The hard facts …….

When:
February 19 – 26, 2011

Where:
February 19, Clarion Lake Buena Vista
February 20 – 26, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Why:
Because we needed a little Disney fun

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/birthdayWDW/IMG_0438.jpg

Who:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/summer2010/IMG_6606.jpg

Tom: My dear brother and travelling buddy. He’s a mailman in real live but loves to share in on all my Disney fun.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/tagrel/IMG_0433.jpg

And then there is me ……
Karin: Teacher by day, planner of Disney trips by night.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Dreams/147-4738_IMG.jpg

We both didn’t grow up with Disney. Yes, we did read the Mickey Mouse comic books, but that was it, a comic book and we got to watch Disney movies in the cinema, but other than that, Austria is a Disney desert.
In 1992 we took our first trip to the USA and visited California for 18 days. A travel agent had put the trip together for us and we did several states, national parks and cities in a bit more than two weeks. Since the TA suggested a visit to Disneyland we decided to follow her recommendation and go there.
Once we walked under the railway station we were hooked. We loved our first Disney experience so much that we cut our visit to San Diego a day short and spent another day at Disneyland.
We went back every summer for a few years and threw in a few visits to Disneyland Paris now and then and then we finally gave in and visited Florida for the first time in 1999. We stayed offsite for 5 nights and drove from Winter Garden to WDW every day, then travelled down the Atlantic coast to Key West and back along the Gulf Coast to end our trip at WDW, staying on property for the first time, at All Star Movies.
Do I need to say that we loved it? We went back every year and so far have stayed at Pop Century, All Star Movies, All Star Music, Port Orleans Riverside, Caribbean Beach Resort, Coronado Springs Resort, The Contemporary Resort, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Yacht Club and the Wilderness Lodge.
In 2006 Disney upgraded our reservation at Old Key West to a 1 bedroom villa and ever since this has become our DREAM resort. We go back whenever we can afford it and thanks to Disney.co.uk we can go back in August/September with a generous discount and free dining.
In 2009 we joined a group of Disney friends on our “once in a lifetime” Disney cruise. As with anything else Disney we fell in love with Disney Cruise Line and this summer we will take cruises number 4, 5 and 6.

But now, back to our February trip.
Two years ago we came up with the idea of taking a weeklong trip during my half term holiday. Living in a country where it is freezing cold in the winter we loved and enjoyed the warm temperatures and the complete change of scenery so much, we repeated it last year. We were not sure if we would be able to pull it off again this year, but everything worked out in our favour and we were able to fly to Disney for a week.
There were a lot of fun things planned, a DISmeet, EMHs until 3am, the Wild Africa Trek and a Wishes Dessert Party.
Many things got changed and many things just worked out really well. Now, if you are interested, we would love to have you along for the ride!

Your so organized! You write such great reports I can't wait to look into everything. I just went through your food pics and everything looked so yummy. How was the peppermint bark sundae? I had peppermint ice cream in a waffle cone last time I was at Magic Kingdom and it was so good it's a must do when I go back along with the hot chocolate float. They put a scoop of vanilla in the hot chocolate and it's so good!:cloud9: It's beyond words

Day 1, February 19

Are you sure you have a reservation? - Part 1

Finally February 19 had arrived – it was time to go on vacation!

Our suitcases had only been packed the night before and there were just a few items still needed to be thrown in last minute. So we got a good night’s sleep and I got up around 7am, got ready, turned off the water and unplugged everything that could be unplugged before I locked my flat behind me and went to our favourite baker to pick up some rolls.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9450.jpg

Then I went to our house to have breakfast before it was time to leave for the airport. When I arrived Tom had just gotten up and we prepared breakfast, sat down and enjoyed rolls, pumpkinseed rolls, ham, eggs, juice and some tea.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9447.jpg

Then the last few items got packed and after saying goodbye to Pixie, the cat, we were off to the airport. Well, not quite.
Right when we were ready to leave I remembered the one chore I had forgotten to do – watering the plants in my flat! Since I had already turned off the water, Tom filled an empty bottle with water for me and we went to my flat first, so my flowers would not have to die whilst I was gone.

Needless to say the unplanned stop made us a little late for the airport, but thankfully Linz airport is pretty small and you can check in until 30 minutes prior to your flight.
The drive to the airport was uneventful, even though it was a busy Saturday morning and we arrived there with time to spare. We parked the car in the long term car park, found a space not too far from the entrance, got everything out of the car and off we went. The walk is pretty short, about 90 seconds and we were inside the well heated airport building. Before we checked in our baggage I changed my shoes from the closed ones I had to wear in the wintery weather to some more summer type shoes and threw the other ones in the suitcase. Then we got in line, only one guy ahead of us, checked in our luggage and went over to the security checkpoint.
There is not much to see and do before and after the checkpoint, so there was no point in not going through security. Everything was a-okay, now that we have learned that even a gum wrapper can set off the alarm we really empty our pockets before going through.

Once inside we checked the flight times, our 11.15 flight was on time, so we walked through the duty free shop, which is tiny and in no time it was time to get in line to board the plane.
Our airport is so small that you actually walk over to the plane. It was starting to snow outside and we both were glad to be able to leave the snow and cold behind.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9453.jpg

We stowed our hand luggage, settled into our seats and waited for things to come. A little later we were told that boarding was completed and we were good to go.
That first flight is only 50 minutes and as soon as we had reached cruising altitude

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9454.jpg

we were served some drinks,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9458.jpg

Nussinis are REAL YUMMY!!!!!!! They are very common here and I guess we are pretty lucky Lufthansa still caters on short flights!
And I was reminded of your earlier comment, that you had to bring your own snacks when we were at the airport for our flight home. There was a couple filling a basket with snacks and only then did it dawn on me that not everyone was as lucky as we are travelling Lufthansa.

You're so lucky to be able to fly on European airlines! American flights have cut everything! No snacks, no meals, you have to buy any food, pay for your luggage...it's absurd.

Last time I went to Europe I was on LOT Polish Airlines and they were still giving FREE alcoholic beverages and abundant food! I find security doesn't seem to be as tight in European airports either - it's quicker to get through the lines!

Well, actually Lufthansa is the only airline that flies out of Linz with only one stopover in Frankfurt and then nonstop to Orlando, so there is not really much choice. And they don't come cheap. Our summer flights are worth $3500,- :scared1: ... and that IS travelling economy!
So they better feed me well! :rotfl2:
Oh, by the way alcoholic drinks are still free on Lufthansa as well! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure about security - it might take longer in the US, but I am not so sure it is actually so much tighter.
Tom got caught with a gum wrapper at our tiny airport! :rotfl2: Yip, it made the alarm go off! We had a good laugh in the end with the officer! But airports are usually much smaller and there are NO lenghty immigration processes as in the US.

Subbing, now going back to catch up popcorn::

The thing I miss most when in the US is our bread and our rolls! Don't get me wrong - I never can wait to have some of that supersoft bread they sell in the supermarkets, but after two weeks I am REALLY longing for one of the pumpkinseed rolls - my favourites! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO yummy!! ;)

Oh my, I couldn't get out of the weather back home fast enough! Especially since the weather report was so promising for Florida! :cloud9:

Did you make a business call to Bad Hofgastein? Most people here speak English - very well, not so many! :rotfl2:

Here's a little off topic update.

Some of you have asked to see photos of TinkerBell, Pixie for short, our princess, aka our kitty!

She loves everything and anything feathery and since we don't have much choice with those toys here we always buy a bag full for her at Petsmart. Don't think there are many Austrians with a Petsmart card! :rotfl2:

So today she was in a particular good mood and we thought why not treat her to one of your gifts.

Well, this is what they look like when they are new ........

She is adorable, she obviously loved her showgirl toy.
You made me laugh out loud with the comment about not many Austrians with a Petsmart card!! That is funny.
I love going to Petsmart.

I was on a busines/personal call to Bad Hofgastein my work and my life have become one it seems!! It looks like a really beautiful town, that and the area near Zell am see.

Day 1, February 19

Are you sure you have a reservation? - Part 2

Time just flew by and we landed right on time in Frankfurt.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9464.jpg

We were picked up by a bus and brought to the main building, where we headed right to our next departure gate.
Frankfurt airport is huge and it took quite some time, we actually had to leave the airport and walk to the opposite side to go through security once again. This time there was a long line, especially because there is a special check for flights to the US. But after about 10 minutes we were done and on the way to our boarding gate we stopped and did a little duty free shopping.

Once we had reached our gate we got a bottle of Coke and finished off the ham sandwiches we had brought. There was just time to visit the restroom and then it was time to board again.

Tom and I had chosen seats to the very back of the plane, not because this is our favourite location, but because these were the only 3 rows that only had two seats instead of three at the windows. Unfortunately the flight was overbooked and they had to unload luggage of people who volunteered to take a flight on the next day, so we left Frankfurt with a little delay.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9473.jpg

After about 45 minutes the crew started their service and we were served drinks and snacks.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9468.jpg

Tom had a beer, while I had some water

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9472.jpg

and we nibbled the pretzel sticks that had been served.

After about an hour and a half they started their “lunch” service.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9475.jpg

We were served a tray

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9476.jpg

with a tiny but nice crisp Salad with Balsamic Dressing,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9481.jpg

followed by Beef Stroganoff, served with rice and peas and carrots. The other option was Mac and Cheese, but I don’t really like those.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9478.jpg

There was a piece of “young” Camembert, Butter

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9482.jpg

and a freshly baked roll as well.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9477.jpg

For dessert we had some chocolate cake with chocolate icing and sprinkled with chopped pistachio nuts.
The food was really tasty and once we were filled up we took some sleeping aid, moved the backrest of our seats back and tried to sleep. We both fell asleep for short periods of time, watching the onboard movie as an extra sleeping aid.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9484.jpg

About 7 hours into the flight we were served a light “dinner”.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9485.jpg

There is no choice for your second meal

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9489.jpg

and we all were served Ravioli filled with Ricotta Cheese and Spinach in a creamy spinach sauce.
I have to admit they were really tasty, even though a little overcooked. The roll was like the ones Disney uses, rather stale “brown” rolls, which disintegrated when broken up.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9487.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9490.jpg

For dessert we got some really nice Vanilla Pudding (blancmange) which had little black specks of real vanilla in it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9491.jpg

Even though we had left later than expected we arrived in Orlando ahead of time.

