View Full Version : Lost a half day's worth of pictures from my most recent trip

I either accidentally deleted the folder while clearing up space on my hard drive, thinking it was already done, or formatted the card without realizing I hadn't moved the files onto my computer yet.
It was only a half day's worth of photos, but I'm bummed because they were from our last day where we ate at Akershus and were the recipients of 'Disney Magic' when our last ride on Maelstrom was almost squashed by mechanical difficulties.
On the flip side, while going through my camera bag, thinking maybe I used an old card for some reason, I found $5.
It doesn't quite even out :headache:

as long as you haven't used the card since you formatted it your pictures are still there. All you need to do is download a free recovery software from the web and run it on your memory card.

The pics are still there!
Try some recovery software or let me take a look at it.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
this is why I love this board
I'll have to do this when I get home! Where can I find recovery software?
I'm not sure if I used *that* specific card since we've been home, but I've had a baby shower and made some new pins in the meantime, so the chances that I have are pretty high. But it's worth a shot!
We are about to trek out into the snowy wilderness to eat some dinner at my MIL's
We were just (now) plowed, so it's time to travel

Or try ZAR recovery software, it's free and I plus some people I know have had success with it in the past.

Actually, first I'd check to see if you can out the file names of some of the pictures that are lost.
I.E. Look at what you have saved and assuming you're using a number sequence the next one would be one that was missing. Using the recovery software do a search for that file name.
I'm 1/2 asleep so if I'm not making sense, let me know. :lmao:

I haven't used that program in a long time, but yes it's definitely another good one to try

I ran the ZAR program on all of my memory cards, and our last day was no where to be found on any of them :( Which is really strange, because pictures from our September trip were coming up...they are much older and the cards have been formatted several times since then.
I'm going to try another program over the weekend, wish me luck!

Your kidding!
Are you sure you have all the cards you used while you were there?
I found some on a card I stuck in a different camera one time....

I feel like I am seriously absolutely literally totally completely losing my mind. :headache:
I only have 4 cards. 2 of which I am positive I did not use at all the entire time, and I still ran it on them, anyway. On the 2 that I am positive I DID use, I was pulling pictures all the way back from October, through Christmas, the trip, my cousin's baby shower the weekend after we got back, but NONE from the last day. I also basically did an autopsy of my camera bag, thinking maybe I came across a card that I never knew existed, and I've got nothing.
I'll be completely honest, though. I haven't been too thrilled with any of the photos from this trip, because I was absolutely miserable and in pain the entire time. So I probably am not missing much, but the fact that I can't locate them is making me totally crazy.

Have you tried checking what file numbers are missing? I only ask because I have seen a couple cases where the reason the pictures went missing was because there was no card in the camera while shooting. My camera barely gives you any notification that there is no card, so on some cameras it can be overlooked while shooting. If you had no card in there would be no gap in the numbering of the files you have.

I'm missing 2241 through 2288.

Any chance you were using a camera with internal memory?
