Welcome once again to the ABCs of Trip Reporting; An Alphabetical Approach to Disney Touring. (That was the long version of my title that won’t fit on the space for a title.) Here we are… ready to start another thread for our Ladies’ Trip Extravaganza!! Of the 12 days, we have made it all the way through Day 1 and a half. So that right there ought to give you a hint of just how fast this thread moves. OK, so we have a long, long, long way to go, but this thread does move at a pretty quick clip. We may not get through the content quickly, but there is a lot of utterly GREAT chatter. So, I can’t promise this tale will be told in a hurry, but I can promise, updates a couple times a week, LOTS of great company, occasional dubious joking around, support and listening ears in life’s tougher moments, a lot of chatter about who likes cabbage and who doesn’t, gigantic cheers for you when something good happens, pictures of our adventures last summer and a whole bunch of commentary of all manner of stuff. We welcome anyone and everyone, and encourage your participation! (Lurkers, we know how to find you…death by tickling is a tough way to go!) And who knows, contests with some really cool prizes can pop up at any time!
If you’re new around here, and just joining in, you can find the first thread here:
HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2556524)
But the quick version of our introductions is:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/BelleBattaliononTSM.jpg
From left to right: LeeAnn ,extraordinary mom of 5, wife to a pastor, elected school board member of the 2nd largest district in Oregon, and all-around busy lady- beautiful in every way; Mary (Maroo to most of us), angel in DISguise who pours her life out over and over every day, lover of life, servant to the core. Me, Liesa, mom to 5 amazing kids, wife to an all-around great guy, missionary in Central Asia until last month for 10 years, and instigator of the trip.
If you are interested in the myriad of hopes and dreams resting on this week, or getting to know us better, you can read it all
HERE, (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2166702), and HERE, (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2386737), and HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2482610).
Now don’t be shy! Let us know what you are thinking, encourage us, let us get to know you, just feel free to share whatever’s on your mind. It’ll only be as fun as you make it- remember, as with all things in life: You’ll get out of this, as much as you put into it. Until Next Time…
Have a Magical Day!

What's that smell? Is that... cabbage?

I'm here! Because I wanted to let you have the last word on your own thread at the bottom of Page 250 - I'll post my late comments here:
1. Please sign me up for the non-cabbage club - of course that is saying that cole slaw doesn't count. I like cole slaw that has a good dressing (not bland).
2. There are reasons lots of ladies don't like cabbage. I'm sure I don't need to spell it out.
3. I believe there is alot of Kim Chee smelling around in Okinawa, too. At least you think so. It is hard to tell whether it is the open sewer running under the sidewalk or the fragrance of tonight's dinner as you walk around.
4. Hmmm R&C sounds so inviting, but I have to admit, your Bangers and Mash just doesn't make me hungry. I would probably go for the Fish and Chips with vinegar on it, but not if it is so greasy:confused3
5. Not a huge breakfast eater, so I think your B&B for me would have been the marmalade on whatever bread or muffin they had.
7. Sorry your drink was lacking - not much of a dragon, huh? I'm not sure what else they could bring you to add to that - if it was already too sweet - the schnapps was the only thing with any kick to it.
Wow, I'm tired now - I don't usually have quite as much to say! I'm really looking forward to our meet!!! Jim put brand new tires on my van so I'm ready to speed right up there - (okay, not too much speed) Can't wait to see you! I will call you soon for more details! I'm just crazy busy lately, but it sounds like you are, too!
Present and accounted for!

Ya'll are crackin' me up! But I have to get dinner on, eaten, cookies made and a "welcome wagon" visit to our brand new neighbors. I hear tell he's an Oregon State Policeman- that's great! He can keep an eye on our neighborhood dealers that hang out at the State Park that runs along the river.
Anywhooooo, back with replies later this evening :)

Page 2! :)
(ok, that rhymes.)
So...lurkers...now is a great time to join in - while you really haven't missed anything, right?
"servant to the core" might be the nicest thing anyone has said about me.:hug::hug:
What is up with the fact that you guys each have 5 kids and I have one dog??? :rotfl2::rotfl2:
In all seriousness...I owe you guys an update...and I am honestly not going to be able to do one for a bit...Because I am leaving for DISNEY in less than 48 hours!!!! Woo Hoo!
If you want to follow LIVE - feel free to sign on my twitter account - www.twitter.com/maroo268. I am also going to try to link my Facebook, too, for any of my FB friends out there - but I am planning to make them the same exact updates - probably just a quick note of where we are and a picture attached.
And when I get back - I can concentrate on this TR again! :faint:

You little sneak! Do you like cabbage?
No cabbage for me. The only cabbage I will eat is in egg rolls? Right there is cabbage in there??? I would rather not know.
Growing up we had this little place at the beach I loved until we went in there to eat on St. Patrick's day P.U. Corned beef and cabbage. Blech
Hey, look at this shiny new thread. Love what you've done with the place!
What's that smell? Is that... cabbage?

Hey, look at this shiny new thread. Love what you've done with the place!
What's that smell? Is that... cabbage?
If it were cabbage, there'd be no doubt whatsoever!
So whatcha think?? Like the new pad?
I'm here! Because I wanted to let you have the last word on your own thread at the bottom of Page 250 - I'll post my late comments here:
Looks like I'll have to go back one more time for that!! :lmao:
You're NEVER late with comments!
1. Please sign me up for the non-cabbage club - of course that is saying that cole slaw doesn't count. I like cole slaw that has a good dressing (not bland).
Ooooh, YES! Cole is GREAT! Reminds me I've not made that for a very long time. I always make mine with pineapple and a bit of celery seed.
2. There are reasons lots of ladies don't like cabbage. I'm sure I don't need to spell it out.
The only reason I can think of, is that we have to cook it? :confused3;)
3. I believe there is alot of Kim Chee smelling around in Okinawa, too. At least you think so. It is hard to tell whether it is the open sewer running under the sidewalk or the fragrance of tonight's dinner as you walk around.
:lmao::lmao::lmao: Kind of like the rats running around Bangkok- vermin or dinner??
4. Hmmm R&C sounds so inviting, but I have to admit, your Bangers and Mash just doesn't make me hungry. I would probably go for the Fish and Chips with vinegar on it, but not if it is so greasy:confused3
They used to serve them with newspaper to soak up the grease, but sadly no more. :sad2:
5. Not a huge breakfast eater, so I think your B&B for me would have been the marmalade on whatever bread or muffin they had.
I can be ONLY if it's a BIG one worth eating- around 10:30.
7. Sorry your drink was lacking - not much of a dragon, huh? I'm not sure what else they could bring you to add to that - if it was already too sweet - the schnapps was the only thing with any kick to it.
Hmmm.... not sure what happened to #6---- I think you must really BE tired! :lmao:
Definitely needed a bit more "fire in its breath"! I could of about a dozen ANYTHINGS that might have made it better- all of them distilled.
Yes, that was quite a the chatty business you just undertook! Good for you!
Tammie! I sure am too!! I am going to start calling some wineries up the street tomorrow to see what I can find out! NO! Please don't get a ticket on your way- although, that would certainly make some hilarious TR fodder. I am incredibly busy- this week was nutso. Tomorrow even more so! IEP meeting, Dr. appt., English dancing, etc...

Yes, there happens to be cabbage in egg rolls, but MAN are they tasty! Especially with a bunch of hoisin sauce! :cloud9:
Too bad your childhood happy place was tainted by something that is so good! Nuthin' better than an Irish (probably not) meal. Did they have the soda bread with it? If not, that was your problem right there!

It felt like seeing a Glenn update and trying to get in the first Judy count! :goodvibes
And as a service to your other guests I did refrain from replying again on the first page to leave more spots open for others...
But, one thing I was wondering: Why do you keep your TOC always so short? Mine still works and I must have over 40 links in it already...

