Ok let me get this straight
We registered and paid a deposit
then we register again
then we go to Paypal and pay ?????

Will we be getting a total due or do we just figure that ourselves and send that amount?

I'm confused which is nothing new so don't say anything. I just don't want to send money out into cyberspace without knowing for sure it is going to the right place. Sorry I just have visions of last year when my check went into the great beyond and didn't show up until just about the time my plane took off. I was scared to death I was going to show up and be told sorry you are not registered because you didn't pay.

PayPal is a much better system than snail mail. :)

Tammy you just deduct your $150 deposit from the total amount owing and pay that. I will be keeping track of all payments. You have your Paypal email as your receipt.

Ah Zurg, now you are just being plain naughty.

We all know that the D stands for "Deer" in that he is caught in the glare of all these people "staring" at him while trying to make a decision and that just makes it harder.

Lorax2000

Just sign him up anyway with no user name. That is what I did with my husband because I have tried every which way I can and I can't get the dang computers to drop my registration cookie and let me register my hubby. Well ..... to be honest ....... I left it blank. First he was being a sport and he came up with some cute ones (like enter name here, blank, lorax's VDBF, salsa , zathras, etc. some are inside jokes .). Then I told him it would be on his lanyard and he'd have to wear it the whole time and he started getting all nervous ... so I told him I wouldn't put anything in it.

Although I must admit, I really wanted to give him a good name ........ but then I thought if he didn't end up being a good sport about it, a whole week could be a very long time. :o :o

Cathy - please check to see if my registration went thru. for some reason, lately when I get on the discussion boards, something doesn't recognize my cookies, and I have to manually log on to the Disboards. I forgot to check to see if I was logged on before filling out the information. I didn't know I wasn't logged on until I tried to post to this thread.

Anyway - I think I just registered my DH and myself. I put his DIS name as (Mickey Nut 50's DH). I that that would be appropriate since he doesn't post here (but he does read a few threads once in awhile over my shoulder).

I've been trying to talk my family into planning our family reunion to coincide with these dates-- it seems like a great way to meet new people and have a lot of the planning done already...

But after reading a few snippy posts today... I think we'll be doing something else. In fact, no wonder, I mostly lurk.

zurgswife
09-19-2002, 01:16 PM
LemonDietCoke....I think today's snippy post need to be chalked up to work stress and being overly excited about attending an event.....

I was a little disheartend at first by today's posts but I think we need to step back and realize that everyone is a little stressed out over this event...wheather it be in the planning or the waiting...I'm sure it will be a great event based on the work that has gone in to the planning and the excitement of the attendees...

So, LDC maybe you should reconsider....:D I'm sure we all will have a great time at the Convention......:D :D :D

December99
09-19-2002, 01:24 PM
Since I was the instigator of the one post I will tell you that on my behalf it is stress!!!! My mother passed away a few weeks ago and I guess I'm taking those frustrations along with other frustrations out on EVERYONE (you can even PM my husband and he can attest to this).

So I will make another public apology!!!! It was not done intentional and I had no idea it would do what it did.

Please do not let that post change your mind about going. I am NOT like that in person nor do I intend to be that way in person!!!!

If I were that way - I would not be going and I'm going and I can't wait to go!!!!!!!!!!!

I will now go crawl into my shell!! Again my apologies for anything I created because it was not intentional at all!

CathyCanada

Guilty as charged and it was a number of factors that caused my frustration, and no, Chris, it was not your post, so no apology is necessary to anyone.

I am sorry if I was snippy, I am doing the best I can. PLEASE be patient. As I said in another post, I am working on alternate plans to ensure that this WILL happen. If we can work towards 150, that could be do-able.

Sorry for offending

09-19-2002, 02:39 PM
Thanks you for posting this, Cathy. I'm new here, but have actually been lurking for a while. I understand that you guys are busy, but I have been thinking of doing this - after reading all these posts after lurking for so long, I feel like I know some of you already!!!

My main concern is that I am going to be spending a lot of money doing this. I have a family of four, so that's two adults and two children. I had been pitching to my husband that doing this would be a good idea since we would be able to attend regularly scheduled activities. With only a little bit of time left to get our deposits in, I am afraid that I am not going to be able to give a committment.

What it comes down to is this: I am an event planner for a rather large corporation. We do events twice a year for high level business executives. I -know- what kind of planning and hard work goes into something like this. But I also know that with only a few months left before the event, and a first deposit due soon, if I did not have some kind of regular agenda for my attendees, my clients would be raising holy heck, and likely would back out of the conference.

