We spent 9 wonderful days at Disney! We did some brand new things on this trip, which is always exciting. We also did lots of old favorites of course!

We crossed a bridge out of Indiana Jones (crocodiles and all!), took a forbidden journey with Harry, celebrated my birthday, Dined in the castle, floated down a lazy river, Rode our favorite ride over and over, Had a princess makeover, met a few characters, defeated Zurg, and took lots of photos. No promises on the quality, but we got quantity.

9 days was definitely not long enough! There was so much we didn’t do! Which just means we’ll have to go back, right!

Here we are in AK: Me (Kathleen) and my two sweet, fun kids – Hannah and Jacob.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/akfam.jpg

Jacob and I are both Disney addicts and can’t get enough Disney vacation. We see Hidden Mickey’s everywhere & are constantly reminded of Disney. It is really nice to have someone around to talk Disney with whenever I feel like it! Hannah once told me she likes Disney “like a normal person”.

Jacob is now 15. He is a lot of fun to be around, and can always make me laugh. He likes to draw, which is one of the reasons he loves Disney so much. He really knows a lot about the history of Disney movies & parks. (He chose Walt Disney to do a report on for National History Day a few years back). He helped plan and write a trip report for our last trip in Sept. 2008. This year he’s been super busy with school – 10th grade with lots of honors classes - and I've been busy with work, so there was a lot less planning. He loves all sorts of rides, from the coasters to the classics.

Hannah turned 13 a week before the trip. I sometimes call her “cute & crazy” because it describes her personality. She can get really silly! She uses her cuteness to get her own way. On our first day, when she started to unpack I commented that she had only brought one stuffed animal. She explained she would have brought more, but she wanted to have room for all the new ones she was going to be bringing home. :upsidedow Hannah rode her first roller coaster at an amusement park with a friend this summer, and we were looking forward to getting her on a few new rides. She was really into meeting characters & princesses this trip!

Less than three weeks before the trip, Hannah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes – an autoimmune disease. Her immune system had destroyed the cells in her pancreas that make insulin. She started insulin treatment, and we would be counting carbs, giving shots, and checking her blood sugar on the trip. This was a new challenge that caused a few stressful moments.

Also spending a little time with us at the end of the trip were My Dad & stepmom who live in Florida. They are terrific grandparents!

We woke up much too early on Saturday morning after being up much too late on Friday night. Nothing like packing at the last minute! After all the snow we’ve had this winter, I was so happy to have a clear, mild day. We headed for the airport, and luckily had short lines at check-in and security. I was nervous about going through security with Hannah’s supplies – insulin (a liquid) and lots of needle. It was no issue. Once we got to our gate, I was surprised to see the plane was already boarding? Later I realized the reason – it was the first flight of the day – and the plane was there overnight. No Breakfast, not the best start. I was worried about Hannah – but she reminded me she was allowed to skip a meal, eat her meals at any time of day, plus she wasn’t hungry yet & she had some zero carb food with her – hardboiled egg & cheese sticks. She ended up having the egg, and some snacks that didn’t add up to enough carbs to need insulin.

I didn’t take any photos in the morning, or on the plane. Just plain tired and hungry!

But the kids did!

One of Hannah’s plane photos:

We arrived in Orlando, and had breakfast at the terminal. When we headed over to the little monorail, one had just left. When the next one arrived, we entered the middle car, and had it all to ourselves! There were only 2 people in the front car and a family of 4 in the back car. I had to pull out my camera for empty monorail pics.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_9773.jpg

At the airport, we slowly made our way to ME. Stopping because Hannah wanted to take lots of photos!

So excited about this!

Hannah takes a lot of self portraits.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_0586.jpg

Hannah had never been on ME before! She was very excited. She was also amazed that we didn’t have to get our luggage. She (jokingly) asked if Mickey picked up the luggage himself, and I told her no Mickey’s in charge, he makes Donald pick up the luggage.

On the ME bus:
Hannah liked the seats, but she thought they should have Mickey shaped head rests with ears!

Notice the iTouch - They had them out constantly - and ALL their photos were taken with these. I have to admit I am slightly addicted to mine too.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_9780.jpg

On our drive we spotted the hot air balloon over Downtown Disney! Very cool to see!
I thought we will be there soon!

Then I looked up and saw the sign!
I told the kids to look, and others on the bus started pointing it out too.
The driver on the other hand never said a word.

Yeah!!! We are at Disney!!!

She was really excited! She wanted to know if it was the bus with the character's in the back window. She loved the cruise line windows though!

great start, looking forward to reading more :goodvibes Love all the photos, especially the empty monorail ones, I've never seen it as empty.

Thanks! We have another empty photo coming up very soon....:)
The monorail back to the terminal at the end of our trip was pretty crowded though!

subbing :) I may have missed it, but what were the dates of your trip? I'm looking at early 2012, trying to figure out the best time to go....

We were there 2/19 - 2/28.
That included the president's day holdiay. It was really crowded!!!
We have been 3 times that same week (its our school vacation) and this year was definately more crowded than any other year. It was a little better the last few days.

Looking forward to reading along! How fun to be on an empty monorail:cool1:

Lots of fun! It was a nice little bit of excitement to start off! :thumbsup2

It was cool to have the car to ourselves, all three of us took photos of it. :yay:

I was so surprised to see the sign. Jacob & I had taken ME once before, and the driver made a big deal of it, and said anyone could come up front & take photos.

Sometimes Hannah thinks I'm crazy! Maybe more than sometimes.
Jacob & I are a lot alike, we definatley think the same way! On the trip I asked when he wanted to go back - and he said April vacation.

We had a great ride on ME and arrived at Disney, there was a resort or two before us, and they started to show a Donald cartoon on the TV screens. The kids were really enjoying it. I was really hoping we wouldn’t reach our stop before the cartoon ended.

We spent a lot of time trying to decide where to stay this trip. So many choices. Jacob and I stayed at Pop Century a few years ago and loved it. With 3 of us this time I wanted a little more space – and a bigger bed. On previous trips we have always stayed off site. My family (my dad) has owned two weeks at a timeshare in Orlando for over 25 years. Living room, kitchen, two bedrooms (3 beds) & two bathrooms. Lots of space. It really only gets used when we go to Disney, though I believe my Dad sometimes trades it. But we really wanted to stay on site so we could ride the buses (no rental car) & stay for EMH.

We ended up deciding on the Beach Club, and were able to get the 35% off.
I booked the room at the very end of December, a couple of days before the discount expired!
We had a regular room, not one of the villas.

When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly CM, who walked us to the check-in desk, and chatted with us for a bit. When it was our turn to check-in, they tried to find us a room that was available now. That sounded real good. After a couple of calls, they determined a room was not ready. We sat down in the lobby, and started to reorganize our stuff to check some bags. Within minutes though we had the text with our room, so we headed off to find it!

I never did quite figure out the Beach Club corridors. By the end of the trip, I would still make wrong turns if the kids weren’t with me.

Here is our room- I took these right away, but not fast enough - the kids were in & claiming their beds by bouncing off it and dropping their stuff.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_9786.jpg

What I liked about the room:

The room itself was a nice size. Comparing it to general hotel rooms it was pretty big.
There was a lot of storage space, I don’t think the photos really show how much. Lots of drawers & lots of closet space.
The beds were really comfortable, even sharing with Hannah. :cloud9:
The vanity area was very roomy – we did like having two sinks. Much easier to all get ready.

What I didn’t like-
The bathroom itself was tiny. In fact, when you opened or shut the door, you actually had to push it past the toilet. It would bump right into it. Jacob commented, “You would think that would be a design flaw.” :confused3 I meant to take a video, it was just so ridiculous.
The small size made it difficult to get changed in there, and the outside vanity was open to the room – no curtain or anything.
The refrigerator was small, which is fine, but you pretty much had to lay the bottles of water down in a certain section or they’d roll out before I could shut the door.
The balcony was tiny, & I couldn’t sit out there. ( I LOVE balconies). But I didn't actually request one, so I can't complain too much about that. The door would only stay open if propped, so I would hold it open with the desk chair. Often sitting on the chair so I could half sit on my mini balcony.

I started to get settled in (I like to unpack a little – but at the moment just had time to get a few things organized) while the kids explored, crashed, & got ready for the pool.

We were going to check out Stormalong Bay – one of the main reasons we had chosen the Beach Club.
We thought the parks would be packed & we’d be better off waiting until night time.
Would this be a good plan for a crowded day or not???

This is one of the reasons I really didn't like the Beach Club. I always get up early, get ready and take a walk around the resort in the morning before the kids/DH get up. At the BC, I had to get ready in the dark, an very quietly so I didn't wake anyone up!

I also wasn't thrilled with walking through the lobby/elevators with wet bathing suits after visiting SAB. BC is a beautiful resort, but it just wasn't for us...

My cousin and his family stayed at the BC last year for 2 weeks and he mentioned the same thing about the bathrooms. It seems they would have designed the bathrooms a little larger.:confused3 Anyways, the rooms still look nice!

I'm glad to hear you say that, because I thought the same thing. For various reasons, I felt it wasn't the right choice for us ... at least not for this trip.

It was a fairly big room, so they definatley could have come up with some other options in the same amount of space.
I was thinking of the Carpenter's sayng "Measure Twice" :rotfl:

A couple of Hannah’s photos that I missed:

A towel Mickey head! Poor Mickey did not last long.
I did try to recreate him on the desk though.

Mickey soap!
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_0631.jpg

After checking out the room, dropping off our carry-ons, & changing, we headed outside! Well, after a quick stop at the Marketplace (the store/food shop at the Beach Club) for sunblock. I didn't have any small enough for carry on.

I had received a text from my Dad, saying “Welcome to Sunny Florida”. :goodvibes It was nice to finally get outside and enjoy that sun! When we first walked outside, Jacob said, “Too bright…Can’t see!” I think my eyes were watering, but we quickly adjusted! Jacob asked to buy sunglasses later.