It took about 20 minutes to get off the plane and then we were walking towards immigration and we were wondering how long we would have to queue up.

I can't get over the fact that you get food on the plane that actually looks edible! Continental (who we fly from NJ) has ridiculous purchased food (in Coach). I wouldn't mind that much, but they never really have much to buy...including on the flight to St Thomas when we go to ST John. You really do have to bring your own food now. :upsidedow

Next time a box makes it's way from NC to Austria, it will have some goodies from PetSmart included.:thumbsup2

Oh! Speaking of boxes - remember I said please don't ever even consider sending another one when the US begins accepting boxes again? Well, I changed my mind after seeing Nussinis!!!!!:rotfl2:

The food on Lufthansa always looks so good! I flew Lufthansa from NY to Frankfurt then on to Rome and back, but we did not have anything that yummy! On one of my trips to London we took Virgin - the way over was terrible - cramped, awful food...but the way back was fabulous! Empty flight and all they did was feed us and it was surprisingly yummy!

I am so jealous! The food you get on your flights looks so good!! We still get pop/juice/coffee... but even the food that you can purchase is no where near as yummy looking as what you are served.

Your kitty is so adorable!!! Aside from having a ton of kids... I have even more cats. I love kitties! :goodvibes

Karin,
I am in LOVE with Pixie:lovestruc
She is adorable, she obviously loved her showgirl toy.
You made me laugh out loud with the comment about not many Austrians with a Petsmart card!! That is funny.
I love going to Petsmart.

I was on a busines/personal call to Bad Hofgastein my work and my life have become one it seems!! It looks like a really beautiful town, that and the area near Zell am see.
Thanks you for the Pixie pictures they were great!
Brenda

She is cute, isn't she, Brenda?
And she LOVES those toys! It amazes me every time, how she "holds" her toys!
Tom and I love Petsmart! We came across it during one of our offsite excursions. Now it has become a "must visit" every trip! ;) And yes, I signed up for one of their cards! Makes me laugh inside every time I am asked if I have one and then hand it over! :rotfl2:

Awww! I love her! She is adorable!

Thank you! We love her too! ;) She is our little princess! :goodvibes

:lmao: love the picture of pixie and her toys those are great!:cat:

Thank you! She is one really spoiled little princess! ;)

Pixie is just darling. How old is she? How does she do when you are away for a whole month? Elaine PS Thanks for the new update!!!

Thank you! She is our "baby" ;) :lmao:.
She is going to be 9 sometime around May. She was a stray and we got her from the vet.
You would not believe it from the photos, but when we first took her in she "vanished" at the top of a wardrobe, where we store my mum's old fabrics. We did NOT see her for 6 weeks, the only proof that she was there was that during the night she would eat and use the litterbox.
After 6 weeks she came down and behaved as if she had been around forever! :rotfl2:
Ever since she has two loyal servants! ;)

Karin I just saw the picture of Pixie your cat, she is adorable! You will not believe it but she looks just like our Claire! I would add her picture for you, but I still don't know how.

Thank you Teri! I received your photo of Claire and they could be sisters! :lmao:
I forwarded your mail to Tom and he was just as stunned as I was!

Are your travel plans still the same? I am so hoping that we can meet in the summer!

Your cat is really cute! Your food looks a lot better then the food I had when I went to Europe.

Thank you!
What airline did you travel on? Not every European airline caters the same way? ;)

Pixie is adorable- I had a cat just like her in college named Gypsy. :goodvibes

:upsidedow

Thank you! Pixie wraps us round her paw - the way she looks at you, we just have to give in! :lmao:

The food on the way to the US is actually quite good and for a free meal it is VERY good. On the way back it is a different story - they cater in the US and it is different from the "European" food.
Low cost carriers here don't cater either. And the food is ridiculously expensive and unedible!

I am late, missed the fact that you have come and went...:sad2: here now ready to read!!

Hi Mary!
Glad you made it here! You haven't missed much - as you can see, I haven't even finished day 1 yet - but I hope to be able to update pretty soon!
Real life sometimes REALLY gets in the way! ;)

I want to see more photos of Pixie! She is soooo cute! I love it when kitties play.

We took a few more photos of her today! Tom needs to convert them to an uploadable size and I will post a few more - she was in a good mood and "modelled" for me today!

Karin, I work as a veterinary technician at a small animal hospital in treatment and surgery so I recognize the expression of a blissed out cat! Pixie is a very lucky cat.:goodvibes

Thank you!
We really want her to be happy and she usually looks to be happy, but to hear that she actually looks happy makes my heart really happy!!!!! Thank you!

Karin,

Great start to your TR. I love the detail and the pictures!

OMG, I want Pixie!!!! We have 4 cats at home and if Joe would let me, I'd have more. :lmao: I am quite crazy though about house cleaning by running the sweeper daily and such but I wouldn't have it any other way...they are worth it!

Thank you! I try to type my trip report as soon as possible, so I can remember a lot of the little detail! ;)

I remember that you love cats! Yours are so cute too! We could not afford more than one! :rotfl2: She is one spoiled kitty! Eats the most expensive food, has the most expensive litter, gets her toys from the US! :lmao:

Tinkerbell is so adorable!! You can tell that she is very loved and very content to have such a wonderful family :goodvibes

Thank you! We are so happy to have her! :goodvibes

Karin,
A "young" Camembert, I always look at the cheese that they are getting rid of at the grocery, about to expire! That means it is just getting slightly ripe for the European taste buds!

The weather in Frankfurt, looked so gray.

I don't like them when they are "overripe" but this one was REAL young - quite firm to the touch!

It was cold and rainy in Frankfurt, we could not wait to get out of there! ;)

KARIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm here I'm here! I'm so sorry for my absense but I'm back now! I was on spring break last week and all I could think of was how your trip was going! Now to catch myself up with you and everyone else!

Yeah! Yuki is here!
How was your spring break trip? I think you talked about going away on your thread?

We had a wonderful week - ended up with incredible weather and had so much fun!
Lots more to come pretty soon! :goodvibes

I am subbing 3 days late Oh Karin How did I miss this !!!

Yeah, Rosie is here too!
So nice to have you onboard Rosie! :thumbsup2

Hi Karin, Mick could'nt believe it either how much our cats look alike. Claire is 8 years old and I picked her up off the sidewalk as a tiny kitten at a strip mall in front of a Claire's Boutique jewelry store. It was snowing and she crawled inside my coat.

Our plans are the same we will be at CSR on the 9th of Sept. We will have to schedule time to visit. We won't be getting park tickets, will just be enjoying the resort and WPE at DD.:)

Pixie is sooo cute!:cutie: I love cats, ours died last fall, he was 16. I don't know if we will adopt another.

I love crusty bread, I envy yours.

Thank you! We love our little princess!

We lost our other cat too. Tom was sure we wouldn't get another one, as Garfield had lived with us for 19 years and it was hard to see him die.

Within 2 weeks he couldn't stand to come home to an empty house any more - this is where Pixie entered the scene! :rotfl2: She has ruled the house ever since ..........

Pixie is sooo cute and photogenic !!!My attempts at getting pix of our 2 kittens have been futile as they don't stay still long enough !!!:rotfl2:They are named Tinkerbelle (Tink) and Silvermist( Misty ) so they are Pixie Fairies too !!!:banana:I will really try to get decent pix of them soon , cuz they too are really cute !!!

I see you stayed off site the first night !! This is part of my new plan , which I haven't run by Judy yet !!But I scrunched figures and with the cheaper flight we will actually save money annnnnnndddd her is my plan I am looking at a LIMO to pick us up and take us to the offsite hotel !!The girls will just LOVE that!!!Whattdo you think?????

Thank you, Rosie!
As for taking photos, I can't take a decent photo with my point and shoot either. I use our "big" camera (Nikon D90) for those photos.
We wanted a Disney name for her and she didn't look like a Minnie or Daisy so we went with TinkerBell. But it is a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG name for a little kitty (and she was tiny when we got her), so her name got shortened from TinkerBell to Pixie! ;)

To be honest, checking into an expensive Disney Resort at a Holiday Weekend I feared that we would get stuck in the "last" room they still held. So we decided on staying offsite and near DTD too.
In the summer we will check into OKW right away like last year. More luggage and we have seats up front on the plane, so we should get through security faster.
But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your idea of the limo and the offsite hotel. What hotel are you thinking of? The Clarion was nice, but it is very motel like. I looked at the Best Western Downtown Disney too and was turned off by the prices and the reviews. (Wanted to go for a Disney view room and there were quite a few reviews where people had booked that and never got one!)

Oh, Pixie is sooo cute!!! I am deathly allergic, but I would want to pet her, so please give her pets and kisses from Aunt Chrissy?

Can't wait for the next update!! :surfweb: popcorn:: :goodvibes

Sophia is going to LOVE the psotcard I received from the FAB Five!! Thank you so much!!

Pixie sends Auntie Chrissie a huge "purr". ;)
You are allergic to cats? Wow, that's hard. I cannot imagine not being able to pet those soft furry creatures! I'll do it for you then!

I'll make a note of the Nussini for you, and HOPE that they find a way to send more than a pound in a parcel again - it is such a pain not to be able to send things.
And thanks for thinking of Pixie IF you ever consider sending something!

