Does anyone have a walking program they do to get ready for all the walking they will be doing in Disney? I thought a while ago there was going to be a "get fit" program on the boards, I can't find anything now. Please share your ideas and tips.

Thank you for reminding me, I have to get back on the treadmill and walk. I usually have the TV on or the radio blasting to get me motivated. I do know that walking is good for you and I don't do it as much as I should. They do have walking taes to pop in the VCR and walk with also they have tapes to listen to so you get motivated. You'll do it, take one day at a time and just think DISNEY!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I walk everyday on my breaks, have a morning and afternoon 15 minute break and walk the full time, walk for 15 of my half hour lunch too..so try and get 45 minutes a day walking...it sure helps. If anyone can go walk while at work, it works out well as our lives are so busy when we are off work it is hard to squeeze in a walking program too...hope this helps someone.

May I make a suggestion? I exercise 4-5 times per week and include step classes and treadmill. However, when we went to Disney, I discovered that none of these excercises works your calve muscles. When at Disney, we have always stayed in units that have bedrooms upstairs. So, I was constantly walking up and down the stairs. To my amazement, my calves hurt so badly that I was barely able to walk. So now, a couple of months before I go to Disney, I locate stairs (i work on the 10th floor of my office building) and I walk down those stairs every single day.
Hope this helps!

Hmm... someone should make a video of a fast-paced stroll through the parks and resorts. Who would like to watch that while going to town on their treadmill?
When I would go to WDW for several days in a row, I found my feet would hurt more than my muscles. Does anyone do anything to condition their feet for all the pressure? Does the exercise take care of that? It doesn't really bother me now that I stand at work, but I don't think anyone wants to stand 40 hours a week just to get prepared for WDW.

We are in the final training days for our trip next month. We did three miles straight again today as a family, including the 10 DD, 8 DD, and 4 DS.. we are using a umbrella stroller and let the 4 YO get out and in as he needs to. We have been doing this 5 out of 7 days for three weeks now.. all three kids are playing soccer and the conditioning from that seems to help quite a bit..(doesn't hurt that I coach two of the teams and participate as much as my players do !)
Good Luck

I'm a workout fanatic, I carry my gym bag and sneakers with me in my car at all times. In case you can squeeze in a walk on the way home, etc.
Start out your walking regime slowly, walk on a flat surface. Do you have a highschool track? Start with one mile or whatever you can do. Wear good sneakers and comfortable clothes! Good luck!:D

DocR, it's all in the shoes and socks you wear. Buy a good pair of running shoes (not walking shoes). Asics and New Balance make excellent shoes. Also get Coolmax socks. They are a polyester blend and wick away any moisture, preventing blisters. Cotton socks do not wick moisture away and are a major contributor to blisters.
You can also buy cushioned inserts for your shoes. These are available at any sporting goods or athletic wear stores.
