Point & Shoot Camera

I'm a huge fan of the Canon S90 (and now the newer S95).
Here's why:

1. it is a very good "auto" camera. If you are not a photographer or hobbyist looking to shoot in advanced modes, the camera takes very nice photos in auto mode.

2. low light photography is fantastic because of the lense. Tired of those indoor photos or family photos that look "blasted" by the camera's flash? The S90 (or S95) has a better (brighter) lense than most point and shoots
(f 2.0), this lense opens up bigger than most p&s cameras and therefore allows more light in and results in better low light photography.

3. Manual shooting. If you want to start learning more about photography (or if you already know), the S90 is fantastic in Av, Tv, and M shooting modes. It's a fun, easy camera to change the settings on with the lense dial... you don't get lost in on-screen menus every time you want to set the camera for a particular shot.

I mention the S95 because it is the newer model and one of the improvements is that it shoots HD video.

I will say that the Panasonix Lumix comes up a lot in the Point and shoot discussions so you may want to check that out too.

I was looking at this camera the other day. I want to get a small point and shoot camera for our next trip. I get tired of lugging my bigger camera around and thought I would just get a smaller one since I think I have taken so many Disney pictures with my nicer one.

I have a Panasonic FZ35. It's a point and shoot, but has lots of settings and takes great pictures. Also steves-digicams is a great site for reviewing cameras.

After owning quite a few, I have finally found one that I love. I have the Sony HX5. First off, it is small enough for my purse. It is great in low light on twilight mode with no flash. It has HD video. It also has sweep panaroma for landscape shots. There are a lot of different scene modes including intelligent. Finally,The 10X optical is nice to zoom in tight.:thumbsup2

I too am looking to purchase a new camera, I have been comparing a couple, they are, Canon SX2101S and SX1301S and the FujiFilm FinePix
F300EXR :confused3 I'm looking for something with more zoom then I have right now (3xoptical). Can the experts out there give me their thoughts? Don't want to break the bank and I want to keep the size down. Thanks!

Love the Canon G10. I is what I carry when I don't feel like lugging around my dslr. The picture quality is fantastic and if you learn how to really use all of the features, there are some great options. I like being able to manually adjust the shutter speed to capture my kids on the rides.

DD has the FZ35 and I have the more compact ZS3. DD had the Z28 but the 18 zoom was too hard to pass up, lol. We have been Lumix owners for the last 8 years or so...the Leica lens is sweet and the ease of use, awesome. The combo of DD's zoom and the portability of mine was great at WDW! Even the photography majors at DD's college give her Lumix a :thumbsup2.

Panasonic Lumix is very good, I bought one at Costco they have a 90 day no questions asked return policy. It gives you a chance to try it and see. I did that and I kept it, it's easier than carring my big Nikon and lenses around.

I'm looking for one as well. We had the sd1300 last trip and had it stolen from our stroller about 3 hours into our first day at the park. It was a nice little camera but it was a bit slow between taking photos.

I have basically settled between 2 cameras, wondering if I could get some opinions, I have done quite a bit of research.

Canon s95 - wonderfully rated cam, bit expensive but gets great reviews. One knock is it is a "slow" camera which I would prefer to not deal with. I need a camera that I don't have to wait 5 seconds between shots. Don't need rapid fire for action shots, but it is my experience, the more shots you can get off at once in a short time period the better. Our sd 1300 we had to seriously take a pic, wait 5-10 seconds for every thing to reset so we could take another. Just curious what peoples thoughts are that use this camera.

Panazonic Lumix ZS7 - another highly rated camera. Def can take better video and zoom is better. I've read on the cnet editors review it has trouble taking photos in low light situations. Any feed back on that?

That looks like a nice camera, can it fit in the pocket or no? Looks a little too big for that but still small enough to carry around.

Hi, I am also comparing camera's to take on our trip in May. I wanted one with a longer zoom but small enough for a small purse or cargo pocket on my husband. I like the look of the new Canon SX230. Has anyone had any experience with the new SDHC UHS-1 cards and can they be used on any SDHC camera? From what I can tell it is such a fast card it will allow faster picture taking and video taking if your camera allows. The Canon sight is of no help! Looking for someone who has actually used the card. Help anyone?

Check for an adjustment for how long the last picture taken stays still on the viewfinder. See if you can shorten that and then see the camera lets you take multiple pictures more quickly after that.

Thanks for the info as this is the first time visiting this board and I had the same question. I bought a Canon SD1300IS and took it on our Disney Dream cruise a few weeks ago. When I got home my heart was just broken - the pics taken in low light were terrible. Outdoors is another story - the color is beautiful, but low indoor cruise ship lighting - not so good. I was replacing my SD700IS which takes far better pictures (wish I'd just brought that one with me). I noticed a significant weight difference in the two cameras - perhaps cheaper parts?

I guess I'll either return the SD1300 or give it to my kids and shell out more $$ for the S95 (or perhaps jump ship from Canon and try a Lumix). Thanks again for the recommendations.