We headed to Stormalong Bay. This pool is huge! And it’s completely fenced in with only a few openings. We had to walk around to find one! They check for room keys & give you a bracelet & towels upon entry. We had trouble finding chairs. The ones we did find were rows & rows back from any of the pools. Hannah went for a swim. Jacob rested until she came back and dragged him in. He needed to get hot enough to need to cool off. They went around on the “river”. I walked around for a bit, but then sat with our stuff when Jacob went in. We didn’t take any photos.

The kids came out when we were ready for lunch. We had come in through Hurricane Hanah’s the pool’s quick service restaurant. We’d commented on the huge lines! But they seemed to have gone down, so we gave it a shot. We ordered fairly quickly, but it took over 25 minutes to actually get our food. There seemed to be issues with giving people correct orders. It was the worst food service I’ve ever experienced at Disney, and others there at that time I believe would agree. I was not feeling any magic. We had lunch at a table at the pool, and headed back to our room.

The rest of our suitcases had magically appeared!!! I did a little more organizing & unpacking. We changed and got ready to go to the Magic Kingdom. I knew it would be really crowded since it was a holiday weekend (President’s Day), but we really wanted to go to the MK on our first day!
I wasn’t expecting to get much done. Just hoping for a few rides, and we had an ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner.

We made another quick stop at the Marketplace so Jacob could buy a pair of sunglasses.

On the way to the bus stop – another Hannah self portrait.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_0635.jpg

As we arrived at the bus stop a MK bus was pulling away.
As soon as it did, another MK bus pulled up
We got on the bus, expecting to be sitting there awhile. No, he waited less than a minute and pulled out. We had our own private bus to the Magic Kingdom.

I did not take many photos tonight. I brought 4 cameras (all Canons) with me on this trip. I never used mySLR, it stayed packed away the entire trip - its pretty heavy. The SLR is a hand-me-down from my Dad, who loves photography. I mainly use it at home. I really need to learn more about it. My favorite camera is my S3IS. It’s over 4 years old now, but I still love it. It’s smaller than an SLR, but much bigger than a point & shoot. It has 12X zoom, which is why I bought it. It’s the main camera I used on my last two trips, and would be my main camera this trip. Tonight I simply brought the point & shoot – 590is which is technically Jacob’s. A birthday gift from my Dad, 3 years ago before our Halloween trip. Both kids had no interest this trip in anything but the iTouch. Then there is the New Camera. I will tell you about the new camera when I get to Monday when we take it out for some use!

Yay! I'm so glad you started your trip report!

It really is so crazy that in 3 years, Hannah and Jacob have changed so much! It didn't seem like that long ago. I guess it isn't that weird though considering 3 years ago during my trip, Howard and I were not dating at that time.

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that Hannah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I hope you all were able to adjust and plan while still enjoying your vacation. From your morning situation at the airport and on the plane though, it sounds like Hannah's being very responsible! It really is surprising to see how some kids can handle these things so well. I have a 6th grade student who's severely allergic to a ton of things. She knows what she can and cannot eat and to immediately move away from other students who may be eating something that can trigger a reaction. I'm really amazed that at such a young age, these things can be handled. I don't think I would have had the maturity at 12 and 13.

I love the pic of the two of them looking out the window. What a moment to capture!

Does Hannah have to carry her supplies with her at all times now?

I wish I had a DSLR to use on trips like this, but then I realize that like you, I'd probably leave it packed away because it's just so darn heavy! I do get to sometimes use Howard's, so that's the benefit there! It works out that he's willing to lug that thing around and I ALWAYS have a point and shoot with me. I'm silly, but I think that is just one of the MANY reasons why we work well together, hehe.

I'm really looking forward to reading more!

 on the Hurricane Hanna's lunch - doesn't sound very magical.

Am glad you had beautiful weather and you sure seem to be having luck with getting empty transport! :thumbsup2

Love Jacob's pics of MK and looking forward to seeing more and hearing about how you handled the heavy crowds :)

No, tired, hungry, & having to stand around waiting was not good.

I couldn't believe we had the bus to ourselves!

Thanks, he has a lot more photos. Some days we did good in avoiding crowds! Other days - :scared1:

The park looked PACKED! Also, lucky you on having the MK bus to yourselves. We normally have to stand.:scared1:

I received a new Canon SLR for Christmas and I can't wait to use it at Disney!!!
I can't wait to hear more.....

It was so crowded that night, it looks more crowded in the next update! Thats why we waited to go to the park. I set low goals for this night! We just wanted to go to MK.

It was really cool to have the bus to ourselves, that would be the only time though. We did do some standing though a few times.

Congrats on the new camera! I think the newer ones are a little lighter. I'm not sure how old mine is, I've had it a few years, but not sure how long my Dad had it before that.

Subscribing! It is so nice to read TRs with older kiddos! Love what I've read so far! :goodvibes

Thanks! They still have so much fun at Disney, they both really enjoyed themselves! Jacob is still talking about going back.

Hi Rachel!
I can't believe how fast they grow! Three years ago I was taller than Jacob! I remember when you & Howard started dating!

Hannah has taken everything well. We had some issues on the trip & after, it was tough timing because she was still adjusting to the insulin. She has finally settled down the last couple of weeks. She has 3 set of supplies - one set to carry with her, one with the school nurse & one at home. Sometimes she forgets to bring them if we go out quick.

I wanted to use the dslr, but I just didn't want to carry it! It always seems like I have enought to carry. That's great that Howard has one, works out better that way!

Our number one goal tonight was to get Hannah on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We knew she would love it. We wanted her to try all the rides she’d skipped in the past, and this seemed like the best one to start. It also happens to be Jacob’s favorite. And one of mine. We planned to pick up fastpasses first thing.

We headed into Adventurland and Jacob was really disappointed to see the sign that stretches over the walkway missing. They were doing some construction around here. I hope they bring the sign back when they are done.

We were headed to Frontierland. It was crowded! We were going against the crowd. Everyone was headed toward the front of the park. We were headed for the back of the park.

As we made our way through Adventureland Hannah told me she felt like her blood sugar level was low. OK. She stopped at a wall and checked. She was a little low. -- What we need to do when she is low, is to sit down, have a fast acting sugar, wait 15 min, then recheck her level. It is then a good idea to have a snack, particularly if she has had some exercise. We always carried glucose tablets & lifesavers with us -- We were near some benches & I had her sit down. She took some glucose tablets, and we hung out to rest and wait 15 minutes. Jacob volunteered to go get the fastpasses for us. I gave him our tickets, but made him wear my lanyard. He tends to lose things, and I did not want our tickets lost. After 15 minutes she was fine. She had some peanut butter crackers to keep her level up. We decided that we would not have a lot of time before dinner, and I did not want her to overdo it, so I suggested the Pirate Gift Shop. Hannah didn’t think this sounded appealing to her. Such a princess! princess: I told her if she didn’t like it, we could try something else. I was about to text Jacob when he returned with the fastpasses & tickets.

Jacob took a lot of photos on his fastpass walk! Here are a few:

He had trouble holding the ipod a few times - his thumb looks so big.

Jacob likes interesting angles & close-ups & he will take a picture of anything that interests him! I like this one!

We browsed around the gift shop. Hannah loved it when she saw all the jewelry & pins. :cutie:

I thought this pin was so funny:

Hannah bought an autograph book. Of course she also needed a Disney pen to go with it. Jacob decided he didn't want to collect autographs this trip.

Hannah also picked out some jewelry. She wanted to buy gifts for her friends as well as some things for herself. She bought a triple BFF necklace on this night & earrings.

She waited in line and paid with her key card. She looked very happy to be charging something herself. While we were in line, Jacob had asked to get a medallion necklace, and had given it to us to buy. He had his new sunglasses on the edge of his shorts pocket. I told him that wasn’t a good spot and said “Don’t lose them”.

After we finished & were back outside, Jacob asked for his medallion. I looked down & his sunglasses were not in the spot they had been. I asked where they were. He didn't have them. He has lost many things on vacations so I tend to check & double check with him. He went back & searched, but we could not find them anywhere. Based on the times on my receipts: Bought sunglasses at 3:33pm, lost sunglasses at 4:49pm. :headache: He was really upset that he lost them. He searched for a while, but I made him stop to go to dinner.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/IMG_0066.jpg

We arrived at Liberty Tree Tavern about 10 min before our 5:30 ADR.
We have been here in the past (when there were characters). Hannah loves this one. Both kids like the food. It is “family style” at dinner. They bring out platters. First salad & rolls. We love the rolls. Then the main course of turkey, beef, & ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, mac & cheese, & green beans. For dessert it is apple cobbler & ice cream.

We were given a beeper, which went off within minutes, and Dinner was served very quickly! Our waiter was super nice & did a great job. :)

We had our table service dinner in less time than our “Quick service” lunch.

I really didn’t take food pics this trip. I was busy with checking Hannah’s carb counts. Two nights before the trip, she started giving her own shots, but I still helped her get everything out and ready & repacked.

After dinner it was almost time for our BTMRR fastpass, but not quite. We wandered in that direction, but didn’t get very far before the kids asked to go in the Trading Post. This store is really dangerous if you like pins. Hannah & I love pins. Jacob has some, but he was not wearing a lanyard this trip. We bought some pins. I bought two pins – The Pixar lamp, and the orange bird. They were both adorable. Hannah picked out a Tinkerbell pin, and a Mickey Mouse shirt. Jacob got a sheriff badge.

Our first ride of the trip!!!

Hannah was nervous at first – but she loved the ride- though there was a bit of screaming! When we slowed down at the end, she was really disappointed the ride was over. I was so glad she was trying new things!

Liberty Tree Tavern sounds like my kind of food! I think it just sounds like a very comforting meal to have.

So glad Hannah was willing to try BTMRR! That's definitely a must do kind of ride. I can't wait until the day that I have kids (if I have kids, that is!) and to take them on BTMRR!