I am quite happy with the food Lufthansa feeds us on the way TO the US. On the way back it's not really bad, but they cater in the US and they don't seem to have as many regulations as the Europeans have, so the food is mostly not as good. But as long as you travel on Lufthansa they should feed you well on flights that originate there. Did you fly Lufthansa or one of its partners?
I would LOVE to fly Austrian - their food is outstanding - but they only fly to NY or Washington and then you need to use United. I am NOT a huge fan of immigration in Washington and don't like United. ;)
So Lufthansa it is!

More updates are in the works ...... and you and Sophia are very welcome to your card.
Thank you for the photo of Sophia you sent the other day! :goodvibes

Karin, Pixie is SO CUTE that I saved that first picture of her. I love that she's jusg huggin her new toy! So adorable!!! How old is she?

Hooray, you're on your way! Glad you got there early, even with the short delay. Wow, the food looks really good! Mmm, vanilla pudding with REAL vanilla in it. That's fancy.

Wow, the salad was crisp? That sounds so rare for airplane food. You were flying Lufthansa right?

Thank you! We think that she is a pretty cute cat too! And like you I LOVE the photo where she is hugging her toy with her eyes closed.
Oh, and BTW she's 8!!

Food on Lufthansa is mostly very good! And they do a pretty good job on the salad they serve. The serving is just a very tiny one!

Karin, looks like cute little Pixie is having so much fun! I don't think I've seen a cat hug a toy like that. :cutie:
Nice meals on the plane. We are always relegated to a sandwich from the airport or timing our meals to eat sit down during layovers. I guess I wouldn't want your airfare though. We Americans demand cheap flights or we're not going! ;)

She just loves those feathery toys! She can play with them for a VERY long time! :lmao:

I wish there were an alternative to our airfare - it is what "most" decides if we can go to the US or not. I don't mind staying in a value resort, even though I just LOOOOOVE OKW! ;) But there is no way around airfare. And it IS a long flight too!
There are low cost carriers here too, but they only fly across Europe and some even go to the US, but not to Orlando and if I figure in loosing two vacation days by travelling to Orlando and staying somewhere else it comes close to what Lufthansa charges in the first place! :confused3 So why bother. ;)

Claire got a postcard from her friend "Karin" today!! She was very excited. Thank you so much!

Pixie is adorbable. I love the toy before and after pics. That is so funny.
The flight sounded pretty much uneventful, which is good. I get antsy on a 2 1/2 hour flight. I think I would go crazy longer...but of course if the destination is right, I'm sure I could suck it up! :cutie:

I am glad she liked it! :woohoo: Is she excited she is going on vacation so soon? Are you? Have you started packing yet? ;) :lmao:

Thank you for your comment on Pixie! She licks those feathers until they are soaking wet - that is when she "demands/expects" a new toy! :rotfl2:

I hear you on the long flight - but if we want to go to the US there is NO way around them. This is why we carry the sleeping aid and take some, so we don't really "feel" how long the flight is! ;) :lmao:

Yay, another Karin and Tom trip report. :goodvibes

Pixie is way too cute, she might just steal the show. ;)

Hi! Good to have you here, I am so glay you joined!

And you are SO right - it might have been a HUGE mistakes to post Pixie photos, she gets more comments than anything else! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Checking Karin and waiting for the next update !!!!

At least ONE update coming up today. I have one ready to post and if I have enough time there might even be another one today! ;) :goodvibes

:goodvibes

Yes, I think we are pretty lucky with our in-flight food. And it is still free!

Thank you for your sweet comments on Pixie! She's our "only" cat! I don't know how we could afford more than one - she only eats the most expensive small tins of food and then she is really picky! ;) And yes, she gets something else if she doesn't like her food! She is one SPOILED little girl. :rotfl2:

Day 1, February 19

Are you sure you have a reservation? - Part 3

It took about 20 minutes to get off the plane and then we were walking towards immigration and we were wondering how long we would have to queue up.
When we finally made it there we were shocked – the room was full of people and the line started way outside the roped off lines. There is no other option than to get in line, so we joined the lines which snaked from one side of the room to the other 6 times. :scared1:
It took us nearly 90 minutes to get to an officer and then we were real lucky as we had a very friendly and nice female officer taking our photos and fingerprints.
Then it was finally off to find out if our luggage had made it all the way and yippie, it was still on the carousel. Once we had it in hand and had made it through customs we did not have it transported via their luggage system as it took forever to arrive last summer.

We hauled our luggage over to the rental car desk and there were only 5 people ahead of us.
After about 5 minutes wait we were asked to step up to the desk and handed over our pre-paid rental agreement. The agent was very nice and super helpful and we were all set within a few minutes and on the way out to the parking garage to pick a vehicle.
Well, there wasn’t much to pick from, but Tom found a car he liked and we loaded our stuff in the trunk. Tom positioned the GPS and off we went. While we had landed in broad daylight it was dark when we finally left the parking garage.

And it started to sink in that we had really arrived once the first Disney billboards greeted us along the highway. It took about half an hour and we pulled into the parking lot of the Clarion Lake Buena Vista, formerly Quality Inn Lake Buena Vista.
Last year we had a reservation at the Quality Inn and they managed to loose our reservation, so this year we were holding our breath IF we would have a bed to sleep in. I dug out the reservation confirmation which I had made through an online booking agency and had printed out in English, just in case, and in we went. No one ahead of us at the front desk and the young employee was very cheerful and looked at my reservation, then looked at his computer, looked at my reservation and the computer again, asked for a passport and then asked ……. “Are you sure you have a reservation for today?” :scared1:

Well, look here, it says February 19 on my reservation and if we haven’t leaped in time today IS February 19. No, I didn’t say that, but the sentence was sitting at the tip of my tongue! :rotfl2:
He apologized, took the reservation and went to talk to someone in the back, then came back to explain that we “had had” a reservation on January 19 but didn’t turn up!!!
Sorry, but we haven’t even been in the country then! He finally got us a room and we were really relieved all worked out well, but it just confirms for me that IF (oh please) we go back next February I will stay at a Disney Value Resort just to avoid the offsite hassle.

Key in hand we marched back to the car, then drove over to the section where our room was, walked upstairs and had a look at the room.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9497.jpg

It was clean and had been renovated, so we started to bring up our luggage. Once everything was stowed in the room we walked back down and drove over to the Hess Gas Station at Downtown Disney to pick up some drinks, Dorito chips, Salsa and Cheese Sauce.

Then we headed over to

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9507.jpg

Wolfgang Puck’s Express for some sandwiches to start off our vacation in style.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9511.jpg

We ordered a Rotisserie Turkey Club Sandwich, avocado, bacon, red onion, plum tomatoes, romaine and remoulade and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2001%20-%20February%2019/IMG_9513.jpg

a Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich, with lots of romaine and plum tomatoes.

Once back in our room, Tom went to get some ice and we had a leisurely “picnic” in front of the TV.
By the time we were finished it was close to midnight and we decided to call it a day and try the Clarion’s beds!

Karin hello! I have literally followed all of your dining/trip reports. And was super excited that you had started this new trip report, and I had got in on the very first post versus coming in months later.
We will be back to the World May 30-June 7th, and have just hit a bump in the road. I'm hoping that you will be able to help me out. Our family is Myself, my husband, and our 2 boys (soon to be 4 and 7).
The recent oil hike is going to kill me in price increases for airfare, so we are looking to leave a day earlier. For our dynamic, would you think this hotel would be a good fit? Im very picky whenever it concerns my boys, but the pictures look promising. What's your thought? TIA for any help you may have.

Hi, Karin! I've missed you... Max was sick this week, so I was pretty absent from the boards and am just now getting caught up. It doesn't seem possible that what you're writing about only happened two weeks ago! In fact, you know where we were two weeks, right this very minute? :rotfl: Oh, how I can't wait to go back... I am quite hopeful that next February will happen, no matter what, and now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe the stars will align in the most perfect way possible and we'll go back this July.

I cannot believe that you get Camembert and vanilla pudding with real vanilla in it! :rotfl: That's amazing... Too bad its not as good on the way back!

WPE looks great. We'll have to try it one of these days.

Hi Karin, Nice update. Hope you are having a nice Sunday. Here in NC we are awaiting a rainy afternoon. But that is ok because we need the rain. After seeing Pixies pictures I broached the subject again with my husband about getting another cat. We lost both of ours in the last 3 years. His attitude is that if they live as long as Kevin and Amos did we would be in our 80's! Oh well give Pixie a hug for me. Elaine

Pixie is just too cute and you captured some great shots there :cutie:

I love spoiled girl kitties. I had one for the longest time. (actually would fuss to get me to hold water in my hand so she could drink it) It was so hard for me when she passed. After a series of acquiring not nice/mean kitties We now have "my kitty" from a litter that was found under the tree outside. She is quite the princesss. We also have another rescue kitten who was so sick and goobery when we first got her. She isn't as much of a princess... but she is my dh's kitty. If I had my preference we would just have these two.... but the others no matter how crazy are still part of the family. :confused3

90 minutes for immigration?!?!?! Jeez that is totally absurd!

I stayed at the same hotel about a year ago. It was still Quality Inn then. I'm glad you found it acceptable, but it's what convinced me to never stay offsite again! The housekeeping was awful. The room I had was really gross when I got to it - questionable stains on the bedspread, cookie crumbs all over the floor, surfaces were sticky....:headache: I'm like you now....no offsite, value or don't go at all!

Thank you!
What airline did you travel on? Not every European airline caters the same way? ;)

I flew AirFrance out of New York City.

I was happy to read that the hotel was able to find a room for you. Thank goodness you had all your paperwork with you.

We haven't eaten at Wolfgang Puck in all of our trips to WDW but, after looking at your pictures as well as the pictures of other Disers, I think we've got to add that to our list of "must try" restaurants.

Hi Karin,

Nice update. :thumbsup2 I just love seeing the Disney signs on the highway. :goodvibes From that point on, the anticipation of arriving is killing me!

