Rides / Attractions ~ 2" Words & 4" Altered Letters Swap

Information for the Rides / Attractions letter swap (Groups in the next post)
Sign ups will open on Thursday Feb. 24th starting at 9am EST. Due date is May 20th. This thread will become the sign-up thread at that time and the progress thread after.

Newbies are welcome. If you haven't swapped with us on this board before, then I will limit you to 2 groups.

There are 2 different types of groups listed:
1.) The first set is for 2-inch embellished letters

After sign-ups, please pm me your name, DIS name, mailing address, email address and phone number when you sign up (I will only use these in an emergency).

Groups 1-38 are 2" letter groups.The letters each swapper will individually make can be combined to spell out the entire word on your scrapbook page. Make your specified letter(s) 2 inches tall with a shadow/mat behind it. Embellish your letter(s) at least once to go along with the theme of the title. You may use patterned paper or solid colored cardstock. Please be creative and use colors that represent your group selection.
***IMPORTANT NOTE*** For Longer titles, please TRY to choose a font that is NOT WIDE. The Mickey Font Cricut Cartridge is a wider font for example. Width is a tough one, because the fewer letters are in a word, the wider we can go. Make your individual letters with the assumption that the longer completed words would expand across a 2 page layout. Sometimes you end up with words on both the top and the bottom of a layout. Take the word "Frontierland" for example. That is 12 letters, in order to fit across a two-page layout, the letters need to be a smaller width than 2” (24”/12 letters minus a little so there can be a gap between letters when they are laid out). But with the words "Magic Kingdom", you could theoretically put “Magic” at the top of a layout, and "Kingdom" at the bottom, so you can go wider with your letters. Just be mindful of how the word will fit on a page. Basically, this means that not everyone can use a wide font like the Mickey font, with a large single word. Keep in mind also that we may need to overlap letters slightly for titles with even longer words like "Adventureland" (13 letters) so embellish them accordingly. Shorter words like "Africa" for example are not an issue--it's just the longer single words that get tricky. If you are unclear on this or have questions, please ask me. *Note - I borrowed this from mycutiepatooties' lands and parks swap. The long words may not pertain to this swap as much as they can be split up easier on the pages.

Groups A-G are 4" altered letter groups. Make a 4" letter, matted, and embellished at least once. You may use patterned and solid colored paper. Please be creative. You are making the first letter of the word only. An example is: You are in Group A and chose S for Space Mountain. You will make a 4 inch S and when everyone gets it back they can add "pace Mountain" to it anyway they want or just use the "S" on their page to represent Space Mountain.

Suggestions for embellishments include:
Die cuts, stickers, stickles, flock, ink, chalk, brads, charms, flowers, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, sewing, tearing, embossing, stamping, clipart, additional layers of paper beyond double mats and specialty paper (such as embossed, glitter, Bling).

Packaging: Place your completed elements in a Ziploc bag THAT FITS YOUR LETTER(S). The bag MUST close. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use a bag that closes. Bags that do not close make the sorting harder than it needs to be. One piece falls out of a bag and then I have to check every bag to see where it goes. Label your bag with your DISname, name and group letter. Do not address your items to a particular swapper. (That makes it harder for me to sort!) Your label should look like this:

For All 2 inch Letter Groups: Please put identical letters from a group into a sandwich size bag. Please be sure it is labeled clearly and that none of your letters are sticky or have pieces that could break off or damage another letter. For example: If you choose 2 letters for Group 1 ASTRO ORBITER and you make 6 R’s and 6 E's then you will put all 6 R’s in a labeled sandwich size baggie and all 6 E’s in a different labeled sandwich size baggie and put BOTH of those bags in a Quart size baggie that is labeled. If you want to bag every single letter individually, you can but you don’t need to unless your letters are sticky or fragile and need to be separate to keep them intact and keep items safe.

For All 4 inch Letter Groups: Please put each letter in its own labeled baggie and put all the baggies into a QUART or GALLON size labeled baggie. Everything needs to be in a separate bag for this.