After riding BTMRR, our first ride of the trip, we headed out of Frontierland, and just made it across into Adventureland before the parade started. Jacob suggested Jungle Cruise or Pirates next. Sounds Good! We decided to try Jungle Cruise first. Lines were short because the 7pm parade was about to start!

Hannah loves Jungle Cruise, but she had never been on at night before. Its fun to see the difference between day & night on the outdoor rides – there is such a difference sometimes!

Jacob took lots of photos, most came out too dark. these ones aren't as bad.

And of course the ride ends in the gift shop – so Jacob checked to see if his lost sunglasses had turned up. They hadn’t.

Hannah and I wandered around.
We had seen this cute little guy earlier.
Hannah took a photo-

It was getting close to 8pm, and Hannah needed her evening 24hr shot –this medication is in a vial and she uses a syringe. We were still learning to fill the syringe without getting bubbles. The park was also pretty dark. We decided to use the first aid center for this. Bad Idea. We had been in Adventureland. Away from the parade route. Away from the fireworks viewing areas. Away from the Crowd! The first aid center is between Crystal Palace & Casey’s - And Wishes starts at 8pm. It was mobbed, and the bridge across from CP was jammed with people and no one could move. The CMs were telling people to keep moving. No stopping on the bridge.

Jacob snapped off a photo – a little blurry, but an interesting angle.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_0179.jpg
The blurry shapes are people!!!

We finally made it to the first aid center. It was very nice; they have little rooms like in a doctor’s office. They also gave us some alcohol pads since Hannah was running out. We had not had much practice with treatment “on the go”, and she didn’t really have enough supplies on her. After this night I would check and refill her bag every day. This was the only time we visited a first aid center, timing & location just didn’t work, and we quickly learned to give this shot anywhere.

We decided to head over to Tomorrowland. Not the best idea. Wishes had ended, and mobs of people were heading down Main St. which we needed to cross.

Not Fun!!!! :scared1:

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_0183.jpg

Hannah was also hungry. Based on her blood glucose level she could have a snack. We finally made it to the popcorn cart at the hub. The new castle show- the magic, the memories, & you was playing. The kids started watching while I was in line. The show consists of light effects & images flashing on the castle with music. Hannah wanted to stay & see the whole show. She was more interested in taking photos & videos than eating popcorn.

Unfortunately most of the lines were long, and the kids couldn’t find something they wanted to ride with a short line, we started heading through toward Fantasyland. Around the tea cups Hannah announced she felt low. We stopped at a counter on the side of Enchanted Grove to check her level. The park was pretty dark and there was a light here. She looked shaky & her number was much lower than I’d ever seen it. Her goal is to be between 80 & 180. She was 88 not long ago, now she was 47. I’d never seen her below 60. I had Jacob take her to a nearby bench while I repacked her meter. She was sitting down & taking glucose tablets. I knew she’d need multiple treatments. She was also almost out of test strips. They come in packs of 100, so she just hadn’t realized she was almost out. I was slightly panicked. I bought her an orange juice. Then Jacob bought himself raspberry lemonade. I just wanted to get out of the park so she could rest & we would have test strips. No more exercise!!! But we needed to wait until she felt better. After a half hour rest, & a couple of spoonfuls of sugar, she was her energetic self again. I told Jacob to lead the way – the quickest way out of the park – despite the fact that it was after 9pm & there was a parade going on blocking the way out. He told me he would if he could just remember what the third D stood for – Destination, Determination… ??? …Destination, Determination, Desperation???? :wizard:
He is good at making me laugh, even when I’m stressed. I told him he had the wrong park, Harry Potter was at Universal. He did lead us out of the park, without much trouble. The crowd had thinned out and the sidewalks were clear. Hannah was feeling much better; she was snapping pictures of the ELP as she walked out.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/021911dw/IMG_0749.jpg

We made it out of the park with the parade still going on, and just in time for the bus. We made it to our room, and Hannah tested fine. The kids watched TV, while I quickly pulled out anything we would need for morning. That ended our first day – which hadn’t exactly gone as planned. We were exhausted and we had a big day the next day! And the next day went much better than this one!

I am enjoying your TR! My mom is a Type 1 diabetic so the stories that you are telling about your daughter are all to familiar. All of that walking can really impact your numbers.

I like your kids photos. They take pictures of things I would never think about.

The crowds looked insane in Frontierland - yikes. I am glad that you avoided it for the most part.

Thank you. Jacob is interested in art, and he definately sees things in a creative way.

It was so crowded.

All the T1 diabetes situations were so new to us. I wish we'd had more time to adjust, her Dr. lowered her dose a few days later, then again when we returned. A lot of adjustment at the beginning.

The show was cute. Very short, & in between the fireworks & parade, so nice that they fill that time slot when a lot of people are still hanging out waiting.

Day 2 –Sunday Feb. 20th

Today our plan was to head to Animal Kingdom.

I automatically woke up a little after 6am, but tried to rest a bit longer. I felt like I needed to catch up a bit on sleep after so little on Friday night. I had hopes of getting to AK at opening. Riding a few things before there were lines. I was up by 7, in the shower, & ready to go, in plenty of time. The kids were not moving though. I finally got them out the door much later than planned. I don’t think we had to wait long for the bus – though this one had plenty of other people on it. We arrived at AK a little after 10am.

All the photos in this update are Jacob’s. He’s the only one with a camera out at this point.

Tree of Life:
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_0213.jpg

Since there are not many breakfast options at BC, we decided to wait until we arrived at the park and try Pizzafari for breakfast.

We ordered, then the kids went to find a table. The chairs in this restaurant our brightly painted & most of them have bugs painted on them. Hannah still will not sit on the bug chairs. :snail: She searched until she found a table she liked that had a bug free chair. Jacob came back to help me with the food.

The food was good, but we were disappointed there were no Mickey waffles (or any type of waffle or pancake). There was a choice of 3 entrees – scrambled eggs, breakfast pizza (eggs with peppers, etc), & I do not remember the other. We got an assortment of things, including scrambled eggs w/bacon, pastries, Cereal for Hannah, juice, etc…

Jacob took a lot of photos in Pizzafari, in a couple of different rooms. There are a lot of murals & figures. Each room has a different theme.

We had about 40 minutes until a reservation at 11:45 that would keep us busy for a few hours. I wanted to make sure we knew where we were going and had plenty of time. We hung out a bit, and wandered over to Africa. We browsed at the pin cart. And headed to check in very early for the adventure we had planned!

I have never been to Pizzafari. It looks very bright and colorful! I think the breakfast choices are a little lacking in a lot of the restaraunts.

I am looking forward to hearing about your adventure!

Love the tree of life pic and all the photos of Pizzafari. We are not eating there but may have to pop in just to see all the different themes!

 at the EE times! Am looking forward to seeing what you had a reservation for :)

The kids are big pizzafari fans. They love pizza.

I wish they had a main course without eggs. My kids were actually allergic to eggs (would not feel well, have stomache aches) when they were little. They can eat them now though. We love Mickey waffles but they were hard to find this time.

The murals are neat. I would love to try some of the other places at AK. The kids like pizza too much!

The lines were long that day! We were spoiled with our late Sept 08 trip, when the lines were so short.

----------------------------

I don't have the next update done yet. Too easily distracted tonight.
I will try to finish tomorrow or Tuesday, and get this day all up this week! Though I have a lot of photos from this day, so it may take more posts than I think.

Jacob & I have both wanted to take a tour at Disney for a while now. But the kids are not old enough for most of the tours. Jacob & I had considered going on the Wild by Design tour since he had reached the minimum age for that one, if we had someone to watch Hannah (she's not old enough). Then our plans changed for the better. Disney announced a new tour! Wild Africa Trek! The age limit – Eight and older!!! It sounded really interesting – especially since Hannah loves animals, and we all enjoy Animal Kingdom Park. The tour started running in mid January. I checked out the reviews and photos & decided to go ahead and book the tour. I decided not to go on this with my Dad & step Mom though after seeing the photos of the bridge you cross. My Stepmother is very afraid of heights. They run multiple tours throughout the day. We booked on Sunday because it seemed like the busiest day of the long weekend. The tour had a limit of 12 guests, and would last 3 hours. When I called reservations, the earliest available tour was noon. We were told to arrive at least 20 minutes early. We arrived much earlier than that. We sat at a table & read over the times guide for the week while we waited to check in. Here is the view from an overlook near where we were waiting.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_7962.jpg

There were two other families on our tour for a total of 12 guests. We signed some paperwork (Disney is not responsible if anything happens to us, etc…) and after a bit we were brought one group at a time through a private gate, down through the little canoe area, through some bamboo, to the gear station.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_7966.jpg

We started at the lockers. We were not allowed to bring anything on the tour, except a camera with a strap. We also explained that Hannah needed her meter & some candy. We stashed our stuff in a locker (you set the lock with a 4 digit code, which opens the locker later). Then we stepped on a scale, and were given vests / harnesses. Someone went over step by step how to lock and set everything on the vest. We also had a radio with earpiece so we could hear our guide, and we were each given a full water bottle with our names on them. They clipped onto the vests, and also had a specific pouch on the vest. There is a pocket for a small personal item if necessary. The meter case just fit, but we decided to give Jacob the meter & have Hannah keep some lifesavers in her pocket. In Jacob’s words “Better to think you might be low & have something for it, than to know you are low & not be able to do anything”. We knew there were parts of the tour we might be temporarily separated. I had my camera in my pocket, clipped to the vest. Any camera must be clipped in or worn around the neck. Since the kids couldn’t take the itouches I was the only one with a camera. I offered it to Jacob, but he passed. I brought the point & shoot, because I was not 100% sure if I’d be allowed to bring a camera, and wasn’t sure how large the lockers were. (they were plenty roomy – several sizes available – the larger ones could fit a backpack). I would have been able to bring the S3 & I really wish I had – it takes much better photos at a distance.