Thank you, Sophia!
Those first signs are so special - whenever I see them for the first time it really hits me that this is NOT a dream, we are really there! :cloud9:

Those sandwiches look yummy popcorn::

They ARE yummy! We had them a second time later in the trip! :thumbsup2

*Tiffany

Hi Tiffany!
So nice you're joining in here too! And even from the start! :woohoo:

As for the Clarion. We found the rooms to be very clean and the beds comfortable. There was a small fridge, a microwave and a coffee maker (which was broken but that is part of my next update! ;)) The bathroom was clean, our only complaint would have been that they use a tap aerator and it took forever to fill a cup of water. It felt nice to take a shower with, but I would NOT like to wash my hair in it.
So if you are only staying for a night or two I would think it would be okay, not so sure about a longer stay.
As I said, we just stayed the night and IF we should go next February (pretty please! ;)) I am thinking of just doing a value for the night.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

I can't believe they had you down for Jan. 19. since you had the confirmation number in hand that stated Feb. 19:confused3 At least you were able to get a room. The rooms look pretty decent.

I can't imagine getting off such a long flight only to head into a line for 90 minutes:eek:

WPE looks great as usual. I guess that is when all the traveling finally makes it worth it:thumbsup2

I don't know if he just made up the Jan 19 reservation, because I am sure they would have charged me as a no show if they really had had the reservation - I guess it was just "lost" in their suystem.
Last year they had to relocate us and we got lucky and got to stay at the Shingle Creek resort for the Comfort Inn rate. Parking was pricey though and the hike from the parking lot to the resort itself was looooooong!! :lmao:
The rooms were fine for the night - just not sure I would have liked to stay for a longer period of time. :confused3

We knew we were in for a long wait at immigration. Sitting at the very back of the plane we were within the last to get off and that meant being at the end of the line. It is just so frustrating if you only have a week and 90 minutes are spent in line to even enter the country.

And it would not be a vacation if it were not started by a meal from Wolfgang Puck! :rotfl2:

Missed you too!
Poor little Max, hope he is doing well again! He is such a sweetheart!

It's unbelieveable we are already home for more than a week! :scared1: And I can't believe that fun breakfast is more than two weeks in the past! :sad2: What a way to start off our vacation! :thumbsup2

Can't you go back in August? We would LOVE to meet up with you again! :thumbsup2 But whenever you go - I'll keep my fingers (and toes) crossed for you so this works outfor you!!!

Elaine

We had a really nice weekend, sunny but rather on the cool side!
So sorry about your cats - and yes, they can get quite old, we had our Garfield for 19 years, but our house just doesn't seem the same without a cat, so we are glad Pixie moved in! ;)

Hiya, I am trying to win a trip to Austria through the travelchannel but I am somehow convinced the game is rigged lol:rotfl: It is so frustrating when you plan and plan and there is a monkey wrench in the works! My mouth is watering looking at the WPE porn :surfweb:

Yeah for entering a contest to win a trip to Austria - I am so hoping you win!! :yay: :yay:
You know how I just love my WPE! There is even more of it! :rotfl2:

All caught up :) Great start to your TR, you guys always look like you have really good plane food. Virgin is great and all but you would never see a chocolate cake for dessert with their dinners.

I love the Musketeer's pic at the beginning, is that this year? Never seen them in the parks before.

Pixie is just too cute and you captured some great shots there :cutie:

Can't wait to read more :teeth:

Thank you!
Yes, the food on Lufthansa is pretty good - especially if you consider that they serve this in economy class! :thumbsup2

The Musketeer photo is pretty old. It was one of my first character photos - they were just closing the line and asked if we wanted to jump in - and we did! We had a blast with the characters and since we were last they were up to a bit of mischief! ;)

Thanks for your comments on Pixie! She is our darling little princess!

:confused3

Spoiled kitties are the best! ;)
Oh I love the little story about the kitty making you "serve" water to her. Ours has a running water fountain, but she prefers coffee cream! She has a way to demand it too!
And I love that so many people take in strays and spoil them. Ours is not allowed outside - she is a strictly indoor cat and because of that she gets everything she wants and is served on hand and paw! :lmao:

Remember - dogs have owners, cats have servants! ;) :rotfl2:

How frustrating it is when there is a snag with the hotel reservation. :confused3 Believe it or not... Our stay at POR 2/2010... the reservation got lost. It was a mess. Check in took hours... and it was days before all our dp credits were in place properly. Your room does look pretty comfy though!!!

WGPE .... Yummm... again before breakfast here. (:rotfl: I know...dinner for you)

We could NOT believe that there AGAIN was a "hickup" in our reservation! I was so happy I had printed out my confirmation in English and that I had booked it through a travel website!
But your ordeal sounds a lot more horrible than ours! Hours to check in! :scared1: Yikes, I don't even want to think about it! and DDP credits not working - no thank you! Hope it got all straightened out in the end! :goodvibes

:lmao: Was there any other way to start your Disney vacation then with WPE? :rotfl: I love reading your pre- & trip reports. Hurry and finish this one!!! :rotfl2:

IS there another way to start a Disney vacation than at WPE? :rotfl2: Well, not for us anyway!

Wow, can't believe that happened to you again. Thank goodness you were able to get a room for the night.

We could not believe it either! It was like deja vue! But at least they had a room for us this time and we did not have to drive across Orlando again!
The room was nice for the night, our room had a view of the the inner courtyard and the pool and was quite quiet!

Karin,
I'm here! Going back to catch up.
:cool1:

Hi! Welcome home!
So good to have you on board again! :thumbsup2

Great update! It's really too bad they messed up reservations AGAIN!! Good thing they had open rooms.

Wow, what a wait at immigrations! I'm glad I don't have to go through that when I get to MCO.

Mmm, sandwiches from Wolfgang Puck look very good!

Thank you, Yuki!
We were shocked it happened again! I was really worried and thought about where we would spend our first night. And since it was so close to DTD I thought we'd give it another try - well, as I said before, I guess we will just stay value for the first night next time! ;)

Hi Karin, we are excited about a DISmeet in Sept. Just email me when you are ready to plan.:thumbsup2

Pics of WPE food are always appetizing! I know that that is the first place we will go after check-in.

We HAVE to get together! Once I am a bit more organized I will PM you and Wicket's Mom and we can get this show on the road!

Yeah for starting your trip at WPE!!! ;) :goodvibes

Yes, claire (and I) is very excited and can hardly wait for our trip. Skips brother broke his leg and we have worried he may not be able to go now, as if his brother can't walk, then Skip has to stay home. if that becomes the case, we will take my DD Paige. At this point Skip is still planning on coming though.
Claire still keeps talking about your post card. She loves that you said Mickey is counting down the days till she comes. She really believes that! :thumbsup2

I can't believe how they keep messing you your reservations ther at that hotel.

I really hope Skip can come along on the trip! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Your pre-trippie just moves to fast - I am not all caught up yet, sorry!

I am glad that I picked the right words to get Claire excited! She is such a sweet little girl and she must be so excited about her upcoming trip right now!

That is just the worst feeling showing up and the reservation is not there.
Especially after travelling so far, you just want it to go smoothly.

I am sorry for the loss of your first kitty that was very hard for you both. I am so glad Pixie found you and you found Pixie,

Karin & Ter1, a Dis meet would be so great! I just love these forums. Karin, you have help me to decide on WPE. I never wanted to go there until your reports, so now I'm down for WPE!

I gte to make my ADRs Wednesday! :cool1:

Yeah for ADR day!
And since we all seem to be at Disney at the same time - the meet is definitely on! :thumbsup2
You won't be disappointed by WPE! The food is real yummy - well, apart from the pumpkin soup, which is real sweet, but then I am biased, as we have REAL good and spicy pumpkin soup here! ;)

Those rooms look really nice! What I liked even more was the food from WP's...oh how I love that place and never can I have enough of it!!!

The room was quite okay for the night. And it was at an outstanding rate!
Isn't WPE the VERY best value for money? Such good food ...... and it is actually served to you! :woohoo:

Oh Karin what a mix up with the reservation !!! By now you know our plan is for off site the first night !! But I will call a month ahead and check they have the reservation !!!I have stayed at Country Inns before and always found them great !!I am booking thru hotels .com and the rate is really good !!

It's the second time this has happened at exactly the same hotel. We did stay offsite at other real low cost hotels (Red Roof Inn and Motel 6) and never had any problems. The only reason to stay there was because it is so close to DTD. Well, we survived and just like you we got a great rate and the room was nice in the end! I went through bookings which I have used lots of times before and it always worked out - the Clarion, and whatever it has been before that, just doesn't want to make it easy for us! :lmao:

90 minutes for immigration?!?!?! Jeez that is totally absurd!

I stayed at the same hotel about a year ago. It was still Quality Inn then. I'm glad you found it acceptable, but it's what convinced me to never stay offsite again! The housekeeping was awful. We stayed there a LONG time ago when it was a Days Inn, Quality Inn, whatever and it was not bad. So when we were looking for something offsite it was one of the first things that came to mind. Last year our reservation was lost too AND they didn't have any more rooms, so we got to stay at the Shingle Creek resort! :thumbsup2
I had a reservation at the Red Roof Inn in Kissimmee before I decided to change it to the Clarion Inn :confused3 - well, I guess it IS what convinces me to stay onsite from now on! :thumbsup2

Ours was quite the hiccup, but we got through it. I think the worst part was the fact we got to the hotel so late and then didn't get to our room until much later. When I say hours to check in.. well, I may exaggerate a tad. We got to POR around 11:30pm and it was about 1:30am by the time we got to our room. So... some of that was check in and some of it was finding our room. As for ddp credits not working... they worked, it was just we didn't have enough of them. Once we "officially checked in" the next day we essentially set up a brand new reservation and since the check in date was different than the original we lost some of our credits. Basically, it wasn't too bad. We just had to go and have credits reversed once we used them. Course, it was actually days before mousekeeping realized that our "temporary" room had become our "permanent" one. :rotfl2: They quickly got that resolved though once the hair dryer caught fire. :rotfl2: It honestly was a fun trip!!! Just eventful.

