This is our Emily.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ggWgy5SeVXc/RtajgADTbEI/AAAAAAAAABs/dY-d-6LRFpg/s400/DSCF2445.JPG

Like all children, Emily is a miracle. But the fact that she is even here with us today is an even bigger miracle. Most babies with a condition like Emily's do not even survive pregnancy or birth. She has an extremely rare chromosome disorder called an unbalanced translocation of chromosomes 7 and 9 and there is little to no data on how this condition will affect her life or how it has affected others. She is also Baby C of our set of triplets. Her brother, Carter, her sister, Brenna, and Emily were born in August of 2007 at almost 34 weeks gestation! Their older brother is 7 year old Drew.

Since 4 months old, she has endured a devastating seizure disorder which has left her functioning at the level of a 6-7 month old, and many other medical conditions which effect her organs and systems. She is also cortically blind, which means she can not see the way people with normal vision see. From what they can tell us, she has awareness of lights, shadows, and possibly objects, though her brain can not understand what she is seeing. You can read more about Emily's story on our family blog (and also my husband's full trip report) at www.wecouldnotaskformore.blogspot.com .

Emily is also non-verbal, so we knew we would be making her "wish" for her. And because we do not know how long we will have her with us (though we hope it's a very long time!), we wanted to make her wish as soon as possible. We considered other wishes, but it came down to wanting for Emily what every other 3 year old little girl would want. Since Emily is a triplet (a sister, Brenna, and a brother, Carter), we felt that what Brenna loves would be very close to what Emily would love too. And she is all about the Princesses!! :) Since Emily had been showing some improvement in her visual awareness, especially to lights, we (and the MAW volunteers) thought Disney World over Christmas/New Years would be an amazing thing for her to "see".

DH and I had never been to DisneyWorld with our children - only separately when we were younger - and we knew how special it would be to see this magical place through our children's eyes, but it would be even more special through Emily's eyes.

A while ago now, my DH recorded a song for Emily - In My Daughter's Eyes

Our flight was scheduled for the Monday morning after Christmas, but there was an impending snowstorm coming our way on Sunday! I had been checking our flight status VERY often and it continued to say "on time" through early Monday morning so we woke up before the sun to get ready for our ride to pick us up at 7am.

At 7am, we received a call from our car service company that due to a State of Emergency our driver could not get on the road to get us on time. He was leaving then and would get to us as soon as possible.

Here we are, ready an hour early, waiting for our ride! Emily, who likes to sleep in, was dressed, but was not ready for photos! ;)

That is some serious self control!! I will try not to drag it out too long, I've just been having trouble getting on here lately.

The stockings were store bought. I think it was actually supposed to be a table runner, but since there are six of us and six stockings I hang it up!

We waited for what seemed like an eternity, and our ride finally pulled up right about 8am. Most MAW families will be picked up in a limo, and our coordinator really wanted us to have one. But we had voiced our concerns that with 6 of us, 3 carseats, one booster seat, 4 suitcases, 6 carry-ons, one medical bag, 2 personal item bags, and Em's KidKart which does not fold down, we might not fit in a limo!! I guess the car company agreed because they sent us this

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/003.jpg

And the kids looked like this!
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/002.jpg

Emily was still not ready to wake up!
Gee-off started loading all of the carseats, luggage and wheelchair into the van while I bundled up the kids.

The roads were in terrible shape. But we had a great driver and he got us there safely by 9am.

It was tricky getting through the airport that morning, as almost all flights had been canceled the day before and LOTS of people were lined up trying to get on new flights. We had to wait in a few lines just to figure out which was the right line to check our bags in! We had already gotten our boarding passes online thank goodness. Then it was off to get through security. Did I mention we had 6 of us, 9 bags, 2 kids who need help taking off their coats and shoes, and Em in her wheelchair??

Well, a sweet security agent let us go right under the ropes when she saw us coming with Emily and we went right to the conveyor belt to start loading our buckets for xray. We all got through, but Em stayed in her chair so they had to take her aside for a pat down with me, while Gee gathered all of our bags, repacked them and got everyone redressed! They had to check Em's medical bag as well, but they did not ask to see the letter from her doctor.

Once we got through security, we immediately saw Dunkin' Donuts and the kids looked like this!
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/006.jpg

And about this time, "Sleeping Beauty", as she would be referred to often on her trip, decided to wake up. :)
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/008.jpg

I should mention that our MAW chapter gave us the red shirt for Emily and sheets of Genie stickers to wear instead of the blue and white shirts and pins I have seen most families receive.

We got our donuts and coffee and went to our gate where there were almost no seats left and 41 people waiting for stand by seats!!!! So we sat against the wall and enjoyed our treats.
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/009.jpg

After taking a few bathroom breaks, they started calling us to get on the plane! Gee-off went ahead with Em's carseat and the other 3, and I stayed with Em until a flight attendant came so I could carry Emily and leave the chair in safe hands. We were all in our seats and situated in a few minutes and we were on our way quickly.

I was anxious to see how the kids would like the plane ride since Drew was the only one who had ever flown. Well, there were wind gusts of 30-40 mph that day because of the storm so the pilot warned us that take-off would be turbulent. And it was. It was so bumpy and scary!!! But my kids loved it! Brenna was squealing in delight and Em and the boys were smiling away! Did I mention Carter and Gee-off have motion sickness? They both had some Dramamine and I was hoping for the best. So far so good. :rolleyes1

Before take-off - you really have to watch this all the way through to see what Em does right at the end! - I think she's thinking "can we take-off already?!?!? ;)
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/th_VID00168.jpg (http://s639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/?action=view&current=VID00168.mp4)

Once we got high enough, the ride was smooth. What a relief!! We were about an hour and a half into our 2 hour flight, everyone had had a drink and they were playing with their busy toys when Carter's chocolate donut came back up. Uggh. But since Emily was wearing the red MAW shirt, I had her white Big Give Wish shirt in my carry-on and we got him cleaned up and wearing that as soon as we landed! Phew!

We headed toward the baggage area, and there was our greeter, Hope. :lovestruc
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/IMG_3905.jpg

She took us to baggage claim and then to get our rental van. I stayed with the kids, who tried out their carseats while we were waiting for Gee and Hope to bring the van.
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/IMG_3906-1.jpg

Once we got the van, Gee-off had to install all of the carseats again, while I tried to entertain the kids who had not eaten lunch - and it was now 3 pm. And then he tried to put the KidKart in the back of the van and it wouldn't fit. No matter how we tried, it was NOT going to fit! So they went to get another van. Now the kids were really losing it. I think all of them were screaming and carrying on at this point. :headache: Note to self: next time be sure to have snacks on hand!!!

The second van came and Gee-off had to take all of the carseats out of the first van and then put them all in the new van. This time the wheelchair fit and we were finally headed off to GKTW around 4:00pm! (Our flight landed at 2:20!!!)

We had planned to stop at Walmart before checking in at GKTW, but because it had gotten so late, we headed straight for the village. The directions were clear (they were right on the back of the Welcome sign!) and we finally saw this:
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/IMG_3908.jpg

We headed in to The House of Hearts for check-in and it was here that I teared up for the first time. We had made it and I knew we were in an amazing place just setting foot in the parking lot! :woohoo:

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/IMG_3909.jpg

By the time we were officially checked in it was starting to get dark and was unusually chilly, so our check-in guy, Don, took our family pic by the Christmas tree in the HoH instead of in front of our villa.

We were very lucky, and I think one of the very first flights out of Philly after the big snow! Somebody was watching out for us. :cloud9: Yeah, we don't normally do donuts ever for that reason, but this was our "Yes! trip, where we pretty much decided that, within reason, we'd probably be letting them get whatever they wanted for once! :yay:

Don led the way to our villa, #242, and we followed behind in the van. We were in the new section, right by the CandyLand playground!!!! Yay! :cool1:

We all went in for the tour and the first thing I saw was a full size, fully decorated Christmas tree! How sweet. :)

We had requested a crib for Emily, and MAW rented one for us because I wasn't sure the crib in the villa would be big enough if it was a portable one since Emily is a full sized 3 1/2 year old. It was a good thing we asked for the regular crib, because the villa crib was a tight fit. Unfortunately though, the crib they rented for us didn't fit through the bedroom doorway, so we had to keep it in the living room! It was nice to have it there during the daytime, but through the night we had to keep our door open to hear her. At home she sleeps in her crib at the foot of our bed, so it was just a bit uncomfortable having her kind of far away (but still in sight!).

The kids found their bedroom (two twin beds and a fold-up bed in the closet for Drew), and then their bathroom with the jacuzzi tub and the huge accessible shower! They had some fun checking it out, and then Don left us to get settled in.

