I have the Sony DSC-T100. I brought it about 4 years ago and it did get really good reviews.

However, when I take pictures of fireworks or shows that are in the dark (such as Illuminations) The picture quality is not good at all.

I even switched it to firework mode and the pictures were absolutely horrendous and all blurred. Worse when the camera was just in normal mode.

So, my question is, what compact camera would you recommend from your own personal experience?

I already have a DSLR so I would like a decent compact now.

Thanks for your help

Are you using a tripod? In my opinion, if you don't use a tripod (or put your camera somewhere to keep it steady), you'll never get a good result with an in the dark shot, whether they're in "fireworks" or any other mode, whether you're using a compact camera or a DSLR. If you're just holding your camera, there's your answer. In the fireworks mode the shutter speed is about 2 seconds, you'll never be able to keep your camera still when holding it.
What can help to keep your camera still, even if you're using a tripod, is use a 2sec self-timer - this way you avoid any movement of the camera whilst pressing the button.
If you were using a tripod, I can't really advise you. I've had several Sony compact cameras myself (have a DSC-HV5 now) and I found Sony's in the dark results mostly better in comparison to other brands.
BTW, a 4y old camera can be considered as "old" as the newest versions improved a lot. If you buy one of Sony's latest cameras and try to avoid the slightest movement, I'm sure you will get better results.
Good luck!

tripod, long shutter, higher iso should fix most compact camera fireworks problems.

tripod and long shutter if you don't have iso control.