I flew AirFrance out of New York City.

Oh, Airfrance doesn't have the best of reputation here in Europe. There are lots of strikes and service is lacking.
Best European airlines in my opinion - Austrian (which is a part of Staralliance), Lufthansa and KLM. I used to like BA but no longer - the service just isn't there any more. Haven't flown Virgin yet!
Next time you travel to Europe - go Lufthansa or Austrian if you can! :thumbsup2

Yes, thank god, they did find a room for us in the end! I was so happy I had printed out my confirmation in English - so helpful!

We tried WPE for the first time after they had renovated the restaurant and we fell in love with it. The food is awesome, you get to sit at a table and the food is brought out to you, your drinks are refilled and best of all ...... Wolfgang is Austrian! :rotfl2:
I really hope you get a chance to visit! :thumbsup2

Okay...I'm VERY late, but I'm here. Now I have to go back and read to catch up.

I know you have been pretty busy, Kathy and I am over the moon happy you joined us now! It was a fun trip and now you are going to hear version no 2 and 3 (from Tina and myself) of the fun Dismeet!

Karin...where did I go wrong? Our first trip in Nov 09, we were so excited to try WPE especially for the creme brulee! When we arrived, they told us the CB was no longer available?! I understand there are 2 locations..please point me in the right direction!

There are two locations of WPE, one is at the Westside, actually it is in the same building as the WP Cafe. We usually visit the other one at Downtown Disney, pretty close to the Disney Christmas shop. And they still offer the Creme Brulee there! I had it only 10 days ago and it was yummy as always. They do run out of it sometimes! Maybe this is what happened to you!

We knew we would have a wait ahead of us at immigration - just not 90 minutes, but it was nothing compared to the 4 hours it once took us to stand in line in Washington! ;)
And thanks for setting my mind at ease about the no show fee IF we would really have had a reserveration at the Clarion in Jan! It didn't occur to me in the first place, but once we were munching our dinner it hit me that they would have charged me IF there had been a reservation in Jan.

Hi Karin,

We discussed where to stay for quite some time and I actually had a reservation at the Red Roof Inn in Kissimmee, but then decided that it was too far from WPE! :rotfl2:
I checked the BW at DTD, but it didn't get too many good reviews, so we went with the Clarion - well, live and learn - next time we will stay at a value for the first night (or the whole stay if airfare continues to soar like it does at the moment!)

But it is exactly what I was worried about because we would have checked in late as well, especially since it was President's Week.
But 2 hours from check in to be in the room especially at night, that IS quite something!
And I am glad they worked out your DDP credits in the end. ;)

Day 2, February 20

Friends, treats, a DREAM and finally a hotel room - Part 1

Even though it had been a late night we were both up early. :goodvibes

We wanted to be out of the room and checked out by 7am and Tom decided to make some coffee while I remembered that I still had to put our goody bags together for our DISmeet.
I had thought long and hard about HOW I was going to pack my suitcases and we put everything we would need in our carry on, so we would not have to open our luggage. ;)
Turns out that I had packed the goodie bags and their content in one of the suitcases, right at the bottom of it, so they would not get crinkled. So, while I was combing through the suitcase Tom proceeded to make some coffee.
He washed the coffee pot, poured some water in it and poured it into the coffee maker which overflowed instantly. On closer inspection the coffee machine was already full of water, so he poured it out, washed it and filled it with water just to discover that the coffee machine didn't work.
Now that explained why there was water in it in the first place. So instead of having coffee we share a Diet Coke and took showers.
Once we were ready we carried all our stuff downstairs, Tom went to get the car, and everything got loaded in. Um, where’s my little yellow folder with my check-in paperwork? So we unloaded again, searched for the folder, found it and loaded everything back into the car.

Tom let me get off the car at the entrance to the hotel, I settled the bill and off we went.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9516.jpg

It was 25 past 7 and our DISmeet was scheduled to be at 7.45. We were sure we would be able to make it in time, especially since we had decided on having our car Valet parked at the Beach Club Resort.
So we drove over to the Resort and at the Gate we are asked if we wanted to check in and so we told the guard that we wanted to meet friends for breakfast. He waved us in and told us to drive to the right and self park and to have fun. Hm, being able to self park during President’s Weekend is pretty neat!

So we drove over to the self park area, found a spot pretty close to the hotel, took our goodie bags and off we went. We reached the lobby 20 minutes to 8, so we were perfectly on time. I got mixed up there for a moment thinking that I was at the Yacht Club and turned to my left, but okay, the restaurant was to my right. And while we walked up to the restaurant, I could see THEM! :cloud9:
The DISfriends I had been exchanging posts with for quite some time. Here they were in “real life”.
We hugged and it felt like we had known each other forever. Little Max noticed that Tom was holding a Cars bag and started talking about it, and YES, Max – you can have it, it’s your bag!
Right after we had hugged and exchanged the first few sentences we were led inside the restaurant. We had a large round table towards the back of the restaurant and everyone found a seat and we started talking about how vacations had been so far and our experience upon entering the country.

Awww...thanks... I so wish we could back in August. If I had stayed at my old job, I'd be off 'till the end of August, so a trip overlapping would have been do-able, at least from a calendar standpoint. Of course, I wouldn't be making enough money to go to Disney in the first place, so... there is that!

I should know in the next six weeks or so when we'll be able to go back. Come July we will either be moving or going to Disneyworld! :rotfl: Either way, I'm good! :thumbsup2 I've found some really good deals on-line, particularly if I'm willing to book through places other than Disney...but we'll see... Definitely next February!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9516.jpg

Yay, a DISmeet. I totally want to do one of those someday!

You sound like me with the packing. I always think I have things laid out perfectly, and then BAM! I realize that I put something somewhere that is not convenient.

The nice thing about staying on Disney property is you can mail yourself a package. I mailed our FE gifts for our cruise to POP and just carried them on to the ship with us. I will probably do the same thing next time. I have no room in my luggage at all :rotfl:

What a great morning so far! There is nothing like a Dis-meet and you are so right when you say it's like meeting old friends!! We had a blast at our Dis-meets over the last couple of years and can't wait for the ones we have planned so far for August!! I can't wait to hear more...and your pictures are awesome!:cool1:

That's it! We tried the one attached to the cafe. So the one you eat at would then be in Marketplace? I need to try and fit that in at the end of the month!! Thanks for the info.

Also, I just started my first PTR this morning for our trip in 20 days...stop by when you get a chance!

YES, we always go to the one at Marketplace! :thumbsup2 You need to try and go there, and if Maritsa is working, give her a hug from us and tell her she's the best! ;)

Awww...fun DisMeet! Reading Tina's TR now...max is a cutie!

Max is just adoreable! Even cuter in real life! :goodvibes
The meet was great - and there are lots more photos to come! Day 2 is a pretty long report! :lmao:

LOL, ok so when I say fire... again :rolleyes1 I may exaggerate a tad. Flames no... multiple sparks shooting out, yes. Yes, it was one to tell... but I did not do a TR. It was not until our next trip that I wrote a PTR or a TR. Our 2/2010 trip was a long one though..and it would have been a VERY long TR. :rotfl:

Oh your dismeet looks fun!

Sparks are more than enough for me - this works as fire for me! :rotfl2:

The meet was just SOOOOOO much fun! Such open, warm and sweet people! Hope we can squeeze in one or two more this summer! ;)

the DISmeet sounds awesome! I am still contact with some of my DIS friends from my previous cruises. :lovestruc What a great community we have here:)

We loved ALL our Dismeets so far! They have all been so much fun and we have met the most wonderful people! :thumbsup2
And we hope to meet two fellow cruisers again this summer too! Teri1 and her husband Mick were seated at the same table as Tom and I and we had a blast together. Our trips in the summer overlap by a day, so we are planning a meet then! :woohoo:

Oh, it was wonderful, wasn't it? I'm not going to say too much else here and it will be awhile before I get to this point on my TR! But it was fantastic! :dance3:

Oh, it's a shame we will miss you in the summer, but I would be really happy for you if it worked out in your favour! Fingers crossed, and toes too! Just promise me to let me spend another pool day with sweet little Max the next time our trips overlap! ;) :thumbsup2

Meeting you and your family and Nicki and Todd was the absolute PERFECT start to our vacation! Thanks all of you for making it extra special for us!

Yay, a DISmeet. I totally want to do one of those someday!

You sound like me with the packing. I always think I have things laid out perfectly, and then BAM! I realize that I put something somewhere that is not convenient.

Oh, you HAVE to do one! These meets are the BEST! All our meets have worked out fine so far and people were just extra nice!
I don't know what got into me packing those goodie bags in the bottom of our suitcase! :lmao: I really thought I had nailed that one - well, not so much, I guess! :lmao:

That's a wonderful meet!! :goodvibes Very often it is like that- you have been chatting on here forever, and when you meet in person, it just feels so perfect!! :goodvibes

Ellen, you should have been there! We had such a fun time together - there are lots more photos to come - we didn't eat much, but we had FUN!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

That's a nice perk for you! I wish it would work for us, but mailing a parcel to the US is more expensive than taking an extra suitcase! And at the moment the US does not accept parcels heavier than 1 lb from outside the US (unless you want to be overcharged and do LOADS of paperwork). ;)

Tom and I are always a bit worried when we meet "new" people - English is not our first language and it can sometimes be hard to keep a conversation going - not so much with the people we have met on DISmeets so far - instant friends!
You are going in August? WHEN? We will be there from the 13th until the 21st when we go on board the DREAM for 11 nights - then it is back to WDW on Sept 1!

