Hi,

Hope someone can help me as I have searched the net and can't come up with an answer to this question. I am currently in the market for a Canon lens...the 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM one. I have been looking at several of them on eBay, amazon, KEH, etc. I have noticed that some have a gold band around them while others have a silver band. What is the difference??? Is there one? This is making me crazy as I just can't seem to find the answer. I hope someone can help!

I have the Canon 10-22mm and it has a gold ring close to the front element. I have not seen a Canon 10-22mm with a silver ring.
All the review sites I've checked also show them with a gold ring.

Some discussion of the ring colors is located at the link below.

My 10-22 (which I have had for a few years) has a gold band. The photo on Canon's website also appears to have a gold band although it could easily be mistaken for silver.

That looks like a black and white photo. I just ordered mine from B&H and it is gold.

I would second the fact that it is a balck and white photo. The feet in the distance window should be green and the ft on the side should also be green.

It just looks silver in the photos, it's really gold. At one time that threw me, too. Canon's designation for the USM lenses is a gold band. I really wish they did use a different color to differentiate the different USM motor types so it would be easy to tell which ones have full time manual focus.