They also had set out some gifts on the kitchen table for the kids and the fridge was stocked with some soda cans, water bottles, and a pound cake. :)

We headed straight for the phone to order some dinner! We called Katie's Kitchen and they delivered us some delicious Boston Market chicken, meatloaf, side dishes, and CORNBREAD!!! Finally, the kids were fed. :woohoo:

Then, we decided to head over to the Ice Cream Palace before I went to orientation and I had asked DH to take the kids to see the Safari Double Dare show in the Village's theater while I was gone. We got all of the kids and ourselves some ice cream (poor Em can't eat by mouth so she doesn't get to enjoy any food on the trip)

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/MondayNight52.jpg

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/MondayNight50.jpg

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/MondayNight49.jpg

Then, it was quickly time for me to go.

BUT, Em was starting to cry. It's really not like her. I figured she was uncomfortable in her chair (wheelchair) so I decided I would bring her with me to orientation so I could hold her, and DH could take the other 3 to Double Dare. When I walked into the HoH though, Em was really crying. I went over to where parents were checking in and I got some worried looks from the volunteers. Uh oh. I explained the situation and that I thought if I could bring her in and just get her out of the chair for a little while, I thought she would stop crying and probably go to sleep in my arms. One of the four volunteers (despite glares from the others) gave me the OK to try and bring her in so I went back to the meeting room.

I found a seat (Em was still crying at this point) and started to take her out. I could see the presenter and another volunteer were uncomfortable immediately. They were motioning to each other and one left the room. The presenter came to me and said something like it's not a good idea to have her here so I can pay attention or something like that. I don't really remember what they said to me, just that it was very clear they didn't want Emily there crying. I, of course, understood it was very distracting, but I didn't know what to do!

I was embarrassed at this point, wanted to calm her down, didn't want to miss the orientation, and didn't want DH to have all 4 kids and a very upset Emily by himself! So I said she should calm down in minute. But she didn't. So I quickly started to put her back in her chair, and in comes the manager. She said something about it not being a good idea to keep her in here during orientation and would it be more convenient for me to come to 9 am orientation tomorrow? I said that we had plans to go to a park early tomorrow and I really didn't want to miss the orientation so I would have to bring her to my DH and then come back. So I went off to find him, tried texting him, but it didn't work. Went over to the theater and they weren't there. Emily is STILL crying. Finally I saw them through the doorway of the Ice Cream Palace, they were on their way out. DH took Em and headed back to the villa with kids. They didn't get to see the Double Dare show, but Em calmed down when they got back he said and it was time for meds anyway.

Uggggggghhh.

I did get all of our tickets, etc., though, so we were all set for Magic Kingdom the next day! :cool1:

I walked back to the villa. I did get an offer for a ride on what Dh and I dubbed "The Night Bus", like in Harry Potter. ;) It is the village bus that runs continuously to give families rides from their villas to the main activity area or vice versa. But I decided to walk. Luckily they have fairly large signs pointing the way to the playground, so I followed them since I wasn't sure where I was going that first night!!

When I got back to our villa, we got the kids ready for bed. Now I'm not sure if we gave the kids a bath that night or what night it was now!!! So I'm going to post the bathtub pic here. :) Again, Emily had to sit this one out. She can't sit up on her own so she gets her own bath without jets!

Emily did finally get to sleep peacefully in her crib.
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/015.jpg

And we took a few minutes to sing some made up Disney lullabies to Drew, Brenna, and Carter.

We were absolutely ready to head to bed ourselves, but we had skipped that important stop at Walmart earlier and there were several things that we needed. So, DH went out to Walmart around 10pm. We did eventually get to bed, dreaming of Mickey . . .

Our morning wake-up call, however, was not quite what we were expecting . . .

Good morning!
I am joining in on the fun! I did not get the chance to read through your entire PTR, but I did get through the first couple of posts. What a lovely family you have.:goodvibes I cannot wait to hear how your first park day went. The end of your last post does sound like perhaps you may have had a small snafu?:sad2:

So glad you didn't miss out on getting your tickets so you could get started the next day, although that comment about the wakeup call has me worried.....

We were dreaming of Mickey and Cinderella’s Castle all through the night. Our plan for the day was to head to Magic Kingdom, getting out the door by 8am. I knew from my research here on the Dis that it would take a while to actually get into the park and since it usually takes our crew a bit longer than the average family anyway, I wanted to get an early start. After spending most of the day there we planned to spend the afternoon and evening at Hollywood Studios. Gee-off had picked up bagels and juice at Walmart the night before so we didn’t need to go to the HoH or call for the breakfast cart at the village.

I set the room alarm and my cell phone for 6:30am even though I knew Emily’s feeding pump would be finishing around 6am and beeps until you get up to turn it off. After all, we were pretty exhausted from our travel day, so I didn’t want to start our first day off by getting up late!
Just as expected, Emily’s pump beeped, (remember her crib was in the hallway outside our room because it didn’t fit through the doorway) and I politely asked DH to go turn it off. ;) Not even a minute later, Emily started choking and vomited all over her crib! This was certainly not the wake-up call we were planning on. Emily doesn’t generally throw up for no reason, so immediately I was worried that even if we got her cleaned up and got everyone ready on time, she might actually be sick and not able to handle the park. Since our villa had 2 bathrooms and a washer and dryer, I started a load of laundry and started a bath for Emily while the other kids were still sleeping.

Gee-off also said his stomach wasn’t feeling very well either at this point. Oh no. Not good. We hoped it was just from stuffing ourselves with Boston Market last night!

The other kids woke up raring to go (YAY!!), so I continued to get Emily ready; gave her morning meds, put on her clean clothes and started her morning feeding at a reduced rate to give her tummy a break in case it was more than a one time thing.

Since it was taking a little longer than usual to get ready, Gee took Carter, Brenna, and Drew over to Matthew’s Boundless Playground. It was right at the end of our driveway since we were in the new section of villas and they had so much fun running around the colored squares and saying hello their CandyLand character friends. It was actually really cold again this morning, in the 30s, so I didn’t even attempt to bring Emily out this time. But I was excited to get her out there at least once during the trip since it’s totally handicapped accessible. :thumbsup2

By the time we were all ready head to MK, it was after 10am!! But at least Em hadn’t gotten sick again and we were on our way. Gee-off still wasn’t feeling well but he pushed on. We followed the directions in the “bunny book” and after about 20 minutes we saw this:

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/023.jpg

And very soon after, we saw this!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/026.jpg

We all let out a cheer and headed into the parking lot. We had brought our handicap placard for Em with us so we put that up and were directed to a special parking area ( a bit further than the actual handicapped parking lot since it was already late and crowded). With Em in her chair, we had to walk to the ticketing area but it wasn’t too far. Now, I have to say here that we decided not bring the double stroller for Carter and Brenna this day because we thought they might not want to be “stuck” in a stroller and for the same reason we did not rent a Disney stroller even though GKTW gives you a free rental. Also, we knew how crowded it was going to be and we didn't really want to be pushing around the double stoller and the wheelchair through the crowds. Carter and Brenna actually did a great job of either holding one of our hands or holding on to either side of Em’s kart while we walked.

We could see there was quite a line already for the monorail, but with Gee not feeling well and Carter’s motion sickness issues, we decided against taking the ferry over to MK. They did stop us and say that the bus would be the fastest way to go, but we couldn’t take the wheelchair on. So we got in the line for the monorail. I’d say we waited about 10 minutes before we got on. I think I forgot to mention on our travel day that the kids really loved the monorail type thingy (?) at the Orlando airport that took us from the terminal to the baggage area and thought it was a ride, so I thought they would really love the monorail. And they did! They especially liked riding right through the Contemporary. With this trip being my first in over 15 years and our first time coming with our kids it was just so special watching their eyes light up with each site they saw! Emily was still sleeping, but I was hoping she was sleeping off any more sickies.

Here she is on the monorail
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/027.jpg

We headed through the bag check line (we had to bring a few with feeding stuff, changes of clothes, etc.) and then through the gates where the kids thought it was great to put their own tickets and push the bar all by themselves! And then we were in!!!!

The first thing I saw was the big Christmas tree and then came the tears.
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/028.jpg

The excitement of everything we were about to experience just came rushing through me and I felt like a little kid again too! I could see there were some people lining up around the tree, so I went to get a closer look. Daisy Duck was there!!! I told DH I wanted to use our pass to have our first character experience, but I think he was uncomfortable with using that so soon. So we skipped it and headed down Main St. I didn’t have too much time to pout because right away I saw a PhotoPass spot and we got our first official family pic of the trip!!! Oh, and Emily was still asleep. ;)

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/Photo0023FourBySix.jpg

Then we decided we would head right to It’s a Small World since that was the one ride we knew would be calm yet visually stimulating enough for Emily to really enjoy. But as we started toward the castle, we saw a parade heading straight for us!! So we found a spot on the sidewalk and enjoyed our first parade.