After getting on all our gear, we headed over to a practice bridge. We crossed quickly, then headed over to a table with juice set out. The juice was incredible! Very sweet. I haven’t been to Tusker House for breakfast, but I always here about the juice there. I think this might have been the same juice.

The kids all geared up. Check out the Vests!

The pouches hanging on their right (left in photo) are the radio packs for the earpieces, we could adjust their volume.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_7969.jpg

We headed back to the public area of the park, where we took a few group photos, and learned how to work the clip on are harness, so we could remove it to hand off to the guides as needed. There were 3 guides on our hike, one of which had a photopass camera, and would be taking pictures throughout the tour.

We then headed through Africa toward the exit of the Pangini Forest Trail. We stopped at the gorilla viewing area for a bit.

Our guide was talking about Africa and giving us information about the animals as we went (over our earpieces).

We were lucky and saw a lot of gorillas.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_7975.jpg

He then came charging toward the end of the exhibit, causing a stir in the audience.
I would not want to make him mad!

Just after that, on the opposite side of the exhibit, a little baby gorilla came running out into view. I wasn’t able to get a photo of him.

Here are two photopass photos taken by our guide – He’s really cute!

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/Photo0060.jpg

Someone asked how old the baby gorilla was, sorry I don’t remember the age, but when our guide Laura answered the question, she phrased it “we first noticed him here in the preserve x months ago.” I was a little confused at first, until I realized that on the tour, the guides were on script that we were actually in Africa, visiting a wildlife preserve. They never once broke the premise in any way, any mention of Disney was strictly through the Disney Conservation Fund only.

Just past the gorilla exhibit, we headed off the trail onto a hiking path.

Laura, was talking to us over the radio set, and telling us about the animals and the path, and describing everything. We came to a Hippo skull that was being used to mark the path of the trail. We stopped to examine the skull. I hung back to get a photo of just the skull.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_7981.jpg

The trail led to a Hippo viewing area:
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_7983.jpg

I was aware that we wouldn’t necessarily see any hippos, and had warned the kids of this ahead of time too. Mark, our guide & photographer, took a quick walk to another viewing site, to see if the view there was better at the moment. It was decided we would stay here. We clipped our harnesses into the system, and were able to step closer to the edge of the viewing area. We could see one hippo at a distance at first. He even got up and walked over to a new spot to lay back down. We couldn’t really see him in the new spot, and I didn’t get a photo.

Joining in...what a cool tour so far!

Your kids are so cute! It must've been really challenging to have to deal with all the diabetes stuff, without being used to it...sounds like your DD (and you) were coping with it really well.

I just got back a few weeks ago from my first stay at the BC, and I totally agree with you about the bathroom. Ridiculously tiny!

It was a lot of fun! I think you'll really enjoy it. There are a lot of very different things on the tour. Hannah said the bridge (which I hope to post tomorrow) was her favorite part of the whole vacation.

I think the fact that we were adjusting made it the hardest. It was incrediblly overwhelming at first. The meal at the airport was our first meal not at home, hospital, or school. I think we will feel more comfortable on future trips.

It really was tiny!! I am glad its not just me, I don't remember reading that before the trip. :confused3 I also found it steamed up, but I like water at a very hot temperature.

We learned a bit about hippos and crocodiles on our hike. Two animals that could be found in the “part of the reserve we were hiking through.” Both these animals spend much of their time in the water, so of course there was a river nearby. And …

We were going to cross that river…

On this bridge!

Exciting!

There were 15 of us who needed to cross, so it took quite a while. One of our guides crossed first. (He was also our photographer!)

Then another family crossed. We were next!

I wanted to go between the kids, so I could get photos of each of them.

Hannah asked to go first. She was really excited!

We waited at the base of the bridge for everyone to finish crossing.

Then we headed down toward the river bank. Yes the river full of crocodiles! We were about to get a close up view!

We were harnessed in at the viewing station. I was last, and I was able to take a few photos of the set up.

This was only a short trail, and we soon reached our destination.
We unhooked all the straps on our harnesses and removed our water bottles to keep.
We were done with the harnesses, but we still had quite a bit of time left on our tour.

We had a whole different adventure coming up!

I will stop and make a few comments here – on the first two parts of the tour!

We loved the bridge!!!
Hannah maintained this was her favorite part of our vacation through the entire trip!

However, I can see this might not be for everyone. The hike through the woods was at least moderate. The trail was intentionally left as thin, for authenticity. There were obstructions on the ground, and places where you had to move foliage aside. You really had to pay attention to your step on the trail and the bridge. Sneaker type shoes are required, no sandals (they did loan two guests on our tour sneakers).

Also this is not for anyone who might be afraid of heights. As for kids, we had some young kids on here (the age is 8). They did great, they enjoyed themselves & had no issues. There was one teenage girl in our group that was nervous about crossing the bridge, they had her wait until last to cross the bridge, and the guide crossed with her, talking to her the whole time, and pointing things out to her.

If you can handle a hike and aren’t afraid of heights, and you like animals & enjoy animal kingdom then I really recommend the tour.

I am going to go a little out of order here, and post some photos from later in the trip when we visited AK again, and rode Kilimanjaro Safaris.

The harness stations at the hippo viewing areas- there are two, but each tour only stops at one, they try to determine which will have the better view, based on the current location of the hippos.

I like the way the CMs helped the teenager cross the bridge :)

We saw some people on the bridge while we were on the safari in March. I guessed that it was part of this tour. I didn't guess that they made the bridge so authentic! Wow! My oldest child is 7 and it is going to be several years before I will be able to convince her to do that, but I think it sounds awesome! Wonderful pictures!

The view was amazing!

The CMs were great on our tour. So much enthusiasm & so much info to share. I didn't know that about the crocs before, but we heard it a couple of times on this trip!

It really was fun! This tour was perfect for us.
And they created it just in time!

They did a great job of making it look good! Yet at the same time its all enclosed in net, and you are clipped into a harness! I don't think Hannah would have liked it at 7! The younger kids on our tour did great though.

Sorry for the update delays. :confused3

Haven't been on the computer much.
Last two times I tried to update I had technical difficulties.
Photobucket kept stopping mid upload last week.
Two nights ago my computer could not deal with any web page at all. :badpc:

I updated lots of stuff, so hopefully everything will work.

Before I start - just wanted to tell everyone what Jacob and Hannah did for Mother's Day. They (mostly Jacob) made a calendar with photos from our Disney trip that they uploaded and put together cool groupings and backgrounds. They did a fantastic job. It was perfect because Jacob knew that I had recently decided that I wanted to put a calendar above my desk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so we were on our Wild Africa Trek, we had crossed over several exciting bridges, got a close-up personal view of some crocodiles, then unloaded our harnesses, and took a short hike through the woods to the Savannah. When we arrived, our transportation was waiting.

(taken later in the trip while on Kilimanjaro Safaris)

Seated and ready for the next part of our adventure

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_8092.jpg

Our vehicles were equipped with a half dozen binoculars under the seats.
We traveled through the Kilimanjaro Safari’s ride track along with the regular vehicles, except that we were able to stop at several viewing areas along the side of the road. While we were stopped we were allowed to get up and move around for a better view. We also had our guides riding along with us, giving us lots of information about the animals we were seeing.

Now we had reached our destination for the next part of our tour, we were going to have a chance to relax, enjoy the view, and have a little snack.

I promise to get the next one up this weekend (maybe tomorrow night), mostly ready, but need to ask the kids for a refresher on some details, and add the photopass photos!

We experienced A Taste of Africa – For the adults: Melons, fruit; Chicken salad; Proscuito; Shrimp; Salmon; Pita pieces & I forget what we had to put on them. For the kids: Melons, fruit; Chesse cubes; Pinwheel sandwhich; Carrots & dressing; Trail mix (pretzels, nuts, m&ms, dried bananas & raisins). Jacob was disappointed he wasn’t able to have an adult choice, but we did a lot of trading. I gave him my shrimp & salmon, he also wanted a pita. He gave me his carrots. The flower in the container was “edible”, one person said later they tried it. I saved mine, but lost it later that day. There were little wooden spoons, which we were told we could keep, so the kids saved theirs. We also had more of that delicious juice!

Sometime in the future this will be a path leading to an additional viewing area. There were plenty of binoculars around the enclosure, and if we stood in an exact spot and look in a specific direction, we could see a lioness in the distance.

We stopped for a distant view of the Cheetahs-

We finished out our safari ride on the regular Kilimanjaro trail (with a couple side of the road stops). We were let off at the ride exit, and our tour group hiked back to the tour center together.

Part of the tour fee is donated to charity, and we were given a vote as to what type of charity we wanted to support. Our choices were elephants, big cats, rhinos or the Disney Conservation Fund. After voting we were given our photopass cards & collected our items from our lockers.

We really enjoyed our tour!

The tour was scheduled for 12-3pm, but we had been running a little late, we had been asked earlier if we had anywhere we needed to be or if everyone was ok with returning a little late. Everyone was ok with the extra time.

After our long adventurous tour, we were back in the super crowded park with lots of other people! We had fastpasses to Expedition Everest, that was about the only ride we had the time or the energy for! We headed over to Asia! Before riding we browsed the merchandise on one of the carts. I told Hannah a couple of years ago, that if she would try the ride, I’d buy her a yeti. What would she pick?

Hannah took lots of photos of all the yeti merchandise!

We rode Everest and Hannah loved it! She was screaming a lot, and then when we were inside in the dark, she was really quiet. When they took the ride photo I was trying to ask her if she was ok, but then we started to drop and talking, laughing, & screaming at the same time is really hard.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/everest1small.jpg

Jacob was behind us, but he is not in the same photo. I was really annoyed with that. Hannah wanted to buy the photo. The photo package comes with 2 small photos, and the CM offered to use the 2 different photos, but Jacob said he didn’t like his photo, so we didn’t get that one.