I have decided I am going to do a LIVE Trip Report for this upcoming trip! We all know it takes me FOREVER to do a real one...so I am going to try this for this trip! :)
We leave tomorrow (Friday the 11th) and will be in the parks on Sunday through Friday.
My plan (and this is the first time I have attempted this!) is to have simultaneous updates on my Twitter account and FB account.
I have an iPhone app that will let me upload a picture and short status at one time to both. These will show up as a short comment and a link to a picture. Unfortunately, you will have to click on the link to the picture - even on the FB statuses.
At the end of each day, I hope to upload all of the pics from that day to my FB (album called Disney Spring Break 2011) so that you can see them all without clicking a bunch of links.
Of course, I will be taking more "real" pictures with the camera and such that I will post later on some sort of TR, too!
If you want to follow my Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/maroo268
If you want to follow my FB: http://www.facebook.com/maroo - Please, on all friend requests, put your user name so that I know who I am friending. :)
We are hoping to have a great time!! :)

I'll bet it was simply the most exciting part of your day. Well, that or having an outburst in your courtroom. Both could be right on par with one another. :lmao:

But, one thing I was wondering: Why do you keep your TOC always so short? Mine still works and I must have over 40 links in it already...
I guess to keep it looking tidy?? I dunno, maybe to keep the readers from being overwhelmed? :confused3 I had ideas as first to use one section per run through the alphabet---- that didnt' work so well...
I loved your introduction, but the text above confused me a bit... Kind How could you have been filling a whole thread of TR if you just returned last month... ;)

Well...yeah.
Crowd scores...for our current plans are as follows...
Sunday - MK - 8.6 out of 10
Monday - AK - 8.9 out of 10
Tues - EP - 8.7 out of 10
Wed - ?? Prob part MK (9.0) and park AK (9.1)
Thurs - DHS - 5.3 - YEP!!! FIVE point 3! :)
Fri - DHS - with a whooping score of 5.0!! :)
The average crowd scores for our days for the parks are as follows...
MK - 9.35 (good grief!!)
EP - 8.8
DHS - 8.0
AK - 9.1 (:faint:)

she doesnt really like it all cooked like that, so i make a special version of corned beef for her that is actually a little better than the traditional...for most. along with the traditional as well.
get your corned beef and bake it in the oven with the seasoning package on the top side/fat side up.
with about a half inch or so of water in it.
i usually bake about 3 or 3 1/2 hours.
when done take out, trim off the top thin layer of fat or any fat that is in the way.
fire up the grill.
lather cooked meat with choice of bbq sauce (i use my own homemade which i have to say is some of the best around:thumbsup2)
keep applying bbq sauce every time you turn it and make sure to get some good crispys on it.
about 15 minutes total of flipping back and forth.
slice thinly and enjoy
we usuallyeat a whole package of the meat between the two of us it is so good and tasty.

Still playing catch up! I saw a Jordan sighting, was touched by bakers character breakfast, am intrigued by the additional magic heading his way, loved the christmas fun of gingerbread houses, cookie baking, the regency ball, and of course your epcot adventures.
Thanks also to everybody who had such nice things to say after my barely literate ;) announcement of my transplant. For those not on my thread....a brief update is that last Thursday I had to have some "repair work" done. A tube connecting the kidney to the bladder had "sprung a leak" and they had to go back in and fix it. The good news is that my labs Tuesday were all good. Some are even in the normal ranges in a normal person, the rest are all heading in the right direction. So thank you for all of the prayers and well wishes and if you could spare one more, could you please think of the family of the man whose kidney I am now using. What I know is he was from the Chicago area and younger than me. And I know when he was lost his family put aside their grief long enough to pass along this great gift to me and however other many people.
Still Catching up on other threads but hope to be back on track soon!

I have some bad news, and some FANTASTARONI news....
The bad news is that we have reached the "danger zone" of going over our internet time. We will have to be very, very wise, and very disciplined about only using our remaining small amount of time to check e-mail, and for Mike to keep applying for jobs. Sooooooooooooooo, unless I get out to Starbucks (not likely as we really don't even have the means to get a coffee - thank goodness my wonderful hubby replaced the espresso machine pump and we can do it at home), or the library, I won't be on much until the 16th. BOOOOO!
But, the most amazing thing happened to me today. I hear a knock at the door, and one of our neighbors hands me a package. Huh???? I wasn't expecting anything!!
I open it up, and
OMGosh!!! It's a NEW CAMERA!!!!!
You all know ours broke a couple of months ago, and I've been wishing for one ever since.
It's a really cool little POS Cannon 3100? Which will totally tide me over with its over 12 pixels until I can get that DLSR that I lust over in everyone else's TRs. You know who you are!
I THINK, although I'm totally not even sure, that it was sent by a former financial supporter who wanted to thank me for sending some video (well, I now know which camera I'm going to use to do it with!) for a donor banquet she is putting together. Honestly, I don't even know if she wants it back, or it's a permanent gift, or?, or? or? It was just so unexpected and ODD that it even came to the door!!
So, in short, you may see less of me over the next few days, BUT, you can be assured (if it's really for keeps) of more great pix- think
PNW DISMEET!!!! :banana::banana::banana:
I scoped out a few wineries today as recon for our ladies' time!
Ladies~ they are BEAUTIFUL!! Rolling, green hills with neatly trimmed vines, amazing tasting rooms, it's just going to be so lovely!!! I can't wait!!!!
My camera (I hope!) is ready! Is yours??!!!

I am still so touched by your story, Tanya!! What a gift!! I have another transplant story...
The same day you got yours, a friend of my FIL got one. The completely ironic thing is that the donor that matched best- even better than his own twin, was his adopted son from Korea who had been married only a month when they transplanted!!!!! Can you believe it??!!! ADOPTED!!

I'm here (although on page 4 ick!) but I was thinking about you today Liesa after hearing all about the west coast maybe getting hit with waves from the tsunami that happened in Japan. I'm assuming all is okay because I'm sure you would've mentioned it by now!
Sorry to hear you won't be around much. BOO to limited internet. What century are we in again???? Sheesh

I'm here! All is well.... tsunamis rarely hop over mountains. ;) But apparently California fared a bit worse!
I spent the day in my garden, and have a half a bed of strawberries all neatly planted in a tidy little row, after spending half the DAY going through the MUCH overgrown garden looking for fresh starts and digging out weeds. What a mess it all it right now.
Off to my neighbor's for happy hour. :goodvibes Love you all- and

You sneak i was finally getting around to posting here. This time i worked my way from the bottom of my bookmarked threads to the top. Sorted by highest number of pages to least. Since this is new it too a wee bit to get to.
Millie put the bug in my ear to call you, she was worried. I had a feeling you were not that close to ocean but I knew about the river.
Enjoy that happy hour! :drinking1

I'm so glad your doing better!! I had no idea you sprung a leak! :scared1: Praise God your all fixed up and rarin to go again!! :yay:
I have some bad news, and some FANTASTARONI news....
The bad news is that we have reached the "danger zone" of going over our internet time. But, the most amazing thing happened to me today. I hear a knock at the door, and one of our neighbors hands me a package. Huh???? I wasn't expecting anything!! I open it up, and OMGosh!!! It's a NEW CAMERA!!!!!
PNW DISMEET!!!! :banana::banana::banana:
I'm sooooo glad your doing well. I had a call from Maroo today to see if I had heard from you since she was worried about you, which in turn got me to thinking I had tried to call you two days in a row and no answer. Out of your large brood, there always seems to be someone who answers the phone, and since no answer I too started to worry. Since I don't watch the news (long story for those who don't know that about me) and know literally nothing about where you live, I had no idea what was happening in your neck of the woods.
On a much brighter note, YEAAAAH for the new POS camera!! I'm sure the POS doesn't mean the same thing as the last one! :goodvibes
And yeah for the wineries!! Sounds beautiful and right up my alley, I'm always wanting to learn about and try more wines. It's hard for me to reason out buying and trying a new bottle of wine when I'm usually the only one drinking it, dh isn't big on wines that aren't drier than a popcorn fart, and since I don't drink all that much, I usually end up wasting most of the bottle. :guilty:
This will be fun!! :woohoo: Do we have a designated driver?

Liesa - at 8:00 AM your time yesterday, I actually did try to call - but thought better of it and hung up. :rotfl2: I was concerned that you guys are on that river and I assume if the water is pressed into a shore that it also comes up the rivers?? That is how it works here in MS - when Katrina happened there we places way inland that were completely flooded because they were on a river bank that spills into the ocean. So I was a bit worried for you guys yesterday. :upsidedow:upsidedow
I have a prayer request - PLEASE...
Please pray for Lauren. We are half-way driving to Disney and she is nauseated. We have a patch for her that she will start using today which will hopefully help - as we think it is from the motion of the car (she can't sit comfortably unless she is laying back in her chair and I am sure laying back and going in the car is not a pleasant feeling. :upsidedow
We want her to be WELL this trip and want her to be able experience Disney with as much normalcy as possible.
Thanks for your prayers!

ha! I was able to get on for just a few minutes today, just long enough to give a quickie update. We never saw any surges or "activity" on our river, except that it's quite high after DAYS of more rain. The one exception being yesterday when I was able to crank out some serious yard work.
Happy hour was ummm.... happy. She wants a tree cut down in her yard, and offered to give us the wood if Mike did the work!! We are almost out of firewood this year, so that's a very good thing!!

Yep, doing great and boy, it's amazing how clean a house can be without the distraciton of the DIS. ;)
You will LOVE our winery tour!! It's so pretty in the hills around here! Talked to Terri last night and am trying to finagle him to be our designated driver. At each winery the tasting fee is $5 per person to taste 5-6 of their wines. Not bad. So a variety of them; I'm sure you'll find something you will like!!
I am hoping that you will get to see our yard in all its spring time glory! It truly is lovely with all the flowering trees and bulbs.

Sounds like most of the West Coast damage was in CAlifornia. (OMG! I just saw someone get taken down for shoplifting in teh grocery store- that was exciting!) Apparently, Crescent City's harbor was completely destroyed- odd it was the same city that was wrecked by the 1964 Alaska earthquake Tsunami.
I will definitely pray for Lauren!! That is an ominous start to the trip, Mary!!