It was 11:45 when we got in line for our first ride.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/045.jpg

We did have to wait a while for the accessible boat,
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/047.jpg
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/048.jpg
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/049.jpg

but it was worth it because it seats 6 plus the chair in the middle, so we had it all to ourselves!

As we got onto the boat, Emily was STILL asleep! I was a little disappointed because I was really hoping she would be awake to “see” and enjoy the ride. She does have visual awareness of lights, especially in the dark, and usually responds to music and objects in motion. So if she was going to respond to anything, it would be this.

As the boat set forth on the water, our first bit of true Disney Magic happened. :wizard: Emily WOKE UP just as we went under the sign that says “Welcome to the happiest cruise that ever sailed”! Oh, pure joy! Gee-off looked at me, I looked at him, we both looked at Em with tears in our eyes and said, “This is it. This is what we’ve been waiting for. If we don’t get to do or see anything else, this just made our whole trip!” (Well, that wasn’t word for word, but you get the idea) That oh so familiar song was playing and Emily was looking around wide eyed just taking it all in. She even smiled on and off throughout the ride! That’s when I felt that we really were going to be able to enjoy our trip, sick or not. We’d had this very special moment and I just knew there were going to be more memorable moments to come!

After our wonderful ride on It’s a Small World, we realized it was already lunchtime and that we’d better eat before we forgot to feed the children (again, ahem.) We also needed a bathroom break! We knew there were nice bathrooms by the Wish Lounge that MAW families get to use, but we figured there had to be one closer. We started walking around looking for a restaurant and a bathroom and finally found both near Tomorrowland. DH took the other 3 with him while I took Em in the ladies restroom with me hoping it would have a changing table big enough for her and her chair! There was quite a line just to get in the bathroom.

Unfortunately the magic button doesn’t help with bathroom lines. We had to wait about 10 minutes or so for the changing table, but it felt longer! DH and the rest of the crew were finished when we finally came out and we were right across from Cosmic Rays, so we headed there for lunch. Again, the lines were super long but a nice CM helped us to a shorter line. When we got our food and glanced around we realized there was no way we were going to find a table so we just went right out the door and sat on the steps to eat! It had warmed up a bit, so it was actually pretty nice to eat outside.

Since we were already there, we decided to check out the attractions in Tomorrowland. First we came upon Monsters Inc., Laugh Floor. The kids love that movie and I had heard it was funny, so we went gave it a try. While we were waiting, they had TVs playing short clips to entertain us, and they asked anyone who wanted to share a joke to text it and it might get picked to be used during the show. Drew loves jokes, so I asked him to come up with his favorite one and I would text it. He was excited that they might possibly use his joke during the show! After a short wait, they ushered us to our seats. Emily was still awake for the show and the kids were enjoying it and participating with characters on the “stage”. I was little disappointed to figure out that the people who got to be in the show had lights in front of them, but the handicapped seating areas had no lights.

Then they announced that they were going to share some jokes from the audience and Mike said “This first joke is from my friend Drew, from New Jersey”!!! They picked his joke! He was ecstatic! And the joke?

What happens when a ghost falls down?

He gets a “Boo! Boo!”

You know you laughed! ;)

Next, we found Buzz’s Space Ranger Spin. I had heard that the ride was true to its name, pretty “spinny”. But we used our button and GAC and we all got in the FP line. Thank goodness we had that button because it was mobbed! As we got closer to the entrance, DH decided he’d better sit this one out with Em, so he stepped to the side when we got to the cars and I had to quickly decide how I was going to ride with the other 3!!! Brenna is our dare devil, so I put her on with Drew, and Carter and I got on behind them. We all really enjoyed the ride, even Carter who is generally timid in new and unusual settings, and don’t forget the motion sickness issues!

As many of the rides do, it emptied us out into a gift shop, where we allowed the kids to pick their first souvenirs of the trip. The boys quickly found some Buzz Lightyear laser guns and we got a picture with Zurg.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/079.jpg

We promised Brenna she could get a souvenir at the next shop since she didn’t really find anything she liked there. I was hoping we might run into Buzz Lightyear on the way out for our first character meet, but no such luck. :confused3

Since we were all dressed up in our Mickey and Minnie gear, we knew we could get a picture with Mickey in Toontown so we headed there next. We stopped at the Hall of Fame tent to look for a quick souvenir for the girls. I had seen lots of people wearing super cute Minnie headbands and was hoping I could find them to go with the girls’ dresses. Wouldn’t you know, just inside the door was a whole rack of Minnie stuff with the perfect headbands!! DH waited at the entrance with Drew, Carter, and Em talking to a nice CM named Ralph who had mentioned he was also a volunteer at GKTW, while I went with Brenna to the checkout. The girls who checked us out were making a big fuss over Brenna and her Minnie dress and asked if it was our first visit. We told them yes and that we were on Em’s MAW trip. One of the girls said that if we waited just a minute she would get us 1st visit buttons, so we did! Pixie dust!!! She came right back with them and as we were saying our thank yous and getting our receipt, Ralph came rushing over saying DH needed my help because Emily had just gotten sick!! :scared1:

Oh boy, did she ever! Emily had thrown up again all over her beautiful Minnie dress (since we had unzipped her coat as the temps were rising) and even got some on Carter (and his Mickey shirt) who was standing in front of her when it happened! Ralph (that’s ironic!) got us tissues and bag and we always carry wipes so we started cleaning. It was pretty obvious though that Emily and her dress were now in no shape to get pictures with Mickey. So we decided to take the long trek to the Wish Lounge this time. We all needed a break anyway!

The nurses at the First Aid station let me take Emily back to a room with a sink so I could change her and clean her up thoroughly while DH and the other kids went into the Wish Lounge. It was just perfect in there and themed around Aladdin’s Genie, the ultimate wish granter! They had (free!) bottled water and juice boxes for the kids, a magic carpet, some extra extra large floor pillows, a chess table and some books and small toys.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/004.jpg

Drew decided not to rub the lamp since he thought the Genie might accidentally destroy all the nice stuff in the small room!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/003-1.jpg

It did end up taking a while to clean Emily up, take turns getting everyone to the bathroom again and just resting for a bit. So we had to make a big decision here. Our plan was to leave MK and head to Hollywood Studios for the night, then do Epcot and AK tomorrow. But with Em getting sick again and DH still not feeling well, we considering just going back to the village, skipping HS, and doing Epcot and HS the next day. But that would mean we’d have to skip AK altogether because our 3rd and final Disney day was reserved for spending New Year’s Day at MK and a reservation at Crystal Palace. We also couldn’t switch our Epcot day because we had an ADR at Akershus. Uggh.

We did decide to play it safe and headed back to the village. We figured it was a bonus if we made it to every park and that we’d just have to do what we could. Besides, the kids loved the village so much, it was just like being at a park to them anyway!

The carousel was going when we got back so all the kids took a spin, even Emily who was acting as if she hadn’t gotten sick at all. She got to ride like a big girl all by herself since the carousel had two adaptive animals that accommodated wheelchairs. The base of the carousel is completely flush to the ground so she just rolled right in! My camera had wasn’t working all of a sudden, so I couldn’t get pics, but I knew we’d ride again since “the horsies” are Brenna’s favorite and as Drew says, “it’s free!” He really couldn’t get over everything being free at the village, so cute! We ended the day relaxing at our villa and ordering in pizza for dinner.

The rest of the night was uneventful, and we told the kids about our breakfast with the princesses in Norway which we had been keeping a secret. They were excited and everyone got to bed early. :goodvibes

Day 1 – Carter pukes on the plane
Day 2 – Emily pukes at GKTW and MK

Oh, poor Em! Glad to hear in the end that she was acting as if she wasn't feeling sick.

I did find it funny that you pointed out the fact that Ralph helped you out in that situation! :lmao:

I hope that your plans worked out in the end. I always think it's a good choice to call it a day when a kiddo isn't feeling well.

We just got back Thursday from our MAW trip to GKTW. Your pictures are amazing and that picture on ITs a Small world is priceless. Sorry about all the puke - I hear you there. I have 2 with g-tubes.

While I currently live in Northern Virginia (last 7+ years) I am born and raised in South Jersey - Cherry Hill and spend much time at the Jersey shore - Ventnor and of course on the boardwalk in Ocean City - but pushing the convaid cruiser is not the easiest there.

