I know Christmas hasn't started yet, but with 8 crazy nights of holidays already passed I figured we should have a place to share any new gear, gadgets, software, etc. we received this year.

I'll start. Yesterday was my last day at work before the holidays and that meant gift day! With the money I got, I went out last night and bought myself an iPAD. :thumbsup2 I've spent the better part of what as supposed to be a productive day off work toting around with various apps, downloading books and reading. I guess it's a good thing I have off tomorrow too!!

What'd you end up with? :)

Since I have a very small family and over the years we have reduced our Christmas buying and giving to stocking stuffer type gifts, anything more than a few dollars I usually purchase for myself. This year my Christmas present to me was an iMac. A good friend recently was hired by Apple and since she was not going to use her 1x a year 25% discount on a system for 2010 she generously offered it to me and I couldn't turn it down. I have Lightroom3 already loaded on it and have been trying to learn my way around the Mac OS.

Not sure what else will be coming my way. Probably not much in the photography department.

My birthday is this week, so, it is a gift during the Holiday Season: A Lomography Fisheye 2 camera. I haven't had a film camera for 10 years, so I thought it would be nice to ease back in with a fixed lens fisheye!

Nothing so far. On Saturday, I'm expecting.....nothing. XMas is a kid gift focused holiday here.

That said, I did get my wife a really nifty cordless tool set. It's a hammer drill, impact driver, and hackzall in the Milwaukee M18 series. I'm hoping that she uses them to build me a table for my camera room.

Oh, the kids are each getting a GoPro Hero HD and a whole bunch of mounts. I'm planning to take them and some neighbor kids out the day after Christmas with the pair of cameras mounted together and do a 3D video shoot.

Well, earlier this year I thought my computer had gone to electronics heaven and since I need one for work, I grabbed an off the shelf from Best Buy. A short time after that (and some detective work from my DH) my old computer was fixed. Not knowing what to do with the new one, I decided to use it as my photo computer and for Christmas I bought myself Adobe Photoshop Elements. So now I will have a computer dedicated to my photos and I don't have to compete with anyone else for computer time to do so . Now all I need is a new wide-angle lens and I'm set.

I was naughty all year but I got myself a present anyway. Just waiting on my shiny new D100 to arrive now.

To Tom, From Tom: Sigma 8-16mm

Did you have that on your trip or get it after you got back? Looking forward to seeing some of your shots with it.

Had not seen those before those are really kind of cool.

Photoshop Elements 9 was the present I got myself. Loving it so far.

Unfortunately, I didn't have it. One of my friends just got a D3s so he sold me his 8-16mm. UPS...errr, Santa, should be delivering it today!

On my wish list: D700 and 70-200 f/2.8 VR. What I'm getting? Nada. However tax/bonus time/my birthday are around the corner and I've been chipping away at the hubby, lol. Won't get both of course so I'm a hoping he sees my "need" for the D700.:rotfl:

There won't be anything under the tree, but I do have permission from the DW, when the funds become available, to purchase the Pentax K5. That works for me!

My wife and I do not exchange present, instead we buy something we both want or just buy ourselves something for each of us. For a couple years we bought pirate Mickey & Minnie big figs. This year she bought a D&B Disney purse and I bought AppleTV.

I guess you could count our cruise we are taking in 2 weeks as any bonuses or cash gifts are going toasted the cruise.

Gave myself my own present early. We were on the Pod Cast Cruise 2.0 last week and I wanted to have a nice camera for the cruise and the before/after events. Got the Nikon D3100.

I know I'm getting a right-angle viewfinder and high-speed card reader -- my wife was a little careless with some of the trash she asked me throw out the other day; a packing slip from Amazon was on top of the pile. I didn't mean to read it, I swear!

I might get a lens -- I had three different ones on my list. We have an anniversary coming up on the 29th, and we'll try to get a little something then as well. She asked me the other day to clarify why I want a fisheye lens and why I want a 35mm f/1.8, so she might be considering one of those. She is getting a 50mm f/1.8 for her D70 -- she always wants to borrow mine.

I am getting a canon S95 point and shoot. This summer during the scavenger hunt, I borrowed my sons Fuji PnS a lot so I thought I would get my own PnS. I also asked for some books but I will have to see if I get them.

I ordered some extension tubes off ebay (cheapies) a bit over a month ago... They haven't turned up, and after this amount of time I'm no longer really expecting them to...

Other then that though, my secret santa got me a lens cleaning kit, and my DF was out looking for new lenses for me, and a new camera bag, so maybe there will be surprises under the tree this year

Hanging out on this subforum of the Dis is expensive!

I'm wishing for the Canon 70 - 200 f/2.8 Mark II. Sadly, DH has firmly decided that he needs to buy my present this occassion and I suspect that I'm going to end up with a Pandora charm instead *sigh*....:lmao:

Well... shiny anyway.I remember getting my D100 when they were still new -- cost $2000. It was my third SLR and first digital camera and I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I have fond memories of everything about it except the small, slow-to-clear buffer.