Ahhhh, the glories of shopping. There’s the shopping one must do to simply eat. Mundane, routine, and let’s face it, rather boring. Crank it up a paltry notch and we get shopping for socks and underwear. Well, maybe some of you get excited about that, but that’s only barely above something like having a McDonald’s Cheeseburger for lunch. Yet, it is somewhat below shopping for something like say, a new washing machine when it dies completely. All of the aforementioned are necessary items, and therefore make the shopping a purely bland experience. Who cares if the underwear is white, beige or blue? Unless you end up in the ER, does it really matter?
Once in a while, if you’re an average American living on an average income, you get to REALLY shop¬- for stuff you absolutely don’t need, but find thrilling to hunt for, and grasp like a hungry vulture. And if it’s something on sale, we really start to get excited and maybe even salivate. For those of who are “in the know”, we like to think that some of the best place for frivolously FUN shopping is in Disney. I am one of those- and I’ll wager to guess you are too.
Ready to go shopping?? How about a WorldWide shopping tour? How about doing it all in one day?--- A race around 1.3 miles of shopping bliss finding just the right something to be a small token reminder of the trip?
The rules of the game went like this: A) The item for purchase had to be under $8-$10 (I thought I’d start at $5, but realized that since my MNSSHP was snatched out from under me, I’d used it to get a few nicer things) B) It had to be authentic to the country it came from in World Showcase C) It was not to be overtly Disney in nature and D) it needed to be small in order to fit back into my already overloaded luggage.
During my PTR, I had gathered all kinds of tips and hints and suggestions from all of you! It was exciting in itself to do the PREsearch for my mega-shopping spree. Would it be successful? Would I find just the right “pretties” to bring home and enjoy for years to come? How many on my list would I actually purchase, and how many countries did I opt for something different?
I’ve got my shop on- do you??!!
If you’ll recall, I zoomed right on past Canada (sorry, Jen!!) on my way to the place of pallid alcoholic beverages. Dragons they are not. They are more like green caterpillars- slow moving and innocuous, but interesting to look at. Being that I only had a half a day to rustle up all my booty, I needed to do this Mega-Shop methodically; so what better place to start than in the UK Pavilion. I ran into a good friend of mine who is in the daycare business.

She has a fantastic magical bag, and although she couldn’t pull anything out of it to interest me (rubber tree plants are too large to pack in my luggage), she did direct me to a simply cozy little purveyor of tea things. On the way, I caught a fleeting glimpse of Burt up amongst the chimney tops. He is her secret lover that she sneaks away with to dance with penguins (remember in Victorian times nannies were not encouraged to become attached) and drink raspberry ices. I love Mary. She’s a little nutty sometimes, but great to hang around on ceilings with.

Inside this cute little shop:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1333-1.jpg
I saw hundreds of teas, tea pots, tea cozies, linens and things. But none of those were what I was looking for today. Tea lasts only a short time, the dish towels were overpriced, and a tea pot was too large. I browsed, asked the hostess some questions about this “Tea for Two” set (I was really just interested in hearing her really cool accent), browsed some more, asked some more questions, because honestly, who can get enough British accent,

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1335.jpg
and finally found what I was looking for:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/IMG_0020.jpg
I also took a few pictures of the tea cups and saucers tastefully displayed on the walls. My pipe dream is to someday have a similar display of antique tea cup sets in my kitchen as well. Until then, I have a virtual display to look at. So, my prey was found in about 5 minutes, and I spent $8.00.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1337.jpg
With my purchase in hand, it was time to head out and spend the next 30 minutes seeing what I could in the UK Pavilion. I had budgeted about that long for each country, which would put me done just about the right time. Maybe it’s just me, but this particular pavilion really doesn’t need a full 30 minutes. Unless you happened to run into a plump, fluffy bear and his playpals. Which I did. And there was hardly any line. Which is the only reason I stayed, because I just don’t normally stand in line for ANY characters.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1343.jpg
As I waited in the short line, I found some super fun hidden gems, but to my great consternation vandals had wrecked them. I mean, hello! Can’t you keep your “dog spray” off the props??
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1344.jpg
I’ve read The Swiss Family Robinson recently, and STILL love it, and, Disney, although had cast some pretty hot actors in their version missed the mark a bit. Still, the treehouse at the MK is a nice attraction to hit up.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1347.jpg
Winding through the quaint little UK twin city, I found myself in the shop with all kinds of really cool instruments of war hanging around. I fiddled with the backlight function on the POS and still ended up with this:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1349.jpg
I fell in love with this tapestry, and thought it’d look really cool in my living room:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1351.jpg
Remember in my last installment I told you my day was about to get “rosier” and “crownier”. Well, here comes the crownier part. I have an uncanny knack for taking horrific pictures in hats. This is the 2nd worst hat picture of me- next to the Indiana Jones one. (And see, you didn’t even have to beg for that one.)
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1348.jpg
But putting bad hat pictures aside, I ran into another good friend of mine along the way out. We greeted each other in the customary royal style:

And when he asked me if I would ride off into the sunset with him, I politely had to decline, telling him I was being held hostage in a land of perpetual rain and moss with no hope of ever escaping; but that if I ever did, he’d be my first choice. At the very stroke of 30 minutes, my glass slipper turned into a leather sandal, and I had to bid a hasty farewell to Prince Charming. I told him that if we ever happened to meet again, I hoped we wouldn’t look quite so much like a “high school marching band meets Disney tourist”,

I love the pictures you took of the UK. I have never even thought of looking up when I'm in those stores. I'll have to do that next time.

He was rather a surprise when I came across him. And I certainly had this update in mind when I was doing my little meet and greet!
It is a tea bag holder, that we use everyday. Bek is our tea drinker, and it comes in very handy sitting by our stove.
This whole interaction had me :rotfl2: especially the "high school marching band meets Disney tourist" comment.
Does his costume not just scream Main Street marching band?!! :lmao: I say give that boy a trombone!

Canada does play a part in my SAtW (Shop Around the World) but not til a bit later. But getting ahead of myself, yes, mediocre is a word that might come to mind.
I swear I will come visit if we are ever up that way!!! YOu KNOW it!!!
YOU MUST LOOK UP!!! There's actually quite a bit there! :3dglasses
At first he was like, "What? Huh? You want me to do it like how?" AFter a bit of prompting, I think he warmed up to the gig and got into it. Maybe, do I dare say, he had fun? :confused3;)

If I had had a really cool camera like yours imagine what I might have gotten. HA! But anyway, I chalk it up to just having some really nice subject matter.
The costume was pretty un-regal IMHO. Just only sort of so-so, and amatuerish. Nevertheless, the interaction was fun after a bit of coaching... ;)

Lovely update!(doesn't that sound English). What a great idea, I would love to shop around WS with a budget. It makes the searching more fun, like a scavenger hunt. I would have to ditch DH first.
Love your pictures with the characters especially Prince Charming. I have never seen him in Epcot. I've been working real hard on a paper piecing of PC and Cinderella and your picture is spot on what I need for color placement.

OOOO I love shopping!:woohoo: I remember when you were planning this excursion, and asking for suggestions. It will be so fun to see what you got! I love the tea store - I always buy a stash of Earl Grey in there! Your Tea Bag plate is very cute!
It was so fun to hear the plans for our meet today!!! I'm getting excited to plan what I will bring. :woohoo: The wine tour sounds wonderful! We can take my van even if Terry drives - it will hold 7 of us! I'm definitely bringing some wine from our local 12 Ranch Wines - we can do a tasting of that one and see what everyone thinks! It is one of my favs!
Camille - I'm scared to ask about the T-shirt? So happy to hear Tyler is okay!

Liesa, I just love love love your witty updates! You really have a knack for writing, your wording cracks me up!:lmao:
I'm amazed at your shopping prowess! With that list of criteria, you made a wonderful find at the Tea Caddy shop. I have a little tea bag holder like that one, it was a gift from my mother-in-law. I use it all the time!
Awww, Prince Charming looks like he might be a tad enamored with you. Must have been that fancy curtsy you gave him...;)
I can't wait to see what else you bought around the WS!:thumbsup2
Since I am NOT a big shopper in general, I was on a very focused "get to it" sort of mission! I didn't want to diddle around, and would have rathered spent my time taking photos, and taking in the scenery. It worked!!! I went in, found what a wanted WITH a reasonable budget, and left. THAT'S my kind of shopping!
All that curtseying at English Country Dancing on Thursday nights sure helped with the enamoring. :lmao: He was smitten for sure!
Okay, I'm finally here. Last week was rather hectic.
Nice update. I like your description of Mary best: "a good friend of mine who is in the daycare business". :rotfl2:
I like it when everyone else gets really busy about the same time I can''t be on the net. Makes me be able to keep up better.
Mary was also a conjurer... among other things.

