Quick thoughts on settings? I take a parent/tot ice skating class with DD3 while my DS does a hockey class.

My mom is coming today so I thought I'd have her snap some pics. She'll be upstairs in the "stands" so I'll use the 55-250IS.

She is not a photographer. I'm fairly certain on auto she'll have problems with focus and with the flash.

Up the ISO and hope for the best?

The lighting is also horrid.

Up the ISO to 1600 or so, set exposure compensation to approximately +2/3 or +1, use Av mode with aperture set the lowest it can get(F4-F5.6), get as close as possible to the action, use Servo AF with the center focus point. Keep that point over the player you want to take a picture of, half press the shutter button and when you are ready take the picture.
