You hear it speak,

for it has a hard tongue.

But it cannot breathe,

for it has not a lung.

Good Morning Riddle Friends!

I am looking forward to a busy day today. We are closing the deal on a new (used) car for my 18-YO DS. He's going to school full-time and working part-time and has been borrowing our cars to get around. That has meant lots of confusion and driving gymnastics to make sure that everyone has gotten to where they need to be, when they need to be there!

This will make all of our lives a little simpler! :)

It's a '96 Honda Accord with 78K miles and it is in WONDERFUL shape. It has a 4-cylinder engine so it's not all that peppy.....a parents' dream! ;)

Morning OK and riddlers.

Congrats to Kick, Glo and SPB! I saw your 14999 yesterday and thought for sure you would wait until this morning to do the big 15,000, Bernie!

I know what you mean about the brain not working when the head is "stuffed", Glo. My allergies have been working overtime this week since I have been out at the new place where all the goldenrod abounds!

We now have a HUGE hole in the ground and lots of rocks to pick up.

Congrats on the "easy" wheels for the DS, Bernie. Our DS finally decided to go to college. He is coming over today so I can help him do the financial aid stuff. He is quite excited about it. Maybe it is best that he waited 9 years to do this!

oldkicker
09-19-2002, 05:55 AM
When are you planning to move into the new place, Diane?

It sure does seem that kids are going to do things when they are ready, doesn't it? We had hoped that my DS would be away at school this year, but he's just not ready to leave yet. While having two teenagers in the house is sometimes cause for great uproar, we're happy to have him here. :)

UPROAR! UPROAR!!!

Sounds like a car going too fast......teehee tee hee....:p :p :p

I like a bit of upheaval in the house. Makes me feel alive....just not at 3am, thank you very much!

Good Morning, Riddlers!

Yes, our DS had a difficult time right at the end of High school. He went to a private school to avoid some of the "problems", but in his senior year, his best friend hung himself in one of the classrooms over the lunch hour. A teach found him and took him down and started recussitation. He called out the door for help. As it turned out, Ryan was the one who answered the call. They did CPR until the ambulance arrived, but there was too much brain damage, and a few days later they turned off the machines. It was a very traumatic time for our son. It has taken a HUGE toll on his life. I am so glad he is trying to get back into the stream of things. He is planning to take architectural drafting as a 4 year program from Herzing College here in Minneapolis.

Ya' know, Gina - I can almost hear my teens thinking..."I wonder what THIS button does?" as they press all of mine!!

And upheaval knows no clock! :p

Diane, that is a terrible story. I can't imagine the heartache you've felt for your son and his friend. I'm sure it's been a long and difficult road back. Hugs to you.....

dianeschlicht
09-19-2002, 06:09 AM
Thanks, Gina. Yes, and it was complicated by the loss of my mother (and DS's favorite grandmother) shortly before that. I often wonder how different his life would be if this had not happened.

Welcome to the DIS CB
http://worldzone.net/travel/oldkicker//oldkicker/jeopardy.gif
game!

http://worldzone.net/travel/oldkicker//oldkicker/trebek8.jpg

This is going to be the slowest-moving Jeopardy game you've ever seen. Other than that, it should work much like good old Jeopardy did, except that anyone can join in any time and play for as long as they like.

Each weekday, sometime between 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. eastern time, I'll post the answer. Your job is to supply the question. Post your questions right on this thread. The first to post the correct question will get the points for that question. You'll also have control of the board and can select the next answer.

No deduction will be made for incorrect answers. So have some fun with it!

I'll accept answers through noon - 12:30 p.m. eastern time. (The exact time will depend on my work schedule). I will try to give a final notice a few moments ahead of time so that you can post your last-minute thoughts. Note that ALL wrong questions posted will be penalized. At that time I'll post the correct question and adjust point totals and I'll ask the DISer who got the correct question to select the next answer. You'll have until 7:30 - 8:30 the following weekday to let me know.

I recognize that post editing can happen, but I'm putting that thought out of mind, knowing as I do the wonderful integrity of all of our CB community......besides - it's only a game.

Note that the answers and questions will increase in difficulty as the point values rise. There will also be one Daily Double in the Jeopardy round and two in the Double Jeopardy round. If you hit the daily double you can wager any portion of your current points or up to 150 points in the Jeopardy round and 300 points in the Double Jeopardy round if you find your point total to be less than 150 or 300 in those respective rounds. (These amounts may change. I'm worried that there may be enough players to dilute the ability to score points without the Daily Doubles and that someone may answer JUST the Daily Doubles and win the game.)

After the two Jeopardy rounds are played, all DISers who have a positive point total will get to play Final Jeopardy. In that round, I'll post a category and give you a day to PM me your wager. You can wager any part or all of your points. After all of the wagers have been received, I'll post the Final Jeopardy answer. All left playing will then PM me their Final Jeopardy question.

I'll post the results after that!

The winner will get a fabulous prize from yours truly. Perhaps it will be something smart-looking...;)

Did I mention that kibitzing is strongly encouraged? :jester:
====================

Continuing the Jeopardy test...

Baboo got yesterday's question and has earned 30 points.
Breezy has 20 points
CarolG has 10 points.

Yesterday's Answer and Question....(All In A Word, 30 Points):
A Rhinologist specializes in this body part

diane - I was very sad to read through your son's tragic experience. What an awful thing to have gone through. :( I wish him success and joy in his next education experience. Looking forward to a few pics of the construction progress.

Fighting a cold today myself. DD had it over the weekend bad - lasted through til yesterday. She seemed alot better last night. Now I have a runny nose and sore throat. Unfortunately...
