couldn't, put DD to sleep. So, after Mark Twain and Benjamin Franklin enlightened us as to why the USA was so AWESOME, and waking up DD from her very late nap, we set about finishing up the Kidcot stations.

And also getting a really nice family photo.

DD was still a bit sleepy after her nap, so it was basically stamp and move on. And let me tell you, we searched all over Canada for that Kidcot station. The real Canada was less explored than when we left that pavilion. But we did find it (and it's very bored looking CMs), challenge complete!

All that was left was to find a nice place for Illuminations, which we did. And it was awesome.

Ooooh! Aaaaah! Ohhhhh!

After Illuminations, we headed for the front of the park, where we hit up the restrooms again, and I drooled over the prints and statues in The Art of Disney shop, while we let the rush for the buses die down.

When we got to the bus, there was a bit of a crowd still, and a bit of a wait, but we were able to get on and we were on our standing room only way home, DD asleep in my arms dreaming of what awaited her next.

Wow! Another entry within a week?{/QUOTE]
I'm shocked. Any chance this will make Casey step up and work on his?

While on the search for the rooms of rest, I was struck over how much I felt like I was in an Indiana Jones movie. They did a heck of a job recreating the streets of Morocco.
It really is impressive. For that matter, all the pavillions are impressive. I love how they just make you feel like you're really in that country.

Al and Jaz finally showed up, and while we Wisconsinites thought the 50 degree weather was absolutely balmy, apparantly it was a bit chilly for the couple from the desert.
:sad2:

Dang, but she takes good pictures with Belle, doesn't she?
::yes::

 Wow, I thought Ellen could put anyone to sleep.

Well, apparently one of you didn't think it was quite so awesome. :lmao::rotfl2:

Yeah, that long path to the back, it was like you weren't even in a theme park anymore...

Yeah, that's what we were counting on, so DD could get her nap in earlier. Alas, she appears to be a bigger Jeopardy fan than we had figured.....

I'll have you know there was no begging involved. I'll also have you know that, unlike some people, I don't go to other people's trip reports shilling my own trip report.... :rolleyes1

Now, good day sir!

Hey, I just updated last month, I still have at least 5 to update...won't be able to this weekend, though. Heading to MIL's for Lunar New Years. Not sure exactly, but will probably be gone from Saturday night to Tuesday night, with maybe a 1% chance of having Internet access...

Hope to have a new update by this time next week. Last couple weeks/months have been crazy busy, but should be lightening up this week. I sorted out pictures for Magic Kingdom day, just a matter of sitting down to write.

So soon....