We wandered around the gift shop for a while, and I don’t remember everything we ended up with, but Hannah picked out her Yeti. She also wanted a Yeti hat. And Jacob bought a rope bracelet.

Here Hannah is back at the room later on with her new friend and her hat. He wasn’t a very scary Yeti, and I called him the giant puffball.

I took the same photo as Jacob in the gift shop! It was a really cool display.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_8163.jpg

After the ride, we passed the photopass with Everest in the background. I really like that spot, and I thought it would be cool to get a photo there with our new Yeti friend!

We were a little hungry so we headed back to Pizzafari where we had Pizza for an early dinner. The food on the tour is billed as a “snack”. It ended up being lunch for Jacob & I, and the pizza being our dinner. Hannah had something else back at the room for an additional meal. But I think she had less to eat on the tour than us.

Love this sign on the way.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_8165.jpg

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_8167.jpg

Hannah really wanted soft serve ice cream so she included that in her insulin shot with dinner. We hurried back to Asia to the ice cream truck. We had to wait a bit in line. We chatted with the man behind us. He told us how long the lines had been all day! And we also compared stories about the lines at MK the night before. He & his wife were visiting from Arizona. It was almost time for their Everest fastpasses.

No photos, but the ice cream was really good! 3 Soft serve vanilla cones for us!

Hannah had seen an autograph book she really wanted earlier that day, so we headed back to Africa to buy the book and some pins. The book was purple & had Tink on it!

We made it back to the room and discussed our plans for the rest of the night. It was probably between 6 & 7 pm. Magic Kingdom was open late with Extra Magic Hours. We even had a reservation for Crystal Palace around 8:30pm. But I was exhausted and really not hungry. Plus after the crowds the night before, and Hannah’s low, I really did not want to go. Hannah did. Jacob was undecided. He wanted to rest & decide later, he also wasn’t that hungry. We decided that Hannah – the only hungry one would get something from the Marketplace, and then we would wait a bit, and then go down to the pool. The quiet pool near our room. The hot tub was sounding good after a long day.

Hannah all ready for the Pool!
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022011dw/IMG_8182.jpg

The pool ended up being the perfect ending to our 2nd day! We really just needed to relax.

The park we were planning on going to the next day didn't open until 10am. So we didn't need to be ready to leave until 9 the next morning, giving us plent of time to rest!

Loving your reviews! Can't wait for more!

Thanks! & Welcome!

Love the yeti merchandise and EE photos. I thought the yeti was meant to be scary but in all of the merchandise he seems so sweet!

That's a shame about you guys being on seperate EE photos.

Any autograph book that has Tink on it is cool! :thumbsup2

Relaxing for the evening sounds like a great idea.

Yeah, Lots of Cutesy stuff, but some scary stuff, Hannah liked the cute stuff more though I guess.

It happened later in the trip too. :headache:

It was a cute book, and relaxing was definately the right idea.

I love all of the pictures of the Everest line. I have never ridden it so I haven't seen the line before. The details are excellent. Maybe some day one of my kids will want to ride and I can wait in line with them and take pictures (then escape via a chicken door :rolleyes1)

I love how your kids take such great "atmosphere" pictures. I feel like I am walking through the parks with them. :thumbsup2

Thank you! Its great that they give you lots of interesting things to see in the lines! The kids loved taking the pictures. They have different intersts too, so we had a variety of shots!

Day 3 - Monday, 02/21/11
Typhoon Lagoon

We figured Monday would be another busy day. It was still the holiday weekend. I thought it would be a good day for a water park. This was our first time at a Disney Water Park. We went to Typhoon Lagoon. The weather turned out perfect! Beautiful!

We arrived around a little before 10am opening, and bought our tickets. We entered the park just as they let everyone into the whole park. We really didn’t know our way around or anything. We did pretty well, but I think we’ll have a much better idea of what we are doing next time.

The kids started out with the family slide. The person riding down with them was just someone else in line at the same time. I walked up the look out, and had a view of their slide. They didn’t wait long.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/IMG_0052.jpg

I suggested the kids ride the slides in the morning for shorter lines, Jacob decided to do that, but Hannah wasn’t interested in any more slides. We decided to split up for a bit. Jacob on the slides, Hannah in the main pool/wave pool. She played there for a bit, but what she really wanted to do was ride the lazy river. So after a bit we headed over there.

I mentioned a new camera at the beginning of the trip report. Well here it is – a waterproof one!

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/camera.jpg

We had taken disposable water proof cameras on a trip to Florida a few years back & the kids had loved them! I found a digital camera for underwater or above before we left! We had fun with the camera in the lazy river.

Hannah was happy to have her brother to beat up on.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/IMG_0076.jpg

Pretty soon they stopped using their rafts. I told them to smile, this is what I got.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/IMG_0078.jpg

Then they took off, promising to wait at a specific entrance for me.
I relaxed taking in the nice scenery, and enjoyed my trip along the lazy river.

The water park was definately fun! I enjoyed it more than I expected too. The kids loved it!

They thought they were funny too. We have used the single use cameras before - ones that say water proof on them, and they came out well. The kids just use them up too quickly.

It was a lot of fun! They have a little kids area too, but we didn't really check that out.

After our relaxing ride, it was lunch time. We went to the main restaurant which had typical counter service meals: Burgers, chicken nuggets, fries. We had a locker, and stopped there before & after lunch to pick up Hannah’s supplies. Her sugar level was a tiny bit low, so she had a little of my soda to compensate.

After lunch we sat and rested for a bit. We found a quiet, less crowded spot in the sun.

Our plan next was to swim with sharks!

This display made us wonder if that was a good plan!

Waiting in line.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/IMG_0099.jpg

They bring one group at a time up to the front for instructions. Then they let that group into the water. It’s a straight swim across a short lagoon. I think the water is about 8 to 10 feet deep. Too deep to stand in, though there are some places to stop (large rocks below the surface). Not too deep though, so that you can see the sharks and fish. The water is very cold!!! Jacob took off while Hannah and I adjusted to the temp and got our masks and snorkels sorted out.

The beginning is shallow enough to stand in to get your gear sorted, then it drops to the standard depth.

It was cool to see everything, but so cold! It was a fairly short distance, and we took our time looking around at everything. Hannah was fairly close to me most of the swim, but Jacob was busy taking photos & looking at everything. When Hannah & I finished we were waiting for Jacob. He had stopped and turned around and swam back aways and to the side and everywhere. Well they told us in the directions, not to swim backwards, so I reminded Jacob of this afterwards, and he had taken it literally. As in swimming into the direction of your feet??? :rotfl: Not sure what he was thinking there!

Shark reef looks like a lot of fun. We had planned to go there last June but didn't get around to it. I will have to get a waterproof camera before we give it a try.

I love that you saw Dory!

The crowds at Typhoon Lagoon look light in the photos. Was it crowded or pretty comfortable?

Shark reef was fun! Just way too cold! Also very short!

The crowds were not bad that day in comparison to most parks/days we were there! By mid-day all the chairs in the main sections were full, but there was plenty of space in the outer areas. We only had a couple of real lines that day though Jacob was really the only one riding most of the slides.

The waterproof camera was fun! I noticed after there was often water on the lens, so it does need to be wiped off a lot!

After the sharks, the kids talked me into the family slide! This time there was a line, but it was not too long, maybe 20 minutes, probably the only line any of us had that day. I took the below photo from the line. I didn’t like the slide at all. Lots of cold water dumped on the raft! Then they dunk you at the end!
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/IMG_0133.jpg

Jacob wanted to ride more slides. Hannah wanted to ride the lazy river. So we set a time and a place to meet back up, and then headed off. I was happy to go back to the nice warm lazy river.

More lazy river photos.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/IMG_0144.jpg

We arrived at our meeting spot before Jacob, and went to our locker for our supplies and stuff. Hannah was a little low, so we hung out there and treated her.

We went back to the spot, but missed Jacob as he’d gone to look for us at the locker. We knew he was done riding since his sandals were gone. After a while we did finally find each other. Not as easy without our phones!

For snacks that day we had gotten little mini fresh made donuts. On our way out Hannah and I had frozen lemonade, and I think Jacob bought a soda.

We had fun at the waterpark, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected! I don’t like cold water at all! The lazy river was plenty warm enough for me, and I enjoyed the sharks/fish despite the cold. I was definitely ready to leave before the kids were though! I think it was after 4pm when we left.

We had to wait quite a while for a bus (more than 20 minutes). Added to being still damp!

We had park tickets for this day (once you get past a certain number of days the extra ones are so little more, and I expected to leave the park much earlier). After returning to the room, and showering/ changing we discussed our plan for the evening. We decided to walk over to Epcot for a little bit. While the kids got ready I called Hannah’s doctor and told them about all her lows. She keeps a logbook, and I read off the last few days of numbers. They changed her carb to insulin ratio by a large amount. She had one more low that night, then her numbers evened out for the rest of the trip! I did let her have plenty of snacks but kept an eye on the numbers so they wouldn’t go up too much.

We headed over to Epcot, and wandered around World Showcase. We took our time stopping to look at booths and displays. Jacob ordered some counter service at Tangiere Café, and I order something at Lotus Blossom Cafe. Nothing interested Hannah, she also said she wasn’t hungry and her stomach was bothering her. She ended up getting something back at the Beach Club Marketplace when we returned from the park.

It was after 8pm by the time we made it to Future World.
Lines for some of the rides were LONG!!! Test Track and Soarin’ were well over an hour each (maybe closer to two??)

Other lines were pretty short! We rode Spaceship Earth followed by Finding Nemo!

Another shark experience this day!

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022111dw/IMG_9790.jpg

Hannah browsed the gift shop for a bit. I think she may have bought a bracelet.
Jacob took a cute photo of some Nemo plush or pillows, but I can’t find it.