Day 2, February 20

Friends, treats, a DREAM and finally a hotel room - Part 2

Right after we had hugged and exchanged the first few sentences we were led inside the restaurant. We had a large round table towards the back of the restaurant and everyone found a seat and we started talking about how vacations had been so far and our experience upon entering the country.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/DSC_0002.jpg

Our server came by, introduced himself and announced the characters and asked for our drinks orders and then it was time to hand out our goodie bags. One for Tina and Mark and one for Nicki and Todd. Turns out we not only handed out gifts we were given some too! :goodvibes
Tina had got us the cutest custom made scarfs with our DIS names on it, which will come in pretty handy on the DREAM in the summer and definitely in the winter – the gold coloured scarf matches my black coat perfectly.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/DSC_0001.jpg

Nicki handed out HUGE bags shock full of Disney snacks. Yum, yum, yum! There turned out to be so many snacks we got this trip that I took a whole carryon FULL of leftover snacks home.

Food was not really important as we had so much fun talking, talking photos of little Max meeting characters

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9544.jpg

Mark was wearing a birthday button, so he was served a cupcake and sung to

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/DSC_0004.jpg

and Max was happy to help nibbling the cupcake.

I think none of us got our money's worth, but it didn’t matter at all, we were just happy chatting and having fun. All too fast we realized that we had occupied the table for about 90 minutes and we paid our bills and went outside to take a few photos to remember this wonderful moment.

Right there and then, Nicki was able to reach Kathy and we were taking turns in talking to her. It was so fun to finally hear her voice and be able to talk to her. Made this meet even more special if that is even possible! :yay:

It was beautiful outside and we took turns who would be in the photos and who would take them

and finally found a good soul who would take a photo of all of us with several different cameras.

Time seemed to have flown by and it was time to say goodbye.
Tina and her family wanted to head into Epcot, while Nicki and Todd needed to check out of the Swolphin. We changed our plans and decided against going into Epcot and instead drive to Downtown Disney.

I am glad you were able to get all of your ADRs and at the right times, but it amazes me that a company like Disney has a site that is prone to shutting down and crashing so often!
When I made my ADRs I had to kind of try all different approaches to even get to the site and then it kept giving me error codes!
I waited a while and then it seemed to work perfectly.

More updates coming up shortly - it was a LONG week with lots of work at school, that means "little" DIS time! ;)

Meeting you and Tom and Tina, Mark and Max was the most fun ever! Both Todd and I wish we could have stayed longer with all of you but he had to get back to work early the next day....bummer!

Any chance you will get to WDW in late May?

Can you believe Kathy is giving me grief for waking her up? :rotfl: I must have told her a million times that I would be calling her that morning so she could be there in voice if not in person...dont worry I will get her back when she comes to FL next month :lmao:

The pictures look great! I hope you can find the one of us as a group...I bet that looks nice too!

Next time we have a meet we should do it on the beach at the Poly with some nice cocktails in hand! None of us ate a bit but I did notice that you snuck in your food plates...when did you do that? I bet it was Tom, he is a master photographer :thumbsup2

I must tell you this, my oldest niece knows that I have a very large book collection (she is a very avid reader as well) and she comes over to stay with me all the time. She picked out the book from Austria that you and Tom gave us and started looking through it. She could not get over how gorgeous Austria was...every time she comes over that is the first thing she gets is that book. Being a Floridian kid she has never seen mountains, snow and green pastures like that before. Now her dream is to visit there one day....hmmmm...maybe her aunt could go with her??? I bet I know someone that could give us a tour! :cutie:

Miss both of you, cannot wait to hear the rest of the story.

Hi Nicki!

So good to hear from you!
The meet was definitely the BEST start to our vacation! We had so much fun and talk about it often - we really hope that we can repeat it some day! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately late May is out of the question for me! :sad2: But maybe we can lure you to WDW in September? Labor Day weekend would be fun to spend at WDW! ;) :lmao:

I know Tom takes great photos, but I am in charge of food photos! :rotfl2: I think you didn't even notice that I snuck up to the buffet and took some photos! :rotfl2: Well, I have learned from the BEST, YOU!!!!!!!!

Your niece has real good "vacation taste" and I think her aunt should come along - it's not good to let a young lady travel on her own! ;)

And yes, Austria IS beautiful, but I have to warn you - it is NOT as sunny and warm as Florida. ;)
Your tourguide is standing by - only waiting for the "go ahead" from you!

September 2 is our last day at WDW:sad2:so if we could all meet up it would be something to look forward to and maybe we wouldn't be so sad:rotfl2: We have absolutely no plans that day so I'm sure between us we can figure something out!!!

I am sure we can come up with something fun on September 2nd! I am really looking forward to it! Yippie!!! :woohoo:

Wow what an awesome Dis Meet, looks like you had so much :goodvibes Bet you have taken home so many memories from that day and made some firm friends for life :goodvibes

They are all such nice people, Stefy! It was so wonderful that we were not only friends in cyberspace, but it was EASY to get along in real life as well. And to be honest, not just get along, I felt like I had known them all all my life!

I hope that we will manage a meet in September.

Yes, I was really aggravated trying to make those dining reservations. That site kept giving me errors & I was too early to make ressies. I had to keep going from one place to another to be able to make reservations. The warm CM that I talked to on the phone made it all worthwhile.

Got Yachtman, 50's Prime Time, Chef Mickey's, Coral Reef, Le Cellier, Rose & Crown & finally Teppan Edo. Some for the kids & some for the adults :cool1:

I posted this on my summer pre-trip report too, so if you have already read it, please skip!

A little REAL LIFE update!

Now that we have been back from our half term vacation for 2 weeks already, life slowly returns back to normal.

It was a bit hard to go back the day after we returned from vacation, and Tom fell ill on Monday, so was home for a week.
I had a few extra things to do for school, I started my trip report and I worked on our photopass CD.
I usually pre-purchase a CD (love to save 50$ :thumbsup2) and we have as many photos taken as we can.
This year it was a bit different - yes, I did pre-purchase the CD, but made sure the code does not expire! :goodvibes
We had about 100 photos taken and went on the Wild Africa Trek, which added another 130 photos, and at the end we got a gift certificate including a code for a photopass CD. I asked if they would let us combine the photos and they said it was perfectly okay and to just go ahead.
So over the last 2 weeks I worked on the photos, putting every available border around it, but the system is constantly VERY slow and only today did I finish my work and let me tell you, I topped them all up to a whopping 997 photos! :rotfl2:

So when I was done and had checked them again I went and tried if the code would work!
IT WORKED ........ :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: THEY EVEN PAY FOR SHIPPING TO AUSTRIA!!!!!!!! Isn't that awesome? :cool1: I love you Disney!
As soon as we receive the CD I'll post some of the photos, we have a few fun images in there! :lmao:

The other Disney themed project I started this weekend was my first Fish Extender gift for this summer. :cloud9:
I can't reveal what it is going to be right now, as I do not know if any of my fellow cruisers stop in here but I can tell you that it is a knitted project and I made a prototype this weekend and it turned out to be real cute!
We need to come up with 7 different presents :scared1: for our 11 day cruise, to not repeat the gifts for the back to back cruisers.
Tom and I like to give little home-made gifts daily, that's why we will need to do a LOT of presents! :rotfl2:

And here are today's news! ;)

Got an email from Disney photopass today! :thumbsup2

They have already mailed out our CD - I cannot believe HOW FAST they work!
Can't wait for it to arrive! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

And NOW it it time for planning the next trip! :woohoo:

Day 2, February 20

Friends, treats, a DREAM and finally a hotel room - Part 3

We changed our plans and decided against going to Epcot and instead drive to Downtown Disney.

It was only past 10am and when I had done online check-in I had noted that we would check in around midday.
Maybe our room would already be ready. Happily to have met such nice friends we walked back to the car and drove to Downtown Disney.
We found a spot right behind the Once Upon A Toy Store and started our exploration right there.

Walked through the store and were amazed on quite a lot of new merchandise. We then slowly made our way towards the World of Disney, where we checked for new merchandise too and found PLENTY of it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9550.jpg

I had a look at the Dooney and Burkes and there were several that looked interesting.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/live%20update/IMG_9938.jpg

On the way back to the car we walked into the Ghirardelli Store, tried a milk chocolate caramel square and decided why not have an ice-cream sundae.

So we placed our order and picked up a bottle of cold water.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9561.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9559.jpg

Tom ordered a Quake Shake - A chocolate bar infused milkshake. He chose Milk Chocolate and Peanut Butter with Vanilla Ice Cream,

while I ordered the Mint Bliss - one scoop of mint chip ice cream, one scoop of chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate hot fudge sauce, whipped cream and a square of Mint Bliss Intense Dark chocolate.
We were handed a stand with a number on it and went into the little ice-cream parlour to find a table. As soon as we had sat down at a table a couple came up and started taking photos of the picture on the wall.
We offered to get up, so we would not be in the photo should they decide to take a photo of the whole wall. By then the woman asked if we knew what a Hidden Mickey was and when we told her that yes, indeed we knew, she showed us a Hidden Mickey on it. We had sat close to this wall and the cable car a lot of times, but we had never noticed the Hidden Mickey and we quickly got up to take photos ourselves.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9552.jpg

Shortly later our treats were delivered. They were delicious and huge and we both were defeated by them. By then it was past 12pm and we decided to push our luck and try to check in at the Coronado Springs Resort.

Yay for finding the picture! We all look great and a big thanks to Max - a Million for picking the perfect location to have our picture taken! Way to go Max!

I am so sorry Tom was not feeling well at the end of your trip, nothing is worse than being sick but to be sick at WDW is horrible! I sure hope he feels better and tell him not to do that on the next trip :lmao:

Oh my, tons and tons of photopass pictures, wow are we all going to be in for a huge treat!