Bottom line. If I treated my customers the way these money-paying customers have been treated, I likely would not have a job.

So, sorry if I sound like I'm a bit ... jaded, but it's because I am. You're talking my business here. ;) I understand you are trying your hardest, but there's a way to say it where you're customer service minded, and there's a way of saying it where you come off like you don't want anyone attending the event at all.

I also understand that you are probably getting a lot of private e-mails regarding this. Maybe this is adding to yoru frustrations. But this is something that should not ever be taken out on the customer. That's basic customer service.

Just my two cents. Again, I'm new here, but have been around for a while. I registered today and came out of lurkdom because I really had to say something about this..

Miriam

TnRobin

Miriam,

Welcome to the Dis. I am sorry to see that your first post is of this nature.

Being new, I guess you are not aware that the webmasters, moderators, and chat host are volunteers here. We have full time jobs and families that are our first priorities.

As you stated, you are fully aware of the time it takes to plan an activity of this size. These ladies that are planning the convention are doing this in addition to thier jobs, thier families and thier webmaster/moderator/chat host duties. Unlike you it is not thier job to plan conventions nor do they have the resources available to them that you do.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment of customer service since there has not been a "published" agenda. As was determined at the last DISCon, people wanted a more flexible schedule and did not want every moment planned. They wanted the chance for impromptu meetings. Thus the lack of a set agenda is the result of customer service. They have listened to the membership and have delivered what was requested.

MiriamLovesDisney!
09-19-2002, 03:12 PM
I am new, and I realize that it's a volunteer position! And I know it's an awesome responsibility to take on a project of this magnitutde. However, there is still basic customer service. I understand that they are not paid, but we are talking about a bit of money here that is being shelled out for these activities.

As a paying customer, I have a right to complain if I am not getting the service I had hoped for. And as a paying customer, I also have the rights to go and plan other uses for my money if I see that I am not getting my money's worth.

I'm really not trying to stir up contraversy here - but if you are planning an event of this size - and trying to attract people to this event, then customer service is something that should be paid mind to. :)

You might find that you will have more people signing up that way. I wonder how many other people out there are as frustrated as me, but haven't said anything, and are taking their disney money elsewhere? I was quiet for a really long time, but after what I witnessed today, I simply could not be quiet any longer :)

Hi Miriam! You probably haven't seen this yet - but here's a link to the Itinerary thread that will give you some idea about the scheduled activities:

Miriam, I certainly respect what you do now that I have some idea of what it entails. And I understand Customer Service inside and out. I have already apologized, perhaps you missed that. But unlike you, I am not paid for this and I am doing this so that the folks that had such a wonderful time last year and those who know they will have a wonderful time this year, can do just that.

I have given a lot of information already and my frustration was due to comments that I was not communicating daily, something I never promised to do.

But the difference between your job and mine is that these people are my friends, not my customers.

Miriam,

I guess we will agree to disagree.

I find the way this convention was handled refreshing as compared to the cold brochures I am usually handed at work. (I work for a rather large company that employees over 35,000 people - not huge, but not small)

I as a member, not a moderator, my thoughts and ideas were actually considered. What I liked about last year, what I didn't like. I was kept apprised of what was going on. It was not sprung on me. It made me feel like I was part of the process, not just a number. To me that IS customer service.

But we each have our own view points and have a right to them.

I would quote, but I am really not sure how to. Cathy up there said something about these not being her customers but her friends. That's fine. But what just happened here, perhaps, if they are your friends, should have been handled in private rather than the whole world seeing.

Again - just talking from a customer service standpoint. Or even a friend service standpoint, I guess. :)

Thank you for helping me make my decision! If I do decide to go down to Disney, I will likely do what I do best, and plan my family's events for myself, and save my dollars. Why? Because I would be afraid of having someone who is planning this, regardless as to whether it's a volunteer situation or something that you're doing for money - answer my inquiries in a snippy, frustrated manner rather than a professional one. And Cathy, I did read your apology. But for me, to have me become a customer of this product, it is simply not enough.

I wish you the best of luck in the rest of your planning for this convention. I sincerely do. It will just be done with four less people attending.

Have a wonderful time at Disney with your family. Only you can decide what is best for you and your family.

Miriam - I hope you can make it to some of the mini-meets if you happen to be down at WDW during the first couple weeks of December.

OK, we're finally registered. I do find this whole Pay Pal thing really confusing, though. Now all I have to do is to figure out how to pay the balance.

I can hardly wait for DIS-CON!!!!
