I know there has been much discussion about the condition of and service on the Magic.

We returned a week ago from the 5 day double dip. It was our 18th cruise on Disney. We had a great time. Our server was new, only been on the Magic for 2 1/2 months, but he was terrific. I think people may not realize that although alot of these servers are new to Disney, they are not new to cruising. Many of those that we met, have come from other Cruise lines. Our assistant server has been with Disney for 5 years. Our room steward was new to Disney, but had been on Holland America for 10 years prior to Disney.

We had breakfast and lunch every day in either Lumiere's or Parrot Cay so we got to meet quite a few servers. We didn't have a problem with anyone. They were all friendly and helpful and provided great service. There was only one guy we saw each night in the Dining Room that really stuck out. He must have been quite new and looked scared to death when carrying the tray full of dishes. He walked really really slow and with a look of terror on his face. I felt so bad for him every night. He never carried more than 6 plates, but he always seemed so nervous. Other servers carry much more than that and race around the dining room like it's nothing. It was quite comical to see and we watched him each night. I felt bad for him.

Our room steward was fantastic as well. He was very very friendly, spoke to us all the time and took great care of our room.

The condition of the ship certainly doesn't look as new as 10 years ago, but I think it's still in great shape. Yes, there are some rust stains and nicks and dings in the furniture, but things were always clean.

The only area I saw that was lacking in service was the Cove Cafe. While the drinks they made were fine, the people working in there were not friendly at all. We saw several different people over the course of the 5 days and none of them were friendly. We were a the Cove area alot and this really surprised us. We had just been on the Wonder in October and the guys in there couldn't have been nicer or friendlier.

I will say that of the two ships -Magic and Wonder, I find overall that the staff on the Wonder are more friendly than those on the Magic. We have sailed mostly on the Magic, but have done a couple of back to backs on the Wonder and we were surprised each time how friendly those on the Wonder were. There is a noticeable difference. That's not to say those on the Magic aren't, but those on the Wonder are a step above. We even mentioned that to an officer at the Castaway reception (on the Wonder) and he said that they hear that alot. It would be interesting to know why?

Anyway, just wanted to say that don't worry if you are going on either the Magic or Wonder, they are still very fine ships and we love them both. We are sailing on the Dream in two weeks and can't wait to experience all that is new and improved.

Thanks for this report. I never expected that 10+ year old ship would look like new, little things here and there don't bother me. But it's good to know about ship's crew. We sail in May, we will see how it will go.......

That is good to know!

Could you tell me what movies were being played in the theater when you were on . They will probably be the same for me in a couple weeks right?

Thanks so much for your post. I have not yet had the pleasure of cruising on the Magic but I loved the Wonder and can't wait for our July cruise on the Dream! :dance3:

I admit that after reading several posts about the Magic, I was a bit nervous even considering a cruise on it! :rolleyes1 Now I won't hesitate! Thanks again!

A cast member on the Dream told us that only 25 percent of the CMs on the Dream came from the Magic or Wonder. 75 percent are new to DCL. So, I don't think you guys have anything to worry about staff-wise. I still know MANY CMs who did not move to the Dream and are still on the two original ships. So just remember - 75 percent of the Magic and Wonder's staffs are the same!

Loved all your pics of the dream. Can't wait to be on the Dream in two weeks.

I will say that we have heard all kinds of different figures for the percentages that went to the Dream. When we were on the Wonder in October we chatted with the Hotel Director (an officer) who told us that they were taking 30% of the Magic Crew and 30% of the Wonder crew with them to the Dream.

When we talked with our Head Server on the Magic last week, he told us that about 75% of the Dining teams were new. He said that although it was challenging, alot of the new servers and asst servers were not new to cruising only to Disney. They have experience, they just need to know the Disney way of doing things.

We have been on the Magic many many times and we hardly recognized anyone. There are alot of new dining teams. Even our assit server who has been with Disney for 5 years, said that it's an almost entirely new crew in the Dining room. He had just come back from vacation and he said he knew hardly anyone.

All in all though, no worries, we did not notice a lack of service at all and we loved this cruise as much as the others we have taken.