OK - I found Nemo! Well I found the missing Nemo photo, & if you look at the label on the shelf it actually says I found Nemo.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_0353.jpg

Reflections was going on as we headed out, but it ended at the time we reached the lagoon. Not good, because that meant everyone started walking towards us!!! We were headed toward the back exit between England & France! We managed to make our way out of the park without too much trouble & walked back to the Beach Club. Such a SHORT walk!!!

We settled in for the night to watch TV & get some rest!

We ended up going to DHS this day. It wasn’t our original plan, it was a last minute fill in. We had intended to go to Universal, but with Hannah’s diagnosis, I didn’t want to rely on a car service, or be alone at Universal with the kids. I decided to wait until my Dad arrived for back up, and transportation. So we went to DHS this day, and it was packed!!!! (it was a fantasmic night!)

We took the boat, which was enjoyable!

My Dad joined us part way through the trip and he just sent me his photos. They arrived on a thumb drive today and though he doesn't have a lot that he sent, he has some reallly great ones! He arrived the day after I am reporting now, so perfect timing!

I was planning to update, but I cannot get photobucket to work right now.

I will try again hopefully tomorrow. :sad2:

We arrived at the park, and headed for Toy Story Mania

It was 10:10am. Fastpass return time was for 5:20pm!!! :scared1:

That’s crazy!
We weren’t planning on staying that late, so that caused some reworking of our day!

Jacob and I rode TSM on a previous trip, but this would be Hannah's first time. We kept telling her how great it was!!! She was going to have to wait a bit longer to find out.

Since it was so crowded we just popped inside Chronicles of Narnia. I told the kids not to expect much. Hannah loves these movies, so she was happy with it. And we didn’t have to wait.

It's basically some movie clips and making of, then the stone table, and some displalys of costumes & props.

A bit difficult to photograph because of the glare on the glass, but Hannah took some photos, and I took a few for her in case they came out better with my camera.

Continuing Along-

Since we were right there, we popped in One Man’s Dream. Jacob loves this, but we had to drag Hannah in here.

Despite being dragged in she took some photos and seemed to like it a little.

We have never been to California, but there is some possibiliity we will go next year. If so we will stop & visit Disneyland & California Adventure.

Jacob wanted to see the film at the end, Hannah did not. Since we were planning to split up for a while anyway, Hannah and I headed out, while Jacob waited for the film to start.

Jacob and I have visited the One Man’s Dream before and both have seen the film in the past. It’s an interesting little exhibit. Jacob is interested in animation, and loved reading the history and seeing examples. When we were here previously, he explained some of the information to me, since he was already very familiar with a lot of it.

Hannah and I were planning to catch a show, but we got a little distracted. Would we end up changing our plans?

Yay on getting a letter from Jacob and photobucket being more cooperative! :yay:

Wow at the return time of TSMM!! That is crazy!! :scared1: Though at least there were still times available.

Love all the photos. Thanks for sharing the ones of The Chronicles of Narnia - having seen the movies it's nice to see the pics of the attraction, even though it gets negative reviews.

Can't wait to visit One Man's Dream. Lol, I think you and Hannah will end up changing your plans!

Jacob is now home, so very happy to see him again! He had a lot of fun.

I could not believe the return time! You are right though, we were at least able to get fastpasses, that night there were none left.

Narnia was a little break on a crowded day - something good to escape the heat, but was mainly movie clips & some making of. The time spent watching movies was longer thatn the time they allowed you in the exhibit.

Hannah and I were planning to go to the next Beauty & the Beast show. We had some time before it started though. We walked back to the sorcerer hat. We had passed Chip & Dale on the way in and Hannah wanted to meet them. I checked the times guide, and they were scheduled to return in a couple of minutes. We hung around to wait for them. When they came out we ended up third in line! She loves Chip & Dale! She said they were very excited that they had a pin with one of them on it!

Meeting Donald and Daisy put us past the time we'd planned to head to the theatere. If we rushed to Beauty & the Beast we might be able to see the show, if it wasn't completely full. We reallly felt like we needed a refreshment break though, we had been standing in the hot sun while waiting in line. We ended up having a snack instead of trying to make the show. I really didn't think we'd get good seats if there were even any left. I was little disappointed but we had seen the show before (Hannah twice, me once). We stopped and got popcorn and drinks. We felt much better. We ordered the large popcorn in the souveneir bucket. We had one bucket at home from a previous trip that we use all the time for popcorn. We wanted to collect a few more this trip.

Here is our DHS popcorn bucket-

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_1098.jpg

After our break we decided to try to reach Jacob and see if he was ready to meet back up. It was only a little earlier than planned, and I had come up with a new strategy for our day that I wanted to run by the kids.

We wandered in the nearby Princess shop outside Ariel. Hannah bought some gifts for friends (and herself) while I waited for Jacob to return my text / call.

Notice the mickey head in the center of the crown, I thought that was a cute place for a hidden Mickey-

Jacob replied from nearby, and we met back up.

Next - Jacob's adventures on his own
Then - A reworked plan

We went to a local Hot Air Balloon Festival yesterday, thought I would share some photos.

I took Hannah and a friend of hers-
I don't think she appreciated my taking photos. :confused3

Such a teenager she has become.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/2011Balloonfest/IMG_5636.jpg

There were only about 3 rides they had any interest in. But the girls manged to hang at the midway and craft booths & such most of the night.

I went to check out the balloons-

Two ballons took off somewhere else and flew over the festival. That was new.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/2011Balloonfest/IMG_5665.jpg

About 10 tethered balloons ride up and down giving tethered rides. I'd like to try that sometime, but there was a super long line last night. I stuck with photos.

I brought the DSLR and practiced with it.

They did have fireworks, but for some reason they were not very impressive. Much shorter than last year, and really just not much going on. I could not tell the end by the fireworks, only because they stopped.

I think I have become a fireworks snob! :snooty:

I have noticed lately (last night & July 4th) that I am not as impressed with local fireworks lately, but love the ones at Disney. I love seeing the castle (or world showcase) and hearing the music. Disney turns their fireworks into a story. I tried sneaking my headphones on July 4th, and I enjoyed the show more. But despite it being a very nice display, I was just not into it.

Last night I didn't have headphones, but could have used them! A couple sat behind me, quite close just before the fireworks and the man was loudly telling the story of a friend who passed away. :scared1: Way too loud for a private conversation, and not firework appropriate either! I turned around and stared right at them, and he trailed off as I turned back to the show. They were giggling over my look, but they were quiet after that. :rolleyes1

Yay on meeting Chip and Dale! I love all the pics of Hannah with them :thumbsup2

You sure met a lot of characters - love the pics of Donald and Daisy as well. Oh no on missing Beauty and the Beast but like you said you had seen it before and there's always next time.

Love the pics of the jewellery with the hidden Mickeys.

Sounds like you had fun at the Hot Air Balloon Festival. You got some great shots and lol at the fireworks not being the same! You just can't beat Disney!

Chip & Dale are two of her favorites (though she has many favorites)!

I thought that was a cool spot in the crown, I didn't notice it right away either.

I will just have to go back to Disney to see fireworks.

What was Jacob doing while Hannah and I were busy meeting characters and snacking on popcorn? popcorn::

This was his first time being able to be independent & do his own thing in a Disney park. He was so excited about this. Now Hannah did not want to ride Tower of Terror or Rock’n’roller coaster, so I thought he would ride those. I would have loved to ride them with him, but was not yet ready to leave Hannah on her own, and it didn’t seem as much fun if we each rode solo. I guess Jacob felt the same way, because he ended up saying he didn’t want to ride alone. I also suggested he ride Catastrophe Canyon as neither Hannah or I wanted to ride.

Instead he just wandered around the park – soaking in the atmosphere and taking some photos. He loves Star Tours and was disappointed it was still closed during our trip. If it had been open, he might have spent his entire time on it. :yoda:

Heading over to star tours first -

OK, all caught up. Wow...the Wild Africa Trek. All I can say is it looks amazing!!!! What an experience! I think you would really enjoy the tour! I know you like seeing all the animals. If they hadn't opened this Jacob and I probably would have gone on Wild by Design, since he is old enough for that one. But it was so nice that Hannah could go on this one too!

Jacob can't wait to go on the Keys to the Kingdom tour when he is 16!

Ok, so after our unexpectedly late fast pass time, we reshuffled our DHS plan for the day. The new plan was …..

To leave

We had planned to have lunch at pizza planet & dinner at Beaches & Cream at our resort. I decided to flip them.

We stopped for a photopass pic on our way out.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/Photo0227FourBySix.jpg

Jacob has been taller than me for a couple of years now.

Then we headed to the boat ramp, where we just missed the boat.

We could see another on its way though.

Our ride back…

Hannah took this one of the pirate ship.

Another Hannah photo- Its very grainy since she zoomed on the ipod.
I think she liked seeing the word friendship.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_1059.jpg

The Yacht Club-
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_9836.jpg

I reallly like this section because it looks like a lighthouse. I wonder what is on the inside.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_9837.jpg

We headed to Beaches and Cream. It was pretty crowded inside, but I think a lot of people were only having ice cream, so the wait was only about 10 minutes.

I know that Jacob ordered the hamburger and Hannah ordered the Turkey club because that is what they get all the time. I had the beef au jus. It was not the best I’ve had, but it was good enough (average). The ice cream looked really good, but I ended up being too full for a fancy sundae, and just got a dish of ice cream.

Its pretty crowded inside, not a lot of room, but they have mirrors on the side walls, which make it seem bigger. There’s a long counter (L-shaped) plus booths and tables. We were at a table not far from the door. Right in front of the Juke box actually. Jacob was fascinated by the jukebox, he kept trying to get it to play a song. Finally it did play the one he wanted, but not sure if that was something he did. I kind of thought it was for show, and just played a set group of music, but maybe not. ???