Look forward to reading more.

Epcot – Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Our plan for the day was to head to Epcot as soon as possible, or at least to get there in time to check in for our 10:35 reservation at Akershus. We had had to skip going to Animal Kingdom the day before when Emily had gotten sick in the MK. So, we decided that we would skip Animal Kingdom all together in order to fit in an evening at Hollywood Studios. We really would have loved to see Animal Kingdom, but we had to get Emily to DHS at night to see the Osbourne lights (part of her Wish was for her to see fireworks and light shows), Carter’s fist choice attraction was to meet Mater and McQueen, we wanted Drew to see the Jedi training, and I knew the kids would really love Toy Story mania too.
That was the plan, anyway.

At 3:30am, Emily got sick again, and another round of laundry and cleaning began. She was able to get back to sleep though, so I was hopeful with reducing her feeding rate we could get to Akershus. My husband still was nauseous too, so a big breakfast meal wasn’t tops on his list, but it was the princess experience more than the food that we were going for anyway.

We had told the other kids before they went to bed that we were going to Epcot and Akershus and right as the sun came up, Drew bounded into our bedroom already dressed in his custom Epcot shirt! Carter and Brenna were raring to go too, Emily was settled for the moment, so we decided to go for it.

It was still very chilly (in the 30s!!!) so we got the girls dressed in their gorgeous custom Belle and Cinderella gowns from the Big Give and then had to sadly cover them up with their coats! The boys were all dressed in their Epcot shirts (DH too) and Carter had his prince shirt over his Epcot tee for after our meal. I packed our DHS oufits in a separate bag because if we felt like we could, we didn’t want to come back to GKTW before going to DHS later on.

We made it to Epcot with time to spare and decided to get the double stroller this time for Carter and Brenna. Right away, Emily was upset by the cold air and was crying as we went in. We did stop for a PhotoPass picture in front of “the ball”.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/Photo0027FourBySix.jpg
Emily was too cold! :sad2:

The crowds were small this early (around 9:30), which was so nice, and we headed straight for Norway to check in. When we got there, they told us they were running behind and to come back and check in in 20-30 minutes. We had just passed Mexico and I remembered there was a boat ride there (similar to IASW that Emily loved so much!) that I figured we’d have just enough time to ride while we waited out of the cold morning air.

I should’ve taken a picture of the parked triplet stroller we saw when we got to Mexico, but I didn’t. The kids weren’t in it, nor did we see another set of triplets in Mexico, but I was looking for them anyway. It’s always cool to see other people with triplets!

There was no line when we got to The Three Caballeros que, but the wheelchair accessible boat had just left so we did have to wait for it to come back around. The CMs were very friendly and gave the kids some Mickey stickers. Drew said he hoped he could get enough Mickey stickers to give to his classmates when we returned.

They must've known we were coming, there was a party that day!! ;)
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/002-2.jpg

We all enjoyed the ride and headed back to Akershus to check in. By then, quite a crowd had formed and it was taking a while to call families in to be seated. Emily was becoming more and more upset out in the cold (probably getting up into the 40s now), so Gee-off asked if he could sit with her in the foyer area while Carter, Brenna, Drew and I waited outside to be called. A nice mom who was also waiting with her family offered to take our picture while we were waiting, and after about 15 minutes they announced our “Royal Family”!

Gee-off and Emily joined us in the line to get our pictures taken with Belle first. The CM in the photo line did pull us out of line and got us right up front when they saw Emily which was so nice. Unfortunately, by this time Emily was so upset, she was hysterical for the photos. Because of our family size, we were getting two sets of pictures, and I really wanted to get a family shot and one of Em with Belle. But I decided to let Brenna get her pic with Belle instead since Em wasn’t quite up for it.

I’m really glad I did, because just as we were leaving the picture area to go to our table, Emily got sick again (only a little bit this time- phew)! Luckily, I had put her matching Cinderella bib over her beautiful dress, so only the bib got messed. And wouldn’t you know, as soon as she got sick, she calmed right down and wasn’t upset the whole rest of the time we were there! Poor kid, I wanted to do something to make her feel better, but from our experiences with Em and stomach bugs, there’s not much you can do but wait it out. We did feel bad taking her out while she was sick, but at the same time, we didn’t want her to miss out on her special trip.

Our waitress told us about the food and we got started eating the cold stuff from the buffet while they brought out the hot stuff from the kitchen. The chef came right to our table to check on Carter’s food allergies, which was so reassuring. Luckily Carter had tested out of his egg allergy right before we left for the trip and there wasn’t anything with nuts he would’ve wanted there. My kids in general don’t really like eggs or potatoes so the food was just ok for them, they mostly stuck to the fruit and danishes. I’m sure DH would’ve enjoyed the food more if he had his normal appetite, poor guy, but he ate what he could. I thought the food was very good and ate well. :rolleyes1

Really though, we were there for the princess experience, and it wasn’t long before we saw the first one across the room! It was Snow White, and she was the first one to come to our table. She was sweet enough, signed our books, posed for a few pics, and had the character voice down to a T.

Then Jasmine came over. She was really great with us, really interacting with each of the kids, and us, taking her time signing autographs and taking special time with Emily who was starting to wake up when she arrived. She asked where we were from and asked if New Jersey was the one with the cherry hill (there's a big town called Cherry hill, NJ), and said that Genie loves to vacation there. While Emily was still sleeping, she assured us that that was okay because Rajah likes to nap a lot too. I thought she was just great!!

Then we saw Mulan coming our way! Before the trip, Nurse Ann had let us borrow the movie because the kids had never seen it and they liked Mulan 1 and 2 so much they watched them several each times over a week or so. They were excited to see her.

Just before she arrived, our waitress had snuck by the table and slipped the girls light up Tinks and Buzz’s for the boys. I realized later that we were the only ones that got this “pixie dust” (usually reserved for dinner guests I think) and I was very touched by that.

You can tell Carter really loved his Buzz, he was very excited to tell Mulan all about it! She was fantastic too. She took her time with each one of the kids, deliberately posing for me to take pictures while she was talking to them and they didn’t even know it! I was impressed by that. She was so soft spoken and tender and she really spent time with Emily. I’m tearing up thinking about the special treatment she gave us, it was really wonderful.

I was hoping to see Sleeping Beauty or Ariel next, and I have to be honest, I was disappointed when I saw Mary Poppins. :headache: After all, she’s not really a princess, right?

But after meeting her, I’m so glad she was there. She ended up being my favorite (well, tied with Mulan anyway)!!! Brenna was immediately taken by her white lace dress and fancy hat, and couldn’t stop staring at her and following her around our table.

And then, the princess parade started and Mary took her and Carter by the hands and led them around at the head of the parade!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/056.jpg

Drew followed along too. Unfortunately, Emily didn’t get to parade around because it was really crowded and it didn’t look like there would be enough room for her chair to fit around all of the people. There was a manager-type gentleman near me when I was trying to decide whether to take her around or not, and he was disappointed he couldn’t really help (I certainly understood- and Emily didn’t seem to mind, but it may be something for Disney to think about in the future).

After the parade, the princesses finished going around to the tables and we finished our food while they brought the pictures with Belle around. Mary Poppins came by our table just as they decided to have another parade, and Brenna whooshed off with her again! Lucky girl!
I’m so glad we went! It was expensive, but for the experience (not the food), it was worth it!

After our meal, it had warmed up quite a bit (probably approaching 60!) so we left our coats off, used the very clean Norway bathroom facilities, and headed over to see my buddy Figment!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/057-1.jpg

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/058.jpg

I forgot to mention earlier, that my custom Epcot shirt featured Figment – I’ve always had a soft spot for him since he’s one of the most memorable icons from my childhood trips to WDW.

The CM at the entrance said there was no special entrance for wheelchair access for this ride, so we got in line. It was moving pretty well and it was fun looking at all of the funny things in the que. After waiting maybe 10-15 minutes we all got on the ride (with Emily right in her chair!) We all enjoyed it (even the smelly part!), the kids liked the interactive play activities on the way out and I got to cuddle with my little friend too!

Then, it was off to see Nemo and Friends! On our way there, I spied Chip and Dale greeting guests. Dh wanted to skip that, so we did. I knew we had limited time to finish everything we wanted to do in Epcot and still get to DHS with happy kids so I (kind of) let it go.

We saw the Nemo line up ahead but some guys next to us caught our attention first. A crowd started forming around us, and we were right in front to see the Jammitors! We love music, and the kids especially love drumming, so they thought it was great too!

