View Full Version : Pictures from my quickie-trip to Disney.

So, I spent February 5-8, 2011 in Disney World. I went with my Mom, as well as my neighbors who were taking their daughter to WDW for the first time ever.

I had high hopes for this trip, photographically speaking, but quite honestly when I get down there I usually lose all motivation to shoot and just want to spent my whole trip having fun.

I managed to snag a few keepers, which I will upload to this thread. I'll probably only upload one or two at a time, so be sure to check back every once in a while to see what I've added!

You've got some great photos and I'm looking forward to seeing more. From what you have posted, I've noticed than one photo was taken with an 85mm lens and the rest are with the 180mm. It kinda looks like there is " lots of love for that lens."

I was definitely trying to give the 180 a good work-out to see what I could get with it, and after the trip I can certainly say there is lots of love for the lens. Sure, I have to stand like 5 feet away from everything I'm shooting, which can be inconvenient, but the perspective compression and the nice bokeh are more than enough to make up for any negatives.

I'd probably keep dalmation girl and lose teddy bear girl. To me, the teddy bear is interesting, but distracting. The expressions on everyone are priceless.

I agree. The open area to the right with teddy bear girl in the darkened background is distracting. If she was upfront and well lit, I would say keep her, but she isn't. The nice about digital, if you crop it and don't like it, change it back.:rotfl2:

Double agree! I like the variety of facial expressions. The 'dalmation girl' is the classic 'little sister, I'm shy' look holding hands with her big sister who is very engaged. Love the folks on the bench but then there is the gap and 'dark sweatshirt with bear girl' who is a distraction.

Love your other pics too. Being on the look out to round out my quiver with a few more lenses- I like seeing what you've captured with your different lens. :thumbsup2

Those are some great shots! I especially like the last one posted, not necessarily because of the image itself, but the fact that you got it at 1/125 @ 2.8 thanks to having a totally usable ISO1000. Love that D7000!! I'll assume it was handheld as well? And I know the 180 2.8 doesn't have VR... Again, great shots!

Great colors in this shot. Big like on this one.

Cropping it... I would keep it the 4x6 ratio and crop out the right side (losing the teddy bear girl, which I never noticed till you pointed it out) and crop out the top. So basically the guy with the glass on the right would be your new top corner thus keeping the girl with the Dalmatian shirt. Just my $0.02.

Oh Disney can kick rocks on this one. Anything that is stuffed and fuzzy and looks like a bear, is a teddy bear by definition!! :thumbsup2

Plus (I'm honestly clueless on this one because I don't have kids)---what is a Duffy Bear anyway? Is it from a movie?

Thanks for sticking with me, everyone! I know these are coming rather slowly, but with only four days there, there aren't as many shots as usual and to be honest---photography didn't end up being much of a priority when I was down there, so the keepers are few and far between. I'm trying to get a few "good" ones done per day.

Great parade pic Ann!! I can relate to the "photography didn't end up being much of a priority" statement. My last trip there in Oct 2010 was not much of a photo trip for me either. I had a friend with me for the first 4 days and we had 2 days to do all four parks ... she was never to WDW and I wanted her to get a little taste of what each park was like. Needless to say we were on the move constantly. The rest of my time in Florida I did some leisurely photo stuff ( like FL State Parks) and came home with waaaaaay more other photos than Disney ones. My postable Disney pics are few and far between also, although I did come up with enough that I liked to put together a Disney vacation book for her for Christmas. Most of the photos I ended up keeping reminded me of the typical tourist kinda shots which was a good thing when putting together her memory book .... just was kinda skimpy for adding to my own "new" keepers.

Thanks! :goodvibes Yes, my whole kit consists of primes. I've had zooms in the past (kit lens, 70-200/2.8, Tokina 11-16/2.8) and found I used them like primes anyway. I like that they're lighter and I think force me to get creative more easily than I did with zooms. Maybe I'll go back to them one day, but for now they just werent working for me.

WOW!!!!! Singing in the rain and The Music of Africa are simply AWESOME!!!!!
(So are the other ones BTW)

You nailed it! :badpc:

I love the fact that you are letting us see your Exif data because it really helps me understand how you:
A) Got them so clear
and
B) got in so close!

You really managed to capture the essence of the moment with these shots of the performers.

Nice, Nice, Nice!!!!

You really got some great shots so don't feel bad that this didn't turn out to be the photo trip that you had envisioned. When time passes by and you forget about your plans, you'll have all these really great pictures and then you can say "I did really great for the limitations I had to deal with"!

Nice work Ann, the MSEP shot is nice 'n' sharp on the lettering!

OK, I'll speak up for those who don't use flikr......Once on the page, where is the EXIF info?

If you're using Firefox, you can use the Greasemonkey add-on, then install the More Exif Info (http://6v8.gamboni.org/Flickr-More-Exif-Info.html) script. This will show you exif data of your choosing right on the main photo page. The script is a little wonky on the current version of Flickr but mostly works. The Flickr page about the app (http://www.flickr.com/services/apps/72157624404046717) has a just-posted fix in the comments to help it along, but I'm still having a problem of it showing up twice after installing on two separate PCs. Hopefully it'll be updated one of these days.

Even so, it is a very handy add-on!