There's a really fun & exciting atmosphere! I liked the theme, the colors, and the decorations. We particularly liked the jukebox! They had flashing lights on the ceiling and they went off several times while we were there. Once for someone’s birthday, and twice when the kitchen sink was ordered. They make a big deal out of it when the kitchen sink is ordered! It starts a lot of conversations between tables as everyone is commenting on it.

We did enjoy are lunch here, and I would love to go back for just ice cream sometime when I am not full from lunch. I love ice cream! :lovestruc

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_9839.jpg

The kids took off as soon as they were done to go to the room, rest, and change for the pool. They left me to pay the bill. After taking care of that I headed out, I didn’t get far when I heard someone calling. It was the hostess from Beaches & Cream with Jacob’s hat. A new Mickey hat he had bought that morning, and he had left it at the table. :sad2: On the way back to the room I met Jacob heading back to down to see if his hat was still there.

After a quick rest, we headed to Stormalong Bay. We planned to hang out there for a while. I was going to go in the lazy river with Hannah, but the water was a bit cool for me. I then went to find an available hot tub but all 3 were completely full. I ended up just sitting in a chair, which didn’t last long anyways, because the kids decided they’d rather be in the less crowded pool near our room than Stormalong bay. Hannah felt that her sugar level might be low, which it was a bit, so she treated that and we sat at SB until she felt better, then headed to the quiet pool, which had only a few other guests, so plenty of space! We probably should have tried Stormalong Bay at an earlier or later time of day, but we actually never did make it back there. The kids didn’t seem to have much interest in returning. It just wasn’t what we expected, and being a busy season it was a bit too crowded for us. We went to the pool near our room from then on.

After our afternoon at the pool, we headed back to the boat to return to DHS.

I walked around the dock taking photos while we waited for the boat.

Thanks! I liked that Yeti best too, he was a good choice! It was such a relief to have her try new things, her friends had dragged her on some things at local places, so that helped.

Love the PP pic of the 3 of you. Wow at Jacob being taller then you. My little sister is taller then me and she's still growing!

I'm glad you guys enjoyed Beaches and Cream. We are hoping to eat there on our trip so am looking forward to an ice cream and having some fun with the Jukebox!

It's a shame you guys did not get to spend much time at SAB. Great pics from the dock :thumbsup2

I really have to look up to Jacob. My little sister is the opposite. Hannah will be taller than her soon! My brothers are really tall though.

The ice cream was good. If you can figure out the jukebox, send Jacob directions. It was fun just to flip through it though. :thumbsup2

Great update! I wanted to get over to Beaches and Cream, but we didn't make it this trip. One day when the kids are a bit older, I want to order the kitchen sink to see if we can finish it off??? :)

The kitchen sink was very impressive in person! It was fun to see them bring it out. They make a big announcement too!

Sorry, I don't have an update. :upsidedow I hope to get one done in the next couple of days, but haven't started yet. Though the pictures for the rest of this day are sorted and ready to go, so that should help!

Finally getting an update in

We are in the hurricane watch zone, so we will probably lose power at some point tomorrow.
We are as prepared as we can be.
Looks like we'll start to experience heavy winds by dawn, and expect the storm will have past by midnight.
We should be safe from flooding, which is a big concern in our town for tomorrow.

The kids were supposed to start school on Tuesday, but they've already postponed it a day. We will see when they go back, since bus routes, electicity, and use of schools as shelters, may cause an even later start.

I hope everyone else on the east coast is alright.
Stay Safe!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We arrived back at DHS a little before 5pm.

The Magic of Animation Building and Honey I shrunk the kids playground would be closing the soonest. Hannah has taken a photo with the ant at the playground both previous trips and we had planned to take another. It was a bit crowded though, with much younger kids. She ended up not wanting to wait to get in the picture, and just took a photo of the ant.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_9854.jpg

We wanted to see what characters were at Magic of Animation.

Hannah was super excited to find out Lotso was there. She and I waited in line, while Jacob went to find if there was a drawing class starting soon. There wasn’t so he just wandered around playing on the computers.

Hannah met Lotso!

There was a photopass photographer here-

Lotso smelled like strawberries.

Sorcerer Mickey was there too, but there was a really long wait. We will have to meet him some other time.

We went to meet Frozone…

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_9873.jpg

… and Mr. Incredible.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_9878.jpg

Three years ago we met Mr. & Mrs. Incredible here, so it was nice to meet Frozone this time.

As we left the animation building we passed by displays of drawings from Snow White. The kids loved this display and they both stopped to take photos. Jacob is very interested in art and animation, and knows quite a bit about how all the movies were made. He’s always loved to draw, and by the time he was three years old, he could draw better than me!

Here are Jacob’s photos:

If we had more time, we would have liked to take a drawing class, and see the little film with Mushu, since it has been awhile.

We still had some other things we wanted to do though.

And it was time for our Toy Story Mania fastpasses!

First though we were distracted ...

We were distracted by the gift shop-
This is the store with all the artwork.
Hannah took a lot of photos in the store this trip. She would make a good Disser. :thumbsup2
She loves to shop, and would buy as much as possible.
She really liked all the figurines.

OK, I have to admit when I read your update with "Art of Animation" I thought you meant the new resort and maybe you had some inside information or something. LOL. I guess I'm tired and should get to bed. :rolleyes1

Bummer you weren't able to do one of the drawing classes. That has become a new favorite attraction for us. But yay that Hannah got to meet Lotso.

Stay safe with the hurricane approaching!

Stay safe...you will be in our thought and prayers!

Glad Hannah got to meet Lotso. I would have liked to do a drawing class too, but didn't fit it in this trip. Had I know that in about 10 minutes after we left the sky was going to open up and pour we might have waited for the next class.

We love the art store too! Hannah came home with a Rapunzel drawing to hang hang in her bedroom. I just wish I had the money to buy the painting I liked. I think my favorite one was over $1,000....needless to say I didn't get to bring it home. :upsidedow

Yay on Hannah meeting Lotso - am not happy that he will not be there on our trip.

Love the pics of the drawings and the art of animation shop - think I would want to buy everything!

Looking forward to seeing what Jacob bought and I'm finally watching The Incredibles tomorrow!

Very windy here, but we are all fine.
Hoping everyone else is too.
Irene arrived here as a tropical storm.
A constant wind, with more severe gusts throughout.
A big concern was flooding, though not for our house, so hopefully those areas are not too bad.

We still have power (knock on wood), but its not over yet.
We're lucky, 250 thousand customers in RI without it now.
I had wanted to bake something this weekend, and need to do more laundry, but I don't want to start either in case power goes out.
We've had several power drains, and quick on & offs of less than a minute.

 Actually I'm the one who is confused, art of animation is the new resort. Being in the store with the art I forgot the name of the building was Magic of Animation. When I read your post, I knew I had it wrong, but took a minute to think of the right name. Thought of it as I was looking it up. fixing it now. :rotfl:

The art classes we've done before were fun, I hope we can take one another trip. At least we know we can rotate through stuff, since its difficult to do everything in one trip.

So far we are doing ok. Thanks!

Thanks! So far a lot of wind, but we are ok.

Its hard to fit everything in. I hope you can take one another time!
A Rapunzel drawing sounds great, we loved that movie, I'm sure it looks cute in her room.
A lot of the art was so expensive! I know I won't be buying any at that price.

Hope you all stay safe!

I'm sorry Lotso will not be there during your trip, do you know who will?
We actually did not know until we walked in.
The Incredibles / Frozone have been there for a long time.
The spot Lotso was in changes often though.

Hope you enjoy the Incredibles.

It's Winnie the Pooh instead of Lotso and feel a bit meh about it as will be seeing him at 1900 Park Fare and lots of other places as well.

It's on tomorrow - I hope I enjoy watching it as well :)

Catching up! It's been a really long time since I've been here!

Wow, Jungle Cruise really does look so different in the dark! I've read about that being a good way to ride it, but I guess it never crossed my mind to actually do it while we were there. That might make it nice and creepy! Hopefully, not too creepy!

That must've been so scary to see Hannah's level drop below 60. When I fainted once at the doctor's office, they took my levels and it was crazy low (I was in HS so I don't remember the numbers). They gave me a small cup of soda, waited a few minutes, took it again, and BAM, it shot up so quickly. I couldn't believe how quickly my sugar levels drop and rise (I'm just hypoglycemic, so I have to carry sugary things with me too although soda works the best because I can just drink it). I keep chocolate in my desk at work too because sometimes I'll suddenly feel so weakened, and I'm in the middle of teaching! I asked Howard for the Hershey's drops for my birthday just for that purpose (we're saving for annual passes, so we're kinda skipping presents this year).

I love Jacob's panorama shots in AK! Those are amazing!!! I don't remember AK at all, as I've only been there once a few years after it opened. I can't wait to see everything in real life.

I love this: In Jacob’s words “Better to think you might be low & have something for it, than to know you are low & not be able to do anything”. I wish he could have been one of my students!!! Is it weird that I <3 your kids?

This tour looks like so much fun! What are you clipping your harnesses to? I saw the ones from the bridge, but is it the same when you had to clip for the hippos? Haha, never mind! I saw the harness track with the alligators! Oh wow, this looks like SUCH a cool tour! I showed many pictures to Howard, but then I looked at the price. Probably a little too steep for right now especially because we're dying to do the Keys to the Kingdom. With the planned APs, we'll at least save some money on that too.

How awesome that Hannah conquered Everest! I'm a little scared of it. Okay, maybe more than just a little! I'm so afraid of potentially getting dizzy because I read some people did. But yay she got to pick such cute stuff afterwards! That hat is the greatest! I JUST saw it on another DISer's report today (catching up everywhere)!

Did the lazy river have any sprays or waterfalls? The one at our timeshare has all those waterfalls and random shots of water, so we would get off of the float to walk along the side and cover our faces to some degree. Haha, I hate water on my face! It makes my eyes feel weird with my contacts.

Cute! I've never seen Chip/Dale and Donald/Daisy in those costumes before!