If you watch the whole thing (about 3 1/2 minutes) you'll get to see Drew jamming and grooving along near the end!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/th_VID00170.jpg (http://s639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/?action=view&current=VID00170.mp4)

Ok, now to Nemo! The line was long and the CM said there was not a separate wheelchair entrance for this ride either. But Gee-off wasn’t having that, so he asked another group of CMs and they told us to go in through the exit area of the Nemo gift shop/aquarium. Score!!

The stroller parking area was mobbed but we found a spot for the double and headed for the exit/entrance. When we entered we headed right for the Nemo ride and a nice CM took us right to the “secret” wheelchair entrance and got us right on. It was a moving walkway to get in the clamshells, so it was a bit tricky, but the CMs took Emily on and Gee-off hopped in with her, while I squeezed in with the others.

The ride was shorter than I expected, the characters on the screens were moving so fast and the sound level was hard to hear. I was a little disappointed, but so thankful we didn’t wait in the line for that!

Then we went right over to Turtle Talk with Crush. A CM met us at the entrance and took us right to the front of line for the next show. We only waited a few minutes to get in. Brenna sat right up front with the kids but Carter and Drew hung back with us and Emily. Once Brenna realized she was “alone”, she came back and sat with us too. I was bummed because I figured Crush would only talk to the kids on the floor, but it was a really cute show. Crush was funny, and the kids really enjoyed it! Emily started fussing during the show though, and I was worried she might get sick, so I went around the seats to ask the CM which doors to take her out of and by the time I got back to her, the show was over! I thought she was going to get sick again, but I think she was just tired of being in her chair and needed to be changed.

So, it was a perfect time to go check out the Epcot VIP lounge.

We knew it was in the base of Spaceship Earth, and there was a sign right at the entrance we happened to go in, but when Drew tried to open the door, it seemed locked. So we looked around for a CM and she led us right back to the door we had already tried!! Drew just hadn’t pulled hard enough! Another family (not a wish family, but an employee of Siemens) was entering right ahead of us so we didn’t get to type in our super secret code to unlock the door. :upsidedow

We took an elevator up to the 2nd floor and checked in, got some free drinks, let the kids walk on the colored floor (which didn’t change color while we there, but I think it was green), played with the touch screen on the wall, and took turns using the very nice bathrooms!

I think I must've been getting tired too, I have no pictures of Nemo area or the Epcot lounge!

The kids were starting to show signs of being tired, so we decided to head out of Epcot (it was about 2:30pm), and let them have a short rest on our way to DHS.

We got a quick PhotoPass pic on the way out and Emily was much happier here!! In fact, this is my favorite family PP picture of the whole trip! And the PP guy gave Drew a bunch more Mickey stickers for his class too! Thank you Epcot PP guy!

Before we left, I was really hoping we would run into fellow DISer, Marv (Marvali), and his family. I didn’t see them, and when we compared notes, it seemed his family was most likely arriving just as we were leaving! We must have JUST missed each other!

Next update: An evening at DHS – who will get sick next? Seriously.

We made the short drive from Epcot to DHS in just a few minutes. Well, I guess it was more like 15-20 minutes because the DHS exit came up so quickly that we passed it and had to back track a bit to get there!! Ooops. Newbies. :rotfl2:

We arrived right around 3pm and began to follow the blue lines for handicapped parking but an attendant told us the lot was full so we’d have to park far out. We asked if it would be okay to check for an empty handicapped spot first since it was later and we thought maybe a few spots would be open if other people had already left for the day. We really do need the room for unloading Emily’s wheelchair and getting her into it next to the van, and the other kids were pretty tired from Epcot too. She gave us a “whatever” kind of shrug and off we went to check.

There were actually several spots available, so I’m really glad we asked. We got a great spot and began our “costume change”. Yup, we had so many amazing custom outfits from the Big Give, that we had two wear different outfits depending on the park!! The boys changed into their Woody and Buzz shirts, and the girls changed into jean skirts and Jessie shirts for toy Story Mania. I do have to apologize to Ann who made the girls gorgeous bows to match each outfit, because I forgot the bows on most of the days! :headache: I put on my Ariel shirt and DH wore his Star Wars Mickey shirt.

I didn't see any Photpass spots when we went in, but I had everyone stop in front of the huge DHS Christmas tree!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/068-1.jpg

We picked up our free double stroller for Brenna and Carter and got our Times Guide and Map so we could find the things we wanted to see; Mater and McQueen meet and greet for Carter, Jedi Training for Drew (and DH), Muppets 3D, Toy Story Mania, and the Osbourne Lights for Em. In the Times Guide there was a 30% off coupon if we ate dinner before 4:30. It was around 3:30 and the first eligible restaurant we found was the Backlot Express so we decided to get an early dinner and spend the rest of the time seeing the attractions.

Unfortunately, I think everyone in the park had the same idea because the line was horrendous and it took me almost an hour to get our food. But the good news was, the Jedi training was happening right next to the outdoor seating area of the restaurant, so while DH was waiting with the kids, Drew got to see the show about 3 times! We all finally got to eat,

and then it all went WRONG!!

Drew asked if he could do the Jedi training. I really had hoped we could fit it in for him, but we had discussed with the kids that we were going to try to do things that Emily could do too, so we said no. And he was very upset. There was no major breakdown or anything, but we could tell he was very disappointed. On top of that, he mentioned that his ear was hurting a little bit. Uh oh. Drew has a history of frequent ear infections and 3 surgeries for ear tubes, so when his ear hurts, it’s usually an ear infection. I was hopeful that maybe he was just faking because he was mad.

We decided to go find Mater and McQueen first, but came upon the Tatooine gift shop, where we let Drew pick a souvenir and the kids “rode” the Star Wars vehicle. [Forgive me for not knowing the real name, Star Wars fans! Drew says it's the Clone speeder bike??]

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/072.jpg

Drew seemed much happier after that, so we continued on and found Mater and McQueen! There was quite a line and we hadn’t used our magic button to cut any character lines yet, so we were apprehensive, but I got my nerve up to ask the CM at the front and they got us right in. I think the kids were kind of freaked out by the size of the cars because they look a little scared in the pictures! And we were so nervous about cutting the line that we didn’t think to get in the picture with them! Newbies. ;)

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/Photo0046FourBySix.jpg

We saw the Muppet 3D show right around the corner, and we decided to go see it. DH and I love the Muppets and it was his first choice attraction.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/077-1.jpg

While we were waiting in line, Drew starting complaining about his ear again, but we saw the show (I think I fell asleep for a few minutes in the audtorium!!!) and enjoyed it. On the way out, the pain had intensified and Drew was now in tears which is not normal for him! It had also gotten dark and cold again. And we had left our jackets in the car.

We stopped in the Muppets gift shop so we could get Em a blanket to keep her warm and take turns running the kids to the bathroom, hoping that maybe we could get him to calm down and stay just a little longer. When I got back from the bathroom with Brenna, the super sweet CM at the register was offering a still crying Drew a pin from her collection! He was so upset about his ear that he said no, but she let me pick one for him. And then, when she realized Brenna and Carter were interested, she let them each pick a pin too!! I didn’t get her name, but I really appreciated that!

We decided then that we couldn’t drag Drew around in terrible pain any longer and we had been out at the parks long enough. It meant skipping Toy Story Mania altogether, but it was the right decision. We started to head out of the park and were directed by park attendants to follow the traffic one way, the opposite way of the exit!

It did work out in our favor though, because they were leading everyone to the street where the Osbourne light show was starting! Most everyone was stopped to watch the light show along the street, but we just kept moving and saw the light show on fast forward! Emily did get to see it and I got some quick pics and a video, but we zoomed through it for Drew’s sake.

We went right to the van, loaded everyone in, and they all slept on the way home. Gee-off and I discussed changing our plans for going to Universal the next day, since it seemed like we might need to make a trip to the doctor!

They were really beautiful, what a sight! Thanks, it's hard to be unhappy in DisneyWorld!! We were definitely being tested though. When Em woke up sick that first morning I really thought we might just have to pack it all up and go home, but we just wanted to stick it out and try to make the most of it! Why go home and be miserable thinking of everything we didn't get to do?

Granted, I'm still thinking about all we didn't get to do on the days we had to leave the parks early or the parks we had to skip, but we're so grateful for what we did get to do!

Thursday, December 30, 2010 – Day 4

Our original plans for this day were to head to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure to see Seuss Landing for the little ones, but more so to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter for Drew. He is a HUGE fan (as are my husband and I)!!!