Mailing:
* You may send to me, by any method you choose unless you are mailing after April 10 [note this is before the mail by date]. Then, you must mail Priority WITH Delivery Confirmation.
* I prefer to send to you using flat rate boxes/envelopes from the USPS. Please include enough postage in your package for return shipping. The rates are: Envelope or Small Box (9”x6”x2”) - $5.20, Medium/Standard box – $10.95, Large - $14.95. PLEASE NOTE THE RECENT INCREASE IN SHIPPING RATES.
* If you want your items shipped to you with DC, please include the $.70, and a filled out slip. I will not mail the items back with delivery confirmation unless you include the $.70 and the filled out DC form.
* DO NOT include click-it/ship-it postage. I will not be able to use it since it is only good on the day it was printed, and from the location it was printed.

Required check-ins will be:

March 5th - verify groups and pm info to me

April 4th - check-in with status update

April 25th - check-in and last call for angels

May 6th -

May 18th - update mailing status & detailed status on groups

May 27th - mail by date (must send priority with delivery confirmation if mailing today)

June 3rd - Due to me
I will pm you with a reminder if you forget to check in. After 48 hours with no response I will request angels for your spots. If you are going on vacation or will be out of town, please check in early. Please do not sign up for more than you can handle. If you need an angel, please ask for one as soon as possible.

OK...I added all the recent requests (I think). I added all the 2" words at the end and I added some 4" letters into their specific sections. Please be sure to look at all the newest additions before sign-ups for correct groups and any new things you may want!! No existing groups numbers changed though!! The groups that are pending aren't on my need them/want them list. so no opinions here. I was thinking that groups like Festival of the Lion King could get really long for a title if every letter is an altered 2 inch letter. If it were me I'd assign someone 3 letters: THE which could be a neutral color and welded together with a shadow. Then I'd assign someone 2 letters: OF which could be neutral color and welded together with a shadow + 1 random letter in the word so that they still end up with 3 letters. I guess it would be easier in my mind to lay the title out--still long but maybe not so stretched out. Plus the key words are "emphasized" more ya know? Or since THE and OF aren't embellished as much--one person could do both. Or the 2 people could kinda plan to make those words black/white or tan/cream etc. and use the same fonts so they match. Totally just my thoughts though... I think too much into these sort of things sometimes.:laughing:

I was actually thinking the same thing. The and of are really not the "main" words of the show, so they don't need all the emphasis. I am picturing them welded and not large and placed sort-of at and angle in the title...if you can understad that vague description??!! LOL

So here is a question...I am thinking about Jedi Training Academy...I have a Yoda head file saved to my Gypsy from DS's birthday invites last year. The head is basic, it "becomes" Yoda when I hand draw his facial features in. I was hoping there would be an icon option with that title that I could use this for, but there isn't. There is a D though...would it look bad to have Yoda's head be the D in Jedi? :confused3 Opinions anyone?

Ok guys!! I had trouble last night with my internet and ddn't get to update the listings. I have several groups I will add. I just tried to do it and get everyting settook me about 20 minutes and then the Dis told me I couldn't mae changes? It kicked me out. So, I will try again! I will get as much done by 9:00 that I can. The first thing will be doing is changing some of the groups with words like "the" and "of" to those being welded words (small), then I will go in an add new additions. No group numbers will change, just check again to see the additions!! Thanks for your patience!! I will be here all day to continue updating!!

OK...we are updated through here. Sorry it took FOREVER!!! The boards were giving me a huge problem today! I'd edit and go to save and it would kick me out! :headache::headache:

A few people need to pick other letters because they were already taken.

A few notes...

If you offered to take any letters, I may have switched you around...so check your groups carefully.

I will keep this open until Tuesday evening. Please don't start cutting before then as groups may get deleted / combined and letters / or amounts may change.

OK....all the groups are now listed in the 2nd post. I added several after sign-ups opened because it finally let me!! LOL Anyway, be sure to check those out and get in on whatever ones you want! Again, I will leave this open until Tuesday evening. Anyone wanting more can sign-up all weekend. I won't be on here from 2:00 tomorrow until late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. If there are any requests during that time I will update when I get home. Anything coming in now until tomorrow at 2:00 will be updated before I go to DS's wrestling tournament. I will open sub-groups (some already opened) if there is interest.

