Im sitting here drolling over the Cannon T2i but its really out of my price range right now...I am thinking though of selling my Rebel XS and my Panansonic Mini DV camcorder (both only a few years old, both in great shape)...with the sale of these I could upgrade to the T2i...but is it really that much better than the XS? I think the big draw for me is the HD video and photography in one... I already look like a pack mule when touring the parks...
Anyone have a T2i right now? Thoughts?
The T2i is definitely not a camcorder replacement.. the HD video is very nice quality, but the autofocus is garbage - very slow, jumpy and inaccurate. That's fine if you're a filmmaker that is going to do everything with manual focus anyway, but in real life, it's worthless and frustrating.
This is true for all DSLRs because they can't use their main AF sensor during video. The exception is the new Sony translucent mirror models which can use phase detection AF in video.

I agree. I don't think you will be happy with the capabilities of the video on the camera compared to a real camcorder.

I know people who love the T2i for video. I'm not a fan of it for that, but as a DSLR it's a great camera and a fairly significant upgrade from your Rebel XS.
If you just want something that takes up less space, you might check out a small camcorder like one of the Flip HD's.

I don't have a T2i/550D but I would also like a good combination of pic and video quality in a DSLR. The T2i gets great reviews but like others have said, the video AF is not the best.
