Day Three - Finally MK!

Well, today is the day we go to MK. We woke up later than usual and went to WCC for breakfast. Our server this morning was “Prospector Penny.” She was nice and very attentive. Mark had Humphrey’s two-egg breakfast and I decided on Cousin Katie’s toast (French toast with cinnamon apples - yum). We were on our way by 9:30 (can you tell we’re not the “Commando-style” park goers?) and mistakenly headed out to the bus stop again. You have to take a boat ride to the MK from the WL. I knew this from reading these boards, but did I remember? Noooooo. Oh well. We needed a little exercise after all the eating we’ve been doing.

We arrived at the boat dock and sat down on a bench in the shade. The boat pulled up about 5 minutes later. It went straight to the MK. It only took about 5 – 7 minutes overall. And it was a very enjoyable trip. I especially like when the boat sails over the road. It’s funny to watch the cars go under the bridge and point to the boat overhead.

Since we got up later than expected, and ate breakfast later than expected, we thought we’d better try to change our lunch PS at the Plaza Restaurant. It was originally scheduled for 12-noon. We successfully changed our PS to 1:30 PM and headed to Tomorrowland. CoP was not operating, much to my dismay. So we backtracked to BLSRS and walked on with no wait! I tried to find the “special” targets I had heard about on this site, but couldn’t. Mark and I ended the game as “Planetary Pilots.” Our scores were both around 130,000. Next we went on SM. We waited about 10 minutes! I can’t believe these crowds (or lack thereof)! They split us up (made us ride in two separate cars) which didn’t make me very happy, especially since they weren’t that busy. But we met up again at the end and made the obligatory faces into the video cameras as we left.

Fantasyland seemed more crowded than the other areas of the park (naturally) so we wandered through without stopping. When we got to Liberty Square we found that the HM was closed for refurbishment. I was so upset! I have to have my HM fix! Feeling somewhat disappointed we went to the Mike Fink keelboats to take a ride over to Tom Sawyer Island. We hadn’t done this in ages so it was like a new experience. We looked for a paintbrush (are they still doing this?) but didn’t find one. It looks like Aunt Polly’s is just serving snacks now. When did this change? The caves were cool and dark and felt really good compared to the heat outside! Mark had to shake me half to death on the barrel bridge! We felt like a couple of kids!

We left the island after about 30 minutes or so and headed to the Country Bear Jamboree. We sat next to a family with a little girl (about 3 or 4 years old, I think) who was absolutely terrified of the moose and deer heads that hang on the wall. They talk and carry on before the show. Well, her dad (?) had a hard time getting her calmed down enough to watch the bears, but she finally relaxed and enjoyed the show. Unfortunately, when you exit the theater, you must pass directly under the moose and deer heads! I think she may have been scarred for life from the way she was acting when we left the group behind!

Next, I had to do PotC. We stopped at a restroom just before we got there and Captain Hook and Smee were standing outside signing autographs and taking pictures. While I waited for Mark, a little girl ran up (maybe five or six years old), and in her excitement to see the characters, she dropped her ice cream she was carrying. She burst into tears and her father yelled very harshly at her to stop and that it was her own fault she dropped the ice cream. She just stood in one place crying until her grandmother came and scooped her up in her arms and threw the ice cream away. The grandmother tried to console her as they walked away. Mark and I headed for PotC and there was that same family, getting on ahead of us. The little girl was still crying. Her father grabbed her by the arm and yanked her to the side. He smacked her hard across the face and said, “It’s your own fault, now SHUT UP!” I couldn’t stop myself from gasping and staring at them. The mother and grandmother looked very embarrassed and the little girl clung to her mother through the length of the line. When we got to the boats, the man had somehow lagged behind us and several other people in line. The mother, grandmother, and little girl walked up to get on the boat. Then the CM seated Mark and I behind them. The man came up after the boat had been filled and tried to get on with the rest of his family (he was now carrying a little boy – 2 or 3 years old). When the CM stopped him he threw a fit. He yelled that he was just getting his son couldn’t they see that! They seated him at the back of the boat. At this point, I just wanted to get off the boat. I didn’t even enjoy the ride. Mark and I just looked at each other in amazement. Neither of us could believe this man’s actions.

