I know alot of people are able to go to WDW in early December but it seems as if there are a lot of us who cannot!
Will there ever be a DISCON Summer edition????

I believe the reason we have it then is that is when Conventions are set up.. or so I was told..special time just for Conventions..

I think a good time is in October. Disney is just empty at that time with the exception of UK visitors.

What does that mean, that's when conventions are set up? There are conventions year-round.

When having a DIS CON was very first considered, there was a feeler thread, I recall, asking what time of year folks wanted to attend . I know lots of people, including myself, preferred the summer months specifically because they had school aged children to consider, however at the time I believe it was the hot-weather-haters that were in the majority ;)

I know this isn't going to make much sense seeing as though I wasn't able to go to DIS CON I and can't attend DIS CON II since I've been busy both December's with school, but I think that December is a good month to have it. I know that there are those of us with school committments that can't make it, but school only lasts so long and then we should be able to come too. At any time of the year there are going to be people who can't make it, and Dec does make sense with regards to weather/crowds/discount availability. And one day (maybe DIS CON III?????) hopefully I'll be able to make it too. :)

I would love to attend DISCON but can't bring my self to pull son out of school just to go to Disney. It would be nice if could be in the summer one year and early December the next.
If not, I guess I'll just have to wait until December 2009 to attend DISCON 9:jester:

I would love a DISCON summer edition as well. We have been going in August for the past two years.

I have boys in high school and Junior High that just can't afford to miss school now.
The 2nd week of June is when we go.......that would be a perfect time for a Summer DISCON!!!;)

I could never make a December DISCON. Ministers can't really take time off during advent. So maybe when Dh retires in 30 years! ;) Also we have a lot of teachers that can't take off...
Maybe we'll have to start the unofficial Discon summer edition....:(

I went last year with my DD who was 14 at the time, but I had to take her out of school for 3 days. My son who is in college could not go because it is just to close to exam time. But I really loved WDW decorated for the holidays, so this year I am leaving DD at home with my sister and my DS and I are going right after exams on 12/14.
I really enjoyed DISCON I, just the special spot for illuminations was worth the cost. It would be nice though if they changed the dates around periodically, I think they would get a larger group if they went towards the end of June or sometime in August.

Other issues are that the hotel rates and DVC rates are lower during the first weeks in December. People can also take advantage of MVMCP.
I could go pretty much any time of the year, but it is just too dang HOT in the summer for my taste. I was just there at the end of August and I was miserable.
And if we are thinking of changing DIS Con.... then how about June or July at the Disneyland Resorts!!!!!! :)
The weather is much more bearable in Anaheim during that thime of the year.

I'm another FL summer weather hater! My kids missed a week of school last year during DIS-CON - and they were in 6th, 9th, and 12th grades.

TheLionKing!
I think that's a fantastic idea! As a DISer who is a student, then next year will hopefully be a teacher, I doubt I will ever be able to make it to DIS Con during December, unless it is just for a weekend, but DisneyLand in the summer sounds great! I've never been there, but it sounds like a wonderful idea to me!! :) :)

How about alternate every year? One year summer, one year in December....just a thought. Although I do understand the price difference....:(

I would also love to see DisCon done at a different time of the year or alternated summer/winter. I have a son in a gifted program and it is impossible to take him out. Plus the fact that our school district does not consider vacation as a valid reason to be absent.

Well. these are my thoughts. I agree with Lion King. there is no way I am coming to Florida in the summer.. I hate the heat...but the fall is beautiful, early spring, but summer.. I cannot do it.. I went Memorial Day weekend and could not stand the humidity.. I suppose you do get to use to it if you live in Florida.. but wow.. it was hot..

I think one of the biggest appealing points of having DISCON in December is the "Holiday Happenings". MVMCP, CP, Osborne Lights, visiting resorts to view decorations, all make excellent mini-meet venues and offer attendees lots of variety. And let's face, Disney is incredibly beautiful at Christmas time.
Even though I live in the Caribbean, I can't stand the Florida heat (part of the reason I moved from Miami). Too much humidity !!! ICK !!!
JMHO :D :D :D

I for one do not like the FLA summer heat. I also understand the desire of others for a DISCon in the summer because of jobs or school. I think if you have a June DISCon it needs to be late June. Some schools do not finish until like Jun 20. It seems to me a mid July to mid Aug would get most of the DISers with school related reasons the best time for most to be able to come. The heat and crowds do make it harder to do things and the cost is more than likely to be more. If Pete and company decide they are not able/wanting to do a summer DISCon maybe some DISers get together and just plan thiere vacations at the same time and share thier vacations together. We are able to do Dec because we are empty nesters. We can not do anythting from Jan through April because of DW's job. So each DISer has the times they can and can not go.