The mint sundae you had is right up my alley, I might try that after our Fultons dinner in May...although it is so hard to pass up my favorite peanut butter sundae...whats a girl to do? :confused3 AHA..get Todd to order one and I order the other and we share...problem solved :thumbsup2

You, my dear, have a purse addiction! I have yet to score one but maybe for our Oct trip I can buy my b-day present with Todd's money  Look what you bought me babe, a new purse!

His reaction? Well it would go like this "You mean a trip to Disney isnt enough of a gift?"

I've been sick for a while and getting that postcard.....it just touched my heart. Thank you SO MUCH for thinking of me during your trip and sending me this card! You are truly wonderful.

LOVE your new D&B bag! Still trying to figure out if there's a way for me to get a 40th anniversary bag without actually being there...

Mmmm, the Mint Bliss sounds like MY kind of milkshake. I LOVE mint chip!

What a fantastic dismeet! And those scarves look so nice too. I put the pin you gave me at our dismeet on one of my school bags and it just makes me smile every time I look down at it at school. Just turns my day around when I think about you.

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

Tom is feeling way better, thank you! :goodvibes He did better than I did the year before - I was down and out for a day at WDW! :scared1: :lmao:

I am a master of multiplying my photopass photos. ;) The CD is not cheap, so you really need to make the most of it! :lmao:

I LOVE mint chocolate chip icecream! And that sundae is sooooo good!

Hey, that's the purse I bought at the end of our trip! A girl needs to have some kind of addiction, hasn't she? ;)
Oh, and I am sure, Todd would be happy to buy you more than one of these bags! :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Aww...Max says hi and thank you! He talks about meeting all of you just like he talks about meeting the characters. :rotfl2:

And we have to try Ghiradelli's, as we never have...

I looked at the D&B stuff, as there were a couple I thought were cute, but I kept wishing the reasonably priced wristlet was more like a wallet inside. No dice. Oh well.

Oh, give the little man a huge hug from Tom and me! He is the cutest!

You have never been to Ghirardelli's???? :scared1: You need to get there - pronto! They give out free chocolate samples - mostly caramel chocolate! :lmao:

Oh, they do have wallets too! Unfortunately the one I got in the end was more expensive than the purse! :rotfl2:

Well Tina, Max is right...we are a couple of characters ;)

I second that! ;)

You always have the best looking treats! I am hoping to get over to Beaches and Cream this trip if all works out right

We went to Beaches and Cream too, that treat was from Ghirardelli's! Try a kitchen sink! They are great - literally! :thumbsup2
You are getting so close! Can you still stand the excitement? Can't wait for your TR - this should be so fun!

Your sundae looks wonderful!!! On the list for April!!

Yeah for putting the sundae on your list! It was yum yummy!! ;)

Man, that's a lot of photos! Definitely makes the photopass cd worth it though.

Man, your Ghirardelli pictures make me want to go there so bad right now!

Lots of FREE photos - even better! :rotfl2:
I could use a Ghirardelli sundae myself now too! :thumbsup2

Nothing better than a stop at Ghirardelli's...we always get the Gold Rush Sundae....oh I can just taste it now!:lovestruc

Yes, stopping at Ghirardelli is always a treat! If only for a free sample! :lmao:
Mmmh, I remember the Gold Rush too! But I just love me some mint chocolate chip ice-cream! ;)

Great trip report so far, can't wait to read more!!!

Thank you! So nice to have you on board, we have only just started, we had a week filled with lots of fun! :thumbsup2

Those sundaes look really good. Would you believe we've only been in there once! And that was last year to pick up the Disney Queen of Food Porn some special candy that she requested. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

You definitely need to go back there one day! The ice-cream is really good! And such a fun place to just sit and relax and people watch!

I love the D&B purses, you made some great choices. I always wanted a D&B purse, so I got one for my birthday a couple of years ago. I used only a month or so, because it is too heavy for me to carry. I loved it, but it hurts my neck.:sad2: I do have a few Vera Bradley purses & will be using one at WDW when we go in Sept.

That's a shame your purse was too heavy, I love my D&B's. (as if you hadn't known that already! :lmao:) One reason why I love my Vera Bradley's so much is that they are literally unknown here and they stand out! ;) I like to be a little different!

Hey Karin! I got the postcard you sent me during your trip and let me tell you, IT MADE MY DAY!!!

I am glad you got the postcard, Yuki! :goodvibes We were thinking of you and talking about you a lot this trip!
So sorry to hear that you were sick, I hope you are much better by now!

I am sure we can figure out a way to get you one of those 40th anniversary bags - there is lots of time until we leave! ;) :goodvibes

The meet was just wonderful. We had such a lot of fun! Watching little Max meeting the characters was the best!
It's nice to know that you use the little pin we gave you and to know that it makes you smile! :goodvibes

Those ocecream treats looked delish!!! I am impressed with your total PP pix !!Can't wait to see them!!!

Ghirardelli's is one of our first tastes of "America". We had chocolate and ice-creams there during our first visit to San Francisco. Ever since Ghirardelli holds a special memory for us!
I always end up with a lot of PP pics! So I can make "the most" of my photos! :rotfl2:

Yummy treats from Ghiradelli's, your mint sundae looks divine :)

More D&B's?!? Someone defo has a D&B addiction  V cute choices though :teeth:

We LOVE Ghirardelli's - well, I do more so than Tom, but then he is not such a lover of sweet treats! ;)

These actually are the D&B's I bought at the end of the trip and I posted those pics earlier, so I do not have as many as it looks here! :lmao:
But yes, I do own 5 pieces of D&B! ;)

Love, love, love the striped D&B purse

Oooh and love, love, love the ice cream as well

Thank you! You have very good taste indeed! :thumbsup2

Wow, Karin, that's going to be a LOT of photos on that CD!!! Can't wait to see them.... hope Tom is feeling better! By the way, I just LOVE his ears!! :rotfl:

Yip, again, I ended up with LOADS of photopass pics, and this time they all were FREE!!!! I love it, if Disney gives me a huge present! (Okay, now if only they could come up with an incredible AP discount for September! :rotfl2:)

Tom is feeling much better, thank you! Every year we take as many hat photos as we can - he makes a Christmas countdown calendar out of them and it is hilarious!

Hope Tom is feeling better !!!

He is feeling much better again, Rosie, thank you!

Rosie, you should definitely try Ghirardelli's some time. I think if you take all your family you could get an "Earthquake" - which is similar to the kitchen sink - HUGE!!! Or just share the real thing, a Kitchen Sink, at Beaches and Cream!
I did catch up on your thread, Rosie - the first night offsite and the Limo are a great idea! Can't wait to meet you in August!!!!!!!!!! :cloud9:

Day 2, February 20

Friends, treats, a DREAM and finally a hotel room - Part 4

By then it was past 12pm and we decided to push our luck and try to check in at the Coronado Springs Resort.

The year before we had been intrigued by our friend Kathy’s report to stay there and indeed did have a wonderful time.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Hakuna/IMG_4169.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Hakuna/IMG_4171.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Hakuna/IMG_4175.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Hakuna/IMG_4176.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Hakuna/IMG_4179.jpg

Early check-in and the room was ready, we were upgraded from a standard view to a “double” water view (lake and quiet pool) and had the best service.

So we had something to look forward to. Once we got to the resort we parked the car and walked over to the on-line check in counter.
One Cast Member was helping an unhappy guest and another Cast Member, who was earning her ears was looking at us, then back at her computer, glanced over again and NO we hadn’t vanished, so she waved us over to her. I handed her my reservation and she didn’t talk much, just repeated our information, then handed me a calculator with a number I could barely read and in a very unfriendly voice said, “That’s not paid yet!”

Um, yes, I know, but whenever I have a room only reservation I pay at check in and girl, you have my credit card information anyway.
She turned around and took care of my bill, then told us that our room was not ready yet.

Did we have a phone?

Yes.

An American phone?

No girl, we are from Austria, so our phone is an international one.

Then Disney will not call us, we have to call Disney.

Okay.

By then I was a bit annoyed with her and I asked if she could give me a time on when to expect that our room would be ready. She had no idea and said to just check back from time to time.
We were glad when we were able to leave the front desk and went to check out the resort store.

After we had seen everything there was to see and had cooled down from our front desk experience we thought about what we could do.

Why not go and have some lunch somewhere. Well, I remembered that the Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort offered one of the new designer burgers.
And since we had quite some time to kill we walked back to the car, got in and drove to Port Orleans French Quarter.
We walked right into the restaurant and there were only very few people.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9568.jpg

After checking the menus we decided on ordering

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9562.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9563.jpg

a Cheese Steak Sandwich and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9564.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9565.jpg

a Creole burger topped with crispy popcorn shrimp and remoulade sauce.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9567.jpg

We picked up a bag of Disney tortilla chips and got two Diet Cokes before heading to a table near the windows.

The Creole burger was really nice, but we both didn’t really like the Cheese Steak Sandwich.
We nibbled on our tortilla chips and when we were finally done we walked over to the store to check it out. Once we were done in the shop we walked around the resort for a while and since it was already 2.30pm we walked to the front desk and asked which of the two numbers on the little card we had to call.

Now the question is ........ will our room be ready yet?

Hi Karin,
Well that girl sounds like she was not meant to be in a position dealing with the public, some people are just not cut out for it. I bet she won't last very long.
Who knows maybe she is like that all the time, publice or not.

Hi Karin! I missed posting after your Ice Cream treat - it seems the DIS turns off at midnight each night, and that's about the time I'm here. I'll try to hurry this time! Of course, I love the bags, and the Ice Cream looks wonderful! I'm hoping we will visit G's when we are in SF on our Disney Cruise next month!