Unfortunately we suspected Drew had an ear infection because of the pain he was in the night before at DHS. We had given him some Tylenol before putting him to bed hoping that would at least ease the pain so he could sleep. But with Emily being sick already and now Drew, we thought we might need to take a day off to stay at the village and get the sickies to one of the Urgent care centers.

The GKTW staff had asked how we were doing many times as they saw us around the village and they had already asked us if we wanted to take Em to see a doctor. We decided not to take Em, since we already have a pretty standard protocol for her when she has a stomach bug and I knew they couldn’t really give her anything to make it go away. Drew, on the other hand, probably needed antibiotics. But, he knew that today was our WWoHP day and he woke up feeling ok. Emily had a good night too, no vomiting! And we knew that if we skipped US today, we’d need to go on Friday, which was New Year’s Eve. We were worried it would be much too crowded on Friday!

We figured we’d get some breakfast at the Gingerbread House (our first time eating there!), take our time and see how they felt after eating. We dressed up in our red/white Mickey and Minnie outfits (all washed and clean from Tuesday) for our photos with Mickey and Minnie in the theater. I definitely didn’t want to miss that!!

On our way, we stopped to see if Ol' Elmer was awake yet.

We had a wonderful meet and greet with the mice and got some of the best photos of the trip. We even got some amazing smiles from Em! The GKTW photographer took pics for us and a nice volunteer took some of these with my camera too (the blurry ones!).

After that, everyone still seemed ok, so we decided to go for it!!! We went back to the villa, changed and headed to US. We planned to keep it a short trip, focusing on seeing the shops in WWoHP for Drew, and a few things in Seuss Landing so we’d be back in time for the Christmas party at GKTW that night! So much to do!!!!!

We drove toward US and just as we reached the exit for parking we saw an awful sign. They had one of those flashing road signs stating US IOA is at capacity, but please enjoy US!!!! Ahhhhhhh!

My heart just broke for Drew. I knew we could have fun on the US side, Drew loves SpongeBob too, but his heart was set on seeing Harry Potter. We kept going, trying to decide what to do. We parked and made the long walk to the entrance of the park.

The cast members (do they call them that here too??) were holding up signs directing people to the Universal Studios entrance. There were people heading to a standby line for US IOA, but the line was long and wide. This was just to get into the park! We had no idea how many people they were going to let in at a time or how long it would take. We overheard another family asking a CM about the wait and she said they were letting large groups of people in every 15 minutes or so. I was ready to just let it go and head to a less crowded US, but my husband really wanted to wait so Drew could see HP. So we got in line.

I didn’t want to get separated while we were in such a wide line so I suggested we wait right along the ropes they had set up. After a few minutes, a CM came down the rope and handed out some Dr. Seuss stickers to the kids. While she was handing out the stickers to our little ones, she noticed Em’s GKTW button. She asked if we were on a Wish trip and immediately opened the ropes for us and let us go right ahead to the entrance! Wow!!!
We were so grateful. I had heard Universal was really good at giving wish kids front of line access for rides, but I really didn’t think it would get us in when the park was at capacity!

The first area we came upon was Seuss Landing.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/075-1.jpg

Just as we were deciding how to get to the WWoHP area from there, Emily threw up again. Poor girl. I really thought she was done and feeling better after all the smiles in the morning. She wasn’t too upset after we changed her shirt and cleaned her up so we kept going.

We really didn’t even need to look at a map. EVERYONE was headed to WWoHP. So we followed the crowd. There were also CMs holding signs pointing out the way as well. And other CMs were directing people to take the path to US instead. Some people were talking about getting timed tickets to enter later. Seriously. I had read (on the DIS before we left) that there were lines to get into HP area, lines for each ride, and more lines for the stores! And that was exactly what we encountered.

Since our magic button had gotten us through the first line, DH figured maybe it would get us through the next one. So we passed the people waiting in the timed ticket line, and approached a CM at the bridge to Hogsmeade. DH showed him our pass and asked if we could go in. Again, we were let right in!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/077-2.jpg

In Hogsmeade, the crowd was literally shoulder to shoulder. We decided we would get Drew to Ollivander’s wand shop to get his wand, maybe to the candy shop and get out of there! It was almost ridiculous trying to maneuver a double stroller and Em’s kidkart through the crazy crowds!

DH held on tight to Drew and we made our way to Ollivander’s.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/078-1.jpg

We knew there would be a wait to get in but when we saw the line wrapped around several other stores, we thought it might not be possible with all the little ones. We asked the people at the front of the line how long they had been waiting and they said an hour. We decided to just do it. We really didn’t want Drew to leave without seeing the wand choosing “show”. The CM at the door to the shop said we’d have to leave the strollers up with him because they wouldn't fit through the que, or DH could wait in line with Drew and we could join them when they got to the front of the line. I asked if we’d be able to get Em’s wheelchair in the shop, since she couldn’t get out of it, and then he took a second glance at the GAC I had around my neck and asked if we were with GKTW. Yes!!!! He said, “Well then, you don’t have to wait in the que at all! Just wait here and we’ll get you in the next show!” :worship:

I could’ve cried right there. I almost did, but then I felt bad for the people at the front of the line who’d just told us they ‘d waited an hour!

Literally 2 minutes later, they let us in and ushered us to the right corner of the shop and everyone else filed in to the left. I knew we had already gotten so much special treatment but DH and I were just crossing our fingers that Drew would get picked by Ollivander to have his wand chosen out of the group. They dimmed the lights and Mr. Ollivander (who did an excellent portrayal by the way!) started scanning the crowd for someone right away. He came over to us and said he knew someone from this special family was looking for a wand!

Okay, the tears started coming now. He led Drew over to his desk and began the wand show. It was an unbelievable experience for Drew and for us too! We were so happy for him! He has been through so much too and really deserved this special moment!

The video is very dark and also hard to hear but I’ll post it anyway. You can probably hear me sniffing through it!

Drew at Ollivander's Wand Shop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOpeHNcYVgU)

We purchased Drew’s wand and headed back out into the crowded alley toward HoneyDuke’s Candy Shop. Again, there was a line just to get in! We saw that there was side door being guarded by a CM, so Dh thought he’d try to get in with the button again. I wanted to stay outside with Carter and Brenna to avoid a huge stroller in a tiny shop, so DH took Drew and Em and got on the side door. Magic again!

The nice CM that let them in the side entrance! :)

I couldn’t resist stopping for some frozen Butterbeer on our way out though. We did wait in line for those! It was so worth it.

Thursday, December 30, 2010 Part 2: Christmas at GKTW

When we arrived back at the villa we rested a bit and had another COSTUME CHANGE for Christmas night at GKTW. We dressed in festive colors and went to dinner, where a super nice volunteer sat with the kids while Gee-off and I stood in line for turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

After we finished dinner, we went back to the Safari Theatre, which was newly decorated in a Christmas theme and Santa himself was there for photos. We were one of the first families in line (third, I think), and it was worth it to get there early. We saw Santa and each of the kids picked out a present.

Em wasn't too happy about the man in the red suit
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/Santa30.jpg

Then we watched a choir from Alabama sing some carols. They invited any kid who wanted to come join them and ring bells. Drew, Carter, and especially Brenna really enjoyed performing with the choir. Brenna made some new best friends. ;)

We had some time before the Christmas parade so we decided to take a carriage ride. We were excited because the carriage was accessible. A carriage was just coming back when we arrived, and I was a bit disappointed that a few other families butted ahead of us to get in the carriage and there wasn't enough room for all 6 of us to get on. We weren't too upset, so we just waited. But we started to realize it was a pretty long ride. One of the volunters told us it was about a 12 minute ride, so we decided just to skip since we were worried that Em might be uncomfortable if it was too bumpy for too long.

While we waited for the parade, we got some more ice cream cones. Why not??

The parade came by with GKTW characters who danced with all of the families while music played and it even began to “snow”!! They passed out elf hats and reindeer ears and had cotton candy too. Emily really liked the strands of lights hanging from the cart that was playing the music.

It was another fantastic night, and we went back to the villa exhausted, but happy.

The next day we planned to visit Seaworld and come back to GKTW early for the Pirates and Princesses Party on New Year’s Eve. We had pushed through today though and hadn’t gotten Drew’s ears checked. Carter was also showing some signs of starting his own ear infection.

We knew we should get the kids to the doctor, but we didn't want them to miss another park . . . .

Hi! Thanks for continuing to check in on us. I have to peek at your PTR one of these days.

So happy to read another update...the Party looks amazing for Christmas and I love that you all coordinated in Christmas Colors...BEAUTIFUL!!! :goodvibes

I really loved the Christmas party, the kids all had a blast! The girls had just worn the candy cane dresses for our Christmas at home, so I had just washed them and then thought to pack them for the party at GKTW. My mom bought them so I knew she'd be happy to see that they wore them more than once too! :laundy:

I am having fun reading your TR...they are are really fun to read after you return since you get to relive your memories too!