*****Also, this is becoming a huge swap...so many groups. I know they are only letters, but they still take time, especially when the groups add up. Do we want to move the due date now, just for good measure? I want everyone to have time. I also know there are other swaps going on at the same time and I don't want to interfere with them. And, it will take some time to swap this one out I think, so I may need a week or so. Just want to inform you all ahead of time. So, if everyone could give me their thoughts on the due date moving, it would be great!!

I'm in favor of moving the due date back a few weeks too-lots of swaps going on right now, and I'm hostessing my first one in March. Also Spring Break is right in the middle of this swap, and I'll be out of town for a week....just my 2 cents.

I wanted to sign up for a few more groups, but I held myself back bc of the due date-didn't want to stress getting them done in time...I may have to think about adding some more.;)

Yeah...I am going to move it back. I will look at my calendar. Better to do it now and let people sign up for more than later!!

Have fun at the wrestling tournament.. my DS has an Ice Hockey tournament this weekend about 2hrs from home - he and his dad will stay over night and me and my hubby will just travel up for the day on Saturday. I'll have to skip his Sunday Am game and playoffs but he comes home for the week Sunday night so I'll catch up with how it went then.

Oh...good luck to your DS!!! We are stayong over night tomorrow night. It's only an hour away, but we won't get out until about 11 tomorrow night and have to be back at 7. So, it gives us a little more sleep!!!

I will highlight (with another color) the openings at some point tomorrow before I leave. That way, anyone wanting to sign up can easily see what is still available. Also, anyone wanting to fill in can see what needs filling. I am hoping to get some more swappers on here, too!!

On Sunday evening, I will see about options for condensing / combining groups and get swappers' opinions on that. Then, Monday I will start combining and condensing and close this out Tuesday evening. So, once we know the exact number for sure, everyone can start cutting!! :thumbsup2 (*Note - I did put up some tentative numbers after the full groups, but it is possible some may change if we combine. I will start to finalize groups tomorrow night. Anything that has no takers as of tomorrow will be eliminated. Those groups that have only a few open spots will be filled. We have a few people that have offered to fill in where needed. Anything that is wide open may not get filled, but we will try. Groups that are sub-groups, if they do not fill, does anyone mind if we try to adjust the first to fit those people in? For example, if you are making 3 letters for 5 people, you may end up making 2 letters for 8 people. (Just off the top of my head.) It may mean that you would get a few icons with your title...possibly. I'd like feedback on this before making a final list of groups. Also, if there is a group that is just short of filling even after our helpers, would everyone be ok with going from say two letters each to three letters each? I think that's all the questions I have for now. So, I will begin finalizing tomorrow and close on Tuesday. If there are any questions for particular groups, I will direct them to the participants tomorrow evening or afternoon.

I have deleted some more groups that only had one taker. There was not enough interest to keep them. Make sure whe this is all closed that everyone looks everything over well. There are a few groups that have had the number of letters to be made change. It is important that you know exactly what you need to make. We also still have 53 spots in the 2" letters to fill and 30 spots in the 4" letters to fill. The 4" groups will all still stand without filling up. The 2" letters have to be filled to stay.

I am starting to work on the groups for the player listing. (Post 3) It is taking a long time with all the groups and number of players within each group. So, give it some time. When I am done with that, I will pm my info. When you see my pm, you are safe to check your groups. Please be sure to check your assignments carefully. There are a ton of groups and letters. I could make mistakes in here and between all of us hope to have it straight. Also, if we don't have things straight and someone makes the wrong letter, the word wouldn't work. So, this is important!! I shouls have it all done by tonight.

Also, there are a few 4" letters still available if anyone is interested. I will leave them open until I am done with the assignments. All of the 2" letter groups are full. You may start cutting on them!!!

No, I don't have scal....found a sticker sheet and then just cut out their heads from the bodies...left a little bit of the clear backing so they wouldn't stick and then attached with a glue dot.