While I'm probably not getting any photo gear for the holidays, I do have a lot of stuff planned for next year. I've got Speedliter's Handbook (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/032171105X/ref=oss_product), Sketching Light (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321700902/ref=oss_product), and Photo Recipes Live (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321749715/ref=oss_product) all on pre-order. I'll probably buy the next FF camera that Canon releases (unless it is an $8,000 1Ds with only marginal improvements). If they replace the 90mm TS-E, I'll jump on that. If Canon comes out with something like the Sony NEX-VG10, I'll probably get that. I'm also thinking about a few more lenses, like a wide prime (14mm or 24mm), the new 70-200mm, the new zoom fisheye, the new 70-300, or the Nikon 14-24 and an adapter. I'm also looking at a Cintiq.

I bought myself an NEX-5 for my early December trip down to Disney - I didn't want to carry my 7D all day. The camera is a ton of fun and no regrets - even though I'm now faced collecting two different systems with non-compatible lenses. I can use older, manual Canon lenses with the NEX though.

I asked for (ordered myself :/) a Crumpler $4 million home for the NEX and a Lenspen - Ha, honestly looking forward to that to clean my Lenses.

I got myself an Olympus 14-150mm for my ep1 when they were $200 off in a prechristmas sale. Looking forward to using it with the panasonic 20mm as new travel kit when i go in February. I'm hoping for a softbox or a beauty dish for my flashes will be under the tree. I also preordered the next edition of Photo Recipes Live.

Santa is bringing Marlton Mom a Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack, a Tamrac Boomerang strap in blue and black (ooh... aah...) with memory card holders and a Nikonians 'lens' coffee mug.

I was a good year this year for B and H as we also purchased from them a Nikon D90 for my 20th anniversary, an AFS Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8 G and a Canon Powershot G 12 point and shoot for DH.

My 12 y.o. DS has informed me that the D60 is now 'his' and he would like to learn how to take pictures (SCORE!!! :dancer:).

I purchased some photography books this fall and as soon as the holidays are over I plan on blocking out some time and reading them.
They are
:) David Busch's Nikon D90 guide
:) Adobe Camera raw for digital photographers only by Rob Sheppard
:) Adobe Photoshop CS4 book for digital photographers by Scott Kelby
:) The complete guide to High Dynamic Range digital photography by Ferrell McCollough
and for DS, DH and Mom Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson

Here in Marvelous Marlton it's been a very good year for photography. I think the thing I liked the best out of everything was when DS wouldn't let me sell the D60 and he wanted to keep it for himself so he could learn how to take pictures. There is nothing as rewarding as sharing a hobby with your child. I hope he takes to this and has as much fun as his father and I have had. :lovestruc

:santa: Merry Christmas, happy holidays and have a festive Festivus.

I'm with you. I'm moving back to film. I ordered an EOS 3 with a grip and shot 15 rolls of film with it at Disney for the last two weeks. And I'm setting up a dark room in the house to do my own processing.

But the real treat this year, is our daughter. We met her last Thanksgiving and hope to have final adoption papers in a few months (nothing is fast when you work with the state.)

Congrats on the adoption! Our daughter is adopted and is almost 21 now! It was a wonderful experience (after a failed one) and we are always thankful to have her! My brother in law and sister in law also adopted and will be here for dinner soon with their little 3 year girl. The two cousins are very close....

For Christmas I got my Nikon D7000, Photomatix software, a Bamboo pen amongst other things...and best of all a big thank you from my daughter for the Andy Warhol type poster I made her with her puppy as the star! She said that was her best gift ever! :lovestruc

As our kids are older, I thought we had an agreement not to buy for each other and only for the DGD. To my surprise, the DW gave me a new external hard drive (I was running out of space) and my kids gave me another gift card to B & H! I'm a quarter of the way towards the K5! Big surprise!

Super cool! We've been through that waiting game before. But it will be worth it when you can bring her home. Better get yourself some extra film and more external hard drives. You're going to be taking lots and lots of pictures!

Merry Christmas. 2011 is going to be awesome for your family.

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by this. At first glance, I thought you wrote "Escalade perfume" - and I thought, "gee, a perfume that smells like tacky consumption?" :teeth:

We had a very nice Christmas but low on the big gifts. Mrs Groucho decided that the K-5 was my present (forgetting that I'm selling two other cameras and a pile of lenses to pay for it!) and her big present was a pretty fancy treadmill - she's been working out this year and will be running the 5k in Disney in a couple weeks. After some time with the K-5, I bought a 32gb class 10 SDHC card (I fear that I may chew through the 8gb ones a little fast!), and my parents got me the new "The Photographer's Mind" book, which I am now reading, hoping to absorb some in the next few days.

My wife's big creation was quietly going through a ton of my photos and making a book at Shutterfly that she gave to me, my parents, and her parents, which was photos of our children as well as a bunch of Disney photos. My MIL was almost crying, so I think it went over pretty well. :)

Sort-of photography related, I built my sister a PC for Christmas and ended up with a $100 gift card from NewEgg. I used it for my first SSD hard drive, which should arrive Wednesday... a 60gb OCZ Agility 2, supposedly a really fast SSD. I decided to go that route rather than throwing another 4gb of RAM at my PC, and am really looking forward to seeing how it speeds up my PC and how Lightroom will be affected.

oooh, jealous. You are going to love that 60GB OCZ SSD....they recently put an SSD drive in my computer at work and it makes a big difference. Programs launch very quickly, the machine (a windows rig) is almost an instant on. Seriously considering getting one for my machine at home.