Well, it's been a long time since my last update Em was sick again, bronciolitis this time. Brought her to the ER two nights in a row with a bad cough and trouble breathing. They put her on a steroid that helped the cough but made her heart rate and blood sugars go crazy. :(

She is doing fine now though. Drew started baseball and well, we've just been busy!

I have the first part of Day 5 coming up . . . . .

Day 5 of our trip was Friday, December 31, 2010 – New Year’s Eve!!!!

We had planned to go to SeaWorld today, but Gee-off was still having nausea, we needed to get Drew’s ear checked, and Carter was starting to act sick too. Emily’s nausea seemed to be coming to an end, thank goodness, so we decided the boys would go off to one of the Urgent Care centers and the girls and I would hang out at the village. Although I really wanted to have the SeaWorld experience, I just couldn't justify going to another park with everyone sick and potentially miserable.

But first, we wanted to see which Universal characters were visiting GKTW, so we headed out for breakfast and then to the Castle.

I knew we had time to spare today so I tried to take more pictures of "the little things" around the Village.

Inside the Gingerbread House:

We were in Florida the first week of April and I'm finally catching up on threads. Somehow I lost my subscription to your thread and was further behind than I should have been. :sad2:

But I'm all caught up now. I love the photos of the kids with Mickey and Minnie; the family photo with Scooby is absolutely wonderful.

Having followed Tim's TR for Ana's wish trip, it just warms my heart to see what GKTW does. Having never known about it previously until reading Tim's report and now yours, they will become our annual Christmas donation every year.

Looking forward to reading about the girl's spa day.

Well, the neurology appointments weren't quite what I was hoping. She has lost some weight and her spasms (seizures) have increased a bit since we had our trip. :(

They will probably need to adjust her keto diet a bit to add calories, but they can't decrease her carbohydrates because of her hypoglycemia and they can't decrease her protein because of low albumin levels.

We have to do a fasting blood test on Friday (she can only handle about 3 1/2 hours of fasting) and then they'll decide how to asdjust the diet (how we make the formula). Also her EEG showed some hypsarrhythmia which was the worst news. It's the chaotic waves in her brain that causes it not to be able function properly. Before the diet, she had "hyps" through the whole EEG, but after starting the diet, it went away. She's been on the diet for over 2 years now and they saw about 2 minutes of it at the beginning of the EEG this time.

The good news is, she is still doing well, and actually making some progress with her skills so her doc said she's encouraged by that, and she'd be more apt to do something right away if she was regressing at all or losing skills, sleeping more at school, etc. But we may need to add a another drug soon.

Just not what I was hoping. :headache:

I'll try to finish day 5 soon. Thanks again for thinking of us! :grouphug:

So after a little ice cream for lunch, the boys went back to see the doctor, and the girls and I went back to the villa for a rest. It's been so long now, I'm not sure what we did - it was either Brenna and I watched a movie while Em napped, or all 3 of us napped.

Either way, the boys returned with 3 prescriptions, one for nausea for Daddy, and two for ear infections.

Then we were ready to do some more exploring in the Village. It was really nice to have a day to just be at the village. We did have to give up a day at a park to do it but it was really necessary with the sicknesses.

It's important to note here that Emily was vomit free so far this day!! Things were definitely looking up!

Back together again, all 6 of us headed over to the Castle of Miracles to make Emily's star. This was really hard. I had to make it for her, and just like everything else, I just wish so much she could do it herself!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/032-3.jpg

Gee-off didn’t really want to eat, so he brought her back to the villa and relaxed while I took Drew, Carter, and Brenna to dinner at the Gingerbread house.

After that we went back to the villa to get dolled up for the Pirates and Princesses party!!

We knew it was time to get back to the villa after that! They had a countdown and a ball drop on the ship at 9pm and then we called it a night! Such a great day!

Now I know I have some video from the party, so I'll be posting that next . . .

Ok Carter's pic of chugging down the cider was too cute!!! Love the photo of Em and Brenna together. And I think its so adorable that Brenna gets into her 'princess pose' for photos. I'm glad to hear that everyone seemed to be feeling better that night.

Oh my goodness!!! My last visit was 7-3-11!!! Bad Dis-er! :rotfl2:

Well, things have been good but BUSY around here!!

Emily had summer session at school, and Carter and Brenna got to go to Summer Day Camp with Drew for the first time this summer with DH who is a counselor there.

I decided to start my own photography business and spent a lot of my free time doing photo sessions here in town where we live and on the beach too (we are just 45 minutes or so from the shore)! I have a business page on FB, but I'm not sure I can post a link here or if that's against the rules!

My sister had a new baby boy in July so I went up to Maine for a few days by myself to see her and got to be there for his birth!

Then in August we used our World Passport from GKTW and took the kids to PA for 4 days and went to Dorney Park, Hershey Park, and Dutch Wonderland. We had a lot of fun, but Emily could hardly go on anything. Definitely not like Disney! :woohoo:

Now everyone is in school again, Carter and Brenna in half day Pre-K, Drew and Em go all day. Everyone is doing really well at school.

We also decided to try to renovate our house for Emily since all of our bedrooms and baths are upstairs. But after having someone out to the house, it wasn't really doable. So we're moving! We found a house that will be totally accessible for Emily :yay: and every kid will get their own room too! :cool1: We should settle on the new house after Thanksgiving and our house goes up on the market tomorrow!! Hoping for a quick sale!!!

Anyhooo . . . .

I really want to get my trip report finished! We had a GREAT day in Magic Kingdom on New Year's Day so I want to get that up and our last day was spent at Downtown Disney.

Soon, I swear!

Congrats on the new house. It's wonderfull that all the kids will have thier own rooms. Makes for peace for you. Pixie dust that your house sells fast. Can't wait to read more about your trip.

We had BIG plans for this day!

I had read here on the boards that sometimes New Year's Day can be less crowded first thing in the morning sionce people who stayed out late would be sleeping in, so we wanted to get to MK by 9am. We had reservations for lunch with Pooh and Friends at 11am. We still needed to meet the princesses and the fairies. We had several more rides to get to, and we absolutely hoped to stay late to see Wishes. We also had plans to meet up with an old friend of DH's who is a CM. Busy, busy!

BUT, everyone was finally feeling well!

AND, the weather was going to be in the 70s!!!! (not the 50s like all the previous days) :cool1:

Our plan started off well, and we did get to MK right around 9:15, which is pretty amazing for us!!

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu115/aimeelynn4/Make%20a%20Wish%20Trip/Photo0054FourBySix.jpg

We knew DH's friend was going to be in the Castle show, so we made our way down made street and found a spot right up front.

I actually need to upload the last two days worth of pics to photobucket before I can go on!

Be back later!!

Then we were off for a boat ride!

We did have to wait a short bit for the accessible boat to make its way around, but they put Em on like experts.

**For those with children in wheelchairs, there were a few rides where the CMs have to put your child on the ride themselves and you just have to stand back and watch. A little disconcerting at first, but they were always very careful, of course!

After our cruise, it was almost time to head to CP for our lunch with Pooh. But we had about 20 minutes to spare. Luckily, as we walked toward CP, Ariel was out for greetings!!!

The CM and guests in line at this station were particularly nice and understanding of our line cutting. I expressed to the CM how I felt a little guilty for butting in line when people had been waiting and he was like, That's what we're here for, don't even think twice about it! :wizard:

Ariel was so gracious and patient with my crew. They were really loving her and she just let them keep hugging her and sitting on her lap and it was really wonderful. She was really sweet with Em too.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner!! Yes, Emily does have CVI. The things she loved the most were the rides/attractions with music and lights. It's a Small World was a huge hit, as was the Winnie the Pooh ride, she loved the black light effects on that one! We were hoping the fireworks would be great for her, but unfortunately we couldn't get close enough for her to really enjoy it. We had to speed through the Osborne Light show in DHS because my son was sick or I think she would've really enjoyed that too. And I think the bright whiteness of the Crystal Palace is what she really liked (plus they were all finally feeling better by day 6!) Have a great trip!!!

I just sat here and read every update to your entire TR! I love it, and will subscribe now to follow along until the end.

The video your dh made for Emily is beautiful..my favorite part is at the end, the video of her just smiling away. It always amazes me when children who experience so much difficulty just have the most amazing spirit, and Emily certainly does.

Another favorite - the photo of Snow White blowing a kiss down on Emily at Akershus..simply a beautiful shot.

