View Full Version : Pictures of Dream portholes! And other things from inside the rooms!

The Dream stateroom pictures posted on the DCL website have pictures of the different stateroom portholes from the inside. If you've read the "Special Rooms" thread, you know I've been calling them small (non-public areas on deck 1 or lower), medium (most 9A and 9B cabins except the side facing forward 9A cabins), and large (Cat 8 and a couple of 9A cabins) portholes. Now we can see pictures from inside the rooms and get to see the different sizes pretty well (at least those that matter to us!)

Oceanview, Cat 9 - Medium Porthole, Cat 9B, Deck 2 and most of the 9A cabins. Aft 9A cabins have 2 of these windows.

Though this one looks a little bit bigger than the other one, I think it's actually the same room as the one above, just from a slightly elongated angle

Large - Cat 8, and the forward side facing (not front facing) Cat 9A cabins. Note the window seating they advertised. The square 8A rooms have 2 large windows each.

Halls, I agree with your conclusion about the 2nd photo. I don't remember seeing any oval portholes from the construction photos. I think the porthole got elongated with the side-angle shot.

We have connecting Cat 8s on our 6/12 Fantasy Eastern. Now that I've seen the interior pics, I have visions of myself sitting in the armchair next to the porthole enjoying the view.

Thanks so much for your hard work and dedication with everything that you've done related to the new ships!

Repeat cruisers may have noticed with joy the electronic light up alarm clocks, and the bedside power outlet (that looks like it might accommodate non-US plugs as well!)

For comparison purposes, here is a porthole room on the Magic/Wonder:
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n209/Porter_family/Disney%20Magic%202007/070.jpg

You can get a sense of how much larger the large portholes are on the Dream by comparing the amount of wall space not used by the porthole. I had thought the Cat 9A portholes might be this size, but from comparing them to the pictures above, I'm doubtful.

Thanks HallsofVa! I appreciate all this work you're doing. I have one of those forward corner rooms booked for 2012. I'll be interested to see what the window configuration is when the Dream sails.

I've got a friend who booked one of those and I'm anxiously waiting to see what it looks like too.

Thanks for putting those on here!

When those pics first came out, I was a little confused about the whole cat 9 window thing, especially since from the outside some of the cat 9A windows were immediately next to cat 8 windows, but looked to be the exact same size. But I thought they may have made them look the same from the outside for continuity, while closing them in from the inside. I mean, we know they did something similar for the front-facing rooms.

However, when the ship sailed in to PC in the dark, some of the windows were lit up. One of the 9A windows that is the very first forward room that still faces the side of the ship (there are 6 of them total, I believe...one on each side, floors 6-8), had its interior light on and it showed the same amount of window as the cat 8 rooms that were also lit up right next to it. Since we're in one of those 6 rooms, really hoping we do have that bigger window. :thumbsup2 So hoping someone in one of those rooms reports in.

I would be extremely surprised if those sideways facing forward 9A rooms that look to have the same large portholes as the Cat 8 rooms next to them don't. Those are definitely the rooms to get in my opinion.

Do you mean the corner rooms...we are in 8504 for the Jan 30th Dream cruise...can't wait to see what the rooms/windows look like...or do you mean the lone sideways Cat 9A rooms?

Then we are in 8006 for the Fantasy in June 2012.

No, not the corner rooms that unfortunately have a small forward facing porthole (I have 8006 booked for August.)

I'm referring to the six sideways 9A rooms 8506, 8008, 7506, 7008, 6506, 6008. They have the same large porthole window as the Cat 8s next to them. The PP was originally wondering if they'd do something different on the inside of those rooms, but I don't think they'd do anything to make the window appear smaller from the inside. I assume they're only 9A instead of 8 because they aren't long enough to fit the 5th bed and extra space. While the printed deck plans make the 2 deck 7 rooms appear to be the same size as the Cat 8 rooms they're next to (which would make them the best of the lot), DCL's virtual deck plan doesn't show the same thing. Something else for you early sailors to check out for us!

Thank you for these. The first thing I noticed was not the port hole but infact the alarm clock that lit up:thumbsup2 Also it would be great if the sockets were uk suited:thumbsup2

I am really intrigued by these corner rooms....I know someone (maybe it was you or DCL?) said they the floor plan in those corner rooms are the same as the other Cat 9A rooms but I can't picture it. If by chance those rooms are bigger (as they look on the deck plan) the trade off for the larger space would probably be a "darker" cabin if it only had one small porthole.

Will know soon enough!!!

It wasn't me, but I remember someone being told by a DCL CM that the corner rooms have a long hallway into them, but are the same otherwise as a regular room. I'm not seeing that, though, since they went to extremes on the deck plans to show varying degrees of grey space on some levels but not others, and could have easily squared them off if that's how they would be.

Since all the 9A forward facing rooms have the single medium size slanted porthole, and appear to be varying widths and lengths on the deck plan, it's not like the corner rooms are penalized any differently by the small window, so they still offer the prospect of additional room.

Anxiously awaiting the pictures!!

What size are the port holes on cat 8C?

Large. All Cat 8 rooms have at least 1 large porthole. The Cat 8A rooms have two large portholes in each room. You can see the large portholes on the sides of the ship, in the metal detailing toward the front and back.

We debated between the Cat 8a and 8c for our Fantasy MV. Went with the cat 8C because it was higher up. Looking forward to seeing room reviews.

We went with 8C on our Fantasy cruises as well, mainly because I didn't like the small portholes of most of the 9A rooms, and couldn't find a 8D room that I wanted.

We have 7506 booked and I am very curious to see what these rooms actually look like. I booked it thinking I'd get a cat 8 window for a 9 price (not that it was that much of a difference, but every little bit helps!) It seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to make the window smaller on the inside. My impressions is that there just isn't the 5th bed space (though, I too noticed that the deckplans make it look like there is on deck 7).

I'm book on the Fantasy next year with a 7-night Eastern Cat 8C (deck 8) but am thinking about going two deck 6 for the Cat 8A since the room is larger and has two portholes instead of one. Too bad there are not pictures of the 8A rooms yet.

I was told that the portholes were 45 inches in 9B on deck two...The large portholes are 59 inches with a covered rim that classifies as window seating. That helped give me a little bit of perspective in the size difference.

Great info! You can see it in the picture right above, if you add just over a foot (14 inches) to the right and bottom of the medium window, it would fill the space more like the large window.