Love the hat! Tom looks like a mad scientist in that one!:rotfl:

That CM was certainly Un-Magical  I hope things get better. When we checked into Disneyland Hotel a few years ago, we had the same thing happen. We had a wonderful, sweet CM who got me an autographed Birthday pic and an upgraded view in honor of my birthday, but she said our room wasn't ready and we would have to call back perdiodically to see if it was ready. I thought that was a little strange. :confused3

Karin I am enjoying the pics of CSR, since we are staying there a couple of nights before our cruise. We have stayed at WDW many times and I am used to some CM at the resorts being less than magical. Like you, we try not to let it set the tone for our vacation. I don't expect perfection from a WDW vacation and when it is perfect, it's like icing on the cake. I hope the rest of your stay was pleasant.

She really stunned me! And what's more was that there were a few CMs standing behind her, just chatting!

The burger was seriously good! I think we will pop over to our FQ neighbours when we are back at our OKW retreat in the summer! Only 123 more days! :dance3:

What a horrible check-in experience. I sure hope I don't get that CM when I check in in two months!

This was my first real bad check in! ;) We had a wonderful time last year and I guess the difference between the two experiences was what stunned me so much!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for that she is "on break" when you'll check in! :goodvibes

Omigoodness what a horrible check in experience :( So sorry that happened, hopefully things got better after that.

Oh, the check-in isn't over yet! But I don't want to give too much away! :lmao:

The Burger was really good and it was well spiced, but not spicy hot!

FYI about the shrimp po boy at AK..the shrimp and such are very good but the bread wasnt great. I completely took it apart and made a shrimp salad out of it LOL

She was not in any Disney mood, let's just keep it at that!
We didn't like the cheese steak - we had a great one at The Plaza years ago, but this one just wasn't anything like it! All I could taste were the green peppers and onions! :sad2:

Karin, first, the pictures of my "home" are beautiful...thank you for sharing.

I knew you would like the photos, Kathy!

Well, her name tag read "earning my ears", so we assumed she was in training, but her attitude was just not Disney like and we did see her again! :lmao:

We loved the POFQ lunch - that's why we are so happy having a car, being able to go somewhere at the spur of the moment!
But please try the burger if you visit there again! :thumbsup2

And YES, we WILL go back for the burger - it was really yummy! :thumbsup2

Wow....what a harsh experience at check-in! No need to be so rude!

Were the popcorn chicken stuck together? Or did some fall out when you were eating it?

The check-in CM was definitely a first for us. :lmao: I really hope they train her well to avoid any more experiences like ours! :goodvibes

I LOVE Disney food too - that's why I run a lot of Dining reviews! :rotfl2: This trip we talked a lot about the fact, that we no longer go for the parks, but the food! :rotfl2:
To us, so many things you all take for granted are great things to do when on a US vacation, like visiting Malls. We don't have anything that big here, so a day offsite being window shopping is a treat too! :thumbsup2

Wow, that CM at check in sounds awful. I can't believe she told you to check back once in awhile to see if your room is ready. How rude!

The food at POFQ looks fantastic. Another possible CS location to add to the list.

She was not a very nice CM to come across! I wish I could say we didn't cross paths again, but yes, we did! :scared1: :lmao:

We loved the burger, the cheese steak not so much. And can you believe it, but we have never tried the beignets there! :sad2:

You are killing me with the food pictures. I have just caught up on 2 threads and both have wonderful food pics!
That CM needed a swift kick in the rear. I hope your room is ready soon!

You are killing ME with YOUR food pictures! ;)

I wish someone would have kicked that CM's behind! She really had a bad attitude that day!
The room, well, that is a different story! :rotfl2: Maybe the title of this thread could be a hint! ;)

I'm sorry the CM who checked you in was so rude! How very un-Disney! She was not follwing the second 'key to the kingdom' - COURTESY!

No, she definitely forgot about courtesy that day! ;)
I wish she could read what you all think of her! :rotfl2: I bet she would have another real grumpy day! :sad2:

Normally you'd think if people were "earning their ears" they would be trying extra hard to do a great job....they need to cut her loose now and cut their loses!!:lmao:

I hate to hear that the CM who checked you in was rude. Don't they realize that this is the start to your Disney vacation and it's supposed to be magical?

She definitely didn't understand what a Disney vacation was all about! ;) But at least she gave me an excuse to go to POFQ for lunch! :rotfl2:

Hi Karin,
Well that girl sounds like she was not meant to be in a position dealing with the public, some people are just not cut out for it. I bet she won't last very long.
Who knows maybe she is like that all the time, publice or not.
POR looks great, I am going to make it over there one of these days to have some biegnets with tons of powdered sugar.

I really hope, if she went on like that, that she did not last long. We are die hard Disney fans and can deal with a rude CM, even if we might not like it, but imagine a first timer coming across her! :scared1:

We have never had the beignets either! :lmao: But one day ........ :cloud9:

Oh my Goodness... I was in Disney February 19th-26th too! Exactly those dates! How funny. We stayed at Old Key West. I can't wait to start my trip report on it because it was SO fun, but I have to finish up my January TR first.

I'm loving your TR so far! I love love LOVE that you always take food pictures. It just makes the whole report! I can't wait to read more :)

Yeah! Same dates! It's a pity we didn't know beforehand, we could have had another little DISmeet! :thumbsup2

More food and adventures coming up - it was such a fun trip! Just had to deal with some real life issues, so that put a stop to the updates for a while. But on Friday I will start my Easter holiday and there should be lots of time for updates! :thumbsup2

:confused3

The DIS is down so often in the mornings (MY mornings ..... ;) :lmao:) and it is my preferred time for updates too!
You definitely have to visit Ghirardelli's in SF!!! I envy you so much of going there - it is one of our favourite cities!

Thanks for sharing your experience at DL - the call back thing IS a bit strange! If at least she had given us a time frame, but all she said was "just check!" :confused3
Well, we were at Disney, and that's all that counts! :thumbsup2

CSR is beautiful, Teri! There are lots more photos of the resort to come! ;)
We have had our fair share of "unmagical" CMs as well as magical ones. But after all the anticipation of getting to the resort it was just a slap in the face! :sad2:
We did not let it ruin our day, but it sure was a topic we talked about a lot!

Hello, my friend... Hope you're enjoying your weekend... or what's left of it, given the time difference. Its funny, we're at about the same places in our TRs. :lmao:

I did enjoy my weekend that week, Tina. But in the meantime, you have gotten far ahead of me in your trip report! ;) Real life, real life just got in the way! :lmao:

Just bumping this up!!

Thank you, Rosie!

Just checking in to see how your doing :flower3:

Doing fine so far! I am working on an update right now! :thumbsup2

Karin! I see how many reports you are writing concurrently (there's an English word for you! :goodvibes) I can't believe how many! Just checking in to make some popcorn! popcorn::

Thanks for adding another word to my repertoire! ;)

Sometimes I think I have too many! But there are so many fun Disney trips and so much food I wanna share with you all!

Update coming up!

Day 2, February 20

Friends, treats, a DREAM and finally a hotel room - Part 5

Once we were done in the shop we walked around the resort for a while and since it was already 2.30pm we walked to the front desk and asked which of the two numbers on the little card we had to call.

A very nice and friendly Cast Member did it for us and we were told that our room was not ready yet. :scared1:

We knew we needed to leave for Port Canaveral at around 3.30, so we decided to drive to Kissimmee and do a little souvenir window shopping.

At 3.30 we were back at the resort and since the card said that check in was any time after 3pm we were quite sure that our room would be ready by then.
Parked outside the Main Building again and walked in to the front desk.

Our “Cast Member friend” was still working and she seemed annoyed that we were back to ask about our room.
She looked at her computer and just said that it was “not ready yet” and to check back later.
I told her and the Cast Member who came over to help that now we had to take our luggage to Port Canaveral and that I would have preferred to leave it at the resort and her snippy answer was that they had bell services and we could carry it over there.
No thank you, we already needed to leave in a few minutes and we wanted to take Tina’s goodie bags which we had taken with us, so they didn’t have to carry them around, over to them.

Hopped into the car and drove over to the Cabanas to deliver the bags.
Tina and her family were taking a break and we chatted outside their door for a while and then it was really time to leave for Port Canaveral.

The drive was pretty uneventful and when we crossed one of the bridges we finally caught a glimpse of the DREAM.

The ship looked beautiful the way she lay there in the harbour. As every time when we drive to the Disney cruise terminal we missed the correct exit and had to turn around. We then drove close by the ship and took a lot of photos.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9579.jpg

It was great to see people on the Aqua Duck and hear the music of the Sailaway Party.

Then we were on our way out to Jetty Park. When we arrived there we were surprised to find the area really crowded.

We had been to Jetty park to see off the Disney Wonder before but never had we hit such huge crowds. We were real lucky to find a parking spot right by the pier and got our cameras and headed out to the pier.

Quite a way down the pier we found a good spot and waited for the DREAM to sail by. It took some time until she left the cruise terminal and made her way up along the harbour.

Right when she was close to us they started to greet everyone with the ship’s horn, and not just one signal, no they went through quite a few of them. You could not say who cheered louder, the people on board the DREAM or the people on the pier.

We stayed until the ship was far out in the ocean

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/DSC_0230.jpg

and then finally walked back to our car, loaded the cameras back in the trunk and started our drive back.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9580.jpg

The drive takes a little over an hour

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/February%202011/Day%2002%20-%20February%2020/IMG_9585.jpg

and by the time we were back we were really hoping that by then we would have a room.

Thanks goodness for your trip report! It makes my wait for October seem less:hug: The Dream looks beautiful! I have pics of that beach at Port Canavral too. I had never seen the ocean before our first Disney Cruise. It takes your breath away:3dglasses

I want to go on a cruise sooo bad!

Would it be terrible if I put my hubby into a food and drink induced coma and when he woke up he would be on the Disney Cruise? Do you think he would be mad at me? :rotfl2:

Let me work on him...I think I am growing on him. ;) You could go with us in 2013 for our 30th anniversary.

Karin, great update...and the pictures are great. Gee, I sure hope your room was ready or I'll be complaining a lot when I get there in September for the treatment you received.
