I might be wrong, but is this price higher than it was around the holiday season?
I priced around during xmas and ended up getting my son a T1i, but remember being very tempted by this camera.

I don't think so... you can check some price history at Amazon here (http://camelcamelcamel.com/Pentax-K-x-2-7-inch-18-55mm-Black/product/B002OEBTC8), the lowest it's ever been at Amazon has been $490. (Not counting third-party, looks like they bottomed out around $460.) I think we paid $650 or so for ours when it was relatively new.

I know the feeling; my wife wants the purple one. :)

The K-r has the nicer 3" LCD and the light-up focus points, but the K-x for this price is a steal, with some really great capabilities and speed, and let's not forget that it was one of the best high-ISO APS-sensor cameras until the K-5 and D7000 came along...
