School Swap

Sign ups will begin 9 am (Eastern time) February 28, 2011
Due Date: May 6, 2011. This is when I need to receive your package. The mail by date is April 29 to make sure the package arrives to me on time.

Required check-ins will be:

Newbies welcome, but, I will limit you to two groups.

I will pm you with a reminder if you forget to check in. After 48 hours with no response I will request angels for your spots. If you are going on vacation or will be out of town, please check in early. Please do not sign up for more than you can handle. If you need an angel, please ask for one as soon as possible.

After sign-ups, please pm me your name, DIS name, mailing address, email address and phone number when you sign up (I will only use these in an emergency).

This is an element only swap.

Group A-K: The requirements are for you to make 2 elements from the list below. Each element must be embellished at least once.

Element list:
Title = standard 8x2 topper (other sizes are okay), welded and shadowed letters, letters on squares, circles,mini tags or other shapes, a large title tag, title on a box, borders, photo mat, altered CD.
1 paper piecing (not a single layer diecut)
2 photomats for a 4x6 photo, 2 layers, smallest layer 4 ¼ x 6 ¼, embellished
2 journal boxes, total of 3 layers, minimum writing space 3x3, embellished
2 tags (or 1 large tag—greater than 2x3), 2 layers, something in the hole and embellished
1 file folder or matchbook (2 if mini) - -embellished
2 slide mounts -- embellished
Altered CD
3 altered paper clips
1 shaker box
1 library pocket and tag. Tag must be 2 layers with something in the hole, pocket must be embellished
1 license plate
3 shapes(squares, circles, stars, flowers etc) 2 layers, embellished
1 ATC
4 inchies
Signage/Bookmark: 1PP 2x6, double matted and embellished
Song/Lyric/Poem: 1PP, 3 layers in total and embellished. Min size 3x4, shapes are welcome
Altered letter: matted at least 4 inches

You can mix and match -- 1 tag and box, 1 photomat and box, 1 tag and 2 squares or shapes, etc.

******Please let me know if you have an idea not listed! We are open to new things.

Suggestions for embellishments include:
Die cuts, stickers, stickles, flock, ink, chalk, brads, charms, flowers, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, sewing, tearing, embossing, stamping, clipart, additional layers of paper beyond double mats (if it would look weird trying to fit in another embellishment, specialty paper (such as embossed, glitter, bling).

Groups L-O are altered letter only groups. You will make the first letter/number of the word only. Like, if you choose First Grade, you will do make a "1" and if you choose Preschool, you will make the P. Your letter/number is to be 4 inches, matted, and embellished at least once. You may use patterned and/or solid colored paper. Please be creative

For Groups P-Q, you will make one 2 inch letter of the word listed. Make your letter 2 inches, matted, and embellished at least once. Your top letter is cut at 2 inches and the mat can be the shadow. Use paper, embellishments, colors that fit the theme of the word. Like for PARTY which is a Halloween theme, you wouldn't use birthday party hats on it, but you might use purple paper and spiders. You may use patterned and/or solid colored paper. Please be creative.

Packaging: Place your completed elements in a Ziploc bag THAT FITS YOUR ELEMENTS (the bag MUST close) with your DISname, name and group letter. Do not address your items to a particular swapper. (That makes it harder for me to sort!) Your label should look like this

Take all of your baggies for a group and place them in GALLON size (or larger) bag, (for Groups L-Q, you may use a quart size bag) and label with the same. Please use the gallon bag (or larger) -- your items may fit in a smaller bag, but the items you receive back might not.
Please include a return address label -- either a USPS priority mail label that you have addressed, or the little ones you would put on envelope. (This cuts down on errors.)

Mailing: You may send to me, by any method you choose unless you are mailing after April 10. Then, you must mail Priority WITH Delivery Confirmation. * I prefer to send to you using flat rate boxes/envelopes from the USPS. Please include enough postage in your package for return shipping. The rates are: Envelope or Small Box (9”x6”x2”) - $5.20, Medium/Standard box – $10.95, Large - $14.95. PLEASE NOTE THE RECENT INCREASE IN SHIPPING RATES. If you want your items shipped to you with DC, please include the $.70, and a filled out slip. I will not mail the items back with delivery confirmation unless you include the $.70. And I am not responsible to for postal errors. Also, please include a label (can be the priority label completed with your info or a small address label) for me to use to return your items to you.

DO NOT include clik-it/ship-it postage. I will not be able to use it since it is only good on the day it was printed, and from the location it was printed.

I was not going to sign up for any swaps for awhile, but I'm working on DS's school book (trying to get it caught up before he graduates in June) and there are some things I could use. I'm mainly interested in the high school things. I don't know if there are enough swappers with older kids, but would it be possible to add another high school group that's geared towards seniors and we could see if there's any interest?

These are my thoughts for topics for that group:

High School Seniors - I know I have too many topics listed, but I just put down what was on DS's list of senior things for this year.
1. Senior Prom
2. Senior Portrait - I know this is in the other group, but it would be a good place for it if we go with this group
3. Cap & Gown - it would be good if we could create these to coordinate with each swapper's school colors
4. College Visit
5. Grad Bash/Night - this might not be a good topic since each school does something different and the swappers in that group would need to work together to individualize it
6. Convocation - I don't know if everyone does this, but it's on DS's list of things for senior year
7. Graduation

I don't know that we'd have enough interest for a group like this, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Yup, if you have kids, you will need these pieces sooner or later. And, even if you don't need certain grades or events yet, you will eventually. And, believe me, you don't want to wait until they are about to graduate to get busy on their books!!! My DS is a senior this year and I'm trying very hard to get his school and performance (theatre and chorus) books finished by the time he graduates. I was real good with them up to 7th grade, but now I have 8th-12th to do!!! All the pieces I've collected in the past 2 school swaps will definitely make this project a lot easier!

Cheryl, this swap is usually a smaller swap than most and, unfortunately, unless you have lots of kids, it's one of those that you only need that topic one time so you don't sign up every year for this swap. That's why I've only signed up for 2 groups, I have all the other topics I need - plus some!

When I hostess, I tend to have the minimum size of a group be 3. But, if you have a group of 2 and both of them want to do the group, then I let them do it.

My suggestion would be to leave sign-ups open until after next weekend. That way those swappers that don't get on much during the week have a chance.

I don't mind purple and orange together in some circumstances like scrapping, but it sure does make for interresting sports uniforms! :scared1: Neither color is the manliest of colors, so a lot of the boys are kinda embarrassed by it. At graduation boys wear purple and girls wear orange....you definitely need sunglasses!

Group JJ - My theme was Grad Night, but since it seemed I was the only one who could use that, I just put Grad on one of the circles and left the other blank. That way you can put what you want on it, like the year or 'Party' or a grad cap or whatever.

Also, each set has different solid colored cardstock, but they aren't in school colors.

They had a great time and were awesome! I'm trying hard to get "my feet under me", but, I'm really struggling. Don't really know why :confused3 And just for fun we have about 2 inches of snow this morning covering all the flowers and most likely killing the buds on my tree in the front yard. I could really use some sunshine--it's been cloudy and gloomy where ever I've been for almost 3 weeks, I feel like I've chased the sun into hiding ;)

Oh my goodness! You have to wonder what te home life is like, right? I am so thankful to be blessed with 3 great kids! I would not be happy getting the police called to te school 3 times for my child. And, if he is like this at 8, what will he be like when he is a teenager or adult? At that point, he will be big enough to physically take teachers over. What a shame.