Emily’s Wish Day 6 - (In Daddy's words)
. . . this is the rest of day 6, after our lunch at the Crystal Palace.

A costume change was in order!! We were off to meet the Princesses and Fairies. We met the princesses first after about a 10 minute wait and a frightening moment when Brenna walked the wrong direction in pursuit of a Mickey Mouse sticker. It was only about 5 seconds of absolute fear, but everything was in slow motion, just like in the movies. We met Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Belle (in yellow- and no, they didn’t think it was odd that she didn’t remember them from before). They spent SO MUCH TIME with us and the rest of the room was empty, which I don’t think is the norm. I know a ten minute wait isn’t the norm either, so needless to say, Aimee and I really appreciated the VIP treatment Emily and the whole family received throughout the trip, but especially the personal touch received when meeting the characters.

We had to wait just another five minutes or so to meet the fairies, where we met Fawn, Tinkerbelle, and Vidia. We especially liked Fawn and Vidia, because it was clear that they both really enjoyed their characters.

The highlight of our day came at somewhat of a surprise. I think the ride was called, The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and to me, it seemed pretty ordinary. We had virtually no wait and the handicapped car was able to have the bouncing turned off (thank heavens!). Emily absolutely LOVED THIS RIDE. I screamed ahead to Aimee (who had the other kids in a separate car) because Emily was looking, smiling, and audibly laughing pretty much the whole time. There were lots of bright orange and yellow things, which Emily favors, plus black lights, which really made them jump out. Aimee and I had sort of decided for her that Tigger is her favorite, but boy-oh-boy did she verify it during this ride! I was so excited for her. Don’t think us strange if you ever visit and we have a fluorescent Tigger picture and black lights in our living room!

Right after the ride, I checked my cell phone for messages as (my old friend) Tommy would have a two-hour break between 3:30 and 5:30 and I was hoping to get to see him. He caught up with us behind the castle within a few minutes and took some much needed “Facebook Update” photos (the only other shot we have was 14 years ago). The family took to him quickly, and we were able to catch up while we waited in line for the coveted Dole Whip. This was Aimee’s surprise for me: Pineapple softserve ice cream. I’d never heard of it, but certainly will never forget it.

After lots of peer pressure and a slight mockery by Aimee of a certain Jamboree, we decided to alter our schedule and visit the Tiki Room, which was really fun. I caught Brenna out of the corner of my eye clapping furiously right after the first bird sang. She (and the rest of us) thought it was really cute.
Unfortunately, Tommy needed to get back for his next shift, so we said our goodbyes. (It was great seeing you again, Tommy!)

We made our way to the Magic Carpets where Aimee, Carter, Brenna, and Drew got “spit on” by a camel during the fun flying adventure. Emily hung out by the exit for this one!

The Country Bear Jamboree was as much fun as I remembered and more fun than Aimee remembered. We both agree that your perspective changes when you have kids and you enjoy things because you see how much they appreciate it. This was especially clear to us during this last week.

This is the part of this post where I mention how Aimee and I scoffed at the idea of standing and holding a spot for the parade because everyone was getting cranky and the 45 minutes would have been not fun. We figured we’d be able to see the bright lights no matter where we were… (some of you may know where this is leading…) Aimee took Drew, Carter, and Brenna on Peter Pan as the last ride before the parade and fireworks and they all came out excited about it. Emily had been fading out and we really wanted her to be awake for the bright lights, so we didn’t push it.
We returned to the Wish Lounge for Emily’s care and drinks and I took turns running Brenna, Carter, and Drew to the restroom. The looks I was getting from the people sitting on the patio were pretty funny since I kept coming out of the door with a different kid.

When we finally made it out we started to understand why people planned their spots so meticulously. We couldn’t get near the street, which would have been ok if everyone stayed sitting. Unfortunately, everyone in the front stands up, and everyone in the second row on puts their kid on their shoulders. Thus, even Aimee and I couldn’t see and we were grossly outnumbered in the kid to shoulders ratio.

We wanted Emily to see it, so I held her up and Aimee took turns holding up each of the other three, but although this works in theory, there are several problems with this plan. One, neither Aimee nor I particularly enjoy holding children in the air for extended periods of time. Two, the two kids on the ground typically get bored since they can’t see and tend to wander a bit in a large noisy crowd IN THE DARK. And Three, as time elapsed, Carter, and Brenna were much less tolerant of being on the ground for extended periods, so they just cranky crashed into tantrums… meanwhile, I was stressed out that we’d lose a wandering crankster. This is where I definitely ended up being unhappy at Disneyworld. Now the bright side of all of this is that Emily loved what she saw, as did everyone else; it was just a bit of a letdown. The good news was that we were in prime position for the fireworks that would start in an hour. But… Now we were an hour hungrier and an hour crankier.

We went over to get hot dogs so we could come right back, but apparently hot dogs are in much higher demand right after the parade than they were 10 minutes ago, so we waited in line much longer than we expected. By the time we finished eating, the fireworks were about to begin.
Tommy had told me that we would be fine if we were in front of the castle. When we started to move that way, there wasn’t enough room to get the stroller through and we had to go back to the left and eventually just had to stop and watch because otherwise we’d miss it while trying to find a spot.

Again, Emily was awake throughout, didn’t seem bothered by the loud noises, and clearly watched the lights during the whole presentation. But it was a bit of a letdown after all the planning.
We talked about it and decided to stay for the next parade (I (Aimee)did NOT want to leave Disney feeling disappointed over rotten fireworks seats!!!!), even though we were another hour crankier and another hour loopier. We staked our spots on the sidewalk edge and joked and sang songs, and cuddled together waiting for our incredible trip end on a high note. It was SO WORTH IT. Cranky or not, it was worth it.

Wish Day 7

We ate breakfast, cleaned up, packed, went on a final carousel ride and checked out.
As promised, we took Drew and the money from his piggy bank to the Lego store at Downtown Disney. He was able to find some things he liked and we got to see some really neat creations.

On the way to the airport, Carter got sick in the car and needed to be changed, plus emptying out a rental car when you have a child who needs to be held and another who wants to be held is pretty impossible without other adults. All told, it took nearly an hour to get to the ticket counter.
Adam the TSA Agent came to our rescue. He escorted us through the checkpoint and carried Em’s car seat and two bags all the way to our flight.
Luckily, since the flight was full, we (and anyone else on the flight) were invited to check additional carry-ons for free, which made transferring to the plane and off much easier.
The flight was unremarkable; the ride home was quick and warm. I’m looking forward to going to bed after a long week wishes coming true. Thanks Make a Wish-New Jersey, Give Kids The World, and all the sponsors of these incredible organizations. We will never forget this week.

I'm going to steal these posts directly from my hubby's blog reports because I have just put this off for too long! Sorry. :( I want to come back and post pics, especially of the Big Give outfits that haven't been given their proper spotlight yet, but time is just not on my side, ever lately!!

Aimee, I know what you mean about time not being on your side. I am so thankful for you and your husband sharing your beautiful family with us. I look forward to seeing more pics and your beautiful children!

Aimee, hard to believe you are all finished up, and even harder to believe it has been over a year since we were both there at New Years! Even though we didn't get to pull off the DISmeet we had hoped for, it has still been great getting to know your beautiful family here on the DIS! Thanks for sharing all the wonderful pictures!

that's nice

Hey Aimee!

I had to go back and read the last few updates. I took a DIS hiatus after Christopher was born in August. I didn't have the time or energy. :lmao:

Something came over Emily and she began to smile the biggest, brightest smiles we had seen the whole trip!!

These pictures are from our meeting with the princesses, on Day 6 of our trip, after our lunch at Crystal Palace.

The girls changed into their Minnie Fairy tutu outfits from the Big Give by Wendy! :cool1: They closed off the whole room and we had Aurora, Cinderella, and Belle all to ourselves!! So magical!

After the Jamboree, we decided to try to get on a few more rides before SpectroMagic parade and Wishes fireworks.
We went on Peter Pan and then all 6 of us went on Winnie the Pooh. I'm so glad we decided to squeeze that ride in, Em LOVED it!! I think it was the black lights!

Unfortunately we cut it so close to the parade starting that we couldn't see at all. We ended up in front of the castle but behind about 8 rows of people!

We were determined not to leave Disney disappointed! So even though it was very late and the kids were beyond exhausted, we decided to head to Main St., find a spot on the curb, and wait it out until the next SpectroMagic Parade. We were so glad we did because we had an excellent view!

It was almost 10pm when I took this picture, and they are still smiling!! I think you can see the "snowflakes" in their hair too! :) Remember, this was New Year's Day, 2011.