It was VERY much like a scavenger hunt! I got to see a whole lotta stuff I couldn't even come close to affording, and really kept me on track for the day. I think if I hadnt' set up some shopping parameters, it might have gone into shopping anarchy.
The color placement was decidedly ummm... patriotic. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Mmmm! Earl Grey is great!! Bergamot is a lovely, lovely flavor! yeah, remember all that hoopla over what to look for? so many great suggestions and, boy, oh, boy they sure helped!! Just you wait and see!

GREAT!! I will take you up on the offer to use the van. We have one, but DH may need it to do whatever. Then again, he may decide to go with us too. Who knows. 12 Ranch sounds awesome- yes! do bring.

Ahhhh, the glories of shopping. There’s the shopping one must do to simply eat. Mundane, routine, and let’s face it, rather boring. Crank it up a paltry notch and we get shopping for socks and underwear.
Depends on whom the underwear is for. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

You go ahead. I'll be hanging out in Electronics if you need me.

So I walk in, and HAD to get a flashdrive with some video on it to California by TOMORROW. I had to wait in line a bit, and still had to transfer the data onto a new drive all within a few minutes the sales guy tells me.
While standing there, the USPS guy walks in, and I blurt out, "Are you the Overnight Guy?!?"
He answers me, "Ummm, what's you name; I COULD be."

Time once again to:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1357.jpg
This time we’re going to have some fun en France’! We could play in the:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1358.jpg
Or we could play in:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1360.jpg
Or we could even play in the bushes:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1356.jpg
But the best place to play, I think is in the place where you can find a whole bunch of useless French stuff, but fun nonetheless. But first, I was feeling like it was time to tackle one of those things on my bucket list for the trip- to watch all 4 movies around the WS: China, America, Canada, and France. So I started here. It was a perfect time to find some much needed A/C, and a place to rest my derričre.
I cannot say enough about this relaxing, soothing, simply beautiful film. I was absolutely mesmerized from the moment I entered. Remember I said I ‘m a sucker for British accents? French ones are another story…. As far as I could tell, our host for this showing didn’t speak one word of English. I understood, “FRONCE”, and that was the end of it. I took 2 years of French, and can read a bit, so was a bit surprised I couldn’t pick up more of it. So after bidding us a warm Bien Venue (the only other word I understood), I entered the Land of Cushie Tooshie Seats. Seriously, this is the place to be to pad things up. The music soared, as did we. Taking that aerial tour over vineyards, castles, little villages, and Paris, was exhilarating! I thoroughly enjoyed the familiar soundtrack that I had listened to while running during the summer before my trip, and all too soon our tour was over and it was time to go back out and find some more fun. And of course, I needed to find my souvenir (which coincidentally is a French word).
Naturally, I ended up in the dump shop after the film, and had to try on yet another hat. This photo, I think, is lightyears better that previous attempts. Finally, a keeper.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1359.jpg
But I didn’t buy the beret- I’ll leave cute hat purchases to Marlene (Glennbo’s cutie patootie daughter). Nothing attracted me here, so I kept wandering, and saw a little nook here, and was finally getting closer to what I was after.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1362.jpg
I had decided in my early planning months that first I’d look for a wine stopper, since I think of wine when I think of France. But the ones I thought were really pretty, and what I really wanted, were WAY too expensive. You know the ones with blown glass and all frilly with different colors…. Since time was seriously marching on (remember I only had 30 minutes per Pavilion) I needed to make the purchase and jet, so I ended up with the only souvie that is really “Disneyana”- a Mickey Head corker.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/IMG_0061-1.jpg
I use it, and I like it, but I was VERY disappointed to find out that they are sold at just about every shop on property. I even saw them in Everything Pop later on. UGH! Truly not French. In fact, I broke shopping rule # 2 also- “It has to be made in France”. But I didn’t have one at home, and nothing else really grabbed my attention, so I ended up with a cheap piece of Chinese crap.
But there is a rainbow at the end of this tunnel. About a month ago, I unpacked a box of stuff that my mom had saved from my recently dearly departed Grandmother (the one to whom this whole trip was partly dedicated) and there sitting neatly wrapped up was this:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/IMG_0062.jpg
I could hardly believe my eyes!!! She was 2nd generation French, and I was just astounded that I would get a pretty wine stopper from her things after being so disappointed with my own purchase at EPCOT. Definitely one of those “had I known” moments. So there ya have it: 2 wine stoppers for the price of one, both with a bit of sentimental meaning.
I made one more purchase in the wine store, but was again a bit disappointed with it as well:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1361.jpg
I ate a couple of small bites, wrapped it up and threw it in the bag. I never saw it again until I got home and it was smashed and encrusted with small bits of sand and other unidentifiable goo. Sadly, it was $2.00 down the pooper. It wasn’t that it was bad caramel, in fact, it was rather good; just not what I was expecting. I thought it would be saltier and less sticky on my teeth. I guess I just wasn’t in the mood for it.
Let’s keep playing!! I found some new playmates waiting for me outside, and decided to join their fun and games. Well, actually, they chose me to have a seat on one of their chairs and watch the show. So I did. This was my prime vantage spot for almost the entire show- right up until the time they asked for their chair back.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1363.jpg
Higher and higher he went, and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1364.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1365.jpg
And I thought, hmmm… this might be a fun photo op. for my Peeps. So I hung around and asked if he’d take a picture with me. He said “sure” and seemed game.
As soon as he opened his mouth, I recognized his accent, and immediately knew this was NO Frenchman, but rather….
A Russian performer, likely right out of the very same circuses that came to our village every year, with acts VERY similar this one. Seriously, I don’t know too many French “Valentin”s. Even the way they encouraged the crowd with certain hand gestures and shouts were familiar to me. We gave a giant toast (I’ll bet he was wishing it were Vodka bottles):
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1366.jpg
And bidding him a hearty Das Vidanya, I headed out to my next destination.

Great update , Liesa!! Did you intend to take a hat picture in every country as well, or was that just coincidence?
I like your wine stopper, even if it isn't French! I have the same one and think it is very cute. I guess the thing is that most Disney souvenirs aren't really authentic to the countries they are offered in... But I can assure you that even if you would be a souvenir in the real France, you might find out that it was "Made in China"
And just to add another Flossbolna history lesson:
The label "Made in ..." was originally introduced by the UK in order to mark the cheap, low quality stuff imported from the less industrialized Germany (the China of the 19th century). It kind of backfired and "Made in Germany" soon became a label for quality... :goodvibes

Well, I like that Mickey cork very much! DH would make fun of me to no end if I put in a bottle of wine though (he's not quite as in to Disney as I am). But your mil's wine stopper is gorgeous! So lovely! The colors are beautiful Liesa.
Mike hates it too, but his practical side overwhelms him, and he uses it anyway; until last month we didnt' have another one. Now I have both of them sitting side by side on my kitchen shelf above the sink where I can look at them everyday. The glass one is quite lovely- such a great find!
Am I the only one who thinks that Ritalian guy is crazy?? That can't be safe to do! Stacking things and then climbing on top to balance yourself upside down? Nope, looks dangerous to me. How nice that he took a pic with you! You should've asked him if he was from Crapistan!
He is crazy!! I can't believe there aren't more accidents! I totally should have asked if he had lived in one of the former CIS States. They all know our former city, no matter where they actually lived. It was right near the Russian equivalent of Cape Canaveral.
This is nice beret pic too!

Not bad, not bad.
Although I thought you were flipping off that France poster, you're middle finger looks a tad raised! Then I thought well, maybe it's yet another Liesa greeting that I'm not aware of?:confused3 At least you kept your shirt on!
:lmao: OH my! It might look like that, but actually, they were trying to charge me too much for a GG slushie, and I got offended.
Looking forward to your remaining purchases!:goodvibes
many more coming up.
I missed the cabbage talk but I am not a fan of it.. I will eat it from time to time but I don't go looking for it. :sad2:
Great updates!!!
Love you took the time to see some characters!
I hope to go to Disney in September sometime... it seems like you can just do whatchalyke!
I know your wine stopper wasn't authentic but I do like it!!! (what a coincidence you found a wine stopper from your grandmother!)
OK... I think I'm good to go! WHEW! ;)
Sept. rocked~ rarely a line, never a full TS place, lots of room to roam.
Not even cole slaw??
Authentic no- cute yeah, I'll give you that. My new default one is the one from Grandma.
Well there ya go...you could have stopped right there.
You know me better than that! Tsk, tsk.
It is a keeper! Nice photo. So....I guess were you frequently asking guests or CMs to take your picture for you on this solo portion of the trip? Seems like they've all done a nice job.
I asked all kinds of random people. AT first the Paprazzi was happy to oblige, then either guests or CMs or PP folks. I never had anyone say no; and sometimes those interactions were actually full of fun conversation.
Hey! Marlene got a shout-out in Liesa's TR! :yay: Thanks!
Always happy to oblige! :goodvibes

NO, I hadn't really set out to get a bunch of hat pix, although, I did end up taking advantage of that easy theme. One of the questions on the Master Predictor Game was "How many fountain pix will I get?" And in fact, did dismally at that. So those of you who went low on that guess did well.
BTW, I will go back and tally up HMs since there were a few more added from the Seedy Tour.
And of course, the Adult Beverage Count is now: 2
I"m sure you're right. Lots of useless stuff that would come OUT Of France was never made there. Except the wine and some of that really cool fabric.
The exact same thing goes on in Kazakhstan. The order of quality goes like this: Made in Germany, Made in Russia, Made in China- in that order- best to worst. Truly, you get what you pay for! Interesting irony about the origins.