After PotC, we decided to do something pretty relaxing like the Jungle Cruise. What could happen on the JC? First we checked to make sure that the man and his family wouldn’t be riding. They went in the other direction. We got in line at the JC and waited a few minutes. While waiting, I heard a little girl (she had to be about 2 years old) tell her mother she had to go potty. Her mother didn’t want to get out of line and told her to hold it. Apparently, the little girl couldn’t hold it, because the next thing I knew, her mother was pulling off her training pants and let her go RIGHT ON THE SIDEWALK! I didn’t realize what I was seeing at first. I guess I just never would’ve thought anyone would do that! But there it was. She got up and there was a puddle spreading on the ground about six feet away from me. Again, I was absolutely dumbfounded. She and her mother began walking ahead to keep up with the line. Mark and I looked around to see if there was a CM nearby. Someone must have already said something, because a CM with a very sour look on his face came and stood in front of the puddle so no one would walk through it.

What is going on here? We are being plagued by absurdities!! Never have I found myself absolutely speechless twice in the space of an hour. Believe me. That’s saying a lot! Maybe it was a full moon this night.

After the JC, it was time for our PS at the Plaza Restaurant. We made our way over to Main Street and enjoyed a relaxing lunch seated next to a very friendly older couple. The man’s name was Donald and I regret that I cannot remember the woman’s name. They explained that they live in Orlando and like to come to WDW for lunch. We chatted for a while until Janette (our server) brought our food. I had the tuna salad sandwich with fries and Mark decided to try the turkey sandwich with German potato salad. The sandwiches were great, but the potato salad was just too vinegar-y for Mark. I tried some and it was a bit strong. It was good though, I thought. To make up for his disappointment with his potato salad, we simply had to split a brownie sundae. It was huge! But we ate the whole thing.

After lunch we headed back to the hotel. The boat at MK was docked and waiting for us. And it took no time at all to back to the room for a short nap. When we awoke we walked over to the Villas and wandered down to the geyser to see it go off. We spent the entire evening relaxing and enjoying the laid-back atmosphere of the resort. I can’t remember when I’ve had so much fun just BEING at the resort.

We had a late dinner at WCC and decided to try the skillet everyone was talking about. First off, this is A LOT of food. So if you want to eat it, come hungry.

We ended up in our room around 8 or 8:30 and watched the rest of Big Brother 3. I know. Pretty pitiful, huh? But we are finding more and more that we really enjoy the relaxing style of vacation.

There is a drawing for the Florida lottery tonight. I think it’s $63 million. Boy, that would pay for a lot of relaxing vacations! Tomorrow it’s on to Disney/MGM Studios!

Wow, those parents were incredible. I don't think I would have been able to stop myself from saying something when the father slapped the little girl.

Thanks for the reports, I'm enjoying them. :D

I give you credit for not saying anything to the mother & the kid peeing on the sidewalk I would not have been able to stifle myself..... Parents always seem to think if there kids miss a second or two of something (I myself am guilty of this) she could've gotten off of the line to let the kid releave (sp) herself, how gross....Hope you enjoy the rest of your vaca!

My wife and I leave for the WDW in 1 day. Trip reports like yours really get us into the Disney mood.

I learn a lot from these boards. When we have children I hope I never loose my cool over waiting for a JC ride or an Ice Cream cone.

Thanks for your trip reports. Felt like I was back at WL reading them!

Sorry about your migraine and crazy parents seen in MK. They sure are out there!

Lucky you to live in Tampa!

We looked for the paintbrushes too. I had a feeling that they weren't doing it anymore, but my boys seemed so disappointed that I told them, that other children must have found them all already!

Wow! You sure ran into some crazy parents.

There were two times I felt like a horrible parent while at WDW. One was when I complained to our 9 year old son that I had paid $10.00 for a grilled cheese (when he wouldn't eat the meat at Ohana's) and this made him cry. And the second time was when we went ahead and pulled down the overhead bar on ExtraTERRORestrial for our 7 year old son, even though he was whimpering a bit. But after hearing your stories, I guess I don't feel quite so bad!

Momto2 -

You just encountered what every parent does when at WDW with kids. It's inevitable! But the people I saw had more serious issues, if you know what I mean!!

Wow! You learn something new everyday! I didn't know about this feature of the WL to MK boat ride!

Sorry for the 'sad' parent encounters:(

Thanks for sharing!
