I'm determined to lose weight, so I joined "Curves for Women", a work-out place. I've gone faithfully for two weeks. This past week, my knees started to hurt a little (at first my slightly arthritic knees felt better than they have in years). I went and exercised on Wednesday, iced my knees Wed & Thursday night, and today, the left one especially, HURTS! It's not the arthritic pain, more of a "I pulled something" pain! How am I supposed to lose weight if I can't exercise? I see my doc on Tuesday, to get a referral to an ortho to see what I've done to it.
Anyone ever have this happen (ya know, exercise incorrectly)?

I have a bad knee that keeps me from doing some types of exercise. Aqua aerobics is great. There's almost no impact to your joints, and you can get a great workout. You can't do it at Curves, of course, but it's a fun way to work out. I can also do yoga, and I'm sure Pillates (sp?) would be fine, but I've never tried. There are some stretches that put some strain on the knee, but it's not too much in my case.
Good luck! I'm sure your doctor will be able to help you find something you can do.

Oh Minnie! I'm sure that really hurts! :(
I have really bad form when I use free weights, I'm always hurting something, but never to the point that it sounds like you hurt yourself. :( I hope it's not too serious and that you're back at the gym in no time. :)

Hi Min, I hope you are feeling better soon. Take it easy on the high repetition exercises..
I have heard good things about the Curves program from friends back East.. I am not exactly sure what it all entales tho..
care to fill me in??
The cooler weather today here shook up my OA.. but it will settle down in a few days.. isn't it lovely to be able to predict weather with joint pain.. LOL

Curves is an exercise regime that takes you from one "apparatus" to another in a circuit. You spend about 90 seconds on a machine, then move on to a "recovery" mat, jogging or walking in place, then the voice on the tape tells you to move on to the next station. The "machines" are not mechanized, they're hydraulic. The more reps you make, the harder you're working. New Curves stores start out with 8 of these pieces of equipment, with 8 jog-in-place mats. They add new pieces as their enrollment goes up. You do some stretches in a cool down when you're finished. It sounds kinda "gimmicky", but it works! I just don't know what I did wrong! It ticks me off - now that I'm determined to get healthier, I get slowed down like this.
Yeah - mjoan - I know what you mean about predicting the weather - but even this cool-down took me by surprise! It got cool in a hurry!