That wine stopper from your grandmother is so beautiful! I'm not a wine drinker, so I was trying to imagine a swirly, colorful wine stopper when I was reading, and then, I saw the picture and it was so much cooler than I had thought. I was actually wondering what in the heck was up with a 12? year old sitting in a light up stroller!!!?? I don't know the whole story, but it just looks so odd seeing a BIG kid in one!
The wine stopper is glass with swirls of green and blue in it. I love that color combo, and you're right, it is really pretty in its own right! You could use one for a vinegar bottle, or any glass decanter full of anything! :thumbsup2 Very pretty sitting on a counter!

I know you will really like the film- truly it is so peaceful! A nice retreat on a hot day or for escaping a busy park.
Some of the acts in WS are hard to catch- sometimes it's just luck you catch them at all. Even if you know the schedule and have it planned.
I just moved that stopper to a glass bottle by my stove that I normally keep a fresh sprig of rosemary in. Now I'll see it more often until I open another bottle.

Yeah, the beret trumps the crown by a long way!!
That's what I think. WAY too big for a stroller- if he truly has mobility issues maybe he needs to be in a wheelchair?? :confused3 Then again, maybe it's his little brother or sister's and he just figured he'd sit for a spell? Although that sees unlikely. Glow in the dark- cool concept!
Good idea- except that we only buy cheap wine. :lmao::lmao::lmao:
I've never stuck around to see them- seems like they don't have very many shows. :confused3 And I was on a mission to catch a different group. ;)

Apparently, coccia (sp?) meant "son of". I find it rather ironic that there are no boys left to carry on the name who have the last name. I mean my cousins have all had kids, but all out of wedlock. That's it- my sisters and I are the end of the line as far we know....

Now, you my dear, bring up a VERY good point!! Why would anyone NEED one of these?? When we open a bottle, it lasts between the 2 of us about 2 days. Unless my FIL comes over, then it's less. I imagine my nice one will stay on the bottle by my stove more than I think. ;)

That reminds of my trip to Namibia. My boyfriend at that time was really an Africa expert (he had a Masters degree in African history) and a train lover. He found a name plate for a disused engine of the Namibian railway in the souvenir shop of the railway museum and had his heart set on getting that as a souvenir. It weighed a ton and was huge - about the size and the weight of a manhole cover! Not a practical souvenir at all!! But he managed to get it back with him, we even went to some office to get the necessary permit to export it from Namibia. :thumbsup2

That's exactly it. They're really, really expensive. I think you could use them in cities and they'd make some sense, but the cost might be too much to bear (although I think Seattle has a short one). The other problem is the one we've all encountered at Disney: if one breaks down, the entire system is ground to a halt.
I dunno, some might say the riding ToT (ehem...) is like a trip straight to HE double hockey sticks. :lmao:

I know I’m kind of cruising through these WS Mega-Shopping Spree installments rather quickly, but since there are more than a few, I feel like I need to breeze through them. I hope you are still enjoying reading them, as much as I am enjoying writing them and reliving those hours!
Leaving my playmate, Valentin, to climb his chairways to heaven, it was time to find some new pals to have some fun with. But not before finding a few of the hidden gems that take some seeking out in my favorite of all EPCOT Pavilions in WS. I love the snaking mysterious passageways that bring back so many memories of my former life traveling the world and living in an Eastern culture: The sounds of a busy marketplace echoing off the earthen walls; the spicy scents drifting out of the Marakesh; the occasional clang of a tambourine or finger cymbals; and the happy shouts of children from upstairs windows. The bright colors of the scarves and silks hanging around every new corner bring a wide smile to my face, and friendly CMs with their thick Eastern accents and big brown eyes remind me of my good friends from my life in Crapistan.
Before I wandered in, I stopped to see the one group I was most excited to catch on my round-the-world tour- Mo’Rockin! I had downloaded several of their tracks from iTunes (well, actually my dad did because iTunes won’t let anyone download from my former blacklisted country) and listened to them incessantly while slogging around the decrepit track while training. I was determined to request one of those songs so sat down to listen. They were great! I was the ONLY one actually sitting on the 4,000 degree butt-blistering concrete bench (yes, I am an unashamed groupie) watching, and it was obvious I wasn’t the average passerby who watched for about 30 seconds. About that long into my vigil, I did wonder if Reedy Creek had a burn unit for the unfortunate guests stupid enough to actually SIT and take in the tunes.
These guys were not breaking in between songs, so the only way I could think of to get my request “in” was to write it on a piece of paper and show it to one of them. So I did. He raised his eyebrows as if shocked that I knew the name of one of the songs in their lineup, and nonchalantly moseyed over to the lead. He in turn had to spread the word that I was requesting a song and each one sort of shrugged their shoulders and wagged their head. It wasn’t looking good. But before I knew it, the familiar tune of Habibi Da sprang from his guitar. I was in heaven- and I was prepared to sing the Arabic too. But NO ONE SANG IT!! Don’t get me wrong, the tune in and of itself is great, but the words are so easy on the ear.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1367.jpg
After another song or two this raving beauty came out to entertain. Just as the band is easy on the ears, she must be easy on the eyes. Yeah, guys?? She in fact, is the same reason it took my hubby half an hour to “settle the bill” at the Marakesh in 2008. Just one comment: This is belly dancing right? I get that. And being so, the eye is drawn to her belly, where I noticed a rather large HOLE from a piercing. I guess I was sorta grossed-out by it. I know Disney doesn’t want jewelry, but well, this was just sort of bad looking, and might have been better WITH the ring or whatever IN it.

After the set, I went to thank them, and he explained that there was no one in the group there today who could sing in the range that song was played in. HUH!!?? So like youse guys aren’t the REAL DEAL?! I was baffled, but realized that this group is probably like the Voices of Liberty who trade out CMs here and there. Slightly disappointed I left for the inviting interior of “Morocco”.

All of my PRESearch for my trip led me to a few little things in this Pavilion that I wanted to hunt down. The first was a copy of a letter written by George Washington to King Mohammed III of Morocco thanking him for his political support just following the Revolutionary War. Did you know the country of Morocco was the very first state to recognize the new USA as a sovereign entity??
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1374.jpg
Well, maybe I’m the only one who thinks this stuff is really cool beans. Moving on. I was completely happy with my freedom to stop and take a picture whenever I wanted, and this little Moroccan proverb stood out to me:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1372.jpg
One of the other things I really wanted to do in here was take in the “free tour” that I had read about here on the DIS. So I spent the next 15 minutes going from store to store, CM to CM, and eventually manager to manager inquiring about said tour. Bottom line is that it is apparently no longer offered. I was truly disappointed in this- I had really, really looked forward to it. However something did lift my spirits; my clothing plan really paid off on that day; no less than 4 Moroccan CMs complemented my shirt and smiled wide when they saw it was Moroccan! That was really cool to connect with them on this level. I was glad I could bring them a fleeting moment of familiarity that those living abroad crave every day!
I do remember wandering into the museum myself, but for the life of me cannot find those pictures. If you’ve never been in there, it is truly worth the 10 minutes it takes to see the beautiful costumes of that area! (Clearly, this Pavilion is going to take longer than the allotted 30 minutes I’d budgeted.) Deeper, deeper in I went; I was in absolutely NO hurry, and sometimes slowing down pays off BIG. BIG was about to happen…
Just across the way from here where I got my 3rd WS hat picture:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1373.jpg
I ran across some CMs having a little party! You will NEVER see video like this again, I imagine! What I was witnessing was unbridled, obviously impromptu fun that brought an authenticity to my Moroccan experience that ONLY something like this could bring:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/th_DisneyTrip20101103.jpg (http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/?action=view¤t=DisneyTrip20101103.mp4)
This is EXACTLY how Kazakhs dance as well, so I really could relate on a personal level myself- it flooded me with memories of countless parties we had been to, where we danced the night away to music just like that! But as amazing as that was, I still had one last task to accomplish- finding that special something to take home to remind me of my special time there. After MUCH searching and pricing and hemming and hawing, I chose this:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/IMG_0063.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/IMG_0064.jpg
And believe it or not, it was “Made in Morocco”, was not “Disney, and was under $8.00! I use it almost every day when I do the lipstick thing in the car. Not a bad find for $5.75.
Next up: X-amining Japan!

