If I read correctly, the Oceaneers Club is not open when in port. If my husband and I want to do an excursion without the kids, is there child care? Or is that even allowed?

The kids clubs ARE open while in port- so you can leave them there....

You will hear others say they would never leave their kids on the boat, but plenty of others do.... And IMO there is nothing wrong with it....

The only port the Oceaneer Club isn't open in is Castaway Cay, and that's because they have a kids club on the island (Scuttle's Cove) with organized programming through most of the day while you're on the island.

Yes, as other's have mentioned Kid's Clubs are open when in port. And yes, some people are hesitant to leave their children there - I being one. My biggest issue is - we will get to our excursion and then we'll be "paged" b/c our daughter needs us. I'm not going to pay for an expensive excursion only to be called back. We chose to do things as a family, there will be plenty of time for us to do "adult excursions" when we cruise alone (one day) ;) Plus, this way she gets to see/do fun things in another country.

Has anyone heard what the range of the new wave phones is? It's my understanding they no longer have the pagers which didn't work when too far from the ship anyway. On most excursions, there's really no way to get back to the ship quickly even if DCL was able to get ahold of you.

Excursions are something we do as a family. Our kids are old enough to handle anything we can do anyway. The only time we've left our kids on the boat is to just do some quick "shopping" nearby the port. If we have to tender or go somewhere away from the dock, we take the kids. It's a good experience for them IMO.
