The Japan Times just posted this article (http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110313n1.html) about the Resort. It's going to be closed for about 10 days (~ March 22nd).
tiggertabi has also posted about this in the other thread.
EDIT:
They updated their site and now says that the Resort is closed and the opening dates are undetermined.

Wow. I am glad everyone was okay at the park. I can't believe they had to sleep in attractions but how nice of Disney to make sure everyone had blankets - even in the wake of tragedy, they maintain that sort of attitude.

That long of a closure is pretty unprecedented for any Disney resort in the world right? Highlights the severity of the situation in Japan right now.

Definitely. But this is a practical decision more than anything else -- people simply can't travel, even if they were unaffected by the disaster and want to. Train lines are shut down, airports are closed...
I daresay it might be cheaper to shut the resort right now than to keep it open for the small number of people who might show up.

I am sure they are going to want to examine each attraction and all the biuldings, etc for damage and ensure safe operation

before the earthquake i had begun to toy with the idea of a big family trip to japan in august, rather than orlando (as i'm very aggravated with WDW's ever rising prices and falling value for money)...
now i am determined.....if TDR reopens and travel to japan is permitted (assuming the nuclear danger passes), we will go there to support the japanese economy and people...

Walt Disney Co. on Thursday said it had "temporarily suspended all its administrative and store operations in Tokyo" as a result of last week's powerful earthquake and tsunami.
It wasn't immediately clear how many employees were affected....

:thumbsup2 for me too.
We were actually planning a girls' trip over there next year. We will likely do Orlando instead and do Tokyo for the following year, depending on how this all plays out.
The footage is nothing short of heartbreaking. My heart goes out to all who are affected. The workers at the nuclear plants are absolute heroes.

I think what disney is doing is wise, with the threat of radiation and power shortages I mean what can they do. I think once the Power Plant gets under control we will see Japan start recovering. It is sad that the devastation of the natural disaster is losing out to the power plant failure. I hope their peopel are getting the support the need.

I can't agree with you more! I am definately going to help stimulate thier economy. I've lived through many earthquakes, driven to areas with a large amount of smog/congestion, I use a microwave everyday, I've flown in planes quite a bit, so a little nuclear radiation won't hurt. :rolleyes1 I was planning in going in 2013 anyway, but maybe sooner.
DisneySea is on my bucket list. :goodvibes

I am hoping we hear something soon regarding the resort. Our trip is still on to Yokohama/Tokyo arriving April 6 with a one day visit to Disneysea on April 10th.

Me too. We are planning on being there on the 15th of the month of April. We have been tracking this, so keep in touch with and I will do the same if either of us hears any info.

I have been reading on several websites that the infrastructure is the main reason for the shutdown- it is very difficult to get from one place to another via the train and rail network that so many rely on- and the rolling blackouts for energy conservation sake.
The WHO has said it is still safe to go but we are still debating it right now, as my allergies are so bad here, and with the mold that is growing there due to the flooding, it might not be a good idea.
Poor people. Breaks your heart.

based on international reports, the radiation problem, including in the tokyo area, is quite serious...

I am trying to get there in 2013 because I am also touring China and DLHK. I figure since I am over there, I might as well get to Disneyland Tokyo too.
I cannot imagine what those people are going through. My heart goes out to them

We've been watching the Japanese networks at my workplace...my boss speaks Japanese as well as Korean so we have been getting reports from both places.
Radiation seems bad on the reports but hopeful.

Ikspiar (Downtown Disney) opened back up today the 28th. For some reason they did not post this information on the official site. Found this out through google and twitter.

I have to make my decision by the end of the month, based on reservations at hotels and such.
PM me if you catch anything. I have been watching the sites and reading some of the information being posted but I cannot make my plans without a definite yes or no.
It isn't the radiation or other stuff- I just don't want to go and it not be open that day due to blackouts.
Thanks!:)

The TDR website says that once they know the reopening date, they will post it on their website by 8pm 5 days before that date. So if you don't see any info 5 days before your planned visit day, ...