That's exactly it. They're really, really expensive. I think you could use them in cities and they'd make some sense, but the cost might be too much to bear (although I think Seattle has a short one). The other problem is the one we've all encountered at Disney: if one breaks down, the entire system is ground to a halt.
Oh, come on. Anyone who would say that is a class-A wimp. :rolleyes1
I know that Oregon/ Washington voters are majoritively against building new mass transit- but I'll bet if a monorail were an option, they might relent. :confused3 Then they could lobby for a Small World attraction too.
But doesn't the whole system of a Metro train breakdown bring everything to a grinding halt as well??
Oh, you're right- must have been someone else I was thinking of... :lmao::rolleyes:

Maybe the fact that it's the only Pavilion that the host GOVERNMENT oversaw has soemthing to do with its authenticity?? I didn't end up taking a lot of video this trip (camera battery issues, remember?) but this was one of my rare gems. Love it!
Hey, you've hit on something. The guys have their belly dancer- they should give us gals Indy!!
Classes: I did NOT get into the section of math I wanted, but the instructor told me to show up with an add/drop form first day of class, and if there's a seat I'm in. WHICH MEANS, I have to still go to my class I did get into on Monday night in case the other doesn't work out, AND on Tues afternoon to the one I do want. Which means less time to get ready for our Meet. :headache:

Yes, but then we're back to the cost thing. It's easier to build rails on the ground. So there are usually alternate tracks and switches that enable you to go around. Up in the air, there aren't any alternatives.

As much as it looked good, and thanks Pat for posting it, it was wasn't authentic Irish soda bread. I have a bread cookbook and the recipe it has is VERY different. It says it has a velvety texture and is free form in shape and has a razored criss cross over the top. In order to do that, you definitely wouldn't have the muffin dough consistency the one I used had. So, now that you've heard FAR more than you ever wanted to about Irish soda bread, I'll just say, what it ended up being was more like a shortcake in loaf form and was GREAT with the homemade strawberry preserves. YUM!
My 8 year old adores Shepherd's Pie!! She has asked for it for her birthday (in June!) even. Easy and tasty!! No asparagus around here lately. The cheapest in town is almost $4 bucks a pound right now at Winco. NO way am I going to pay that!
I love your Morocco souvenir! I am glad that the pavillion which you got to enjoy so much also gave you the perfect shopping opportunity.
I really enjoyed your description of the pavillion and loved your sentiment. It really shows how much you enjoy experiencing foreign cultures. :goodvibes
It did. In fact, though, it did take a bit of hunting. I contemplated a little incense burner in the shape of a genie lamp, but we had already picked a couple of those up in Dubai a few years ago; I also looked at some cute wooden coasters, but those were too spendy. I really like what I ended up with after all. I know it's homemade, as if you look closely, you can even see a flaw in it. (Towards the top of the mirror in the photo, you can see where a hole or two is not punched out)
I do enjoy cultures all over the world. None is perfect, but all have qualities that are worthy of emulation. If Americans were half as hospitible as Kazakhs or Moroccans we'd all be better off.

Being that I only had a half a day to rustle up all my booty, I needed to do this Mega-Shop methodically; For such a small lady, a half day to rustle up your booty is quite perplexing. I guess this is why you chose to expose the other end in your infamous greeting!
Good that you didn't have Rosie with you! No time for her to attempt one of her famous lap dances. Then again, maybe Piglet is the only one she finds worthy of such behavior! :confused3
At the very stroke of 30 minutes, my glass slipper turned into a leather sandal, and I had to bid a hasty farewell to Prince Charming. This guy is sure to be getting a complex by now when all of his Princesses run off as soon as they get to know him a little....:sad2:
And now, it's off to the dreaded mamm exam. So I won't have a chance to take a peek until later this evening... UGH!
Well I see someone else is due for an infamous Liesa greeting! Hope all came out well.....
It was a perfect time to find some much needed A/C, and a place to rest my derričre. It's no wonder when it takes a half day just to rustle it up..... ;)
But I didn’t buy the beret- I’ll leave cute hat purchases to Marlene (Glennbo’s cutie patootie daughter).
At least it was a source of a very internationale pic! You looked marv-elous!
So there ya have it: 2 wine stoppers for the price of one, both with a bit of sentimental meaning.Very nice and so very special! What a great treasure! :woohoo:
Leaving my playmate, Valentin, to climb his chairways to heaven, it was time to find some new pals to have some fun with.:rotfl2: Nice!
But not before finding a few of the hidden gems that take some seeking out in my favorite of all EPCOT Pavilions in WS.I really need to spend more time here on my next trip, and not because of the belly dancer (although she doesn't hurt). Some wonderful pics and I was totally unaware of that letter from George Washington! So many more things to experience.:guilty:
But before I knew it, the familiar tune of Habibi Da sprang from his guitar. I was in heaven- and I was prepared to sing the Arabic too. But NO ONE SANG IT!! Don’t get me wrong, the tune in and of itself is great, but the words are so easy on the ear. That would have been so cool!
I know Disney doesn’t want jewelry, but well, this was just sort of bad looking, and might have been better WITH the ring or whatever IN it.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1370.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1369.jpgI always wondered why they called it belly dancing. Not normally one of the parts that draws my attention, even if the outfit is supposed to direct you that way. Just never got excited seeing a woman roll her belly for me. Makes me think of the guys trying to make their belly buttons "talk" or something like that!
Well, maybe I’m the only one who thinks this stuff is really cool beans. Not the only one! Got to put this on my must do list for next trip!
Jim says he would buy one of the original E tickets - I would like a carousel horse! We are stripping Cindy's area!:lmao:
For a minute after the first time I read that, I thought you were doing a Liesa Greeting in Fantasyland. :lmao:
I agree! A caroussel horse would be VERY cool!! I wonder how many E tickets there are in attics here and there. When I finally search through my parent's house one day it wouldn't surprise me to find unused tickets, but there is no way there will be any "E" tickets. Those were the first ones I was anxious to use! Might find some "A" or possibly a rare "B" ticket.

WOW! I imagine it took you a fairly long spell to rustle up that lengthy response. :worship: You've been a working maniac lately- either that or you're avoiding all of us these days.
You are the only one who though Valentin and his climbing was funny- guess that says something about us.
Yeah, Rosie might have made things REALLY interesting. :rotfl2: But I could have proxied in for her had Piggy been there.
There's always something to add to the next time list, isnt' there??
So, I take it Pocahontas is another big hit with you?? :confused3;)
E tickets went fast!! A tickets, not so much!

Great update! It stinks that they got rid of the free tour. I never even heard of that before. :confused3
I think it is funny that your FAVORITE group couldn't sing the Aribic part of the song. You should of hopped up there and sang backup for them! At least they played your request!
Looks like the CMs were having a little too much fun... you don't have moves like these?
You'd be happy to know that I ate cabbage yesterday. I don't go looking for it but it does find me from time to time... and I do like cole slaw. ::yes:: ;)

Every since Tyler's car accident last weekend and with him being home from college (spring break here in Texas) I've been a bit busy, not to mention my daughter not doing school this week, my training with the trainer (deep breath)....I've been a busy girl! I even managed to get most of my flowers bought and part of them planted. :yay:
But then, you (Liesa)know all of this. Not everyone else does so I wanted to be sure to let them know I didn't abandon them, and am still here and I miss y'all :lovestruc
Holy cow! This working out and working with a trainer is beating my big butt into one tired girl!! Most nights I'm so tired I can hardly see straight! I get a chance to read, but not much left in me to answer.
Sorry. :guilty:
I'm thrilled for my trip coming up and I'm looking forward to everyone hearing about our ventures together. :goodvibes

I know! I need to go back and find where I had read about it- it was either here or on allears and tell them what I found. Nothing more disappointing than looking forward and having it not available. It's kind of like desserts at restaurants. And who knows, it could have been that I had only been talking to CMs who didn't know what they were talking about, too. I wonder how often they just get lazy and blow guests off. :confused3
I think it is funny that your FAVORITE group couldn't sing the Aribic part of the song. You should of hopped up there and sang backup for them! At least they played your request!
Well, it wasn't that they couldnt' sing the Arabic, it was more that they didn't have the guy who could sing that high? or low? I dunno, I think I got my fill of stardom at DHS the day before. ;):lmao:
And hearing my familiar song WAS nice!
Looks like the CMs were having a little too much fun... you don't have moves like these?
I DO have the moves. Silly! I danced like that all the time in Crapistan.

You have no idea how much it helps to have someone you can trust willing to hold you accountable. My trust issues aren't where they need to be, so this has helped me to branch out, I now attend a weight loss group once a week as well. :scared: That's majorly stepping out of the comfort zone, for me anyway!
It's actually my friend Sharon's group, the one I told you about who was on the A&E show, HEAVY. She's now down 144 lb. and still plugging away at it!! :cheer2: I'm so proud of her! If she can get out of bed everyday and still make her world go round after what she's been through with the loss of her son and take off all that weight....I'm totally without excuses. :guilty:
She inspires me, greatly. I'm also inspired to get to Disney in 2013 and tour without being in pain! :woohoo:
With your support and the support of the few I've let in with the support group, I know I can do this!!
I sure hope your class comes through!! Crossing fingers and praying!!