Wow, it must've been so fun for Jacob to walk around DHS by himself! I still haven't done anything by myself yet, haha, and I'm 26! Going with Howard by ourselves for part of our last trip was really fun though.

That is disappointing that its a character you can see so many other places.

Jacob would have loved to have been in your class!

I would love to go on the keys to the kingdom tour. I'm looking forward to doing that one someday, but I'm waiting for at least Jacob to reach the minimum age. Maybe in 2013. We had a much lower price for this tour since it had just started. I know it went up a lot after the second month. It was still expensive though.

Hannah really loved Expedition Everest, she wouldn't go near anything like that a couple of years before! There's a difference in the front and the back rows. I forget which is which now, but one is a little more disorienting than the other. When you back up, one of them almost feels like you go upside down.

The lazy river had a few sprays at different points, but they were not too bad. Not too many of them, and they only sprayed over half the river. You could avoid them. Hannah kept trying to push me into them, but when I was on my own, I did a pretty good job of avoiding them.

Jacob had fun on his own throughout the trip. He had a good mix of time on his own & with the family. He is getting very grown up.

I have not had much time to be on here in the last month.
We lost internet for a week after my last post the day of the storm!
Since then I've been super busy with work / overtime, back to school stuff, including open houses, and several dr. appts (routine), family visiting, Hannah's yard sale, and a few other things.

I've also been trying to find some time to be more active, since I spend most of my day at work sitting. I've been walking & a little bit of very slow running. This is actually related to Disney in a couple of ways. This past trip for the first time, I had a lot of leg pain at Disney. It made me realize I'd stopped being active in the last two years.

I'm hoping some of the extra stuff will start to calm down and I can be back on more. More likely it will just get crazier, but I'll try to squeeze some DIS time in anyway!

I want to get back to the trip report & finish it! And it looks like we will probably be spending a weekend in Disney World next February & a weekend in Disneyland sometime in the summer! I'm excited to at least get some Disney time in even if its short.

Next February we are going to visit my Dad & stepMom in Florida. They live in Ft. Lauderdale now but are moving to the Palm Beach / Jupiter area soon. I made air reservations to visit them when the flights went on sale for SW. I booked the flight down into Ft. Lauderdale, but the flight home out of Orlando. :cool1:

I figured I could always change it later if it didn't work out.

I priced flying from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando or renting a car, and they were both more than I expected! I had given up on the Disney plan due to price and feeling guilty over cutting the family visit short, but had been procrastinating changing the flight. :sad2:

My Dad was in town visiting us last week. He asked if we were planning to visit Disney while we were down. He encouraged me to go, and said he would drive us and spend a day or two there with us!!!

So, I am currently planning on a weekend at Disney!!! And at this point airfare has gone up, so it would cost more to change my flight. ;)

We will be there the weekend of the 24-26th and head home on Mon the 27th. (My Birthday!) Right now I have a reservation for an early breakfast at MK on my birthday morning before we leave.

I'm not up to this part in the TR yet, but the Princess half marathon took place over are last trip. We saw a lot of the participants from the race. I learned there is also a 5K race which is 3 miles, and can be walked or part walking/running. I am around the minimum speed! I'm planning on signing up for the 5K for our trip! Its a great motivator to get me moving!

No idea where we will stay, how many days of park time, or anything else!

One more thing - the Kids have NO Idea! Only my Dad knows about the plan! It was discussed as possilble in front of Hannah, but she has no idea about the flights. I have to figure out when I'm going to tell them. I almost told Jacob a couple of days ago! I'm not very good at keeping a secret! Jacob's birthday is coming up, then Christmas, so those are possibilities. I thought of waiting until we are ready to go, but I think they'd like some time to plan and pack accordingly.

As for Disneyland, Jacob is planning to look at colleges in California, so there's no way we can be that close to Disneyland and not visit! I've never been there or anywhere out west! That trip is still in the pre pre planing stages!

:woohoo: on having another trip in the works!!! How exciting!

I love that you will be celebrating your birthday during your trip. You sure have plenty of opportunities coming up to tell the kids.

If Jacob is thinking of looking at colleges in California then of course a trip to Disneyland has to be in the works ;)

Btw I thought of Jacob when seeing the Jukebox at Beaches and Cream.

OK, since we’ve probably all forgotten where I was-
Tues 02/22/11 Day 4, spent at DHS & Beach Club

It was 6pm & we were going to use our Toy Story Mania fastpasses!
The ones we’d gotten around 10/10:30 in the morning!

It was Hannah’s first time riding!

Even with fastpasses there was still a wait, and the kids took some pics in the line.

These ones are all Jacob’s-
the kids photos were all taken from their itouches.

She was a little disappointed that my score was higher than hers. I pointed out that she was more accurate, and I was just shooting as much as possible.

Hannah was not quite sure what to think of it-

Plus if they could they’d eat nothing but pizza all trip!

Hannah really loved her dessert. Rice Krispy treats are one of her favorites! What could be better than a Mickey shaped one! While ordering I had decided to surprise her with a souvenir cup! Its in the photo on the left. (Jacob had gotten the refillable resort mug). She loved it! Those aliens are so cute! They gave it to us empty, and we didn't put the drink in, so it would stay dry to carry around.

The CMs here were super nice & friendly. The one who took our order was talking to me about my pins, and another walking around upstairs cleaning tables stopped to chat with us too.

After dinner the kids wanted to play a few arcade games.

When we walked out of pizza planet we saw Lightening McQueen & Mater. They had just arrived and they didn’t have a line yet, so we headed over.
Hannah was excited to meet them! Jacob wanted to do a few things on his own, but I convinced him to get in the photo too!

They had photopass there as well-

Love the photos of TSMM - it sure is a great ride!

The umbrella didn't work when I stood under it.

Yay on Hannah getting a souvenir cup - I think it looks cute as well.

I'm glad you managed to convince Jacob to get into the McQueen and Mater shot as they came out well. He seems to have got the solo touring bug! I got to experience a bit of that on our trip so can understand why he loves it so much

Thanks!

I'm sorry the umbrella didn't work when you were there. :headache:

Jacob definately enjoyed being able to spend a bit of time on his own. He did this a lot over the trip. I don't think I've ever really had much solo time in Disney! I have often thought of a quick weekend trip on my own, but can never justify the expense.

After dinner we split up-
Jacob wanted to buy a few things he had seen during the day, and head back to the room to rest & relax (watch tv & use the computer). Unfortunately some of the shops were closed, so he wasn’t able to get everything. He wasn’t able to get a Mike/Monster’s inc shirt he had seen earlier. He did buy a poster at the art shop, and a Pixar shirt (with the lamp on it). The poster is hanging on his wall! And he wears the Pixar shirt all the time!

After that he headed back to the resort.
Some photos Jacob took on his way out.

Hannah was definitely not ready to call it a night. She wanted to stop at the Toy Story character stop & see Voyage of the Little Mermaid. We had fastpasses for VOTLM.

We had a long wait (maybe 45 minutes at toy story).
We were told early on that it would only be Buzz though.

There is a lot to do in the line.
She tried out Buzz’s spaceship.

And strapped to a rocket.

She met Zurg.
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_9907.jpg

She got stuck in Stinky Pete’s box.

And Rode the luggage carriers.

And Finally she made it to Andy’s room. Where we met Buzz!

The photopass photographer was very nice & friendly. He asked for my camera to take photos with both of us.

Of course he also took photopass pics!

Buzz gets a thumbs up! She really enjoyed meeting him.

We then headed over to Voyage of the Little Mermaid. We just missed a show, but were let right into the inside waiting area, we were the second ones in. We were really tired and there was no way I could stand for the whole wait time, so we sat down along the side of the waiting area. The couple who came in before us must have been tired too, because they then sat down. By the time the show was starting, I looked up and noticed almost everyone was sitting. The end of a long Disney day for everyone. Hannah and I chatted and talked over plans for the next few days. It was a fairly relaxing wait.

We enjoyed the show, which we had seen before, but not in years.

We then slowly made our way to the entrance taking photos. The parks look so different at night. The sorcerer’s hat was lit up!

We both took photos on our way out-

I took a LOT of photos to get a few good ones.

We stopped for another photopass picture so we would have one at night time.

Hannah pointed Pluto out to me! We both thought he was cute!
He was wagging his tail!

We had a long wait for the boat. While we were waiting we could hear Fantasmic going on in the park. I had asked the kids if they had wanted to see the show, and they had not been interested. But waiting for the boat, Hannah changed her mind and was suddenly interested in seeing the show. She wanted to come back on Sunday night to see it. I told her we would wait & see. We didn’t make it back though.

We rode the boat back to the resort. A quick photo of all the lights outside at the back of the Beach Club.

Jacob was back in the room relaxing.

He was excited about his purchases:

A Tomorrow land Poster:

And a Pixar shirt:
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm277/kathleen27photos/022211dw/IMG_6197.jpg

It was almost 10pm by the time we were back to the room, I tried to get the kids to settle down & get some sleep. Being teenagers they would stay up all night, and sleep through the morning. But I wanted them to get up in time to make the morning show at MK.

Great nighttime shots of the hat - it sure looks different all lit up.

I loved the neon Pluto.

Great Pixar shirt! Lol at the comment about Jacob and Hannah staying awake through the night and sleeping through the morning! I used to be the same as a teenager. Hope you make the morning MK show.

TSM and Pizza Planet-sounds like a great night!

Jacob found some nice souvenirs. I love those attraction posters-we have the Splash Mountain and Jungle Cruise ones in our basement.

I'm know I was the same way as a teenager, but it was frustrating for me since I now get up early for work.

He really liked the posters! (so do I). He wanted a Big Thunder Mountain one, but didn't see one.

I am going to try to get some updates in over the Holiday weekend!
I am really looking forward to having 4 days off, though I know they'll still be busy!!!
I am looking forward to the next day at MK, but have to start sorting photos and uploading them.