Great update. I also Love the Morocco Pavilion. Although i have never been, it seems so authentic.:lovestruc
When we were there, they also broke out into song and dance. I hope that is spontaneous and that they are just a joyful people. It does seem so, because it seems as if you "just come upon it" not rehearsed.
That time the girls were working and the boys were playing some instruments and singing and just dancing around. They seemed so happy. It was awesome!:thumbsup2
I have also had a bad experience with a girl working there. ONe of the other male CM's saw it, and took me aside, cheered me up, wrote all my kids names in their native language on some beautiful paper. :)

Do tell, All! What would you buy if you could buy up props, hardscaping or such????
I'd want a Sci Fi car for my dining room. And maybe the Swiss Family Treehouse in the backyard for my boys to play in.
So strange no one could sing the Mo'Rockin song. I wonder why they wouldn't just play it in a key one of them could sing it in. :confused3 Although, I bet they don't get many requests.
That letter from George Washington is so cool! I've never seen it before. Looks like I need to spend some more time exploring Morocco.

I cleaned ALL day yesterday and made a superb meal (if I do say so myself) of roast pork stuffed with a pecan-sausage stuffing, paired with a sherry dijon mustard sauce; green beans with apricots and almonds; and the mushroom risotto from Le Cellier. OMG!! It was OUT OF THIS world fabulous!!
All that to say, no time to chat yesterday.
I did, I did!!! I met up with TONI on Friday morning, and we yacked it up for over 2 hours! It was so fun to finally meet her- I know you're going to love her. And.... Terri (her DH) wants to wine tour with us!! YEAH! One more for our Saturday excursion!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... ummm... there's like 30 other keys they could do it in....:confused3 and no, I'm sure they get a request about once a month- tops! :lmao:
There's a lot to see there- and all kinds of those hidden little finds everywhere. I'd have never known about it had I not read it on allears. The museum is sure worth going in as well.

Friday brought yet another FABULOUS (it was, right Toni?) DISMeet for me!
oregonmommyof2 and I met at our local Starbucks for a cup of coffee and over 2 hours of get-to-know-ya coversation. You never know when meeting someone new if it's going to be wierd or uncomfortable, but at least on my end it never was!! Ha! She probably went home and almost told Terri what an oddball I am, but likely was distracted by the BIG, gigantic move later that day; in fact, she left directly from our Meet to pick up the Budget truck.
THANKS, Toni for the latte and a great morning!!

After my excursions to North Africa, it was time to seek out the Far East- which is better than the Far Left, Far Right and Far Out. While I chose to wear a long-sleeved shirt and got some super fun CM interactions with it, I realized that I was about to have a heat stroke. Especially after trying to test the outer limits of human physical endurance by sampling the concrete wares Disney has to offer in the Moroccan Pavilion in the way of seating. I’m pretty sure I was “glistening” by this point (as opposed to Glennbo who was “moist”) and thought briefly about stopping by the booze kiosk to grab a Habibi Daiquiri to quench my Sahara dry thirst. But with my massive disappointment in the Green Gecko at Rose and Crown, I was Disney Drink shy and decided to save my $10 for the next souvie. Besides, I had already blown my drink budget for the day, and once again, I was afraid that, on the 1% chance it actually had a little proof poured into it, I didn’t want to weave the rest of my way around the Lagoon.
So onward to Japan I headed. 3 souvies down, 8 to go. Now, let’s set the contrast from the Moroccan Pavilion to the Japanese one: Morocco is high energy, vibrant, colorful and festive; Japan, at least in my mind’s eye, is also high energy, yet tranquil, peaceful, subdued and understatedly elegant. No less beautiful, no less attractive.

I was drawn in with high hopes of seeing Miyuki, but was immediately bombarded with the chick drummer and company.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/LiesaDay1375.jpg
Every time I see her in action (and the others, but I am always mesmerized by her first and foremost) I am astounded that one body can have that much stamina and strength. I watched for a couple of minutes (the same amount of time most watch Mo’ Rockin’ unless the belly dancer is out) and moved deeper into the recesses of calm. I seriously appreciated the shade back in there, and soon found myself in the Mitsokushi Store. I don’t know about anyone else, but I get sucked in there faster than a mosquito to a campfire. Bzzzzt. It’s like a black hole I can’t get out of; happens every time. The goofy shoes and socks with toes, the candy, samurai headbands, chopsticks and other “stuff”.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/DisneyTrip2010979.jpg
Before I knew it, I was also sucked into some inane fun playing “Twirl the Something or Rather” with the CMs in there.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/DisneyTrip2010978.jpg
This brought back many fond memories of playing Hungry, Hungry Hippo and Operation with my sisters. I spun my thingy as fast and hard as I could, and it zung around the miniature playing field wildly, and I had a fair amount of fun. Of course, it would have been a whole lot more fun if my spinner thingy would have won, but it didn’t, and I walked off with the shame of a Tokyo corporate boss whose Honda parts were just recalled.
And now here’s my confession… I cruised the store, spent some time wishing I had more chopsticks to sit uselessly in my kitchen drawers, glanced at my EPCOT “entertainers spreadsheet” (because I am THAT kind of planner) and realized Miyuki would NOT entertain me today, took some pictures and….
Left.
Without a souvenir.
This was for a VERY good reason though, for I knew I’d be back. My special treasure from The Land of the Rising Sun would wait for another day.
Back out to the blazing hot, un-air conditioned outside, (why hasn’t Disney invented a way to A/C the entire Park inside and OUT?) and on to America. By now, my head was starting to ache a bit, and I was kinda just wanting to hurry up a bit. Hey, what a great place to pick up the pace than the America Pavilion? Basically, there’s nothing to see there except the Voices of Liberty and the show, and I wanted to save both for our time together. So I ducked into the teesny, rather pathetic, shop and started looking.
A shot glass with the American flag? Nope. Not my cup of tea. A bandana to wear to my next Bruce Springsteen concert? Huh uh. A little Statue of Liberty made of acrylic right out of China?
Then it struck me! I had tried many times to find some of Voices of Liberty music online to buy, but couldn’t. That was it! I found 2 recordings of collections and snatched one up for about $12. Yeah, over budget, but my fuzzy Disney Math was telling me, that since I had only spent $5.75 on the mirror, I had some to play with. It’s on my iPod now, and I love it! A very good find, indeed!
By now, my head was reaching critical mass- explosion was imminent, and I thought I’d grab a FREE ice water from the CS place. Sometimes that helps, but not always. I remember texting with at least one of you that I had struggled with the annoying heat, long days, crowds, bright sun, lack of enough water (take your pick, I’m still not sure which one(s) it is.) headaches. When I was in line I noticed this sign posted on a door just behind the public area, yet still in view.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Disney%20Trip%202010/DisneyTrip2010985.jpg
I know it's hard to read, so, ETA: The sign says, "Never say NO to a guest. Turn their request into a reality. Make every guest feel special."
I was impressed that they are still encouraging common manners and great customer service at my Happy Place. I wish they’d give a tutorial to guests when they came in as well. Just as I grabbed my water and headed for the door, I turned just in time to see a dad slap one of his boy’s faces and yell something at him. Pissed me off! I don’t want to see that ANYWHERE, especially while at Disney World!! There is no excuse for that. And I’ll leave it alone there, as it gets me worked up just typing it.
Perhaps they might also want to include fashion manners in their “Disney for Beginners” course. As I left “America”, this met my eyes.

From the look on that other girl’s face, I wasn’t the only one amused.
So, re-capping: I played something almost as fun as Tiddlywinks but lost, left Japan without a souvie (fret naught), ogled over chopsticks, did not imbibe Habibi’s, witnessed child abuse, and a fashion faux pas, but got a great CD with some amazing music on it.

So, you glisten, huh? ;)
Hey, I can't read that sign on the door....could you type it out please? (ETA: I can read the sign that says "Out". It's the one that starts off "Never..." that I'm having trouble with. (to head-off the smarties))
I hate that you saw a dad slap his son. That's a nice memory that kid is going to have of Epcot, isn't it? :sad1:

Finally getting caught back up. Went through 4 or 5 updates today.
Enjoying your WS jaunt. Or is it a journey? When does a jaunt become a journey? And once you pull the trigger on that decision, can a journey ever go back to a jaunt? I don't know if I could make that type of commitment.
I'm with Glenn - can't read the sign. I think I could make out "Never say no to a guest" but that's as muh as I can decipher. (Which is not the same as decode.) Let's not be rash.
OH and judging from your final photo, I'd say you caught the dude above the "enter here" sign just as he was unleashing a soul cleansing fart.

Yes...I know it's hard to read. The sign says, "Never say NO to a guest. Turn their request into a reality. Make every guest feel special."
I imagine that kid will probably have more memories like this than just the one in EPCOT. A lifetime of scars that may never go away.

You've sure been an absent entity around here lately. No more shifts at home?? :confused3
A journey hints at something with a definite goal- at least to me. So this was journey- one of shopping proportions. It was a commitment I was ready to make. :lmao: My visa was on the frontlines.
I've put on my batman glasses for ya'll and have deciphered with accuracy. Which is not the same as preciseness. A good DISer is never rash.

Nice update! I love getting lost in the Japanese dept. store, in fact I think I avoided it like the plague this last time because I never get enough time to see the rest of the WS if I go into this store. I really need to be better about looking at the different educational offerings in the WS. :teacher:

It's TOTAL piracy!! And frankly, it seems wrong. I'm all for private enterprise and business for profit and all that... but a mark up on a USED BOOK that is REQUIRED is a load of BS. Next time, I'm going to Craig's List to see what I can find. That is also part of the free market concept.

Be careful, don't buy to far in advanced. A lot of times they issue a new "revised," book/volume so they can still rob you blind. My son found this out last semester when he thought he found a book for cheap, almost bought it and then found out they were changing the book.

Publishing companies do that all the time. They change a few words, call it a new 'edition' and then only sell that new one on contract to the schools. It's a scam. And it irks me that the students are the ones who have to put up wiith it, or not study. They can't change it now; the bookstore ON campus told me that it is the official one of the term. And I have 2 weeks to return it for full price.
If anyone works for a publishing company, I apologize for my rant. Maybe I am missing something that the consumers aren't aware of... To us, it really just feels like overcharging for a product, and that we are really held hostage to it.

Here's where you need a soundtrack for your TR. What better place for one of those orchestral stings that accompanies a cliffhanger right before the commercial break?
A shot glass with the American flag? Nope. Not my cup of tea. A bandana to wear to my next Bruce Springsteen concert? Huh uh. A little Statue of Liberty made of acrylic right out of China?
I know. You were holding out for a wind-up Mt. Rushmore that dances along with your iPod, weren't you? Nothing says "America" more than that.
Then it struck me! I had tried many times to find some of Voices of Liberty music online to buy, but couldn’t. That was it! I found 2 recordings of collections and snatched one up for about $12. Sorry to hear about your headache...I tend to wake up with them my first few days at Disney (or anywhere, for that matter) -- I think flying triggers them for me. I hope it goes away soon; nothing's worse than wanting to enjoy precious vacation hours, but to be stuck in the room with a headache!

My DH's parents work for a little college where the students can rent textbooks, which I think it a pretty awesome idea. And I'm sure that at some point in the future (maybe this is happening some places already?) students will be able to rent e-readers and download much cheaper versions of the texts. Textbook publishers are going to be in real trouble very soon, if they don't figure out a better business model!

Here's where you need a soundtrack for your TR. What better place for one of those orchestral stings that accompanies a cliffhanger right before the commercial break?
Duh-duh-duh DUM!!!! (the Filth)

Bayblades!!!!
William would just about keel over dead to hear you call it something that spins around... lol
William LOVES those things!
Nevermind that Lisa saw them and totally didn't get him any...:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 I guess she figured they have them at Walmart so there was little need to spend our precious Disney cash. ;) And she already bought him some Pokemon cards from the WALMART before we even hit Disney property as his souvie - isn't that funny!?!? Good way to save some cash, I suppose! :)
LOVED the Japan/America update! That lady needs to try again with the dress....??? :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I absolutely love the Japanese drummers.
I think, if you don't mind, that I'll use your idea of shopping around the world. It sounds like fun looking for the elusive bargain. :magnify:
Every time I go into the Morrocco Pavilion my allergies act up. It was so bad last time that I had to go back to the resort and take out my contacts and flush my eyes. :confused3 May be it's the incense? :confused3 I'm still going to go back this trip, I'll just make sure that I have my glasses and eye rinse with me!
They are definitely powerful to watch. I wish I had that much energy!!!
Anyone can shop around the world- but the key is to go-go-go! If you spend too long in one pavilion, you're doomed. Realistically, you need another day to really explore and hit the attractions aside from the shopping day.
The incense can be quite strong in there. I never thought about how much it could affect those with allergies. Although, the scents are a large part of what makes it an authentic experience. :cloud9:
I love your visit to Japan, I would love to just sit by the water and read or reflect for awhile - too bad you were getting a headache:headache: I love that store, feels like home to us. We always go in thinking we will bring something home for posterity - I guess we got some pretty chopsticks, but we have ALOT of stuff, so we always just end up getting snacks and food items we can't get here. I can't wait to see what you get when you go back!
If I hadn't a mission at hand, I actually might have. Maybe it would have helped my headache some.
I really liked the little soy sauce/wasabi dishes I took the picture of. They come in so many pretty colors and shapes! You could get an assorted set of those. ;)
I love "the sign." Too bad they don't teach that at Walmart!:rotfl2: Of course the requests could be pretty strange :rolleyes1
They really would be. "Can I have 4 T-shrits for the price of one?" "May I eat my McDonald's cheeseburger during my eye exam?"
I think Miss Fashion plate is Marilyn Monroe - you know she and Elvis are living on a deserted island in the caribbean!
Is Amelia Erhart their chaperone?
I'm glad you are getting your classes! Mark and Lindsay used half.com to get alot of their books, once they knew for sure which ones were required:

I will definitely keep that website in mind for next time!!! I knew there HAD to be a better way!!!

Good call. Plus, you could end up walking around the park in this:

Ok, here's the upshot. At least she has legs that look pretty good in it. I, on the other hand, need NOT be frightening the guests. Period.
Beautifully stated. :goodvibes
Why thanks!

Hallmark style? If Michael Landon were still with us, I'd definitely hire him. :thumbsup2
I know. You were holding out for a wind-up Mt. Rushmore that dances along with your iPod, weren't you? Nothing says "America" more than that.
I had briefly thought about the large-ish Uncle Sam hat and the fake Social Security Card making machine, but those too were too passe. Then again, I could get a job very easily standing on the street corner in one beckoning tax payers to the 'We Do Your Taxes Mart'.
 Hate it! Wow, that's just ugly.
It was very ugly, and still riles me up.
Well, you only have to make that mistake once. I'll never wear heels in the parks again, lemme tell ya.
There are support groups for people like you.
What you played in Japan is called Beyblades. Made by Hasbro I think. They are sold in TRU, Walmart, Target or you can just stop by my house. We have TONS of them. :lmao:
Oooooooooooooohhhh. I had no idea it was something you could get a play here. :confused3 And here I was all thinking I was like being a REAL Japanese person. Sheesh. My bad. :sad2:
I agree about being mad:mad: at seeing the father slap his kid, and at Disney no less. Someone need to teach these people about a parent time out.
I think it's called jail.
I'm guessing that a whole lot of boys are hoping that you girl will drop something and need to pick it up.:rolleyes1 I cant even imagine wearing those shoes and that dress at a park.:sad2:
:lmao::lmao::lmao: Maybe that's what the guy at the "Enter Here" sign was thinking. GB, you got it all wrong. :rotfl2: The WS walkway is 1.3 MILES long!!! I can't imagine going 100 FEET in them!

Sheesh, Liesa, what kind of an American are you? Saying no to a flag shot glass??!! :rotfl:
I know, I'm completely UN-patriotic in every way. What can I say.
Mine don't really start until about 2:00- perhaps when the sun was brightest? I can't remember if I had my sunglasses with me at this point or not, but I must have quickly learned to wear them henceforth. And I drank a LOT more water! I sucked it up for a long time- just how long I'll leave to the tale.
What a BRILLIANT idea!! And yes, if they don't find a more economical solution they will be aced out. In these tougher times, a lot of folks are watching their pennies more carefully. At least I am! Every dollar counts right now.
I am back!
Now I just gotta catch up! :faint:
It won't take long. Only 15 pages I think.
nice score on the sign to tell them how to treat guests...it is fun to find stuff that you are not really suppose to see, but sometimes do in the world.
isnt that the outfit that all teen girls are wearing now a days...:sad2:
i tell you, if we have a daughter she is wearing winter clothes all year long:laughing:
It was a fun find, and glad I saw it. It was a nice reminder as to how much I love that place!
HAHAHA! Well, not my kids, but yes, true. In Oregon, the more odd one to me is just going everywhere in your PJs? :confused3:confused3 That is just so, so odd to me.

Silly goose. I'm still only on MY Day 2. GOSH it's taking me a long time to get through it all. :guilty: I seem to be missing some photos that I thought I remembered taking. Hmmm???? But maybe I am confusing days.
Anyway, I have 1/2 of WS left, and evening EMH and a special hello for someone coming up.

I had ZERO idea these even existed outside of Japan. Honest! What a dork.
She bought him Pokemon cards?? Yes, that's hilarious! :rotfl2: maybe they have a Mickey set somewhere. :confused3;)
It was pretty funny. I think she actually may have been foreign, and just didn't have more casual/appropriate clothes. I dunno, just seemed to out of place.
